Tarot Card

Queen of Pentacles – Minor Arcana Court Card

Traditionally, representing the energy of a Queen, this feminine guardian is endowed with enormous good sense and problem solving energy, but she is not particularly entrepreneurial. She loves to advise, encourage, and empower those she gets involved with, studying their problems with them and setting them up to solve them. Traditionally, she was pictured as the Sibyl or Oracle, perhaps a Tarot reader, who made herself available to people in need, no matter what their social class or situation. In modern times, she will be found educating, healing, managing disaster aid programs or a charitable drive of some sort.
In every case, she does not see the benefits that exist in her life as belonging solely to her. She feels the needs of her people and will spend freely of her time, energy, skills, money to see that nobody is left out. For this, and because she likes to work in an atmosphere of beauty, enjoyment and abundance, she is sometimes accused of being extravagant. But she works hard, and she sees no reason to deny herself the rewards of a job well done. Everyone who comes in contact with her feels enriched by her enjoyment in living.

Hexagram Forty/40

Hsieh / Liberation

A Thunderous Cloudburst shatters the oppressive humidity:
The Superior Person knows the release in forgiveness, pardoning the faults of others and dealing gently with those who sin against him.

It pays to accept things as they are for now.
If there is nothing else to be gained, a return brings good fortune.
If there is something yet to be gained, act on it at once.

SITUATION ANALYSIS:

The relief you experience here is not your own personal pardon, but the release of others from your rigid expectations.
Like a hot air balloon, you will rise to new heights as you cast the heavy sandbags of resentments and restrictions away from you.
Feel the lightness of being that results from forgiving others and accepting them as they are.
Free yourself of the endless vigil of policing the behavior of others.
See them for who they are, not what they can or can’t do for you.

All aspects of the Six of Cups from thesecretofthetarot.com

Six/6 of Cups

In traditional tarot, the Six of Cups shows us two children wearing strange clothing and sharing between them a golden cup while five others sit near by.

The scene is bright and full of greenery. Compared to the rest of the Cup suit, the Six of Cups is lighthearted and fun.

The symbolism in this card directly relates to a time where we weren’t yet bogged down by the stress and emotional upheaval adult life tends to offer.

In some instances, it quite literally points to our childhoods. In others, it tells us that we are taking an innocent, playful approach to what life is throwing at us.

Sometimes the Six of Cups shows us that we aren’t taking parts of our lives seriously enough, though this warning is a welcoming change from the emotional turmoil its suit mates have the tendency to carry with them.

The Upright Meaning

While the Six of Cups is related to our childhood attitudes towards life, it almost never represents our childhoods in the past position.

You’re going to want to examine your more recent history to determine when you could have acted more mature towards the things life put in your path.

Your innocence in the past towards a life event is what has lead you to your current position.

If the Six of Cups appears in your current position, it means that you are living in the moment, and are able to enjoy it without consequence.

This happy-go-lucky attitude is working for you, so long as you are remembering to keep the rest of your life in order as well.

In the future position, the Six of Cups is a wonderful conclusion to your current situation. Despite what the other cards in your spread say, there are good days ahead.

This could mean a new relationship is on the horizon, or you’ll be taking your dream vacation. Whatever the case may be, your future is bright and full of joy.

Work

When reading for your career, the Six of Cups is telling you that now is the best time to let your creativity flow.

You have something unique to bring to the table, and are in a good position to approach a work related task from a different perspective.

If you are seeking work, look for a position that will allow you to have some flexibility and creative freedom.

Love

The Six of Cups in a relationship oriented spread means that you and your partner need to refocus on the future.

It’s saying that one or both of you have been stuck in the past, perhaps when the relationship was still new and exciting.

In order to maintain a healthy bond with each other, it’s time to put the past aside and work towards growing together.

If you are single, the Six of Cups is telling you not to dwell on relationships from the past.

If you’ve been considering rekindling the flames of an old relationship, remember that exes are exes for a reason.

Finances

Since the Six of Cups is so closely related to simpler times, it can be odd to see in a spread related to your cash flow.

What it means in this situation is that you are worrying too much about money, and not focusing enough on living your life.

It’s easy to get caught up in our adult responsibilities, but it’s important that we allow ourselves to have a little fun too.

If you have been interested in making an investment, look for something that speaks directly to your inner child.

Health

When it comes to your health, the Six of Cups is a sign that your physical ailments may be stemming from past emotional pains. Look back to your childhood for answers.

It’s a good idea to enlist the help of a therapist so that you can explore how events that happened when you were young could be affecting you today.

For peace of mind, it is also wise to speak with your family about your medical history.

Reversed Position

A reversed Six of Cups is a warning you cannot ignore. This means that you are still being affected by events from your past. It’s important to recognize the signs of lasting trauma, and to remind yourself that you can ask for help, even if you feel alone.

You must encourage yourself to deal with the past, not dwell on it, in order to move forward.

Rune

Hagalaz

Hagalaz is about destructive natural forces: earthquakes, storms, lightening, and all ways that the raw power of nature cannot be controlled. In this sense it is also associated with the unconscious mind, an energy which must be respected and cannot be successfully resisted. You might not be happy about the destructive force of hagalaz but it will bring an end to things and thus create space for something new. This is the cycle of karma.

The Rings

Keywords: Love, relationships.

Meanings: The Rings is the rune of love and when it is the leading stone, it is a positive answer to your question. It is very much a rune of relationship and can indicate engagement, marriage or a new/renewed relationship. It can also indicate the need for a fresh approach to an existing relationship.

Ogham

Straif

The ogham symbol Straif has the phonetic value of St, and corresponds to the blackthorn or sloe tree, which is known for its magical power. Staves made from its wood were carried by wizards, warlocks, and witches.

In Irish sagas, the blackthorn has association with battle, sacrifice, transformation, and death. It’s also said to be sacred to Donn of the Milesians, the Irish god of death, as well as to goddess Morrighan who oversees matters of war and death.

I Ching

Hexagram Four/4

Moutain Above, Water Below

Be on guard for the careless or rebellious attitudes characteristic of inexperience. Just as a youth requires instruction, this is a good time to focus on learning lessons from a patient teacher or from life experience. Is there a circumstance in your life that you have failed to comprehend, perhaps because you didn’t appreciate its inherent complexities? Be respectful of anything or anyone who has something to teach you right now. If you are focusing on a relationship, ask yourself which of you is currently the student and which of you is the sage. If you are a parent ask yourself: Who is being the teacher – my child or me?

In order to be ready for challenging times, let education be an ongoing part of your life. Develop the necessary mind-set and willpower to carry you through confusing times. The wise realize that experience – especially difficult experience- is a most powerful teacher. But we cannot be forced to learn, even from experience. Be the humble student who delights in learning, the one who nourishes an expanding awareness.

Examine your attitude for factors that would limit your openness. Observe how you deal with the mistakes of others. Let people live their own lives and learn their own lessons. You may offer them your wisdom or advice, but do so only if they are receptive. Give up trying to convince others that you are right, as it is both exhausting and counterproductive. Instead, all other to proceed, even into difficult or dangerous circumstances. It may be the only way they can learn; and without learning, no one can achive success. Care without forcing attention; trying to take care of someone who is unwilling can actually be harmful. Live and let learn.

General

Breakthrough – Major Arcana

The commentary of The Breakthrough Osho Zen

Eye-catching at first sight and the red color of the Breakthrough Osho Zen indicates its theme is energy, power, and strength. Bright light is created from the solar network – the focal point of the character’s power is extremely excited and determined. Sometimes, we all reach a level called “that’s enough”. At such times, we seem to need to do something, anything, even making mistakes, to lift off the burden and barriers that restrict us. If not so, they will be threatened to suffocate and destroy our own life energy.

If you now feel “that’s enough”, allow yourself to break the old patterns dangerously and limits that blocked your flow of energy. At that time, you will be amazed at the vitality and ability that this “Breakthrough” can bring to your life.

The meaning of The Breakthrough Osho Zen

Converting disruptions into breakthroughs is a master’s comprehensive function. Psychologists simply patch you up and that is- the function. He is not there to transform you. You need meta-psychology, the psychology of the buddhas.

The Breakthrough Osho Zen is a great adventure in life to overcome an accidental breakup. It is the greatest risk as there is no guarantee that the breakup will become a breakthrough. It does become, but these cannot be guaranteed. Your chaos has been around for a long time – in many previous lives, you were in turmoil- thick and layered. It is almost an inner universe itself. So when you step into it with your small power, it is definitely dangerous. But without facing this danger, no one will become integrated, no one becomes an individual, individually.

Meditation, or thinking, is a method that will help you overcome chaos, overcome the darkness of the soul, balance, order, and warnings. Dawn is not far away, but before you can get to dawn, the night must be over. And as dawn dawned, the night would become darker.

Love

The Lovers – Major Arcana

The commentary of The Lovers Osho Zen

“True love” – what we call it, basically is a spectrum of correlation and connection between heaven and earth. At the lowest meaning level, love is sexual attraction. Many of us are still trapped there since our instincts have weighed down all our desires and banned them. The biggest problem of sexual love is that it does not last that long.

Only if we accept this truth, we could welcome the nature of love as it is – greeting its happenings and break up by the gratitude when it is no longer exist. Lastly, we can begin to experience due to our mature: love only exists when we can overcome the demand for sexuality and respect the true nature of others. Moreover, we will begin to understand that: lovers can compare as a mirror which can reflect the intangible aspects of our deepest ego and turn to be perfect.

The Lovers Osho Zen is built on the foundation of freedom, not hope and need. The wings of love would take us so far to where cosmic love exists and we will experience everything together.

The meaning of The Lovers Osho Zen Tarot

There are three things should be noted when The Lovers Osho Zen appears: the most inferior love is sex – it is only physical. The greatest subtlety of love is compassion. Sex will stay below love, whereas compassion is above; true love in the intermediate position.

Few people know what true love is. Unfortunately, 99% of humanity thinks that sex is love; however, it is not. Sexuality is about the concupiscence, it has the ability to develop into love, but it is not true love, it is just possible …

If you are conscious, aware, and having a calm mind, sex can transform into love. And if you have been completely pure, love can become into compassion. Sex is the seed while love is the flower and compassion is the fragrance.

Buddha defined compassion as “pure love”. When your love is not just a desire to have others or when love is not just a need. And, when love is sharing, not a beggar but an emperor; when love is about ready to give – it is the given of joy. It is time to refresh your mind and heart and the pure fragrance can spread. Therefore, it is compassion, which is significantly the highest level of love.

Health

The commentary of The Change Osho Zen

The symbol of the Change Osho Zen is the giant wheel which representing time, destiny, and karma. The Milky Way revolves around a perpetual motion circle with 12 signs of the zodiac on the outer edge. Inside the circle are the eight trigrams of I Ching and near the center of the circle are the four directions, illuminated by the energy of lightning. The rotating triangle is now facing upwards, towards the gods. At the center of the wheel is the symbol of yin and yang, male and female, creative and receptive.

It is often said that the only constant thing in the world is change. Life is constantly changing, evolving, dying and rebirth. All opposites play a role in this vast circle. If you cling to the edge of the wheel, you may be dizzy! Then move to the center of the storm and relax because you know the storm will pass.

The meaning of The Change Osho Zen

Life repeats itself unconsciously – unless you perfect mindfulness, it will continue to spin like a wheel. That is why Buddhists call it the wheel of life and death – the wheel of time. The Change Osho Zen moves like a wheel: birth and death, death and birth; love and hate, hate and love; success and failure, failure and success. Look at that!

If you can observe for only a few days, you will see a rule. That is the law of circulation. One day, on a beautiful morning, you feel very excited and happy, and then on another day; you feel so sad, so deadly that you start to have suicidal thoughts. And one day, you feel so alive, you happily see the grace of God that gave you the mood of deep gratitude and today you see resentment and no benefit in living … The wheel keeps moving, but you will not see it anymore.

Only when you see through the law of the circulation can you escape it.

Inner Voice – Major Arcana

The commentary of The inner Voice

It is a voice from the Inner Heart, which cannot be expressed in words except the language of the heart. It was as if a prophet just told the truth. If a face were present, it would be the face in the middle of the card – awake, alert, and capable of accepting both light and darkness, represented by the hands holding the crystal ball. The ball itself represents transparency when we overcome everything that is dualistic.

The Inner Voice Osho Zen Tarot can be quite mischievous as it dives deep into the emotional world, then abruptly emerges, flying as high as the sky, like dolphins dancing on the surface of life. It is connected to the universe, through the crescent moon crown, and the Earth – which is metaphorical with green leaves on the character’s kimono.

We hear voices which are dragging us in one way many times in our lives. It is, somehow, such confusing situations are meant to remind us: to seek stillness and inner concentration. Only then can we hear the truth.

The meaning of the Inner Voice Osho Zen

You can find the truth in yourself, there is no need to find anything in reality anymore. The truth is flowing in you and when you widen your eyes, it is the truth that will open your eyes. As if you close your eyes, it is also the time when truth closes your eyes.

The Inner Voice Osho Zen is extraordinary meditation; however, if you can handle it, you will not need to do anything; whatever you are doing is enlightened by the truth. You are walking and it is the truth; no matter what you are sleeping or saying, the truth will be the same as your action. Then, you are silent, it is the silent truth. It will always follow you due to the name of the inner voice

Moreover, it is one of the simplest meditation techniques, which depicts slowly, gradually. Everything will return to a simple formula, and the next will be: no need for any more techniques. As you are healed, you do not need meditation, you do not need medicine. Then you live freely – alive, radiant, contented, delighted with a song of your own. Your life becomes a wordless prayer, or it can be said to be a prayer, a blessing, a good thing that does not belong to the mortal realm, a ray of light from far away shining into our dark world.

Ogham

From druidogham.wordpress.com

Luis

Protection, strength

Tree: Rowan (Sorbus spp.)

Letter: L

Luis symbolizes a connection with one’s higher spirit or Guardian Angel. Whether you believe in such things or not, we can all agree that without protectors, especially when we are young and defenseless, we human beings make easy prey. Luis indicates you are loved and valued by someone and that they love and value you enough to feel protective of you.

We are surrounded by beings who are willing to teach us and help us grow towards our potential as human beings, but if we reject their good advice with materialist denials or because we are lazy or treat them as spiritual vending machines, they are more than happy to stand aside and leave the doors open for the legions of beings who do not wish us well.

When we grow up, we all become parents of sorts as we end up taking upon the role of self-parent. For example: you get yourself up in the morning, not mom. You obtain food for yourself, you bathe yourself, you are responsible for your own behavior and regulating your own communications and emotions. Luis means you are willing to take the necessary precautions that a good parent would insist upon if you were the child. You are acting as a good parent to yourself, providing protection and sanctuary, allowing yourself room to grow without overreacting in extreme directions.

Questions when you draw Luis:

-At what age did you essentially become your own parent? Was it an appropriate age, or were you too young or too old?
-Have you ever felt the presence of a divine guardian? Have you tried talking to them?
-Who has been a protector or mentor to you in this life, for better or for worse? How do you feel about them?

Ill-dignified excess: Overprotection
Molly-coddling. Overprotective extremes. Being hovered over or hovering over another person only creates lasting weakness, resentment, and damage. The American suburbs are considered the best places to raise young children. They are full of safe, crime-free streets and highways dominated by giant cars and trucks where you take your life in your hands if you try and walk across them. Your kids are placed in a safe, prison-like building called school where the antidepressant-addled products of other safety-concerned parents may randomly mow them down at any time with submachine guns. Your safe job in a safe office building can be erased forever at any moment due to a change of corporate leadership, a companywide bankruptcy, or the minor chance you might not kiss the right person’s butt with enough skill. Safety is a false construct. Overprotection is no protection — sealing oneself off in a bubble, whether it is an elite suburb or countryside doomstead, depletes immunity and makes you an easy target. Aim for resiliency, not complete control.

Ill-dignified dearth: Vulnerability
Abandonment. Unfairness. Overcommitment. Depletion. Too much responsibility on your shoulders. Atlas forced to carry the weight of the world and nobody willing or able to help. Not feeling up to the job of caring for oneself, let alone others. Being over-depended upon. Needing to be nurtured by a loving parent figure. Feeling unable to provide.

Tarot Card

The Star tarot card will cover all aspects of today’s reading from thesecretofthetarot.com

The Star – Major Arcana

What Is The Star Tarot Card Meaning?

The presence of The Star card represents a good omen. It speaks of hope, faith, and inspiration.

The Star’s presence signifies a period of rest and new beginnings for you.

The renewal taking place may be physical or spiritual. Sometimes it is both.

The Star becomes an especially positive sign if you or a family member or friend is recovering from sickness or an injury.

It is a light in the darkness and illuminates both what has happened and what is to come.

When The Star card comes up, it indicates a beneficial mixing of the past and the present.

Satisfaction and fulfillment come forth in your life. The Star tells of even brighter prospects to come.

The person associated with a Star card is pleasant and happy. Now is a time of pleasure and fulfillment.

The Upright Meaning

The Star Tarot card brings a sense that you are truly blessed by the Universe.

It brings renewed hope and faith. Courage, fulfillment, and inspiration are present.

You are entering a phase filled with calm energy.

It is a time of love and development of a deeper understanding of yourself and those around you.

This card tells you to have faith and to trust in the Universe. Over the long-term, a better future awaits you.

It is time to trust that all things are indeed possible.

The Reversed Position Meaning

When The Star card presents itself in reversed position, something is being blocked.

This is kind of like clouds at night blocking out the moon and the stars from your view.

A reversed Star means the person is feeling hopeless.

This doesn’t mean that there is no hope. They just can’t see it at the present time.

When The Star is reversed, it means there is something that needs further attention in your life. Think about what’s blocking you from a more positive outcome.

The Star Combinations

When The Star and The Chariot pair up in a reading, it means your idealism will manifest in the world with great success.

If the Ace of Pentacles is in a reading with The Star, your creative ideas become profitable.

When The Lovers card combines with The Star, it means you are blind to any faults your partner possesses.

This blind support may be a positive reading because it may be what that person needs to become your best match.

Work

Your progress and relationships at work should be in a good place right now.

If you are thinking of trying new opportunities, now is a beneficial time to begin them.

If you are open to career changes, now is the time you will see them in every direction.

You should prepare for these changes when they come. Get a new resume ready. Educate yourself on upward career choices you’re interested in pursuing.

If you’re content with where you are currently working, prepare for positive changes within your workplace. Keep your eyes open and embrace new opportunities.

Love

The timing is excellent right now for you to meet someone. If you’re ready to start a new relationship, you need to take steps to get out there and meet people.

Love may be looking for you, you just to need to be in the right place at the right time.

If you are already in a committed relationship, this is a time for renewal. Remember why this relationship became significant to you and plan romantic time accordingly.

You can take everything to a higher more fulfilling level if you desire.

Finances

The Star is a significantly powerful omen. You will do better financially than you ever thought possible. This is a great time to ask for that well-deserved raise.

The time is one of bounty, making it profitable to sell things.

While money and material things are important, other gifts will come into play at this time also. Remember to notice other significant sources of positivity coming your way.

Such resources affect you physically, your emotional stability, and overall increased happiness.

The manifestation of plenty is key for you right now. You will reap the benefits. You’ll have everything that you need in abundance. Enjoy this time of blessings.

Health

When it comes to your health, this should be a fabulous time. You will feel calm, cool, and collected.

You will notice an increase in energy and a feeling of lightness and well-being.

The Star indicates a shining from within and without.

It translates to serenity and peace you may not have felt in a long time.

Be grateful for the well-being that this period brings. Take steps to become active in maintaining your health and wellness in the future.

The Chariot tarot card for all readings from thesecretofthetarot.com

The Chariot – Major Arcana

Chariot Tarot Card Meanings

The seventh card of the Major Arcana, The Chariot, is related to being goal oriented, having confidence, and overcoming obstacles in your life.

Traditionally this card depicts a man riding a chariot that’s pulled by two animals of opposite colors without reins to guide them.

This image is symbolic of the confidence it shows within the person being read.

The two animals and their opposite colors say that regardless of what pulls you, be it positive or negative events, the situation has an attractive outcome.

The Upright Chariot Meaning

When The Chariot appears in a past position, it is showing you that you have gone through a major life event that is acting as a catalyst for your current and future positions.

Perhaps it is a reminder of what you’ve overcome and it’s showing you that you are still capable of being that untouchable person.

In a present position The Chariot is strongly suggesting that you keep a cool head and stay on the path towards your ultimate goal.

It is saying “you can do this!”, so long as you do not falter.

The Chariot upright in a future position is the person being read coming out of the situation on top and as a better person for it.

They have overcome whatever obstacles sit in the past and present positions despite what signs or omens they’ve presented.

Work and the Chariot

In a work related spread, The Chariot denotes a change in positions or even entire careers.

If you’ve been thinking about starting your own business, now is the perfect time.

There is also the possibility that a better job offer will come along and The Chariot says to accept.

One other possible meaning in this sort of spread is an unexpected work related trip that could result in a pay raise or promotion within your current company.

Love and the Chariot Card

Often The Chariot will appear if the person being read has recently ended a relationship or if a particular rough patch is about to show itself in their current one.

Whether you’re single or attached, The Chariot s telling you that this too shall pass.

Despite the hardships you’ve faced in love, you will come out stronger and better because of them.

The Chariot says to take your experiences and use them to know better for next time.

The Chariot and Finances

When this card appears in a financial spread or the person being read is asking a question related to their financial situation, the time to spend is not now.

Though The Chariot is a good indication that more money is coming your way, it is ill advised to start frivolous spending as the card can also be a sign that an unexpected event is on the horizon that could cause a huge financial blow if you are not prepared.

Meaning of the Chariot in Health

For someone who is already in poor health, The Chariot means that there is still some ways to go until you are better.

While that can sound quite ominous, keep in mind that overcoming obstacles is still one of the root meanings for the card.

Even with the possibility of illness ahead The Chariot means you are strong enough to endure it.

The Chariot in Reversed Position

Appearing in the reverse, The Chariot is acknowledging the feeling of a lack of control over your life.

It is suggesting that you take a moment to figure out what it is that is causing these feelings and to give yourself time to fix the situation.

Of course, this is much easier said than done, but it’s important to remember that The Chariot speaks to your strength.

Even in a reversed position, you are still tough enough to get back on track even if things seem hopeless.

If you feel as though life is moving on and leaving you behind, The Chariot is very likely to pop up reversed in your reading.

The lesson it teaches in this situation is a harsh one, as it’s a reminder that change will happen whether you want to go along with it or not.

Casting The Runes c. 2018

Casting The Runes

Each individual will eventually devise his or her own way of casting the runes. What follows are some
suggestions, all following a similar path, but they are by no means fixed rules.

It is important to remember that your runes are your own, and are special. You have created a link
with them and that is important. Never lend your runes, unless you feel comfortable doing this. I
personally would never lend runes, Tarot cards or crystals to anyone else. If you are unsure, maybe
you should try drawing a rune from your pouch and seeing what you get as an answer. It is suggested
that an upright rune gives a Yes answer, and an inverted one a No answer. However, those runes
which look the same either way may prove a problem!

A traditional way of casting the runes is to mix them in a pouch and cast them on a cloth, usually
velvet. I keep my runes in such a pouch and use them in this way. It usually happens that the runes I
am intended to use find their way into my hand or between my fingers as I mix them in the pouch. I
usually draw nine runes.

Others have suggested drawing three runes at a time, three times, with a break in between each set of
three.

Old Nordic tales suggest that throwing runes at a person was a means of casting a magical spell.
Likewise spells are said to have been cast by writing certain runic inscriptions on a piece of paper and
passing it to the unsuspecting intended victim.

All these things may belong in folklore, and have no bearing on the modern usage for runes; it is up to
the individual to decide. One runemaster I know draws three runes which represent current
circumstances. Having looked at these three runes, he returns them to the pouch and draws three
more. The second set of three represents courses of action or possible outcomes. The second set is
then also returned to the pouch and a final single rune drawn, which indicates influences likely to have
a bearing on the problem as a whole.

Tradition suggests that Odin’s number was 5. For this reason, some runemasters work with only five
runes. Those interested in numerology will note that the runes total 25 if you include the blank rune.
This all adds up to 7, which is a powerful and spiritual number, and for this reason, perhaps, some
runemasters draw seven runes when casting.

Another means of casting the runes is to ‘shuffle them’ and leave them to their own devices for a while
(15 minutes is usually suggested), and then draw 12, laying them on a runic chart especially
prepared for the purpose.

Ways Of Casting The Runes c. 2018

Ways Of Casting The Runes

There are probably hundreds of different ways to lay the runes for a casting. What is given here is
only a selection. It is by no means exhaustive.

I would suggest that you try some of these, going for the ones with which you feel comfortable before
trying your own ideas out. The reasons for this are many, not least of which it is important to
familiarise yourself with the runes and how they are read as a group before progressing.

It should also be remembered that you may have some personal thoughts on the meanings of the runes
at the time you are carrying out the casting, which you should not dismiss out of hand. The meanings
given here are basic, and again by no means exhaustive. You may for example wish to use all
the reverse meanings given, even though some runes look the same either way up. Experience is the
best teacher, and you must always do what you feel comfortable doing. Don’t go along with something
just because others do – make up your own mind.

Another means of casting the runes consists of five runes, called Odin’s casting. Again these are laid
down from right to left, with the third rune slightly raised from the remainder. I read these as being
two pages within a book with the third rune being that which is either holding the pages together, or
conversely, stopping them from being turned. I use a similar layout in Tarot readings.

Similar layout could be used with seven runes.

You could also consider using a 12 rune casting, linking each rune either with a month or with a sign
of the zodiac. This is usually laid out in a circle, as in Figure 7.3, although I have seen many
variations of this.

Yet another suggestion would be what is sometimes called the rune-cast method. Basically, you ‘shuffle’ the runes within their pouch, and having formed a circle of string on the floor, empty the pouch into it.

Those runes nearest to you have the greatest meaning. Should any have fallen outside the string circle,
these can be ignored; likewise if they fall on the string or have fallen face downwards.

There are many more ways of casting the runes, and no doubt you will find one suitable for you.
Experiment and practise.

What is the Meaning of the Three of Swords Tarot Card?

In traditional tarot, the Three of Swords is depicted as three swords piercing through a heart.

The design is as simple as its meaning: loss and betrayal.

If you have recently experienced a break up, the loss of a job you loved, or had a falling out with a friend, it’s common for the Three of Swords to appear as the focal point of your reading.

While gloom and doom follow this card around, it’s best to view it as confirmation that your hurt feelings are valid, and that you are not overreacting to the situation.

The Upright Three of Swords Meaning

The meaning of the Three of Swords depends on the position in which it appears in your spread.

If you should find it in your past position, it means that an event in your past that caused you heartbreak is the foundation for your current situation.

It is a reminder that sadness and guilt can have a strong hold over our lives, and can still affect us long after the event has happened.

In this instance, it is important for you to recognize how this past emotional trauma has wormed its way into influencing your current situation and make adjustments.

The Three of Swords in your current position means that you haven’t been as nice as you could be to other people.

You may not realize how your behaviors are affecting others, so consider this your chance to correct these mistakes.

It is also possible that you have been blind to the warning signs that a personal relationship is soon meeting its end.

Remember that heartbreak is a temporary pain and that you are capable of eventually moving on.

It’s important to pay attention to the other cards appearing in your spread in order to determine which area of your life the Three of Swords is referencing in this position.

In your future position, the Three of Swords is not ideal. However, instead of looking at this as having heartbreak in your future, take this as a chance to evaluate your current relationships.

You have time right now to see where there is room for improvement, or to prepare yourself for a bond to be broken.

The Three of Swords might not be the best future omen, but adjusting your current situation can certainly improve the future and soften the blow of loss and disappointment to come.

Jera

Harvest

Keywords: Completion, year, life cycle, closure

The Jera rune means harvest, and it signifies that the time has come to reap what you have sown and tended with such diligence and care. The Jera rune highlights the connection between input and output, cause and effect. It raises the question: What have you sown, what have you created, what are you now able to harvest?

When Jera appears in a reading with runes, it is a positive omen, hinting at incoming abundance, blessings, results or opportunities that you may have been working steadily towards for a long time – and now, finally the time has come to harvest.

Jera is also connected to Moterh Earth and her natural and inevitable cycles. It is literally not possible – and it is certainly not wise – to harvest before the crops are ripe and ready. Jera reminds us of this simple truth, and asks us to consider what we sow, and when we harvest what we have created.

The Jera rune often appears in readings to indicate the positive conclusion of a process or a cycle – as such, it can signify graduation, marriage, promotion, literal birth or any other form of conclusion or result which punctuates a cycle.

Jera is one of the truly positive rune stones and has no reversed meanings.

Rune Meanings By Lucius Nothing

Rune meanings have been handed down through the mists of time since their ancient beginnings in approximately the 1st Century AD.

The Norse runes are part of an ancient Pro-Germanic tradition and the runic alphabet consists of 24 rune symbols – with the addition of one notably blank rune to allow space for cosmic chance – typically engraved on stones, seashells or pieces of wood.

Throughout their early history, the runes were in a constant state of development – with the subtraction and addition of runes undertaking by those who used the runes for divination, protection and other forms of magic.

The runes best known and most widely used today are the Elder Futhark Runes, a version of the runic alphabet completed and taken into use in the 5th Century AD. A set of Younger Futhark Runes also exists, but they are not in widespread use today, perhaps because more uncertainty exists around the proper interpretation of the Younger Futhark runic inscriptions. It is speculated that they are at least partly inspired by the Latin alphabet as it spread through Northern Europe, but not enough is know about this to confirm or deny the connection.

Since their beginnings, the runes have been steeped in history, mythology and meaning. They were considered to be a gift from the gods – specifically from the king of the gods, Odin, the allfather, and for this reason, they were venerated and cast with extreme caution and respect for their metaphysical qualities and divine origin.

Today, the runes are used similarly to Tarot cards, Oracle cards and other divination tools – as a means of tapping into your own inner reservoir of intuition, wisdom and ability to pick up on certain subtle clues in the present that may enable you to foretell the future with some accuracy. A crucial difference, of course, is that the runes are much older than any Tarot or oracle deck of cards.

Would you like to learn more about the runes, their meanings, and how to cast and interpret them? Then keep reading.

What Are Runes/Norse Runes/Elder Futhark Runes?

The runes, the Norse runes, and the Elder Futhark runes are all one and the same. Many variations of runes exist, but the Elder Futhark stones comprise the standard runes and rune meanings used to day.

The runic alphabet typically consists of 24 runes, each inscribed with its own magical symbol, and one blank rune called Odin’s rune. The blank rune symbolises that which cannot or must not be known about the future, and when it comes up in rune readings it is the equivalent of drawing a blank. It means that there are certain cosmic curtains behind which you should not look – or maybe it is not yet the right time for looking. When the blank rune comes up, it is important to respect its message, rather than trying to circumvent it by drawing more runes in a desperate bid to wring out an answer.

The runic alphabet divides into three parts – or suits, for those of you who are familiar with Tarot terminology – each consisting of eight runes. These divisions are called Aetts, the Ancient Norse word for families. And so we have Freyr’s Aett, Heimdall’s Aett and Tyr’s Aett. Each of the three Aetts addresses a different stage of life.

The first set of runes: Freyr’s Aett

The first eight runes of the runic alphabet belong to Freyr’s Aett. According to Norse mythology, Freyr was the god of rain, sun, fertility and peace. Thes runes belonging to his Aett deal with the physical plane and with discovering and learning how to master all of the tangible and necessary aspects of life.

The runes belonging to Freyr’s Aett are associated with the formative years of childhood and youth, the stage of life where we are very much still finding our feet in the world and deciding who we are.

The second set of runes: Heimdall’s Aett

The following eight runes belong to Heimdall’s Aett. In Norse mythology, Heimdall was the watchman of the gods.

The runes belonging to Heimdall’s Aett deal with a developing sense of maturity and personal growth, as well as with themes of maturation, harvest, obstacles and fate.

The third set of runes: Tyr’s Aett

The final set of runes belong to Tyr’s Aett. Try was the Norse sky god, and was also responsible for ward and justice.

These eight runes deal with spiritual development as well as legacy, inheritance, community and intuition.

The origin story of the Runes

As befits their ancient nature and metaphysical properties, the runes have an origin story steeped in myth and magic.

It is said that it was Odin, the king of the Ancient Nordic gods, who discovered the runes. Note that he did not invent them – the runes were a revelation and a gift, not an invention.

To obtain the gift of cosmic wisdom, Odin hung himself upside down from the branches of the world tree, Yggdrasil, for a nine days and nine nights. The runes were his reward.

Each rune symbol has a unique energy and meaning

Each Elder Futhark Rune is inscribed with a particular and unique magical symbol. Because the runes are so old and shrouded in mystery, each rune is ascribed a variety of potential meanings, rather than one that is clear and static.

Nevertheless, each rune holds a core meaning, a core cosmic truth, which the individual intuitive rune reader is able to interpret and expand on according to the context of the rune reading.

The runes’ names are all based on the ancient Anglo Saxon rune poem, a poem written ostensibly for the purpose of transmitting the rune lore in a convenient and easyp-to-grasp manner.

Rune divination

Runes have been used for divination since their beginnings, and divination is still their primary use today.

A rune casting can be done in a number of ways, but most commonly, it involves the person having the reading drawing runes from the bag in which the rune stones are kept. The number of runes used for the reading can vary from just one or just a few to a handful.

An easy-to-approach rune reading if you are new to the runes consists of just three rune positions: Past, present and future. But just as the case is with the Tarot cards, you can assign the runes any pre-ordained positions you like.

Rune magic

Throughout their very long history, the runes have been used for much more than divination. The runes are inextricably linked to seidr, a type of magic practiced in Ancient Norse society by both male and female practitioners. Not much is known about the original practice of weird, but it is believed and speculated that it was a form of magic which concerned itself with both the foretelling and shaping of the future.

According to Norse mythology it was Odin, the king of the gods, who discovered the runes and imparted the knowledge of them to humanity. As well as being the wise all-father a the ruler of the gods, Odin was also the god of sorcery (as well as poetry and war).

The runes are still use for magic today, by practitioners all over the world. Rune magic encompasses everything from rune readings to spells and hexes. Runic inscriptions can also be used in sigil magic, and in the creation of potent amulets for protection, prosperity, love and more.

It is interesting to note that the modern-day sigil magic is based on inscribed symbols that are then charged with magical energy and intention, with the purpose of affecting or shaping the future. Although no clear connection has been established between sigil magic and rune magic, it is very likely that the former draws its inspiration from the latter, or at the very least that the two share some interesting similarities and purposes.

Tarot Cards

Today’s tarot card is a multiple reading from thesecretofthetarot.com

General

The Hermit – Major Arcana

The Hermit is number nine in the Major Arcana and it represents a man standing on top of a mountain with a lantern in his hand.

He symbolizes the man who achieved his spiritual peak and is now ready to share that wisdom.

The Hermit Tarot Card is all about introspection. You have come to a time in your life where you have to just quiet yourself and look for answers within.

The Upright Hermit Tarot Card

When The Hermit appears in a Tarot reading, he often suggests a time for being alone.

You might be seeking greater understanding of the values, motivations and personal principles of your life.

The Hermit indicates that retreat or withdrawal is advised for now because the truth you are looking for is not found in the outside world, but in yourself.

This is the time for soul-searching and challenging the status quo and the best way to do that is by meditation and contemplation.

As a result, you might want to do some changes in your life, modify some priorities or even your lifestyle.

The Hermit and Work

When The Hermit is present in your reading, it can indicate that you might need some time off work and a time to focus on yourself.

If in the past you have done your job right and everything is, as it should you can expect some recognition and success.

Some time for yourself might clear your head about your priorities in the work department.

Love and The Hermit Card

The presence of The Hermit in a Tarot spread might indicate that you need some time to reflect about the future of your current relationship.

Is this person really suited for you? Are you happy in this relationship?

If you are alone, the appearance of The Hermit in your reading might indicate that for now it is better to be alone and really focus on yourself.

The Hermit and Finances

The appearance of The Hermit in a spread means that you are not focusing on the material details right now, but more on the matters of the soul.

Be careful not to make any haste decisions when it comes to investments for the time being.

Concentrate on the inner self, find your true values and look for your answers within.

The Hermit and Health

This might be a great time to invest some time on your health. Meditation, stress relief rituals or plain old pampering will do wonders for you.

If you are having some problems, try to investigate their root cause. If your back hurts, maybe you are “carrying too much”…

The Hermit tells you to take care of yourself.

The Hermit Reversed

The Hermit in reversed position can indicate that you are either taking too much time for personal reflection, or none at all.

If the time spent with soul searching and introspection is making you a literal hermit, you should try to reconsider. Being alone and isolated might have a terrible effect on you and your family and friends.

The Hermit’s reversal may also suggest you are intentionally avoiding focusing inward for fear of what you might discover or the changes you might have to make.

When The Hermit appears reversed in a relationship reading, it might suggest that one of you has a need for isolation. Be careful at that degree of isolation for it might ruin everything.

If you are single, the Hermit reversed can indicate that you are tired of being alone and are now beginning to search for a partner.

Thurisaz

Mallet/Giant

Keywords: Conflict, defence, challenge, danger, competition, quarrel

The third rune, Thurisaz, shows either Thor’s hammer, or a giant. In Norse mythology, Thor, Odin’s son and the good of war and thunder, is constantly defending the divine realm from the malicious giants. In other words, there is a sense of two powerful, opposing forces clashing, and the meaning is clear: Conflict is brewing and you are going to have to stand your ground, stand up for yourself, and defend that which you cherish and believe in.

While Thurisaz can be a call to arms, it can also simply be a sign of friendly competition, an indication of competitive spirit.

When Thurisaz appears reversed in a reading, its connotations are also turned on their head. Hear, instead of indicating a defensive stance and hinting at your great ability when it comes to stand up for yourself, there is a sense of helplessness, of failing to set boundaries and getting trampled on as a result.

Reversed:  Back to the drawing board, dawg. Those plans are not gelling.  It may be that you lack the vision or the support to get things off the ground.  You need to build up more street cred before you take this thang forward.  Delays and setbacks may plague a perfectly good plan or trip.  Seasickness.  Thinking small time.  Can’t be a balla if you thinking like a chump.

Six of Cups – Minor Arcana

Keywords: pleasure, nostalgia, friendship, meeting, gifts, security, romance, the past, reunion, childlike

General meaning:  If you are in the market for love, you may be meeting a romantic partner or being courted.  This could be someone new but more often, it’s a suggestion of a blast from the past or someone with whom you are already familiar.  The energy here is about returning to one’s roots.  Whether that be an old love, a former job, or old memories, the past is calling.  The Six of Cups may also indicate that you may be receiving a gift – don’t look that gift horse in the mouth.  Say thank you.

Reversed:  The energy moves from nostalgia to being hung up on the past.  As in constantly bitching about the present and longing for days gone by.  Those good old days may not be as good as you remember.  It’s time to stop clinging to what was and embrace what is.  Any sort of emotional immaturity, yours or others, will hold you back now.  Man up and stop that b.s.

Queen of Pentacles – Minor Arcana Court Card

General meaning: The Queen of Pentacles is warm and down to earth.  Of all the Queens, she is also the most “motherly” of the lot.  She enjoys tending to the hearth and home.  This is the one you can count on when the chips are down. She’s reliable and always ready to lend a hand to anyone in need.  She’s also business savvy and knows how to create a buck out of thin air – and conserve what she has.  When this card shows up in your reading, you may be called to channel that energy.  Bringing home the bacon and frying it up in a pan.  Fertility.  The true “earth mother” of the Queens.  Self-sufficiency.  Nurturing security.  Lovin’ that bling.

Reversed: The energy goes from caretaker to gold digger.  Obsessed with the material side of life, this woman will scheme to get her needs met.  Taking him for everything he has.  Too worried about keeping up with the Joneses. Greed. Financial dependence.  An inability to stand on one’s own two feet financially – or an inability to provide for the family.  A lack of homemaking skills.  Extremely self-absorbed.  The moody, stubborn bitch.  Jealous hater.  Broke ass.

Situations may demand sharp, critical thinking.  You may find yourself needing to defend your thoughts or ideas.  Mounting a legal defense. A need for an attorney to look things over. This card can indicate new ideas or new ways of thinking.  It can also represent a strong-willed and spunky child who will keep you on your toes.  Making an oath. Truth seekers.

Reversed:  The Page of Swords reversed can indicate a shaky defense – or an overly defensive posture.  Lack of logic.  Viciousness and cruelty.  Not facing the facts.  A weak argument.  Legal or tax issues.  Being unable or unwilling to speak the truth.  Cowardly actions.  Foggy thinking.  Stealing someone else’s ideas.  A bratty, rebellious child.  Temper tantrums.  Bad news. Choosing a Rune Set: A Beginner’s Guide

Thinking about taking up the runes? Mastery of the runes can take many years, but it is not difficult for a beginner to learn the basics. (Much as young children can quickly learn their ABCs.) The first learning tool you’ll need is a rune set of your own, to begin familiarizing yourself with this ancient system of knowledge.

First, some background: Runes are archaic European letters used in magick and divination. The best-known runic alphabet is the Elder Futhark, which contains 24 symbols. There are other rune systems, such as the Younger Futhark, Northumbrian runes, and Witches’ runes. But most of the time, when people talk about reading runes, they are referring to the Elder Futhark, which fell out of use as an alphabet around the 8th century AD.

Each rune has a threefold meaning: A phonetic sound (as a letter of the alphabet), a mundane object or action that it stands for, and a mystical or abstract significance. Rune-casting—or reading the runes—is a way to activate intuition and gather information about the past, present and future. Runic symbols have powerfully condensed meaning. Sometimes, a single letter says something that paragraphs cannot.

Tarot Card of the Day

Seven of Wind

The Seven of this suit typically refers to mental preparedness, acquired through the use of imagination, including the rehearsing and visualizing of desired results. This card represents the positive mental habits of a natural winner. The image most often associated with this card is that of a canny warrior who has infiltrated into the enemy camp on the eve of a fateful battle, checking out their preparations and stealing their swords. Such a move is guaranteed to demoralize the enemy and undermine their performance in the upcoming confrontation.

Putting it in modern terms, one who draws this card needs to work smarter, not harder. Think long and deep, study all the angles and put yourself in the shoes of your competition. As a result, you will have such a thorough grasp of the whole situation that there will be no surprises — and no excuses for anything but success. Skillful preparation justifies the optimism of the natural winner.

Six of Pentacles reversed

Here’s this card again! We saw the Six of Pentacles last month as well, and it does seem that some of the lessons or struggles present in November are still with us currently. This is not unexpected. November marked the start of a chain of busy holidays; this year a number of stores where I live started merchandising for Christmas even before Halloween, and now are in full-swing with decorations and many additional products. In our spread, we have the Six of Pentacles positioned in reverse, which seems in direct alignment with this month’s theme card. I can’t help thinking about the fine line between holiday spirit and holiday pressure — pressure to find the perfect present for everyone on my list, pressure to get everything done on time… By some people’s standards, I’m already late if I’m still doing my holiday shopping now! And as noted above, if you’re operating on a budget, and many of us are, including everyone you care about and finding just the right thing for each of them can be tough.

When this card is reversed, it often indicates mishandling of resources, so I’m taking its appearance here as a warning. What sort of creative solutions might we find to honor those we love with clever gifts that don’t have to drain our resources? Last month’s appearance of this card asked us to think about different ways we could serve others. Generosity does not have to be financial, even though Pentacles are the suit of tangible concerns. There are many ways to show love. We can give others our time and energy to help improve the quality of their tangible existence. We can use our time and skills to make something for loved ones. People often say that it’s the thought that counts, but this is usually meant to excuse a lack of effort. If we put care into what we make, these gifts will be seen as both thoughtful AND enjoyable.

This card in reverse can also suggest greed, but in the current context, I would interpret that a little differently. Pressure to perform as expected can cause many of us to withdraw. I sense fear of a sort in this card, too. Perhaps we fear that others will not return our efforts of generosity. Giving to get or giving only because we received is a strangely deceptive cycle. Overall, this card is a reminder that how we treat others is important. A balance of the material and spiritual is essential for our well-being, and the act of giving supports that balance.

Considerations for the reversed Six of Pentacles:

1. What actions by others make you feel loved?
2. How do you typically show your love for others?

How to Do a Serenity Tarot Reading

A Tarot spread to help you heal and find inner peace

The famous singer Marvin Gaye once said, “If you cannot find peace within yourself, you’ll never find it anywhere else.” How true this is! Unfortunately, sometimes it seems as if life gets in the way, and achieving tranquility is harder than it should be. Are you struggling with overcoming grief, feeling bombarded by the negativity in the news, or managing some kind of internal conflict? This 6-card do-it-yourself Serenity Tarot spread shows you exactly what you need to do to clear out the emotional clutter, and put yourself back onto a more positive path. Keep reading to see how YOU can use this spread to heal.

Position 1: Foundation card

Heart of the issue

The first card of this reading takes a look at what’s really at the center of your suffering. While it’s usually pretty easy to identify how we’re feeling, sometimes we don’t know why we’re feeling the way we do. When pulling this card, make sure to sit and focus on the emotions you’re experiencing at that moment. Allow yourself to fully embrace what it is that’s going on in your head and heart. Think of this card as putting the spotlight on the darkness you’re experiencing right now.

Position 2: Barrier card

What is blocking you from healing?

The path to healing is not a straight line. The Barrier Card will help you see what it is that has been preventing you from finding the inner peace you need. Sometimes these stumbling blocks come from outside influences, and sometimes the struggle is coming from within. The message you receive from this card will allow you to confront — and deal with — what has been stopping you from finding inner peace.

Position 3: Healing card

Advice on how to move forward

When we’re swimming in an ocean of emotion, it’s not always easy to see what it is we need to do to feel good again. The third card in this spread takes a look at your situation and gives you the practical insight and advice needed to help soothe any anxiety or uncertainty you’re feeling. Think of the Healing Card as your own personal counselor, helping guide you towards a better future.

Position 4: External card

What you can do to help others

In dark times it is not only we who are hurting — others around us may be as well. We all have an internal light that acts as a beacon of hope no matter how dark these times may seem, and your External Card helps you see what this special gift is. Is your higher power that you act as a pillar of strength? Or, is it your unwavering compassion for those suffering around you?

Position 5: Internal card

What you can do to help yourself

The Tarot is known for its ability to empower us, and there is nothing more empowering than learning that everything you need to be happy is already inside of you. Think of your fifth card as your “self” card, one that shines a spotlight on your greatest source of inner strength. The insight revealed in this position will show you that not only is healing is possible, but that you already have what it takes to get there.

Position 6: Revelation card

Lessons you can learn from this situation

While it may not seem like it at the time, there is always a silver lining in times of adversity. Not only can our suffering teach us important lessons about life, but it can also teach us important lessons about ourselves. Think of your Revelation Card as a glimpse into your future — a future where you’re stronger and wiser for having gone through this situation.

No matter what it is you’re dealing with right now, this simple 6-card Tarot reading can help guide you towards a happier, brighter tomorrow. Are you ready to get started? Take a deep breath, shuffle the cards, and let the power of the Tarot guide you now.

Your Crowley Thoth Tarot Card for Today

Lust

While similar to classic Tarot’s Strength card, Lust goes a step further by suggesting we should enjoy the pleasures of exercising our strengths, sating our passions, and embracing that which allows one to express the majesty of their unique self. The lust this card indicates is not purely sexual, but at its most basic this lust is a primal desire to experience life to the fullest degree possible while taming our more beastly side. Lust implies that we not fight with our base instincts, but rather that we accept and manage and nourish them as an essential aspect of maintaining a balanced, complete self.

The Hanged Man

The Hanged Man is the most enigmatic card of the Tarot. Even Tarot giants like Waite, Crowley and Levi had trouble deciphering The Hanged Man’s true meaning. Generally The Hanged Man is thought to represent the value of surrender and selfless acts. The Hanged Man embodies the notion that sometimes to lose is to win. Unlike the aggressive Chariot, The Hanged Man creates his fate through inaction and accepts his fortune passively, without resistance. He does not struggle to control the path his life takes, but rather allows events to sweep him where they will, even if he is called upon to sacrifice himself. He is so at ease with the Fate the Universe chose for him that even hanging upside down from a tree does not ruffle his inner peace.
