Jupiter Rotates

Video Credit & Copyright: JL DauvergneMusic: Oro Aqua (Benoit Reeves)

Explanation: Observe the graceful twirl of our Solar System’s largest planet. Many interesting features of Jupiter’s enigmatic atmosphere, including dark belts and light zones, can be followed in detail. A careful inspection will reveal that different cloud layers rotate at slightly different speeds. The famous Great Red Spot is not visible at first — but soon rotates into view. Other smaller storm systems occasionally appear. As large as Jupiter is, it rotates in only 10 hours. Our small Earth, by comparison, takes 24 hours to complete a spin cycle. The featured high-resolution time-lapse video was captured over five nights earlier this month by a mid-sized telescope on an apartment balcony in ParisFrance. Since hydrogen and helium gas are colorless, and those elements compose most of Jupiter’s expansive atmosphere, what trace elements create the observed colors of Jupiter’s clouds remains a topic of research.

Jupiter, the Roman King of the Gods

In terms of Roman mythology, the god Jupiter is the king. In fact, he is often referred to as the king of the gods. He may not be the original creator of the MYTHOLOGICAL CREATURES that dominated tales and lore; that distinction belongs to his father Saturn. But Jupiter is the main man, a la ZEUS in Greek mythology.

Mythology dominated religious culture in Rome up until the point in which Christianity took over. Until that happened, Jupiter was the main deity. He was the god of the sky and, along with the help of the kings of the time, established principles of the Roman religion.

His similarities with Zeus and the GREEK MYTHS didn’t stop with their connections with the sky and thunderbolts. Jupiter was brother to two other gods: Neptune and Pluto. Like the Greeks, each of these three gods controlled one realm of existence: the sky (Jupiter), the sea (Neptune), and the underworld (Pluto), with Jupiter being the most powerful.

Rome’s Religious King…

Ancient Roman God Terminus

Terminus

From Pantheon.org – For Sources and References Roman God Terminus

“Border.” A Roman divinity presiding over boundaries and frontiers. His worship is said to have been instituted by Numa who ordered that every one should mark the boundaries of his landed property by stones to be consecrated to Jupiter (Ζεὺς ὅριος), and at which every year sacrifices were to be offered at the festival of the Terminalia.1 These sacred boundaries existed not only in regard to private property, but also in regard to the state itself, the boundary of which was not to be transgressed by any foreign foe. But in later times the latter must have fallen into oblivion, while the termini of private property retained their sacred character even in the days of Dionysius, who states that sacrifices of cakes, meal, and fruit (for it was unlawful to stain the boundary stones with blood), still continued to be offered.

The god Terminus himself appears to have been no other than Jupiter himself, in the capacity of the protector of boundaries.2 The Terminus of the Roman state originally stood between the fifth and sixth milestone on the road towards Laurentum, near a place called Festi, and that ancient/boundary of the Ager Romanus (“the field of Rome“) continued to be revered with the same ceremonies as the boundaries of private estates.3 Another public Terminus stood in the temple of Jupiter in the Capitol, and above it there was an opening in the roof, because no Terminus was allowed to be under cover.4 This is another proof that Terminus was only an attribute of Jupiter, although tradition gave a different reason for this circumstance; for when that temple was to be founded, and it was necessary to exaugurate other sanctuaries standing on the same site, all the gods readily gave way to Jupiter and Juno, but the auguries would not allow the sanctuaries of Terminus and Juventas to be removed. This was taken as an omen that the Roman state would remain ever undiminished and young, and the chapels of the two divinities were inclosed within the walls of the new temple. Here we may ask, what had a Terminus to do on the Capitol, unless he was connected or identical with Jupiter?

Moon Alert

There are no restrictions to shopping or important decisions today. The Moon is in Cancer.

Aries (March 21-April 19)

Today you want to cocoon at home; however, issues about foreign countries, travel and school plans (especially higher education) are confused. You might also feel disappointed. It’s important to stay positive. Remember: Negativity is wanting things to be different than the way they are.

Taurus (April 20-May 20)

Your emotions might rule your reasoning today. For example, you might be confused about shared property, inheritances and your responsibilities to someone. If you’re unsure – do nothing because you could be tempted to give away the farm.

Gemini (May 21-June 20)

A close friend, spouse or partner might disappoint today. You might be able to chalk this up to a communications problem? After all, unexpressed expectations almost always lead to disappointment. Keep an eye on financial matters today. Be patient with kids and social outings.

Cancer (June 21-July 22)

Today the Moon is in your sign, which means things tend to go your way. Don’t hesitate to ask the universe for a favour. (Take a shot.) Work-related issues, perhaps with coworkers, are confusing. Don’t let someone put words in your mouth. Be patient with family members, especially doing repairs and DIY projects.

Leo (July 23-Aug. 22)

Romance might be disappointing, especially regarding a secret love affair. In general, you feel a bit wary about things today, which is why you’re happy to keep a low profile. Double check details related to kids, sports and social outings to avoid misunderstandings.

Virgo (Aug. 23-Sept. 22)

You feel sympathetic to a family member today; nevertheless, perhaps you feel incapable of doing something to help? Note: You have to know what’s wrong before you fix it. A meaningful conversation with someone, especially a female, might help. Caution about going overboard redecorating.

Libra (Sept. 23-Oct. 22)

This is a strong time for you with Mercury and Mars in your sign. You’re eager to communicate and ready to act! However, today you might be confused or even deceived by a daily contact or relative. Until you know what is really going on – refrain from doing anything. Get your facts.

Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 21)

You’re in charge because Sun is in your sign! This is why people and favourable situations tend to come your way now. Double check financial matters today including major purchases so that you have no regrets in the future. Bruce’s grandma used to say, “Wantin’ ain’t gettin’.” (Yeah, she was tough.)

Sagittarius (Nov. 22-Dec. 21)

This is a good time for you to shop for wardrobe goodies for yourself. You like comfortable clothes, and especially practical, clothes for outdoors. (That’s where the car is.) You can’t please everyone today. Double check issues with purchases and spending money to avoid errors and confusion.

Capricorn (Dec. 22-Jan. 19)

Your popularity with friends and groups continues. Furthermore, authority figures are ready to hear what you have to say. Be careful of something going on behind the scenes that is fuzzy or vague. Don’t let this sway you from your mission. Be clear in communications to others.

Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 18)

A friend might disappoint you today. (This matters because friendships are important to Aquarians.) If the problem is trivial, then be forgiving because friendships have ups and downs. However, if it threatens your trust or respect for this person, it might be something you need to look at. It’s important to have friends who have your back. Hey, life is short.

Pisces (Feb. 19-March 20)

Without having to do anything special, you look great to others, especially bosses, parents and VIPs (It’s smoke and mirrors.) Use this magical influence to advance your agenda. Demand the advantage!

If Your Birthday Is Today

Actor Bob Odenkirk (1962) shares your birthday today. Although at times, you can be detached, you are a warm hearted, congenial person. You are also intelligent. You work hard and you take your responsibilities seriously. This is a fast-paced year full of change and stimulation! New friends might help you. Be open to new directions and personal growth. Expect to travel more because you are expanding your horizons.

IF YOUR BIRTHDAY IS ON OCTOBER 26, it is likely that you are an emotional individual. You have a tendency to be insecure but you are an intelligent, resilient personality. You have good instincts and are able to “read” people.

However, the October 26 birthday personality is a private person and usually doesn’t discuss business or their feelings with other people. You don’t trust a lot of people and this is a smart practice.

But you surely have friends to whom you can vent your frustrations too. Your friends and family understand that you are not perfect and have your own set of disappointments and your periods of depression or blues.

When faced with obstacles, you have what it takes to come back fighting. It would not be smart to betray someone born on October 26. This Scorpio birthday person has a long memory.

They won’t forget who caused them discomfort and discord. This could be something that you may want to take a look at also. Stress has its way of coming back to haunt you mentally and physically.

The 26th October birthday astrology predicts that you have a tendency to look over your shoulders a lot looking for something to happen. This, also, could be because of the fact you seek revenge on people. Maybe you should find other ways of dealing with your anger and emotions. In a romantic relationship, one may find this 26th October birthday zodiac person to be jealous and controlling.

Be that as it may, you are knowledgeable and are smarter than the average bear. You have the gift of perception and insight so it’s hard for anyone to pull the wool over your eyes. Through this, however, you still find time to help people and have a hard time when you can’t.

Friends are few but that’s your choice. The October 26 birthday people prefer a small circle as opposed to a large group of associations. Your friends say that you are charming but you have the capability of being incredibly manipulative. However, you are not that heartless. You love deeply when you find a loyal and true friend or lover. Having the respect of people is more important to you than self-gratification.

The 26 October birthday horoscope foretells that career choices are many for those born on this day. You are particularly interested in professions that offer some crime or adventure. Forensic science is a growing program that can provide extensive training and hands on experience.

You are always in the know of things anyway so this will only accent your abilities. At the end of the day, having a Scorpio as your fearless leader could be the best idea yet. Besides being intelligent, you are not afraid and you tend to be protective of the people and things you care about.

Since you are willing to study for a new career, you will find yourself doing a lot of research… and liking it! You, as a team player, can go at it alone but you are very comfortable working by yourself and away from the spotlight. When it comes to money, the 26 October birthday personality would prefer to have it in the bank. You will not splurge on things you could live without. Your philosophy lies somewhere along the lines of being cheap. “Let me find out” you still have a flip phone!

The October 26 birthday meanings suggest that you are not the easiest person to understand or to get close to. You are a person who would rather talk about the latest news rather than the latest gossip. This does not appeal to you as you know gossip is mainly made up of lies and half-truths.

On the other hand, if you do find this Scorpio deep in a conversation about who, what, when and where, beware. The scorpion is probably setting a trap or at best, find out things they just have a need to know.

If today October 26 is your birthday, then you are concerned about your health. You stick to your eating schedules and meal planners. You prefer things like tennis, cycling, yoga, and meditation to physical exercise that requires sweat and pain. Looking good is important to you and your image but it should not hurt or so you say, Scorpio.

Generally, as someone born on October 26, you are a restless individual but you are motivated by success. You analyze almost everybody you come in contact with. This Scorpio is very capable of being passionate and mysterious at the same time.

You know your worth but don‘t find it necessary to flaunt it. Use that leverage when you need to let it all go. As a drawback or negative influence, you may suffer from paranoia.

The Scorpio 2021 horoscope advises discretion, which can sometimes be difficult for Scorpios to manage. Keep your romantic relationships on the down-low. Keep information about your work and finances to yourself as well. Being too social about these things may put them in jeopardy. So, try to live this year coyly; doing so will lead you to success.

Scorpio 2021 Love Predictions

The love prediction for Scorpio in 2021 suggests a major change in your romantic relationship. If you are already dating someone, then this might be the perfect year for you to become engaged. It is best to propose between

mid-April and the first week of May, when Venus is in Taurus.

If engagement is not on your mind, then it is other big questions that will rear their head in your relationship. Is it the right time to have a baby? If you are single, should you try to begin a romantic relationship? If you are in a relationship, is it time to break up? Consider these questions early on in the year. By autumn, Mars in Capricorn will let you know what to do.

A Thought for Today

Dear Sisters, Brothers, and Honored Guests today I leave you with this thought…

One thing I would like to add to Frank Lloyd Wright’s quote is

Anywhere you go the forests, water ways, or a walk around your block take a bag with you for trash. As Pagans, which first meant peasant but as evolve to mean people who follow nature’s spiritual paths, it is our duty to pick up what others were to lazy to dispose of properly. I started out doing this on my own as my children grew old enough to take a walk outside with me and than doing the same with my grandchildren. Who passed it on to their playmates and still do it even with some of my grandchildren being over 20, a couple in college, and the others starting in grammar or pre-school. So I ask you not to think of Earth Day is only on April 22 but as it being every day of the week.

Blessed be dear ones.

Ancient Rome A superstitious Society

From HistoryCooperative.org – To read the rest of the article about Omens and Superstations

A superstitious Society

Compare to modern society, the Romans seem extremely superstitious. But then today’s major religions have all throughout their past discouraged, even combatted, superstitions. Also our sciences and our technological world allows little room for superstition.

The Romans lived in an era previous to this. Their world was full of unexplained phenomena, darkness and fear. To Romans these superstitions were a perfectly natural part in the relationship between gods and men.

The Roman habit of interpreting natural phenomena as signs from the beyond stemmed from the Etruscans. The Etruscans, who developed reading omens and auspices into a form of science, knew different means of divination. In their beliefs the signs they read were sent to them by a mythical boy called Tages, who in their mythology was to have been ploughed up from the earth.

They would seek to read the future by examining the entrails of sacrificial animals, the liver being of special importance for that purpose. They would observe lighting and interpret its meanings. And they would try and put meaning to any unusual phenomena which occured.

The belief that objects, or living beings could possess special spiritual properties was widespread in primitive societies. The Romans were no strangers to this idea. Stones, trees, springs, caves, lakes, swamps, mountains – even animals and furniture – were all deemed to be hosts to spirits (numina). Stones in particular were often seen to contain spirits, especially if they were boundary stones, dividing one man’s property from the other.

It is very telling that the Latin word for such a boundary is terminus and that there actually was a Roman god called Terminus. This odd deity took the form of a huge piece of rock which rested in the temple of Jupiter on the Capitoline Hill. Apparently several attempts to move the bolder when…

Herbal correspondences include many members of the mint family. Utilize wintergreen or peppermint, as well as catnip, comfrey, sage, and chamomile in your workings.

When it comes to Monday magic, because of that lunar connection, it’s a good time to focus on workings related to childbearing and family life, purity and virginity, healing, wisdom, and intuition. Do a little bit of self-exploration and work on developing your intuition—learn to trust your gut. Celebrate birth and life, and make some magic to fix what is broken.

From A Pagan Mess

Planet: Moon
Element: Water
Colors: Silver, White, Blue, Grey
Keywords: Illusions, Divination, Glamour, Peace, Dreams, Emotions, Insight, Wisdom

Mondays are great for anything dreamy or connected to the non-physical. The energy of the moon is generally softer and about illusion and things we can’t always seen. It is also great for connecting with emotions and gaining insight through things like divination. The gentle energy of Mondays also make them a great day to adjust any workings you have in progress that may need revisions.
