A Laugh for Today

Some of the Witchcraft/Magickal Correspondences for Thursday

Thursday (Thor’s day)

Planet: Jupiter

Colors: Purple, Deep Blue

Crystals: Amethyst, Lepidolite, Sugilite, Tin

Aroma: Melissa, Clove, Oakmoss, Jupiter Oil, Cinnamon, Musk, Nutmeg, and Sage

Herb: Cinquefoil

Ruled by the planet Jupiter and dedicated to Thor, god of thunder and agricultural work. His parallels in various European Traditions include Zeus, Taranis, Perun, and Perkunas.

Magical aspects: controlled optimism, energetic growth, physical well-being, material success, expansion, money/wealth, prosperity, leadership, and generosity.

Thursday is the day of Jupiter, the largest of the planets and said to be the most powerful. Spellcasters would be wise to use this day for attempting wealth, success and prosperity spells.

Thursday is also associated (in Greek mythology) to Thor – Thor’s day – and some even say that Jupiter and Thor are one in the same. Both are strong and powerful, yet wise and just. Try a small prayer to Jupiter before commencing any ritual on Thursday as a sign of respect.

This is the proper day of the week to perform spells and rituals involving luck, happiness, health, legal matters, male fertility, treasure, wealth, honour, riches, clothing, money, desires, business, group pursuits, joy, laughter, and expansion

A Thought for Today – Soul Contract

The idea bred false conclusions

And a fateful contract

Signed in blood

Ancient text with ancient rite

Demon summoning

Lonely crossroads

It sounded easy

No payment due

Saved until a future day

Bargaining with your soul

What’s the value

None can say

They rather trade it away

Earthly pleasures

They’re easy to see

Wealth, fame, power

Living life so lavishly

Yet time

Time’s a mortal enemy

Try not to think

That eternal damnation

A constant cycle of cremation

But only after pain

And so much suffering

Distract yourself

Try not to see

Deal with it eventually

You want it now

Everything

Eternal youth and diamond rings

Pleasures only flesh can bring

Forgotten was the ancient spell

Your private highway

Your road to hell

Tied now to the hourglass

Amazing run will travel fast

The pact fulfilled

The payment due

Now he comes

Comes for you

Famous Pacts with Demons

Robert Johnson – American Blues Musician – His shadowy life and early death at age 27 gave rise to the legend that he traded his soul to the devil for fame and fortune

Johann Faust – Fifteenth century alchemist, astrologer, and magician whose life became the focal character in the popular tale of Dr. Faust who entered into a pact with Mephistopheles, exchanging his soul for 24 years of service.

Urbain Grandier – A French Catholic priest who was burned at the stake for witchcraft in 1634.  One of the documents used in his trial was a pact between the devil and Grandier, written in Latin and covered in strange markings.  It was known as the  Pactum foederis Urbani Grandieri.

March Astrology Events Taking Place in 2023

From msn.com

Ready to stop and smell the roses? March astrology events not only usher in a new season—hello, spring equinox—but a new mindset that’ll help us embrace deep transformations.

There’s a lot to jot down, so we hope you have your 2023 planners handy (which make great astrology gifts, as you likely know).

March astrology events in 2023

This month, we will part ways with Pisces season, enter Aries season and gear up for the “hugely impactful movements” headed our way, according to our March 2023 horoscope. If you’re curious to see what the stars have in store, allow our cosmic experts to give you the scoop on the Universe’s next moves.

(Oh, and better enjoy the calm before the storm—no planets are in retrograde, but that will change come April with none other than Mercury retrograde 2023.)

Pisces Season

  • When: February 18 to March 20, 2023

Pisces season 2023 is making room for the newness that’s about to enter your life this spring.

“Clearing out the old is exactly what will make you thrive during and after this season,” Nebula’s astrologer, Patrick Price previously told us. “To do this, you must declutter. And, yes, this means your physical space and things, but also the mental and emotional.”

Jupiter conjuncts Venus

  • When: March 1, 2023

When Venus conjuncts Jupiter, things will feel auspicious, particularly for the luckiest star sign in March.

“It’s the perfect time to celebrate love, friendship and new opportunities,” says astrologer Michelle Bell, the founder of the Cosmic Fusion app. “For Aries in particular it could also mean travel, new business opportunities and money-making ventures.

The Full Moon

  • When: March 7, 2023

The March full moon 2023 is going to be an exciting lunation for everyone, regardless of what their astrological birth charts say.

“There is a lot of positivity to look forward to around the full moon: increased clarity, bold action-taking, attracting money easily and even connecting meaningfully with loved ones,” Price, previously told us.

The New Moon

  • When: March 21, 2023

“The new moon in Aries at the end of March is one of our last chances to set lunar intentions and manifestations before the first eclipse portal begins in April,” says astrologer Liz Simmons. “The new moon is bold, fresh and fiery—a perfect lunation to ring in the astrological new year and spring.”

Spring Equinox

  • When: March 21, 2023

It’s like spring cleaning for the stars. The equinox is a motivating and rejuvenating experience.

“It’s a time of renewed energy, motivation and outward focus, so reach out to friends and start putting a fire under your personal goals,” astrologer Nina Kahn previously told us.

Aries season

  • When: March 21 to April 20, 2023

It’s OK to be a little selfish during Aries season—it’s actually encouraged.

“It’s a great time to set intentions for you as a person, not including anything else or anyone else in that vision,” Simmons said. “[It’s time to] do things for us: honor ourselves, honor our bodies and do things that work for us.”

Happy March, friends! Enjoy all that the cosmos have to offer.

March Birthstone Color and Flower and more March Birthday Symbols

From monthlybirthstones.com

The March Birthstone is Aquamarine

The birthstone for March is Aquamarine and thus the March birthstone color is light blue, the primary shade of Aquamarine.

The alternative March gemstone is earthy Bloodstone and both gems are listed as official March birthstones.

Aquamarine is one of the Zodiac birthstones for Pisces (Feb 20 – Mar 20), and Bloodstone is one of the zodiac birthstones for both Pisces and Aries (Mar 21 – Apr 19) star signs. Other birthday symbols include the March birth flower which is the Daffodil.

The word ‘Aquamarine’ means ‘water of the sea’ in Latin and this gemstone is associated with many legends of sailors. It also aptly reflects the tranquil blue-greens of the ocean, symbolizing calm and peace.

Besides being a meaningful March birthday gift, Aquamarine jewelry is also given to celebrate a 19th wedding anniversary.

Watch the short, informative videos below highlighting the history, symbolism and properties of this beautiful gemstone.

March Birthstone Color: Light Blue

The birthstone color for March is light blue and comes from March’s birthstone Aquamarine. Aquamarine crystals are generally very pale in color to almost transparent and are rarely found naturally in darker blue shades. Light blue is also considered the Pisces birthstone color for Pisceans born in March.

The Aquamarine mineral is a type of beryl and is formed over millions of years when water became trapped in rock cavities during geological processes. The six main varieties of beryl are aquamarine (blue-green), emerald (green), morganite (pink), red beryl (red), heliodor (yellow) and maxixe (deep blue).

Most Aquamarine comes from the Minas Gerais region in Brazil but it is also mined in Afghanistan and Pakistan in Asia; and Madagascar, Mozambique, Nigeria and Zambia in Africa. Many trade names for the different colors of Aquamarine are based on the country where that color was first discovered eg. Brazil Aquamarine, Madagascar Aquamarine.

One of the largest aquamarine crystals of over 10 000 carats was found in Brazil in the 1980s, and is called Dom Pedro after the Brazilian emperors. A German gemstone artist cut the crystal into a brilliant light reflecting obelisk which is now housed in the Smithsonian Museum.

Often Aquamarine is heat treated to remove impurities and improve its clear blue color, a widely accepted practice in the jewelry trade. If very pale Aquamarine is irradiated to darken the blue color, it is then known as blue beryl. The attractive blue shades of Aquamarine are popular in gemstone jewelry and in particular March birthstone jewelry.

Alternative March Birthstone: Bloodstone

The alternative birthstone for March is earthy colored Bloodstone also known as Heliotrope. It is a green opaque micro-crystalline quartz dotted with red spots caused by iron oxides. These red spots resemble drops of blood, hence the gemstone’s name and legends of Bloodstone associated with the blood of Christ on the cross.

Bloodstone is a soft stone usually carved into cabochons and various shapes by artisans, or simply set as polished pendants highlighting the striking colors in jewelry for March birthdays.

Full Moon and New Moon for March 2023

From moongiant.com

March 2023 Moon Details

The Full Moon for this month will occur early in the month on Tuesday, March 7th. The New Moon will happen later in March on Tuesday, March 21st.

March Full Worm Moon

March’s full moon is commonly called the Full Worm Moon. This is because of the earthworms that wriggle out of the ground as the earth begins to thaw in March. Here’s a little known fact about March’s full moon: it was called the Worm Moon only by Southern Native American tribes. In fact, there’s no way the Northern tribes would have ever called it the Worm Moon – and the reason why is fascinating.

Essentially, earthworms did not exist in Northern America. It would be literally impossible for Northern tribes to see worms popping up in March. All the earthworms you see in Northern America today are invasive species brought in by colonists. These earthworms were brought over either out of a misguided intent to help fertilize the soil, or as an accident along with transported plants or the soil used for ballast in ships. Little did the colonists know that during the last ice age, glaciers had spread so far across Canada and the northern parts of the United States that all earthworms had been completely wiped out.

When the deep ice melted 12,000 years ago, the native forests in those areas grew back and adapted to the loss of earthworms. The growth of these forests became dependent on a layer of duff, which is a compost layer comprised of decomposing leaves and other rotting organic matter. If you ever visit one of these native forests, you will be asked to clean your shoes and make sure it’s free of earthworm eggs. That’s because while it’s normally harmless everywhere else, earthworms will aggressively destroy the native forest’s duff layer by eating right through it.

This is why in Northern American tribes such as the Shawnee tribe, the Worm Moon is called the Sap Moon instead, as a reminder for the tribes that they can begin tapping maple syrup. In general, March’s full moon is known as a herald for the beginning of spring and new agricultural cycles. The Anglo-Saxons even used the Worm Moon as a way to predict the state of their crops. They called it the Storm Moon if it was stormy, which was a sign that their crops would fail. But if it was dry, they called it the Rugged Moon, an indication of a bounteous harvest.

One of its other names is the Chaste Moon, symbolizing the purity of early spring. The Pueblo tribe named it the Moon When the Leaves Break Forth, while in Shoshone culture it was known as the Warming Moon. Sometimes it is called the Crow Moon, after the crows and other birds that appear as winter draws to a close. Other times, it’s called the Crust Moon, because of the snow that becomes crusty when it thaws in the sun and freezes in the moonlight.

In India, March’s full moon is also seen as a symbol of the arrival of spring, and coincides with the festival of Holi. This is a riotous party where Indian communities all around the world engage in a huge water fight. Everyone goes out into the streets and sprays each other with colored water and powders, singing and dancing with strangers and loved ones alike. Playing and feasting together is a chance for you to repair relationships that have gone bad, reaffirming your existing social bonds as you move forward together into the new year.

March 2023 Gardening Moon Calendar

From mooncalendar.astro-seek.com

Please read this first:

1) Moon Phase x Moon Zodiac Sign:

Please keep in mind, that Gardening by Moon Phase and Gardening by Moon Zodiac Sign are two different/independent biodynamic systems and they might give you different or contradictiory gardening recommendations.

  • a) Each Moon Phase (except Full Moon and New Moon) lasts about 1 week
  • b) Each Moon Zodiac Sign lasts about 2.5 days

Try to experiment with these two systems to find which recommendations suits you the most.

2) Tropical (Astrological) x Sidereal (Astronomical) Zodiac:
(1-2 days difference in Leaf, Fruit, Root and Flower days)

There are two different zodiacs for determining the Moon Sign:

  • a) Tropical zodiac (Astrological) is based on the seasons – Vernal Equinox is fixed as 0° Aries (The 1st Fruit day)
  • b) Sidereal zodiac (Astronomical) takes into account Precession of Equinoxes and shifts 0° Aries back by cca 1-2 days. Maria Thun who was an authority on biodynamics was using this Sidereal zodiac

Try to experiment also with these two zodiac systems to find which system suits you better.

Moon Opposition Saturn
MoonOppositionSaturn SPRAYING DAYS

  • Spraying Biodynamic preparations out during Moon opposition Saturn increases soil activity.
  • The MoonMoon represents fertility and germination, while SaturnSaturn represents form and strong structure.
  • It is also a perfect time to plant seeds out.

MAR. 9: Mother Goddess Day – honoring all Mother Goddesses – the loving, nurturing Goddess.

MAR. 11: Great Night of Shiva: vigil and feast for Transcendence

MAR. 14: Egyptian Festival of Au Set: Snake Goddess who wards off poverty

MAR. 20-21: Sumerian Festival – celebrating the return of Dumuzi (God of Life and Death) from the Underworld to be with Inanna (Goddess of Life) for the verdant part of the year.

MAR. 20 or 21: OSTARA SABBAT: Spring Equinox; The Goddess of Spring.Spring Equinox aka Vernal Equinox aka Ostara. Marks the beginning of Spring. Days and nights are exactly equal, the sun rises and sets in the exact east and west. This holiday represents the first creation, but also the annual creation (planting so crops grow each year) and most symbolic, the perpetual creation. Fertility symbols abound such as eggs and rabbits. Spring or Vernal Equinox begins a forty day period which culminates with May Day, another fertility Spring festival of ancient origin. The other three forty day periods are: Fall Equinox (Sept 22 or 23) to Halloween/AllSaints Day (Oct. 31, Nov.1), Dec. 25 to Imbolc/Candlemas (Feb 1 or 2) and of course, Lent. Lent is the forty day period beginning on Ash Wednesday and ending on Easter Sunday every year.

MAR. 24: Feast Day of Archangel Gabriel whose name means, “The High One’s Hero,” or “Hero of God,” or “Power of God,” or “Might of God.” Note this day comes one day before Annunciation Day when Gabriel performed his most famous task. Since 1970, the Catholic Church no longer recognizes this day for Gabriel, ending a thousand year plus tradition by opting to lump him in with Raphael and Michael for a Feast of the Holy Archangels Day on Sept 29. Originally the Church had an angel for each of the four “corners” of the year, the solstices and equinoxes. It was the Church’s only recognition of these “pagan” holy days.

MAR. 25: Lady Day – honoring the Crone as Grandmother; Mother of the Mother.

MAR. 30: Babylonian Day of Bau: Mother of Ea (The Earth)

Solar Witch: How to Cast SUN MAGICK in 11 Ways

All these witches be talkin’ about the moon. Moon phases, rituals and moon water. But what about the witches who prefer the sun? Do they exist? Yes, we do! I know because I’m one of them. If you feel empowered by the sun more than the moon, you might be a solar witch. And if you’d just like to incorporate more sun magick into your practice, we’ve got you covered!

A Solar Witch & The Sun’s Magick

What makes the sun magical? Is it the same type of magick as the moon? The sun fuels all life on this planet. While the moon has a huge effect on us, and pulls the tides, I’d venture to say the sun is more important. If I had to choose one. (Lunar witches don’t be mad at me!) The sun is necessary for many reasons including the growth of plants and trees, for our own physical and mental health, and to keep our planet warm and alive! Sun = LIFE.

11 Ways to Make SUN MAGICK

The way the solar witch makes sun magick is only limited by imagination and inspiration. Forge your own path, but if you need ideas:

1. Sunbathing

2. Magical Timing With the Sun

3. Sun Water

4. Sun & Fire Plants

5. Seasons & Sabbats

6. Sun Magick with Colors

7. Sun Tea

8. Solar Plexus

9. Sun Salutations

Goddess OF The Day: MIELIKKI

MIELIKKI

Tyvendedagen (Norway)

Themes: Change; Providence
Symbols: Bear; Grain; Woodland Plants

About Miellikki: The Finnish Goddess of game, hunting, and the forest,
Mielikki protects our resources during the remaining cold season by
keeping the pantry filled. As the Goddess of abundant grain, she also
encourages the return of fertility to the earth.
To Do Today: Go into your kitchen and get a small handful of any
grain-based cereal. Take this outside and release a pinch of it to the
earth, saying,
Mielikki, see this grain and bless, return to earth in fruitfulness.
Hear the prayer that fills my heart; to my home, providence impart.
Take the remaining pinch back in the house and store it in an airtight
container, symbolically preserving your resources.
Tyvendedagen means “twentieth day after Christmas.” In Norway, today
marks the official end of the Yule season. It’s celebrated with races,
sleigh rides and the storage of ornaments and by burning the Christmas
tree to drive away winter. So, when you dismantle your Yule tree, keep a
jar full of its needles handy. Burn these throughout the year to banish
frosty feelings or to warm up a chilly relationship. The pine smoke,
being from a woodland tree, also draws Mielikki’s attention to any
pressing needs you may have.

Cattywampus is an American-based colloquialism or slang that etymologists believe to be of Scottish influence. We use “cattywampus” in the English language as an adjective. The word has alternate spellings and we also use it as “catawampus.” This American-based noun modifier has a multi-part description. In one sense of the word, “cattywampus” describes people, places or things we believe to be fierce, animal-like or savage. When used in this sense, the word describes someone we see as frightening.

In a Sentence

The cattywampus became upset and lunged at me!

I’m terribly afraid of a “cattywampus” staring at me when I ride public transportation.

That “cattywampus” of a woman is coming this way, and she looks very upset!

Etymologists say we find the word “cattywampus” used in North American-based slang in the late 1800s. American English-speakers used “cattywampus” to describe people with outrageous temperaments and those seen to go “off-kilter” or ‘awry’ with little provocation. This colloquial slang has been in use with its original definition since its inception in 1864.
