March 5 – Daily Feast

March 5 – Daily Feast

It is sad when our children have not been able to reply on us to build their self-esteem. The Cherokees call it, qa lv quo di. Even those of us that have come a long way have memories that need a loving touch. Parents teach only what they know to teach. But we are not set forever in one direction. We reach an age when we must teach ourselves. We learn to forgive and to understand that when we get to the fork in the road we will know the right way. Why go the wrong way because someone before us did? If our self-esteem has been damaged, feeding it more pity and more ill-treatment is not healing it. Criticism is passed to us the same way blue eyes and dark hair are inherited. But criticism can be changed and replaced with love. This is a decision that changes our lives – and those who follow as well.

Daily Feng Shui News for Feb. 13 – ‘Madly In Love With Me Day’

A long time ago I learned an ancient self-love technique from a Balinese shaman that greatly helps to increase a sense of self-worth and esteem. This is an especially applicable tip to share on today’s ‘Madly In Love With Me Day.’ Every morning when you awake, look into your eyes in the mirror and mean it when you say to yourself, ‘I love you.’ Do this every morning for 40 straight days and you won’t believe how great you feel about yourself at the end of this entire exercise.

The Peacock

The iridescent emerald plumage and spectacular broad tail of The Peacock make it the ideal symbol of both justified pride and vanity. It denotes the right for one to be proud of themselves for being who they are and for letting others know. In short, its okay to strut a bit. At the same time The Peacock reminds us that while pride and high self esteem are essential components of a healthy psyche, becoming too full of one’s self makes us vain, and vanity is never attractive in anyone.

As a daily card, The Peacock is reminder that you are inherently valuable, and have a right to be proud of who you are as well as let others know you are proud of yourself. It is also a warning to not allow you pride and sense of self worth grow to such grand proportions that you become vain and conceited.

Daily OM for Dec. 2nd – An Unwavering Connection to the Infinite

An Unwavering Connection to the Infinite

by Madisyn Taylor

Your worth is not a product of your intelligence, your talent, your looks, or how much you have accomplished.

Though much of who and what we are changes as we journey through life, our inherent worth remains constant. While the term self-worth is often used interchangeably with self-esteem, the two qualities are inherently different. Self-esteem is the measure of how you feel

about yourself at a given moment in time. Your worth, however, is not a product of your intelligence, your talent, your looks, your good works, or how much you have accomplished. Rather it is immeasurable and unchanging manifestation of your eternal and infinite oneness with the universe. It represents the cornerstone of the dual foundations of optimism and self-belief. Your worth cannot be taken from you or damaged by life’s rigors, yet it can easily be forgotten or even actively ignored. By regularly acknowledging your self-worth, you can ensure that you never forget what an important, beloved, and special part of the universe you are.

You are born worthy—your worth is intertwined with your very being. Your concept of your own self-worth is thus reinforced by your actions. Each time you endeavor to appreciate yourself, treat yourself kindly, define your personal boundaries, be proactive in seeing that your needs are met, and broaden your horizons, you express your recognition of your innate value. During those periods when you have lost sight of your worth, you will likely feel mired in depression, insecurity, and a lack of confidence. You’ll pursue a counterfeit worth based on judgment rather than the beauty that resides within. When you feel worthy, however, you will accept yourself without hesitation. It is your worth as an individual who is simultaneously interconnected with all living beings that allows you to be happy, confident, and motivated. Because your conception of your worth is not based on the fulfillment of expectations, you’ll see your mistakes and failures as just another part of life’s journey.

Human beings are very much like drops of water in an endless ocean. Our worth comes from our role as distinct individuals as well as our role as an integral part of something larger than ourselves. Simply awakening to this concept can help you rediscover the copious and awe-inspiring worth within each and every one of us.

The Daily OM

Daily Horoscopes for Tuesday, November 19th

A growing sense of optimism continues to be the major theme today as the flighty Gemini Moon helps us sever attachments to unproductive negative emotions. We’re still dealing with intense feelings, yet the weight of our worries seems to be lighter now as active Mars forms a supportive sextile with confident Jupiter, enabling us to channel energies that were previously blocked. Changing our attitudes can transform challenges into accomplishments.

Aries Horoscope

(Mar 21 – Apr 19)

You’re feeling your oats today and are ready to express your newfound confidence through direct action. Your key planet Mars is supported by the larger-than-life visions of Jupiter, encouraging you to put your very best foot forward. But don’t just fall into the more-is-better trap, especially when taking on a new project. It’s easier to start off small and expand later than it is to overextend and then have to cut back when you’ve gone too far.

Taurus Horoscope

(Apr 20 – May 20)

Normally, you can set a pace and sustain it until you reach your goal. But now you may be so caught up in the excitement of the present moment that you forget about your limits; you might even believe that you are invincible. Fortunately, your actions still could bring good fortune, even if you rush in today before considering the consequences. However, it’s tempting to be distracted by the next captivating idea or shiny object. Consciously focusing on a single destination is your best assurance that you’ll arrive on time.

Gemini Horoscope

(May 21 – Jun 20)

You might become involved in stressful relationship dynamics at work today even if you approach the situation with a sense of detachment. Although you can’t prevent other people’s feelings from impacting your life, you can choose where to put your attention. Thankfully, you’re able to distance yourself from someone else’s drama if you establish clear boundaries and stick to them. Ironically, you may be most helpful now by retreating enough to maintain your emotional balance so you lead by example instead.

Cancer Horoscope

(Jun 21 – Jul 22)

You have enough stamina today to finish whatever you start, so push yourself to accomplish as much as you can. However, your exuberance could pull you in too many directions, mostly as a result of your need for amusement. Remember, the more dedicated you are to your work, the sooner you’ll be able to freely apply your excess energy to fun activities. Seize this opportunity to strut your stuff and prove your strength.

Leo Horoscope

(Jul 23 – Aug 22)

Not everyone understands your methods today, but you still may receive the recognition you want anyhow. Meanwhile, you are content to play a role behind the scenes in support of a larger goal now, and naturally, this makes you a better team player. Whether at work or at home, be sure to include others in what you are doing to help your cause. Shining your spirit of generosity won’t lead you astray.

Virgo Horoscope

(Aug 23 – Sep 22)

Approaching your career goals in a new way might make all the difference in the world. Perhaps you are growing tired of doing something with such regularity that it is beginning to get on your nerves. However, you could find the courage to try an alternate method today. Fortunately, if it doesn’t work, you can go back to the drawing board to create another plan. But if it does succeed, this little breakthrough brings you joy during the days ahead.

Libra Horoscope

(Sep 23 – Oct 22)

An uncharacteristic longing for an exotic adventure can impact your daily routine today. Your imagination is more vivid than usual, making it necessary to keep your fantasies to yourself now. There’s nothing wrong with escaping into your dream world for a while, but sharing your inner process at work is quite challenging. Unless you want to complicate things at work, wait until you are safely at home before you let your guard down. Reveal your desires only to someone you trust.

Scorpio Horoscope

(Oct 23 – Nov 21)

It feels as if you know what you need but someone close to you has become a fly in your ointment today, oblivious to your desires. Nevertheless, you’re optimistic about your potential; you know that success is yours if you maintain a positive attitude and continue to do the work. If you recently suffered from low self-esteem, it’s time to reconnect with a more positive view of you. Leave your doubts behind; set new goals and move boldly toward them.

Sagittarius Horoscope

(Nov 22 – Dec 21)

There’s not much that can bring you down today because your key planet Jupiter is receiving an energetic blast from red-hot Mars. Someone might think that you have gone over the top, but you probably believe there is still room for more. For everyone’s sake, don’t expect anyone to match your level of enthusiasm. Although you may be soaring high above the clouds, remember that other people are still on the ground.

Capricorn Horoscope

(Dec 22 – Jan 19)

Your behavior gives away your heart’s desires today, and there is little you can do to hide what you want. The good news is that satisfaction is within reach, but not if you just assume you should have whatever you wish because you deserve it. Feeling self-confident is a great start, but a positive attitude is not enough on its own; you must earn your rewards now through hard work. Thankfully, you’ll be smiling soon enough if you keep the distractions to a minimum.

Aquarius Horoscope

(Jan 20 – Feb 18)

Expressing your enthusiasm at work is normally a smart strategy, yet it might get you into major trouble now. Unfortunately, knowing you should keep your big ideas to yourself probably won’t be much of a deterrent. Luckily, you can minimize conflict if you simply stay aware of everything that’s happening around you. However, problems arise when you forget about using your common sense. Others are watching your every move; if they tell you that you’re overstepping your bounds, listen to them before it’s too late.

Pisces Horoscope

(Feb 19 – Mar 20)

You have an enormous reserve of positive energy today, yet you might burn through it without even realizing what you’ve done. Thankfully, a little caution goes a long way and you can easily remember to conserve your resources now before it’s too late. Most everyone is willing to appreciate what you do, but you have such a complex agenda that you could get tripped up by your own desires. The clearer you are about your motives, the better the outcome.

Your Love Horoscopes for the Week of July 29th

Look out for turbulence on the relationship front early in the week with an evolutionary Venus-Pluto trine occurring on Tuesday and a revolutionary Mars-Uranus square happening on Wednesday. Friday’s cosmic atmosphere is friendly and flirtatious with the chatty Gemini Moon and a charming Venus-Mars connection running the show. This favorable alignment of astrology’s planetary lovers invites lighthearted and romantic behavior that makes it easy to meet someone new. Yet emotions are likely to go deeper on Saturday after the Moon swims into the sensitive waters of Cancer, reminding us not to play with the hearts of others unless we are prepared to play for keeps.

Aries Horoscope
Aries Horoscope (Mar 21 – Apr 19)

A volatile Mars-Uranus square may provoke impulsive behavior on Wednesday. You’re not in the mood to compromise or adhere to anyone else’s schedule. But bailing out might be better than waiting until the weekend when even the slightest shift in plans can add chaos to your personal life. If you’re caught up in intense feelings, finishing business from the past is wiser than rushing into something new. Embrace the unexpected on Sunday when surprises are likely to pop up unannounced.

Taurus Horoscope
Taurus Horoscope (Apr 20 – May 20)

Your ability to evaluate relationships is very astute on Monday and Tuesday with the reflective Moon’s presence in your realistic sign. Knowing what people to trust and which habits to change allows you to let go of what you don’t need or to invest more effort in going after what you want. Friday’s cosmic playground provides a place to play with the flirty Gemini Moon hanging out in your 2nd House of Self-Esteem while a Venus-Mars sextile encourages romance. But it’s back to more serious matters once the Moon slips into needy Cancer and your 3rd House of Information early Saturday morning. Prepare for a bumpy ride throughout much of the rest of the weekend. Bring your sense of humor and a willingness to communicate if you want to win someone’s heart.

Gemini Horoscope
Gemini Horoscope (May 21 – Jun 20)

You can be the life of the party on Thursday and Friday with the Moon dancing in your clever sign. Attracting people comes easily with your friendly and flirty attitude, so just be careful not to make any promises you can’t keep. The Moon enters moody Cancer in the wee hours of Saturday morning and runs a gauntlet of challenging planetary connections, leading you through an emotional maze. Explosions are possible, so avoid provocative words to keep things peaceful. On the other hand, if the status quo needs shaking, Sunday is your day to create positive change.

Cancer Horoscope
Cancer Horoscope (June 21 – Jul 22)

Buckle your seat belt this weekend because you’re in for a wild ride through every aspect of relationships before it’s over. The Moon’s shift into your intuitive sign in the first hour of Saturday morning sets the stage for some powerful experiences. Challenging lunar connections with unpredictable Uranus and provocative Pluto intensifies emotions during the evening. Yet if you learn to adjust to surprises with an open heart on Sunday, you will be rewarded with feelings of freedom and freshness in ways you didn’t expect.

Leo Horoscope
Leo Horoscope (Jul 23 – Aug 22)

The week starts on solid ground regarding relationships. You can see yourself more objectively, which helps you to appreciate your assets and also recognize where you have some more work to do. The weekend turns weird on Saturday when you might want to get out of the line of fire. There’s electricity in the air and it’s not necessarily the kind that leads to clarity, so bide your time instead of impatiently pushing ahead. Sunday’s cosmic configurations may leave you little choice but to follow your bliss.

Virgo Horoscope
Virgo Horoscope (Aug 23 – Sep 22)

Your common sense in regards to relationships is particularly incisive on Tuesday due to a Venus-Pluto Trine influencing your 1st House of Self. If you’ve been trying to come to a decision about someone, this cosmic setting should provide you with the insight you need to make the correct choice. The weekend, though, may be overtaken by friends who are going through crises, real or imagined. While it’s sweet of you to offer your assistance, there are some strong emotions running amok that might not be easily managed by anyone. The best thing you can do is let your love-light shine as an example for others to follow.

Libra Horoscope
Libra Horoscope (Sep 23 – Oct 22)

Tuesday is the day for digging deep to discover what your heart truly wants while you have a Venus-Pluto trine working on your behalf. You’re feeling confident and sexy on Friday, making it a great time to explore unfamiliar social territory. The inquisitive Gemini Moon is traveling through your adventurous 9th House while your alluring ruling planet Venus is cuddling up with passionate Mars. The rest of the weekend, though, may find you unsuccessfully attempting to maintain order and stick to a schedule. Keep on your toes since circumstances and moods can change too quickly to gather the cooperation that you seek.

Scorpio Horoscope
Scorpio Horoscope (Oct 23 – Nov 21)

If you’re sitting on the fence regarding relationships, you’re likely to jump off of it this weekend. The Moon in sister water sign Cancer sets an emotional tone starting in the wee hours of Saturday morning. Lunar connections with enthusiastic Jupiter, exotic Pluto and erratic Uranus fill Saturday with surprises of all sorts. Going to extremes, both positive and negative, can lead to some interesting places, but not the kind of comfy ones where you can settle down. There’s no time for rest on Sunday when the Sun trines spontaneous Uranus; embrace the unknown and enjoy the ride.

Sagittarius Horoscope
Sagittarius Horoscope (Nov 22 – Dec 21)

Pure play and pleasure are on the agenda for Thursday and Friday with the flirtatious Gemini Moon visiting your 7th House of Partners. Striking up conversations with new people or seeking more mental stimulation in your current relationship is high on your agenda. Yet early on Saturday morning, a lunar shift into nurturing Cancer and your 8th House of Intimacy raises the stakes in romance as emotions overflow and flood the bounds of reason. Give your love without any expectations; you may be pleasantly surprised by what you receive in return.

Capricorn Horoscope
Capricorn Horoscope (Dec 22 – Jan 19)

This weekend could mark a significant turning point in your relationship life. The loyal Cancer Moon enters your 7th House of Partners on Saturday morning and then runs into a buzz of planetary activity throughout the day. Encountering difficult lunar alignments with boisterous Jupiter, suspicious Pluto and rebellious Uranus can bring intimate issues to a head. Yet a breakthrough connection is a potential positive outcome of these wild times if you can keep your wits about you and your heart wide open.

Aquarius Horoscope
Aquarius Horoscope (Jan 20 – Feb 18)

A lunar transit of your 5th House of Romance adds extra pleasure to your personal life from Wednesday through Friday night. Easygoing people and a playful attitude keep encounters light and breezy. But the same teasing comments that get laughs then could trigger less desirable responses on Saturday after the Moon moves into overprotective Cancer. It’s an edgy weekend when even the most innocent jokes are capable of provoking extreme emotional reactions. Tread lightly when exploring unknown territory on Sunday or surprises are bound to catch you off guard.

Pisces Horoscope
Pisces Horoscope (Feb 19 – Mar 20)

The Moon ambles into caring Cancer and your 5th House of Romance early on Saturday morning, putting you in the mood for a cozy weekend hanging out in the company of those you love. However, this normally favorable transit is rocked by some intense planetary activity, including some lunar connections with unruly Uranus and defiant Pluto which can alter plans and rattle moods. Still, you can grab attention in surprising ways if you’re willing to take chances with your appearance and your attitude.

Your I Ching Hexagram for February 12th is 39: Temporary Obstacles

39: Temporary Obstacles

Tuesday, Feb 12th, 2013

Have temporary obstacles been blocking your way? In the course of trying to reach a goal or to fulfill a personal ambition, obstructions inevitably present themselves. This is not always a bad thing. Obstacles, difficulties and even setbacks that are eventually overcome often turn into assets. Without irritating grains of sand, oysters would never make pearls.

The obstacles pointed to here are not permanent, yet they are in the way. As when a large boulder falls in the road, the best course of action is usually to go around it, rather than to try to move it out of the way. Temporary obstacles must be seen for what they are — temporary — and should not be allowed to take on too much significance.

A positive aspect of even the most difficult obstacle is that it may cause a person to turn inward, and gain greater depth and character. While the ignorant bemoan their fate and seek to blame their problems on others, the wise seek the cause of the problem within themselves. Through this type of introspection, obstacles become a means for personal growth and self-discovery.

Without air resistance, no plane would ever fly.

If you are facing temporary obstacles, try not to be overly concerned. Obstacles are a part of achieving every goal and furthering every undertaking. Setbacks and reverses can affect morale, but keeping up your self-confidence in the face of challenges is part of a successful solution to many of life’s problems. Obstacles of short duration are best handled with a yielding attitude. Go around the rock, don’t put your shoulder to it.

Your I Ching Hexagram for February 11th is 53: A Steady Pace

53: A Steady Pace

Monday, Feb 11th, 2013

Like an ancient old-growth forest — where the subtle play of light, texture and shadows is the product of a process measured in centuries and inches — most things of lasting value develop gradually, at their own pace. The ability to learn from experience — one of humanity’s greatest capacities — implies constant yet gradual progress. The combination of stillness within and determination without are the essence of this dynamic. Good things sometimes sprout quickly; the truly delightful take much longer.

The principle of gradual development applies also to human relationships. For love and marriage or any important partnership to endure, progress must be slow but steady: slow enough to allow for the bonds to knit properly; steady enough to keep moving in the right direction.

You can’t expect to have everything all at once. Development must be allowed to take its proper course and allotted time; events must neither be rushed nor manipulated, but allowed to unfold naturally. In this way, you will come to enjoy long-lasting relationships and achieve success.

Your I Ching Hexagram for Feb. 10th is 62: Attention to Detail

62: Attention to Detail

Sunday, Feb 10th, 2013

Ambitious undertakings are not in order now, but attention to small matters brings progress. Such is the case of a person whose resources are meager, but who, through modesty and perseverance, rises to accomplish great things.

The key to success when small potential influences the larger scene is to avoid pretentious ambitions and grandiose goals. The power of the small is served by slow and steady advancement, and succeeds through an honest awareness of its own limitations, without reservation.

Modesty stemming from recognizing your limitations is a fine quality, but it can be seen as weakness if it is not accompanied by conscientiousness. It is important to understand the demands of your situation, and not to expect success in big things right now. The wise person recognizes the nature of the time. So, know your own role, carefully attend to details and act with humility, and you can achieve your goal even with few resources.

Today’s I Ching Hexagram for Feb. 6th is 7: Discipline

7: Discipline

Wednesday, Feb 6th, 2013

The most successful general is not the one that triumphs in battle, but the one who is able, through strength of a resolute discipline and the personal power that results from that, to achieve victory without spilling blood. This is why for the effective leadership of any organization the key virtues are clarity, decisiveness and conscientiousness. The most effective team or partnership marches with a single purpose — a dedication to a common goal that is held dear by all. Otherwise, even with an excess of external discipline, unpopular wars are seldom winnable.

Let power be held in check by the acceptance of a common discipline, and submission to a higher authority. Look to the common good. When life is in balance, evil impulses are checked by human decency; parents die before their children; leaders lead and followers follow. If you hold or aspire to a position of leadership, remember that the true leader speaks to and captures the hearts of the people and articulates a clear, simple vision that unites them as a team.

In the realm of government, the relationship between the army and state is critical. Only when the state is economically prosperous can the army be strong. Only when the army is disciplined can the state be protected from disruptive outside forces. For this balance to be preserved, government must be steady, and mild toward its own people. When balancing strong complementary forces, modesty and generosity at the center can be a magnetic force that keeps relationships intact. Coordination of all elements is essential for success at this time.

Today’s I Ching Hexagram is Jan. 23rd is 28: Excessive Pressure

28: Excessive Pressure

Wednesday, Jan 23rd, 2013

Something is out of balance. This hexagram points to some pressure that is threatening stability and needs correcting. But if a dam is about to burst, moving out of the way is the first priority.

When a person in a sagging mine shaft feels the earth begin to tremble, it is time for quick, instinctive action and nimble footwork. At a time like this, only extraordinary measures will work. When the roof is collapsing, run first, choose your destination later.

Extraordinary times bring out the best and worst in people. Natural disasters bring with them stories of great heroism — but also looting and rioting. When the pressure is on, powerful moments present opportunities to make positive gains. Everything is in a state of flux. One can either move towards positive change and improvement or towards stagnation.

This may be the moment you’ve been waiting for. Although a current challenge may seem to be more than you can handle, remember that a flood reaches its high-water mark for only a few brief moments, and then begins to subside. Action must be taken now to ensure opportunities for success later on. You will never discover the true extent of your own abilities until you, at least once in your life, dive into a crisis with complete abandon, dedicating every ounce of your energy, every fiber of your being, to the cause at hand.

Dare to win.

Your I Ching Hexagram for January 13 is 36: Darkening of the Light

36: Darkening of the Light

Sunday, Jan 13th, 2013

When light becomes dim, it may be wise to become invisible. The image is of fresh darkness, the period after the sun has gone down or the fire has gone out. There is still much activity left over from the light of day, while movements in the outer world become more dangerous. Even the smallest sound, the faintest glow of light, can attract unwanted attention.

When the darkness of stupidity reigns, it is best that your own brilliance stay ‘hidden under a bushel basket.’ That is, your thoughts and efforts should be quiet and self-contained, and protected, as much as possible, from disruptive influences.

Whatever you do, don’t let yourself be swept along on the current of conventional wisdom when dangerous uncertainties exist. Try not to become too depressed or anxious; this period will pass. Just endure it for now and inwardly preserve your self-confidence, while outwardly remaining cooperative and flexible. The time to assert yourself will come. Avoid looking too far ahead if you have not yet achieved your goals. That only feeds regret and longing, which can eat away at your inner resources.

Be cautious and reserved. Control yourself. Do not needlessly awaken dormant forces of opposition. During dark, unsettled periods, it is best to step gingerly around the sleeping dogs.
