Let’s Talk Witch – More on the Mojo

Now hang with me, this is the first time I have tried to continue on with a topic from the previous day. So if I repeat a little bit, have patience I will eventually get to something new, lol! I believe we had just got through fixing Mojo Bags now we are ready to give it life and feed it.

Once you’ve determined what you’re going to put inside the bag, you are ready to fix it.  There are many acceptable methods to do this.  The most common ways to fix a bag involve using smoke from a candle, or incense, or breathing on the bag to breathe life into it. A prayer may be said while doing this, from the heart or from specific instructions.

After the ingredients have been added and the bag fixed, it must be fed, as it is now a spiritual item. Feeding can be done with alcohol like whiskey or vodka, perfume, a special oil blend specifically created for the bag, any oil blend that serves your purpose or water.

When the mojo bag is completed and alive with spirit, it can now work. To have the best success, most mojo bags should be carried on your person and out of sight. In some cases a bag may be worn as a necklace, though under the clothes, but more common ways to carry them include a pants pocket, a woman’s bra, or being pinned on the inside of clothing at the waist. A bag should always remain hidden and unknown to everyone, and it is extremely bad for another person, if they discover your mojo bag, to touch it. In most cases, this will result in the bag having to be remade.

These steps can be taken to create any type of mojo bag you would like, for any purpose. Simply choose the correct color and magickal components, fix the bag, and use a corresponding liquid to feed it.

How to Feed a Mojo Bag

Your mojo bag should be fed weekly, with at least one drop of liquid, and no more than five drops.  Mojo bags are usually fed with an uneven number of drops, so one, three, and five drops are standard. The smaller the bag, the less drops you should use.

How Mojo Bags Get Ruined

There are several ways a mojo bag’s magic can be broken.  Always take care of your mojo bag and try to prevent it from being broken, but if your bag is broken, just dispose of it and make a new one. Here are a few ways mojo bags can lose their powers.

If someone sees your bag or touches it, the power maybe broken. If a stranger or an enemy sees or touches your bag, it’s definitely history so you should dispose of it quickly. If an innocent being sees or touches your bag, like your child or spouse, your bag is probably okay. Feed your bag with a bit of oil and pray over it to recharge it.

To prevent your bag from being seen and touched, always keep it concealed. When you are not wearing your bag, keep it in a very well hidden and secure location. If you bag is a year or more old, you probably need a new one. In this case, you can undo the bag and dispose of its contents. Larger items like crystals or charms can be cleansed and set aside to go into the new bag. A good time to remake your mojo bag is at any Full Moon or Sabbat.

Also if your bag gets wet, the power it once contained is now gone.

Let’s Talk Witch – Mojo Bags, What Are They & How To Make One

Witchy Comments & Graphics

What is a Mojo Bag & How to Make One for Any Purpose

A mojo bag is an amulet, generally small and made of flannel though they can be larger and made of other materials, in which magical objects are combined in order to manifest intent.  It is a physical representation of a spell.

Other names include conjure hand or conjure bag, gris-gris, jomo, lucky bag, mojo hand or simply hand, trick bag, toby, prayer in a bag, root bag, and wanga or oanga bag. Different names are popular in different areas of the world and with different people but these things are all basically the same.

How to Make a Mojo Bag for any Purpose

The first thing to do when you want to make a mojo bag is to determine your intent.  Once you know where you want to go, creating the bag is very simple.

While making every mojo bag out of red flannel is common in some parts, many people prefer to choose a color which corresponds with their intent and by doing so, strengthening their spell.  You’ll need to decide if you want to stick with traditional red flannel or employ color magick.

Nearly all mojo bags are made of flannel, though sometimes other materials are used such as leather or silk, depending on the desires and intentions of the maker. Any material will work, your intent is always going to be the key in making a successful bag, but flannel is generally preferred.

After creating your bag in the color and material of your choosing, you’ll want to fill it with magickal objects. Items commonly placed in mojo bags include herbs, crystals and gemstones and papers. Really anything can be included as long as it strengthens your work.

Some people will always include the same number of items in any bag they make, others will always include an odd number of items in their bags; while still others will just add whatever they believe will work together and don’t pay attention to the number of items they use. Seven is traditionally a magickal number, so if you have no preference you can start using seven as your base point.

Once you’ve determined what you’re going to put inside the bag, you are ready to fix it. There are many acceptable methods to do this.

Tomorrow, we will discuss items to put in your mojo bag, breathing life into it and feeding it. Yes, no typo, feeding your mojo bag! Who knew?

il_fullxfull_238700848

 A Spell to Create Prosperity

This spell can be used for any kind of prosperity, but it works best for the prosperity of inner peace, the source of all true prosperity. Sage is a good herb for getting rid of negativity and cinnamon is excellent for boosting your energy and creativity.

Tools:

Sprig of sage

A green candle

Empty bowl

Pinch of cinnamon

When: During the new moon

On the night of the new moon, put the green candle in the empty bowl with the sage. Light them both. As you sprinkle cinnamon into the flame, say: “I embrace prosperity and inner peace.”

Repeat these words and keep sprinkling cinnamon into the flame until the cinnamon is gone. Let the candle and the sage burn down, then bury them in your garden or yard. If you do this during the winter, you can bury the remains in the dirt of an indoor plant.

Items You Will Need:

  • One charcoal disk in a fireproof dish
  • Matches
  • Dried juniper berries
  • One teaspoon of honey
  • One cream pillar candle
  • One  spool of red cotton thread
  • One red velvet drawstring pouch
  • One small white pebble
  • One bunch of dried white sage

Best Time To Cast:

  • Weave this charm on the sixth night after a new moon, when the moon is visible in the night sky

The Spell:

  1. Cast a circle around your work area.
  2. Light the charcoal disk and sprinkle on the juniper berries
  3. Smear honey onto the top of the candle, avoiding the wick. Light the candle saying: “Hear me, I stand between the light and the dark, between a high place and a low place, and none that inhabit these places may gain way or cross the luck I seal within.
  4. Measure the circumference of your right wrist with the thread. Knot it into a “bracelet” and place it in the pouch.
  5. Cense the stone in juniper smoke, and place it in the pouch. Put three sage leaves in the pouch. Light the remaining sage with the candle and allow it to smolder.
  6. Using sage smoke, cense the mojo bag, saying: “All within is pure and safe, that within is that without, that without is that within, let the charm begin.”
  7. Seal the bag immediately.

A protective home mojo from the Hoodoo Tradition

Mojos are small bags containing an odd number of symbols (one to thirteen) associated with particular energies. Protective mojos are good if you live in a high-crime or  lonely area, or you have a difficult ex-partner who seeks constant access to your home.

Items You Will Need:

A small drawstring bag of red flannel (the traditional mojo fabric) or brown material ( suitable for domestic protection); a piece of angelica root or  some dried angelica (available from herbal stores); some salt and pepper; waxed paper (the kind used in cake making); some patchouli oil or brandy.

Timing.

After dark.

The Spell:

  • Place the angelica root directly into the bag or twist some dried angelica in a piece of waxed paper and put it in.
  • Twist some salt in a piece of waxed paper and add it to the bag.
  • Twist some pepper in a piece of waxed paper and add it to the bag.
  • Add a few drops of the patchouli oil or brandy to the bag.
  • Draw the string tight and say: “May protection last till one (or two) moons are pasted.”
  • Keep the bag somewhere near the front door, out of sight. (Mojos lose their power if seen.)
