The Witches Magick for October 8th – Empowerment Spell

goth114

Empowerment Spell

To increase power and use it wisely

Optional extras:

Orange candle

High John the Conqueror oil

Notes: The best time to do this spell is at midnight on a full moon, but if you don’t want to stay up that late, you can work it at any point on the full moon night or on a Sabbat.

Since you are asking to draw in power, be sure you are firmly grounded and centered before casting this spell and that the space you are working in is protected. Unlike some of the spells in this book where it makes little difference whether or not you start by casting a formal circle, in this case I would recommend you do so. This is not a spell to be cast lightly.

Cast your circle, ask for help from the four quarters, invoke the triple goddess of your choice (I like either Hecate or Brigid, but any triple goddess [maiden/mother/ crone] will work), then anoint the candle if using the High John oil. Be sure you are centered before reciting the spell.

As my craft I work to hone
At this deep and sacred hour
I call on Maiden, Mother, Crone
To send me wisdom, strength and power

Lend me power for my spells
Power for work and power for play
Send wisdom so I’ll use it well
Growing in power every day.

Good Blessed Tuesday Morning, my dear family, friends & visitors!

Great Goddess, Great God

I greet you at the start of a new day

And thank you for the potential that this day holds

Please send me the best day possible

Help me to feel my best

So I might do my best for myself and for others

Smile upon me as I walk my Path

And guide me so I might walk with wisdom and grace

And shine your light upon the world

As the Sun rises

Fill me with energy and joy

Bless me with Your Presence

And watch ove me and those that I love

So Mote It Be

The Witches Spell for Oct. 7th – Deity Assistance Spell

goth114

 Deity Assistance Spell

Whatever your problem is, there’s a deity who can help. This spell invokes divine assistance through burning incense. As the smoke rises, it carries your request into the heavens.

Tools:

A picture, figurine, or other image of your chosen deity
Incense
An incense burner
Matches or a lighter
A slip of paper
A pen or pencil

When: Depends on your intentions

Determine which deity is best suited to help you with your problem. The tables in Chapter 1 list some well-known deities from around the world and the areas they govern. Once you’ve decided which deity to call upon, find an image/ figurine of that god or goddess and display it on your altar.

Select an incense that corresponds to your intentions. Fit the incense into its burner and light it. Write your request on the slip of paper, fold it three times, and lay it at the feet of the deity. Envision your request floating up to the heavens, carried on the incense smoke to your chosen god or goddess.

Quiet your mind and listen for an answer or guidance. (Note: The answer may not come immediately— it could take a few days— so don’t grow impatient.) Allow the incense to burn down completely. Thank the deity for helping you and trust that aid will come at the appropriate time.

Let’s Talk Witch – Creating Your Own Spells

Let’s Talk Witch – Creating Your Own Spells

People who are new to magick often ask if it’s okay for them to create their own spells. The answer is a resounding yes. Think of it this way: someone, somewhere had to come up with the idea for the first spell, and the hundreds of thousands of spells after that. Personally created spells are often considered a very important step in the witch’s training and adeptness.

Once you’ve become familiar with casting spells and adapting existing spells for your individual purposes, you’re ready to design your own, original spells from scratch. Other than your fundamental knowledge of magick, you no longer have a construct to work from. You must devise all the actions, symbols, timing, wording, and other components of the spell yourself—that’s what makes creating original spells so exciting. It’s like being the composer of a piece of music and the performer as well.

The components you include in a spell should support, strengthen, balance, and harmonize with one another. They should also be items you feel comfortable using. Some witches enjoy working with flowers, herbs, and other botanicals. Others have a fondness for gemstones and crystals. No one type of ingredient is inherently better than another, but your feelings will certainly influence a spell’s outcome. Keep your objective in mind at all times as you select ingredients. For instance, if you are making a love talisman, you might want to include pairs of ingredients: two rose petals, two pieces of rose quartz, etc. Consider the symbolism of each component and how well it aligns with your intention. A ring is a powerful symbol to put in a love talisman; a coin clearly symbolizes an intention to attract wealth.

Choosing your own ingredients, rather than following a prescribed formula, allows you to fine-tune a spell to your specific needs. Let’s say you’re doing a prosperity spell to help you

(1) attract money and

(2) hold on to it.

To achieve both objectives, you could combine a piece of aventurine with a piece of hematite. Once you understand the basic natures and symbolism of various components, you can mix and match them to create exactly the right combination of energies.

  • mugwort

Cover with a lid, and boil for 13 minutes.

Lift the lid of the cauldron and deeply inhale the vapors of the bubbling brew 3 times.

Take a normal breath of air, and then once again deeply inhale the vapors 3 times.

Repeat this for 3 minutes, and if you have allowed yourself to properly enter a psychic state, you may begin to receive prophetic visions, either in the form of pictures or symbols, or perhaps in a combination of the two.

Seven Day Desire Spell

Seven Day Desire Spell

You need:

Black seven day candle
Water
Saucer
Paper

Fill your saucer slightly with some water. On a piece of paper write the things you most desire, (like love, money, a job). Fold that up and put it on the saucer (yes, in the water) Now put your seven day candle on top of the paper and light it.

Each night before you go to sleep visualize your desires being obtained.

On the seventh day, snuff out the candle and dispose of it by getting it away from your property.

This spell can be customized by using different colored candles, pink or red for love, purple for spirituality, and so on. The black candle is used for “breaking through” those obstacles that are preventing you from your desires.

Moon Spell

Moon Spell

Materials:

  • A small globe of crystal or clear glass.

Initial Preparation:

The first time you starts this spell and every time you wish to use it for a new special purpose, you have to clear and consecrate the globe of crystal/glass by holding it up to the light of the Full Moon, so that the lunar image is caught therein.

Monthly:

After this has been performed, the globe may be used as a charm to procure the secret wish of the owner.  On the night of each New Moon, hold the sphere in the left palm, by candlelight, gaze upon it, and chant:

Crescent be full

and crystal fill:

Thus my eye and

thus my will:

Fiat Voluntus Abdita!

Fiat Voluntus Abdita!!

Fiat Voluntus Abdita!!!

The globe should then be kept in a small bag of leather inscribed with figures of the Moon’s phases, and worn about the neck during those days and nights between the crescent and the full.  While it is not being worn, the globe should be wrapped in a black cloth and hidden away.

Today’s Tarot Card for Friday, Oct. 4th is The Sun

The Sun

Friday, Oct 4th, 2013

What has traditionally been known as the Sun card is about the self — who you are and how you cultivate your personality and character. The earth revolves around the sun to make up one year of a person’s life, a fact we celebrate on our birthday.

The Sun card could also be titled “Back to Eden.” The Sun’s radiance is where one’s original nature or unconditioned Being can be encountered in health and safety. The limitations of time and space are stripped away; the soul is refreshed and temporarily protected from the chaos outside the garden walls.

Under the light of the Sun, Life reclaims its primordial goodness, truth and beauty. If one person is shown on this card, it is usually signifying a human incarnation of the Divine. When two humans are shown, the image is portraying a resolution of the tension between opposites at all levels. It’s as if this card is saying “You can do no wrong — it’s all to the good!”

The Witches Spell for Oct. 4th – So Much to Do, So Little Time

goth114

The Witches Spell for October 4th

So Much to Do, So Little Time

No matter how hard you work, you never seem to get caught up. If stress and frustration are getting you down, this spell offers a welcome respite from workplace demands.

Tools:

Lavender incense
An incense burner
A light blue candle
A candleholder
Matches or a lighter
A bathtub
Essential oil of vanilla
4 good-sized chunks of amethyst

When: Any time

Cast a Circle around your bathroom. Fit the incense and candle into their respective holders, then light both. Fill the bathtub with pleasantly hot water. Add a little essential oil of vanilla to the bathwater.

Wash the amethysts with mild soap and water, then set one on each corner of the bathtub. Climb into the tub and make yourself comfy. Feel the amethysts drawing off your stress and neutralizing it. Feel your frustrations and anxieties dissolving into the bathwater. The trick is not to think about anything outside the walls of the bathroom.

When you worry about the past or future, you block receptivity to new ideas and guidance that could help you resolve problems. If a troublesome thought pops into your mind, send it into the water or give it to the amethysts. Soak for as long as you like until you feel calm, rested, and confident that all is well.

When your peace of mind is restored, get out of the tub. As the water drains away, visualize your cares flowing away with it. Pick up the amethysts and thank them. Then wash them with clean water (not the bathwater) and mild soap and pat them dry. Extinguish the candle and incense, or allow them to burn down in a safe place. Open the Circle and emerge renewed.

The Witches Spell for October 3rd – “Spell for Traveling During The Waning Moon”

magick21

A Spell for Traveling During the Waning Moon

The waning moon is a time of decrease, so you need a bit of a boost when traveling under this moon phase. The white flower you use in this spell should be broken off just below the bud, so the petals float on the surface of the water. Any kind of white flower can be used.

Tools:

A white candle

A gold candle

White flower in a bowl of water

When: As needed, or twenty-four hours before your departure

As you light the candles, imagine that any negativity associated with your trip is absorbed by the flower. Then say aloud:

As time does tell,
My journey goes well.
So mote it be.

Daily Feng Shui News for Sept. 30 –

Let’s get dirty! It’s ‘National Mud Pack Day’ and I want to share a ‘secret’ recipe for making a facial mud pack at home. You’ll need three teaspoons of Fuller’s earth, two teaspoons of curd yogurt, a half-teaspoon of almond oil and three drops of rose water. Put the curd in a bowl and gradually stir in the Fuller’s earth. Pour the almond oil and rose water on top and mix all ingredients until they form a paste. Apply this mud mask to your face, wait twenty minutes and rinse it off with cool water. Mud puddles might make you feel like a kid again, but this all-natural facial pack will have you looking like one!

Will Paganism Survive Beyond Us? We Must Pay It Forward.

Will Paganism Survive Beyond Us? We Must Pay It Forward.

Author: Beth Owl’s Daughter

What you leave behind is not what is engraved in stone monuments, but what is woven into the lives of others. – Pericles

Throughout my life, I have been a passionate spiritual seeker. In fact, I might have been born with an extra “God gene.” When I was school age, I would have given almost anything to be able to answer what I felt was my calling – to be an ordained minister. But at that time, such a thing did not exist for girls in the Episcopal Church (my childhood religion) .

After years of exploring many religions and paths to the Divine, (and having no inkling that there were actual living, practicing Druids!) , I declared that I was a “Shamanic Druidic pantheist mystic with Hindu and Buddhist overtones.” And that was pretty much that. Or so it seemed.

As the years passed, however, I gradually discovered that there were thousands, maybe millions, of others on a similar path. And happily, they had a much easier name to call themselves (and, I might note, one that is far easier to fill in, in the small space allotted on medical forms) .

We are “Pagans.” It’s a broad term, so, as I am using it here, it includes Wiccans, Heathens, Witches, Druids, Goddess worshipers, Hellenic devotees, Kemetic practitioners, and so on.

But there are some real challenges that we face as Pagans (surprise!) . The obvious, dramatic one has to do with the many ignorant people who consider us to be evil, in league with the Devil (their creation, not ours) , or, at best, damned for eternity.

Yet there are other, more irksome issues we face. Ours is a new religion. In some cases, we are trying to reconstruct it from antiquity. Much of our liturgy is founded on creative conjecture, old remnants and historic bits and pieces, and wisdom from a long ago world that is nearly alien to the one in which we now live. By and large, we do not enjoy the unbroken, ever-evolving lineage of most other religious paths.

Of necessity, obviously, we are finding ways to address the life passages and events that spiritual people need to deal with – birth, marriage, disputes, illness, divorce, death and so on. But many Pagan groups find themselves having to make it up as they go along, probably knowing they are often re-inventing the wheel. And for others of us, even if we have created structures of initiation and scholarship within our tradition, recognition, respect and cooperation from the mainstream is still in short supply.

Furthermore, we are extremely lucky if our Circles and Groves have people who are skilled counselors, or inspiring ritualists, or pragmatic, proactive leaders. To grow and mature, and to survive beyond only a generation or two, it seems to me that we are going to need our people to have actual training in such things.

Imagine if we had leaders who had learned pastoral guidance skills specific to Pagan beliefs. What if our scholars and facilitators trained in the history and development of human interaction with the natural world and its ecosystems, directly from an Earth-based spirituality point of view?

Wouldn’t it be great if we had our own institutions of higher learning that could train our Priests, Priestesses, Bards, and Leaders to competently, creatively facilitate our devotions in harmony with our tradition’s values, and guide us across the thresholds of our life’s journeys, and speak knowledgeably to the media, and nurture our relationships with other spiritual groups?

But then, I offer another question…

Is modern Paganism sustainable?

Our traditions are only now beginning to be tested beyond the lifetimes of the original founders and those directly taught by them. With a wildly diverse number of beliefs, Gods and Goddesses, sacred texts and forms, will our practices have relevance for those born in a completely different context than the elders who established them?

Will modern Paganism grow, deepen and flourish for many generations as a strong, meaningful alternative to the major players now dominating the world’s religions? Or will it simply end up being a footnote to our turbulent historical milieu?

I believe that our ability to survive and thrive as a viable spiritual path for the future depends in large measure on whether we have wise, competent, skilled and well-trained leaders, priests and priestesses.

We need a dedicated clergy that is recognizable, both from within the many traditions of Paganism, as well as to mainstream government and religious institutions. We need highly professional, accomplished, seasoned scholars, leaders, teachers, and chaplains who have been educated at the graduate level – in a Pagan learning environment, by Pagans, and for Pagans.

Of course, many of our traditions are building their own internal systems for training future leaders, and, certainly, such programs are important in ensuring the endurance of their particular customs.

But please — let us not repeat the insularity of Christianity’s denominational systems, which have contributed to centuries of misunderstanding and bloodshed.

Instead, it seems to me that an Earth-based spirituality should see the obvious advantage of the cross-pollination of ideas and practices for its budding Priests and Priestesses. Instead of cultivating a monoculture within each tradition, I think we should encourage diversity and exploration.

Consider how much richer our own traditions could become if, say, our Reclaiming tradition Priestesses and Heathen godhis were also fluent in “Dark Green Religion, ” experienced in Voudon, animism and Druid rituals, and formally trained as grief counselors and dispute mediators.

But how can this be accomplished?

Cherry Hill Seminary is the world’s first and only graduate-level education for Pagans of all traditions. Cherry Hill Seminary offers online distance-learning classes, regional workshops and intensive retreats in religious studies and topics at a professional and graduate level. It is where Pagans from all walks can be nurtured and taught the topics so vital to a sustainable Pagan ministry. We offer courses within a degree program, and also on an ad hoc, elective basis.

Because it is not a “bricks and mortar” university, its students are from all over the United States, as well as other English-speaking countries. This means that as long as they have Internet access, qualified individuals can receive a quality higher education not available anywhere else.

Many of Cherry Hill’s students are already accomplished professionals who are ready to deepen their Pagan practice. They seek both the theory and practical skills that will make them more effective in their communities, within the context of their own traditions.

But Cherry Hill Seminary, like all other institutions of higher learning, needs more than student tuition to support its existence.

It needs you and me.

If you believe, as I do, that the time has come for the next generation of Gaia-loving men and women to have access to higher education that honors their beliefs; that teaches them the critical, sometimes complex skills for serving their communities; that hones them into outstanding, creative leaders and scholars, please become a part of history. We need your donations.

Your gift – large or small – will change lives now, today, by ensuring that students who desire this training have it available at an affordable price.

But please know also that your gift will ultimately help shape the legacy of today’s Paganism. Help us build the first living, breathing Pagan-oriented seminary in modern times.

This is an opportunity for weaving enormously important money magic. You can make a gift for our future generations by supporting their mission.

Please pay it forward.

Blessed be.

Your Daily Horoscopes for Wednesday, Sept. 25th

We may feel restless today yet we can’t isolate the cause of our emotional unease. We want to have a variety of choices and resist settling on any single option now that the Moon is visiting changeable Gemini. Meanwhile, romantic Venus forms a creative aspect with weird Uranus, luring our desires out of the traditional box. Nevertheless, it’s nearly impossible to know what’s real because the Sun aspects otherworldly Neptune later this evening.

Aries Horoscope

(Mar 21 – Apr 19)

Although the dynamics between you and a close friend may be out of kilter, you can still talk yourself into thinking that everything’s just fine. Don’t lose track of your priorities if social pressures begin to unravel your plans. Focusing on what you need to do for your job is smarter than having to clean up a mess because you were distracted by personal relationship issues. Establishing clear priorities early in the day helps you avoid a crisis later on. Simply acknowledging another person’s feelings may be enough alleviate the tension.

Taurus Horoscope

(Apr 20 – May 20)

You might believe that you’re simply pursuing love today, but you could still get more than you bargain for if you’re too eager in your approach. Your key planet Venus is visiting your 7th House of Partners and her connection with rebellious Uranus pulls you into a complicated entanglement. You can’t trust your intuition now because you’re overly attached to your dreams. Thankfully, you can make a good decision by sticking to the facts when deciding your next move.

Gemini Horoscope

(May 21 – Jun 20)

Satisfaction is elusive now because the Moon’s current visit to your sign might tempt you to find other pastures that look greener than yours. Nevertheless, you are committed to meeting your obligations today so you won’t likely escape on a whim. Appreciate the present moment and try to be grateful for whatever you have. Taking a mature approach to relationships could be enough to put your day back on track and calm your restless heart.

Cancer Horoscope

(Jun 21 – Jul 22)

If a friend or associate pushes back against your ideas today, you may be tempted to retreat emotionally. Even if you are secure in the relationship, your fear of rejection could motivate you to avoid the discussion entirely. You believe it’s easier to ignore your gut than to express whatever is in your heart — but it’s not. To the contrary, it’s healthier to share your concerns openly and allow the other person a chance to respond. You might be pleasantly surprised if you’re willing to take a risk.

Leo Horoscope

(Jul 23 – Aug 22)

Feeling a bit insecure today can lead to tricky relationship dynamics, especially if you believe that one of your friends or associates hasn’t been honest with you. In fact, people could be trying to make something appear better than it really is. Normally, you would be too clever for anyone to get away with misleading you, but now it’s also possible for your fears — rather than someone else’s actions — to amplify your anxiety. Double check the facts before jumping to any false conclusions.

Virgo Horoscope

(Aug 23 – Sep 22)

You might not know how to make sense out of your feelings today because you are temporarily losing your ability to remain logical while analyzing your options. Even if you try to separate fact from fiction, you’re more likely to accept whatever you are told now, setting you up for later disappointment. Keep in mind that choices colored by your subjective preferences will probably lead you astray. Paring back your options simplifies the decision-making process.

Libra Horoscope

(Sep 23 – Oct 22)

Your vivid imagination is working overtime today and you’re preoccupied by a fantasy instead of what’s actually going on. You are being pulled in two different directions now, so you must be careful about choosing dreams over reality. Confusion about your own needs can lead to an unwise choice, so put off important decisions for a day or two until your clarity returns. In the meantime, practicing meditation helps you get in touch with your higher self.

Scorpio Horoscope

(Oct 23 – Nov 21)

Trying to recall a childhood experience is perplexing today because you might not be able to remember enough of the facts to know if it truly occurred or not. Either way, you realize now that there probably is another side to the story that you haven’t thought about. Take plenty of time and fill in the details. However, your desire for the truth may turn into an obsession, so it’s wise to know when to bring your thoughts back to the present and stop trying to rewrite your past.

Sagittarius Horoscope

(Nov 22 – Dec 21)

Taking charge at home or in your community is where you shine today, but your assumption of authority could also create an awkward situation. Although you think you know what’s best for everyone else, people might disagree with your current strategy. Unfortunately, your sound logic won’t help to convince anyone that you are right. You may have to just let your friends and associates go off on their own to discover what’s true by themselves. Don’t let others rain on your parade.

Capricorn Horoscope

(Dec 22 – Jan 19)

You may be distracted now even if you’re usually quite astute when dealing with financial matters. If you see something that you immediately want to buy, it’s best to wait a few days before actually finalizing the purchase. Although you might believe that you deserve a reward for all of your hard work, impulsive spending isn’t a smart idea. Giving yourself the gift of personal time could make the payoff even better than you expect.

Aquarius Horoscope

(Jan 20 – Feb 18)

You’re confident that you’re being absolutely clear about your romantic intentions today, yet someone can totally misunderstand what you’re saying. Complications may arise if your repressed feelings are strong enough to color how you deliver your message. Keep asking for feedback along the way to ensure that your words convey exactly what you mean. Let your heart speak for itself.

Pisces Horoscope

(Feb 19 – Mar 20)

Your eagerness leads you to anticipate what someone wants from you now, but too much analysis can get in the way. Unfortunately, you’re likely to jump to the wrong conclusions without checking out your assumptions. Don’t stress if you have trouble meeting other people’s expectations today, since they probably have unrealistic hopes, anyway. Instead of worrying about anyone else, just do the best work you can and then move on. Believe in yourself; there’s no need to compromise when it comes to your integrity.
