Offerings: Sea salt. Face some emotion that seems overwhelming to you.

Invocation to Neptune

Great Bull from the Sea
Crashing against the rocks
Master of the waves and depths
Foaming horses champing wild
Break against the yielding shore
And you, Lord of bitter brine,
Sink not our ships as they make their way
From safe harbor to safe harbor.
Show us the depths of our own souls
As you know the depths of the ocean itself,
And give us safe passage there as well.
Save us from the whirlpool and the drowning tides,
Save us from the circling predators
That would drag us to the bottom.
Earth-shaker, loudest voice
In the world between heaven and underworld,
The voice that booms up from the depths
Of every water-borne soul.

Chant:
Earth-Shaker
Storm Maker
Lord of the Wave

(The compass is then passed from hand to hand, and each person in turn says, “Guide me in my navigations, Lord of the Unending Waters, and bring me safe home again.” The bowl of salt water is then passed hand to hand, and each splashes a bit onto their heads. The rest is poured out as a libation.)

By those who raised us,
Yet we could not bring ourselves
Fully grown to the table
Until we had endured
The hardening flame.
Be kind to us, Lady!
As we go through life
Let us not be scorched
Or spared the fire
But bring us gently through
To be our final selves.

Chant: Baker of the Loaf of Earth
We endure your fire

Come forth and join the rite of passage
That you may give up that which was before

Io Dionysos!
Fair-Flowering, Reveller, Stormer,
Twice-Born, Lord of the Dance,
We who kneel before you pray
That you will be gentle with our
Little madnesses, and if you must
Drag us by the hair
To some new understanding,
Let it be done soon, and quickly,
For we would rather leap to doom
Than delay on the edge of the cliff.

Let two who have been chosen from inside or outside the community come forth and lay in the center of the circle, and perform the hieros gamos, whilst the others turn their backs and chant wordlessly. Behold the ship of Dionysos!
He sails into each safe harbor
Like a wind of change that cannot be denied.
Be warned, you who have become
Too comfortable, for he will cast up
Your safe life and show you
All the thorns you have pretended not to see.
Honor the god of the Lesser Madness
Lest the Greater Madness swallow you whole!
Taste his gift and wonder, that raw juice
Left to age can slowly ferment
And turn into that which gives delight
And terror both.
Tremble, for he is coming for you!
Whether you drink his gift
Or give it back to him,
It matters not; your days of
Blind unquestioning comfort
Are numbered none, and end today.

(Each comes forward and selects a cup, into which is poured equal parts water and wine. Each may taste of the wine, if they wish, and then pour out the rest as a libation, or they may pour it out entirely. As the pour the libation, each says, “Io Dionysos!” The ship remains in the sanctuary for three days, until Anthesteria is over.)

  • Water
  • Salt
  • Bowl
  • Garlic Salt (optional, see procedure)
  • Powered Rosemary (optional, see procedure)

Time: A bright, sunny morning

Procedure:

Start by mixing water and salt in a bowl. Add garlic salt and powdered rosemary if you need to clear out ghosts or spirits. Consecrate the mixture.

Begin at the main entrance of the house or apartment.  Sprinkle some of the consecrated water by dipping your fingers in it and making the sign of the pentagram. In a firm and commanding voice with all of your power behind it, say:

Evil shall leave but not enter.

Proceed counterclockwise through the house, repeating the procedure in every corner of each room, at all the windows, doors and mirrors. Don’t forget telephones, fax machines, televisions, modems, radios, computers that are connected to the Internet — any outside connection to your house. (It doesn’t hurt to do the mailbox after you finish with everything inside the house.)

Repeat the spell annually, or whenever you feel in need of it.

Color: Sea-blue
Element: Water
Altar: On a sea-blue cloth place a chalice of salt water, a skull, a dolphin, and a ship.
Offerings: Paper ships. Deal with fearful emotions that threaten to drown you.
Daily Meal: Fish or seafood.

Invocation to Llyr

We cross the sea at our own risk,
Be it the sea of water
Or the depths of our own
Internal tides of feeling.
We cross the sea at our own risk,
Knowing that the smooth expanse
Could at any moment become turbulent,
Degenerate into a vast
And draw us screaming into the darkness.
We cross the sea at our own risk,
Navigating our way with signs
And symbols that have nothing
To do with the vast expanse we see,
But are just numbers, spun out of
The mind’s vast abilities,
The world of air and sky,
And sometimes they fail us.
We cross the sea at our own risk,
But if we do not cross it
We will be separated forever
By those terrible watery chasms.
Ocean god, we  to  mercy;
Bear us up and do not let us drown
In any ocean, within or without.

Chant:
Born of water, cleansing, powerful, flowing, healing, we are…..

(Let one who has been chosen to do the work of the ritual come forward with the bowl of salt water, and each shall dip their hands into it and mark themselves on their heart chakras and their heads. Then the salt water shall be poured out as a libation.)

A Little Humor for Your Day – The Caffeinated Cross

The Caffeinated Cross

by Karl Lembke

The following ritual was found in a musty, dusty old fragment of parchment  lodged between the musty old pages of a musty, dusty old book in a musty, dusty  old library whose musty, dusty old dust hadn’t been disturbed by the presence of  man in many a musty, dusty old century. It took a great deal of effort to  translate the original writings. After months of effort and research in language  libraries, it was finally determined that the weird script was not some arcane,  forgotten language, but English, written by someone with a very bad case of  caffeine jitters.

Another fragment indicated that this was once part of a book, entitled “The Mystery of the StarBuck”.

THE CAFFEINATED CROSS

Stand, facing east, holding your coffee cup, filled with the mystical brew,  in your power hand, and assume a posture of wakeful alertness.

Bring your coffee cup to your forehead and intone:

“LATTE”

Lower your coffee cup to the vicinity of your navel:

“MOCHA”

Bring your coffee cup to your left shoulder:

“CAPPUCHINO”

Bring it across to your right shoulder:

“FRAPPUCHINO”

Clasp your coffee cup in both hands over your heart chakra:

“ARABICA, OH MAN!”

Extend your arms to the sides, and intone:

“BEFORE ME, MRS. OLSON”

“BEHIND ME, JUAN VALDEZ”

“AT MY RIGHT HAND, M J B”

“AT MY LEFT HAND, THE BROTHERS HILLS”

“FOR ABOUT ME SWIRLS THE COFFEE AROMA”

“WITHIN ME SINGS THE CAFFEINE HIGH”

Drink the coffee, in communion with the spirits of the Sacred Coffee Bean.  This last step may be usefully repeated as long as you like.

Daily Meal: Vegan. Serve maple sugar and maple syrup.

Invocation to the Green Man of the Sugar Maple

Hail, Green Man of the Winter!
Your secret blood rises
With the first teasing thaw,
Amid the chill winds and snow.
We drink of your blood,
And you give it willingly,
Sacrificing your life force
That we may have sweetness.
For happiness is no luxury,
It is our right and our delight.
You who bleed for our pleasure,
You who give us your innermost gift,
You who flame like a torch in the autumn
And warm our tongues in the spring,
Tree of beauty, tree of nourishment,
Fire of a hundred hills,
Wild turkey who gives of its flesh,
We hail you, sacred sugar maple,
Green Man of the Winter,
On this the time of your rising.

Chant:
I am flame on the hill
I am love on the tongue
I am words that flow forth
As the winter is sung.

(Each comes forward and plants a seed in the pot of soil, saying, “Hail Green Man of the Earth!” Water is poured onto the pot, and then the rest is poured out as a libation. Maple sugar is passed around and shared. Ring bell and dismiss.)

A Little Humor for Your Day – The Joy of Coffee

The Joy of Coffee

 by Anon

Caffeine is my shepherd; I shall not doze.

It maketh me to wake in green pastures: it leadeth me beyond the sleeping masses.

It restoreth my buzz: it leadeth me in the paths of consciousness for its name’s sake.

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of addiction, I will fear no Equal ™: for thou art with me; thy cream and thy sugar they comfort me.

Thou preparest a carafe before me in the prescence of Juan Valdez: thou anointest my day with pep; my mug runneth over.

Surely richness and taste shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the House of Maxwell forever.

The Witches Spell for January 9th – A Spell To Ward Off Evil

Witchy Cat Graphics & Comments

The Witches Spell for January 9th

Spell To Ward Off Evil

To ward off evil spirits or energy:

In a small jar, place sage, sandalwood, galangal and brimstone herbs. Mix well and sprinkle sea salt on top. Cut a three inch piece of red string, and tie one knot into it, and place it in the jar. Next, place three pins or nails in the jar and close it shut. Light a black candle and say:

“Pins that prick, herbs and string, to protect me now, my guardians do soar!”

Hid the jar in a dark place to ward off any evil.

Magickal Tidbits for Those Magickal Meals

Magickal Tidbits

The following comprises a few ideas  as to what foods and seasonings may be incorporated into meals to accomplish your goals. As you expand upon this list—and you will–just one note of caution: Some herbs are poisonous! With that in mind, please check a reliable herbal before incorporating any substance with which you’re unfamiliar.

Basil:  Season foods with this herb to loosen a partner’s hold on the money and force him or her to spend some on you.

Bread braid:  As it’s pulled apart and consumed, bread baked in this form can be used to separate lovers and break up relationships.

Cayenne pepper: Commonly known as the “hot food powder of the culinary world,” this little gem works wonders when it comes to getting your way. Be sure to apply it liberally.

Cinnamon:  Fold and mix this into recipes to induce and secure love. (Pies, rolls, cakes, cookies, and wine are good options.) Sprinkle it on top of beverages to obtain money.

Clove:  Long known for its powers of seduction, add ground or powdered clove to hot beverages and desserts to induce lust. (Once you’ve got the target in the position desired, add it to massage oil to really liven things up!)

Ginger: Add this to foods to increase sexual endurance and stamina.

Kava-Kava root:  This peppery-tasting substance induces a natural state of euphoria and relaxes the judgment centers, making them open to suggestion. The key, though, is that it must be fresh or freshly dried. And since it’s most effective when added to a butter or milk base, it’s the perfect addition to egg nog, cream sauces, or gravies.

Mint:  Incorporate to cool anger and force your target to chill out—even if you’re the one at fault.

Nuts:  Want to plant the seeds of your desires in the target’s head and make them think it was their idea? Just add any type of nut to the food you’re serving. Nuts may also be used to plant seeds of doubt.

Potato:  It a target is standing in the way of what you want, carve his or her initials in a potato, then cut it into small pieces before cooking and serving. (It’s also useful to add a dollar sign to the carving if your target is being stingy with money.)

Saltpeter:  A pinch of this added to any food will definitely keep any lover from straying. It’s important to note, however, that while your lover won’t stray, he or she won’t be able to perform with you either.

Sesame seeds;  Because these are sacred to both Ganesha and Hecate, they are excellent additions when used to remove obstacles and get what you want.

Living Life As The Witch – Stirring The Pot

Witchy Cat Graphics & Comments

Stirring The Pot

It never fails to amaze me just how many cooking related things we do in the kitchen that we simply take for granted. We don’t know where they came from or why we do them. There’s certainly no thought at all to their magickal significance. And yet, we know that most every action has at least one.

Take adding grains of rice to our salt shakers, for example. While the rice does, indeed, absorb moisture and keep the salt from crystallizing, there’s more to it than that. For one thing, it’s said that dry salt bring good fortune—since it wards off evil, that makes perfect sense—but that damp salt is an omen of death in the family. Add that to the fact that the magickal properties of rice vibrate to abundant blessings, and you have a veritable good luck spell on your hands.

There’s also the fact that we add salt to water we plan to boil. Although most of us think it’s a simple matter of bringing water to a boil more quickly, there’s more to it than that. In ancient times, it was added as an offering to the Gods, so They’d bless the contents of the pot and prevent good fortune from escaping with the steam.

That brings us to stirring the pot. And whether right-handed or left-handed, whether working in a circular motion or a figure eight, it’s something that everyone involuntarily handles in the same fashion: We all stir clockwise. How does this happen? Well, it’s just one of those interesting human phenomena—a phenomenon with a basis in magick. When we stir clockwise, we emulate the movement of the Sun. And in doing so, we reap His blessings—general gain and success, health, wealth, good luck, etc.—-not only upon the food we’re preparing but upon all those who partake of it.

However, if we choose to stir the pot in a counter-clockwise motion—and this will take some doing as stirring in the other direction is completely automatic—it drastically changes the energies contained within the food. Need proof? When a pot is about to boil over, just point at it, move your finger clockwise around the outside perimeter, and see what happens. The level of the contents lowers in the pot and there’s no need to turn down the heat. That’s because you’ve changed the vibrational energy of the substance. And it’s precisely this type of energy that you’ll want to accumulate when working extremely manipulative magick and build upon while visualizing your intent.

One more thing: If you’re going to use food to accomplish your magickal goals, be absolutely certain that you name your target during preparation. Why? Because you’ll want to prevent the magick within the food from affecting you or someone else. In fact, it’s a good idea to take things a step further and charge any prepared food with a food incantation.  This is one case where it truly is better to be safe than sorry!

The Witches Spell for January 7th – Mary Caliendo’s Potato Chip Hex

Mary Caliendo’s Potato Chip Hex

This is so easy, you can perform it right at the office. Don’t let its simplicity fool you though. It’s powerful enough to get rid of even the nastiest boss or co-worker.

You will need:

2 bags potato chips (get them from the vending machine in your building if possible)

3 packets black pepper

1 sticky note

Black pen

Stapler

The Spell:

Open both bags to let the air out. Write your enemy’s name on the sticky note in black ink, place it in one of the bags, and add the pepper. Sit on one bag to crush the chips. (Move around a little to make sure all the chips are in small little crumbs). Retrieve the bag, fold the top three times, and staple several times to secure. Place the bag in your purse, and toss it in a public garbage receptacle after work.

Now, eat the other bag of chips. You certainly wouldn’t want to appear to be doing anything suspicious at work, now would you?

Your Feng Shui Tip for Dec. 29th – ‘Tick Tock Day’

There’s no better day than ‘Tick Tock Day’ to remind us that the countdown to the New Year has begun. In fact, it might be a great day to buy some round foods to eat on New Year’s Day. Round foods are thought to bring luck throughout the following year. Many cultures maintain that anything in a round shape will ring in tons of great fortune since this shape symbolizes the end of one year and a seamless beginning to the next. The Dutch say that eating donuts on New Year’s Day will fill any money holes you have in your life. Many cooks in the Southern United States believe that eating black-eyed peas is another way to magnetize awesome good luck. Cabbage is also eaten to attract luck and boost immunity. But never use a knife, scissors or anything cutting on New Year’s Day lest you cut the cords connected to all that fortune, health and luck.
