GREY MAGICK

GREY MAGICK

Sometimes referred to as ‘middle’ or ‘middle path’ magick, it is basically the use of negative energy for good purpose. For instance…using a love or money spell to help another in dire need. Grey magick is performed with the hope for good intended results. Sometimes grey magick is the the use of both black and white magick- a practioner of the Craft who uses both aspects of magick (black and white) to achieve desired results. Some people within the Craft use grey Magick, as they personally believe that this balances the natural order of things…it balances Karma.

  1. We all have our various opinions. I believe that is because we each come from a different Path or Tradition. Laure, you have been given some excellent advice so far. From your question, I am assuming you are new to the Craft. I would suggest you study all the various Paths & Traditions that it offers. After you pick your Path, then you can delve deeper into white, grey or black magick. I still stand on my beliefs that every witch walks a very fine line in The Craft. That line happens to be grey magick. Some might disagree with me but that is my own personal beliefs.

  2. I’ve looked online and couldn’t really find anything to help me learn more about grey magick. Do I just dive into both white and black magick?

    1. Yes, basically. Also, I would suggest looking into “inner alchemy.” It’s the ultimate fusion of polar energies, “as above, so below,” or what alchemists call the Great Work. It’s essentially “grey magic,” but it’s also a lot more than just that.
Find a culture that inspires you and look into folklore, recipe books, artifacts, and academic and anthropological research from that culture. Hoodoo, Yoruba, Siberian Shamanism, Norse and Icelandic magic, Chinese Taoism, the Celtic Fae, heck, Santeria. You will find more information in that than you will in any Llewellyn book– great for beginners, but not quite what you are thirsting for, I can tell.
Essentially, the hunt of any witch who is beyond a novice is, ultimately, a solitary venture. Even in group work and mentorships, you will discover more by reflecting on what you learn with your own inner knowing.
What is grey witchcraft? Well, study both “black magic” and “white magic,” then decide for yourself.

      1. Personally, I think it is important that any practitioner study as many Religions, Paths & Traditions as possible. I can understand committing to one Path but I don’t believe in limiting your learning. Our religion is one of continuous learning and growing. As far as grey witchcraft, I believe every witch is a grey witch whether they admit it or not. There is a fine line between white and black magick. We walk that line daily. It doesn’t hurt anything to know about black witchcraft. If nothing else for protection. If you don’t study it then how will you ever recognize if you are being attacked by a black witch. Then how will you know to take the appropriate actions to counteract that attack. We walk a fine line, we just have to be careful not to fall off on the wrong side.
