Burn and banish with Bay

Burning of bay leaf has been used for banishing negative energies and cleansing space for eons!

An herb with a beautiful ancient history bay leaf is used to communicate with the Gods themselves.

About:

Bay leaf also known as laurel is a hardy evergreen tree with deep green foliage native to the Mediterranean region. When the leaves are dried they can be used in cooking, infusing the food in beautiful aromatic herbal earthy flavors or can also be used as an incense.

History- The first record of banishing using Bay Leaf:

This was the sacred plant of Apollo one that was used by the Pythia in the temple to Apollo at Delphi. It was Apollo’s desire and near obsession of the Nymph Daphne that drove Daphne’s father, who happened to be a river God, turning her into a bay tree to protect her from the lustful grasps of Apollo.

As a regret for his actions the God Apollo wore a crown of bay to banish his stupidity and to encourage valor and honor.

Magick:

Below is a wonderful way to use bay leaf to bring positivity in your life. Incidentally you can also use it for divination by writing what it is you desire to see on the leaf.

For banishing however you can try this method below. I carry dried bay leaves in a small mojo bag to banish bad energy around me and keep me safe when I’m out and about.

  • Ingredients- Dried Bay leaf, candle, fireproof bowl, lighter, pen.
  • Set up you altar space as usuall and then with the fire and bowl (i use a copper bowl to harness the energy) to the right that would represent the bowl of salt and the bay leaf and marker to the left that would represent the athame and wand.
  • Wrote the things you wish to banish, on one or so leaves. I like the number 3.
  • Write- whatever it is that you want to banish, be gone, no longer need such as toxic relationships, toxic thoughts, toxic actions and habits, procrastination, fear, anger, temper etc, things that debilitate us in our life and stunt our growth.
  • Light one by one and say “I release my attachment to old thoughts and patterns” (remember bay leaves catch on fire very quickly because of the volatile oils).
  • Drop the bay leaf into the fireproof container ( be careful) and visualize all the negativity literally being banished in the plume of the bay smoke. This is the best bit. It can feel so liberating!
  • Once this is done, dispose of the ashes outside of your home back into the earth to be neutralized by the Great Mother, and as you do say “Be gone” 3 times as loud as possible, releasing this negativity from your life for good!

Note: Begin to meditate by clearing your mind and relax into the stillness that you have created. Allow your thoughts to leave your head just like the smoke going up.  Breathe in the feeling of peace, possibilities, and newness. Be alive, be aware and remember to be you.

It’s always good to replace the banished negativity with something positive.  I find it easier by creating a happy memory, sing a little song, or ring some bells, my favourite is drumming. Some even like to dance.  Bring a little cheer and happines into your home, mind, and body. This is where the change happens . For an extra relaxing experience I often like to take a bath after a ritual with beautiful essential oils.

Magickal Herbal Use: Lesson 2 – Basic Herbs

Lesson Two: Basic Herbs

by Leillan

Most people will have at least the basic kitchen herbs in their cabinet. Remember the term “herb” does not exclude flowers and trees. You may be surprised to know how many different flowers and woods fall into the magickal category.

Roses are traditionally aligned with water. They can be used for psychic powers, love divination, luck, protection, and healing. Use a single rose in a vase on the altar for powerful help in love divinations. A cup of rosewater tea at bed time can help you dream prophetic dreams.

Even a Daisy has power where lust and love is concerned, and is said to bring love when worn. A simple divination that’s been done for years can be done with a daisy. Remember the “He loves me, He loves me not?”  That is love divination in its most basic form.

Carnations can offer protection, healing and strength. Place carnations on the altar during healing rituals, and use the petals in amulets and incense.

Oak is good to use for money, protection, potency, fertility, and luck. It is said that carrying any piece of oak will draw good luck. Take 2 twigs from an oak tree and tie them together in an equal armed cross; hang them in your house to guard against evil. Make a small equal armed cross and carry it with you in your wallet or purse for protection during the day.

So much for the garden, on to the kitchen.

Have you ever felt the need for just a little extra strength?  Take out the Bay Leaf. Bay lends strength to you or your purpose. Use bay in workings involving purification and protection. Bay is also used for wisdom blends. Burn bay in incense for help in solving a problem, or use  it in a ritual bath when you’ll be facing a situation where you’ll really need your wits about you.

Basil has been called “the Witches Herb” for centuries. Basil has been used for exorcism, protection,  in “flying ointments”, and love potions. “Where Basil grows, no evil goes!” and “Where Basil is, no evil lives,”  goes the old adages. Basil, given as a gift, will bring good luck to a new home. Sprinkled around the house, it wards off evil.

Sage helps to promote wisdom. It can also be used for wishes and protection. Carrying sage is said to bring you wisdom. Some traditions say it is bad luck to plant sage in your own garden; instead, you should have someone else do it for you. If you take a sage leaf and write your fondest wish upon it, then place it under your pillow for three nights, it is said you’ll dream of what you wish, and your dream will come true. I use sage in incense to help with learning.

Anise is good for protection and purification. I use it sometimes in candles or incense for meditation and protection.

Last but not least, is Salt. Sea salt is best. Salt cleanses and purifies. It can be used in cleansing rituals, and banishings. Use salted water to purify new tools. If you have a fire place, throw pine needles into into the first fire of the season. After they begin burning, throw some salt into the flames. This will help protect your house, dispel evil, and bring happiness to the home.

More Common Herbs

Chamomile gives relaxation, calmness, love, and purification. This is an excellent herb to include in a ritual bath sachet. It brings peace and protection to the user. It is a love herb but what is so different about it is the fact that it can help get rid of evil. (That’s a little different for an herb that is used in love and relaxation).

Use Pennyroyal for strength, protection and peace. Known as the “Herb of Peace,” pennyroyal given to two fighting partners will cause them to stop fighting. Used in ritual, pennyroyal adds strength to you and your working.

Use Wood Betony for protection, purification, and love. Betony is added to purification mixtures and incenses. It is traditional to burn betony in a bonfire on Midsummer and then jump through the smoke to purify the body of ills and evil. Betony is also said to help people be more attractive to the opposite sex.

Use Catnip for Love, Happiness, and (of course) cat magick. Given to your cat, it will create a psychic bond between the two of you. However, it can be intoxicating to the cat. Catnip and rose petals are used in love sachets.

Damiana is burned for visions, and is also used in lust spells.

Ferns are good for protection, luck, riches, and banishings. Dried fern is thrown upon hot coals to banish evil and protect the home. Wearing Fern is said to draw the riches to the wearer. You can also use it in natural incense for a little extra power. Fern is like a little push; it kind of hides in the blend until the right moment, and then comes out to add that last little kick, just when you need it most.

Honeysuckle is used to increase psychic powers and provide protection. A honeysuckle bush growing near your house will bring good luck.

Rosemary is a herb of achievement and mental alertness.

Tie the corners together with a length of string, so that you have a little bundle of herbs.

Before each interview, hold this bundle and visualize yourself walking into the interview room, radiating confidence imagine yourself being in a position to pick and chose jobs at will.

Happy Wednesday, dear friends!

Hello dear friends! I hope everyone is having a lovely day so far. The sun is shining here and it looks like it is going to be an awesome day. I started another post a little bit ago. But I deleted it. The reason I deleted it is because I got to thinking about the old group I use to have. Some of the people in it and some of the things that went on (without my approval and done behind my back). Thinking about these things put me in a very serious mood to say the least. I wanted to talk to you about protecting yourself and also your home. When you are on the internet, you never know who you are dealing with. I had people in that group sending demons after each other, yes, demons.  Now do you see why you need to protect yourself. I am not trying to scare you. I have seen things done that I don’t even want to talk about. But I want to forewarn as many people as possible. This stuff can be prevented and guarded against. First, you need to know how to shield yourself. I think I have something on the blog about how to do this. If I don’t I will post it. Next, it is a good idea to put a shield around your home especially when you are in it. While we are in your house, put up wards. They help immensely and are easily done. Next, I have added my own little ritual here, I take blessed sea salt and put it in all four corners of my home. Doesn’t hurt. Next you can smudge your house with sage. Some recommend white sage but if you can’t get that regular old sage works just fine. That’s what I use anyway.  Good thing I got up to get more coffee or else I would have forgotten this tip. We had spiders super bad and to top it off, one of the women made a remark about my husband that I took very personal. So I got a fresh bottle of Bay Leaves from the supermarket and put them in all four corners of each room in my house. The Bay not only protects your house, it also gets rid of spiders. I have a schedule I try to stick to and certain phases of the Moon help keep me on track. The Full Moon rolls around, it is time to bless the outside of the house. I have about a pint size plastic container that I put sea salt in. Then I take it outside and meditate and pray for a little bit. Should add, you must put the salt where moonbeams will hit it. After the salt has been blessed, I start my house blessing. Stop at all four corner, you can say a chant or prayer. Then as you move from corner to corner, sprinkle salt along the way. Be sure to get your thresholds good.  I know what you must be thinking, my goodness what does her house look like? Normal as yours. Everything is done discreetly. The Bay Leaves in the corners, I am the only one that knows their there. The salt in the corners, the same thing I only know it’s there. You can have a magickally protected home and no one knows it but you. The outside house blessing can be done as needed. It doesn’t necessarily have to be done at the Full Moon that’s my schedule. I also do it when Kiki starts acting crazy. She is super sensitive to spirits and she knows the minute something shows up that isn’t suppose to be there. If you have a familiar that is like that, then you know it is time to do a house blessing.

You will hear me talk about using salt and sage quite a bit. Salt is a super protective item. People take old BOS and seal them with sea salt. I have a Quija Board that I have sealed in salt. If salt is powerful enough to contain evil, then it is fine to bless your home with.  Sage, Bay leaves and Lavender are some of my favorite herbs to work with. I haven’t mentioned the Lavender before, so I will shed a little light on it. Lavender to me, represent peace, calm and serenity. So when I spring clean, I will take Lavender incense and waft it into the four corners of the room. If I have cones, I will leave one burning in that room also. But it just feels so good when you do these things. Your home feels so peaceful and you are so relaxed. It is just an awesome feeling. If nothing else, buy you a pack of Lavender incense and see if they don’t make a difference in your house. Almost forgot, you can buy those Airwick or Glade plug-in fans with the scent attachment. I hope you know what I am talking about, but they have a lavender scent to them. I have those in the kitchen and the minute everyone walks in they feel so relaxed. You can watch the expression on their face change. The problem is, once they get here, they don’t won’t to leave, lol! My daughter went she was dating would get so pissed at here dates. They would come in and sit down in the living room and wait for her. We have two huge windows in the living room that looks out to the pond and they would sit down on the love seat and ask her if they really had to go.  I would laugh my butt off and I would get a steer “MOTHER” from her, lol!

But seriously though, try some of these ideas for your home. A witch has a very strong  aura and this can be sensed by many people, animals and other critters. I forgot that “critter” psychic vampires, yes they do exist. They sense you and they will hone in and try to suck all your energy. I am not trying to scare you, I just want you to take precautions. I don’t want you to be as stupid as I was when I first got on the internet. I admit it I grew up in the sticks and Witchcraft was present everyday but no one sent demons after another. That wasn’t heard of. So when I got on the net, I had a very rude awakening. None of them bothered me because they said they knew I was a very powerful witch, that they could feel my energy and presence. Now if that’s true I don’t know. But what they were doing to each other. We are supposed to be brothers and sisters in the Craft. I would tell them we have enough obstacles out there to overcome, don’t be fighting each other. But please protect yourself, I don’t want you to make the same mistakes I made. The Craft is a wonderful and beautiful Religion. There are still a few that give it a bad name. But there are more and more of us coming together to stomp out the evil and negativity that is in our midst, in order to show the world what we are truly all about. I know that is my mission. I believe very strongly in my Religion and I do not want anything to tarnish it. We have come to far to let that happen. If you need any help with anything I have posted here, let me know and I will gladly help you. Or if you need help at anytime, feel free to let me know. Till then………..

Blessings to you and yours.
