King of Swords – Minor Arcana Court Card
The price of success; the cruel logic of revolution; despotism
Description: A solider has won his battles. He stands by the crown and executioner’s block.
Interpretation: Here’s Oliver Cromwell, who ended up toppling the king and ruling England as monarch in all but name. Behind his the block on which he had Charles 1 executed. Between his feet is the crown. He’s won! So why’s he looking so rueful?
In the distance we see a bucking horse, the same horse that threw the Knight of Swords from his saddle. Ah, so the Knight was Cromwell! Well now the battle’s over. He’s got what he wanted and now he must live by the consequences. In Cromwell’s case, he ended up becoming a killer and the very kind of despot that he fought against in the first place. He should have read Shakespeare: “{Uneasy lies the head that wears the crown.”
The card is a warning then to be careful what you wish for. You may have good, reasonable cause—yet there’ll be consequences that could strip you of the happiness you hoped for. The chopping block indicates that they’ll be bloody. Cromwell could have stayed home on his farm. We probably wouldn’t remember him, but he might have had a longer, easier, and happier life. He might have died with his conscience clear.
Reading: Be careful what you wish for. It’s much harder being a king than it looks.

Roadrunner
“Keep your sense of humor, and don’t take things so seriously”
It’s so tempting to view life in all of its many manifestations, permutations, and variations as something to be taken quite seriously, yet this is exactly the opposite of what you need to do right now. No matter what the situation, look for the humor in it. It may take time to find something, but if you look for it with this attitude in mind, you begin to see the absurdities and ironies inherent in whatever shows up in life, even in the darkest circumstances. Maintaining a healthy sense of humor about most experiences causes you to be lighter in spirit, to smile unabashedly, and to appreciate life that much more. Turn that scowl upside down by doing what makes you openly laugh.
Of course there are certainly times that require a more serious demeanor. Tragedies or traumatic experiences don’t call for cheerfulness and humor. When events occur, appropriate social restrictions apply that demand the expression of emotions congruent with the circumstances. However, these instances are temporary and all like things, will soon pass. Other than these kinds of situations, life’s ironies and absurdities abound. Rather than feeling personally victimized by these vagaries take a deep breath, see the humor in the situation, and have a laugh!

The Moon
Relying on old ways of doing things could impede your success if you do not handle the moon’s intuitive energy properly.
Drawing the Moon Stone suggests wisdom gained through experience of memory, but does not mean you should stay in a rut or stick to the kinds of habits that only forfeit your success.
The idea of family, home and ancestors is important now. Such memories may well be the key you need to unlock a certain puzzle that is troubling you.
Drawing the Moon Stone says that there will be a
sudden shift in the circumstances surrounding the immediate question. Bide your time before initiating any kind of action.
Now is the time to pay attention to your dreams.

Amhancholl
Ae (sometimes represented as X or Xi), is Amhancholl or Eamhancholl, associated with Witch Hazel. This natural astringent is purifying and cleansing. The word Eamhancholl literally translates to “twin of Hazel”, so there is a strong connection to C–Coll in the Ogham. When Amhancholl appears, it’s usually an indicator that cleansing and purification is necessary or has taken place.
From a purely medicinal standpoint, Witch Hazel has long been used as a cleanser and astringent. Native American tribes turned it into a poultice which was used to treat swelling and tumors. Amongst the early settlers, midwives arriving in the New World found that it could be used to prevent sepsis following childbirth or an abortion. Today, it’s still in use as a treatment for skin inflammations, such as insect bites, mild burns, and even hemorrhoids.
Amhancholl Correspondences
Mundane Aspects: When this symbol appears, it means it’s time for a cleansing. Sometimes this is a physical cleansing of our Self, but often it applies to emotional clutter and baggage. Smudge your home, get rid of all the negative energies around you, and allow yourself to purify both your body and your mind.
Magical Aspects: This is a good indicator that you need to do a re-evaluation of your spiritual life. Are you studying things that no longer interest you? Are you hanging on to books or other magical items that you know you’ll never need–or worse, that you really dislike? If you’re feeling stagnant, or that you’re drifting a bit on a spiritual level, when this symbol appears it probably means you need to rethink your priorities. What are your spiritual goals? Do a cleansing ritual, and help yourself begin anew.

One
Among the nine single-digit numbers, the 1 holds a special place in numerology.
The Numerology Meaning of the Number 1: THE PRIMAL FORCE
From a spiritual perspective, the 1 is the number of creation – the primal force from which all other numbers spring forth. Some say once you truly understand the place and function of this elemental number, enlightenment will be yours.
This statement doesn’t apply to a Numerologist’s perspective alone, but perhaps it’s a good place to start since the personality of the number 1 aligns nicely with its elevated spiritual symbolism.
The 1 is a doer, a powerful force that produces results.
The 1 is aggressive – a necessary trait for creating, and not allowing anything to limit its potential. The 1 is the spearhead, always in the forefront directing and leading others.
The shape of this number reflects its meaning; the 1 walks upright with pride and purpose – strong, determined, and unwavering with a specific goal in mind. The 1 is capable of turning ideas into reality – pushing obstacles aside or simply drilling right through them.
The 1 tends to have a simple, straightforward view of life, heedless of its many complexities.
Befriend a 1 and you have a friend for life.

Fifty-Three
(One Person’s View) The Runes and The Elemental Links
Most people with even a smattering of knowledge of astrology will be aware of the elements of earth,
air, fire and water, and that three zodiac signs fit into each element. It should come as no surprise,
therefore, to learn that a rune also corresponds to each element.
What follows here are the most widely accepted linkages between the elements and four of the runes.
Also given are other runes which are said to link in with the element being discussed.
Earth
The element of earth is concerned with solid foundations, and with keeping in touch with reality. It
may be interesting to learn that Eihwaz, an earth rune, is sometimes called ‘the Rune of Death’ because
of the poisonous qualities of the yew tree with which it is associated.
Also associated with the earth element are Uruz, Wunjo, Berkana, Othila, Isa (which can also link
with the water element, ice being frozen water) and Jera. Isa, Eihwaz and Jera are also said to link
with the New Moon.
Water
Kaunaz is, surprisingly, a water rune. It relates to bonfires, but does not equate to the element of fire.
To the Vikings, bonfires were a physical light in the darkness, as well as symbolising inner knowledge
or enlightenment. It relates to emotions and intuition, and therefore its element is water. Some
runemasters will disagree here, preferring to keep Kaunaz with its symbol of fire.
Also associated with the water element are Perth, Lagu, Ing, Raido and Gebo. Hagalaz has
connections with ice, and so also correctly belongs with this element. Kaunaz, Raido and Gebo are
said to link with the waning of the moon. Gebo and Raido also link with the element of air.
Air
Ansuz, an air rune has a strong connection with Odin, who was considered to have discovered the
runes in the root of the Tree of the World, and as such has a link with the ash tree. He was also
considered to be the source of knowledge and inspiration and it therefore follows that Odin should be
described as the source of language, and the runes as a form of communication.
Ansuz relates to the element of air, to divine breath, to thought and to the power of the intellect.
Also associated with the element of air are Teiwaz, Berkana (which also links to earth having a
duality in element) and Ehwaz, which also link with the waxing of the moon. Algiz is also said to link
with the air element, as do Sowelu and Mannaz.
It should be noted that some runemasters suggest that Ansuz is more correctly linked with fire and
water rather than air.
Fire
Dagaz is a fire rune, and represents day, breakthrough. It is associated, too, with the dawn of the
world, since the earth was born in flames. Dagaz is considered to be the illuminator, the light, and as
such cannot be destroyed. It is the guardian by the doorway, a protective force against anything
harmful. Dagaz is another case of elemental duality, associated both with fire and air.
Also associated with the element of fire are Othila and Fehu, which also link with the full moon, and
with the element of earth – again, being dual in elemental nature. Thurisaz, Nauthiz and Eihwaz are
also said to link with fire, but it is worth noting that many runemasters consider Eihwaz as belonging
Spell for Monday – Psychic Communication

Psychic Communication Spell
This spell will help increase your long-distance psychic abilities. For it, you’ll need a like-minded partner who does not live with you. Set a time when you can perform this ritual with your friend. You’ll both need a white candle and charged amethyst stone. At the designated time, each of you should light your candle and gaze at the flame. Handle the amethyst stone. Concentrate on one thought; visualize a blue-white light surrounding the candle. Then, project your thought in the direction of your partner. Limit this exercise to about ten minutes. Extinguish the candle and call your friend. Tell each other what you felt, thought, or any images you saw. Perform this ritual at least once a month and you will increase your psychic awareness. Ideally, this spell should be worked on Mondays or Wednesdays, during a waxing Moon.

In Memory of WOTC Founder Lady of the Abyss
I type this with tears flowing because I still think about our Lady Abyss everyday. I have her picture on my desk and ask her for guidance often with the website. I had very few people in my life that helped and guided me as a sister and friend as much as she did when I was lost after my mother crossed in 2015. Lady A has touched the hearts and minds of so many people both face to face and through WOTC. She would find time to reply to emails from people needing help or just to say hi to her.
Her and I had a running joke that she twisted my arm hard to come out of retirement and once again help people who want to learn about witchcraft, and/or attend an online coven gathering. She comes to me in my dreams and first kicks my ass for even thinking of throwing in the towel on WOTC than gives me a pep talk about all the people I have helped become a safe practicing witch.
I am thankful for all the years I got to know and love our Lady. I am trying to keep WOTC the kind of website she would be proud of. I might not have everything posted every day that she had but I am trying to do my best for her and all of you dear Sisters, Brothers, and Guests. Am I succeeding?
Please leave your thoughts and memories of Lady of the Abyss in the comments section below as we honor her crossing into the Summerlands 6 years ago.
Blessed be from Lady of the Abyss and myself.
April 23, Northern Hemisphere Current Moon Phase
Source: nineplanets.org
The current moon phase for today is the Waning Crescent phase.
On this day, the moon is 24.89 days old and 28.32% illuminated with a tilt of -72.88°. The approximate distance from Earth to the moon is 373,586.53 km and the moon sign is Aquarius.
The Moon phase for today is a Waning Crescent phase. This is the phase where the moon is less than 50% illuminated but has not yet reached 0% illumination (which would be a New Moon).
In this part of the moon cycle, it is getting closer and closer to the Sun as viewed from Earth and the night side of the Moon is facing earth with a decreasingly thin crescent being illuminated.
The waning (shrinking) crescement Moon will rise at around midnight, transit the meridian after sunrise, before setting after noon. This phase is best viewed 1-2 hours before sunrise and is a great time to see the features of the Moon’s surface. Along the illuminated crescent you can see the craters and mountains of the moon casting long shadows.
The Waxing Gibbous phase, like all moon phases, will last for just over 7 days. The actual length will vary because of the elliptical shaped orbit of the moon. During this Waxing Gibbous phase the moon will rise in the east in the mid- to late-afternoon and will be high in the eastern sky at sunset.
Assuming it’s a clear night, the Waxing Gibbous moon will then be visible through most of the night before setting just before sunrise.
Fun fact: the illuminated side of a waning crescent moon is always pointed eastwards, towards the sunrise.

The Moon’s current phase for today and tonight is a Waning Crescent phase. This phase is best viewed just before the sunrise in the western sky. In this phase the Moon’s illumination is growing smaller each day until the New Moon. During this part of the Moon cycle, the Moon is getting closer to the Sun as viewed from Earth and the night side of the Moon is facing the Earth with only a small edge of the Moon being illuminated. It can also be a great time to see the features of the Moon’s surface. Along the edge where the illuminated portion meets the dark side, the craters and mountains cast long shadows making them easier to observe with a telescope or binoculars.

Moon Alert
After 1:30 AM EDT today, there are no restrictions to shopping or important decisions today. The Moon is in Pisces.
The Stars Rate Your Day
5-Dynamic; 4-Positive; 3-Average; 2-So-so; 1-Difficult
Aries (March 21-April 19)
** This could be a challenging day for you because you might have a dispute with a friend or a group about property, or money issues, or something related to a possession of yours. Perhaps someone has damaged something you own? Or a group won’t cancel a membership fee? It could be anything. Keep your cool.
Taurus (April 20-May 20)
*** This is a classic day for having difficulty dealing with authority figures – parents, bosses, supervisors, teachers, VIPs, or the police. Unfortunately, these interactions could end up being a clash of wills. This disagreement could be a minor speedbump, or a major problem. Stay chill.
Gemini (May 21-June 20)
** Today will have some challenges for you; and one challenge might be that others are aware of your difficulties. Some of you might have to let go of something or give up something. But the truth is that down deep, you knew this was inevitable. To stay alive, every year the snake has to shed its skin.
Cancer (June 21-July 22)
*** You might have to run from ego battles with a friend or a member of a group, especially about shared property or a dispute about an issue. Or maybe you want to face the music? Either way, this could be a testing day for you with anyone who has an agenda.
Leo (July 23-Aug. 22)
** Relations with others are strained today. In fact, someone in authority might make demands on you. They might even want you to account for yourself about something? (Your regal nature will not like this. Such treatment is beneath you.) Seek a compromise.
Virgo (Aug. 23-Sept. 22)
** You might get into a controversial dispute about politics and religion today because people are opinionated and very pushy with their ideas. (Not you, of course.) Be smart and steer clear of the touchy subjects because some people are looking for a fight today.
Libra (Sept. 23-Oct. 22)
*** Today is difficult for many people because emotions are running high and people are entrenched in their views. You might encounter this in discussions with someone related to shared property, debt or even shared responsibilities. Use your Libran charm and diplomacy to deal with this.
Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 21)
** You might feel as if someone is testing you today. Or perhaps, that you’re tested by a situation, especially dealing with partners, spouses and close friends. Discussions about relationships and family issues might be blunt and pushy. Go gently.
Sagittarius (Nov. 22-Dec. 21)
*** Mechanical breakdowns or equipment problems related to your work or where you live might create stress for you today. Quite possibly, power struggles with coworkers might also take place. Something might be broken beyond repair today.
Capricorn (Dec. 22-Jan. 19)
*** Relationships with many people are tested today. Parents will find that their relations with their own kids are likewise challenging. Therefore, do your best to avoid hissy fits and meltdowns with kids. Don’t get caught up in a power struggle. Be the adult.
Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 18)
** There’s a strong likelihood that family squabbles will arise because of power struggles, especially with parents or older family members. Something might be broken. Someone might be forced to make changes, especially if something isn’t working out. Today could be a harsh reality check.
Pisces (Feb. 19-March 20)
*** Pay attention to everything you say and do today in order to avoid accidents. Obviously, an accident does not have to happen but if you’re angry or feeling pressured by someone, these feelings might distract you and indirectly create an accident. Stay calm and be mindful.
If Your Birthday Is Today
TV host, comedian John Oliver (1977) shares your birthday today. You are inquisitive, compassionate and tenacious. You are also independent, gregarious and artistic. One Way of Reading Druid Ogham
What is Ogham?
Ogham is a divination system like Tarot cards or runes that is also a system of writing used by the ancient Celts known as Druids. Ogham letters (also called Fews) are made up of simple lines that can be inscribed on any convenient surface. They are read from the bottom up.
Each Ogham letter stands for a type of tree, and the characteristics of that tree (prickly like holly, flexible like willow) grant the Ogham its insights into human nature. Just as each Tarot card should be studied for its individual meaning and its relationship to other cards, Ogham were meant to be studied one by one. This website is the product of my own discursive meditations with Ogham.
Individual Ogham letters are often engraved on sticks or printed on cards in order to use them for divination. To read Ogham as one would read Tarot cards or runes, any number of spreads can be utilized from asking a simple yes or no question where you pull a single Ogham stick/card to complex interpretations of a dozen Oghams thrown on a table or on the ground reveal the future depending on the angles at which they fall. I personally prefer a simple three Ogham reading. I do it every day sometime in the morning. In my mind or out loud, I ask the Ogham: “What do I need to know in order to make the best out of today?” and then reach my hand into the box where I keep my Ogham tiles. Then I pick three of them and lay them side by side.

Flashback 2002 Lammas
Lammas is the first of the harvest festivals and this year despite the fiery Sun, it has a strong, sensual feel of cardinal earth. Mars lends a masculine energy to the Sun this week to help with the organizing for this bread festival. Round cornbread as a solar disk is an apt and easy choice for the altar, but if you plan several days ahead, you can sprout a small amount (1/4 cup) of wheat or barely for kitchen witchery. Add this to your other grains to your own bread from scratch; or buy frozen bread dough, thaw, pat into a rectangle, and sprinkle the sprouted grains. Roll up your dough like a jelly roll and place in a greased bread pan into which you have sprinkled Irish oats. You can use a sharp knife to crave goddess symbols into the loaf before baking.

Some of the Witchcraft/Magickal Correspondence for Saturday
(YOU CAN COPY AND PASTE ANY COROSPONDENCES POSTED TO A DOCUMENT TO PRINT AND/OR SAVE ON YOUR COMPUTER)
Saturday
Saturday is a day filled with opportunities to clean up and clear out. So if you are wondering why Hecate is assigned to this day, take another look at what she symbolizes and the magick that is associated with her. That should answer the question.
Hecate was the oldest form of the Greek Triple Goddess, as she presided over heaven, the underworld, and earth. Crossroads where three roads met were especially sacred to Hecate, earning her the title of Hekate of the Three Ways. It’s interesting to note that even after the worship of other goddesses waned, ancient people still worshiped Hecate as the Queen of the Underworld and the Guardian of the Three-Way Crossroad. It was also believed that if you left her an offering of food there, she would grant you her favors. As Hecate Trivia, her triple images were often displayed at these crossroads, where she was petitioned on the full moon for positive magick and on the dark of the moon for cursing and dark magick.
While this last bit of information sounds a little ominous, keep in mind that Hecate/Hekate was known by many titles and is a shapeshifter. Her appearance could and did change often. As a dark moon goddess, her faces are many. To some she may appear as a old crone, hunched over a smoking cauldron and draped in a midnight cape. To others she may appear as a dark beautiful, mysterious, and mature woman wearing a shimmering crown. To some she may be perceived as a maiden priestess. She was called the “most lovely one,” the Great Goddess of Nature, and the Queen of the World of Spirits. This dark goddess knows her way around the earth and the underworld. All the powers of nature, life, and death are at her command.

Flashback 2002 Imbolc
Imbolc is an important day of purification and initiation; on the Sun’s day, February 2, the energies are very airy. This Sabbat is a good day for coven work, with an emotionally detached masculine Moon and Sun on the Sun’s day.
Dress yourself and your altar in white, while serving white beverages or any dairy food to honor the calving season. Spread the top of a one-pound round Camembert or Bire cheese with raspberry preserves. Cut a circle of puff pastry large enough to cover the cheese, wrap it, tucking the ends of the pastry under. Use scraps to decorate the top with goddess symbols. Brush with beaten egg yolk. Bake at 425 degrees until golden, and serve hot and melting on crackers. During this ritual, bless and dedicate all candles you will need for other ritual work throughout the year. A good way to start the ceremony is to light candles in the darkened room with chanting to encourage the lengthening days.

One Way to Consecrate Magickal Tools
Any object you will be using on your altar during rituals or when doing spells should be an object used just for magickal workings. These objects become Magickal Tools after being consecrated to be used just for rituals.
To consecrate an object first cleanse it of all energy that it holds or is sticking to it from other people handling it.
After the objects are cleansed cast a sacred circle. Lay all items in a row on the surface you are using as an altar. Each item should be blessed and consecrated individually.
Call upon either the God and Goddess you feel the most comfortable working with or Hecate (Goddess of Witches, Home and Hearth, one name for the Triple Goddess) and the Horned God. The Horned Gods to aspects are the Oak King who reigns between the Summer and Winter Solstices or the Oak King who reigns between Winter and Summer Solstices.
While making the sign of the pentagram above each object a simple incantation will work such as:
I call upon ______ and ______ to bless and consecrate this _________
to be used to in any magick I work and/or ritual I perform.
I ask Spirit, Air, Water, Fire and Earth to bless and consecrate this _________
to be used in any magick and/or ritual I perform.
So mote it be.

THE ORIGIN OF FRIDAY THE 13TH AS AN UNLUCKY DAY
Being wary of Friday the 13th is much more than a quaint superstition observed by a few uneducated people in distant, unreachable towns and hamlets. In the United States alone, it is estimated that between 17 and 21 million people dread that date to the extent that it can be officially classified as a phobia.
So why is Friday the 13th considered such an “evil” day?
The origins aren’t perfectly clear, but we do know that both Friday and, separately, the number 13 have long been considered unlucky and it was around the late 19th century that the first documented instances started popping up of people putting the two together to form the unluckiest day of all.
