Elemental Correspondence Earth and Air, Fire and Water

Earth, fire, water and air. the four elements and how they are used for ritual.

Not all witches use elemental correspondences, and among those who do, there is a great deal of variation. The most common elements used in Wicca and witchcraft are earth, air, fire, and water. Spirit is often added to acknowledge the spiritual component of them all. You will have to experiment to find what works best for you.

When invoking the elements, they are often associated with the cardinal directions, often with Air in the East, Fire in the South, Water in the West, and Earth in the North. However, this is by no means the only possibility. The elements themselves may vary as well. For example, some Celtic traditions use earth, sky, and water, and others use the cosmological realms of Underworld, Earth and Sky.

Thus, the correspondences listed within this page provide only one possibility among many. The sources for these correspondences include Scott Cunningham, Silver Ravenwolf, Amber Wolfe, Yasmine Galenorn, and Branwen’s Book of Shadows which undoubtedly owes credit to dozens of unnamed sources. Books by these renowned authors can be purchased though out online shop for further study.

NGC 289: Swirl in the Southern Sky

Image Credit & Copyright: Mike SelbyExplanation: About 70 million light-years distant, gorgeous spiral galaxy NGC 289 is larger than our own Milky Way. Seen nearly face-on, its bright core and colorful central disk give way to remarkably faint, bluish spiral arms. The extensive arms sweep well over 100 thousand light-years from the galaxy’s center. At the lower right in this sharp, telescopic galaxy portrait the main spiral arm seems to encounter a small, fuzzy elliptical companion galaxy interacting with enormous NGC 289. Of course spiky stars are in the foreground of the scene. They lie within the Milky Way toward the southern constellation Sculptor.

BELTANE: SOUTHERN HEMISPHERE

Southern Hemisphere Beltane by Jane Hardwicke Collings

The date for the Southern Hemispheric Beltane is October 31st and ‘May Day’ is November 1st. The climax of Spring!

Beltane is the peak of Spring, a celebration of fertility. In ancient times it was the Beltane Rites that recon- nected each year the King to the Goddess, the masculine to the feminine. It is a time for us to give thanks for our fertile lives, our creativity and our gender specific gifts and roles. Its a time to notice and honour the difference in the masculine and feminine. It is a time of increasing growth, building to almost full potential, of beauty and heightened passion.

Beltane Spiritual Practice

Your being, as part of the Earth, part of the cycle of the seasons, will be influenced by this energy whether you’re paying attention to it or not. If you pay some attention, you will feel it, and you can be in flow with it.

Think like the gardener, and align with the Earth energy of now, contemplate the growth that is peaking in your life, that is getting all the attention…

Prayer and Sacrifice in Ancient Rome

In the Roman mind, there was a sort of contract between the gods and the mortals. As part of this agreement each side would provide as well as receive services.

Thee role of the mortal in this partnership with the gods was to worship the mighty gods. For this there was prayer and sacrifice. And for both of these activities there was firmly defined rituals. To perform these ritual correctly was of paramount importance. One mistake and one would have to begin all over again.

The very nature of Roman religion itself, with its numerous gods, many of which had multiple roles, was cause for problems. Particularly as in some cases not even the sex of a deity was clear. Hence the phrase ‘wether you be god or goddess’ was a widespread in the worship of certain deities. Many Roman gods also had entire colelction of additional names, according to what aspect of life they were a patron to.

So, for example Juno was Juno Lucina in her role of goddess of childbirth. But as goddess of the mint she was known as Juno Moneta (this curious role came about because for a long time the Roman state mint was housed in her temple on the Capitoline hill).

There appear to have been few things for which there was not a special prayer. So, for example, …

NGC 7293: The Helix Nebula

Image Credit & Copyright: Ignacio Diaz BobilloExplanation: A mere seven hundred light years from Earth, toward the constellation Aquarius, a sun-like star is dying. Its last few thousand years have produced the Helix Nebula (NGC 7293), a well studied and nearby example of a Planetary Nebula, typical of this final phase of stellar evolution. A total of 90 hours of exposure time have gone in to creating this expansive view of the nebula. Combining narrow band image data from emission lines of hydrogen atoms in red and oxygen atoms in blue-green hues, it shows remarkable details of the Helix’s brighter inner region about 3 light-years across. The white dot at the Helix’s center is this Planetary Nebula’s hot, central star. A simple looking nebula at first glance, the Helix is now understood to have a surprisingly complex geometry.

Juno Flyby of Ganymede and Jupiter

Video Credit: Images: NASA, JPL-Caltech, SWRI, MSSS;
Animation: Koji Kuramura, Gerald Eichstädt, Mike Stetson; Music: VangelisExplanation: What would it be like to fly over the largest moon in the Solar System? In June, the robotic Juno spacecraft flew past Jupiter‘s huge moon Ganymede and took images that have been digitally constructed into a detailed flyby. As the featured video begins, Juno swoops over the two-toned surface of the 2,000-km wide moon, revealing an icy alien landscape filled with grooves and craters. The grooves are likely caused by shifting surface plates, while the craters are caused by violent impacts. Continuing on in its orbit, Juno then performed its 34th close pass over Jupiter’s clouds. The digitally-constructed video shows numerous swirling clouds in the north, colorful planet-circling zones and bands across the middle — featuring several white-oval clouds from the String of Pearls, and finally more swirling clouds in the south. Next September, Juno is scheduled to make a close pass over another of Jupiter’s large moons: Europa.

Celtic Tree Month – Coll – Hazel Moon August 5 – September 1

About the Celtic Tree Month – Coll (Hazel Moon): August 5 – September 1

“The lunar tree calendar of the Celts has long been a source of controversy among Celtic scholars. Some even claim it was never a part of the old Celtic world, but was an invention of author/researcher Robert Graves. The Druids are generally given credit by other researchers for creating this system. There seems to be no scholarly evidence to prove otherwise, yet many Celtic Pagans feel that the system pre-dates the time of Druidic influence over Celtic religious matters. It is probably reasonable to believe that the truth lies somewhere in between these three extremes. It is most likely that the tree system was in place, with minor regional variations before the time of the Druids who experimented with it, discovered the magical properties of each tree, and codified all the information into the system we have today.”

—-Joelles Sacred Grove

The Hazel Moon was known to the Celts as Coll, which translates to “the life force inside you.” This is the time of year when Hazelnuts are appearing on the trees, and are an early part of the harvest. Hazelnuts are also associated with wisdom and protection. Hazel is often associated in Celtic lore with sacred wells and magical springs containing the salmon of knowledge. This is a good month to do workings related to wisdom and knowledge, dowsing and divination, and dream journeys. If you’re a creative type, such as an artist, writer, or musician, this is a good month to get your muse back, and find inspiration for your talents. Even if you normally don’t do so, write a poem or song this month.

I Come To You This Evening With A Very Sad & Heavy Heart

I received an email from Lady Beltane this evening. It was one that broke my heart and brought me to tears, Lady Beltane’s mother passed this afternoon around 4:00. I do know Lady Beltane and her mother were close. I know this has ripped her heart into. I also know she needs all the love and support we can give her. You never know the right words to say to a person during their time of grief. I really don’t believe there are any words that can take away the sorrow and grief a person feels. All we can do is let her know that we are here for her no matter what she might need. Show her we love her and offer any support we can.

If you have a moment, please say a prayer for Lady Beltane, her mother and her family.

Divine Goddess, Mother to Us All,

We come to you for my friend and sister, Lady Beltane.

We come to you to ask that You provide her with Your

Strength and comfort in this time of deep need and sorrow.

Her hurt and grief run deep.

We feel so much pain for her, but we can only imagine how

hard this time must be for her & her family.

We pray, Divine Mother, that you help her to

Stand strong in her faith during this difficult time.

Divine Goddess, Mother of Us All,

Give us the power and ability to comfort, our

dear friend.

Help us be what she need during this time,

Whether it is a shoulder to cry or just to listen.

Provide us with comforting words that will comfort

Her and ease her spirit and soul.

Let us be a symbol of Your light and comfort during

this difficult time.

May Lady Beltane always know we love her

and we are here for her.

Let her know that even though we can not

physical be with her, that we are there in spirit.

Let her know she is never alone for you,

Divine Mother are always with her as well

as us.

We ask these things for our dear friend, Lady Beltane

And her family.

We pray these things in your Divine Name,

So Mote It Be.

Before We Run……

Circle Is Open Pictures

Yes, unfortunately we are going to have to leave your good company shortly. Today has been a hairy day especially for me. I have been posting here and in the Coven. Lady Beltane’s Mother is not doing so well. She asked me yesterday if I would put some posts over there. My heart is breaking for Lady B. I lost my mother when I was very young. Mothers hold a very special place in our heart, no one can ever replace. I know Lady B and her mother are very close. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers today.

I was watching the clock as it got later, I just skipped the rest of the morning routine. I have two wonderful articles on magick. I am going to post them right after I get through here. Also I wanted to let everyone know the information about Lammas on the blog page is coming down tonight. So if there is any recipes or information, grab it. Personally, I thought it was great information(of course, I would, lol!)

Hopefully tomorrow, we will be back to normal. Keyword “hopefully!” I don’t know how the doctors are in your state but here they will not call in a controlled substance to the pharmacist. So I have to drive 50 miles for my ex to pick up his prescription. Then they told me I wouldn’t be able to get it filled till tomorrow. I swear, all this is due to new state regulations. I think everybody ought to write them and tell them what they think of their “new regulations.” Oh, only those in Kentucky! Just kidding but the government is a little pathetic on some things that is for sure.

Well if I don’t hush, I won’t never get those articles on and get out of here. Remember if you want anything from the blog page, get it. I have some work to do on the site tonight and that is part of it. I hope everyone has a very blessed weekend. Till tomorrow, my sweets……

Love ya,

Lady A

Get Well Soon Comments
Good Saturday Morning, my precious family! How is everyone doing? I hope great, enjoying this heat, swimming in those pools, hey, its’ Summer.

I have some serious news to share with you this morning. I have been out of town for a few days and found out about this yesterday. I feel like a total heel. I don’t know if you visit Coven Life or not. It is an off-shoot of the WOTC and is hosted by Lady Beltane. I was informed yesterday that her mother had taken a rather severe fall. She has been hospitalized and at that time she was awaiting surgery. I received another email today and Lady Beltane told me she was doing much better. Lady B said she wasn’t as worried about her as she was. I would take it her mother is making good progress. Since Lady B is a part of our family and we do our best to come together when something like this happens. I would like for you to light a candle and say a prayer for Lady B’s mother and her entire family. I know she will appreciate all the prayers, blessings, love and healing sent her way.

Please take a moment to say our little prayer with us…

God and Goddess
Grant Lady Beltane’s Mother healing
Of body, mind, heart and spirit
Bless her doctors and nurses as they
Care for her.
Give them the knowledge and skill to
Make her whole once again.
Send your healing energy
So Lady Beltane’s mother can make
A full and speedy recovery.
Soothe what is painful, bless her with
Your Love and Comfort as we send
Healing energies her way.
So Mote It Be

Lady B, we love you and if you need anything at all, don’t hesitate to ask.

Gods – OgmaCeltic God c.2015

Ogma

Celtic God

In Irish-Celtic myth, Ogma is the god of eloquence and learning. He is the son of the goddess Danu and the god Dagda, and one of the foremost members of the Tuatha Dé Danann. He is the reputed inventor of the ancient Ogham alphabet which is used in the earliest Irish writings.

In the final battle at Mag Tuireadh he managed to take away the sword of the king of the Fomorians, but had to pay with his life for this feat. His Celtic equivalent is Ogmios.

Ogma or Oghma is a character from Irish mythology. A member of the Tuatha Dé Danann, he is often considered a deity and may be related to the Gaulish god Ogmios.

He fights in the first battle of Mag Tuired, when the Tuatha Dé take Ireland from the Fir Bolg. Under the reign of Bres, when the Tuatha Dé are reduced to servitude, Ogma is forced to carry firewood, but nonetheless is the only one of the Tuatha Dé who proves his athletic and martial prowess in contests before the king. When Bres is overthrown and Nuadu restored, Ogma is his champion. His position is threatened by the arrival of Lugh at the court, so Ogma challenges him by lifting and hurling a great flagstone, which normally required eighty oxen to move it, out of Tara, but Lugh answers the challenge by hurling it back. When Nuadu hands command of the Battle of Mag Tuired to Lugh, Ogma becomes Lugh’s champion, and promises to repel the Fomorian king, Indech, and his bodyguard, and to defeat a third of the enemy. During the battle he finds Orna, the sword of the Fomorian king Tethra, which recounts the deeds done with it when unsheathed. During the battle Ogma and Indech fall in single combat, although there is some confusion in the texts as in Cath Maige Tuired Ogma, Lugh and the Dagda pursue the Fomorians after the battle to recover the harp of Uaitne, the Dagda’s harper.

He often appears as a triad with Lugh and the Dagda, who are sometimes collectively known as the trí dée dána or three gods of skill, although that designation is elsewhere applied to other groups of characters. His father is Elatha and his mother is usually given as Ethliu, sometimes as Étaín. His sons include Delbaeth and Tuireann. He is said to have invented the Ogham alphabet, which is named after him.

Scholars of Celtic mythology have proposed that Ogma represents the vestiges of an ancient Celtic god. By virtue of his battle prowess and invention of Ogham, he is compared with Ogmios, a Gaulish deity associated with eloquence and equated with Herakles. J. A. MacCulloch compares Ogma’s epithet grianainech (sun-face) with Lucian’s description of the “smiling face” of Ogmios, and suggests Ogma’s position as champion of the Tuatha Dé Danann may derive “from the primitive custom of rousing the warriors’ emotions by eloquent speeches before a battle”, although this is hardly supported by the texts. Scholars such Rudolf Thurneysen and Anton van Hamel dispute any link between Ogma and Ogmios.

*
A Proto-Indo-European root *og-mo– ‘furrow, track, incised line’ may be the origin of the stem of the name. In addition, Proto-Celtic had a causative verbal suffix *-ej– ~ *-īj-. A hypothetical Proto-Celtic *Ogm-īj-o-sogm-. This agent noun would therefore mean ‘furrow-maker, incisor’ and may have had a metaphorical sense of ‘impresser.’ therefore looks very much like an agent noun derived from a verb formed by the addition of this causative suffix to the stem *

The Irish god of writing, eloquence and poetry. Ogma was credited of being inventor of the Celtic writing systems that the Druids used for their magic. These scripts were known as Ogham.

Ogma was the son of Dagda and the goddess Danu. Some other writers say that Ogma and Dagda were brothers; in this version they were the sons of Eithne. Ogma had also being called the son of Elatha, the king of the Fomorians.

Ogma was one the seven champions in the First Battle of Moytura (Mag Tuired), but when Bres became the king of Tuatha dé Danann, Ogma was degraded into working on humiliating manual job of gathering firewood.
When Lugh went to Nuada, asking for a place to serve the king, Ogma seemed to be Nuada’s foremost fighter. During the second battle of Moytura, Ogma had killed one of the Fomorian leaders, named Indech, the son of Domnu.

Ogma had married Etain, the daughter of Dian Cécht. Ogma had a son named Caipre. Some say that he was the father of MacCuill, MacCecht and MacGrené (MacGrene), the three Danann kings who ruled Ireland, during the Milesian invasion, though other say that Neit was their father.
To the Celtic Gauls he was called Ogmios. According to both Gallic and Irish myths Ogma was a warrior god, depicted as a wrinkled old man, wearing lion’s skin cloak, carrying a bow and club. The Romans considered Ogmios as the Celtic equivalent of Hercules (Greek Heracles). They also depicting Ogimos as holding people chained to his tongue by their ears, to indicate he was the god of eloquence and poetry.
