Day of the Bull – Beginning of Taurus

Color: Green
Element: Earth
Altar: Set with green cloth, many stones, bulls’ horns, an earthenware bowl of soil with grass growing in it, an earthenware pitcher of barley water or beer, and a spade for digging earth.
Offerings: Seeds to be sown in the following week. Young trees to be transplanted. Do something that demands great physical strength and endurance.
Daily meal: Beef or veal. Salad vegetables and greens. Coarse whole-grain bread. Milk, cheese, yoghurt, butter, or ice cream from cow milk.

Invocation to Taurus

Great Bull of the North,
Lover of the green fields,
Sturdy as bedrock,
Ox who pulls the plow,
Friend of the peasant worker,
Whose gift is Strength,
Bless us with the ability
To endure anything without crumbling,
And never break
No matter how heavy the burden. By the power of all that is valued,
You challenge us
To be constant and enduring
In our commitments,
Never allowing Time
To wear away our vows.
May we go forth in wealth
Of our own making.

Chant:
Under the earth
Under the ground
Is the heart of Gaea found.

(All shall receive spades and go outside into the garden, and all shall dig trenches, or beds, or any other thing necessary, in silence together. This shall happen even if the weather is bad, as the spirit of Taurus does not flinch from rain and mud. As each digs, they shall meditate upon the nature of the dirt, and how it is made, and that they shall return to it someday.)

Little drops of water,
Little grains of sand,
Make the mighty ocean
And the pleasant land.

Little deeds of kindness,

Happy & Blessed Friday to all my special friends!

Friday Images, Pics, Comments, Graphics
I hope you are having a fantastic Friday. You should be, the weekend is almost here. I bet you are counting down the seconds, minutes and hours till the workday is over!

I wanted to mention something real quick. You probably see it everyday and just have got use to seeing the PayPal donation button. I know that is the way I am. I see things and see things and just think of them as normal. But I have changed the message on the button. I am a very proud witch but I desperately need your help. I have mentioned it before I am permanently disabled. I cannot hold down any job. In fact, it pains me to sit at the computer everyday. I get the laptop and move from one position to the next, just to get comfortable. I have had two back surgeries. The first one was a total screw-up. The second, the doctor was a miracle worker. He took out all three levels of my lower back on both sides. What I mean by this is, he took out every disc I had left from the first surgery. Then he took wire cages and screws and actually screwed my spine in the shape it should be. I thought he was kidding but he showed me the screwdriver afterwards with blood on it. Good Goddess! Then after he got all that in place, he took bone material and spread it over all the cages. This was to make me have a solid spine. Before I could feel bone rubbing on bone. Now, I feel nothing. The cages are holding the disc’s place apart and keeping that part of my spine from moving.

Recovery from that surgery was pure hell. The pain,I have never felt anything like it. It was undescribable. To top everything off, the doctor had nicked my spinal cord and they weren’t sure I would walk. Well I have an amazing Goddess, I am walking. After the pain went away and I went to my neurologist. He put me on medication (tons of it) to keep me pain-free. The medication I need to function as a human.

My problem is a very big one and I need your help. You know yourself, I never ask you for anything. I am a proud witch and person. But I need you now. My A/C unit is out. I turned it on the other day for a minute. I went outside to check on the animals. When I came back in the house was full of smoke. The A/C unit was about to burn the house down. It is 12 years old, so I guess it is time for it to go. I told you my life story were you would understand I cannot take the heat. I am not supposed to be out in the sun at all while taking my meds. When I do get in a hot situation, I get deathly ill.

I need your help because the A/C unit is out. I am desperate, depressed and to the point of tears. Will you please help get my A/C unit fixed or replaced?

Please!

Cerealia: Persephone’s Return

Color: Green
Element: Earth
Altar: Upon a green cloth set as many spring flowers as possible, a bowl of earth saved from the day of Persephone’s descent, and the figure of a girl’s head emerging from the earth.
Offering: Flowers. Begin something new.
Daily Meal: Dark, coarse bread. Root vegetables. Poppy seeds. Millet. Nuts and seeds.

Invocation to Persephone’s Return

Let the Earth take joy!
Demeter’s heart is warmed,
For her beloved daughter,
The maiden of Spring,
Has returned to the upper world!
Let all upon the Earth take joy!
Flowers spring from her footsteps,
Grass spreads between her toes,
The promise of the summer wind
Falls like butterflies newly loosed
From her hair the color of poppies and clay.
Let us all take joy!
She who descended in the autumn,
She who is married to Death
And yet arises in the bringing of Life,
She who has passed the bodies
Of a thousand corpses,
She who has sung with the shades
Of a thousand ancestors,
She rises to greet the morning sun
For as long as it is her time.
Then, like all things, she will descend again,
Into the depths of the Earth,
And we, we shall learn to love that cycle
Of rising and falling, of birth and death,
And truly call it a blessing.
Chant:
Kore Kore Kore Proserpina
(Let one chosen for the work of the daily ritual carry the bowl of earth from person to person about the hall, and let each one take a bit of the earth and rub it on their faces, and let it remain until the evening ablutions.)

Just A Little Note From The Witch’s Desk……

Book & Candle Comments I have everything and its brother on my desk except the skull, lol! Didn’t want you to get the wrong impression. But, of course, if you have put up with me this long, no telling what kind of impression you have of me, lmao! Enough with that foolishness, now on to what I want to actually say. If you remember I made a post a few days ago concerning whether or not you would like to have a daily Tarot lesson or Rune lesson. These lessons would take the place of the Special Critters that I now post everyday. Well I got a good response on the subject. No one was interested in the Rune lessons. There was an equal response on the Special Critters and Tarot lessons, however. Since this occurred, I am going to continue to post the Special Critters as always. After them, there will be a Tarot lesson posted. I figure this is only fair to everyone. If you enjoy something, I don’t want to take it away from you. For the Tarot Lessons, I will be using the Rider-Waite deck, in case you would like to follow along. I believe the first day I am going to start with a brief history on the deck. Then afterwards, I will take each card one by one, put it’s image up and the meaning of the card. When we work our way through the deck. We will then go to the spreads. There we will discuss what each spread means and also what the placements of the cards means in the respective spots. I truly hope you enjoy this. I ask that you please have patience with me. I have never done anything like this before and hopefully all will go smooth.

Oh, I almost forgot, over in the category section of the site, there will be a Tarot Lesson section. Just in case you miss a card, you won’t have to dig through the daily posts to find it.

Magickal Kitty of the Day for April 19th (Love this one!)

Bella, the Cat of the Day
Name: Bella
Age: Six years old
Gender: Female
Kind: European Short Hair
Home: Vicenza, Italy
This black beauty is our Bella. And this is Bella’s story. Bella was a cat that was abandoned in the corn fields behind our house. She was only about six or seven months old when she started coming around. She was tiny and thin so I decided to start leaving food out for her as she sure could use it. She was super skittish and would watch me from under the terrace when I would bring her food out. She would wait until I had left and she heard the door close before she would come out to eat. She was ok with me watching her from the window even if the window was opened. After several weeks she started showing up at random times and would jump up into the kitchen window to let me know she was hungry and to greet my cat Vixen who has since gone on to the rainbow bridge. Over about a three month period she got less skittish and allowed me to stay near her while she ate. She even started playing with a catnip mouse and would approach me to give me headbumps against the leg and rub against me but would not allow me totouch her. By the way, she named herself. I would always say to her ‘ciao bella’ which means ‘hello pretty’ in Italian. One day she started coming to me when I would say it. So, by the time I could touch her it was too late … she was with kitten.

She was only ten months old when she had her four babies. She had them outside under our terrace in a window well for the basement window. We allowed her to remain with them outside for a little while as they were in a safe, warm and dry place. Once they started opening their eyes we brought them all inside. I set up my husband’s work studio for them. Everything progressed fine and we found the babies great homes. All but a little blue boy which we decided to keep the moment we saw him. Bella was spayed and introduced to the household which consisted of my beautiful RB baby girl Vixen, another black rescue named Phoenix and our border collie puppy Artica. She smoothly slipped into the family. She has been with us ever since.

Bella is a dream. She rarely makes a sound except to purr. She wants no part of outdoors aside from watching the birds through the windows who she will chatter to quietly. She gets along with our now large furfamily very well. She loves the warmth of the marble window sills in the winter when the heat has warmed it. And she must sleep on my pillow every night. Bella thoroughly enjoys her comfort and has become the perfect house cat. Hard to believe that she was the same scared, shy, skittish kitten that showed up here one day. She was smart though as she knew this was the place to come to get her tummy filled and lots of unending love.

Precious Pup of the Day for April 19th

Cupid, the Dog of the Day
Name: Cupid
Age: Two years old
Gender: Male Breed: Chihuahua, Papillon
Home: Golden Meadow, Louisiana, USA
I came to meet Cupid through a good friend of mine. She said her dog was pregnant and thought about me right away. She knew of my love for dogs and thought I would be a great choice for one of her dog’s pups. I couldn’t wait to choose my pup when they were born. My dad said I could have one but it had to be a girl because boys have a tendency to be territorial. I was fine with that because I just really wanted my own dog. The pups would be Chihuahua/Papillon mixes.

The day they were born, I received a picture from my friend with all the pups. I was so excited and couldn’t wait to get the call that I was allowed to go pick one out. When my friend called me, I rushed right over to choose one. I played with each pup, but none really sparked a relationship with me. Then I noticed one of the pups crying and strayed away from the rest. I picked him up, and fell in love with him. I noticed he had a heart spot on his side and instantly gave him the name Cupid.

I begged my parents to let me get the male I fell in love with. They ended up giving in with the agreement that I had to pay for his vet bills and to train him. When I knew Cupid was mine, I couldn’t wait til the day he came home.

My friend dropped off Cupid to me when he was six weeks old – five days after my boyfriend and I made our relationship official. He was the tiniest, cutest thing I’ve ever seen.

Two years later, I couldn’t love him anymore than I already do. He loves to cuddle with me, play with his favorite toy, and tows his blanket everywhere he goes. He’s the sweetest pup who loves to give kisses to anyone he meets. He acts like he’s so tough sometimes, but at the same time is scared of bugs.

I don’t know where I would be without this dog now that I’ve known what life is like with him. He’s always there to listen. He knows when I am upset. He knows when I am sick. He will be the best nurse and take care of you if you’re sick-by “take care” I mean, he naps with you and never leaves your side.

After getting to know his personality, his name does suit him. He makes everyone he meet fall in love with him. Instead of arrows, though, he has kisses!

Is There Plastic In My Food?

Is There Plastic In My Food?

  • Katie Waldeck

Plastics are everywhere. They’re in our homes, clothes, cars, toys, and, alarmingly, they’re on our dinner plates. Researchers have confirmed that potentially harmful chemicals from plastics are in the nation’s food supply, which make their way into the human body.

A study published in Environmental Health Perspectives named plastic food packaging as a major source for these chemicals. Families were given food that was certifiably plastic-free for three days, and researchers compared the levels of chemicals found in plastic in their bodies.

The results were astounding: participants saw an average 2/3 drop in the levels of bisphenol A (BPA) present in their bodies. The controversial chemical has been linked in higher rates of cancer, heart disease, and a variety of reproductive health issues. Though BPA is banned in Canada, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recently rejected a ban on the chemical.

The FDA’s system of measuring the concentration of chemicals is a major cause for concern here — in short, it doesn’t stack up with the decades of scientific research that shows even the lowest amounts of BPA can affect the human body.

Moreover, the FDA relies on manufacturers to self-report their initial data about their products, many components of which aren’t manufactured by the manufacturers themselves. These results aren’t made public.

As Janet Nudelman of the Breast Cancer Fund told the Washington Post, “It doesn’t make sense to regulate the safety of food and then put the food in an unsafe package.”

10 Ways to Get Plastic Out of Your Kitchen

10 Ways to Get Plastic Out of Your Kitchen

  • Becky Striepe

Earth day is right around the corner–what better time to take a hard look at your plastic consumption?

Plastics seem to invade every aspect of our lives, and the kitchen is no exception. From cooking to storage to packing food for on the go, there are places that we can ditch the plastic in favor of safer, more Earth-friendly materials. This Earth Day, take some time to inventory the plastic in your kitchen and see if your kitchen can go plastic free. What a great way to make your Earth day action last the whole year!

Plastic is no good for the planet, and it’s no good for people, either. Plastic pollution is a serious environmental problem. It pollutes our waterways, causing ocean dead zones and killing countless numbers of aquatic life. You don’t want plastic coming in contact with your food, either, especially hot or acidic foods. Plastic cooking utensils and food storage containers can leach toxins into the food that it touches. No, thank you!

Luckily, there are lots of simple ways to get plastic out of your cooking processes. One word of caution: if you’re getting rid of plastic that you already have, like ladels or tupperware, see if you can come up with crafty or creative ways to reuse them elsewhere, rather than sending them to the landfill. That plastic still exists, even if it’s not in your home!

Ready to ditch the plastic in your kitchen? Here are 10 tips to get you going!

1. Store your food in glass or metal. Instead of plastic Tupperware containers, chose metal or glass food storage. Glass Mason jars are great for storing bulk items like beans, grains, and nuts. You can also check retailers like The Container Store. I’ve seen some great glass and metal food storage options there.

2. No more baggies! When you’re packing lunch, choose reusable glass or metal containers instead of plastic baggies or plastic Tupperware containers.

3. Choose reusable. You don’t need plastic forks and spoons in your lunchbox! Grab metal utensils from your own utensil drawer instead.

4. Get rid of plastic cooking utensils. Ditch the plastic tools like spatulas and serving spoons in favor of metal ones.

5. Skip the processed food and produce in plastic bags. Processed food almost always means disposable plastic packaging, so choose whole foods wherever you can. When you’re hitting the produce section, don’t buy fruits and veggies in plastic wrap or those plastic mesh bags.

6. Forget bottled water. Chances are you already don’t buy bottled water, but just in case there are any hold outs out there, this is a no-brainer. Bottled water is expensive and the plastic bottles are unhealthy. Choose filtered tap water in a reusable glass or BPA free metal bottle instead.

7. Bring your own bag to the grocery store. You probably also already have reusable grocery bags, but what about when you’re in the bulk or produce aisle? Skip the single-use plastic bags in favor of reusable produce bags instead.

8. Buy dishwasher detergent that comes in a cardboard box. Dishwasher detergent often comes in a plastic container. Skip the plastic and opt for the powdered stuff in a cardboard box. Even better? Make your own dishwasher detergent!

9. Make your own dish soap. No need to buy dish soap in a plastic bottle, either. You can make your own dish soap at home! I know, the Dr. Bronner’s in this recipe comes in a plastic bottle, but many co-ops offer bulk refills of Dr. Bronner’s, so at least you only have to buy the one bottle. If anyone has suggestions for getting around this one, I’d love to hear them!

10. Skip the nonstick. Did you know that the nonstick coating on pots and pans is actually plastic? Instead of nonstick, choose cast iron or stainless steel so you can cook plastic free!

Six Ways to Honor Mother Earth on Her Day

By Barry Dennis

Earth Day is the day when millions of people in 172 countries all over the globe share their appreciation for our beautiful planet. What are you giving back to the earth this year?

You might believe that one person can’t do a lot. But if we take the time to change a few small behaviors, we can make a difference collectively.

Here are six ways to be part of that effort.

Precycle before you recycle.

Precycling is the art of returning a thing to the earth before it was even taken, saving our resources and creating a brighter future. What kinds of things can you precycle? How about bottled water or plastic grocery bags? You can drink water out of a reusable water bottle, and pack your groceries in a reusable cloth bag. You’ve just precycled, preventing two plastic items from ending up in the refuse stream. Less demand for these items leads to less production.

Flick a switch.

This is simple. Begin to make it a habit to turn off the lights whenever you are leaving a room. Turn off the water when brushing or even while soaping up in the shower, then turn it back on to rinse off. Turn off your car ignition when you’re waiting for someone. Every time you flick the switch, you are also flicking a switch in your brain that helps to reinforce the behavior and turn it into a good habit—the habit of conserving.

If it ain’t broke, don’t replace it.

Before upgrading to the newest iPhone or a bigger-model flat-screen TV, ask yourself if it will make your life better than if you simply kept the model you already have. Take a moment to really visualize all the earth’s resources it took to make these items. You could save some of earth’s resources by simply waiting six months or a year before replacing something old with something new. At the end of that time, assess whether the quality of your life was seriously compromised by hanging on to that older model.

Change the demand.

Our system of supply and demand is a good thing. That is, when we demand goods that are actually, well, good—good for our health, our home, and our planet. By bringing greater awareness to what we consume, we change the demand that must create a new supply. Consider organic food, which does not use pesticides or hormones. These are not only better for our home planet, they are also healthier for our “home bodies.” Increasing the demand will change our common agricultural practices so the supply naturally shifts for all our benefit.

Want what you already have.

We sometimes think that “stuff” will make us happy, like a shiny new car or another pair of shoes. But who and what really makes you happy: your pets, your family, your friends? Your work, your leisure activities, your home? Right. This Earth Day, think about those you love, as well as the things around you that make your life easier, more fun, or more comfortable. Give thanks for all that you have, instead of wanting more.

Declutter your life.

In celebration of Earth Day, walk around your house and get rid of everything that’s not useful or healthful. Go through your bathroom, closets, drawers, kitchen cupboards, garage, basement, porch, and yard. Recycle everything you can, and donate the rest. Cleaning up your immediate environment will make you feel happier. Keep your empty space empty. The earth will thank you.

Your Cosmic Calendar for Thursday, April 19th

On the second day of April, Ceres formed a fairly rare polarity with Saturn. These two celestial bodies – in combination – have a lot to do with childhood issues, parental figures, and overall family dynamics. Yesterday, Ceres formed a contra-parallel to Saturn and now the Moon is contra-parallel Saturn (2:13AM PDT) and parallel to Ceres (2:47AM PDT) while Mars trines Ceres (3:29AM PDT). Make sure troubled relatives and dear ones have your full support and are out of harm’s way. Communication channels and travel plans are more up-in-the-air than stable as Mercury makes a frictional, 45-degree link to giant Jupiter (6:45AM PDT). It may not help matters that Mercury forms a 30-degree contact with dreamy and yet often confusing Neptune (8:06AM PDT). The Sun shifts gears from fiery Aries to earthy Taurus (9:13AM PDT) for a new 30-day experience in the second sign of the zodiac. Take some of your best ideas and start planting them in fertile soil in the hope of harvesting financial rewards. Your creative artistic expression has a promising glow as the Moon makes a supportive, 60-degree rapport with Venus (11:41AM PDT). Worries and doubts may be temporarily in the driver’s seat overnight as the dark-of-the-moon monthly cycle – where the Sun-Moon phase is at its extreme waning point – is gathering momentum.

Yahoo! It’s Thursday! I’m so excited here’s today’s affirmation, thought & meditation!

Hello Images, Pics, Comments, Graphics
Today’s Affirmation for Thursday, April 19th

The well-worn path is comfortable and easy; but leads nowhere. The less-travelled path is stony and hard, but will bring me to peace.

Today’s Thought for Thursday, April 19th

To give of one’s self, to leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch, or a redeemed social condition — to know that even one life has breathed easier because you have lived — this is to have succeeded.

Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803 – 1882)

Today’s Meditation for Thursday, April 19th

Karmic Laws

Within many wisdom paths is the belief that life is governed by karma — the spiritual law of cause and effect. This law states that our actions in this life dictate the rewards we will receive in the next. Close your eyes and spend a few minutes considering how your actions impact on your own life and the lives of those around you. How would your life differ if you strived to be kind, generous and thoughtful at all times? Good karma depends upon pure intentions, so it is important to try to release any thoughts of self-gain as a result of your good actions. Resolve that from now on you will make an effort to respond to all situations, whether easy or difficult, with consideration for others and generosity of spirit.

Just In – ‘American Bandstand’ Host Dick Clark Has Died

‘American Bandstand’ Host Dick Clark Has Died

BY LYNN ELBER,AP Television Writer

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Dick Clark, the ever-youthful television host and tireless entrepreneur who helped bring rock ‘n’ roll into the mainstream on “American Bandstand,” and later produced and hosted a vast range of programming from game shows to the year-end countdown from Times Square on “New Year’s Rockin’ Eve,” has died. He was 82.

Spokesman Paul Shefrin said Clark had a heart attack Wednesday morning at Saint John’s hospital in Santa Monica, a day after he was admitted for an outpatient procedure.

Clark had continued performing even after he suffered a stroke in 2004 that affected his ability to speak and walk.

The world’s oldest teenager

Long dubbed “the world’s oldest teenager” because of his boyish appearance, Clark bridged the rebellious new music scene and traditional show business, and equally comfortable whether chatting about music with Sam Cooke or bantering with Ed McMahon about TV bloopers. He thrived as the founder of Dick Clark Productions, supplying movies, game and music shows, beauty contests and more to TV. Among his credits: “The $25,000 Pyramid,” ”TV’s Bloopers and Practical Jokes” and the American Music Awards.

For a time in the 1980s, he had shows on all three networks and was listed among the Forbes 400 of wealthiest Americans. Clark also was part of radio as partner in the United Stations Radio Network, which provided programs — including Clark’s — to thousands of stations.

“There’s hardly any segment of the population that doesn’t see what I do,” Clark told The Associated Press in a 1985 interview. “It can be embarrassing. People come up to me and say, ‘I love your show,’ and I have no idea which one they’re talking about.”

The original “American Bandstand” was one of network TV’s longest-running series as part of ABC’s daytime lineup from 1957 to 1987. It later aired for a year in syndication and briefly on the USA Network. Over the years, it introduced stars ranging from Buddy Holly to Madonna. The show’s status as an American cultural institution was solidified when Clark donated Bandstand’s original podium and backdrop to the Smithsonian Institution.

Clark joined “Bandstand” in 1956 after Bob Horn, who’d been the host since its 1952 debut, was fired. Under Clark’s guidance, it went from a local Philadelphia show to a national phenomenon.

“I played records, the kids danced, and America watched,” was how Clark once described the series’ simplicity. In his 1958 hit “Sweet Little Sixteen,” Chuck Berry sang that “they’ll be rocking on Bandstand, Philadelphia, P-A.”

As a host, he had the smooth delivery of a seasoned radio announcer. As a producer, he had an ear for a hit record. He also knew how to make wary adults welcome this odd new breed of music in their homes.

Clark endured accusations that he was in with the squares, with critic Lester Bangs defining Bandstand as “a leggily acceptable euphemism of the teenage experience.” In a 1985 interview, Clark acknowledged the complaints. “But I knew at the time that if we didn’t make the presentation to the older generation palatable, it could kill it.”

“So along with Little Richard and Chuck Berry and the Platters and the Crows and the Jayhawks … the boys wore coats and ties and the girls combed their hair and they all looked like sweet little kids into a high school dance,” he said.

Fought censorship

But Clark defended pop artists and artistic freedom, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame said in an online biography of the 1993 inductee. He helped give black artists their due by playing original R&B recordings instead of cover versions by white performers, and he condemned censorship.

His stroke in December 2004 forced him to miss his annual appearance on “Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve.” He returned the following year and, although his speech at times was difficult to understand, many praised his bravery, including other stroke victims.

Still speaking with difficulty, he continued taking part in his New Year’s shows, though in a diminished role. Ryan Seacrest became the main host.

“I’m just thankful I’m still able to enjoy this once-a-year treat,” he told The Associated Press by e-mail in December 2008 as another New Year’s Eve approached.

He was honored at the Emmy Awards in 2006, telling the crowd: “I have accomplished my childhood dream, to be in show business. Everybody should be so lucky to have their dreams come true. I’ve been truly blessed.”

He was born Richard Wagstaff Clark in Mount Vernon, N.Y., in 1929. His father, Richard Augustus Clark, was a sales manager who worked in radio.

Clark idolized his athletic older brother, Bradley, who was killed in World War II. In his 1976 autobiography, “Rock, Roll & Remember,” Clark recalled how radio helped ease his loneliness and turned him into a fan of Steve Allen, Arthur Godfrey and other popular hosts.

From Godfrey, he said, he learned that “a radio announcer does not talk to ‘those of you out there in radio land’; a radio announcer talks to me as an individual.”

Clark began his career in the mailroom of a Utica, N.Y., radio station in 1945. By age 26, he was a broadcasting veteran, with nine years’ experience on radio and TV stations in Syracuse and Utica, N.Y., and Philadelphia. He held a bachelor’s degree from Syracuse University. While in Philadelphia, Clark befriended McMahon, who later credited Clark for introducing him to his future “Tonight Show” boss, Johnny Carson.

In the 1960s, “American Bandstand” moved from black-and-white to color, from weekday broadcasts to once-a-week Saturday shows and from Philadelphia to Los Angeles. Although its influence started to ebb, it still featured some of the biggest stars of each decade, whether Janis Joplin, the Jackson 5, Talking Heads or Prince. But Clark never did book two of rock’s iconic groups, the Beatles and the Rolling Stones. Elvis Presley also never performed, although Clark managed an on-air telephone interview while Presley was in the Army.

Remembering Michael Jackson

When Michael Jackson died in June 2009, Clark recalled working with him since he was a child, adding, “of all the thousands of entertainers I have worked with, Michael was THE most outstanding. Many have tried and will try to copy him, but his talent will never be matched.”

Clark kept more than records spinning with his Dick Clark Productions. Its credits included the Academy of Country Music and Golden Globe awards; TV movies including the Emmy-winning “The Woman Who Willed a Miracle” (1984), the “$25,000 Pyramid” game show and the 1985 film “Remo Williams: The Adventure Begins.” Clark himself made a cameo on “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” and a dramatic appearance as a witness on the original “Perry Mason.” He was an involuntary part of Michael Moore’s Academy Award-winning “Bowling for Columbine,” in which Clark is seen brushing off Moore as the filmmaker confronts him about working conditions at a restaurant owned by Clark.

In 1974, at ABC’s request, Clark created the American Music Awards after the network lost the broadcast rights to the Grammy Awards.

He was also an author, with “Dick Clark’s American Bandstand” and such self-help books as “Dick Clark’s Program for Success in Your Business and Personal Life” and “Looking Great, Staying Young.” His unchanging looks inspired a joke in “Peggy Sue Gets Married,” the 1986 comedy starring Kathleen Turner as an unhappy wife and mother transported back to 1960. Watching Clark on a black and white TV set, she shakes her head in amazement, “Look at that man, he never ages.”

Clark’s clean-cut image survived a music industry scandal. In 1960, during a congressional investigation of “payola” or bribery in the record and radio industry, Clark was called on to testify.

He was cleared of any suspicions but was required by ABC to divest himself of record-company interests to avoid any appearance of a conflict of interest. The demand cost him $8 million, Clark once estimated. His holdings included partial ownership of Swan Records, which later released the first U.S. version of the Beatles’ smash “She Loves You.”

In 2004, Clark announced plans for a revamped version of “American Bandstand.” The show, produced with “American Idol” creator Simon Fuller, was to feature a host other than Clark.

He was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes in 1994 and served as spokesman for the American Association of Diabetes Educators.

Clark, twice divorced, had a son, Richard Augustus II, with first wife Barbara Mallery and two children, Duane and Cindy, with second wife Loretta Martin. He married Kari Wigton in 1977.

Christian Witchcraft: What it means to me.

Christian Witchcraft: What it means to me.

Author: Pall Tryggr Ageirr

Keep in mind that I am still a seeker, but I believe that I have found a path that speaks to me. Combining my belief in Jesus Christ, and the comforting Holy Spirit (though I see the Holy Spirit in a feminine aspect and as such refer to her as the Mother Holy Spirit, or lady Holy Spirit) , With Pagan ideologies and practices. More specifically I am interested in general Paganism, The Greek Pantheon, The Nordic and Celtic traditions, Wiccan theology, beliefs, and practices, Native American Spirituality/Shamanism, and the art and practice of magick. I am also interested in the Jewish Qabbala and Gnosticism (an unorthodox sect of Christianity that was systematically stamped out by early fundamentalist.)

In essence I am an eclectic since I combine belief systems. I prefer the to label myself as a seeking eclectic Christian Witch, since we as humans have this condition to want to label everything. I grew up in a heavily Christian background, but I questioned a lot of it, and I always felt like other religions and spiritualities have certain truths to them. I am a subscriber to the tree theory which is as follows: The roots of the tree is the unknowable divine energy you cannot see it but you know that it is there. Then there is the tree trunk which manifests to some people as a God or a Goddess or sometimes both…it manifests to me in the form of a God and Goddess. They are two separate entities but they come from the same source – some people will tend to stop there. But if you go on up the tree to the branches that is each individual pantheon (Greek, Roman, Nordic, Celtic, Egyptian, ect.) * I believe other religions can fit on there as well – examples: Christianity, the Jewish faith, Islam, Buddhism, Taoism, ect.* and then if you go even farther to each little twig that is each individual god (s) and goddess (s) . They are all separate yet they flow into the one divine energy.

I whole heartedly believe that mainstream Christianity today is not was Jesus Christ envisioned 2,000 + years ago. I do try to read the Bible as often as possible, and I do believe that it contains good examples to try to live by, but I also believe that it has been “translated” way too many times to suit man’s political agendas of the times. I believe the early Christians after Christ died on the cross, became corrupt and tried to pervert teachings to suit their needs.

Thoughout the gospels Jesus teaches about friendship, tolerance, love and kindness. Things that I rarely see exhibited by Mainstream Christians today.

I do believe Jesus Christ was a profound teacher and a messiah, but I am also a Goddess worshipper. I worship the Mother right along with the Father. I believe in Magick, and I believe it is another valid way to attune with and interact with the divine. As well Magick is another valid form to help affect changes in my life for the better, I believe it is a gift from the divine and as such it should be utilized. I am also a nature worshipper, because divinity created nature and us, therefore nature as well as us humans contain little sparks of divinity. I am mystical, and my spiritual cup runneth over, in ways it never did wheh I was a practing Baptist Christian. I believe that if Jesus Christ was alive today then he would be the witchiest Christian Witch of them all.

When I started this path I thought Christian Witchcraft was in the minority, but as I continue with my studies and down my spiritual path of choice I find more like minded people like me everyday.

We may never be totally accepted in Pagan circles, because Pagans have been persecuted thoughout the centuries by the right-wing Fundamentalist Christians, so the mere mention of Christian influenced spirituality may send some people the wrong message. And on the reverse side, to the right-wing fundamentalist Christians we are seen as heretics, who are misusing the gospels, and who are perverted and in league with the devil because of our magickal and mystical sides. But we are here, and we follow what our hearts, minds, and spirits tell us to do, we do not care about religious dogma, instead we do what we feel is right in our hearts, we worship the God and Goddess and all of their creations and try to use all the things they have given to us. We also rely on the comforting Mother Holy Spirit in times of great sadness, and we try to strive to live by the teachings of our Savior Jesus Christ, and show everyone, Pagan or Christian, or agnostic, or atheist, or Islamic, or Buddhist – just how Christ like we are.

We are loving, and kind, and gracious, and forgiving, atleast we try to be, we are still human we are still flawed we make mistakes, but We listen to our hearts and try to do what we believe is morally right – and we never tell anyone that they are wrong for any spiritual or religious belief they may have, instead we celebrate the diversity.

This is what being a Christian Witch means to me, and I love every second of being one, I honestly have never felt more spiritually fulfilled.

I am still a seeker, yes. But arn’t we all? we should never stop learning. Each day I find something new about myself, my spirituality, and my craft.

Alot of people may not agree with what I have to say, or may not agree with my chosen blend of paths and spiritualities – but this is the blended path that has called to me and I feel this is where I am supposed to be. I do not care about religious dogma, instead I follow my heart and let my spirit and the divine energy ( the Lord and Lady, each individual God and Goddess, Jesus Christ, and the Mother Holy Spirit) Guide me to where they want me to be.
