The Wicca Book of Days for May 8 – Soothing Sage

The Wicca Book of Days for May 8

Soothing Sage

Sage not only has many mouth-watering culinary uses, but is valued by herbalists for its antibacterial and antiseptic properties. Astrogically associated with the zodiacal sign of the Bull, which prevails on May 8, sage is often used to soothe a sore throat, and it is thought that its efficacious action is at least partly due to “Taurus’ influence over the throat. So if your throat feels scratchy and raw and you are finding swallowing painful, brew a pot of sage tea (use 1 ounce of dry sage, or 2 ounce of fresh leaves, to 1 pint of boiling water) to gargle with or sip.

Miraculous Manuka?

If you are prone to sore throats invest in a pot of Manuka honey – check that it has a UMF (unique Manuka factor) rating – and you may find that it’s worth its weight in gold. For many people swear that swallowing a teaspooon or two of this New Zealand honey (neat) works wonders.

New Moon Report for May 8th – Mercury in Taurus

Mercury in Taurus

Tuesday, May 8, 10:15 pm PDT, Wednesday, May 9, 1:15 am EDT

The speedy messenger’s presence in this fixed sign slows down thinking and concentrates minds. We can focus on the basics now, helping to put ideas on a more realistic foundation. Mercury in Taurus isn’t the most creative position for this intellectual planet because it’s rooted in facts and eschews fantasy. It may also take additional time to digest new concepts that require thorough chewing before we’re ready to swallow. Trust, though, can be built with down-to-earth conversations that are grounded in simplicity and expressed with clarity. Changing others’ minds is challenging, particularly if people feel pressured to do so. Encountering resistance to new ideas from individuals or in our own minds is best overcome by subtly working around conflict rather than trying to force issues. A calm voice and easygoing approach connects more effectively than heated conversations.

Daily Cosmic Calendar for Tuesday, May 8th

This is a good point in the calendar to remind you that solar and planetary alignments don’t just disappear off the astro-psychic radar screen a day after they occur. Therefore, last night’s Jupiter-Uranus and Mars-Uranus high jinx remain a threat to everyone’s decorum and well-being today. Their potentially mischievous vibrations are somewhat diminished, but still reverberating a little below the threshold of consciousness. Fortunately, we don’t have giant-sized replacements to take their place until tomorrow when four fairly major alignments reach exactitude. For the most part, you can indulge in favorite arts, crafts, hobbies and pastimes during much of today under fiery and enthusiastic Sagittarius Moon. Communication channels are reasonably clear in the hours building up to the Moon making a flowing trine of 120-degrees to Mercury (6:35PM PDT). Once this exactly occurs, the lunar orb is void, but only for 26 minutes until 7:01PM PDT when the Moon enters industrious, hardworking Capricorn. This is a signal to be more focused on fulfilling career ambitions and energizing professional plans during the next two days. Assisting your efforts in this regard is Mercury entering earthy, persistent Taurus (10:16PM PDT) until May 24. If you are feeling a strange sense of buoyancy and even euphoria overnight, chalk it up to the approach of the mind-expanding Sun parallel Jupiter (forming precisely at 5:39AM PDT tomorrow morning).

Lemuria

Colors: Black and grey
Element: Air
Altar: Upon cloth of black and grey set a bowl of beans, nine black candles, a brazier with incense of agrimony and rue, a bottle of good wine, a bowl of clean spring water, a knotted rope, a bowl of asafoetida, and a skull.
Offerings: None. This is a banishing. All carry cymbals, drums, or noisemakers.
Daily Meal: Goat meat. Beans.

Lemuria Invocation

(First the one who has been chosen to do the work of the ritual stands forth, takes the knotted rope from the altar, and unknots it, and throws it into the brazier.)

Call: Shades of those who have gone before us!
Ghosts and demons, inside us and outside,
Hear us!
Response: We cast you out! We drive you before us!
Call: Begone from house and hearth,
Begone from mind and heart,
Begone from roost and stall,
Begone from field and garden,
Begone from path and road,
Begone from all places
Where you might harry us!
We scatter you before us on the wind!
Response: We cast you out! We drive you before us!

(The officiant makes the sign of the ficus towards the west, and all follow in turn. Then the officiant washes their hands in the clear spring water, and brings the bowl to all, who wash in turn. The water is poured out in the libation well. Then the beans are passed around, and all take a handful or a mouthful. Each spits or throws the beans in a different direction.)

Call: Hace ego mitto, his redime meque meosque fabis!
Response: Manes exite paterni! Manes exite paterni! Manes exite paterni!

(All walk through the house and around the boundaries of the property, clashing cymbals and beating drums and making noise to drive away all evil spirits. This ritual repeats for three days, only on odd-numbered days, which are luckier than even-numbered days.)

Frigga’s Blot

Color: White and blue
Element: Air
Altar: Upon cloth of white and blue set twelve white candles, one sky-blue candle, a great jug of mead, and a drop spindle full of handspun yarn. Throughout the next twelve days, the altar stays the same, and one more candle is lit. On this day, light only the blue one.
Offering: Learn to spin. Bring harmony to some place that needs it. Do things correctly.
Daily Meal: Soup or stew. Bread with cheese, meat, or jam.

Invocation to Frigga

We call you, Frigga, from your misty halls at Fensalir,
All-knowing Queen, norn-wise,
Odhinn’s loved companion, splendid queen of tribes,
Blessed in triumph, binding folk together.
Lover of your people, lady bright-minded,
Bridler of kin-strife, bourne of kin-mindfulness.
Protector and peaceweaver, friendly goddess:
Your blessings give to us, to babies and brave ones,
Great-hearted queen, holding secret counsel
With god-loving soothsayers; to the wise-minded
Giving rede and wisdom, discretion and prudence.
Key-keeper mighty, in your starry cape,
You know there is no tongue in which to tell
Of all that is and that shall be;
To sort the spinning strands of possibility
Into a span of words,
Yet with your spindle and your well-strung loom
You weave the airy clouds
And send the winds to shape them,
Writing your wordless wisdom-runes
In the ever-changing valleys of the sky.
(Adapted from Winifred Hodge)

Chant:
Cloth of honor from the thread of truth
Weave your heart into all you offer

(The drop spindle of yarn is passed around from person to person, and each speaks of how they intend to bring frith – order, harmony, and correctness – to some aspect of their lives. Then some mead is poured out as a libation to Frigga, saying, “Hail, Lady of Frith!” The rest is placed back on the altar for tomorrow’s ritual.)

Current Moon Phase for May 7th – Full Moon (Waning)

Moon Phases: Full Moon

(waning/180-135 degrees)

by Jan Spiller

A veil of self-absorption is lifted and suddenly you gain access to an unbiased view of others. This is a rare moment when you can see yourself objectively and become aware of whether or not what you want in your heart is actually beginning to manifest in your life. Traditionally, the Full Moon phase stirs emotion, and this is because when you “see” what is happening, you may become upset if you’re experiencing the “same ole, same ole” — rather than the things you would like. If the Full Moon phase is a disappointment, on the next New Moon it’s time to take creative action in the direction of your dreams.

The Law

We are of the Old Ways, among those who walk with the
Goddess and God and receive Their love.

Keep the Sabbats and Esbats to the best of your
abilities, for to do otherwise is to lessen your connection
with the Goddess and God.

Harm none. This, the oldest law, is not open to
interpretation or change.

Shed not blood in ritual; the Goddess and God need not
blood to be duly worshipped.

Those of our ways are kind to all creatures, for hurtful
thoughts are quiet draining and aren’t worth the loss of
energy.

Misery is self-created; so, too, is joy, so create joy and
disdain misery and unhappiness. And this is within your
power. So harm not.

Teach only what you know, to the best of your ability, to
those students who you choose, but teach not to those
who would use your instructions for destruction or
control. Also, teach not to boost pride, forever
remember: She who teaches out of love shall be enfolded
in the arms of the Goddess and God.

Ever remember that if you would be of our way, keep the
law close to your heart, for it is the nature of the Wicca
to keep the Law.

If ever the need arises, any law may be changed or
discarded, and new laws written to replace them, so long
as the new laws don’t break the oldest law of all: Harm
None.

Blessings of the Goddess and God on us all.

The Law of the Power

The Power shall not be used to bring harm, to injure or
control others. But if the need rises, the Power shall be
used to protect your life or the lives of others.

The Power is used only as need dictates.

The Power can be used for your own gain, as long as by
doing so you harm none.

It is unwise to accept money for use of the Power, for it
quickly controls its taker. Be not as those of other
religions.

Use not the Power for prideful gain, for such cheapens
the mysteries of Wicca and magick.

Ever remember that the Power is the sacred gift of the
Goddess and God, and should never be misused or abused.

And this is the law of the Power.

Daily Cosmic Calendar for Monday, April 7th

While Sagittarius Moon usually stimulates goodwill, a happy-go-lucky disposition and the urge for adventure in the great outdoors, these dynamics are present and yet somewhat muted because of the approach of two, highly-charged, challenging sky patterns. Jupiter in Taurus and Uranus in Aries reach a provocative, 45-degree liaison (7:10PM PDT) while Mars makes a contentious, off-kilter 150-degree contact with radical-change agent Uranus (11:46PM PDT). Since these two aspects are far-and-away, the major alignments affecting everyone on Planet Earth today, the early hours may not seem so intense. However, as the hours unfold, unsettled affairs can become more iffy, pressure-filled and volatile. Therefore, it is advisable to keep a low profile across the board for this 24-hour time-period. Have fun in exploring literary and educational pursuits – via the lunar presence in upbeat, goal-oriented Sagittarius – but don’t push a personal agenda with such determination and ego-investment that you wind up alienating colleagues, friends and dear ones during the second half of the day, and especially during the evening hours. If at all possible, avoid everything associated with legal matters, key signings and long-range commitments. At the same time, be as sensitive and nurturing as you can with loved ones on the ropes who need your kindness and support.

Happy, Happy, Happy Monday, dear friends!

I hope everyone is having a fantastic day so far! I just wanted to drop you a quick note since I am running behind as usual. First of all, all the individuals that I am involved in a webring with……don’t panic, I am just redoing the page. You will notice real quick all the rings are gone. Since I put up the new template, all of the rings’ graphics went crazy. They were stretched all over the place. I am currently trying to find the problem and fix it. That page will be back to normal shortly.

Second, for all of my dear friends that write to me. Don’t get upset, think I don’t care or just don’t want to write to you. That is not the case at all. I love to hear from each and every one of you. I just have so many comments that come through a day (1000) that it takes time to get to each of them. I want to answer your questions, I want to know how you and your families are doing, I want to help you out in any way I can. Just please understand it might take me a little bit to get to your comment. I love each and every one of you and I consider you part of my family. Don’t ever forget that!

Well I said I was going to make this short and I be darned, I did it (for once, lol!)! I hope you have a fabulous Monday.

Goddess Bless You & Yours,

Lady A

‘THINK on THESE THINGS’ for May 6th

‘THINK on THESE THINGS’
By Joyce Sequichie Hifler

Henry David Thoreau, whose cry was “Simplify! Simplify!” went to great measures to prove to himself, and perhaps to society, that life could be lived in the most simple manner and at the least expense. With only a few dollars he managed to provide for himself the things of absolute necessity for quite a long period of time.

Not many of us would care to exist on the absolute necessities. We have become too much accustomed to easier living. Things that were once thought of as luxuries are now considered necessities. And yet, with all of this, life is anything but simple. We seem to have the ability to complicate the best laid plans and find ourselves shadow boxing.

Like many of the trite old adages, “Life is what we make it,” is so true. By our own minds we accept of reject, by ignoring or by searching out the causes of shadows and removing the cause. It is whatever we elect to do about our individual lives that makes the difference. But we shall make great strides when we recognize the supreme excellence in all things of simplicity.

We don’t need to worry about doing without the necessary things in life – if we have a grateful heart. A grateful heart is not just remembering to write a few words to someone who has done a kindness, or saying thank you graciously and at the right moment. A grateful heart is the feeling of great blessing which precedes that thank you note and that verbal expression.

A grateful heart is one that always known the fullness of that rich feeling of first being grateful without cause. And then, all other gratitude and its expression comes naturally.

Perhaps true gratitude is a grateful thoughts toward heaven that I should be chosen to fill this spot, do this work, and have been given the strength to do it.

It was Romaine, the English theologian, who said, “Gratitude to God makes even a tempered blessing a taste of heaven.” We can have so much more heaven with a grateful heart.

Elder’s Meditation of the Day May 6

Elder’s Meditation of the Day May 6

“We must remember that the heart of our religion is alive and that each person has the ability within to awaken and walk in a sacred manner.”

—- Thomas Yellowtail, CROW

The Native Spirituality is full of life. When we seek it we become alive. Even if we have gone astray and have conducted ourselves in a bad way, we can look within and have a new awakening to life. Maybe we have drunk too much alcohol; maybe we have cheated on our spouse; maybe we have done things that make us feel guilty and ashamed. If we look outside ourselves, we will not find life; if we look inside, we will find life. Anytime we choose to change our lives, we only need to look inside. How do we do this? Take some sage and light it, close your eyes and say to the Great Spirit, I’m tired, I need your help. Please help me change.

Great Spirit, I know you exist inside of myself. Let me awaken to your teachings.

May 6 – Daily Feast

May 6 – Daily Feast

When we let down our guard, habit is waiting to reclaim its territory. It seems innocent and it is so familiar that we seldom suspect what teeth it has! Once we decide to change something, we can’t expect to do it in one great sweep. What has taken us over by such tiny degrees must be edged out the same way. The fact that we are taking small steps does not minimize a very great commitment. Little by little, we reform our habits, making sure we leave no void for any other bad habit to fill. If we have a ne lo at nv, made an effort or tried to change and failed, it is probably because we tried to do it along or denied the need to change. The Cherokees believes he needs a u na li go sv, a help or a partnership, to give him support. It may be another v da di lv quo at nv, a special or blessed person that is grounded in the Galun lati.

Daily Motivator for May 6th – Far beyond you

Far beyond you

Your own success goes far beyond you. In this highly interconnected world, when you create value in your own life you cannot help but also create value in many other lives.

True success is not selfish, even when it is undertaken for self-serving reasons. In the process of achieving your own goals, you enable those around you to achieve their goals.

When value is created, it adds value to all of life. So instead of placing judgments on your intention to create value, just get busy and bring that value to life.

Your dreams are not exactly like anyone else’s dreams. They have a beauty all their own.

Go ahead and share that beauty with all of life. Achieve and succeed in a way that’s meaningful to you, and give your own goodness to the world.

Bring your authentic dreams to life. For when you do, all of life will benefit from the beauty of those dreams.

Daily OM for Sunday, May 6th – Culling Out The Weeds

Culling Out The Weeds
Mind Over Matter

The power of the mind is a curious thing, because it is so powerful yet so difficult to control sometimes. We find ourselves thinking a certain way, knowing that this thought may be creating trouble for us yet we find it difficult to stop. For example, many people have the experience of getting sick at the same time every year or every time they go on a plane. They may even be aware that their beliefs impact their experiences, so continue to think they will get sick and then they do.

Sometimes we need to get sick in order to process something or move something through our bodies. But often we get sick, or feel exhausted, because we don’t make the effort to galvanize the power of our minds in the service of our physical health, which is one of its most important functions. We really can use it to communicate to our bodies, yet we often regard the two as separate entities that have little to do with one another.

Knowing this, we have the power to create physical health and mental health, simply by paying attention to the tapes running in our minds. Once we hear ourselves, we have the option to let that tape keep running or to make a new recording. We harness the power of the mind in our defense when we choose supportive, healing words that foster good health and high spirits. All we need to do is remember to tend the field of our mind with the attentive and loving hand of a master gardener tending her flower beds, culling out the weeds so that the blossoms may come to fruition.

The Wicca Book of Days for May 6th

A Carved Cernunnos?

Today’s element is Earth, and it is at this time of year that the Horned God is at his most rampant, making this a particularly apt day to familiarize yourself with one of his most impressive representations:  the Cerne Abbas Giant. Thought to represent Cernunnos, the Celtic god of fertility, the 180-foot tall outline of this club-wielding figure was carved ut of a chalky hill in the English county of Dorset nearly two thousand years ago. It has long been the custom for women hoping to conceive a child to perch themselves on the tip of the giant’s phallus.

Super Six

On this sixth day of the month, meditate on the number six. This numeral has many associations it’s the six dots on a die, it can represent victory, for instance; as the six points of Solomon’s seal, it signifies cosmic harmony, and in triplicate, as 666, it is reputed to identify Christianity’s Anti-Christ.
