To Slow Down Time

TO  SLOW DOWN TIME
Draw a pentacle on your right hand using a blessed blue pen. Visualize a sand
clock as you draw with the sand falling slowly. Say:

Core go round
Power be bound
Interrupt the nature’s course
Time slow down
Cast the spell saidth this words.

The spell will last for 24 hours or until the pentacle is erased, naturally or
washed, so don’t let your hand get sweaty.

Your Ancient Symbol Card for February 10th is Altruism

Your Ancient Symbol Card for Today

Altruism

Altruism denotes the noble act of giving to those in need without the expectation of a return. The act of giving has been seen as one of humankind’s greatest attributes throughout history. It is honored in nearly every culture. To give is a gift to both those who receive and those who give. Giving is usually associated with addressing the material needs of others, but the gift given can take many forms such as wisdom or protection or simply a shoulder to cry on.

As a daily card, Altruism suggests there are those around you in need of things you can give them. It is a time for you to address the needs of another, or others without regard of profit or acknowledgement of your contribution.

Your Love Horoscopes for the Week of February 10th

The week that hosts the most romantic day of the year — Valentine’s Day — isn’t likely to disappoint. Still, it’ll start out with more sobriety than you may want to deal with. That’s because the Sun will square off with Saturn on Tuesday, and it may feel difficult to shine in the presence of your lover. In fact, you might feel slighted — as if he or she has more criticism than positive feedback. Nevermind, because the weekend is what really matters. A Full Moon in Leo on Valentine’s Day promises hearts, flowers and bold declarations of love. Combined with a trine between the Sun and Mars on the same day there will also be plenty of energy for “dessert.”
Aries Horoscope
Aries Horoscope (Mar 21 – Apr 19)

When it comes to passion, you want to focus on the extraordinary lineup of planetary energy that begins on Friday. First, a Full Moon in your romance sector on Valentine’s Day will bring emotional fulfillment. If you’re dating someone special you’ll know your love is true. If you’re single, you might feel that emotional longing to love again. The good news, however, is that instead of feeling sorry for yourself, you’ll socialize. In fact, an outing with friends might lead to an unexpected meeting with someone who drives you wild!

Taurus Horoscope
Taurus Horoscope (Apr 20 – May 20)

Romance might not be your first priority early in the week. On Tuesday, it’s possible you’ll feel frustrated with your mate if you get the sense that he or she isn’t supporting one of your professional goals. Keep in mind that your love might come across as hard on you but this is only because he or she wants you to be the best you can be. By Friday, you might be ready to introduce a new love interest to your family or meet his or her clan.

Gemini Horoscope
Gemini Horoscope (May 21 – Jun 20)

Distractions at work early in the week won’t ruin your chances for romantic enjoyment by the weekend. In fact, by then you’ll feel as if you’ve earned your fun … and you certainly will have! An entertaining conversation with someone special might lead to an exciting evening on Friday. If you’re dating someone, it’s possible you’ll exchange meaningful cards for Valentine’s Day that are filled with poetic sentiments about your affection for one another. The best part of the weekend, however, will be your incredibly adventurous sex drive. Savor it!

Cancer Horoscope
Cancer Horoscope (June 21 – Jul 22)

You might feel hopelessly frustrated in matters of the heart on Tuesday. Your lover might not be as willing to open up as you are, and instead of respecting his or her space, you might interpret it as a personal affront. Don’t be hypersensitive. Instead, try to see where your lover is coming from. He or she may have significant trust issues to overcome. If you can assure your sweetheart that you’re in it for the long haul, you might help to loosen the vice grip around his or her heart.

Leo Horoscope
Leo Horoscope (Jul 23 – Aug 22)

When it comes to love, this is certainly your time to shine. A Full Moon in Leo on Friday promises you’ll wear your heart on your sleeve. You’ll have every intention of enjoying Valentine’s Day fun to the max with your sweetie. In your typical grand fashion you’ll likely spoil your lover with an extravagant gift or an over the top display of affection. You might also plan for an extra special night out — one that your mate will remember for years to come.

Virgo Horoscope
Virgo Horoscope (Aug 23 – Sep 22)

You might second-guess your lovability quotient early this week — especially near Tuesday. You might fear rejection, and because of this you may keep your crush for someone a complete secret. If you choose to go this route you’ll only be cheating yourself, because you’ll never know what might have been. Have the courage to move past any self-doubt and claim the love you deserve. If attached, you might be in for a spectacular romantic surprise on Valentine’s Day that your love has managed to keep under wraps.

Libra Horoscope
Libra Horoscope (Sep 23 – Oct 22)

You might feel frustrated in romantic matters early this week because it’s possible that a lover might leave you flat broke. Are you feeling pressured to come up with an extravagant Valentine’s Day gift? If so, you might break the bank in order to impress your sweetheart. Don’t go shopping close to Tuesday — you will only regret such poor judgment. By Friday, however, you’ll be in a sweet spot to enjoy social fulfillment with your lover and incredibly gratifying “extra-curricular” activities as well!

Scorpio Horoscope
Scorpio Horoscope (Oct 23 – Nov 21)

Domestic strife might cut into romance for you — at least early in the week. Your obligations at home have been quite intense, and it’s likely you’re feeling more confused about how to balance family and the rest of your life. Try to cut yourself some slack and recognize that even you have a breaking point. If you’re feeling overwhelmed between work and career responsibilities you’ll have no room to enjoy what could be a spectacular Valentine’s Day weekend. That would be a shame.

Sagittarius Horoscope
Sagittarius Horoscope (Nov 22 – Dec 21)

You might feel as if no matter how hard you try to convey yourself to your partner, he or she just isn’t “getting” you. Mercury will backpedal into your message sector on Wednesday, making it even more difficult for you to get your message across easily. Being misunderstood might frustrate you so much that you decide to exchange conversations as little as possible. Make an exception for Valentine’s Day, however. You’ll have a boost of support if you and your sweetie are out and about.

Capricorn Horoscope
Capricorn Horoscope (Dec 22 – Jan 19)

One of your friends might leave you feeling filled with self-doubt about your ability to attract someone in your mutual social circle. Before you give into his or her criticism, consider whether or not this person is a true friend, or if they are merely trying to sabotage your potential love match. It’s possible this pal doesn’t have your best interests at heart. If you’re in a relationship, however, you can expect an erotically delicious Valentine’s Day. Deep, transformative, emotional connection is possible between you and your mate.

Aquarius Horoscope
Aquarius Horoscope (Jan 20 – Feb 18)

Your boss might be so hard on you early in the week that it leaves you feeling gloomy. Put your nose to the grindstone and deliver whatever is required on the job so that by Friday you can enjoy your Valentine’s Day weekend freely. In fact, if you’re in a relationship, the Full Moon in your partnership sector on Friday will allow you and your mate to enjoy a special, sentimental bond. You might even choose to deepen your commitment by moving in together, becoming engaged or even deciding to marry.

Pisces Horoscope
Pisces Horoscope (Feb 19 – Mar 20)

You might become so private about your thoughts this week that your partner convinces him or herself that you’re hiding something. Do your best to address any paranoia before it gets out of hand. Reassure your mate that you are “all in,” but that sometimes you require an extraordinary amount of alone time to recharge your spiritual batteries. A great compromise would be to spend the weekend at a spa where you could enjoy a couple’s massage or other pampering treatment.

Your Ancient Symbol Card for Feb. 9th is Chance

Your Ancient Symbol Card for Today

Chance

The Chance card denotes a period in which taking risks may produce positive results. This doesn’t mean head off to a casino with your life’s savings! What is suggested is that you should make gains by taking a well calculated risk. For the power of Chance to be fully realized it is essential that you pick your risk carefully, move forward with conviction, and above all else don’t get greedy!

As a daily card, Chance implies you are currently in a place where taking a chance is likely to produce substantial rewards. In other words, take a few calculated steps out on the proverbial limb, but remember if you take it too far you are likely to lose all that you gain and possibly more.

To add a spark
A flash of light
Inside the dark.

Let adventure come
In a positive way
So  might laugh
Have fun and play

Let doors swing wide
And open my heart
As on life’s journey
I depart.

Daily Feng Shui News for Aug. 13th – 'Festival of the Double Sevens'

Today celebrates the ‘Festival of the Double Sevens,’ which is also known as ‘Chinese Valentine’s Day,’ a day that falls on the seventh day of the seventh month on the Chinese calendar. One of the most common and powerful Feng Shui cures to enact on this day is to place an image of the Dragon/Phoenix in the ‘Romance’ corner of your bedroom. Considered by this tradition to be the perfect couple, when paired together these auspicious celestial animals complement and support one another as true life partners. Therefore, joining them in that same romantic space can strengthen or even rekindle a relationship while also promising to improve and sweeten married life. But these beneficial energies don’t just bless existing couples only. If you’re single and looking for love, placing this image in the ‘Romance’ area of your living spaces will greatly increase your ‘marriage luck.’ This is the perfect day to call on this couple so that you too can become a part of a blissful one.

Valentine’s Day: Another Kind of Love

Valentine’s Day: Another Kind of Love

Spread love to everyone during this Aquarian holiday

Jeff Jawer   Jeff Jawer on the topics of love, insight, blogs, astrology

Valentine’s Day is Thursday, February 14. The holiday that celebrates romantic love seems to have nothing to do with the saint for which it was named. Its association with amour began in the 14th Century, about 1000 years after the death of St. Valentine. Although it’s a great way to sell chocolate and flowers and, hopefully, to open hearts, the astrological association with the holiday is almost as strange as its connection with a martyred priest.

The Sun is always in Aquarius on February 14. This is the sign of the Water Bearer but it’s not a sentimental Water sign. Aquarius is an Air sign characterized more by the head than the heart. Aquarius is about friendship, community and collective ideals rather than couples. It tends to be chilly, using the intellect to step back from the messy world of feelings to achieve understanding with the mind. Aquarian love is universal rather than personal and usually needs some emotional breathing space and independence to counter the confinement of intimacy.

Valentine’s Day, like Aquarius, is more about an idea than about reality. Its origins in the 14th Century reflect the romanticism of the Middle Ages … which was a model for spiritual rather than erotic love. (Robert Johnson’s book “We” is a good source of information on this subject.) Romantic yearning represented a desire for a divine connection, not personal pleasure. The partner was a symbol for God and the desire to experience sacred union. This model comes closer to Aquarius because it’s an ideal instead of a physical reality.

A higher plane of love

But the myth of romance has permeated culture for so many centuries that we’ve lost sight of its higher meaning. The unspoken expectation of becoming complete within a relationship is bound to produce disappointment. While personal love can be a delicious affirmation of our desirability, and intimacy serves as a bulwark against isolation, human partnerships usually fall short of our highest hopes. The familial, emotional, physical and financial connections we share within them have their divine moments but cannot confer immortality or answer life’s biggest metaphysical questions.

Romantic love comes with strings attached. Desire, jealousy, conflicting values and contrasting tastes are tests for even the most harmonious couples. Chocolate, flowers, champagne, a good dinner and great sex go a long way to erasing the illusion of our separateness but cannot eliminate it entirely. And depending on one person as the source of love is not an Aquarian formula for fulfillment … being part of a community is.

The sign of self-less love

One connection Aquarius has with romantic love is its opposition to Leo. The Lion is the sign of the heart and represents the personal experience of amour. It’s the rising of excitement we feel in the chest when someone arouses our feelings. It is the expression of affection that flatters others and warms ourselves. Yet if Leo is the heart, Aquarius is the circulatory system. The Water Bearer distributes, which is an important message about another kind of love. It is the love of humanity, called “agape” by the Greeks.

Agape aligns with Aquarius’ community consciousness and represents a less personal but equally noble expression of the human heart. Giving to others without expecting anything return is generosity of the highest order. It is a reminder that a truly Aquarian Valentine’s Day gift would be a contribution to a charity or acting as a volunteer for an organization. We can still give our chocolates and flowers for personal romance but contributing to people in other ways will make this day of love even more complete.

Your Love Horoscopes for the Week of February 11th

Break out of old habits on Valentine’s Day when the Moon in pioneering Aries rewards people who take risks. Fast-paced and innovative experiences can make this a memorable time. But the tempo slows for the weekend with a lunar shift into sensual Taurus that is made for stopping and smelling the roses. Enjoy some earthly delights to open hearts and make relationships more comfortable.
Aries Horoscope
Aries Horoscope (Mar 21 – Apr 19)

Excitement arrives midweek when the emotional Moon enters your impetuous sign on Tuesday and provokes you to take some personal risks. Discontent with your current situation could drive you to step out of the shadows and boldly express your needs. Obviously, taking the initiative in relationships opens you up for rejection; but if you want love now, you may have to toughen up and fight for it. There’s no need to apologize for following your heart.

Taurus Horoscope
Taurus Horoscope (Apr 20 – May 20)

Feed your senses this weekend with the evocative Moon in your pleasure-loving sign from early Friday morning to Sunday afternoon. Indulging in the delicious delights of food, music and massage can make you purr like a kitten that everyone will want to pet. Cooking a special meal for the object of your affection is much more romantic than going out to a fancy restaurant. Plan ahead to make it an easy no-stress event that’s all about sharing the joy of giving and receiving.

Gemini Horoscope
Gemini Horoscope (May 21 – Jun 20)

Tackling a tough task like a difficult conversation that you’ve been avoiding works well on Tuesday. You are sharp enough to make your points directly, clearly and kindly. Privacy could be a must this weekend when you need a break from others to settle down for a bit. The energy changes drastically on Sunday afternoon, though, when the Moon moves into your mobile sign. Your incurable curiosity and sparkling personality make you someone people want to know. A little flirtatious behavior is fine as long as no one’s feelings get hurt.

Cancer Horoscope
Cancer Horoscope (June 21 – Jul 22)

Teaming up with friends or actively participating in an organization should liven up your social life this weekend. Group outings can be complicated, but it looks like you may be more comfortable hanging around with several people now than going one-on-one. You might meet someone new while working for a cause or you could have more fun with your partner when you share a common purpose. Finishing your obligations on Friday frees you up for more fun ahead.

Leo Horoscope
Leo Horoscope (Jul 23 – Aug 22)

It’s easy to get lazy this weekend, Leo. The emotional Moon is in stubborn Taurus, which could cut into your creativity. But if you use your imagination, you can find ways for some adult play without stressing too much. A casual date in a comfy location could be more romantic now than a fancy candlelight dinner. Sweet tenderness and sincere attention will do more for establishing a new connection or deepening an old one than going to the fuss to put on a big show.

Virgo Horoscope
Virgo Horoscope (Aug 23 – Sep 22)

You may be surprisingly comfortable in an unfamiliar setting this weekend. The cozy Taurus Moon’s presence in your 9th House of Faraway Places enables you to feel at home with people from different cultures and in unusual settings. Your ability to relax in these strange situations makes you a reassuring companion. Accepting different ways of operating displays a healthy tolerance that is attractive to others and allows you to let down your guard. Opening your mind gives you a chance of finding true bliss.

Libra Horoscope
Libra Horoscope (Sep 23 – Oct 22)

The steadfast Taurus Moon occupies your 8th House of Intimacy this weekend, which can slow you down with a stubborn companion. The harder you push, the more he or she is likely to resist. Gentle and indirect persuasion will work better. On the plus side, this pattern can attract a sensual person whose calm and easygoing manner puts you immediately at ease and creates the trust and comfort you need to get closer mentally and emotionally.

Scorpio Horoscope
Scorpio Horoscope (Oct 23 – Nov 21)

You have the perfect balance of passion and self-control this weekend, making you nearly impossible to resist. The Moon is traveling through sensual Taurus and your 7th House of Relationships, adding another layer of attraction to your personality. Practicing patience and persistence is the best way to take your current partnership to a higher level of intimacy. Or if you’re single, you should get out and mingle; your sexy magnetism can draw in an intriguing person who wants pleasure as much as you.

Sagittarius Horoscope
Sagittarius Horoscope (Nov 22 – Dec 21)

A tender touch could be your key to relationship happiness this week. Passionate Mars is in sensitive Pisces where the force of every action is multiplied. Be aware of the possibility of coming on too strong for an insecure individual. Instead of bluntly expressing your opinions, try tempering your language and softening your words. People need reassurance this weekend, making comfort more appealing than excitement. Revealing your vulnerability first demonstrates your good intentions.

Capricorn Horoscope
Capricorn Horoscope (Dec 22 – Jan 19)

Make way for pleasure this weekend thanks to the sweet and sensual Taurus Moon’s visit to your 5th House of Romance and Play. If you have any work that needs to be done, plan in advance so that you can finish it as efficiently as possible. You need all the time you can get now to show off the sexy and desirable person that you are. Get back to the basics by being straightforward and keeping the focus on fun without worrying too much about tomorrow.

Aquarius Horoscope
Aquarius Horoscope (Jan 20 – Feb 18)

Being comfortable with yourself is the best way to appeal to other people this weekend. The easygoing Taurus Moon is moving through your 4th House of Roots, signaling that simplicity and self-acceptance are your greatest assets. You don’t have to be super smart, emotionally cool or on the cutting edge to fulfill your relationship needs. Being honest and uncomplicated in your approach to romance acts like a powerful magnet, pulling someone special into your orbit.

Pisces Horoscope
Pisces Horoscope (Feb 19 – Mar 20)

A casual conversation may produce a mutual understanding that strengthens a relationship this weekend. Speak truthfully about what’s on your mind and you could be pleasantly surprised by the response. If you’re single and looking, don’t be shy chatting up people because talking about the simplest things might get some emotional sparks flying. Just show up as yourself and the sincerity of your words will melt someone’s heart.

Daily OM for February 16th – Thoughtful Conclusions about Commitment

Thoughtful Conclusions about Commitment
Deciding Whether to Marry

The decision to marry should not be based solely on having the feeling of love in your heart.

Though we may make many commitments throughout our time on earth, few have a lifelong impact on the path our lives will take. The decision to marry someone you love—to bond yourself to them completely—is unlike any other and can reshape your existence. When two people have similar goals, values, and needs, marriage can result in a lifetime partnership of love and respect, shared laughter and tears, friendship, and intimacy that is ultimately fulfilling. Love is often cited as the sole prerequisite of a strong and stable married life. However, the decision to get married should be made with the mind and the soul as well as with the heart. Carefully considering whether you truly want to get married, both individually and as a couple, can ensure that if you do choose to marry, your relationship can grow to unimaginable depths.

The decision-making process you employ to determine whether you should marry should be a thoughtful and honest one in which you appraise not only your partner but also yourself. Consider that love and attraction do not guarantee long-term compatibility. If your relationship is not secure, marriage will not make it so. Likewise, if your partner is not as attentive, loving, or kind as you would like, your becoming spouses will not change that. Marriage has no power to permanently fill any emotional or spiritual gaps in your life. Before you choose to marry, ask yourself whether you and your partner are adept at resolving conflict, can speak openly to one another, and fully respect one another. Your attitudes regarding the nature of marital commitment, children and child rearing, and marital roles may be the same or they may differ. It is your shared responsibility to discuss your similarities and come to agreements regarding your differences that will predict how successful your future marriage will be. Often times, younger couples rush into marriage just for the wedding dress, the ring, the party, and honeymoon. Would you still be willing to be married if you couldn’t have these things?

Remember that planning a wedding is simple when compared to the intricacies of nurturing a marriage. The honeymoon and nesting period will eventually wear off, and what you are left with is a partner for life. When you work together with your partner, reassure and support one another, and are honest about your feelings regarding marriage, you’ll come to the right decision.

ENCHANTING YOURSELF SPELL

ENCHANTING YOURSELF SPELL

Go to a flower shop and find a red rose, the best one that you can find.
Take it home and say these words,
“Whatever it is that (she) is attracted to is contained within this rose.”
Visualize rose colored energy coming from your genitals into the rose.
Now crush the rose into powder and keep it in a small package.
Lace some of your key chain with it everyday you know that you will see her.
When you do, put your hand in your pocket and touch the keys.

LOVE POTION

LOVE POTION

You’ll need a few large apples, cinnamon, yarrow, spring water, salt, and a enameled or cast-iron saucepan.
These are often associated with love and passion.
If it is to your orientation, it is often helpful to bless or consecrate these components.
Concentrate on your goal while preparing this potion:
Slice the apples place them into the saucepan, coat with cinnamon, and cover with yarrow.
Put in enough water to submerge the contents and add a small sprinkling of salt.
Stir clockwise on low heat, incanting a love charm of your own making.
Bring to a simmer for about 90 minutes, strain and place into a dark jar.
Put a few drops into your favorite aftershave or cologne and wear it every 4 days.
The magic stays after the scent fades.

Dog-gone Doggies of the Day for Feb. 13

Holly, the Dog of the Day
Name: Holly
Age: Three year old
Gender: Female Breed: Shetland Sheep Dog
Home: South Florida, USA
I‘m Holly Brown, a three year old Shetland Sheep Dog. In the second picture, I am way up in the mountains at our home in North Carolina, but most of the time I live in South Florida. I am the alpha dog with two other lovely Shelties and we have a wonderful time with our family. They have never had more than one dog at a time and we really keep them going. What fun!

In the pictures below you see me (Blue Merle) with Rosie (Tri-color), who is my age, and Bambi (Sable) who is only one. We have a great time exploring, running, and barking (a lot). Shelties do not like to swim, however our family is teaching us in case one of us might accidentally fall in our pool.

In November, while staying in the mountains, Bambi and I took off exploring the 180 acres adjoining our property. We got lost and everyone on the mountain helped search for us in the rain as night fell. What luck when we were found standing drenched and bewildered. After we had a warm bath, Rosie gave us a lecture on going off on our own. I don’t think we will do that again!

My days are very busy as I am a very friendly dog. My sisters and I go to my dad’s law office and greet the clients. They love all three of us and are disappointed when we are not there. We have a nice pen behind the office with a tree where we love to take a break and Dad sits in a chair and relaxes with us. Then back inside to nap until our next visitor.

My coat is very thick and Mom enjoys brushing me. I am very well behaved and sit still as she carefully grooms me. I especially like to lick people. Oh, and yes, I like to chase the cats that are in our neighborhood. They tease me from the other side of the fence and I run up and down, but never seem to catch one. They are very tricky.

Taking a walk with us is very challenging. My sisters and I like to get tangled up and Mom has to step over our leashes. I wish I had a movie as it would make you laugh. I also like to bark at the vacuum cleaner and the hair dryer when someone is drying their hair.

I have a wonderful life! I am very gentle and little children love to pet and hug me. I like that, too!

We want to wish you a Happy Valentine’s Day!

Cosmic Calendar for Monday, Feb. 13th

For the start of a workweek, you cannot use the business-as-usual tag line in any realistic shape or form. As indicated in yesterday’s calendar entry, Mercury is on the move – forming a strong parallel with the Sun (8:11AM PST), a flowing trine to Saturn in air signs (10:45AM PST), entering Pisces (5:39PM PST) as well as uniting with far-out Neptune (10:48PM PST). By early tomorrow, Mercury will unite with Pallas – bringing three celestial bodies into the Zero Point of psychic, mysterious, and go-with-the-flow Pisces. Add on this morning’s Sun-Vesta subtle 30-degree rapport (9:50AM PST) and the presence of intense Scorpio Moon, and knowing which way economic markets are going to shift is a coin toss. Whereas Mercury aligning with both the Sun and Saturn early today suggests a need for pragmatism and logic, the annual Mercury-Neptune conjunction in Pisces as Valentine’s Day approaches is quite a different story. Whenever Mercury merges its essence with Neptune, several of the graphic and fine arts loom prominently on the horizon. Plunge into photography, film and video production, painting, music and dance for inspiration. Say no to addictive behavior in any form. Meditation and soul-searching are definitely back in vogue. Don’t be surprised if you feel the urge to problem-solve and strategize overnight as Mercury contacts Pallas at 3:32AM PST on Tuesday.

Crone’s Corner – Getting Ready For Valentine’s Day

Crone’s Corner – Getting Ready For Valentine’s Day

In the early days of the American South, it was thought that if a woman wore a wasp’s nest in her clothing (hidden in her bustle), that her lover would love her more deeply. Don’t try this one at home, kids!

Feng Shui For Lovers!

A tall vase of pussy-willows placed in the southwest corner of the bedroom or the most southwestern corner of the house is thought to amplify warmth, compassion, tenderness and sweetness in a relationship. To attract a new relationship, put two roses in the same corner.
Love Potion #69
Two ounces Vanilla flavoured vodka
One ounce Orange flavoured vodka
Sprig of Mint

This is the adult version of a creamsicle. The vanilla flavour represents warmth, sweetness and smoothness of communication. The orange represents warmth, joy, tenderness and affection. The vodka is for hardiness and strength. Mix ingredients with lots of ice in a cocktail shaker. Pour into two martini glasses. Garnish with a sprig of mint – to encourage the whispering of sweet nothings in your ear.

Magick Spell
Take two large sewing needles, one representing a man and the other a woman. Name each of the needles and ask God to bless them. Insert the point of the “male” needle into the eye of the “female needle.” Bind the two needles together with orange thread (for passion), red thread (for lust) and pink thread (for joy.) Put in a place for safekeeping – like a jewelry box and don’t let the needles become unraveled until your wish is obtained.

If wish is not obtained within a year, it is probably not a union that is meant to be.

Green Tip – Healthy Valentine’s Day Cards & Gifts

Healthy Valentine’s Day Cards & Gifts

  • Jessica Kellner

Whether you’re making valentines for your child’s school party or going the traditional romance route with flowers and chocolate, don’t let Valentine’s Day make you abandon your principles of living wisely and well. Here are a few tips for a fun and romantic holiday that keep your health and the health of the planet in mind.

Handmade, Recycled Valentines
Every year around Christmas, we at Natural Home & Garden offer tons of tips for wrapping gifts in recycled materials you have around the house. Use those same principles to create adorable valentines made from items otherwise bound for the landfill. Brown paper sacks can become a beautiful canvas when embellished with fun cutouts, scraps of ribbon or fabric, multicolored buttons or costume jewelry. Consider finding pretty colors or images to cut out from old magazines.

Instead of spending money on disposable valentines, spend that money at the craft store on design tools you can use again and again, such as heart-shaped paper punches, pretty stamps and a red ink pad, calligraphy pens or specialty paints. Not only are you helping teach your kids a lesson about reducing waste, you’re also enhancing their capacity for creativity.

Fair Trade Chocolates and Organic Flowers

Sad but true: Conventional chocolate often relies on slave and child labor. As reported by Green America, the State Department’s 2010 Trafficking in Persons report describes children being traded as labor for West African cocoa plantations. Major American chocolate manufacturers such as Hershey rely on cocoa from these horribly run plantations. Fortunately, many types of certification exist to help you sort out the good chocolatiers from the bad. You can download Green America’s chocolate score card and guide to certification labels here and tuck it in your wallet for use at the grocery store. It’s true that Fair Trade and organic chocolate costs more than the other stuff. But when you consider that the low price of conventional chocolate is only possible because of child slaves, you’ll realize its true cost.

Conventionally grown bouquet flowers are sprayed with toxic pesticides and other chemicals both when they are being grown and afterward to keep them pesticide-free. If you want to purchase a bouquet for a loved one, look for those that are Veriflora-certified, which ensures the flowers were produced sustainably and with fair labor practices. Some national retailers such as Organic Style and Organic Bouquet offer certified flowers. Otherwise, assemble your own bouquet from pretty items plucked from nature. A collection of pretty boughs with winter berries in a vase might make a lovely centerpiece, or choose a locally grown cactus or a seedling from a local nursery that can be transplanted to the ground when spring weather hits in a few short weeks.

Think Outside the Chocolate Box

You don’t have to be a master of creativity or romance to come up with a great idea for a less conventional Valentine’s Day gift. Consider a piece of vintage costume jewelry, then have it engraved at a local jeweler for a low cost. Visit Etsy to search for handmade jewelry or other items. This “Lover Letter Bird Sparrow” locket necklace would make a perfect gift, as would this gold-plated “Love Birds” customized initial necklace.
