The Meaning of the Number 4

The symbolic meaning of number Four deals with stability and invokes the grounded nature of all things. Consider the four seasons, four directions, four elements all these amazingly powerful essences wrapped up in the nice square package of Four. Fours represent solidity, calmness, and home. A recurrence of Four in your life may signify the need to get back to your roots, center yourself, or even “plant” yourself. Fours also indicate a need for persistence and endurance.

New Year’s Resolution Spell

New Year’s Resolution Spell

For this spell, choose a few goals that you want to accomplish; these may be related to work or your personal life. Keep them in your mind; with this spell, you will raise spiritual assistance in accomplishing your intentions. To start, you will need to gather four rocks that you’ve collected from a nearby “special place,” perhaps a park or your back yard. You will also need some unrefined salt. After the New Moon has begun, take the four rocks you have gathered and place them outside near your home in an undisturbed part of your yard. Lay down the rocks in a cross, one for each direction. Sprinkle the salt lightly over the four rocks, and toss the rest in the center. Visualize the goals you have set for yourself and say out loud what you hope to accomplish. Leave the rocks out until you have realized your aims.

9 Natural Lessons For Your New Year

  • Christy Diane Farr

What is a weed? A plant whose virtues have not yet been discovered. – Ralph Waldo Emerson

The earth is a most magnificent teacher, not just of how to best interact with her but also of how to make our own lives bloom. In the spirit of the new year, of this magnificent opportunity to cultivate the life you desire, I offer you these 9 Natural Lessons for the New Year.

Lesson 1: YOU are not a weed. (You may just be a wildflower planted in a rose garden.)

Call it whatever you wish but our source makes no accidents. Too many truly extraordinary human beings are walking around on this planet feeling like they don’t fit, like they are broken, or that they don’t belong. I don’t care if it was your parents, teachers, peers, spouse, church, or the images portrayed in the media that led you to believe that you are a weed but it is a lie… and you have to stop believing it.

You are perfectly imperfect, just like the rest of us. You may very well be unlike the others but that doesn’t mean you suck, it means you’re a Wild One. That means you’re one of us… and your life is a gift.

Those who dwell among the beauties and mysteries of the earth are never alone or weary of life. – Rachel Carson

Lesson 2: You find what you seek. Seek intentionally.

I know it seems simple but seriously, it matters. If you want a beautiful life, look for beautiful things and wallow in them. If you want love, look for opportunities to be loving (in a healthy way). If you want abundance, surround yourself with things (images, quotes, books, people, etc.) that teach and remind you how to feel abundant. If you talk to yourself all day about how there isn’t enough time, energy, money, help, or whatever else you need, then you will absolutely find proof of that everywhere you are. There are too many ways for us to cultivate a different way of showing up in the world for anyone to keep living with the same old crappy life.

Though I do not believe that a plant will spring up where no seed has been, I have great faith in a seed. Convince me that you have a seed there, and I am prepared to expect wonders. – Henry David Thoreau

Lesson 3: Your dreams are your plans. Live them.

We all want our lives to make sense. We want to feel like we’re making a difference. Still, I see people searching and searching for what they are supposed to be doing. What are you good at? Do that. What makes your heart sing? Do that. What was the thing you did that cultivated the most dramatic results for you and the people you were serving? Do that again. The answers are not “out there” somewhere. Your answers are within you. Look within. Ask questions and when your soul whispers… for the love of all things glittery, do what it says!

(And if you don’t know what that means, call me.)

Adopt the pace of nature; her secret is patience. – Ralph Waldo Emerson

Lesson 4: This is a lifetime, your lifetime. Calm down and be the real you.

All of these resolutions, goals, dreams, and such are just different words for, “I want to be me.” If you’re trying to lose weight, you’re saying you want to return to your true body size. If you want a new job, you’re saying that you want work that’s true for you. If you want to stop doing something destructive to your body, you’re saying that you want to live in alignment with your integrity, no more coping mechanisms. You’re saying you want to be you, the real you, after a spell of months or years of living like someone else.

This is about returning to your true self. It’s a journey, just like the road you took away from you that got you here. Be patient. Let go of the hysteria. Drop the desperation. Just breathe, decide what needs to be done, and take action–small, consistent, steps back to the truth of who you are–as frequently as you can bear it.

The more steps you take, the faster you’ll get home.

Nature does not hurry, yet everything is accomplished. – Lao Tzuis

Lesson 5: Take only the actions that are true for you.

Saying yes is a sacred act. Your resources–time, energy, money, attention, etc.–are all you have at your disposal. Think about how you’re using them. If there isn’t enough of you to go around, it’s time to reconsider. Think about why you say yes.

I ask not for a larger garden, but for finer seeds. – Russell Herman Conwell

Lesson 6: Live within your means.

You have this much space, this much energy, this much passion, and this much money… Are you wasting your life stretching and searching, when you could be cultivating true joy right here in your real world? We all want to live well, there’s nothing wrong with that. But, so many are missing out on true love at home while they are out trying to conquer the next level at work. So many are sacrificing their health to accomplish tasks that won’t actually bring them a better life. To thrive in the year ahead, consider if the actions you’ve been taking are going to cultivate the results you truly desire

If we could see the miracle of a single flower clearly our whole life would change. – Buddha

Lesson 7: When life feels dark, remember the lotus flower.

During a particularly difficult time earlier this year, a friend said to me, “Lotus flower. Google it.” I did and you would be well served to do the same. When life is hard, meditate on this earthy lesson.

Gardening is a matter of your enthusiasm holding up until your back gets used to it. – Author Unknown

Lesson 8: Keep the promises you make to yourself… no matter what.

Once you decide what you want to be different, commit to reasonable daily action that will result in that transformation and then do it. No. Matter. What.

The new year is a tender time. Be still for a moment and enjoy the possibility.

Lesson 9: Make space for YOU in 2012.

If you’re like me, this door between one year and the next is a time full of reflection and anticipation. We make resolutions. We set goals. We dream. We intend to cultivate change in the gardens of our lives.

Then, we propel ourselves into the new year, into our big plans, and it works… at first. Then 12 months flies by (or crawls, depending on the year) and we’re back here again, reflecting on what was lost and gained, what came into our lives and what we released. We can’t help but notice how much changed in the past year, and how much didn’t change.

That’s right … we can’t help but notice what didn’t change–the book we didn’t write, music we didn’t make, weight we didn’t lose, trips we didn’t take, moves we didn’t make, debt we didn’t eliminate, relationships we didn’t nurture, habits we didn’t break (or adopt), leaps we didn’t take, and on and on and on.

It doesn’t have to be this way.

Your home is your garden, and if you want to grow something new in your life, you’ve got to do more than walk around with the seed in your pocket. It’s time to clear space in the garden of your life, to make room for that seed to grow and bloom.

It’s time to make space for your life to bloom.

This year, let’s do it differently. You and me. Let’s create the space necessary for your resolutions or goals or dreams or change to become your reality.

Why Most New Year’s Resolutions Are Guaranteed to Fail

  • Robert Pagliarini

Nearly all of us make the same mistake when it comes to New Year’s resolutions, one that practically guarantees we’ll fail miserably. Sadly, it’s not just New Year’s resolutions that we blow. Anytime we try to change our behavior, we make the same disastrous mistake. No mas! In the next two minutes, you’ll learn a strategy that you can use to reach any goal or to change any habit. Even the biggest goals, like stopping smoking and getting out of debt, are achievable with this approach.

So, what’s this huge mistake we make when we set goals or try to change a bad habit? We expect to succeed. We have no contingency plan when we fail. When we inevitably come up short — the stats are bleak when it comes to sticking with New Year’s resolutions — we have nothing to do but revert to our old behavior. “Oh well, I lasted three days longer than last year!” you’ll start to hear this week.

Your biggest goals require the biggest changes, the greatest commitments, the most effort and willpower. Those pounds aren’t going to lose themselves; your debt isn’t going away on its own; and the business you want to run isn’t going to start itself. These are massive undertakings that require a great deal of personal fortitude. The effort required to succeed can seem overwhelming, so much so that you might relent. You ditch your diet and eat the brownie. You forgo your budget and buy the shoes. You talk yourself out of business ownership and turn on the TV.

The good news is that one misstep doesn’t have to derail you if you use the One Day, One Week, One Month Strategy. I’ve used this same approach to create radical change in my life and I’ve shown others how to use it effectively. Here’s what you do:

One Day
It doesn’t matter that the book you want to write will take you two years and lots of late nights to complete. It doesn’t matter that the 50 pounds you need to lose will take 12 months of sweat and sacrifice to drop. The hard work? The long hours? None of it matters. The only thing you should focus on is one day. That’s it. Surely you can stick to a diet for one day, right? Of course you can follow your budget for one day. It’s just one day. Get over your excuses. Get over the anxiety. You can do anything for a day.

One Week
If you survive the first day — and you will — all you need to do is focus on surviving six more days. That’s it. You can do anything for a week, and you’ve already made it through the first day.

One Month
Congratulations! You made it a week. The desire to revert back to old behaviors is strong, but you’ve already gone a whole week. What’s another couple of weeks to make it a month? If at the end of the month you decide it’s not worth it, tell yourself you’ll stop, but give yourself a month.

What happens if you falter? As the old saying goes, if you fall down one step, don’t throw yourself down the whole staircase. If on day four you completely blow it, you simply start over. The next morning, you only focus on getting through one day. Then you take another shot at getting through a week, and you will because it will be much easier the second time. If on week three you crack. No problem. The next morning you simply focus on getting through one day. Then one week. Then take another run at one month. You can do this over and over and over again until you succeed.

And when it comes to New Year’s resolutions, you just may need to try a few times before you succeed.

Daily Horoscopes for Sunday, January 1

The New Year gets off to a great start with the enthusiastic Aries Moon forming harmonious aspects to indulgent Venus and clever Mercury, while her square to the Sun motivates us to take action. A magical Venus-Mars connection indicates that love is in the air, yet it may be tricky to manifest it tangibly. Fortunately, a creative quintile between the Sun and serious Saturn enables us to find a way to use our skills in order to reach satisfaction.

Aries Horoscope
Aries Horoscope (Mar 21 – Apr 19)

You are eager to get started with the New Year because you believe it will be amazing. Happily, your confidence is likely warranted. You’re capable of accomplishing a lot today, but paradoxically, the harder you push, the longer everything takes. It doesn’t make sense to force your agenda onto anyone else; instead, relax a bit and let events unfold naturally. Time is on your side so there’s no need to be in a hurry now.

Taurus Horoscope
Taurus Horoscope (Apr 20 – May 20)

You might wake up ready to conquer the world today as a wave of excitement washes over you. However, the rush passes quickly, leaving you with a more sensible outlook. Although you may have a concrete plan, it won’t help to overwhelm someone who resists your efforts. It’s smarter to turn the tables now and use your stubbornness to work in your favor. Your impatience will only provoke defensive reactions from others. Demonstrate your wisdom by focusing on your long-term strategy instead of wishing for immediate gratification.

Gemini Horoscope
Gemini Horoscope (May 21 – Jun 20)

You Twins are often of two minds, and today’s square between the spontaneous Aries Moon and the calculating Capricorn Sun is no exception. On one hand, you’re ready to swing into immediate action, fearing that you’ll miss an opportunity if you don’t do something right away. Meanwhile, you hear your inner voice cautioning you to wait for a more propitious time. Ultimately, your smartest strategy is to develop your plan more thoroughly first, and then give it your best shot.

Cancer Horoscope
Cancer Horoscope (June 21 – Jul 22)

Reacting in the moment is often a challenge for you cautious crustaceans unless you’re feeling extremely secure. A blast of excitement today can be quite invigorating, but it also raises concerns if you aren’t sure what to do next. Thankfully, a bit of planning helps you to sustain your energy once you come down from the adrenaline rush. Keep in mind that nurturing connections with friends and family is just as important now as demonstrating your productivity.

Leo Horoscope
Leo Horoscope (Jul 23 – Aug 22)

Although you may be able to dazzle others with your song and dance, your presentation might lack real substance today. Your fun-loving approach disarms others, eliminating their resistance. Even an adversary won’t be able to resist your charm in the long run because your subtle tenacity is relentless. Talking up a storm is fine; just remember to slow down and listen when following your heart’s desires.

Virgo Horoscope
Virgo Horoscope (Aug 23 – Sep 22)

It’s too easy for you to see the imperfections of someone else’s plan but not your own. Be careful, for your acute analysis and criticism won’t likely work in your favor now. In fact, you might inadvertently push an ally farther away if you say too much or come on too strong. Patience is your friend today; take lots of small steps when you’re ready instead of forcing one giant leap before it’s time.

Libra Horoscope
Libra Horoscope (Sep 23 – Oct 22)

You are in a cosmic game of tug-of-war as competitive friends try to get you to see things differently. However, playful give-and-take could suddenly turn more serious. Thankfully, there isn’t really a need for animosity, even if there is underlying tension today. But you’re more interested in making love, not war. Although there may not be any romance involved, focus on creating common ground and the harmonious atmosphere will soon return.

Scorpio Horoscope
Scorpio Horoscope (Oct 23 – Nov 21)

Your decisive actions demonstrate one story while your unexpressed desires tell a different tale. It looks like you’re fully engaged in a social setting today, yet you can also be very productive if left to your own devices. Nevertheless, you’re yearning for an entirely different experience, even if you’re not yet ready to share your visions. Remember, there is no hurry, so keep your dreams quiet until they’re solid enough to talk about with someone you trust.

Sagittarius Horoscope
Sagittarius Horoscope (Nov 22 – Dec 21)

Today is filled with fun and games as the feisty Aries Moon activates your 5th House of Play. Luckily, showing your good-natured personality to everyone helps you build the support you need. Doing too much planning brings diminishing returns, so just live in the power of now and make it up as you go along. If you maintain a joyful attitude, pleasurable rewards should follow.

Capricorn Horoscope
Capricorn Horoscope (Dec 22 – Jan 19)

Your current excitability may not guarantee fun, but if you can be a little less practical today, you should be able to manage your emotions. However, avoiding your feelings won’t work now, for they will return with increased power. Take time to separate your personal goals from your career objectives so you can gain clarity on both. Remember, it’s easier to be ambitious when you’re involved with something that you love.

Aquarius Horoscope
Aquarius Horoscope (Jan 20 – Feb 18)

You may feel as if satisfaction is within your reach today, and happily, you could be right. However, too much impatience can turn a pleasant social scenario into a mess. Logically, you know that you should be able to get what you want right away. Unfortunately, everything is going to take longer than you expect. As long you keep an eye on your goal, you should continue to make progress. Don’t be discouraged; instead, maintain a cheerful attitude or you could jeopardize the outcome.

Pisces Horoscope
Pisces Horoscope (Feb 19 – Mar 20)

You’re all fired up and could be quite productive at home once you put your mind toward getting things done. Sometimes you excel at avoiding the details of a project, yet now you’re able to maintain a high level of concentration. Apply yourself in the present moment, without being overly concerned about the unknown territory around the next corner.

Happy New Year’s Eve, dearies!

Miscellaneous New Year Comments
Guess What? Tomorrow’s New Year’s Day! But you already knew that didn’t you, lol!  If you have any party plans tonight away from your home, please be careful. Around here, they put on the News what time the police would be out checking for drunk drivers, hmm! They can’t report the crime that occurs here because this is a crime-free town. But they can tell the drunks what time the police are going to be out were they can avoid them. That’s great! Now why didn’t they tell all of us sober people what time the drunks were going to be out. That way we would avoid them! Makes sense to me. Our local News channel is a joke. They never report anything that happens here. If you want to know what is going on here, you watch the News channel in Illinois. I guess they want us to feel safe and sound in our little town. I do, I live 50 miles from our little, safe, crime-free town, lol! The place I live is out in th sticks. They just recently discovered us and put us on the map. We don’t have enough people out here to even be considered a town. We are a little spot in the road and if you blink, you missed it. The main attractions out here use to be a Post Office and a gas station. Then we had a Dollar General Store built. That has turned into our Country Wal-Mart. We look like a bunch of bee swarming the hive, lol! Makes you want to break out with the theme song to “Green Acres!”

Have a great New Year’s Eve!

CAR BLESSING

Before leaving on a lengthy journey, bless your car.

Walk around it clockwise and examine the body, the windows, the wheels, and so on. Imagine yourself storing up more and more energy within yourself with each breath that you take, then breathe out all of the energy, fixing it in each of the car’s part. Say aloud:

May the protection of the Lord and the Lady be in and about this vehicle,
that it may deliver us safe to our destination. So mote it be!”

Year-end Fire Watch – Japan- The last two days of the calendar year in the lead up to O-Shogatsu, New Year, Japan’s most important holiday. Men gather at the chokai hall and sip tea and divide into teams to patrol the kami (upper) and shimo (lower) halves of the neighbourhood. In groups of five or six they carry flashlights and paper lanterns, as well as noisy clappers. They call out “Hi no yojin” – “Take care with fire!”

Daily Feng Shui Tip for Dec. 30th

Getting all your ducks in a row should be the order of this day if you want to bring in all the fortune and luck this New Year can hold. And if you lived in Southeast Asia you’d be literally doing that exact thing right now. One of the New Year’s traditions indigenous to those people is to garner a great deal of fortune, luck and opportunity by releasing a bird or even a turtle on New Year’s Day. However, if your menagerie is strictly glass, then you might want to take a gander at other ways to bring the fortune and the luck. The Japanese hang a straw rope in front of their homes to invite health, happiness and prosperity to live with them during the coming New Year, and to help keep evil and negativity at bay. The Japanese also believe that the very first thing everyone should do the moment the New Year begins (even before kissing your date) is to laugh. This guarantees that worry won’t hang around your house for the whole of the upcoming year, and that good humor, good luck and plenty of happy opportunity will bless you and yours. I guess the laugh is on them. And then, apparently, so is the luck. Try to get a giggle going as the clock strikes midnight on New Year’s Eve and then see if the next year doesn’t bring you tons to smile about. Go ahead and let those same wishes sprout wings and fly!

Your Daily Horoscopes for December 30th

It may feel as if the year is ending today rather than tomorrow because the imaginative Pisces Moon coaxes us out of the real world and into our dreams. The Moon’s creative square to mental Mercury allows us to bend the facts based upon our needs while her tense opposition to feisty Mars increases our impatience. Meanwhile, an eccentric Mercury-Uranus alignment fills our fantasies with unconventional ideas that encourage us toward radical action.

Aries Horoscope
Aries Horoscope (Mar 21 – Apr 19)

You probably have a clear set of objectives and understand why it’s important to tie up loose ends today. However, your mind is on everything except work because you’re eager for the weekend to begin. The Moon’s presence in your 12th House of Escapism opposes action-hero Mars in your 6th House of Employment, enticing you to find ways to avoid doing much of anything. Unfortunately, you’ll pay the price for procrastinating, so bite the bullet and get your chores done before it’s too late.

Taurus Horoscope
Taurus Horoscope (Apr 20 – May 20)

You are in a creative mood today, but you might not have time for artistic pursuits. Responsibilities at work have piled up or there are chores yet to finish at home. Nevertheless, a bit of concentrated effort can go a long way now if you don’t allow yourself to be distracted by everything interesting thing that comes to your attention. Narrow your focus so you have time to explore playful self-expression later in the day.

Gemini Horoscope
Gemini Horoscope (May 21 – Jun 20)

You may be uncertain about what you need to do in order to live up to other people’s expectations. For example, your boss might give you unclear directions and then be unavailable to answer your questions. Or, you might have previous obligations that distract you from a current assignment. In any case, accepting the impossibility of pleasing everyone frees you to simply do the best you can and then let go until the confusion clears.

Cancer Horoscope
Cancer Horoscope (June 21 – Jul 22)

Your head is filled with such big ideas now that it’s unrealistic to make any of them come true. Even if you create a prioritized list of things to do, your wandering mind scatters your thoughts and actions. Instead of biting off more that you can chew, use the day to review the previous year and think about the next one. Don’t judge yourself harshly if you aren’t very productive today. Some days are just meant for dreaming.

Leo Horoscope
Leo Horoscope (Jul 23 – Aug 22)

You want to stretch your boundaries today by talking about your feelings with someone special. However, your words may seem vague, even if you have very specific things you want to say. Ironically, using fewer words helps you to be more concise in your thinking. Save the long rambling conversations for another day; instead, let your actions speak for you.

Virgo Horoscope
Virgo Horoscope (Aug 23 – Sep 22)

You may be stressed out by someone close to you because you cannot figure out what he or she wants. Even if you’re asked for something very specific, you could be confused when you deliver the goods only to have your partner or friend tell you that you got it wrong. You might begin to think that you’re in a no-win situation, but your frustration is temporary. Thankfully, you’re able to change the dynamics when you stop trying so hard and just treat your loved ones with kindness.

Libra Horoscope
Libra Horoscope (Sep 23 – Oct 22)

You have high hopes for improving your daily health regimen now and may try to put your goals into the form of resolutions for the New Year. However, the dreamy Pisces Moon in your 6th House of Details makes it hard to put your desires into an executable plan. Instead of writing a list of vague generalities based upon unrealistic goals, be specific as possible. It’s better to have two or three concrete items than lots of good ideas that remain unrealized.

Scorpio Horoscope
Scorpio Horoscope (Oct 23 – Nov 21)

Although you might talk about how you’re going to increase your income or change your spending habits, your actions today don’t necessarily support your goals. You may be tempted to spend money on something for the sheer enjoyment of it. Unfortunately, you could become self-critical very quickly, preventing you from having the pleasurable experience you expected. Cut yourself some slack so you can have a little well-earned fun.

Sagittarius Horoscope
Sagittarius Horoscope (Nov 22 – Dec 21)

Although you continue to apply yourself toward specific professional goals, you might choose to leave work early today. You’re tempted to retreat into the hidden recesses of your own mind and leave some responsibilities unfulfilled. Instead of participating in social activities later on, consider staying home and escaping by watching a movie, playing video games or reading a book.

Capricorn Horoscope
Capricorn Horoscope (Dec 22 – Jan 19)

This can be a good planning day as long as you remember to pay attention to the details. You’re tempted to dream big, while still understanding the need to maintain a practical outlook on your future. Even if you are thinking about taking a vacation to an exotic location, you’re able to keep yourself on track and within your budget. Research your options, take good notes, and don’t be afraid to do something you have never done before.

Aquarius Horoscope
Aquarius Horoscope (Jan 20 – Feb 18)

Your friends and associates can be a source of good times today, but participating in social activities might end up costing you more than expected. It’s not that you’re stingy; it’s just than you would prefer to know in advance how much something will cost. Although you may want to blame others for misleading you, your eagerness to be involved might have inhibited you from asking too many questions up front. Let go of any resentment; for now, just enjoy yourself while you can.

Pisces Horoscope
Pisces Horoscope (Feb 19 – Mar 20)

It seems as if others are picking on you today for no reason at all. But the hypersensitive Pisces Moon is opposite Mars in critical Virgo, suggesting that you are more vulnerable now than usual. Don’t assume that everyone is on your case just because you’re feeling insecure. You could miss out on some very good advice if you’re afraid of hearing the truth.

Your Lunar Love Horoscopes for Dec. 30th – Jan. 1

Weekend Love: Lunar Love

by Jeff Jawer

Sweet and Spicy

December 30 – 1

Feelings may be soft and tender on Friday with the Moon in surreal Pisces. This whimsical lunar transit is excellent for romantic escapes where practical matters and responsibilities give way to dreams and fantasies. Movies and music are wonderful for tapping into the soulful emotions embodied by this tender lunar placement. Gently going with the flow without overt ambition creates an atmosphere of acceptance and compassion that engenders trust and affection.

Feelings of safety and the soft edges of imagination are burnt off with a lunar shift into fiery Aries on Saturday morning. The call for immediate action is shouted out with a verbally assertive square between communicative Mercury and forceful Mars. Channeling some of this mental heat into games redirects competitive instincts in a socially acceptable direction. Wit and humor can be delicious by-products of this spicy planetary pair, but sharp words cut deeply if we don’t measure them carefully. This New Year’s Eve is more likely to spur loud talk and raucous behavior rather than the sentimental sounds of “Auld Lang Syne.” Slow down to avoid dangerous actions or incendiary speech.

Sunday may be slightly mellower even though there’s still a dash of impatience present with the impetuous Aries Moon ringing in the New Year.

Today’s Affirmation for December 29th

In pain and sorrow lies truth. I honor the anguish the heart may feel

Feng Shui for the New Year

By

A new year is like a new doorway. A new year offers a new chance to bring who we truly are into manifestation. Each turn of the wheel has its wisdom. What does the wisdom of the New Year hold for you? Your home? Are there obstacles in your way?

In the Northern Hemisphere the New Year follows shortly after winter solstice, the time of year with the longest night, the time of the Great Yin, the Dark Feminine, when the energy of all growing things goes deepest into the ground. We are each given this time to dream of what we might become as the light and growth return.

In the ancient Chinese traditions this is the time of K’un—The Receptive, Earth

The Receptive brings about sublime success,
Furthering through the perseverance of a mare.
If the superior man undertakes something and tries to lead,
He goes astray;
But if he follows, he finds guidance.
It is favorable to find friends in the west and south,
To forego friends in the east and north.
Quiet perseverance brings good fortune.

The elements of spring are sleeping in the dark with the bears and moles and many other animals. In Native American traditions this is a time for dreaming, storytelling, coming together as community and of contacting the spirits of the Earth.

This is not a time to reach outside for answers, but to go deep within.
As we go in, we notice.

Notice your home. What patterns are outmoded? Where are the obstacles to your realization of self? Look at piles of what is not being used. Is there a tool, a skill you have, clothing, computers, cameras that you no longer use? Are they outmoded? Will you use their gifts? If not they need to move along, so give those possessions away. If you are not willing to pass them along, then use them.

Do you have old obligations and debts you have not dealt with? It’s time to clear them too, at least begin to gather the information you will need. It is not possible to truly move into prosperity and abundance, until you are in full integrity with yourself.

All traditions celebrate this time as new birth and the return of sun from its journey to the southern hemisphere. Be gentle with your new beginnings they are infants and need to be nourished until the sap starts to flow in early February.

Make small movements. Allow yourself quiet time. Listen. Clear, clean, restage resting and work places of your life. And bring sustainable light into the time of dark.

In the new year, as you sit cozy in your home, remember there are always those who are cold and hungry or in the dark. Can you pass along something you no longer need to someone who may need it more? Not just people, the animals need your help now too. Can you find a way to share your wisdom and prosperity with those who have no voice? The ancient Chinese masters said: “Feed the Earth, feed the fish and the birds and your world will be abundant.”

May you be a steward of the earth and have a new year full of abundance and joy.

Your Love Horoscopes for the Week of December 26th

Creating harmony in relationships, both new and old, can be difficult in this last week of 2011. Amorous Venus in freedom-loving Aquarius wants to experiment while passionate Mars in practical Virgo prefers to stick to familiar patterns. Flexibility is needed to maintain peace and end the year on a happy note.

Aries Horoscope
Aries Horoscope (Mar 21 – Apr 19)

Rest up on Friday night while the Moon is visiting your sleepy 12th house, because it’s firing into your sign early on Saturday morning and turning up the heat in your personal life. You’re hungry for new experiences and are not likely to be thrilled by a traditional and totally predictable New Year’s Eve. Do your best to avoid pushing reluctant individuals to make changes, because they might push back even harder. A less aggressive approach allows others to compromise and meet you halfway.

Taurus Horoscope
Taurus Horoscope (Apr 20 – May 20)

Friends can warm your heart on Thursday and Friday with the sweet and tender Pisces Moon’s presence in your 11th House of Groups. But you may either be too tired, shy or disinterested to be a hardy partier during the rest of the weekend. A lunar transit in your ultra-private 12th house could have you sitting on the sidelines, or you may simply decide that quiet time with a few trusted people is the best way to ring in the New Year.

Gemini Horoscope
Gemini Horoscope (May 21 – Jun 20)

Fast talking is fun this weekend, but there’s a risk of rubbing someone the wrong way on Saturday night. Your chatty planet Mercury crashes into a stressful square with combative Mars, which can turn a minor difference of perspective into a major fight. If you’re irritated or impatient, take a break and consider whether you want to argue about a petty detail that can make the night memorable in the wrong way. Your best move might be to smile and shake it off or, if that’s not possible, simply walk away.

Cancer Horoscope
Cancer Horoscope (June 21 – Jul 22)

You can cuddle up in the comfort of sweet feelings on Wednesday night, Thursday and Friday with the Moon swimming in sister Water sign Pisces. But the mood and tempo change on Saturday morning with a lunar shift into impetuous Aries. If you’re ready for a raucous time, you will love the high intensity atmosphere. But if you don’t like to be rushed in the pursuit of pleasure, seek out the company of quieter folks who are happy to slip away to someplace more private.

Leo Horoscope
Leo Horoscope (Jul 23 – Aug 22)

The Moon rockets into rambunctious Aries on Saturday to put some passion into your weekend. You’re looking for a lively partner and exciting experiences to ring in the new year. Sticking to the usual routine is not likely to be your idea of fun, so make this a time to experiment. Just don’t let unnecessary impatience, a petty disagreement or elaborate plans dowse the fires of discovery that are driving you. Maintaining your generosity of spirit and wicked sense of humor enables you to shine as the life of the party.

Virgo Horoscope
Virgo Horoscope (Aug 23 – Sep 22)

Relationships might be especially complicated this week. The Moon’s presence in peaceful Pisces and your 7th House of Partners brings some tender moments and spurs romantic dreams on Wednesday night, Thursday and Friday. But then a lunar transit into impatient Aries and your 8th House of Deep Sharing on Saturday morning can detonate some emotional bombs. This could be amazing if you’re ready for passion, yet it requires your willingness to take risks to fully enjoy it.

Libra Horoscope
Libra Horoscope (Sep 23 – Oct 22)

Things are heating up just in time to celebrate the New Year. The mood-setting Moon enters fiery Aries and your 7th House of Partners on Saturday morning to provoke excitement and increase your readiness for new experiences. It helps to have a dynamic partner who is ready for anything to join you in riding this rising wave of passion. Whether you’re into it for one night or for eternity, there are few limits to how far you’re willing to go. Have fun exploring new territory, but don’t get too close to the edge.

Scorpio Horoscope
Scorpio Horoscope (Oct 23 – Nov 21)

You could have a delicious time this week with the imaginative Pisces Moon’s visit to your 5th House of Romance on Wednesday night, Thursday and Friday. It seems like you can turn fantasies into reality, giving you the surreal feeling that you’re starring in a movie. Promises made and expectations raised encounter a stiff dose of reality starting on Saturday morning. If you’re disappointed over the weekend, don’t allow it to lead to a petty fight. It’s wiser to let go and head in a new direction than to get dragged into a conflict where no one wins.

Sagittarius Horoscope
Sagittarius Horoscope (Nov 22 – Dec 21)

The Moon blazes into incendiary Aries on Saturday morning to raise your emotional temperature for the weekend. This lunar transit could ignite instant fires of passion in your 5th House of Romance. Falling in love with someone new can happen in an instant, but your need for fresh experiences might put some pressure on an ongoing relationship. Whether you’re celebrating with a partner or friends, incorporating elements of surprise could do the trick. Work your magic and create some new rituals for the New Year that everyone will enjoy.

Capricorn Horoscope
Capricorn Horoscope (Dec 22 – Jan 19)

Entertaining within your comfort zone might be your best bet for New Year’s Eve while the independent Aries Moon visits your 4th House of Roots. Whether this means celebrating with old pals at your favorite watering hole or having people party at your house, it’s important that you feel comfortable. If you’ve been the host in the past, try making the event a little different this year by adding some surprising elements. In fact, a quiet evening alone enjoying some rest and relaxation might sound like the best idea of all.

Aquarius Horoscope
Aquarius Horoscope (Jan 20 – Feb 18)

Don’t let your head get in the way of your heart this weekend. Although this is a time to cut loose and have fun, your analytical mind could get stuck on a subject that becomes contentious. Word games are fun and you enjoy playfully sparring with clever people. Just be smart enough to notice when you or someone else is getting close to the edge of discomfort. Your “live and let live” attitude is an antidote to this potential for conflict. However, a bit of sensitivity keeps the emphasis on fun.

Pisces Horoscope
Pisces Horoscope (Feb 19 – Mar 20)

You might want to celebrate the New Year early with the Moon’s presence in your magical sign on Wednesday night, Thursday and Friday. Your emotions may be strong, but your compassion and imagination make this a special time. A lunar shift into impulsive Aries on Saturday intensifies the rest of the weekend with an edge of excitement and a sense of danger in the air. Unless you’re in a risk-taking mood, seek out the safety net of reliable people and predictable places to find your fun.
