Elemental Magick – Earth

ELEMENTAL MAGICK – EARTH

The elemental Spirits of Earth are the Gnomes.

Mastering The Element Earth….

1- Make a list of things which have the combined qualities of dryness and coolness. However, don’t to this just out of your head. Rather, make a list of Earth things that you see each day. Practice this for one week. Be sure to record the results each day in your magickal diary.

2- Find a place filled with nature, such as a field or park. Wear as little clothing as you can (if possible, nudity is best), and sit or lie on the ground so that as much of your skin as possible is touching the ground. This is especially easy for women, as they can simply wear a flowing skirt with no underwear and sit on the ground with the skirt spread out. Spend some time contemplating, feeling the coolness and dryness of the Earth. You should do this at least three times within a week.

3- Spend a period of up to three minutes (no more), once a day, imagining that you are the element Earth. Feel the heaviness, the slowness, the coolness and dryness of Earth. Feel the way you can absorb the pains and problems of the world (however, do not actually do so). Become Earth. Do this exercise for at least a week before moving to the next exercise.

4- Once you have leaned to “be Earth”, the next step is to control the element Earth. Bring the feeling from the previous exercise into your consciousness. Next, hold your hands 9-12 inches apart, palms facing each other. Imagine a bottle or box between your hands. Now, as you exhale, visualize all of the Earth element which is in you going out with your breath and into the container
between your hands. Three to five breaths should be enough to fill it. Then, with three breaths, inhale it back into you and go back to normal consciousness.

THE TEST
The next time you feel lightheaded, overweight, just heavy and lethargic, do this exercise. If you feel lighter and better, you have succeeded, with the test AND with mastering the element Earth.

Elemental Magick – Air

ELEMENTAL MAGICK – AIR

The elemental Spirits of Air are the Sylphs.

Mastering the element Air…

1- Make a list of the things which have the combined qualities of warmth and moistness. Practice this for one week. Be sure to record the results each day in your magickal diary.

2- Find a place where you can be alone, take a lounge chair along with you. Wear as little clothing as you can (if possible, nudity is best), and sit or lie in the chair. Begin pore breathing. This is started by doing the relaxation ritual. Next, become very aware of your breath. Become aware of the slow in and out motion of the physical air. Notice the way the air feels as it enters your body. Now imagine that your body is nothing more then a huge breathing apparatus. Imagine that every part of your body only has the function of breathing. You should do this exercise daily for one week.

3- Spend a period of up to three minutes (no more), once a day, imagining that you are the element Air. Feel the lightness, the giddiness, the warmth and moisture of Air. Feel how physical things don’t seem to matter. Do this exercise for only one week, NO MORE. If you wish to do it again, only do it once a month.

4- Once you have learned to “be Air”, the next step is to control the element Air. Take a moment and imagine yourself to be Air. Bring the feeling from the previous exercise into your consciousness. Next, hold your hands 9-12 inches apart, palms facing each other. Imagine a bottle or box between your hands. Now, as you exhale, visualize all of the Air element which is in you going out with your breath and into the container between your hands. Three to five breaths should be enough to fill it. Then, with three breaths, inhale it back into you and go back to normal consciousness.

THE TEST
The next time you feel heavy, slow or lazy, do this exercise. If you feel relaxed and refreshed, you have succeeded with the test AND with mastering the element Air.

Earth

Solid and strong – Earth is the mountain, protective it is the shelter of the cave, nurturing it is the food from the fields and the animals of the hunt. It is life. It is ancient and it is replenishing. Earth is also the direction of the North where the great mountains reside, it is midnight, it is winter and it is the point between death and rebirth when things sleep to gather strength. It is the embrace of death and the promise of rebirth.

Earth is traditionally thought of as a feminine element for from the Earth springs life and that is the realm of women. Earthy things are practical, protective and nurturing. In astrology it is represented by Capricorn (Ambitious, Hard-working, Miserly, Grouchy), Taurus (Calm, Traditional, Sensual and Greedy), and Virgo (Organized, Conscientious, Fussy and Anxious). It is the color of green (or brown).

Earth is the element of the North and the gift of the North is the Lia Fial or magick stone that would cry out when a righteous ruler touched it. This person would be a protector (mother/father) to a nation.

Air

The breath of inspiration, serenity and logic, creativity and the wonder that fills us as we look to the skies and see shapes and dreams within the clouds. Air is also the raw power of a cyclone and the precision of a lightning strike, it is the violence and turbulence of the thunderstorm that also mimics the creative process.

Air is traditionally a masculine element. It is thought and action, inspiration and wonder. It is youthfulness and it is boundless energy. In astrology it is represented by Libra (Charming, Tasteful, Easygoing, Indulgent), Aquarius (Progressive, Inventive, Eccentric and Rebellious) and Gemini (Lively, Talkative, Flirtatious and Crafty). It is the dawn of a new day, it is Spring time, new beginnings and the directions of the sunrise – The East. It is the color Yellow.

Air is the element of the East and brings the gift of the Sword of Nuada that was said to embody the power and knowledge of the Celtic people.

Fire

Burning passion, desire, heated arguments, rage, shouting, screaming, laughing, and crying. All acts of passion and the heat of the moment. Explosions of temper and passionate embraces. Fire is all this but it is also devotion, determination and drive. It fuels us to great accomplishments and gives us hope when all else is lost.

Fire is also traditionally a Masculine element often associated with wars and the Sun. Fire gives us purpose and direction. In astrology Fire is represented by Aries (Energetic, Competitive, Impatient, Selfish), Leo (Commanding, Colorful, Superior and Self-Centered) and Sagittarius (Adventurous, Jovial, Careless and a Spendthrift). It is the mid-day sun, it is summer, it is the prime of our lives. It is represented by the color red.

Fire is the Element of the South and its gift is the Spear of Lugh that when wielded in battle would emit a blinding light stunning ones foes and leading to victory.

Spirit

We are physical beings born of flesh and blood, yet at the same time there is a piece of us that will outlive our bodies and that connects us to each other. This is our astral selves, our aura, the touch of divinity. In traditional alchemy the four traditional elements (earth, air, fire and water) were easily found in nature and within ourselves, but alchemists devoted thier lives to looking for the fifth element (spirit) that would only manifest when there was a balance of the other four within our lives.

Spirit is the fifth point on the Pentagram and the center of our circles. It provides balance by connecting us to not only the other Elements but to each other and divinity. The gift of spirit is the akashic records from which we are connected to all things.

Spirit is not associated with any time of day for it rides with us, it is also not associated with a season or stage of life except perhaps for the point between death and rebirth. Spirit exists apart from time and space. We invite spirit into our rituals when we call on Diety. It is represented by the altar itself, and by the pentacle.

Let’s Talk Witch – Respect for Water

Let’s Talk Witch – Respect for Water

Respect for Water Water, like all the elements, can bless, or kill. A real understanding of the immense force of all the elements is essential to understanding our true place in the world. The very noise of the ocean, so soothing when you meditate from the right distance, can buffet your sensibilities, too. Similarly, waves of emotion can cleanse us or, bursting out inappropriately, can be profoundly damaging. Water can glamour us; stay aware, to learn life lessons about balance, allowing grace and beauty to enter. We are small, but we have a right to our place in the world; we can also be mighty in our effect, so we should deal compassionately with each other. And, like the tides, our fortunes will wax and wane. This is being human, being alive. Be joyful!

Water takes the line of least resistance, yet remains completely itself. Waves may fret around large obstructions, but the river’s impetus carries it inexorably onward. Water constantly moves in a cycle, evaporating, becoming clouds and dispersing as rain, hail, or sleet to rejoin the earth or sea. Amphibians and many insects live dual lives between water and the land. These are seed-thoughts for visualizations, which will keep us on course in the changing, moving flow of life.

Whether presently in the shallows or combating the rapids, feel the joy of life! And remember water’s role in transporting us. In your mind’s eye, take a magical barge and then, by the power of magical imagination, allow the boat to travel with you to the place you wish to be— the safe harbour of the future you wish for yourself, where you are loved, secure, and content. A place where you can express your true self absolutely. Where the life you live is magical; where how you think reflects back into the world, connecting you to its subtle changes … Our brains are 70 percent water, the feeling element. Take the lessons of water deep into your being. Embrace love and life in all its fullness; drink pure water; gaze deep into the well… You are not only nymph, water sprite, or merman, but ruler of your life. Celebrate!

A Quick Solitary Quarter Call

A Quick Solitary Quarter Call
(when you’re in a hurry! lol)

I welcome the East–bring your winds here,
Blow away doubt, confusion, and fear!
I welcome the South–let your fire glow,
Let desire and passion of life through me flow!
I welcome the West–let your healing rain,
Wash away negative feelings and pain!
I welcome the North–bring stability,
Strength and balance here to me!
The Quarters are called and the circle’s cast,
To raise the power and send it fast,
And when my sacred work is done,
Bless the magick that I’ve begun!

Mastering the Element Water

Mastering the element Water…

1- Make a list of things which have the combined qualities of being cool and
moist. Practice this for one week. Be sure to record the results each day in
your magickal diary.

2- Remove your clothes and enter a bath or pool where the water is cool. If you
have access to a lake or river, this would be best. Also, it would be good if
you could get a swimming snorkel so that you can breathe while completely
submerged beneath the surface of the water. Obviously, this would be difficult
to do in a small bath tub or in a shallow pool, but if you have access to a
snorkel and have a place where you can be totally submerged, you will have the
quickest success. Once you are submerged as much as possible, and if you are
completely submerged, breathing comfortably through the snorkel, do the
relaxation ritual. Next, become very aware of your breath. As you do this
you will find that your breath will automatically slow down. Notice the way the
air feels as it comes in through the nose, down the air pipe and into the lungs.
Feel this. Once again, imagine that your body is nothing more then an enormous
breathing apparatus. If you experience any sort of “drowning sensation”, stop
immediately and try again later. You should do this exercise for one week.

3- Spend a period of up to three minutes (no more), once a day, imagining that
you are the element Water. Feel the fluidity, the coolness, the refreshing
moisture of the elemental waters. Know what water feels like, what water is. Do
this for one week.

4- Once you have learned to “be Water”, the next step is to control the element
Water. Take a moment and imagine yourself to be Water. Bring the feeling from
the previous exercise into your consciousness. Next, hold your hands 9-12 inches
apart, palms facing each other. Imagine a bottle or box between your hands. Now, as you exhale, visualize all of the Water element which is in you going out with your breath and into the container between your hands. Three to five breaths should be enough to fill it. Then, with three breaths, inhale it back into you and go back to normal consciousness.

THE TEST
The next time you feel hard headed, overly tense, or like you muscles are hard
as a rock, do this exercise. If you feel relaxed and reasonable, you have succeeded with the test AND with mastering the element Water.

Mastering the Element Fire

Mastering the element Fire…

1- Make a list of things which have the combined qualities of having heat and
dryness. Be sure to record the results each day in your magickal diary. Do at
least daily for one week.

2- Find a place that is extremely hot, such as a desert or a dry sauna (not a
steam bath). If those are not possible, find a place where a roaring fire is going. Such a fire could be in a fireplace or a barbecue pit or grill. Remove all of your clothes, or as much as you can, and get as close to the heat source as possible without risking a burn. Once you are in a position where it is uncomfortably hot, but not painful or unbearable, do the relaxation ritual. Focus on your breathing. Again imagine that you are a huge breathing apparatus. Do this for a short while, usually ten minutes. Do not spend any time longer then that. Do this exercise at different times of the day or night for one week.

3- Spend a period of up to three minutes (no more), once a day, imagining that
you are the element Fire. Feel the heat and your ability to transmit the heat.
Know what Fire feels like, what Fire is. Do this for one week.

4- Once you have learned to “be Fire”, the next step is to control the element
Fire. Take a moment and imagine yourself to be Fire. Bring the feeling from the
previous exercise into your consciousness. Next, hold your hands 9-12 inches apart, palms facing each other. Imagine a bottle or box between your hands. Now, as you exhale, visualize all of the Fire element which is in you going out with your breath and into the container between your hands. Three to five breaths should be enough to fill it. Then, with three breaths, inhale it back into you and go back to normal consciousness.

THE TEST
The next time you feel listless or have a total lack of energy, do this exercise. If you feel energized and revitalized, you have succeeded with the test AND mastering the element Fire.

The Air Witch & Smudging Ceremonies

The Air Witch & Smudging Ceremonies

Smudging involves burning herbs and using the herbal smoke to cleanse and bless areas or people. It is a common and sacred practice.

Native Americans make use of three primary herbs for smudging: white sage, cedar, and sweet grass. The sage removes negative influences, the cedar cleanses the area, and the sweet grass calls in positive influences. The prayers said during the ceremony are lifted to the gods upon the smoke.

To smudge, place sand or salt in the bottom of a fireproof dish. If you are using a smudging wand, you can carry this dish beneath it to catch any hot ashes. If you are using a dried, crumbled herbal mixture, light a charcoal tablet and place it in the center of the bed of sand. Sprinkle the herbs over the charcoal as you move clockwise from area to area.

As you moved around the space wafting the smoke, say aloud, “Only love and light may dwell here. All other vibrations must leave this house {person, etc.}.” You may direct the smoke into corners and crevices with a feather, a fan, your breath, or your hand. When you have smudged the whole area, sweep the negative vibrations out the door and call in the positive vibrations that you want. Try something along the lines of, “Be gone, worry, pain, misery, and strife! Welcome, healing comfort, love and light!”

The Air Witch & Auras

The Air Witch & Auras

An aura is the colored area around the body. It is the atmosphere or spiritual essence of the self. It has been asserted that we each have a primary aura color. We cannot change our primary aura color, no matter what we do. However, there is an overlay of color on the aura that we can control and manipulate for magickal used. This kind of magick should be used only on the self, never on others.

In order to manipulate your aura overlay, you have to be able to manipulate your emotions. In the same way that the mind “colors” emotion, the body reacts to the colors in the aura field. In other words, in order to change your aura overlay to a clear, bright red (to warn others away), you would need to direct the emotion you see as red into your projected aura. This is accomplished with concentration and visualization. If you can visualize something as simple as a bubble, you can change your aura overlay.

Here are the most commonly accepted aura color interpretations:

Red: Passion, sexual energy, anger

Orange: Stability, clear thinking

Yellow: Logic, intelligence, energy, nervousness

Green: Nature lover, healer, jealousy

Blue: Peace, at rest, depressed

Purple: Spiritual

Pink: In love

Black: Negative person

White: Connected to the Divine, wise, a teacher of spirituality.

In effect, manipulating the aura is akin to throwing a glamour. The difference is in the level of concentration. A glamour only has to be strong enough to fool an onlooker, while an aura manipulation has to fool you. If you are about to go into a job interview and are nervous, your aura overlay will be yellow. You might want to change it to an orange color, which indicates a clear thinking, stable person. So, you visualize the energy inside of you as a clear bright orange, then release it from the center of the self, allowing it to stream out of your pores into your aura field. Do not ground until after the interview. Have faith that your aura overlay is now orange, and it will be.

It is a smart move to make regular aura cleansings a part of your magickal routine. This techniques are simple. While in meditation or an a separate task, simply visualize flooding your aura with a brilliant white light. You may want to smudge the aura field. Simply burn white sage or another cleansing herb in a dish, and direct the smoke all about your body with a feather of fan. Both techniques are safe and effective.

Air Witch & Aroma Magick

Air Witch & Aroma Magick

Aroma can make us hungry or feel comfort and warmth, or inspire the opposite reactions. The power of scent works with the memory and the magickal proprieties of the material. Incense, oils, herbs–all of these can be gently heated, burned or used as is to inspire a bit of the sacred each time we breathe in. Aroma is a person’s earliest sense. As babies, long before our eyes focus, we know our world from the scents that surround us.

Aromatherapy and flower essences such as the Bach flower remedies, employ scent and vibrational energy in a therapeutic sense and have been proven to change one’s mood. They can work both on the self and on others.

In order to use the essential oils listed here, simply dab the oil on a cotton ball and sniff, or place a few drops in an oil burner and gently warm the oil.

To boost memory:  Rosemary

To inspire lust:  Ginger or hibiscus

To decrease lust: camphor

To inspire hunger: Cinnamon or garlic

To create an atmosphere of comfort: Cedar

To heal: Eucalyptus

To protect: Garlic

To revive energy: Peppermint

To create sacred space: Frankincense and myrrh

To attract money: Clove

To promote sleep: Lavender

To promote laughter and joy: Orange and lemon

To ease grief: Rose

To calm stress: Chamomile

To conquer fear: Grapefruit

To calm anger: Patchouli

Air Witch & Air Magick

Air Witch & Air Magick

Air magick pertains to all things that travel through the air. This includes death, music, thoughts, spirits, dreams and invisibility. Other specialty areas include travel magick and twilight studies. The word twilight is used here to describe the state of mind when we are not quite asleep and not quite awake. It is a shift in consciousness that allows for the more surreal parts of life to come into sharper focus.

Like dirt and water, each type of wind contains its own primary properties. The magickal properties and purposes corresponding to the different types of winds are as follows:

Whirlwind:  Whirlwinds run the gamut from gentle “dust devils” to full-blown tornadoes. This is a powerful aspect of wind to use; however, it is best to only use the violent form on the astral plane. This is the best wind to use to banish or destroy. Be careful with whirlwinds, even if only on the astral plane, because they tend to confuse.

South wind: The south wind is the warm wind of fire. It can work as an all-purpose magickal booster; however, it can easily cloud a situation. The South wind brings blessings of friendship.  Singing into the south wind can facilitate contact with loved ones. It is the wind of celebration.

North wind: The north wind is the proverbial wind of change. It is the icy col wind of death and works well in spells of destruction or banishment. It is connected to the element of earth, and can be used as a healing wind. The north wind moves things forward in time.

East wind:  The east wind relates to air. It symbolizes new beginnings and fresh starts. This is a good wind to use for matters involving intellect and self-improvement. It ushers in clarity and clears the mind.

West wind:  The west wind is the wind of love and  emotion. It relates to the element of water. Cleansing and divination are favored when the west wind is blowing. The voices of the dead are heard on the west wind.

Using the Power of the Elementals to Clear Negative Earth Energies

Using the Power of the Elementals to Clear Negative Earth Energies

Elementals are essential to the movement of energy through the Earth. But sometimes energy lines get blocked because of human pollution such as motorway construction, phone-mast erection or mine working that has been abandoned though the resources are not naturally exhausted. Other causes include major housing developments especially in direct line with sacred sites. Sometimes housing or workplaces are created from old business premises or institutions such as mental hospitals, prisons or warehouses. These can carry negative feeling from earlier inhabitants that likewise sour and slow the flow of energies through the new homes and office. These negative earth energies are sometimes called geopathic stress.

If you live or work in a place of negative earth energies then the building or certain rooms may feel cold or seem dark even in Summer. Plants will not thrive and animals refuse to settle. Children may become factious there or have night mares if the blocked psychic streams are below a bedroom. You may feel tired or suffer a series of minor illnesses and accidents in common with others who live or work there or there may be a lot of quarrels seemingly triggered by no logical causes. Stress-related illnesses are common among workers in such establishments.

One of the best ways to remove such negative energies is to set amethyst geodes (tiny crystals in rock ) around the area and wash them regularly. However, an elemental ritual is very effective and very fast-acting, so this can be repeated every month or so if you feel the negativity returning.

Because you won’t be at a spot of natural elemental power, you can use elemental spirit substances to transfer elemental energies to a problem area, large or small. You can also use the same ritual near the center of your home or business to revitalize the energies to restore good luck and happiness if you have had a run of misfortune.
