White candle Jasmine or Pine incense Sprig of sage
This is best performed at night, but it can be done any time of day.
Light the white candle and the incense stick. Close your eyes and hold the sage close to your nose, and breathe in its calming scent. Keep holding it as say:
Calming powers of sage and pine, Add order to this life of mine, (name) By the four corners, elements, God and Goddess too, If this gift seems fit to you, Then please grant calmness unto him/me. So mote it be, So mote it be.
Repeat as necessary. It works within a day or two.
Book of Shadows Blessing Spell
At the time of the Full Moon, take your Book of Shadows (one that hasn’t been written in yet) and some incense (pennyroyal, anise or rue) outside.
Under the light of the Full Moon, draw a pentagram on the first page and under this write the following information: date, time, place, your magical name (and sigil if you have one), the moon’s phase and any other info you feel is important. Hold the book up to the Moon and say:
Here as the Full Moon shines upon me, Bless this Book I’ve made tonight. I humbly ask this of thee, Underneath your most sacred light.
Herbal Beauty Charm Spell
1 six-inch square of golden cloth 1 seven-inch square of green lace 1 teaspoon of witch hazel bark or tincture 1 teaspoon of cardamom seeds 1 teaspoon grains of paradise 1 teaspoon basil 1 teaspoon caraway seeds 1 inch piece of dried ginger root and one of powdered icing sugar 1 inch piece of cinnamon stick 13 apple seeds 1 piece of rose quartz 1 garnet Red ribbon to make tiny red ribbon roses
Lay out the gold cloth squarely on top of the lace. In the center sprinkle the witch hazel, cardamom, grains of paradise, basil, and caraway.
Hold the sugar ginger in your hands and focus on your inner beauty; see it as ray of light making its way into your aura. Place the sugar ginger on top of the herbs. Add the cinnamon stick, the apple seeds, the rose quartz, and the garnet.
Bring the corners of the cloth and the lace up to a bundle; wrap three times with the ribbon.
Tie three knots. Put the ribbon rose stems directly over the ribbon and wrap the ribbon ends three more times, tying three more knots to secure the ribbon roses to the sachet.
Trim any ragged ends. Raise energy and charge the sachet, saying:
Treasures without, Treasures within the glamour comes from my heart, Beauty without, Beauty within, Never from me to part.
You can use this charm to “fluff up” your aura. This combination of herbs works to give you not only radiance, but also increased attractiveness and self-confidence.
Keep the sachet on your altar or near your bed where you can see it daily.
True Beauty Spell
A dish full of earth (good soil, not dry, dusty dirt) A yellow candle A full-sized mirror Olive, patchouli, jasmine, or cinnamon essential oil A small flower pot A flower or plant seed
Anoint the candle with the essential oil you have chosen. Place it in the center of the dish of earth. Light it and sit down with it between you and a mirror.
Look deeply into the mirror, concentrate on your reflection. Without being vain, consider the things you find most beautiful about yourself — not just physically but mentally. What is your inner beauty, what is your outer beauty? It’s important that you never think of what you feel must be “changed”, be as positive about the beauty that you have already.
Perform this ritual 3 nights in a row.
Once the entire candle has burnt down, remove the wax from the dish. Place the earth from the dish inside a small flower pot and plant a seed inside it.
Water it and care for it so that it grows properly.
Spell to Reverse Negative Psychic Energy
This spell is done on Tuesday nights, right before you retire. Do for at least nine Tuesdays in a row. You can also make it a weekly ritual.
- 1 large red votive candle
- Run Devil Run incense
- Reversible oil
- A saucer or plate, plain white, reserved for this use only.
Anoint the red candle from middle to top then middle to bottom, concentrate on reversing all negative psychic messages sent to you, back to their senders. (Try not to visualize anyone, just the negativity being reversed away from you.) Light the incense. You can also carve that desire into the candle with an awl or knife. Take the wick out of the candle, remove it from the metal weight at the bottom. Now turn it around and replace back into the candle. Reversing the wick. Place it on the white plate.
Light the candle and continue the visualization for 7 minutes. Let candle burn itself out while you sleep. Make sure your candle is in a safe place. In the morning you can scry in the wax to find out who is sending you the negativity. Or you can just toss it! Who really wants to know anyway?
Bothersome Neighbors Go Away Spell
There’s often one family in every neighborhood that simply causes trouble for others, no matter how people try to get along with them. Perhaps they have loud parties almost every night or children who torment neighborhood pets or bully other children. When you’ve honestly tried everything else, here’s a spell to help them find a better place to live: a place away from you where they will be happier with their neighborhood.
Find a green candle, one large enough to burn 30 minutes a day for at least a week. Make up a short chant something like this:
Bothersome neighbors go away, find a much better place to stay. A place where you will be happy, I will be happy, and all around you will be happy. An affordable place, a nice place, A much better place to stay So long as it is far from me and mine. Bothersome neighbors go away.
It’d be better to make up your own, especially if you can personalize it to the people in question. Just make it positive and upbeat. The idea here is that you are helping these folks find something better than they have now and helping yourself to peace and quiet at the same time.
You’ll also need paper and colored pencils/pens/crayons/whatever.
Each night light your candle (cast a circle first if you want one), imagining the flame as a spark in their mind which will lead them to a new home. Then sit down an stare into the flame for 5-10 minutes concentrating on your desire that they find a new, better place to live where they will be happy and annoy no one.
Then take up your pen and paper and draw while chanting your chant. Stick figure art is okay if that is the best you can do. The first night draw your neighbor’s (current) house with them doing the annoying types of things they do. Make it complete even if it’s simple art. Put in the trees, windows, and the like. When you are done, wait for the end of the 30 minutes, concentrating on the candle flame and your goal. Fold the paper up and tear it to small shreds. Put out your candle (and close your circle if you created one. Save the torn scraps of paper.
On each night for the rest of the week, repeat the ritual, but the art will change. On the second day, draw them excited and happy in front of their current house — because they’ve found a better one. For the rest of the week, draw them carrying various stuff out of their current house (as if they were moving). The key thing here is only show there current house. You don’t want to limit possibilities by drawing a new house for them.
After you’ve done this a week, put all of the scraps of paper and some of the tail end of the candle in an envelope and bury it or hide it on the property line between their place and yours. If you’ve used large sheets of paper, you only need to include a portion from each if you need to keep the envelope small.
Note that a spell like this can take a while to take effect. Most people do not pack up and move overnight.
To reverse any negativity or hex being sent your way, anoint a purple candle with Rosemary oil. On a piece of white paper write the following in black ink: ” All blocks are now removed.” Fold the paper three times. Light the candle and burn the paper in a bowl, ashtray or any fireproof dish. Invoke the power of fire and it’s elemental spirits. Repeat three times:
Firedrakes and salamanders, aid me in my quest, protect me from all evil forms, turn back the negativity being sent.
After the third repetition say:
So mote it be.
Leo Full Moon Horoscopes
By Molly Hall, About.com Guide
The current leading up to the Leo Full Moo3 (Jan 26th), is one of expressing many sides of your personality. The stimulating vibes of Uranus will meet the vitalizing Sun in the sign it rules, Aquarius (opposite to Leo). Breaking out of the usual thought loops is not just mentally stimulating, but refreshing to the spirit, too. Fixed signs4 (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio and Aquarius), especially in the 7 degree range, can find it illuminating.
But both the sign of romance (Leo) and of originality (Aquarius) are squared by the water fixed sign (Scorpio). This happens at the Full Moon with Saturn square to Sun and Moon, and that last week with a Saturn square to the Sun (January 30th). Using our intuitive eyes, we could foresee a challenges here to guide outbursts of originality in way where nobody gets hurt!
In other words, we have to be mindful of strange, demanding, or selfish behaviors, that have their roots in the psyche. Is the oft-said declaration, “This is me, take it or leave it!” an excuse to avoid responsibility, honesty or taking steps to deepen intimacy?
Relationships can be a house of mirrors, as the shadow material continues to be churned up by Saturn in Scorpio. We say we want to be loved for who we are. The Leo Full Moon makes it a peak for desiring to be loved for our uniqueness. But this month’s aspects and Full Moon also invites reflection on the deeper psyche, and how that manifests “out there.” How does integration of shadow material change who we are, and what kinds of love (or mirrors of validation) we’re seeking. This is a great time to get clear, and heal any deep distortions of the heart and soul that are barriers to love.
Venus and Mars
Love muse Venus remains in steadfast earth sign Capricorn through to February 1st. The impulse to gather with friends, for nourishment via the senses, or sharing the joy of being productive. The attraction vibe overall is to what endures, making it time to connect with age-old friends. The rational side of love — what kind of life is desired — is a motivator. Some significant decisions can be made about what’s co-owned (property, businesses), or mutual responsibilities (children). A good atmosphere for love is: calming, meaningful, grounded, in places that evoke the timeless and tradition.
The primal sex urges of Mars whiz through in Aquarius all month (also changing signs February 1st). This prompts the sexually adventurous to go in search of thrills. The bolt of inspiration can push shy lovers into action. An affair is first sparked by a meeting of the minds. The drives of Mars this month are experimental, eccentric (taboo or kinky), open-minded, and blind to the usual social conventions. Unusual couples are more likely to hook up now.
Here are short love ‘scopes for the rest of January (19th to 31st). They originated from a new mantra of strike while the iron is hot — to offer horoscopes when the inspiration hits.
Freedom and stability — sometimes it seems an either/or proposition. How would it look in one package? If you haven’t yet met such a one, start circling in new social spheres. If your established thing has swerved to either extreme, a shake-up could be on the menu. The Leo Full Moon brings out your gregarious side…give a listening ear to the wise, but don’t let controlling types put out your fire.
Your garden path to love is through play and doing things just-for-fun. Meanwhile your ruler Venus is lured to happenings that serve a purpose. It’s rich loam for meeting friends, artistic collaborators or a potential love. Some share a similar take on what’s happening, and what’s possible, but it’s the wild cards that widen your world. The Leo Full Moon is intense for you — be curious and forgiving about what surfaces in yourself and your loved ones, as messages from the soul.
The airy Aqua vibe wafts fresh air into your social scene. You see more clearly, the patterns in your relationships. A missed connection for love or best mate circles back, and this time you’re quick to act. Abrupt changes in your group participation here or there puts you in contact with those on your wavelength (level of consciousness). As Jupiter turns direct in your sign (Jan 30th), be sure you’re with the right traveling companions. This matters, as you swiftly go forward, with supporters in your corner.
Your loony behavior is enough to send some into peels of laughter. But others, especially those closest to you, see the imprint of the past, in your actions. This month brings flashes of emotional detachment, like manna from heaven for a Crab, who is so often deep in it! This is freeing, and even revelatory. You attract with your rare ability to see into the layers of a situation, and yourself. Your quirky side comes out in its full glory in Aqua month. And paired with a gift for saying the right things at the right time, you’re a magnet for people from all walks of life.
The Full Moon (Jan 26th) at 7 degrees Leo is a peak for high spirits, affection, being noticed. But be alert to dramatic tensions, especially if much has been buried in yourself or others. If a festering issue come to a boil, let it be healed in the cauldron of the lunar peak. It’s a peak of intensity, which can mean catharsis or it could take a darker turn. Tune in to the hovercraft view point of Aqua season, to take things less personally. The spirit of play, generosity and humor with your own peccadilloes wins you (secret) admirers.
Lover Venus supports your way of thriving in relationships. Venus in cardinal earth Capricorn all month is your discernment meter, for where to invest your love and friendship currency. Your ability to adapt to erratic change makes you a valuable ally. Following a fascination, and then say, joining an order, club, forum or meet-up to share your interest widens your sphere. Changes in your love life are likely to reflect changes (some drastic) in your outlook on life and “reality.” Give it time for the dust to settle, before fixing on a person or situation.
It’s a time when it’s harder to smooth over deep-seated conflicts in relationship. Some agreements break apart under the strain of real crisis. In other words, there can be good-byes now, if the relationship rests on a crumbling foundation. The next while is about deepening intimacy, and looking at ingrained habits that keep you skirting around the edges. Spend time alone to make the most of the clear-seeing this month. A dark situation has a silver lining, when it frees you up to re-envision your love life, starting with self-love.
This is a time of clarifying ordeals in love — Saturn in your sign will challenge the Full Moon Leo-Aquarius (Jan 26th). If your Sun is within orb of 7 degrees Scorpio, it’s especially intense! We’re talking crimes of passion levels. Some caution is advised, especially with those that are clearly not who they seem to be. Handling raw energies, though, is your forte. The right dose of truth telling at the right moment moves the energy between you and a lover or friend. Sexual passion is off-the-charts around the Full Moon, and your adventurous side comes out to play. A great love could begin this month, or passion is kindled in a longstanding union.
The love forecast is for surprises — strange and truly wonderful people — moving in and out of your life. But watch for blind spots, especially your own. Trust your instincts, if you get a sixth sense that someone is hiding their true feelings. Friends are your sounding boards, but with their own psychic filters. This stretch can be revelatory and cathartic. Or it can be one of entangling dramas that initiate an underworld journey with your own nuts to crack. Look for ways to make introductions outside your usual social circles. A great month to make new friends, with potential for more.
Beguiling Venus is in your sign the rest of January, making your brand of vitality look alluring. Your quiet confidence and sense of self-containment, your reserve — even your desire to stick-with-the-program — all attract like bees to honey. Make the most of it by being social, out and about, visible….in your way. A risk to flirt now is well-received. With so much Aqua in play, you’re apt to make connections in surprising ways. Being spontaneous and acting out of character, with your sense of timing, pays off big time.
The romantic Full Moon in Leo (Jan 26th) is potentially a love reckoning. The roots of relationships are exposed, for a good look at what’s happening. Fixed signs will find this a demanding stretch of time to end of January. The rewards are high, when there’s deep trust and honesty. But a relationship on shaky ground could turn ugly. You could end up making shockingly abrupt decision, so keep checking in with your heart. Many planets in your sign show you what’s going on with crystal clarity. But it still can bring you to a crossroads, of deciding which is the wisest path.
A time for epiphanies and closeness, in a relationship that can handle waves of truth surfacing, to be integrated. The Full Moon (Jan 26th) can bring drama, some love turbulence, and solo time keeps you from acting on raw, unprocessed feelings. If you meet someone now, it could have a “karmic” feel — like you’ve got a past and a purpose together. Watch out for those that want to create scenes where you’re the victim. This month you see others’ projections onto you more clearly. This is gold for making a decision to stay or go.
If Our Pets Made Our New Year’s Resolutions
While people have been making their own new year’s resolutions, I decided to let my dogs, Sanchez and Gina, make mine for me. Here’s what they had to say:
- Take more walks (with us)
- Spend more time at the piano (We love sleeping under it while you play.)
- Take more breaks from the computer
- Remember to play (especially with us)
- Make more dog treats for us
- Brag about us every day
- Perform more concerts for dogs
- Be patient with me in my senior years (from Sanchez). I’m giving you an opportunity to slow down and remember that every moment in life is a gift.
- More agility training PLEASE (from Gina)
- Help more homeless dogs
If your pets made your new year’s resolutions, what would they say?
What Does My Dog’s Breed Say About Me?
y Dr. Justine Lee, PetMD
In my book It’s a Dog’s Life … but It’s Your Carpet, I admit, I make some pretty huge generalizations about breeds and pet owners. Granted, they’re my own opinions, but if you really wanted to know what your veterinarian thinks of you when you walk in the door with your breed of dog, read on!
Dedicated, outdoorsy, loyal, and generally a good person to be around. Shops at REI. Drives a Subaru.
May bite. The dog too.
Kind, mild mannered. Has neurotic tendencies. Gentle. Laid back. Drinks bottled water. Often looks like the dog.
Usually owned by a sweet, old, white-haired person.
Potential to be a loyal, family-oriented person. Can be snarky and have an east-coast attitude.
Family oriented and generally a good person to be around. Has two or three human babies.
Family oriented. Owned by older adults. Shops at LL Bean and Lands’ End. Drives a Volvo.
Likes to carry a YSL or Gucci purse, often with their pet in it. Enjoys the high life. Drinks wine, not beer.
Bad ass. Loyal. Protective. Doesn’t want to be screwed with.
Either wants to have a child or have grandchildren. Loves to nurture and carry loved ones in arms. Very well dressed. Likes pink bows.
Family oriented. High tolerance level for baying.
Financially secure. Educated. Shops at REI, Best Buy, and Nordstroms.
What? Don’t believe me? What do you think? Does your breed represent you?
Here’s an interesting fact worth sharing on today’s ‘National Pie Day.’ Did you know that at one time pies were illegal? Englishman Oliver Cromwell banned all pies in the Commonwealth because he believed them to harbor mystical and magical energies. According to ancient lore, he might have been right. These legends say that round pies induce a connection to spirits while square pies promote prosperity. Pies topped with intricate latticework induce protective energies while apple pie offer healing and peace. And who doesn’t love a good peace of pie?

28: Excessive Pressure
Wednesday, Jan 23rd, 2013
Something is out of balance. This hexagram points to some pressure that is threatening stability and needs correcting. But if a dam is about to burst, moving out of the way is the first priority.
When a person in a sagging mine shaft feels the earth begin to tremble, it is time for quick, instinctive action and nimble footwork. At a time like this, only extraordinary measures will work. When the roof is collapsing, run first, choose your destination later.
Extraordinary times bring out the best and worst in people. Natural disasters bring with them stories of great heroism — but also looting and rioting. When the pressure is on, powerful moments present opportunities to make positive gains. Everything is in a state of flux. One can either move towards positive change and improvement or towards stagnation.
This may be the moment you’ve been waiting for. Although a current challenge may seem to be more than you can handle, remember that a flood reaches its high-water mark for only a few brief moments, and then begins to subside. Action must be taken now to ensure opportunities for success later on. You will never discover the true extent of your own abilities until you, at least once in your life, dive into a crisis with complete abandon, dedicating every ounce of your energy, every fiber of your being, to the cause at hand.
Dare to win.
