Being a Taurus born on May 19th

Astrological symbol: Bull. This is representative for stubborn individuals who are also patient and tactful. It influences people born between April 20 and May 20 when the Sun is in Taurus, the second zodiac sign.

The Taurus Constellation is one of the twelve constellations of the zodiac, with the brightest star being Aldebaran. It covers an area of 797 square degrees. It lies between Aries to the West and Gemini to the East, covering visible latitudes between +90° and -65°.

The Spanish call it Tauro while the French use the name Taureau for the May 19 zodiac sign but the real origin of the Bull is in the Latin Taurus.

Opposite sign: Scorpio. This suggests excitement and authority but also means that this sign and Taurus can create an opposition aspect at some point, not to mention that opposites attract.

Modality: Fixed. The modality reveals the volunteering nature of those born on May 19 and their caution and majestic sense in treating life in general.

Ruling house: The second house. This zodiac placement governs material possession and all resources an individual gathers in time, whether we’re talking about money, friendships or moral principles.

Ruling body: Venus. This celestial planet reveals experience and determination and also highlights seriousness. Venus is considered the yin side while Mars is the yang side.

Element: Earth. This is an element that easily combines with the other three and while it lets itself be shaped by water and fire it incorporates air, this being similar to the reactions of those born under the May 19 sign when in relation to the other elements.

Lucky day: Friday. This is a day ruled by Venus, therefore deals with support and appreciation. It suggests the passionate nature of Taurus natives.

 Lucky numbers: 3, 7, 15, 16, 27.

 Motto: “I own!”

People born on May 19 are constant and steadfast but also very accommodating and accepting people. Just like a true Taurus, they have a tender and malleable frame of mind and they are usually tranquil, unless of course they are provoked. They enjoy owning as many material holdings as possible and having mates around at all times. They dislike emotions of uncertainty and settings that ask for rapid transformation. Those born under this sign like to spend time in the highest circles of society, surrounded by very potent people.

Positive Traits: These natives have a great deal of generosity and elegancy but they seem to show how kind hearted they truly are to people who are as honorable and conscientious as themselves. Therefore they tend to create some sort of circle of confidence around them and are always open for those who’ve won their respect.

Negative Traits: These natives are self indulgent and lazy at times and their preferred negative leisure time activity is dwelling in past behaviors and getting all frustrated about what they see as chances missed. They are greedy and selfish when they have the chance and sometime they don’t even realize how they prove they have such a narrow vision. They are easily offended and very positive with those dearest to you but this only happens when those people allow them to behave this way.

Love and Compatibility: Lovers born on May 19 are passionate and committed. They are rather affectionate and stable rather than adventurous and they prefer to settle for a serious relationship rather than date many people. They are attracted to creative and fun people whom can keep their interest alive and with whom they can spoil and protect. You can conquer the heart of Taurus if you are all eyes on them but also maintain your individuality and degree of independence. This single native is not making a drama out of his single status but even enjoys time alone and enters a relationship only when is prepared to.

They believe in love at first sight and don’t need much time to get attached to someone. They are persons of extremes in love and sometimes this attitude will have them prone to disappointment. A passionate lover prone to jealousy fits when madly in love. They offer everything they have to their loved one and ask for the same. They are likely to fall in love at a young age as they are attractive and positive persona. Regarding their family life, they will marry when they are completely ready and they will probably be cool parents if they choose to have a one big family. They are most compatible with those born on 4th, 6th, 8th, 13th, 15th, 17th, 22nd, 24th, 26th, and 31st.

May 19 Zodiac people seem to be most attracted to the other earth signs: Virgo and Capricorn as they tend to share the same vision of life. In love, Taurus is in a permanent search for someone to keep them active and interested and the most suitable to offer them this is the native born under Scorpio. The lover in Taurus is said to be least compatible with Aries. As for the rest of partnerships between the other star signs and Taurus, you know what they say, stars predispose but people dispose.

Lucky Color: The lucky color for those born under the May 19 is represented by green.

Green suggests the fertility or nature that regenerates each and every time. Green is a safe color that transmits balance and harmony. This zodiac color should be used in objects around the house and accessories.

People having green as sign color are balanced, friendly and down to earth nurturers by choice. Green is favored by lively, generous people that have high moral standards and for whom doing the right thing is most important.

Another metal considered influential for Taurus natives is Steel.

Those born under this influence combine the connections and ambitions of Taurus with the financial wisdom of Saturn. This period tempers the positive and negative characteristics of Taurus zodiac sign with a great accent on the negative ones.

What to Wear: Anything plush, leather or suede — even if it’s hot outside. Due to the foodie tendencies of this birthday honoree, you might also consider an expandable waistband.

What to Eat: Taurus lives for sensual pleasure, so deliver it with several courses of creamy, rich and savory dishes — and don’t forget the wine!

(One Person’s View Point) Goddesses and Gods – 7 Ancient Pagan Gods We Still Love Today

The old pagan gods—those legendary figures out of Norse, Greek, Roman, and many more belief systems—are fascinating subjects. These gods had all of the emotional fallibility of human beings, yet the all the power of the gods they were, and in their stories, they proved capable of shocking levels of pettiness, jealously, and downright cruelty. They were also, however, capable of great kindness, heroism, and justice, making for a set of truly interesting characters. They were us, but moreso.

It’s no wonder, then, that many of these gods that featured in stories thousands of years ago are still prominent in our contemporary fiction. We see them in our superheroes and action stars, who can be thought of as the great grandchildren of the original pagan gods.

But those gods that have survived the millennia with their names and stories intact are the ones we love the most—something about their personalities, their struggles, or their stories intrigues us. They’re the most compelling of them all, so let’s explore them by taking a look at 7 ancient pagan gods we still love today.

The Immortality of Entertainment

The fact that we’re still telling stories about these gods and goddesses thousands of years after their heyday is amazing, and these particular 7 beings have a special appeal that goes beyond the norm.

Maybe it’s because they’re powerful. Or perhaps it is because we wish we could affect the world like they do. But likeliest of all is that their larger-than-life personalities and stories simply allow us a glimpse of the extremes of life that few of us ever get to experience.

And that is why the gods will never die.

The Olympian Gods and Goddesses, Main Greek Gods and Goddesses

The Olympian gods or Olympians are younger gods who got the name after their mythical place Mount Olympus. They had gained rank as the rulers of the world after dethroning the elder gods, known also as the Titans, in a ten-year war called Titanomachy. The Olympians, as they called themselves, were the main gods of Ancient Greece and were representing civilization of the world.

The first generation Olympians were descendants of a titan couple Cronus and Rhea. Together they gave birth to six children, three sons and three daughters. The sons were PoseidonHadesZeus and daughters HeraHestia and Demeter. Zeus, Poseidon, Hera and Demeter are always considered as Olympian gods while Hestia and Hades are only included at some point of their existence. Hades was supposed to live on Mount Olympus and had every honour and right to but was given the realm of death under his control, when the three brothers had to split the cosmos after the victory over titans. And Hestia lived there just for a short period. After being granted a place on Mount Olympus by Zeus she eventually, because of her modesty, gave away her place to keep peace among gods because there were only twelve places on Mount Olympus, and the desire for these was huge among gods. The second generation Olympians were AthenaAresHermesDionysusApolloArtemis and HephaestusAphrodite is also sometimes considered as the second generation goddess but is in general referred to be from the titans generation. Anyway, all of these gods are referred as Olympian gods and together they presided over every aspect of human life.

There are also Asclepius(son of Apollo and Coronis), Eros(son of Ares and Aphrodite or primeval deity), Hebe(daughter of Zeus and Hera), Heracles(son of Zeus and Alcmene) and Persephone(daughter of Zeus and Demeter) who are sometimes referred to be among Olympians.

Greek mythology is filled with respected gods and goddesses that continue to inspire. Artemis is known as the goddess of the hunt and is one of the most respected of all the ancient Greek deities. It is thought that her name, and even the goddess herself, may even be pre-Greek. She was the daughter of ZEUS, king of the gods, and the TITANESS LETO and she has a twin brother, the god APOLLO.

Not only was Artemis the goddess of the hunt, she was also known as the goddess of wild animals, wilderness, childbirth and virginity. Also, she was protector of young children and was know to bring and relieve disease in women. In literature and art she was depicted as a huntress carrying a bow and arrow. She was the goddess of many things, but most remember her as the most recognizable of the hunting deities.

Artemis was a virgin and drew the attention and interest of many gods and men. However, it was only her hunting companion, Orion, that won her heart. It is believed that Orion was accidentally killed either by Artemis herself or by GAIA, the primordial goddess of the earth.

In one version of the stories of ADONIS – who was a late addition to Greek mythology during the Hellenistic period – Artemis sent a wild boar to kill Adonis after he continued to boast that he was a far greater hunter than her.

Anglo-Saxon and Frisian Rune

Source: The Rune Site

The reason I have combined the Frisian and Anglo-Saxon rune sets together are due to their close relation to each other. Originally the Frisian set was created by expanding the Elder Futhark set by four runes (the first four listed below – Ac, Os, Yr and Ior). Then later one new rune, Ear, was added to form the Anglo-Saxon rune set sometimes called the Anglo-Saxon Futhork.

It should also be noted that the Elder Futhark rune Ansuz was renamed Aesc for these sets.

Ac

Sound: “a” as in “sat”
Stands for: Oak Tree
Casting meaning: This rune symbolizes great potential power and is a rune of great usefulness. Ac channels the power of strong, continuous growth from small beginnings to a powerful and mighty climax.

The Crossed Spears

Keywords: Arguments, negativity.

Meanings: The Crossed Spears is a rune that signifies arguments and negative events. Often this can be of an upsetting nature, rather like the Tower card in the tarot. It is not all bad though. If it is near to a positive rune it may indicate the end of a quarrel and healing. Especially if it lies near the Rings. This rune could mean a promotion at work, or a fast recovery if you’re ill.

Phagos

Teaching, education, mastery, virtuosity, legacy

Tree: Beech (Fagus spp.)

Letter: Ph or F

Phagos is a reminder of the mental discipline it takes in the process of acquiring knowledge. When you get to the point of knowing a subject so well, you can teach it effortlessly, then you have mastered the subject on the mental plane, which reverberates through the other planes. Saturated knowledge is knowing a thing inside and out. Those who believe in reincarnation believe this is the kind of knowledge that does not go away when you shed one mortal body for the next one: for instance, a skilled midwife will stand a good chance of coming back as a competent ob/gyn who stumbles upon their talent in a seemingly random way. Or a lute player may be reborn and pick up the guitar at age twelve and learn it faster than any other kid in their class because of knowledge picked up in past lifetimes.

Teaching and inspiring others to master a subject is the physical manifestation of knowledge, or in old terminology, the Word made flesh. Beech tree bark makes a primitive form of paper. Phagos implies the written word and the transmission of knowledge through our uniquely human invention: writing.

Teachers and teaching are often undervalued in the modern West, with denigrations such as “those who can, do; those who can’t, teach,” being thrown about by the arrogant who have never been able to translate their mental skill in a way that consistently inspires others to learn. Bad teachers abound, and they can be bad for any number or reasons: some choose teaching when they have no passion for it, some want the glory of being labeled a teacher. Everybody knows that a good teacher is worth their weight in gold when it comes to the transmission of knowledge, and that a bad teacher is hardly worth the powder to blow them to hell, and often what a teacher is paid has nothing to do with what they’re worth. If you have a good teacher, let them know. Learn all you can while you are able to do so with the best teachers you can find (we live in the age of the internet, and a huge number of great teachers “live” there). Concentrate on a small number of subjects until you gain complete mastery, because you will take that knowledge with you long after your current flesh body dies. If you know a subject well enough to teach it, this Ogham is encouraging you to spread the wealth of your knowledge with other humans in a direct and potentially physical way such as writing.

Wind carries the Mists aloft:
Sage rulers dedicated their lives to serving a Higher Power and built temples that still endure.

The King approaches his temple.
Success if you stay on course.
You may cross to the far shore.

SITUATION ANALYSIS:

Walls meant to protect have instead separated and isolated.
Your defenses have kept you apart from those whom you most need to touch.
Whatever the reason for discord between you, it is time to lay down your arms.
Dispel the inflexible demands and fears of the Mind so that you may reunite in the Heart.

If you have torn down, repair.
If you have injured, heal.
If you have judged, pardon.

Beith

Intention, beginnings, births, pioneer spirit

Birch (Betula spp.)

Letter: B

Well dignified:

An intention with good potential. Bravery. Breaking free. Ending bad habits. Getting unstuck. The start of something good. A new way of thinking. An invention or fresh approach. The ability of getting outside yourself and fossilized modes of thinking. Breaking out of the box. Being the change instead of just talking about it.

Humans learn through mimesis, so it is only because of the brave souls willing to put their necks out for change that anything improves in the world. Beith indicates the willingness to follow through with an intention so you can change yourself and your world for the better. At first, it’s possible nobody will follow you, but Beith says you have the courage to get it done.

Every day is a new opportunity to become a better person than you were yesterday, no matter how tiny the improvement. What can you do, even if it is a tiny action or possibly inaction depending on the circumstance, to be kinder, braver, humbler, more honest with yourself, more generous, and more grateful than you were yesterday, last week, last year, or last decade?

Hexagram 38

K’uei / Estrangement

Fire distances itself from its nemesis, the Lake:
No matter how large or diverse the group, the Superior Person remains uniquely himself.

Small accomplishments are possible.

SITUATION ANALYSIS:

You are working at cross-purposes with another.
The distance between you is very wide.
The gap can be closed, however, with no compromise of your integrity.
You are not adversaries in this case — just two persons addressing individual needs.
Ask yourself: are these needs mutually exclusive?
Is there common ground here?
Must there be one winner and one loser?
Could you become partners in seeking a solution that would allow for two winners?

A Little Humor for Your Day – 52 Tea Puns That Will Get You Laughing Oolong Time

(I enjoy and laugh at many jokes found in Reader’s Digest magazines that I plan on sharing a lot of them with you.)

From Reader’s Digest

So many quali-tea puns for a brew-tiful day.

Some words are just destined to be turned into puns. The word “tea” itself is so easy to make into some tea-riffic puns, not to mention all the other tea-related words. Just like wine puns or coffee puns, the possibilities are practically endless to celebrate your favorite beverages. Puns are the perfect (and funny) addition to any conversation but can also be used on a greeting card for a friend or even in your social media captions. Next time you post a picture of tea time on Instagram, jazz it up with one of these quali-tea puns to impress your friends. Or just do it for yourself because puns can always put a smile on your face. And, of course, if you’re posting pictures of your other food, we have plenty of donut puns and fruit puns too. We have puns for all occasions! Check out the best tea puns ahead.

Tea puns

Nice tea meet you!

Making tea isn’t hard, but waiting for the kettle to boil sure is tea-dious.

This drink is tea-licious!

Oolong live the queen!

Let’s get this par-tea started!

It’s a brew-tea-ful day!

Steep dreams!

Don’t be chai!

I’m gonna love you oolong time!

Varie-tea is the spice of life!

This party is totally tea-riffic.

You’re my bes-tea!

Sweet dreams are made of tea.

Don’t kettle for second best.

Sip sip hooray!

The reali-tea is I love a good brew.

The only way out is brew it.

It’s been oolong time coming.

Sometimes I’m great at multi-tea-tasking.

Feeling tired enough to go to steep.

Can we all get oolong?

I’ll chai again tomorrow.

You’re totally tea-riffic.

You have to admit these puns are quali-tea.

Everything I brew, I brew for you.

If at first you don’t suceed, chai, chai again.

Walk a chamomile in my shoes.

Feeling a bit of deja brew.

Kettle down, kettle down.

You’re such a cu-tea.

I’ve been waiting oolong, long time for this.

It’s thirs-tea Thursday!

I believe I can chai.

Boba puns

We’re a pearl-fect fit for each other.

Pearls night out.

This boba tea is unbelie-bubble!

Hope you’re tapi-okay!

I’m totally cap-bubble of drinking something other than tea, I just don’t want to!

I always had a thing for the pearl next door.

I haven’t tried boba before, but I’ll give it a pearl.

You give me bubble-flies.

Matcha puns

We’re a matcha made in heaven.

You and me are the perfect matcha.

Game, set, matcha!

I’m feeling so matcha better today!

I love you so matcha.

So matcha love.

I’ve met my matcha!

So little time, so matcha to do.

Thank you very matcha.

I’ve met my matcha.

So nice to matcha—what’s your name?

I hope the rest of your and your family have a day and evening that is relaxing, filled with fun, laughter, and love. Always remember to take a little me time every day to recharge yourself!

Merry part until we merry meet again!

Coll/Call

C, sometimes read as K, is Coll, which is the Hazel tree. August is known as the Hazel Moon, because this is when Hazel nuts appear on the trees–the world Coll translates to “the life force inside you”, and what better symbol of life than the nut itself? Hazel is associated with wisdom and creativity and knowledge. Sometimes it is connected in Celtic lore with magical springs, sacred wells, and divination.

Hazel was a handy tree to have around. It was used by many English pilgrims to make staffs for use upon the road–not only was it a sturdy walking stick, it also provided a modicum of self-defense for weary travelers. Certainly, it could have been used as well for ritual. Hazel was used in weaving of baskets by medieval folk, and the leaves were fed to cattle because it was believed this would increase the cow’s supply of milk.

In the Irish myth cycles, there is a tale that nine hazel nuts dropped into a sacred pool. A salmon came along in the pool and gobbled up the nuts, which then imbued him with wisdom. A variation of the story appears in the legend of Finn Mac Cumhail, who ate the salmon and then took on the knowledge and wisdom of the fish. Note that Mac Cumhail is often translated as Mac Coll.

Coll Correspondences

Mundane Aspects: Take advantage of your own artistry or creativity, and share your knowledge with others so they too can practice these arts. Lead by example, and teach those who wish to learn. Find inspiration for your creative gifts, whatever your talent may be.

Magical Aspects: Let the divine guide you in your creative journey. Speak to the gods through your art, and be rewarded with inspiration. If you’re stuck in a creative rut, call upon the Divine to send you a Muse.

The Hermit

Keywords: inner wisdom, solitude, withdrawal, quiet, teacher or guru, research, seeker

Attributes: Virgo (Earth)

General meaning:  In order to get the answers you seek, it may be time to turn inward.  Shut out your distractions so that you may discover the wisdom within.  Answers are rarely found in another – everything you need is within yourself.  This card can also indicate a need to withdraw from circumstances in order to get a better perspective.  Sometimes a player needs a break from the grind.

Reversed:  Repeating your past mistakes.  Not learning.  This can indicate a lack of wisdom. Doing things without thinking of the consequences.  It can also indicate the extremes of solitude – like being some sort of creepy recluse.  Don’t lock yourself away.  It gets mighty lonely on that mountain top.

Affirmation: “Everything I need is within me.  I don’t need to look outside myself for answers.”

Duir or Dair

Pronunciation – Doo-r

Tree Association – oak

Meaning – Strength, security, resilience, endurance, wisdom, sacred spaces, leadership, and kindness. All your hard work and education have paid off. Like the oak, you stand tall and mighty. You are in a beneficial situation (family, work, financially, creative, relationship, etc.), and this circumstance will stay that way for quite a while. Trust yourself! Also, oak represents the intense energy and power of storms and wind. Symbolic of the endurance and stamina you possess that allows you to flourish and thrive.

If reversed – cowardly, uncertain, or frail. You have not been acting kindly or fairly in your leadership role. It’s ok to lack knowledge and facts, but do not make it a common practice.

Inscription and Magical Uses – Inscribe this ogham on an acorn for good luck in job interviews, courage, or pursuing justice. Duir is an excellent ogham inscription to keep at work. Helpful when working when storms, lightning, or the element air. It can also be used in healing or for those who need reminders of their resilience, profound strength, and tenacity.

Folklore – Oak trees are considered sacred guardians. They are an excellent place to meditate beneath or seek strength and assurance. If you catch an oak leaf before it touches the ground, you will have excellent health throughout the cold winter months. Representative of the Oak King, who marks the beginning and climax of the Summer Solstice.

Nine

Positive Qualities

The main positive qualities of the Nine are good will to all people without exception, the ability to be sympathetic and to show mercy to those who need it.

Moreover, you have natural charm, the ability to awaken good feelings. Apparently, this quality is granted to you as an additional tool for the promotion of your views of life.

It would be fair to say that you also use this feature for other purposes. Sensual component of life is of great importance to you, so you don’t consider it necessary to ignore your own appeal.

Negative Qualities

Negative qualities of the Nine include the tendency to dramatizing and extreme manifestations of emotion. In other words, you love making scenes. This is your way of releasing your inner tension. However, those around you don’t feel better because of this.

There is another interesting point: you are a little bit of a Don Quixote deep down inside. Meaning that you consider the old days to be the Lost Paradise. You think that the present days are certainly worse. There is no big harm in it, as long as you don’t make your spouse a scene because they refuse to challenge your neighbor to a duel.

Flashback to 2022 – Spell for Beltane – Charm to “Tie the Knot”

(YOU CAN COPY AND PASTE ANY SPELLS POSTED TO A DOCUMENT TO PRINT AND/OR SAVE ON YOUR COMPUTER FOR PERSONAL USE ONLY)

Beltane Charm to “Tie the Knot”

Much as the Great God and Great Goddess are said to “tie the knot” of marriage at Beltane, we can create our own knot-based magickal charm to honor this ancient and festive sabbat of which the tied-up Maypole is its emblem! When it comes to Beltane a vast majority of ancient pagans – and certainly any Neopagan worth their salt – understands that gender and orientation are of little consequence.  Love is love. Whoever we are and however we are, let’s craft a charm of nine loving knots. Feel free to chant the traditional Wiccan knot spell* if it aids your focus. This can be found online and in a variety of Witchcraft books.

Using a long strip of natural fabric (red or white are ideal), tie nine knots, each of which should contain within a small stone, herb, charm, or written prayer specifically for the energy of love** – cosmic, social, and personal – however your intuition guides. After preforming your magick, hang the charm near the front door or bedroom in order for its blessing to illuminate today and onward.

Five Of Clouds

The Explanation of Five of Clouds Osho Zen Tarot

Has anyone ever told you that bamboo is more beautiful than oak, or oak trees are more valuable than bamboo? Do you think that oaks always wish to have a hollow trunk like bamboo? Bamboo is jealous of oak because it is bigger and has leaves that change color in the fall?

The idea of comparing two species itself sounds very funny, but people themselves seem to find this habit very hard to break.

Let’s face it, there will always be someone who is more beautiful than you, more talented, powerful, intelligent, even happier than you. And vice versa, there will always be people who are less than you in every way. The way to find out who you are is not by comparing yourself with others, but by looking to see whether you are filled with your own potential in the best way you know.

The Energy of Five of Clouds Osho Zen Tarot Based on Osho’s Teachings

Five of Clouds Osho Zen brings inferiority, superiority. When you don’t compare, all inferiority, all superiority, disappears. Then you are, you are simply there. A small bush or a big high tree – it doesn’t matter; you are yourself. You are needed. A grass leaf is needed as much as the biggest star. Without the grass leaf, God will be less than he is.

This sound of the cuckoo is needed as much as any Buddha; the world will be less, will be less rich if this cuckoo disappears. Just look around. All are needed, and everything fits together. It is an organic unity: nobody is higher and nobody is lower, nobody superior, nobody inferior. Everybody is incomparably unique.

Ailm

Transcendence, humility, compassion

Tree: Fir (Abies spp.) or Elm (Ulmus spp.)

Letter: A

Ailm represents the enlightenment that comes of perspective. Its symbol looks like a cross post-resurrection. “He is risen”, meaning He has transcended suffering and has forgiven His persecutors and all mankind to boot. In Iolo Morganwg’s Druid prayer, Ailm is the “love of all existences” that transcends the karmic cycle. Drawing Ailm in any form is a call to look at one’s own personality and to ask “What am I here to learn?” Ailm is a perspective that comes from eons and many, many lives worth of experience. Only lived experience gives us compassion and detachment in balance. Ailm is also the divine aspect of humor. When you laugh an honest laugh rooted in humility, the gods laugh with you.

Though our culture tends to devalue anyone above the age of 40, we can acknowledge wisdom that comes with age, not in every case but reliably enough that it’s a valid stereotype that a person gets “older and wiser.” Having a bunch of lived experience can be quite helpful when it comes to solving life’s problems and making peace with its predicaments. The truly wise neither rush forward with unbalanced optimism nor shrink away with unbalanced pessimism; their information is better than that. They have the ability to read the winds before hoisting sails and attempting to journey across the sea.

(One Person’s View Point) Beltane Sunset to Sunset. April 30th – May 1st

Beltane honours Life. It represents the peak of Spring and the beginning of Summer. Earth energies are at their strongest and most active. All of life is bursting with potent fertility and at this point in the Wheel of the Year, the potential becomes conception. On May Eve the sexuality of life and the earth is at its peak. Abundant fertility, on all levels, is the central theme. The Maiden goddess has reached her fullness. She is the manifestation of growth and renewal, Flora, the Goddess of Spring, the May Queen, the May Bride. The Young Oak King, as Jack-In-The-Green, as the Green Man, falls in love with her and wins her hand. The union is consummated and the May Queen becomes pregnant. Together the May Queen and the May King are symbols of the Sacred Marriage (or Heiros Gamos), the union of Earth and Sky, and this union has merrily been re-enacted by humans throughout the centuries. For this is the night of the Greenwood Marriage. It is about sexuality and sensuality, passion, vitality and joy. And about conception. A brilliant moment in the Wheel of the Year to bring ideas, hopes and dreams into action. And have some fun…..

Traditions of Beltane

Beltane is a Fire Festival. The word ‘Beltane’ originates from the Celtic God ‘Bel’, meaning ‘the bright one’ and the Gaelic word ‘teine’ meaning fire. Together they make ‘Bright Fire’, or ‘Goodly Fire’ and traditionally bonfires were lit to honour the Sun and encourage the support of Bel and the Sun’s light to nurture the emerging future harvest and protect the community. Bel had to be won over through human effort. Traditionally all fires in the community were put out and a special fire was kindled for Beltane. “This was the Tein-eigen, the need fire. People jumped the fire to purify, cleanse and to bring fertility. Couples jumped the fire together to pledge themselves to each other. Cattle and other animals were driven through the smoke as a protection from disease and to bring fertility. At the end of the evening, the villagers would take some of the Teineigen to start their fires anew.” (From Sacred Celebrations by Glennie Kindred) Green Man – Beltane
