Daily Motivator for October 2nd – Often enough

Often enough

Persistence is really quite simple, and extremely powerful. If you don’t get  it right the first time, see it not as a failure but as an opportunity for  another more informed and experienced attempt.

The best response to a disappointing result is more effort. Feel the  disappointment, let it make you more determined, and then move quickly to a  highly effective state of taking action.

Do what must be done, then do it again and again, and again. Even the  smallest action can have enormous impact when repeated often enough.

But how can you get back up when you’ve just fallen down? You do it by  reminding yourself it’s clearly the best choice, and then making the choice to  act in your own best interest.

Persistence is not always easy, yet it’s not particularly complicated either.  You’ve made the effort before, so it’s really not such a big deal to go ahead  and make it again.

Do that often enough, and your actions take on great power and effectiveness.  Do that often enough, and achievement is yours.

Why Ritual 'Doesn't Happen'

Why Ritual ‘Doesn’t Happen’

Author: James Bulls

Some of the greatest insights I’ve learned in life came from my karate instructor. Among the pearls he shared with me was the guidance that, “If you intend to do something but you never actually do it, there’s a reason why.” To give you the context in which this advice was given, we were discussing the matter of congruity. Congruity is defined as, “the state or quality of being congruous; the relation or agreement between things; fitness; harmony; correspondence; consistency”1) and its opposite incongruity is defined as, “the quality or state of being incongruous; lack of congruity; unsuitableness; inconsistency; impropriety.”2)

In the dojo the matter of congruity was used to address the common issue of students who complain that their technique isn’t strong but who don’t practice their skills and drills to improve; in other words, these students’ words and actions were incongruent and as martial artists were living in a state of disharmony. Despite their words they were not practicing the rituals necessary to attain congruity with the “spirit” of karate.

When I speak of ritual, I don’t mean any specific ritual but, like I stated above, the forms and methods of religious expression practiced to come into harmony with the Divine. For Polytheists and Pagans these rituals may include song, dance, drumming, creating sacred space, calling the elements, invoking one or more deities, and spellwork. For others their rituals may include meditation, reading Tarot, casting runes, sweats, caring for the trees, channeling spirits, and prayer. For martial artists seeking self-mastery and perfection of spirit, these rituals may be attending class, practicing their katas, working on their skills and drills, and sparring. And for others their rituals may simply be doing good deeds for others, reflecting on the Sun or Moon, or recycling. Whatever set, regular practices one uses to express their religious foundations or attain unity with the Divine may be considered a ritual.

With respect to our spiritual lives and forms of religious expression, I would say that the goal is to attain congruity, or to live in agreement with the Divine and experience spiritual harmony in all that we do… and of course the question that begs to be asked is, “What forms or methods of religious expression do you practice in your path to obtain congruity with the Divine, and if you don’t observe regular practice of those forms or methods of religious expression and regret that you do not, why is that so?” In other words, “If you intend to do something but you never actually do it, there’s a reason why.”

The responses that most often comes up are that there wasn’t enough time, the right materials weren’t on hand, the practitioner didn’t have the stamina, energy, or motivation, another activity got in the way, or simply that the time and date for the ritual was forgotten or overlooked. These are all valid explanations for why an intended ritual didn’t happen, but none of them actually address the root of the issue.

People in some parts of the world are wracked by poverty and spend the majority of their day looking for clean drinking water and even a single meal, but probably all of you reading this article have a lot of free time; for you, it’s “What will I eat tonight?” but for other people in some parts of the world it’s, “Will I eat tonight?” With as much time as those of us who live in safety and prosperity have each day, there really is no reason we can’t set aside time for religious devotion.

Look at how you spend your free time: how many hours each week do you spend on the Internet? Watching TV? Shopping for yourself? Talking on the phone? Eating for pleasure? Reading Men’s Fitness, Maxim, Cosmopolitan, or a celebrity gossip rag? If these questions offend you, consider them a Zen slap calling you to the question of why ritual doesn’t happen.

The simple answer is motivation.

If you were truly motivated to perform a ritual and live congruently with your faith, you would (short of circumstances totally outside of your control) not fail to perform ritual. You would schedule your ritual and remember the date, arrange to have the time available, and ensure that you had the materials and supplies necessary to conduct the ritual. If your ritual needed to be done on a certain day and you could in no way be free of your obligations on that day, you wouldn’t take a pass on it – you would perform the ritual at the next available opportunity. And if you needed specific tools or supplies but couldn’t get them, you wouldn’t not do it – you’d adapt and find another way to conduct that ritual.

Returning to the example of the students who complain that their technique isn’t strong enough but who do not practice their skills and drills, the question may be posed to them, “Is karate the right path for you?” When you find yourself walking a true path, you will know it because you will want to walk it no matter the burning Sun, freezing sleet, torrential rain, and treacherous ground. The risks become no less and the journey as always exhausts you, but your desire to brave the challenges never diminishes. The karate students lived in incongruity – their words and actions did not exist in harmony and they did not desire to observe the rituals.

This does not mean that the students were lazy or had poor character; it simply means that they did not sincerely want to practice the rituals of karate (kata, hundreds of repetitions of single techniques, self-discipline, and hard physical training.) These students are not bad people; they are simply people who may not be walking the right path. Perhaps the rituals which call to them and which inspire them to live congruently are in gymnastics or dance? Or painting in watercolors, sculpting, and flower arranging?

If we use this example to consider Wiccans, Asatru, Druids, Pantheists, Polytheists, Pagans, Heathens, Christians, Jews, Muslims, Buddhists, Hindus, Sikhs, and many others, what might it say? If such a person on one of these paths – contrary to his or her stated desire – frequently did not practice the rituals he or she uses to live congruently with his or her beliefs and attain unity with the Divine, is it fair to say that such a person is not walking the right path? Is it fair to say that such a person would find greater satisfaction and fulfillment through the rituals of another religion? Or without any rituals at all? Or even to abandon religion completely?

That’s a question only that person could answer.

As an instructor I would never tell a student, “You’re just not cut out for this;” in time the mediocre student may become a brilliant instructor, and even a passionate black belt may neglect his skills and leave the martial path – but that is a choice each of those students will make for themselves. If a student intends to be a strong martial artist but fails to perform the rituals necessary to attain martial strength and self-discipline, there is a reason why. Such a person may be on a true path and simply needs to take his attention away from Facebook status updates, video games, and eating for pleasure; or it may in fact be that this person would simply be happier and find it easier to live congruently, practice his rituals, and attain unity with the Divine through another avenue.

But when ritual doesn’t happen it will ultimately be that student’s responsibility to ask himself, “If I intend to do something but never actually do it, is there a reason why? ” and to find that answer for himself. Who knows where the path will take him?

Today's Tarot for Sept. 23 is The Hierophant

The Hierophant

Monday, Sep 23rd, 2013

Traditionally known as the Hierophant, this card refers to a Master and the learning of practical lessons from the study of Natural Law. This energy of this card points to some agent or resource that can reveal the secrets of life, the cycles of the moon and tides, the links between human beings and the heavens.

Because monasteries were the only places a person could learn to read and write in the middle ages, a Hierophant was one to whom a student would petition for entry. He was the one to set the curriculum for the neophyte’s course of study.

Often pictured with the right hand raised in blessing, the Hierophant is linked with the ancient lineage of Melchezidek, initiator of the Hebrew priestly tradition, the one who passes on the teachings. All shamans of any tradition draw upon this archetype.

Daily Horoscopes for Sunday, September 1

image Aries Emotional discomfort can drive you        right to the edge and yet there’s something validating in all the adrenaline that’s released. An intense relationship drama could take its        toll, but once you express what’s on your mind, you are left feeling replenished and refreshed. Don’t try to figure out what just happened;        instead, look ahead and place your attention on reinventing your future. image
image
image Taurus You may not be very kind to yourself        today when comparing what you have to what you want. If you fall short of your own expectations, you might even think that it’s your own fault, no        matter how hard you tried. Luckily, a close friend or family member could show up with more support than you expect. Don’t push others away now        just because you want to appear invincible. There’s no need to hide, even if you are uncomfortable revealing your vulnerability.         image
image
image Gemini Your constant movement is actually        enjoyable for you today. The same kind of activity might stress someone else, but it matches the pace of your thoughts and makes you feel productive.        Unfortunately this doesn’t necessarily mean that you will accomplish very much. It’s up to you; spin your wheels and fritter away the day, or        focus your attention on getting results and not just looking busy. image
image
image Cancer You are ready to take action today,        but you still might not want to swing into motion too quickly. You may spend the first part of the day going over your thoughts, thinking through all        the possible outcomes to your various strategies. Make your plans early in the day and then use the fiery Leo Moon’s confidence to start out on        your path. Remember, small steady steps now are the smartest approach. image
image
image Leo The Moon’s return to your sign today        brings your feelings out into the open. Even if you’ve been holding your emotions close to your heart, now it’s time to share them with others        or, ideally, with a special someone. But don’t just go around expressing every thought that flashes through your mind, for keeping healthy        boundaries is still a good idea. Remember your reactions to a situation are ultimately your business alone; discussing them with others is        discretionary. image
image
image Virgo The Moon’s entry into your 12th        House of Secrets today creates a bit of a dilemma for you. You are pulled between telling someone how you feel and saying nothing at all. Ultimately,        you are better off if you reveal some of your hidden feelings, but it’s probably not a good idea to ramble on incessantly about issues that do not        concern others. Pay close attention to what you’re saying and use your discretion to know when to stop. image
image
image Libra The Moon’s entry into your 11th        House of Groups today can be socially inviting. You are part of a family now and might derive extra sweet feelings from being involved with others. But        you’ll need to draw the line somewhere or you’ll be lured into a drama that really doesn’t directly impact you. You can be kind and hold        your ground at the same time. image
image
image Scorpio You may be asked to perform a task        at work today that requires a substantial knowledge of technology. Even if you have the training and know that you can do the job, you still might feel        as if you want to be doing something else. Instead of dropping everything and jumping into your new assignment, reserve some time for high-touch        activities to balance out the high-tech ones. image
image
image Sagittarius Strong feelings continue to rise        from the hidden backwaters of your imagination. Luckily, the themes are likely uplifting and even inspirational. But you need to be able to do        something practical with your dreams now or you could be left feeling frustrated. Don’t let the day get away from you; apply your good ideas one at        a time, when each thought first enters your awareness. image
image
image Capricorn It’s not so easy for you today        because you are struggling with whether or not to share your current attraction with someone already close to you. If you decide that you must go        forward, then at least do it in a conscious manner. The best way to prevent anyone from experiencing emotional pain or rejection is to remain        unattached to any specific outcome. image
image
image Aquarius You could easily slip into an old        relationship pattern as the Moon in your 7th House of Partners conjoins the karmic South Node of the Moon. Just because something worked for you in the        past, there is no assurance that it will again work in your favor. Nevertheless, it’s all about how you respond to someone else now. Keep your        initial reaction to yourself and only after you have thought things through should you actually do something about it. image
image
image Pisces The Moon’s entry into your 6th        House of Habits reminds you to consider the relationship between health and diet. Even if you already eat consciously, today is a great day to make        minor changes in your menu. It’s always a good idea to improve your exercise program, too. Any decisive action taken now should have positive long        lasting ramifications.

August 22 – Daily Feast

August 22 – Daily Feast

Every time we think we make a mental picture. The more we look at the picture on the motion picture screen of our minds, the more real it becomes. We forget that it is imaginary, but our emotions pick up on what the mind has seen and the image causes delight, or tears, or even anger. Our emotions manipulate us and cause us to do things we would never do under different circumstances. When we give in, these mental suggestions cause us pain, jealousy, and even anger. If our mental vision tells us we have been wronged, anger causes us to react foolishly. In such cases, we tend to go on the warpath, not for any commonsense reason, but because we fed ourselves the wrong mental pictures.

~ We do not take up the warpath without a just cause and honest purpose. ~

I have been digging through my Spell Books. Yesterday, I got this bright idea I wanted a chatroom for us. So I opened up another tab and did a search. I found several chatrooms but they weren’t what I was looking for. I wanted one to build and put on our site. But that is not the point of the story, I fell into a chatroom that had 4 or 5 individuals in it. And knowing me, you can imagine I started talking away, lol!

One of the girls in there was talking to the host of the chatroom. He wanted to know if she was down that day. She said yes and I couldn’t stand it, I butted in. I wanted to know what was wrong with her. She said she had been depressed since she was 14 years old. A ghost had been visiting her since she was 14 in her dreams. She seemed to never get a good night sleep. I told her that there was  a way of her getting rid of the ghost. She was very interested.

Unfortunately, I was in a hurry and now I feel really bad. I promised her I would return to the chatroom last night and help her. She told me how to bookmark the site where I could find them again. I did or at least I thought I did. I found out last night that there was no chatroom in my favorites.  I forgot something kept interfering yesterday when I was trying to talk to her. I honestly feel this woman is in serious danger. She said the spirit wanted her to go to a church and dig up a book that was buried under it. I told her that wasn’t good at all. To stay far away from that book as possible. I gave her as much advice as I could in a short period of time.

I just feel horrible today. I am hoping she will do a search for me and find me. I used one of my old names in the chat which was TheSweetAbyss. I did tell her I had a blog but not the name. Stupid me! I have helped people before that were haunted by Spirits. But this poor woman, since she was 14, it needed to be stop. Please keep her in your prayers that she will find us and we can end her torment.

I am getting ready to put on some Spirit spells. Just in case you thinks witch – spells – huh, maybe I can do some research and find a spell to get rid of the spell. I sincerely hope my thinking is right. I never let anyone down that I promised to help but oh, brother, I dropped the ball on her.

Again, please keep her in your prayers that she will find her way to us.

Thank you,

Luv & Hugs,

Lady A

Daily OM for July 16th – Recognizing Our Own Greatness

Recognizing Our Own Greatness

The Greatness in Others

by Madisyn Taylor

We are all moved by greatness when we see it we know the feeling of it and have it within ourselves.

A person who is said to possess greatness stands apart from others in some way, usually by the size or originality of their vision and their ability to manifest that vision. And yet those who recognize that greatness, whether they display it themselves or not, also have greatness within them; otherwise, they could not see it in another. In many ways, the achievements of one person always belong to many people for we accomplish nothing alone in this world. People who display greatness rely upon others who are able to see as they do, to listen, encourage, and support. Without those people who recognize greatness and move in to support it, even the greatest ideas, works of art, and political movements would remain unborn.

We are all moved by greatness when we see it, and although the experience is to some degree subjective, we know the feeling of it. When we encounter it, it is as if something in us stirs, awakens, and comes forth to meet what was inside us all along. When we respond to someone else’s greatness, we feed our own. We may feel called to dedicate ourselves to their vision, or we may be inspired to follow a path we forge ourselves. Either way, we cannot lose when we recognize that the greatness we see in others belongs also to us. Our recognition of this is a call to action that, if heeded, will inspire others to see in us the greatness they also possess. This creates a chain reaction of greatness unfolding itself endlessly into the future.

Ultimately, greatness is simply the best of what humanity has to offer. Greatness does what has not been done before and inspires the same courage that it requires. When we see it in others, we know it, and when we trust its presence in ourselves, we embody it.

Truth Spell

Truth Spell

Light altar candles. Light incense. Think hard on the subject about which you wish to learn the truth.

Light petitioners candle…a candle representing yourself. (Can be any color you feel represents you) and say:

“This candle I light to represent myself.
It burns as does the spirit.
It is myself in all things.”

Light two white candles and say:

“These are the symbols for truth.
They are enjoined about (your name)
And to me show all truth.”

Then say:

“As I roke in the night ‘cross the brown heath bare,
In the bright moons light saw a castle fair;
Lords and ladies, great and small,
Were crowding in, ’twas a festival,
Grasses in the wind are waving.
They bade me welcome and I went to drink their wine to my heart’s content.
I danced and laughed with the ladies fair.
Ne’er in my life had I such cheer;
Grasses in the wind are waving.
Then all at once there came a cry:
Haro by yaro! Asleep feel I,
While a lady dancing at my side seemed like a lizard away to glide;
Grasses in the wind are waving.
I woke in the early light of day,
In an olden ruin I did lay,
O’er the rock and into the sun I saw a green-gold lizard run!
Grasses in the wind are waving.
Now the truth I know and it stays with me,
For I have seen what I did see,
All secret knowledge came to mind,
Borne on laughter of the other kind;
Grasses in the wind are waving.”

Sit, then, in quiet contemplation for half an hour. In this time will the truth of the subject in question come to you. Extinguish candles.

Emergency Poppet on the Fly

Material: Aluminum foil

Perhaps something has come up in a hurry, and you feel it needs immediate magical attention. Use a piece of aluminum foil to whip together a quickie poppet — shape it into the figure of a person. Fill with any magical components that might be handy — bits of wood, dirt, grass, even a name scribbled on a piece of paper — and personalize the poppet.

Our Hearts & Prayers Go Out To Willow and Her Family

Sympathy Comments

I just learned a little bit ago that a family member has lost one of their own. Willow and her family have lost their beloved friend, companion and family member, Bela. Bela was only fourteen years old when he passed. I am sure Bela had a good life with Willow and her family. But still that does not take away the pain or the sorrow.
I would like express not only my condolence but also the WOTC’s to Willow and her family at this time. You are in our thoughts and prayers.
May the Goddess Wrap You in Her Arms and Grant You Comfort and Peace.

Do not stand at my grave and weep

Do not stand at my grave and weep
I am not there. I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning’s hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet  circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry;
I am not there. I did not die.

Good Wednesday Morning To All My Dearly Loved Family & Friends!

Good Wednesday Morning, my luvs! I apologize for running late. I have been getting more estimates on my house now. I live in a straight-line wind area. If you aren’t familiar with that, the winds can get up to 90 mph sometimes even higher. Anyway, to keep this story short, the wind blew my roof off. So I am dealing with the insurance adjuster and contractors again, I am so lucky!

I wanted to let you know why I was running late. You know something, I am going to change my name. Yes, you heard right, I am changing it to “Lady Late, ” lmao!

Make it a fantastic day,

Luv & Hugs,

Lady A

Good Wednesday Morning dear friends! Look what the cat drug in

babyvultures

This is the baby vultures that Lady A and company went after yesterday. There are 4 of the little birdies but two of them are camera shy. When they are this age, their fuzzy makes them cute. Till you look at their face and you think you poor little creature, lol. No telling what they think we look like.  Lady A said they run like the devil, hopping and trying to fly. Then you catch one and they want to peck you to death. But the report is good, no humans injured, no birds injured, so no harm, no foul. I tell rotten jokes I know.

Have a blessed day,

Annie

Good Afternoon Dear Family & Friends!

Gothic Comments
Good afternoon dear family and friends! Today we will only make one quick post, this one. In a matter of a few minutes, I will be conducting an Animal Passing Ritual. The male cougar that was brought to us did not make it. He passed this morning at 6:45 a.m. In spite of all my efforts, I did not want to face facts. His injuries were too much for him to recover from and it was his time to leave this plane. Needless to say, all my energy and powers are exhausted. I was with him till the time we got him till the time he passed. I believe no one, not even an animal should have to leave this world alone. He has his head in my lap when he passed. I looked in his eyes and saw his gentle soul leave his wounded body. He was a magnificent animal and deserve all the respect we can give him as we bury him.

Due to this fact, we will not be doing any posting today. We will honoring this great animal and easing his passing over to the next realm. I pray he will be reborn into a much kinder and gentler world. Please enjoy our site, look around and we will be back tomorrow as usual. This is just one of the many hazards of dealing with witches. You never know when the unexpected is going to hit.

Thank you for your understanding and your love,

Lady Of The Abyss

New Year’s Resolutions for Cats

New Year’s Resolutions for Cats

If you think New Year’s resolutions are for people only, think again. My  three cats, Rikki Tikki Tabby, Mr. Mittens, and Sushi have been thinking good  and hard about how they can be better, happier cats. Here are their individual  lists:

Rikki Tikki Tabby

1. Take more naps.

2. Stop chasing birds.

3. Take more naps.

4. Be nice to mice.

5. Spend more quality time with Mr. Mittens — especially in the form of  naps.

Mr. Mittens

1. Ease off the catnip.

2. Drink less cream.

3. Refrain from walking across my human’s keyboard while she is blogging.

4. Stop shredding the newspaper before 8 am.

5. Make a viral video of me and Rikki doing something fiendishly feline.

Sushi

1. No scratching my human’s favorite leather chair.

2. No scratching the humans, especially the little noisy ones.

3. Leave the goldfish in his bowl.

4. Amass a huge following on Facebook.

5. No hair balls on expensive Persian rugs.

So you see, the cats indeed take the coming of the new year very seriously —  that is in between their cat naps, catnip and bowls of cream!
