The Witches’ Pyramid

The Witches’ Pyramid

The Witches’ Pyramid is a set of four principles that are very important to successful to magick:

To Know, To Will, To Dare, and To Remain Silent.

To Know

Research the spells you cast. Learn about the magickal correspondences and use them in your spells. The more of these you work into your spell/ritual, the more focused your energy will become.

To Will

Practicing meditation will teach you to focus your mind which will in turn energize your magick more effectively. You will have confidence in your spell/ritual for it to work. You must believe that you have done real magick and that the real magick worked. Your spell feeds off of your intentions and intent.

To Dare

Any thoughts you have lingering will compromise your magick. Feel your magick as you’re doing the spell. Focus on it completely.

To Remain Silent

The energy you spend thinking about something else will not go toward your spell work. It’s more effective to just think about the spell, focus on it and let your spell do its work. Do not talk about your spell work to anyone, never. If you discuss your spell crafting, it will weaken it. So it is of the utmost importance that you “Remain Silent” always.

Closing the Circle

Closing the Circle

There are two ways to close the circle:

Draw a banishing pentagram while standing in the center of the circle. Say: “Guardians of the East, South, West and North. Powers of Earth, Air, Fire and Water I thank you for joining in my circle and I ask your blessings are you depart. May peace be between us now and forever. Blessed Be!

Once the rite is ending, face North, hold the wand up and say: “Farewell, Spirit of the North. I give thanks for your presence here. Go in power and love.

Repeat this at each point. When done, take your athame and go to the North. Pierce the energy field of the circle and bring the power into the athame. When you return to the North, the circle is no more.

It is important to close the circle properly. The energy you raise during the ritual is trapped in the circle. When you release the circle, the energy is released into the universe. Never leave a circle unopened.

Circle Casting #2

Circle Casting #2

Clean the space physically with your broom or even a vacuum. Purify by burning incense. As you purify, visualize all the negative and disturbing energies leaving your sacred space.

The altar should face the North (the direction of Earth, representing the Goddess) or East (the direction of the rising sun and represents the God). At each of the four Watchtowers, place some sort of mark or object. North is Earth (bowl of salt, a crystal, or bowl of soil). East is Air (incense, flowers or a feather). South is Fire (red or orange candle, obsidian stone). West is water (a bowl of water or shell).

Take your athame or wand to the North. Trace the outline of the circle. Visualize energy extending out to the circle boundary. Do this 3 times. Say as you trace:

“I cast this circle to protect me from outside influences. I charge this circle to draw in only loving and helping vibrations. I create sacred space.”

When you return to the North, face toward your circle’s barrier. Raise your athame or wand. Say:

“God, Goddess and Guardians of the North. Powers of the Earth. I call you to attend my circle.”

Move to the East. Raise your wand or athame. Say:

“God, Goddess, and Guardians of the East, I call you to attend my circle.”

Move to the South. Raise your wand or athame. Say:

“God, Goddess, and Guardians of the South. Power of fire, I call you to attend my circle.”

Move to the West. Raise your wand or athame and say:

“God, Goddess, and Guardians of the West. Powers of water, I call you to attend my circle.”

Return to the altar and proceed with ritual work.

Circle Casting #1

Circle Casting #1

Stand in front of your altar with your athame or wand raised above your head. Ground and center to relax and become focused. Saying:

“I conjure ye, circle of power, so that you can be for me a boundary between the worlds of men and the realm of the mighty spirits. A Meeting place of trust, love and joy, containing the power I raise herein.”

Now go to the north side of the circle. Walk around the boundary 3 times with your athame or wand. Visualize a white energy or light coming from the tip to energize the circle and form a sphere of protection around you.

Return to the altar. Light the incense. Let the smoke fill your circle and visualize it cleansing the atmosphere. Say:

“The circle is cast. I am between the worlds, beyond the bounds of time. Where night and day, birth and death, joy and sorrow meet as one.”

Go to the Eastern quarter of the circle. Raise your arms high in salute. Say:

“Hail to the Guardians of the Watchtower of the East. By the air that is Her breath, send forth your light. Be here now.”

Trace an invoking pentagram in the air (an invoking pentagram starts at the top point and moves to the bottom left point).

Now move to the South. Say:

“Hail to the Guardians of the Watchtowers of the South. By the fire that is Her spirit, send forth your flame. Be here now.”

Trace an invoking pentagram in the air.

Now move to the West. Say:

“Hail to the guardians of the Watchtower of the West. By the waters of Her living womb, send forth your flow. Be here now.”

Trace an invoking pentagram in the air.

Now move to the North. Say:

“Hail to the Guardians of the Watchtowers of the North. By the Earth that is Her body, send forth your strength. Be here now.”

Trace an invoking pentagram.

Return to the altar. Say:

“Welcome all kind and wonderful spirits. The circle is cast. Let the ritual begin!”

Now perform the ritual you came before the Gods to do. Here is one way to close the circle.
Take the athame or wand from the altar. Walk counterclockwise around near the boundary. Draw the circle’s energy into the tool. When all is absorbed, return to the altar, ring the bell once or tap the altar and say:

“Let the circle now be open. Thank you wonderful spirits. Mother and Father for attending my circle. May we all go in peace and love. Blessed Be!”

Then stare into the flame and see all the negative energy being drawn into it. When the candle burns down to the water level, and the flame sputters out, say:

Breaking A Curse

Breaking A Curse

On the first night of the waxing moon, gather the following items:

A square of black cloth a little larger than your hand

1 tablespoon of curry

1 tablespoon of dill

1 tablespoon of vervain

1 tablespoon powdered ginger

1 consecrated black candle

Paper and black ink pen

1 black string, knotted nine times

On paper, write the full name and birth date (if known) of the person who has cursed you. Place the paper in the center of the bag. One at a time, add the herbs, covering the slip of paper. Next, take the lit candle and drip 5 – 10 drops of wax over the paper and herbs.

Visualize the person who has cursed you and say their name aloud three times while tying the bag shut with the knotted string. The final step is to bury the bag someplace on the property of the person who cursed you. The bag must remain there undisturbed until the next waxing moon. At that time, dig up the bag and burn the contents. This will weaken that person’s power (usually until the night of the full moon) and the curse.

Revive Your Magickal Powers

Revive Your Magickal Powers

On the night of the full moon, anoint a purple candle with vanilla oil. While anointing raise energy and focus it into the candle. See it glow with magick. Light the candle and go outside (if possible) or near a window where you can see the moon. Place the candle on the ground or windowsill. Reach your arms out to the moon and say:

“I ask for your power on this night,

By the powers of the stars above me.

So Shall It Be!”

Visualize your arms and hands soaking up the powers of the moon and into your body. Put out the candle and leave it on your altar overnight. The next morning, repeat the spell with this chant.

“Oh dear Lord of sky and sea,

Lead your magick into me,

By soil, wind, flame and sea,

This is my will.

So Mote It Be!”

Soak up the powers of the Sun. Go to your altar and light the purple candle from the night before and meditate on it until it burns out.

Conception of God

Conception of God

Author: Katie Koumatos

“How do you envision God?”
“As a witch, do you believe in God? In Jesus?”
“How can you have multiple Gods?”

When I talk to non-pagans about my spiritual beliefs, I get these questions a lot. I imagine this will only increase as I begin my time as a seminary student. While the community at Pacific School of Religion is open minded and welcoming to pagans, I imagine that there is still a lot of ignorance about pagan practices. Even within our community, there are a lot of discussions about how to approach the conceptualization of the divine. So let me share with you my own approach. After many years of searching, I found a beautiful metaphor that describes it perfectly.

Consider the ocean. For any of you who are lucky to have lived in a coastal town, it isn’t easy to imagine that we know the ocean. Growing up in San Diego, I spent many childhood days playing at the foot of the Great Pacific Ocean. As I learned how to spell and do long division, I also learned how to negotiate the fickle nature of the ocean, survive the rising tides and avoid the hidden dangers.

So it is easy to say I know the ocean. But what I actually know is one small piece. I have come to know the Pacific Ocean through half a dozen spots where it comes into contact with the land up and down the California Coast. I know the ocean at its boundaries, its borders. And even then, I only know THIS ocean and I only know it at THESE boundaries.

Every time I go to the ocean, even if I go to the very same beach, it is always a different ocean. Each wave falls differently along the sand, making small but powerful changes in the shape of the land. For me growing up in San Diego, the ocean was blue and relatively warm, playing along long flat beaches filled with sun worshiping beach-goers. The ocean of my adulthood is a colder ocean, breaking against the picturesque rocks of the Northern California coast. Up here the ocean is a grey and windy creature, with swirling and powerful tides. Up here I sit far above the ocean’s break, enjoying the view and the spray but rarely submerging myself in the water.

After many years, I have finally realized that God is like this.

The ocean is truly unknowable. We can list facts and send boats out to gather bits and return. But no human being will ever fully know the ocean. It is simply too vast, constantly changing, and so very deep. However, while the full ocean is unknowable, human beings from the beginning of time have had complex and important relationships with the ocean. We know her in our own spaces, at the boundaries of where she meets the land upon which we live.

Each human being who reaches out into the void seeking the divine cannot ever expect to understand the wholeness of God / Goddess / Universe / Great Spirit / the All. But in our little space, at the boundary between our short, incarnate existence and the vast eternity of divine energy, we find our face of God. Like the ocean, it changes over time, waves shifting the shape of our lives as we adjust and grow in our relationship. And while many people may gather at the same beach, but have different experiences of the ocean, so too may many people gather together in fellowship and yet remain separated by the different faces they see in God.

People can shape God as well, just as humans can shift the land where the ocean meets them. We shape the stories and the perceptions, the expectations and visual imagery. Over time this shaping can become powerful and deeply ingrained. But they are still open to interpretation.

We need these interpretations. The immensity of the divine energy is just too big to engage and feel the comfort and solace that religion offers. Having a personal relationship with God is only possible when God is squeezed down a bit, into a form that we can conceptualize having a personal relationship with. So we humanize the divine energy. Some religions are monotheistic, and give one face of God their full attention. While others simply spread out the realms of symbolic control, creating multiple faces and personalities for us to engage.

Whether your face of the divine is a multi-armed Hindu deity, the kami of the stream near your home, the Virgin of Guadalupe, or your own higher spirit, we are all just seeking a personified form to engage with. As we are made by divine energy, the worship and energy of human beings creates a real and tangible presence for the forms and faces that we have created for the divine. These faces of God are not stagnant, but they can and do exist separately and distinctly from our own personal experience because they are and have been conceived of by other human beings. With each ritual calling, we are making and remaking our Gods just as they are making and remaking us.

In the end, I believe that divine energy is the sum of all of us, along with all the animals and the plants and the whole wide universe. It is the spark of distant stars and the reproduction of the smallest bacteria. It is life and death and the shifting movement of existence here and everywhere, in this moment and in all moments before and after it. I believe that this whole is greater than the sum of these little parts and that collectively, we are conscious. I believe in a pattern, a tapestry of life in which we all play our part. We can make choices in this, but we have a part to play and there are pieces in our lives that guide us. And in all of this, different Gods are just convenient faces, ways to engage an unknowable energy.

The way I see it, God doesn’t care or even acknowledge the differences in our practices. Only human beings, with our limited sight and infinite distractions, could come up with a way to make such a small difference into a reason for centuries of war, dominance, and animosity.

Daily Horoscopes for Friday, February 24th

We have run out of patience and are no longer willing to engage in endless debate trying to find a common solution to a problem. Instead, today’s enterprising Aries Moon encourages us to solve a current dilemma by addressing our own needs first. This enlightened self-interest can loosen a logjam and get the energy flowing again. However, unforeseen consequences may create an emotional drama when the Moon squares ruthless Pluto later in the day.

Aries Horoscope
Aries Horoscope (Mar 21 – Apr 19)

You should be accustomed to the repetitive waves of energy that periodically surge through your life these days. But the Moon’s current visit to your sign is another reminder of the big changes ahead. You are quite excitable today and are easily overwhelmed by your emotions. Opening your heart to a friend will probably make you feel uncomfortable at first, but it could ultimately deepen your relationship.

Taurus Horoscope
Taurus Horoscope (Apr 20 – May 20)

Social commitments have piled up enough to make you realize that you don’t have much time to spare. You may need to clarify your boundaries by saying no if you’ve spread yourself too thin. But it isn’t that you want to be unsociable; it’s simply that you have too much on your plate. Avoiding unproductive distractions makes sense now, even if you are feeling restless; concentrate on your job and you’ll be through this crunch sooner than you expect.

Gemini Horoscope
Gemini Horoscope (May 21 – Jun 20)

You want others to believe that you’re eagerly embracing the future. You may pretend that all is well today, but you’re afraid of being judged if you hold on to the past. Although you’re usually pretty good at steering clear of unnecessary emotional drama, your impulsive actions could inadvertently stir up an uncomfortable level of intensity now. Being honest about your fears is the first step to healing your insecurities.

Cancer Horoscope
Cancer Horoscope (June 21 – Jul 22)

You were recently swimming in the waters of your own emotions, but now it seems as if you’re being pulled onto dry land. Instead of just experiencing your feelings, it’s time to act on them. Unfortunately, your actions could be constrained by memories of a past rejection that arises when you swing into motion. Take time to honor your past before pushing through the resistance. No matter what happens, you will feel positive about taking a chance and revealing what you want.

Leo Horoscope
Leo Horoscope (Jul 23 – Aug 22)

You feel a surge of confidence as the Moon visits your extroverted 9th House of Big Ideas. The fiery Aries Moon provides you with enough momentum to make new plans for the future, even if you haven’t yet processed what’s happening in the present moment. Fortunately, you don’t have to figure out everything all at once; release your current concerns gradually while time works its own magic.

Virgo Horoscope
Virgo Horoscope (Aug 23 – Sep 22)

You may be frustrated with your lack of productivity today because you’re itching for new experiences, even if you’re constrained by promises you made in a relationship. Nevertheless, something happens that reawakens your desires and concentrates your attention on the excitement of living. However, you cannot just let go of your commitments. Be wise and observe your dilemma without taking action; it’s best to make changes on another day rather than turning your life upside down now.

Libra Horoscope
Libra Horoscope (Sep 23 – Oct 22)

The Moon’s current visit to your 7th House of Relationships is a reminder of how difficult it is to be completely yourself when someone else is part of your life. Unfortunately, it’s challenging to define the line between love and codependency, especially because making other people happy comes so naturally to you. Although fulfilling your own needs might create stress, it also makes you a better partner in the long run.

Scorpio Horoscope
Scorpio Horoscope (Oct 23 – Nov 21)

You are walking close to an emotional edge today, but it’s best to keep your feelings to yourself. Your patience has run out and you are almost ready to do something that you’ll probably regret. It’s your choice; you don’t have to do it. There may be too much at stake to take an unnecessary risk now, so try working off your anxiety through exercise or hard work. You’ll feel much better if you channel your nervous tension into something positive.

Sagittarius Horoscope
Sagittarius Horoscope (Nov 22 – Dec 21)

You’re feeling lucky today which could tempt you to take an unnecessary risk. Maintaining a positive attitude is usually a wise decision, but it might be too much of a good thing now. A gamble won’t automatically lead to loss, but choosing a proven path improves your chances for success even more. Don’t be greedy and reach too far; set a realistic goal and then apply yourself diligently to reach it.

Capricorn Horoscope
Capricorn Horoscope (Dec 22 – Jan 19)

Although you can see into the distance now and have an ambitious plan to reach your goals, your foundation may be weak if you don’t trust your perceptions. You might be so self-critical that you think you won’t be able to sustain your productivity as you move into unfamiliar territory. You could exhaust yourself before you reach your destination if you are pushing too hard. Paradoxically, slowing down today can actually help you achieve success quicker than you think.

Aquarius Horoscope
Aquarius Horoscope (Jan 20 – Feb 18)

You may be running around in circles today, distracted by every little thing that comes along. However, instant karma gets you each time you wander and immediately puts you back on track. You don’t have a lot of time to waste if you want to complete the tasks that are on your plate. Thankfully, you could surprise yourself by how much you accomplish if you have clear intentions and stay focused on your goals.

Pisces Horoscope
Pisces Horoscope (Feb 19 – Mar 20)

This is a critical phase, for you recently embarked on an exciting new path. But you could run into problems today as someone blocks your way. You might even wonder if you’re heading in the right direction. However, there’s no reason to get discouraged; the current obstacles are meant to help you get serious about your work rather than stopping your progress. Don’t quit now; your follow-through is required to bring your project into the future.

Witches’ Protection Bottle Spell

Witches’ Protection Bottle Spell

Get a glass jar such as a Mason jar, or even a baby food jar, anything that has a lid to it. Fill the jar halfway with small sharp objects such as pins, metal scrapings, broken glass, razor blades, etc. Be careful when you are filling the jar! Once the jar is half full with these objects, fill the jar up with a holy water mixture of salt and water.

Put the top on the jar and be sure it’s secured.

This jar should be buried in the ground at least twelve inches deep.
As long as the bottle remains in the ground, you will be protected from harm that is sent your way. If you bury the jar somewhere away from home, and you wont know if it will still be there in a year (City Witches don’t always have backyards), then be sure to repeat this process each year.

Spell To Banish Anger

Spell To Banish Anger

This spell is performed beside flowing water. Anything from a small stream to a mighty river will do.

Ground and center as in other spells. Cast a circle by imagining a glowing circle of light surrounding you. Take a black stone and cup it in your hands. Raise it to your forehead, concentrating all of your anger and projecting it into the stone. Throw it as hard as you can into a body water, saying:

With this stone
Anger be gone.
Water bind it,
No one find it.

Ground or earth the power you drew upon at the beginning of the spell and open the circle.

LAVENDER LOVE LETTER

To write a successful love letter, rub the entire sheet of stationary with lavender before you start writing.
Use Dove’s blood ink when possible. If you use the Lavender and ink as prescribed the recipient will
be unable to resist whatever you ask or offer. This method can be used for business letters as
successfully as personal ones.

SPELL TO FIND THE IDEAL PARTNER

SPELL TO FIND THE IDEAL PARTNER

It involves a piece of amber, and a red cloth to carry it in.
For 7 days, one needs to hold the amber for at least a few minutes each day, and think about
the qualities that you want your ideal boyfriend or girlfriend to have.
By the 7th day, you should have met that person.
Of course, the spell isn’t to be used on a specific person
