Calendar of the Sun for February 10th

Calendar of the Sun

10 Solmonath

Anahita’s Day

Colors: Black and silver
Element: Air
Altar: Lay a cloth of black studded with silver stars, and on it set many white candles, and a great six-pointed silver star, a chalice of white wine, and a tray of star-shaped cookies.
Offerings: Paper stars written with reasons to hope.
Daily Meal: Star-shaped breads and cakes. Vegetables sliced into stars. Cold raw food.

Invocation to Anahita

Lady of the Morning Star
Who sings us awake
With a song of hope
For the daily road ahead,
Never let us fail
In our ability to keep faith.
Lady of the Evening Star
Who sings us to sleep
With a song of peace
For the nightly struggle,
Never let us fail
In our ability to dream.
Lady of the starry sky
Whose womb birthed the universe
That we might one day come to be,
Never let us fail
In our ability to hope
For the future of this world.

Chant: Ai ya Ai ya Anahita Anahita

(One who is chosen to do the work of the ritual comes forth with the cakes and passes them around, saying, “Taste matter and manifestation.” Then s/he comes forth with the white wine and passes it around, saying, “Taste the spirit that brings it to life.” The rest is given as a libation. Afterwards, all present place their paper stars on the altar and meditate on hope.)

Practice Scrying Makes Perfect

Practice Scrying Makes Perfect

Like all forms of divination, constant usage will bring better results. It may be slow going, so the following practice may help.

You will need a candle, preferably white, in a candle holder, a table, chair and most of all, a quiet place where you will not be disturbed for a while.

Prepare the candle as above. Make sure that you are not disturbed by closing or licking the door, drawing the blinds, or whatever is necessary for your peace of mind. If quiet music is appropriate, put on a tape of CD, making sure that it will not finish before you do. You may want incense although if you dress the candle with a fragrant oil, the smoke from incense will not distract you.

Light the candle then extinguish all lights. Draw a circle or image of a circle of protection around you and the table. Sit in the chair facing the candle. Make sure that you are in a comfortable position. Center and ground. When you feel ready, look at the candle flame. Observe the various colorings and shading in the flame. Notice the shape of the flame, how the bottom is wide and round and tapers up. See the round indentation near the wick, and the wavering tip where the got gasses move up and out.

Now look at the center of the flame while allowing your vision to broaden to see the halo, the aura, the corona around the flame. You may at this time see and feel the clouding from the sides of your vision moving in and blocking out everything else you could see in the room. There will be just blackness with the candle in the center. There is no reason for fear. Be assured that in surrendering your self at this time, will not make you vulnerable. You have the power to stop the exercise at any time. When you feel absolutely comfortable, continue.

Watch the aura of the candle glow. Use your mind to move the aura from smaller to larger. Increase the size of the aura as you make the candle flame get taller. Change the brightness of the flame from bright to dim and back again. Notice the color of the flame and change it. Make it into a rose color and gradually turn it into a blue flame and finally into gold.

After you have played with the flame for a while, sit back, relax, close your eyes if you need to. When you are ready, get up, take up the circle, mentally or physically. Turn on the lights and walk around. You may find that you are hungry or thirsty now. Satisfy this urge. Psychic work take up quite a bit of energy.

This exercise may not be completely successful the first time you do it, but it can be done on a regular basis to increase your abilities.

Let’s Talk Witch – The Art of Scrying

THE ART OF SCRYING

(L.< scruatari = to look at) is a form of divination which uses crystals, crystal balls, water, fire or other shiny objects of fascination as the focus.

Essentially, the person doing the scrying focuses attention on the tool being used and freeing the mind, allows thoughts, ideas, pictures as a television screen. The size of the picture depended upon the size of the object and like the TV, it had to be tuned in to get the best picture.

Learning to scry can be frightening to the uninitiated. It takes a certain amount of control as well as submission, to get results. What is meant is that when focusing on the tool, you must have your mind free of extraneous things, things that pull your attention away. You must also allow yourself to be open to impressions, and not be distracted with the clouds or vapors that form in the periphery of your vision. Trying to control the situation can interfere with the results, the control should be done before the scrying begins.

There are various tools that can be used. They are as follows:

1- The crystal ball. This is the most popular tool for scrying. The ball can be glass, crystal or plastic. The most common are balls formed from optical quality glass that are ground round and polished to be absolutely clear. The most expensive are those that are ground and polished quartz, amber or other clear material. The third and the least expensive are cast out of acrylic plastic. The plastic one scratches more easily and takes more care, but works non-the-less.

2- The scrying stone. This is a polished crystal that is usually worn around the neck. It is not necessary that the shape be a sphere. Since the shape is less important, a lot of individuality can be shown. The size, shape, color and personal preference produce a large variety of possibilities.

3- The Magic Mirror. This is a sheep of glass that is painted black on the back side. The most common magic mirror is a large clock face that is painted black on the convex side. Scrying is done by using the concave side.

4- The scrying cup. This is an ordinary tea cup that has the inside painted black. For scrying, water is poured into the cup and the person doing the scrying looks into the water.

5- Sometimes an ordinary bowl is used. Water is poured into the bowl and black ink is added to make a black opaque surface.

6- Fire. Some people are drawn into fire, such as a campfire. The red glow of the coals seem to move and dance and play out a fiery scene. The flame of a single candle works really well and can be used for exercise in scrying. More on this later.

Candle Dressing Oil

 Dressing Oil

Based on an oil recipe handed down to me for dressing candles before ritual

What you need:

2 dram (10mL) clean amber or cobalt vial sweet almond oil (has vitamin E
for preservation)
6 drops sandalwood mysore e.o.
3 drops myrrh e.o.
3 drops frankincense e.o.

Add the essential oils to the bottle and swirl them gently in order to get them
blended. Add any crystals (make sure they are clean too) and then add your base
oil to top the bottle off. I don’t use crystals in all my blends but some people
add crystals to their magical blends to keep them charged with a specific
intention. Make sure to keep the oils stored away from light and write on a
sticker or piece of paper to be taped on the name of the blend, time, date, moon
phase, planetary hour and any other info you wish so that you know what you made and when for use later. As well, be careful as these blends will eventually go off so use your sniffer and be aware of what the blend should smell like. Once
it seems off, you can discard it, clean the bottle and start a fresh! Make sure
it is completely clean and if it cannot be completely cleaned, discard and use a
fresh one.
Remember – essential oils can cause reactions and oils like citrus can cause
photosensitivity so please – be careful ~ Herbs can be dangerous.

Essential oils are volatile so bottles left with tops off will soon lose their
potency. Ensure that oils don’t get too hot and, in the case of oils like
citrus-based oils, not too cold. To test your essential oils to see if they are
pure, put a drop or two on blotter paper. Genuine essential oils will evaporate
completely.

Dressing A Candle

Dressing A Candle

Candles have been used for many many years in rituals, to set an atmosphere and help to focus on a desired result of a the ritual.  Here are steps to to take
when dressing a candle for a ritual or for requesting a desired result. When
working with candles, you will see that no two candles are alike, they each
have their own character. (drip, flame, sound )

* Choose the candle to be used : type and color ( green for money, black/
white for cleansing).

* Cleanse the candle from prior energies. Here are some suggestions for
cleansing:
A: Holy water
B: Sea salt
C: Pure soap
D: Baby oil

* Bless / Consecrate your oil to be used.

* State and engrave (if desired) what the candle is to represent (money,
love, job, taking away unwanted habits, etc.)

* Anoint the candle with the oil you have chosen (it is important to focus on
your desire when doing this).
A: — To achieve : start on the top to the middle in a downward
motion(stop) then go the bottom to the middle in an upward motion(stop).
B: — To banish : start in the middle to top (stop) then go from the middle
to the bottom (stop).
Do not use a back and forth motion, it defeats the purpose.

* Bless / Consecrate the candle.

Your candle is now ready to use. Light your candle with an incense of your
desire or deity. Do not use matches, a lighter or incense should be used.
honestly I know not why, just that the sulfur is the problem. But every
book  I have read states this, and I have read many.)

Meditate as long as possible (many don’t have a lot of time past 15min.) on
your desired outcome while your candle is burning. Let the candle burn till the
end.

If and when you need to extinguish your candle, snuff it out or swipe your
hand enough to let the air blow it out. Do not blow or pinch it out. As blowing
it out blows your desires away from you and pinching it out also pinches out
your desires.

Today’s Tarot Card for February 8th is Judgment

Judgment

Saturday, Feb 8th, 2014

What has traditionally been known as the Judgement card, sometimes entitled Resurrection, represents the great reunion that the ancients believed would happen once in every age. This was the time when souls are harvested and taken Home to their place of origin, outside the solar system. Then the World is seeded with a batch of new souls and the process starts over.

From a modern point of view, this great reunion — which includes every personality that you have ever been and every soul that you have done deep work with — reunites to consciously complete the process. In a way, we symbolically celebrate this returning to center every year on our birthday.

In personal terms, the Judgment cards points to freedom from inner conflicts, and so clear a channel, that the buried talents and gifts of past incarnations can come through an individual in this lifetime. This card counsels you to trust the process of opening yourself, because what emerges is of consistently high quality. You can effortlessly manifest as a multi-dimensional being, and assist in evoking that response from others.

Your Charm For Today

Aries the Ram

Today’s Meaning:

This aspect of your life will be strongly influenced by a person who is adventurous, energetic, pioneering, courageous, enthusiastic, confident, dynamic and quick-witted. This person is probably someone you already know and respect.

General Description:

First sign of the Zodiac, March 21st to April 20th. Mars the ruling planet, and Iron the correct metal. Those born under the influence of Aries were supposed to be brave, ambitious, optimistic, confident, and fond of adventure. The Aries gems are the Diamond, Jasper, and blood stone. The Diamond was always regarded with much veneration in olden times, and was worn to make its wearer bold and daring. Napoleon Bonaparte had the celebrated Regent or Pitt Diamond (136 carats, valued at about 500,000 lbs.) set in the hilt of his sword. At one time it was believed that the wearing of very large diamonds brought ill-luck and misfortune on the wearer.

Your Ancient Symbol Card for February 5th is Altruism

Your Ancient Symbol Card for Today

Altruism

Altruism denotes the noble act of giving to those in need without the expectation of a return. The act of giving has been seen as one of humankind’s greatest attributes throughout history. It is honored in nearly every culture. To give is a gift to both those who receive and those who give. Giving is usually associated with addressing the material needs of others, but the gift given can take many forms such as wisdom or protection or simply a shoulder to cry on.

As a daily card, Altruism suggests there are those around you in need of things you can give them. It is a time for you to address the needs of another, or others without regard of profit or acknowledgement of your contribution.

This is probably the most popular of charms. You will be protected in this aspect. No one will be able to harm you or your state of being.

The Cross has always been a favorite device. It was used by the sun-worshippers as a symbol of the sun, and their warriors carried the Cross upon their shields. In olden days kings and nobles, when they could not write, used the sign of the Cross. That sign was used in breaking spells and for protection from evil spirits. In the East the Cross has been used as a talisman from time immemorial. The Eastern Cross as illustrated was worn as a charm against sickness, accidents and witchcraft, also to attract good fortune. Sentences from the Koran were often inscribed upon the small pendants to make the charm still more potent.

The Witches Spell for Jan. 4th – Honey Jar & Candle Spell

Witchy Comments & Graphics

Honey Jar & Candle Spell

This magic spell can be worked on anyone’s name you want to sweeten. Depending on what relationship the person has to you, what special items you put into the name-packet, the colour of candle you choose, and the oil you dress it with, this trick will cause the person you name to like you more, to love you more, to favour your petition, to want to help you, to be sympathetic to your cause, or to forgive any wrongs you have committed. It can be used to influence and sweeten a judge in a court case, a loan officer at the bank, a boss from whom you want a raise, a teacher in your school from whom you want a good grade, a lover with whom you want a reconciliation, an in-law who has been back-biting you, or friend who has cut you off because of a foolish quarrel.

The following ingredients are needed
a jar of sweetener (see below)
a piece of paper
a pen
optional herbs, curios, and/or bodily concerns (see below)
a candle (choose the appropriate colour at the candle magic page)
a candle-dressing oil such as Special Oil No. 20 or Love Me oil

Get a small jar of sweetener. This can be honey, Karo Syrup, Crystal Syrup, home-made brown sugar syrup, Log Cabin Syrup, Vermont maple syrup, Bre’r Rabbit Blackstrap Molasses or whatever you desire — as long as it is in a container with a metal lid. You can buy the goods in a pint-size glass Mason jar or pour the sweetening of your choice into a jar of your own at home. All that matters is that it should be a short, squat jar with a metal lid, filled up to the shoulder of the jar.

In the old days, when skin colour was a lot more important to people than it is now, it was recommended that the colour of the sweetener match the skin of the person you wanted to sweeten. Thus, for a white judge, you might use Crystal Syrup, and for a Latino loan officer you might use light brown sugar syrup, and for a dark-skinned lover you might use Bre’r Rabbit Blackstrap Molasses. Frankly, these days specifying a person’s skin colour is not as meaningful as it once was (for which we can all be thankful), and today many folks prefer to use honey for the spell, no matter what the target’s skin colour is, because it is a natural sweetener and not man-made. I believe that if you just follow your own intuition and decide which sweetener you like the best, you can be confident that you have made the right choice.

Next, prepare your paper. Again, in the old days, we would be told to use white paper for a white person, tan paper for a high-brown, and rough old grocery-bag paper for a person of dark colour, but these days the type of paper you use can simply be a matter of personal style. I use the smooth, tan-coloured light-weight shopping bag paper because that is my choice, based on the way i was taught, which was that such paper is “pure paper” and better than parchment from the art-supply store. I prepare my paper by tearing it neatly on all four sides so there is no machine-cut edge. Of course some folks prefer parchment paper more, and they trim it square with scissors — and the spell still works for them. So go ahead and prepare your paper just as you wish and that will suffice.

Once you have got your paper together, write the person’s name three times on it, one name under the other like so

John Russell Brown John Russell Brown John Russell Brown Then you rotate the paper 90 degrees and write your own name across the person’s name, also three times: Abigail Samantha Little Abigail Samantha Little Abigail Samantha Little The result will be that the two names are crossed over each other, like a cross or a tic-tac-toe grid, and the other person’s name will be under yours. This is called crossing and covering their name. If the sweetening is being done for love, you can use a red ink pen. Otherwise, the colour of the ink does not matter. Now all around the crossed names, write your specific wish in a circle. If you need a guideline, lightly sketch the circle-shape with a pencil and then follow around it when writing with your ink pen. You must write your wish in one continuous run of script letters, with no spaces — AND WITHOUT LIFTING YOUR PEN FROM THE PAPER. Do not cross your t’s or dot your i’s. Just write the words in one run and be sure to join up the end of the last word with the beginning of the first word so the circle is complete. Then you can go back and cross your t’s and dot your i’s. To make it easy to connect the word together at the end, i have found it best to make my petition in the form of short commands, such as “help me favour me help me favour me” or “love me love me love me” or “forgive me come back forgive me come back.”

If you make a mistake — for instance, if you lift your pen in the middle of writing your petition-circle — throw away the paper and start it all over again. You want it to be perfect.

Other ingredients can be added to the name-paper if you wish — a piece of court case root for a court case spell, two rose petals for a love spell, a lump of sugar for a family member, two clove buds for friendship, bayberry root or sassafras root for a money spell, a pair of Adam-and-Eve roots for love, two small Lodestones for sexuality, a pinch of deer’s tongue leaves for a proposal of marriage, a square of camphor for cleaning out bad things of the past, and so forth.

If you are sweetening someone for love, then in addition to the name-paper and whatever optional herbs, roots, or minerals you choose, you must also get one of the person’s hairs and one of your hairs. If the hairs are long enough, tie them together. Otherwise, just lay them crosswise to each other. In either case, place them on the name-paper. Don’t ask me what to do if you can’t get their hairs ’cause i can’t help with that. Either work the spell without the hairs and expect a much lower rate of success or get the hairs! Don’t load the paper up with lots of other stuff thinking that if you can’t get the hairs that six different love-herbs and two lodestones will be as strong as two hairs. They won’t be.

Fold the paper toward you to bring what you want your way and speak aloud your wish as you do so. Turn the paper and fold it again, and again, always folding toward you, to bring what you want your way. Speak aloud your wish each time you fold the paper toward you. Fold it until it will not fold any more.

Open the jar of honey or syrup. To make room for the folded paper packet, you will need to eat some of the contents. Take out a spoon’s worth, and as you eat it, say, “As this honey [or syrup] is sweet to me, so will i become sweet to John Russell Brown [or the name of the person you are working this on].” You can do this three times — taking out three small spoonsful of sweetener and speaking your wish aloud each time. Push the folded paper packet down into the jar and close up the lid.

Dress an offertory candle (a 50 cent, 6″ long candle or a 25 cent 4″ long one, nothing fancy) with an appropriate anointing oil, or use Special Oil No. 20, which is specifically indicated in this type of spell. Use a white candle for general blessing and healing, a red one for sexual love, a pink one for reconciliation, a brown one for a court case, and so forth. (For a longer list of colour symbolism, see the page on candle magic.)

Stand the candle on the lid of the closed-up jar and light it. You can melt the candle to the lid with hot wax if need be.

Let the candle burn all the way out. Do this every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, for as long as it takes. Add teach new candle on top of the remains of the last one. I have seen people’s syrup-jar spells like this done for court cases that were continued for so long and required so many candles that you could not see the jar under all the dripped-on wax!

Let’s Talk Witch – Your Sacred Clothing

Witchy Comments & Graphics

Let’s Talk Witch – Your Sacred Clothing

Many practitioners will not enter or use their sacred space unless they are cloaked in a special garment created by their own hands and consecrated for spiritual use. This robe is unique and special to each person who desires to honor their beliefs in this fashion. A cloak can be consecrated for specific purposes. So you can have more than one cloak, depending on what type of ritual you will be conducting in your sacred space.Self clothing isn’t the only garments you want to consider for your space. An altar cloth is also called for. You can use more than one cloth in varying colors and patterns, depending on the work at hand. But consider the use of the cloth before you cover the altar. If you are going to be mixing herbs, or creating spiritual objects such as handmade candles, smudge sticks or spiritual tools, then you want the cloth to be inexpensive and practical. If however, you are conducting a ritual to celebrate a holiday, then you might use a more formal cloth, anything from crushed velvet to black satin.

The cloth should reflect your personality, your beliefs and one that you feel comfortable with using. A male Witch for instance, may not use Victorian lace when casting spells for compassion, healing or love. Rather he might use something that strikes an essence of romance in his heart such as red silk. Whatever you chose to use, the cloth should be large enough to cover the entire altar and fit the work at hand.
