The name Taurus is the Latin definition for the Bull, the May 7 zodiac sign. The Italians call it Toro while the Spanish say it is Tauro.

Oi/Oir

Oi, sometimes representing the Th sound, is Oir, the Spindle tree, which was used to make bobbins and pegs, as well as (obviously) spindles. This dainty little tree is misleading–while it looks delicate, it’s also very strong. The durability and strength of the wood made it useful for oxen-goads, which were used in ploughing. The white flowers and bright red autumn fruits, connect the Spindle tree to the hearth and home, as well as the bonds of kinfolk and clan.

Oir Correspondences

Mundane Aspects: When this symbol appears, focus on family honor. Remember that in addition to blood family members, we have people that we choose to invite into our hearts, our spiritual family members. Fulfill obligations you may have to people you love, whether you have been planning for or not. Don’t be afraid to ask questions, but ultimately, do what’s right for those who enjoy the hospitality of your hearth.

Magical Aspects: Work on developing a connection not only to the people in your clan, but in the greater spiritual community. Remember that differing tribes still have to work together for a common purpose, and that means someone has to assume the role of mediator when conflicts arise. If you’re active in the Pagan community, or in a specific group, this may fall to you.

Two

Considered the most cooperative of the single-digit numbers, the 2 is often the most underestimated.

Known as the peacemaker, the 2 is almost always gentle, tactful, diplomatic, forgiving, and non-confrontational.

However, the shape of the 2 gives us a clue to its resilience and ability to survive. This symbol, as if bowing in servitude, could easily be perceived as weak and powerless. But when the humble 2 is under attack, even burdened by a crushing weight, its flexible nature allows it to bounce back quickly.

This is in stark contrast to the power and pride of the bold 1, who is unlikely to back down. (The competitive, bold, individualistic nature of the 1 makes it strong, but its rigid posture can shatter under prolonged pressure.)

People in leadership positions – often individuals with a well positioned 1 in their chart – recognize the value of their calm, thoughtful friend. The 2 is often the real power behind the throne.

The 2 understands the underlying motivation driving the people around them.

The ability to understand others helps them navigate divergent opinions and ideas, giving a little here, taking a little there. Many psychotherapists, skilled at reading human nature, have a strong 2 in their chart.

Patient and unassuming, individuals with a prominent Number 2 people don’t always get the recognition they deserve but they tend to hold a special place in the hearts and minds of those who know them.

The number 2 is recognized for its grace, sophistication, style, and taste in art and music. Dancers often carry this number due to its inherent sense of rhythm. In social environments, the 2 is a good conversationalist with a witty, self-depreciating sense of humor (never slapstick or juvenile as they are too sophisticated for that).

Every coin has two sides.

If the Greek god Zeus could be compared to the number 1, his wife (and sister) Hera would represent the number 2. Like Hera, the number 2 can be jealous and mean-spirited when others reach for something they covet.

As gentle and loving as Hera is much of the time, another side of her emerges when she feels mistreated – a side that can be vengeful, cruel, and unrelenting. The number 2 can also be critical and verbally abusive, with bouts of bad temper (for trivial reasons… for extended periods of time).

Normally skilled at negotiation, emotional periods can find the 2 exhibiting illogical reasoning, making verbal arguments feel like slicing water with a knife. Quarrels often stem from the hurt feelings of this overly sensitive number.

Celtic Shield Knot

The Celtic shield knot is used for warding and protection. Shield knots have appeared in cultures around the world and have taken a variety of different forms. They are almost universally square in shape, and the knotwork of the design ranges from simple to complex. In the Celtic version, a series of knots is formed. In other cultures, such as the early Mesopotamian era, the shield is simply a square with a loop at each of the four corners.

Fans of Celtic artwork occasionally get variations of this piece as tattoos or wear them as talismans of protection. In modern Celtic reconstructionist groups, the shield knot is sometimes invoked as a ward to keep negative energy away. In some traditions, the corners of the knot are meant to represent the four elements of earth, air, fire, and water, although it’s important to note that Celtic spirituality is usually based upon the three realms of earth, sea, and sky.

If you’re interested in following a Celtic Pagan path, there are a number of books that are useful for your reading list. Although there are no written records of the ancient Celtic people, there are a number of reliable books by scholars that are worth reading.

King of Wands – Minor Arcana Court Card

The King of Wands is pure fire energy, but strangely enough, he has the least to do with actual creation and creativity. His forte is not in dreaming up ideas and implementing them himself, but in taking an idea and changing the world to match his vision. As such he is a natural leader and commander of all kinds of people. They flock to him to hear what he has to say and leave just as eagerly when he gives them something to do for him. Like the rest of the Kings, the ruler of the Wands suit will appear in two ways in your life: either as a person or as a part of yourself that must be awakened.

As a person, the King of Wands is the ultimate leader, who looks forward to challenges because he enjoys the rush of adrenalin that solving a difficult problem can induce. He not only dispels his own fear but that of others, by ensuring them that they shall succeed. He is not all talk, though; when the going gets tough no one hangs in there longer than he does. The King of Wands has a deep and innate respect for other people, and his compassion extends farther than most people would expect. For a King, he has a remarkably good relationship with the common people. When he is unable to assist by himself, he will empower and enable others to help in his place.

As with all of us, the King’s faults emerge from his strengths. Most of the time he does not show enough restraint to know when assistance is not needed or wanted. He can sometimes make things even worse by doing what he thinks is the right thing – and he always thinks that what he is doing is the right thing. Most of the time his high sense of ethics proves him right, but in those few times where he is on the wrong side of the argument, he can do more harm than good. But one thing that can never be said of him is that he walks away from problems, whatever they are. He will defend another man just as vigilantly, if not more so, than he would protect himself.

An inner spiritual change is often heralded when this card appears. The King of Wands invites us to act as he would to solve our problems. His vision is one of ideal reality, and his vision is that humanity might always be better than it is. He is the warrior of light who stands up for something that matters, and his appearance is an invitation for you to do so as well. If there is a cause you wish to support, but you are unsure of your position, you may proceed with the knowledge that your base of power is strong. Enjoy the King’s power and authority, but be sure to use it for productive means. Take your responsibilities seriously, think of new ways to do things, and never stop believing in yourself.

Huathe-Hawthorn

The Celts often believed the hawthorn to be a portal to the Otherworld. The hawthorn is a hardy plant commonly used for hedges and great firewood. It can even be an invasive species at times. The key points to remember with the letter Huathe are obstacles, walls, and obstructions. Its ability to form a natural wall gives the diviner an idea in what this symbol can mean to them and their lives.

Fortune – To overcome obstacles and walls you must make a personal sacrifice, to gain we must lose something of ourselves!

Tarot Card

Tarot card reading comes from The Celtic Dragon Tarot by D. J. Conway. With art done by Lisa Hunt. This deck is unique as the cards are never read in reverse.

Ace of Cups – Minor Arcana

Joy; fertile period

Baby dragons are hatching out of a nest floating on the waters of a gentle stream below a waterfall. One hatched baby is looking at her reflection in the water, while another leans contently against her. A third baby is struggling out of its shell, while a fourth is settling itself for a peaceful nap. All humans, at whatever stage of life, begin their seeking for spiritual and/or emotional growth and knowledge with the naivete and innocence of children. They are innocent of the difficulties and perils that might lie ahead and at the same time enthusiastic to get started on their journey. Some get caught up in admiring themselves and what they believe they can do, while others are content just to bask in the sunlight and lean on others. Still others struggle through obstacles and become stronger for this. This struggles reflected in the faces on the rock. The waterfall and chalice are symbolic of the endless stream of lives that proceed from and return to the Goddess and God.

Divinatory Meaning: New beginnings in your life will fill you with joy and contentment. Your spiritual growth will expand and take you to a higher level of understanding. There is the possibility of a new love. This card can also herald a possible pregnancy, so take care if this is not what you want. This can also foretell a fertile period for ideas.

Animal Spirt Guide card comes from Messages from Your Animal Spirit Guides Oracle Cards by Steven D. Farmer

Animal Spirit Guide or Helper

Condor – “You’re too enmeshed in this situation, so step back and see the bigger picture before making any decisions or taking action”

You’ve lost perspective here because you either believe there’s something that you absolutely need to have happen or else you’re simply being too stubborn to let go, step back, and take a fresh look at circumstances. It’s the forest versus the trees dilemma: You’re too close to clearly discern the reality of what’s actually taking place. So make a practice of detachment. Most people think of this as a cold, sterile way of responding to a situation or person, but nothing id further from the truth. It’s far worse to remain so utterly involved and entangled that you lose perspective — and sometimes even your self! This all-too-familiar pattern stems from the guilty feeling that some how you’re not doing enough unless you completely immerse yourself into the problem or person, continually trying to fix the situation or rescue the individual involved. While this may give you a temporary sense of satisfaction, doing so also creates unhealthy dependencies — yours and others.

True detachment is objective compassion, a state of mind and heart where you still care very much but are distanced enough so that you’re not under the illusion that you can somehow control the situation or person through your participation or intervention. In any situation or conversation, follow these four simple guidelines. First, be 100 percent present and attentive; second, speak your truth (or maintain a dignified silence); third, keep the focus on what’s really important and what really matters; and fourth, let goof any attachment to outcome. These four steps will help keep your perspective while remaining compassionately involved and detached at the same time. You can still wield your influence by stating your prefer–whether strong or mild–without insisting on getting your own way. Express yourself and see what happens, all the while honoring and respecting others.

Uhr/Ura

U (sometimes W) is Uhr or Ura, the Heather plant, which symbolizes passion and generosity. This ground-covering plant grows on top of peat in the moors of the Celtic lands. The blossoms are full of rich nectar and are very attractive to bees, which are seen in some traditions as messengers to and from the spirit world. Uhr is associated with both generosity and healing, as well as contact with the Otherworld.

Historically, the Picts used the flowers of the Heather plant to make a fermented ale–the natural sweetness of the plant probably made this delicious! It is also known to bring good fortune, particularly the white variety of Heather. A number of Scottish clansmen tucked Heather in their bonnets before going into battle. From a practical standpoint, Heather was also harvested to use for thatching. Dyes and brooms were made from it as well; if you make a besom of your own, use some Heather for the bristles.

Medicinally, Heather has been used to treat everything from consumption to “agitated nerves.” The great Scottish poet Robert Burns advocated its use in “Moorland Tea,” brewed from the harvested flowers.

Uhr Correspondences

Mundane Aspects: When this symbol appears, it means it’s time to de-stress. Look inside yourself for healing if your body needs it, and don’t delay. Listen to what your physical self is telling you. Remember how closely our physical well-being and emotional health are tied together.

Magical Aspects: Blend the energy of the spirit with the healing of the body. Focus on whole healing–body, mind and spirit–to build a healthy soul. Meditate on this symbol to increase your spiritual awareness. If you’re feeling a bit fragmented, mentally, burn some Heather to help you gather your thoughts back together.

Number 5

The most vibrant, freedom-loving of all numbers in numerology

The Numerology Meaning of the Number 5: A DYNAMIC FORCE

The 5 is unpredictable, always in motion, and constantly in search of change.

Although it is molded from an almost equal mix of freedom-loving and loyal characteristics, the 5 is slightly more daring, and there is nothing submissive about it.

The 5 is extremely independent in mind and soul.

For an adventurer and risk-taker who has a hard time staying in one place, one job, or one relationship, the 5 is surprisingly loyal when the right partner comes along.

The 2 and the 6 are known as the most harmonious relationship numbers. Still, both will cheat on a partner when temptation is strong enough. The 5 will not. The 5 may break off a relationship due to their restless nature, but they will rarely deceive a partner. Although, when they are not in a committed relationship, they have no problem dating a different person every day of the week

The 5 generally doesn’t find a suitable career until they’ve tried several different jobs, some barely lasting long enough to warrant a full paycheck. This is especially true if there is monotonous routine involved; boredom sets in quickly for the 5 who simply cannot stand predictable, repetitive work.

But again, the 5 will surprise friends and family once they find their niche. This usually happens after age 30 when their focus, energy, and quick mind help them scramble up the ladder (faster, and with less apparent effort, than those around them).

Many 5s choose careers that require travel or otherwise offer a regular change of environment. People working in the travel industry, small business owners, independent consultants, lawyers, and those in sales often have the 5 in their core numbers.

The 5 can adjust quickly to pretty much anything coming their way.

The 5 is versatile, adaptable, intelligent, progressive, and tolerant. Convention bores them, and they are easily drawn to the eccentrics and misfits of society.

A social creature, the 5 is funny and uplifting, good at making others feel comfortable around them. They are generally well-liked and often surrounded by friends and acquaintances. However, they can also be polarizing, so people that are typically uptight, self-righteous, or judgmental are quickly aggravated by them.

Perhaps the most dominating trait of the 5 is the uncompromising demand for freedom in thought and action.

People with a prominent 5 in their core numbers make up their own mind, rebel against dogma and ideology, and recoil from clubs, cults, and religious sects. Their adventurous, daredevil nature may include riding motorcycles, but they will not typically ride with a large group. Chances are a 5 will be opinionated and passionate about political issues, but will remain independent of formal political parties.

A 5 may change their mind (regularly) but not without good reason. They won’t be controlled but are flexible and can be converted if the argument makes sense. The 5 has a healthy sense of humor and doesn’t sweat the small things. They carry their heart on their sleeve, and it’s not uncommon to give that heart to the wrong person – they are not always the best judge of character.

On the negative side, the 5 can be selfish, thoughtless, and irresponsible.

Rarely considering the future beyond next week, worrying is not in their nature. The 5 tends to procrastinate and can be unreliable. However, their most common downfall is a tendency to experiment with sex, drugs, alcohol, and other addictions. A desire for instant gratification, lack of restraint, and their feeling of invulnerability can be a recipe for disaster.

The shape of numbers reflect their nature, and just as the 4 is square and grounded, the 5 is a symbol of dynamic energy, elastic and constantly in motion.

Breaking Spells – Candle Pentagram

You’ll need to set this spell out on a table or altar space that won’t be disturbed for the duration of the spell. Your supplies are:

  • Salt (fine, not coarse)
  • 5 white candles
  • Rosemary (oil or herbs)

On your table, sprinkle a fine line of salt to draw a pentacle. It doesn’t have to be perfect but try to get it somewhat symmetrical. At each point of the star, add a few drops of rosemary oil or a sprinkle of dry rosemary (yes, right on the table top). Then set 1 white candle at each point.

Light each candle, starting with the one at the top. After each one, say the words:

By the dark and the light
Your spell ends tonight

Let the candles burn for one hour, then snuff them out. Do the same thing the next time, except let them burn all the way out.

Leave the candle stubs in place for another 5 days, so the entire spell is in place for a week. After that, any negative magick against you will be gone.

If curse breaking spells aren’t exactly what you are looking for, there are banishing spells or binding spells that might be more suitable for your situation.

The Devil – Major Arcana

The Devil Tarot card depicts Satyr God as a half human–half goat creature, dancing to the sound of the trumpet that he holds in his left hand. In many myths, the goat is considered as an animal that is not clean and full of lewdness. However, the goat also symbolizes a person who is unfairly accused, or a person/a creature feels better comparing himself to the incompetent. Therefore, he is the one we blame for the difficulties in our lives. Shadow images and cave without doors indicate that he resides in the most distant realm of consciousness, and only the crisis can penetrate these walls.

There are two beads in his right hand, each worn around the neck of one of the two naked. These people consisted of a man and a woman, wearing little horns which are the same as Satyr. The necklaces around their necks are very wide and their hands are not tied. They can take the initiative to lose themselves but they choose not to let that happen. This symbolizes that the dependence on the Devil is ultimately a voluntary issue where consciousness can be liberated

The number 15 has the sum of the units equal to 6, the number corresponding to the Lovers card, and here the Lovers are bound, depending on the material and sexual of nature. The zodiac of the Devil Tarot card is the Capricorn.

Ailim/Ailm

A is for Ailim, or Ailm, the Elm tree. Interestingly, this group also includes the Pine or Fir trees. These giants of the forest are symbols of perspective and height, rising above those that surround us. The Elm has a clear vision of that which surrounds it, as well as that which is approaching.

In Britain and Scotland, Elm trees grew very tall and straight, making them popular for use as a Maypole during Beltane celebrations. In addition to this, they were popular as property markers–you knew you had reached someone else’s land boundary when you crossed a line of Elm trees. Elm is flexible and bendy, so it doesn’t make a very good building material, but it does withstand water very well, so it eventually became popular for use in making flatboats and wheels. In Wales, early bowmen used the Elm in construction of longbows.

Ailim Correspondences

Mundane Aspects: When this symbol appears, it means it’s time to start looking at the big picture; see the trees, but also acknowledge the forest. Be aware that your perception includes long-term goals and ideas, and prepare for what may be coming along the path.

Magical Aspects: Mark your progress well as you grow and develop spiritually. As you attain new levels of wisdom, look at the future and see where this new knowledge will take you. Also recognize that there will be others following in your footsteps, so make yourself available to guide them and give them a hand when they need it.

Straith/Straif

This symbol, used for the sound St, is Straith (sometimes seen as Straif), the Blackthorn tree. A symbol of authority and control, the Blackthorn is connected to strength and triumph over adversity. Blackthorn is a tree (although some might argue it’s more of a really big shrub) of winter, and its berries only ripen after the first frost. White flowers appear in the spring, and the bark is black and thorny.

On a medicinal level, Blackthorn berries–sloe berries–are brewed to make a tonic (this is what Sloe Gin is made from). The tonic can be used as a laxative and/or diuretic, as well as a skin astringent. In folklore, the Blackthorn has a fairly unpleasant reputation. An English legend refers to a devastating winter as a “Blackthorn Winter.” It also represents the darker side of magic and witchcraft. Because it’s a plant that becomes hardy when all around it is dying, it is associated with the Dark Mother, the Crone aspect of the Goddess, particularly the Cailleach in some parts of Scotland and Ireland. There is also a strong connection to the Morrighan, because of Blackthorn’s association with the blood and death of warriors. In fact, in early Celtic culture, the Blackthorn was popular for its use in the cudgel shillelagh.

Straith Correspondences

Mundane Aspects: Expect the unexpected, especially when it comes to change. Your plans may be altered, or even destroyed, so plan to deal with it. The appearance of Straith often indicates the influence of external forces.

Magical Aspects: You’re at the beginning of a new journey, and there will be some surprises–possibly unpleasant ones–along the way. Overcoming these obstacles will give you strength. Realize that you–and your life–are changing.

If your life path number is 7, your life will be predominantly influenced by your mind. Whether it’s intellectual pursuits, philosophical discourses, or a deep spiritual/meditative life through your 7th chakra, you are made for it. You would make a great professor, philosopher or a guru. Because you are too much in the head, you may find yourself alien to matters of the heart. It isn’t easy – you just don’t get the clues, or don’t know how to give them out. You avoid emotions, and if your partner feels them naturally, you may blame them for being hysterical, when in fact they are being just natural. TAROT CARD

Today’s Tarot card reading comes from The Green Witch Tarot Deck and The Green Witch Tarot Companion by Ann Moura. With the art done by Kiri Ostergaard Leonard. Copyright 2015 Pages 65 and 66

The Oak King – Major Arcana

The Oak King hangs upside down by his heel, which is wedged between branches of an oak tree. He is comfortable, casual, and relaxed as he contemplates his vital role within the infinite passage of time, tracing on the ground below him the perpetual cosmic lemniscate within the circle of the year. His position reflects the infinity symbol as he anticipates the familiar cycle of change, when the Oak King transitions into the unborn infant within the womb of Mother Earth, surrendering his reign to himself as the Holly King, the Sage who will rule until the Oak King is reborn at Yule. The lemniscate shows that the God’s endless cycle of life and authority is a harmonious interaction of light and shadow, demonstrating that life itself moves through the seasons of its own, an he is the guide.

This card offers the opportunity to meditate or focus inward and determine what needs to be released to make room for what needs to be brought in, and what needs to be retained. This can be an external or internal housecleaning, deciding what is unnecessary in one’s life, what is worthy of being kept, and what is new and beneficial. Here is a time when the conscious and subconscious may communicate, discovering what is desired and what is no longer necessary in one’s life.

The matter of change is in the tenuous phase of transition, requiring thought and the willingness to let go of the outmoded in order to reach achievement in some area of life. This is the stage of determining what foundation will be laid for the future and what new venture or outlook should begin. When this card appears in a reading, one is advised to take the time to consider the various options, pull together resources, and bring everything into balance before proceeding. Just as spell materials are set on a pentacle during magic work for grounding and manifestation in the physical world, so too should one prepare for what materialize.

Meaning: Paused activity, transition, meditation, weighing options, inner peace, patience, deciding what changes to make, self-sacrifices for gains.

Prompt Words: Introspection, inner peace.

Animal Spirit Guide or Helper

Chimpanzee

“Use both your intuition and your intellect to solve the problem or get answers to your questions”

When your intuition and intellect are in harmonious accord with each other, there’s no problem that you can’t resolve. The combination emerges as creative intelligence, an elegant blend of your capacity for reasoning coupled with a deep trust in your gut feelings. In the flow of thought and action that results in resolving your question or problem this way, you may surprise yourself as to how simple and effective the answer really is.

Your intuition is actually a constellation of physical cues that response the subtle body language, voice intonations, and energetic quality of the people or situations around you, often felt in your gut but not confined to that area. It’s your instinct communicating—an aspect of your animal nature that’s cued in to your survival and growth. You can best access this instinctual wisdom by breathing slowly and steadily and focusing your attention on the physical sensations you notice.

In addition to your intuitive feelings, get more information on which to base your choices by doing some research. Consult books, the Internet, other types of oracles, and/or discuss the issue with a friend. Or you may simply need time to contemplate it. Often when you walk away from the problem or question after intensely researching it, an unexpected insight surfaces that helps you discern the best choice among the possibilities. When there’s congruity between mind and intuition, coupled with a healthy dose of patience, you tap into the deeper wisdom of Source.

Iodhadh/Idad

I is Iodhadh, or Idad, the Yew tree. Much like the Death card in the Tarot, the Yew is known as a marker of death and endings. This evergreen tree has leaves that are attached in a spiral pattern to the twigs. Because of its unusual growth pattern, in which new growth forms inside the old, the Yew is strongly tied to rebirth and new life following death.

The Yew has no medicinal value at all, and in fact, it’s mostly toxic. Livestock have been known to die from eating the poisonous leaves. Berries can be used, but should be treated with caution. On a practical level, the wood of the Yew tree is very hard and resistant to water damage, so it was popular in the making of longbows in England.

In A Modern Herbal, Maud Grieve says of the Yew,

“No tree is more associated with the history and legends of Great Britain than the Yew. Before Christianity was introduced it was a sacred tree favoured by the Druids, who built their temples near these trees–a custom followed by the early Christians. The association of the tree with places of worship still prevails.”

Iodhadh Correspondences

Mundane Aspects: Although it may not represent spiritual death, if Iodhadh appears, it’s a sign that major transitions are coming. Be aware of them, and realize that although not all of them are bad, they will probably be pretty significant. Now’s a good time to get rid of things which are of no use to you, in order to make room for new beginnings.

Magical Aspects: Changes are on the way, so quit clinging to beliefs and ideas that no longer serve you well. Shed the old, and welcome the new. Accept change for what it is–an asset–and stop seeing it as an obstacle. Don’t fear new things, embrace them.

Ace of Swords – Decision; activity

Baby Fire dragons are hatching out of a nest among the lower fire vents on the slope of a volcano. A Celtic sword visible behind the nest stands upright and has craved dragons twining around the hilt. In the background the volcano is glowing and blowing smoke. The clouds are dark with reflections of fire on them. Fire symbolizes physical, mental, and spiritual strength and action. This strength can manifest either as destructive power or regeneration, depending upon the intent and self-discipline of the individual. The sword also has much the same meaning: strength and defense, the power to liberate or wound. Potential for self-destruction is represent by the active volcano in the background. Our lives are often disrupted by cataclysmic events, which sometimes seem to destroy our lives and turn them upside down. If we can learn to harness the fire of these events, we can walk safely through the flames and come out stronger tham we were.

Divinatory Meaning: You are in the process of making decisions that will effect your life for some time. A new period or cycle of much activity is imminent. Beware of activity without thought.

Scythe

This rune means to cut away, to put an end to something, to sever or separate, possible something you have depended on vanishes from your life. You can now move to the next level and begin anew

When the Scythe Rune turns up in a reading this indicates certain changes must occur and time must pass before a coming to terms with something that is hard to accept.

You may experience a passing through of difficulties before reaching a new level.

Walls and blocks may see insurmountable at the current time. But the Scythe implies you have the strength and fortitude to overcome all difficulties that you now encounter.

nGeatal/Ngeadal

Ng, or nGeatal, is the Reed that grows straight and tall at the riverside. Long ago, it was considered the perfect wood for arrows because it was so perfectly formed. Symbolic of music and flutes, the Reed indicates direct action, and finding purpose in your journey. It is connected with health and healing, and with gatherings of family and friends.

nGeatal Correspondences

Mundane Aspects: When this symbol appears, it’s time to take on a leadership role. Often, it indicates a need to rebuild that which was destroyed. Use your skills and ability to put things in order, and guide situations onto the right track. Think before you act, and be proactive rather than reactive.

Magical Aspects: Although you may encounter some bumpy spots in the road, ultimately your spiritual journey will be a fruitful and productive one. Understand that the lessons you learn on your way are equally as important–maybe even more so–as the destination itself.

Ace of Cups – Minor Acrana

Love; friendship; emotions; feeling

Description: In this coat of arms we see the Holy Grail. The legend reads “water my blood” and urges us “to keep silent.”

Interpretation: The Ace of Cups is the element of water at its more pure. It’s the refreshing spring bubbling up from the rocks, the trickle that will become a great river meandering to the sea. It’s the beginning of some new emotional journey. It’s the first flush of love and the aching love of life. It’s a pure feeling. It’s the Holy Grail.

Reading: The Ace of Cups represents a spring, a fountain, and the opening up of emotions. It signifies love of every kind, from romantic love to friendship. If the card is reversed then something is damming the water supply, leading to stagnation. Unlock the channels. Remember how to feel.

Cardinal

“The polarities of your spiritual pursuits and physical pleasures are out of balance, so do whatever is necessary to bring them back into equilibrium”

When on a spiritual path, it’s easy to idealize what being spiritual means. It can become a rigid mental imprint upon which you judge anything that varies from your conceptualization of what “being spiritual” is suppose to be about. This includes not only another person’s practices and beliefs, but your own. Falling short of this idealism leads to either assuming a righteous and arrogant position with others, or when self-imposed, elicits guilt and shame.

This spiritual perfectionism can make you reticent about enjoying the pleasures of the material world, as well as those of your physical body. The Earth Herself provides a dazzling and sensual panorama of experiences to be directly encountered through the physical senses. Yet for many, truly enjoying the pleasures of senses of sight, sound, taste, touch, and smell can be fraught with worry, anxiety, guilt, and shame—products of early childhood religious and/or cultural conditioning. Others become so entangled in the world of senses that it becomes their god, and their spiritual core is lost to materiality.

To be polarized in one direction or another takes you either to lofty heights and iridescent abstractions that are completely ungrounded, or else causes you to become caught up in the glue of the mundane world without the guiding light of Spirit to provide a locus of authority. With the blessing of your awareness, you can redirect your thoughts and actions towards that which brings greater balance and fluidity between two polarities.

Onn/Ohn

O is Onn, or Ohn, and represents the Gorse bush, sometimes called Furze. This yellow, flowery shrub grows on moors all year long, and is full of nectar and pollen. It’s a food source for many animals–the stalks are munched on by grazing livestock–but eventually Furze is set on fire. This controlled burn allows old deadwood to be gotten rid of, and clears the way for new life to begin. Gorse (Furze) represents long-term thinking and planning–knowing that sometimes we have to do without in order to gain things in the future. Gorse is a determined sort of plant that always comes back, and so it is also connected with perseverance and hope.

In some pieces of Celtic folklore, the Gorse is used as a protective barrier. Planting it around one’s home would keep the Sidhe away, and it can be shaped into a broom for sweeping away negative influences.

Ohn Correspondences

Mundane Aspects: Whatever you’ve been looking for is right around the corner–keep pursuing your goals, because they are within your reach. If you aren’t sure what path you should be on or which direction you should head, sit down and make a list of goals. Figure out the destination, and then you’ll be able to focus on the journey.

Magical Aspects: Your spiritual journey has provided you with an abundance of gifts. Don’t keep these blessings to yourself–share them with others! If you’ve been asked to take on a role as leader or mentor, now is the time to do so.

B – Beith

Beith, or Beth, corresponds to the letter B in the alphabet, and is associated with the Birch tree. When this symbol is used, it is representative of new beginnings, change, release, and rebirth. In some traditions, it also has connections with purification.

Birch trees are hardy. They’ll grow just about anywhere, including on bare soil. Because they tend to grow in clusters, what may be just one or two seedlings now can be practically an entire forest in a few decades. In addition to being a sturdy sort of tree, the Birch is useful. In days gone by, it was used for infants’ cradles, and is still harvested today to make cabinets and furniture.

From a magical perspective, there are a number of uses for Birch. The branches are traditionally incorporated into the construction of a besom, and are used for the bristles. Use the white outer bark in ritual in place of paper or parchment–just be sure you only harvest the bark from a fallen Birch tree, not a living one. Ancient herbalists discovered that various parts of this tree can be used for medicinal purposes. Bark was once brewed into a tea to fight fevers, and the leaves were used alternately as a laxative and a diuretic, depending on how they were prepared.

Beith Correspondences

Mundane Aspects: When this symbol appears, it means it’s time to get rid of all those negative influences you’ve been carrying around with you. Figure out what things are bad in your life, which relationships are toxic, and find a way to leave them behind. Instead of being dragged down by the negative, focus on the positive things you have in your life, the blessings and abundance. Use these things as a focus, rather than the harmful or damaging ones.

Magical Aspects: Consider the property of renewal and rebirth, as demonstrated by the Birch. Use this as a tool for spiritual and emotional regrowth, and developing your own ability to regenerate where there has been emptiness or devastation.

Seven Of Pentacles – Minor Arcana

LShe stood in a luxuriant grass garden, where she dedicated it to special care. She is the forest guardian, a part of this place, the Garden of Eden that she created herself. The peach trees finally bear fruit, a source of magical energy proliferating all over the world. Peaches are a fruit of summer and of long relaxing days. Their nectar is as sweet as honey. The specific sweetness that comes from their fruit flowed evenly from the tongue into the throat, evoking memories of hot summer days.

Should I pick them or not?” She was confused, the patterned ripples stirred on her body. Placing her hands on sweet fruits, she was ready to pick them at any time. They shrugged vaguely as if she was holding the heart of the tree, weakly trembling along the branches of the tree. Are the peaches still juicy and sweet like honey, once picked from the branches? Or would they become as faint, exhausted as the mediocre fruits in her basket?

The Seven of Pentacles Shadowcapes Tarot challenges you to make a choice: either eat and enjoy the fruit in the basket or let them continue to bear fruit and overripe on the branch. The seed has been sown, the time for work and waiting is over. Now they have grown and born fruit. This is the time to evaluate, to calmly reconsider alternatives and other approaches if possible.

Keywords related to the Seven of Pentacles Shadowscapes Tarot: evaluation, assessment, reflection, thoroughness, reward, change, patience, perseverance, skill, hard work, achievements, advancement, attainment, stability, progress, consideration, replacement, speculation, unbalance, trouble.

Phagos

Teaching, education, mastery, virtuosity, legacy

Tree: Beech (Fagus spp.)

Letter: Ph or F

Phagos is a reminder of the mental discipline it takes in the process of acquiring knowledge. When you get to the point of knowing a subject so well, you can teach it effortlessly, then you have mastered the subject on the mental plane, which reverberates through the other planes. Saturated knowledge is knowing a thing inside and out. Those who believe in reincarnation believe this is the kind of knowledge that does not go away when you shed one mortal body for the next one: for instance, a skilled midwife will stand a good chance of coming back as a competent ob/gyn who stumbles upon their talent in a seemingly random way. Or a lute player may be reborn and pick up the guitar at age twelve and learn it faster than any other kid in their class because of knowledge picked up in past lifetimes.

Six

If your life path number is 6, you are someone who thinks, speaks and acts from the heart. You are sincere, loving, warm and affectionate. It would serve you to find a job where you can bring and apply these wonderful qualities, such as a kindergarten teacher, pediatrician, social worker, or a therapist. You are made for long-term relationships and family life. Shallow pursuits and one-night stands aren’t your thing. When you touch someone, it’s real. But because you are too focused on the relational aspects of your life, you may end up bringing those people who don’t care as much as you do, into your life. If the digits of a date add up to number 6, it’s a wonderful time to create love! Work on a universal theme, help poor communities in distant places or the homeless on your block. It’s the best time to be there for other people.

One Way of How to Use Sun Phases for Spells

While almost every witch follows Moon phases for doing spells, rituals, and other magickal works. I also use the Sun phases, especially because my patron God is Ra.

Every day there is a waxing, full, waning and new phases for the Sun besides the seasonal changes. From midnight to noon is the waxing phases, the full phase is from 11:55 AM to 12:05 PM, the waning follows until sunset than at 11:55 PM to 12:05 AM is the new Sun phases. For the seasons spring is the waning, summer the new fall the waxing and winter the full. You can also go by Sabbat dates Beltane-Waning, Summer Solstice – Full, Samhain – Waning, Winter Solstice – New.

This idea and the phases may seem a bit strange to people but when the Moon is in the wrong phases for something I cannot wait to do I use the daily and if possible seasonal Sun phases. This gives me more options of what I need to do.
