(My View Point) Witchcraft Bare Basics Part 5 – How to Write a Spell

When writing a spell or doing any type of magick always keep in mind that your intention for what you want to happen is 95% of it. If you go into writing a spell or ritual and you allow others things to come into your mind and start thinking about them your spell and/or ritual will be fractured and there is no telling what might happen. It can also cause the spell and/or ritual to have the complete opposite effect than what you wanted to happen. So remember INTENTION is the most import part of any spell or ritual!!!

For beginners I suggest strongly that you cast a sacred circle to write your spell or ritual in. Why? You should always center and ground yourself before you start writing as this gives you a chance to focus your mind on what you are about to do. The sacred circle will help keep all mundane everyday things away from you thus allowing your focus and intention to be more in tune with what you want you spell or ritual to do. (I will be writing a simple ritual for anytime, another for the Esbats, and lastly for a Sabbath to be posted within the next month)

Do spells have to rhyme? To me this is up to the person casting it. There are many who feel the rhyming makes the spell stronger. While others, including myself, feel the intention it is written and cast with is more important. I suggest to you try a rhyming spell still with focus on your intention than try one that does not rhyme with the soul focus being on your intention. See which way works best for you.

Important Parts to Every Spell

You need to be very clear on the following aspects of every spell you write. Otherwise it will not turn out the way you first imagined it to when you deiced to write a spell for a specific purpose. A spell should always have only one specific reason not a mixture of many things. Remember intention toward one specific topic is much easier than having it splintered into different topics.

1) Who is the spell for? Do not do a spell for others until you have a good foundation of writing spells for yourself

2) Why am I doing this spell? This is one of the place where intention has to be the strongest.

3) What is this spell for? This is the other place where your intention has to be the strongest.

4) When do I want this spell to come to fruition? Is this a spell to happen in the next day or two or at another time? Can you do this specific spell at anytime of the day or night?

5) How do I want to want this spell to work? Is it going to be in a full ritual or just ma sacred circle? Do I want to do it alone, with other witches I know or with my coven?

6) Where do I want to do this spell? Do you want to do it indoors. or outdoors? Do you want to do when the Sun is out? Do you want to do it under a specific Moon phase is happening?

7)  Wording of all spells should include numbers  1 through 5

Example Spell for Self Protection for an Empaths (non-rhyming)

Who: Yourself

Why: To keep yourself safe from being bothered

What: To keep unwanted energy away from you

When: Today

How: Surround you in a rubber type of bubble

Where: Indoors during a Wanning Moon

Example Spell:

I cast this spell to protect me from all negative people’s energy.

I surround myself with a bubble that bounce the energy back from where it came.

I want this spell to begin as soon as right now.

(My View Point) Witchcraft Bare Basics Part 4 – Casting a Simple Sacred Circle and Calling the Watchtowers/Directions

I understand that all witches do not believe in the Law of Three, but I suggest as you are starting out to keep it in mind.

LCB works with clients one on one writing and casting spells and/or doing some type of ritual for them. She also writes spells for clients that they can cast themselves. Before writing a spell for anyone else to cast LCB will ask them questions to know if the spell will be casted safely or not. If LCB will not be casted responsibly she will not write the spell for you. While working with some clients she has become aware that some of the spells and rituals I or Lady Abyss and others have posted are not safe for people who know nothing about how to safely practice witchcraft or have only pick out some book(s) to read and think they can cast spells and/or do rituals without any consequences or safety measures. Because of this there will be no books on witchcraft recommend on this website that LCB or someone she fully trusts, is practicing The Craft safely, have read. This post is definitely direct at those new to dabbling in (which no one should ever just dabble in The Craft) or are serious about learning how to practice The Craft through any tradition safely.

If you have not read on here or another reliable source on how to cast a sacred circle and what its purpose is, do so as quickly as you can! To me and most other practitioners doing spellwork or rituals outside of a sacred circle is dangerous for many reasons. Casting a spell and/or doing a ritual raises energy that if you do not ground it or send it out to the Universe for positive use will just bounce around your home or wherever you have done your magick. This energy builds up with every spell and/or ritual you do. The energy will build up causing strange things to happen which can be anything from a light turning on and off by itself to one or more of your electronic things to quit working properly or at all to entities manifesting usually ones that would mean harm you and anyone else living in your home including pets or someone outside of your home to be hurt to… well the list is endless.

Just about everything in The Craft needs to be done three times for the most potency do come out of what you are doing.

You may not know or have read an unreliable source on how to cast a simple circle with or without Watchtowers/Calling the Directions to cast your spell or do your ritual in this Part 1 post LCB will explain a very simple circle and how to call the Watchtowers/Directions with explanations of the reason behind both to LCB’s understanding and how she does them. She is not saying this website, or the books that are recommended are the only reliable sources on how to practice The Craft safely only that everything she, Lady Abyss, and others has posted on this website has been thoroughly vetted for safety and proper knowledge.

Never cast a spell or do a ritual for someone else without their permission even a healing spell unless it is to break a spell or hex or curse you may think has been put on you. LCB recommends never casting a love or friendship spell on another person as you will never know if the person you cast the spell on is only with you or befriends you because of the spell you cast as you are taking away the person’s free will. Controlling someone else’s free will in any way is to LCB is on the side of dark/black magick.

CASTING A SIMPLE SACRED CIRCLE

(Casting a sacred circle should be done for all spellwork and/or rituals.)

The best way I have found to make sure my sacred circle is big enough: I stand about 6 inches away from the longest or widest part of my altar than put either my wand, atheme, or finger of my power hand (normally this is the hand that you write with) pointing outwards at arms length as I walk around my altar. If you are using a circle surface for your altar still stand about 6 inches away from it. I always start my sacred circles in the East. Why? Because that is what feels right for me. You can start your circle at any point that feels right for you. After you have been casting a sacred circle for a while you will know where the perimeter of your circle should be. I suggest to try walking around your altar at different distances until you find the right one for you.

I do not just cast my circle at floor level. I do the first time around I cast the circle above my head. The second time around I cast the circle at waist level. The third time I cast the circle towards the floor. I do, do more intricate circles when working alone and with my coven.

For something to come to you will cast your sacred circle in a clockwise direction in the northern hemisphere. (The reason for opposite directions in the hemispheres is because of the direction the Sun and Moon rise and fall in. East to West in the north hemisphere and West to East in the southern hemisphere.) Make sure you overlap the ends of your circle so no energy can escape it. Make sure your circle is large enough to include your altar (A simple altar will be Part 2) and for you to walk around in. If you do not make it big enough and cross the circle at any point while inside of it the circle it will shatter allowing any energy and unfinished spellwork or ritual to go out into your home and basically the Universe at large and there is no telling what it might do.

Casting the Sacred Circle

For the northern hemisphere turn clockwise. For the southern hemisphere turn counterclockwise.

First time around: I cast this circle for protection

Second time around: I cast this circle to contain all energy I raise

Third time around: I cast this circle to contain the spell I am casting

Calling the Watchtowers/Directions

When I call the Watchtowers I start in a different direction for each of the four seasons in the northern hemisphere. The suggestion below is for Summer. In the Spring I start in the South, Fall is West, and Winter is North. You should start calling your Watchtowers/Directions in which ever direction seems the right one to you. I stand at he side of my altar for the Watchtower I am calling. I have always used a compass in any new home I move into so I know where each compass point is before doing any circles and calling of the Watchtowers.

This part will have two different ways of calling the elements for each Watchtower/Direction. The first one is for the northern hemisphere and the second on is for the southern hemisphere again because of the direction the Sun and Moon rise and fall.

Northern Hemisphere

Turn clockwise to each watchtower/direction

I call Air into the Watchtower/Direction of the East to help power my spell and to protect me.

I call Fire into the Watchtower/Direction of the South to help power my spell and to protect me

I call Water into the Watchtower/Direction of the West to help power my spell and to protect me

I call Earth into the Watchtower/Direction of the North to help power my spell and to protect me

Southern Hemisphere

Turn counterclockwise to each watchtower/direction

I call Air into the Watchtower/Direction of the East to help power my spell and to protect me.

I call Earth into the Watchtower/Direction of the South to help power my spell and to protect me

I call Water into the Watchtower/Direction of the West to help power my spell and to protect me

I call Fire into the Watchtower/Direction of the North to help power my spell and to protect me

Do the Spell and/or Ritual

Ground or send the extra energy raised to the Universe

Dismiss the Watchtowers/Directions

 Opening the Sacred Circle

When you are ready to open your sacred circle the Watchtowers/Directions are dismissed first than you will open your circle. You will walk counterclockwise in the northern hemisphere and clockwise in the southern hemisphere to face each Watchtower/Directions and uncasting your sacred circle. Start dismissing your Watchtowers/Directions from the watchtower/direction in the North for both hemispheres.

Northern Hemisphere

I dismiss Earth from the Watchtower/Direction of the North with my thanks for helping to power my spell and protecting me.

I dismiss Water from the Watchtower/Direction of the West with my thanks for helping to power my spell and protecting me.

I dismiss Fire from the Watchtower/Direction of the South with my thanks for helping to power my spell and protecting me.

I dismiss Air from the Watchtower/Direction of the East with my thanks for helping to power my spell and protecting me.

Southern Hemisphere

You will walk clockwise to face each Watchtower/Directions and uncasting your sacred circle. Start dismissing your Watchtowers/Directions from the watchtower/direction in the North.

I dismiss Fire from the Watchtower/Direction of the North with my thanks for helping to power my spell and for protecting me

I dismiss Water from the Watchtower/Direction of the West with my thanks for helping to power my spell and for protecting me

I dismiss Earth from the Watchtower/Direction of the South with my thanks for helping to power my spell and for protecting me

I dismiss Air from the Watchtower/Direction of the East with my thanks for helping to power my spell and for protecting me

Opening the Actual Sacred Circle

First time around: I thank this circle for its protection

Second time around: I thank this circle for containing all energy I raise

Third time around: I this this circle for containing the spell I am casting. I let the spell go out to the Universe to do what I casted it for

(One Person’s View Point) How to Cast a Circle for a Pagan Ritual

Why Cast a Circle?

Do you need to cast a circle every time you perform a spell or ritual?

Much like many other questions in modern Paganism, this is one where the answer really depends on who you ask. Some people opt to always cast a circle prior to formal rituals, but usually do spellwork on the fly without the use of a circle — and this is something that’s doable if you keep your entire home designated as sacred space. That way you don’t need to cast a brand new circle each time you do a spell. Obviously, your mileage may vary on this. Certainly, in some traditions, the circle is required each and every time. Others don’t bother with it at all.
It’s important to remember that traditionally, the use of a circle is to delineate sacred space. If that’s not something you require before spellwork, then it’s not necessary to cast a circle.

If on the other hand, you think you might need to keep some icky stuff away from you during your working, then a circle is definitely a good idea. If you’re not sure how to cast a circle, try the method below. Although this ritual is written for a group, it can easily be adapted for solitaries.

Tips

Have all your tools ready ahead of time — this will save you from scrambling around during the middle of the ritual looking for things!

If you forget what you mean to say when casting the circle, improvise. Talking to your deities should come from the heart.

If you make a mistake, don’t sweat it. The universe has a pretty good sense of humor, and we mortals are fallible.

(One Person’s View Point) How To Cast Your First Spell: The Beginner’s Guide

If you’re new to witchcraft, it can be really intimidating trying to cast your first spell. There is so much information about witchcraft and magic out there. And it is very easy to become overwhelmed by the sheer deluge of different methods of magic, different spells, things you need to learn, teachers. There are so many different ways to do magic and you want to make sure that you’re doing the right thing. It’s enough to give anyone pause!

Because of this, I see so many new witches and magicians holding off and waiting to cast their first spell, because they feel like they don’t know enough. And while I certainly understand this, it is not necessary for you to know absolutely everything to start actually practicing magic.

Today, I’m going to walk you through why it’s so important for you to get started casting right away, how to choose your first spells, and actually start casting. I’ll give you three examples of excellent beginner spells that you can try out to start getting your feet wet and really make that transition from thinking about becoming a witch to actually casting spells and practicing magic. If you a beginner witch or even if you’ve already cast a few spells and want a little more guidance before trying again, this is for you.

The Importance Of Not Waiting

Now, before we get into the how of spellcasting, I really want to talk about why it is so important for you to start casting spells as soon as possible. I have worked with far too many students who have spent months or even years thinking about and reading about witchcraft, but who never felt like they were ready to cast that first spell. As a result, they have never done any magic, despite having had a truly genuine desire to practice for a long time!

This does not need to be the case.

Witchcraft can seem very intimidating, it can feel scary, especially with the way that the media and society at large portrays magic and witchcraft. There is a lot of fear mongering going on, giving you this idea that you’re going to attract spirits, or if you mess up your spellcasting even a little bit, that horrible consequences will result.

The reality is, a catastrophe like that is extremely unlikely. In 99.9% of cases, the worst thing that is likely to happen as a result of a beginner casting a spell wrong is… nothing. That’s it. Your spell doesn’t work and nothing happens.

Magic is relatively complex, and the beginning stages of spellcasting are really just about feeling out your own magic and trying to figure out what works for you personally. There is a lot of variation from person to person in what type of magic and spellcasting actually works for them. So for the vast majority of people, when they first start using magic, I would say probably only 20-30% of their magic actually works.

Some people get very lucky and are either uniquely talented and capable of utilizing a broad range of magic, or they happen to stumble on a type of magic that they just happen to be very good at.  So it is possible that you can start spellcasting and immediately be pretty good at it, but if that is not your experience, it’s okay! There is nothing wrong with you. Even witches with years of experience have spells flop at times.

Trial and error is a big part of making your magic practice work. And that is one of the reasons why starting hands-on spellcasting as early as possible is so important. The longer you wait to start using magic and actually casting spells, the longer it is going to take you to figure out what kind of magic really works best for you.

You are here wanting to cast spells and learn witchcraft because you want power over your life. You want the ability to change things, to draw in new love, to attract more money, to change circumstances, to overcome obstacles in your life using magic. That is the whole point of spellcasting! It’s to be able to change your life and take back personal sovereignty. My goal as a teacher is always to help you get the tools and the knowledge that you need to actually change your reality as quickly and as efficiently as possible. And to do that, you need to start casting spells. Not in a week, not in a month, not in a year, but today.

And the truth is, you are as ready as you will ever be! So many people wait for far too long because they feel like they’re not ready. But I don’t care how much reading you do, you will never feel ready to cast that first spell by reading books and blog posts alone. We build confidence in magic by doing magic. So even if you don’t feel ready, I promise you, it is time to cast that first spell.

You are not going to attract the attention of unwanted spirits. Your spell is not going to backfire and ruin your life. The only bad thing that is likely to happen as a result of you casting your first spell is your spell simply falling flat. And I can tell you right now, as someone who’s been practicing witchcraft for my entire life, I still experience spell failure. It is just a part of life. Magic is real and so it behaves just like everything else in the real world. And as in all things, there is a margin of error and nobody is perfect. So you do not need to wait until you feel like you can do everything perfectly to just get started!

Healing Water Enchantment

Ingredients:

  • A glass of water (that’s it!)

I prefer to use a glass, but you can use a plastic bottle if it’s all you have. Water is the perfect liquid to imprint with your intensions, so this spell is super simple but instantly powerful.

Hold the glass of water between your hands and say whatever you most need. For example:

My migraine is gone and I am full of health.

Close your eyes as you say these words and focus on putting all of your energy into the water. Raise as much energy as you can (I raise energy through my feet from the earth and send it out through my hands) and picture the outcome that you want. Do this for at least 2 minutes.

Once you have enchanted the water, drink it within the hour for optimal results.

Four, among the main numbers of the numerological core, is unwavering firmness of

Positive qualities

The positive qualities of the Four could be described as purely men’s virtues if thousands of women didn’t have them. This is high endurance, exceptional working ability, personal organization, commitment to principles and equanimity. You are firm in your beliefs, most important of which is that nothing in this world comes for free, and any reward is to be deserved.

That’s why people of your kind are the foundation of any society. They know what to do and can implement it in practice. There is nothing heroic in your manifestations, but all your life is a feat. As a consequence, only few admire you, but everyone respects you.

Negative qualities

When someone wants to point out the Four’s weakness, they first mention their stubbornness, slowness and tediousness. From a certain point of view, so it is: you always take your time not to make mistakes, and you’ll hold your ground up to the end without losing a chance to rub your opponent’s nose in their errors.

Moreover, you never hide your skeptical attitude towards rattle heads, shallow and irresponsible people. Therefore, you are often accused of being too suspicious, and your zero-tolerance of idleness and unwillingness to waste time on idle pleasures gives others a reason to consider you sullen and hard-grained.

Being a Scorpio born on November 21st…

Astrological symbol: Scorpion. This relates to willfulness, fierceness, clarity and resilience. This is the symbol for people born between October 23 and November 21 when the Sun is considered to be in Scorpio.

The Scorpius Constellation is one of the twelve constellations of the zodiac and lies between Libra to the West and Sagittarius to the East. The brightest star is called Antares. This constellation is quite small spread on an area of only 497 square degrees and covering visible latitudes between +40° and -90°.

The Scorpion is named in Latin as Scorpio, in Spanish as Escorpion while the French name it Scorpion.

Opposite sign: Taurus. This reflects upon authority and stubbornness and the fact that a cooperation between the Scorpio and Taurus sun signs, whether in business or love is beneficial for both parts.

Modality: Fixed. This suggests how much knowledgeability and productivity exists in the lives of those born on November 21 and how elegant they are in general.

Ruling house: The eighth house. This house governs the unconscious, unknown and death but also the material possessions of others. This explains the complex, troubled and full of mystery and secrets nature of Scorpios and their desires that are so hard to satisfy.

Ruling body: Pluto. This connection seems to suggest counterbalance and excitement. Pluto is the spiritual discerning between truth and lies. This also shows a focus on mystery.

Element: Water. This is the element of the emotional individuals born on November 21 who reveal a meditative nature but quite endearing to those around. Water mixed with earth models things in different shapes.

Lucky day: Tuesday. This weekday is ruled by Mars symbolizing stamina and outset. It reflects upon the perceptive nature of Scorpio people and the defining flow of this day.

They are faithful and diligent when its time for their objectives and love to enroll in artistic projects. They are convivial and have quite close and honorable mates. They shine best when they can battle controversy and show their emotions and are at their worst when left disconcerted.

Positive Traits: A jovial company when they feel satisfied, these natives are convivial, inquisitive and eager but can also be quite supervising and enduring when they want something to turn right. They exert some sort of hypnotism over those close to them and are often rapid to convince them to join their efforts although at time they can be quite devious about it. They are great at doing a lot of things at once and they can keep themselves focused for long periods of time.

Negative Traits: One of the things Scorpio needs to learn is to stop being so supervising and demanding and be all ears more to what others have to say. Those born on this day are possessive and controlling with people they get attached to and subjective with those who make mistakes that affect them. They are capable of easily hurting others and have quite a spiteful nature, they rarely forget and excuse.

Love and Compatibility: Lovers born on November 21 are passionate, sensual and secretive. They find it very hard to commit to one person, but when they do they become very loyal and reliable. However they keep many things to themselves as they are afraid to appear sensible and weak in front of someone else. They are attracted to someone who shares the same exciting lifestyle as them. You can conquer the heart of Scorpio if you know how to…

Welcome to WOTC! A Thought for Today

To me in order to walk the path of a pagan and witch one of the most important things is to help keep Mother Earth/Gaia’s surface clean from trash left by unenlightened people. We are the Keepers of nature and all living things be they animals, birds, fish, plants, trees, ectara. Besides making potions, poultices, and other healing things for people the wise woman or medicine man would teach others how-to live-in harmony with Mother Earth/Gaia. This is a foundation of modern witchcraft that seems to me to get lost more and more as technology takes over more and more. How many younger people today take the time or even think to write a letter or thank you note or anything to send by regular mail to someone else? Granted with email and all the different social media platforms we can communicate with people all over the world in a blink of an eye but to me this is one of the main reason people have lost empathy and are less incline to help a neighbor, family or friend with something. When you take face to face meetings out of the equation you take a person’s personality out of it as well. Yes, I use technology to bring you information on a daily basis and I am thankful to be able to do that but on the other hand it takes away from me getting to know each of you. That is why I ask on a continuing basis to ask you to leave a comment on posts so I can get to know each of my readers a little bit and do not feel complete unconnected from you as just another person sitting behind a screen unseen and unknown. So please leave a comment now and then so I know I am posting thing that interest you and can get to know you a little bit.

If you want to see information on any tradition of witchcraft, herbs, flowers, a Goddess or a God, or anything pertaining to any tradition of witchcraft, please put it in the comment section or email Lady Carla Beltane at ladybeltane@witchesofthecraft.com. I will try to find some information to post about it.

May your and your family’s lives be filled with love, happiness, laughter, joy, and positive things!

Blessed be
