Moon’s Current Phase

You can use this link to go forward or backward in time for Moon phase information. If you are curious, you can even find out what phase the Moon was in when you or anyone else was born.

From MoonGiant.com

The Moon’s current phase for today and tonight is a Waxing Gibbous phase. Visible through most of the night sky setting a few hours before sunrise. This phase is when the moon is more than 50% illuminated but not yet a Full Moon. The phase lasts about 7 days with the moon becoming more illuminated each day until the Full Moon. During a Waxing Gibbous the moon rises in the east in mid-afternoon and is high in the eastern sky at sunset. The word Gibbous first appeared in the 14th century and has its roots in the Latin word “gibbosus” meaning humpbacked.

Divination Journal

Tarot

Today’s Tarot card reading comes from The Celtic Dragon Tarot by D. J. Conway. With art done by Lisa Hunt. This deck is unique as the cards are never read in reverse.

Nine of Cups – Minor Arcana

Wishes granted.

A majestic Water dragon rises out of a lake with an ornate chalice full of jewels in its claws. A Woman stands with outstretched hands to take the chalice. She has realized she has the right to ask for help in attaining her goals, symbolized by the eight rich-looking chalices that sit around her feet on the shore. Abundance is unlimited, whether the abundance is spiritual growth, emotional contentment, physical health, or material possessions. The wave on the water symbolize the constant movement within the realm of universal possibilities.

Divinatory Meaning: Your wish will be granted. Success, accomplishment, and satisfaction will soon enter your life.

Today’s Animal Spirt Guide card comes from Messages from Your Animal Spirit Guides Oracle Cards by Steven D. Farmer

Animal Spirit Guide or Helper

Humpback Whale

“Music is essential to your healing and well-being, whether sing, playing an instrument, or listening”

In order to diagnose their patients, one of the questions, that shamans often asked was when the patient stopped singing. If it had been quite some time, the shaman was certain to recommend sing (among other remedies) as an essential aspect of recovery. All that’s involved when you sing — the fullness and rhythm of your breathing, the opening of your mouth and jaw, and the soulful and creative expressions of your spirit — serves to enhance your health and raise your vibrations.

Similarly, playing an instrument can touch those inner creative depths that yearn to be expressed through song. Simply Listening with your full attention to you favorite tune or melody can also inspire and heal. Make music as essential to your lifestyle as eating and breathing.

You can breach the inhibitions about expressing yourself musically that you’ve acquired over the years in some very simple and easy ways: Sing, chant, or play an instrument! Take a few voice lessons as a means to shore up your confidence. Let the magical child inside help you rediscover the joy of creating music. Dive in and play!

Associations: Singing; Breathwork; Sound Healing; Sensitivity; Alchemy; Ancestral Wisdom; Creativity; Inner Depths; Insight; Healing; Release; Guardianship

Rune

Dagaz

Sound: “d”
Stands for: Day
Color: Yellow
Casting meaning: Dagaz represents a stability between opposites, such as light and dark. It can stop harmful energy from getting to you but at the same time allow the good energy to slip through so that you can make good use of it.

Witches’ Rune

Scythe

This rune means to cut away, to put an end to something, to sever or separate, possible something you have depended on vanishes from your life. You can now move to the next level and begin anew

When the Scythe Rune turns up in a reading this indicates certain changes must occur and time must pass before a coming to terms with something that is hard to accept.

You may experience a passing through of difficulties before reaching a new level.

Walls and blocks may see insurmountable at the current time. But the Scythe implies you have the strength and fortitude to overcome all difficulties that you now encounter.

Ogham

Saille

S is for Saille, pronounced sahl-yeh, and is associated with the Willow tree. The Willow is often found near water, and when nourished it will grow rapidly. This symbol is representative of knowledge and spiritual growth, as well as being connected with the month of April. Willows offer protection and healing, and is closely connected to the cycles of the moon. Likewise, this symbol is tied to women’s mysteries and cycles.

In folk medicine, Willow has long been connected with healing. A tea of willow bark was used to treat fevers, rheumatism, coughs, and other inflammatory conditions. Nineteenth century scientists discovered that the Willow contains salicylic acid, a synthetic version of which is the primary pain-relief ingredient in Aspirin. In addition to its use as a healing herb, Willow was also harvested for wicker work. Baskets, small curricles, and even bee hives were constructed with this bendable, flexible wood.

Saille Correspondences

Mundane Aspects: One cannot evolve without changing. Realize that part of life’s journey includes learning lessons–even unpleasant ones. This is a natural part of the human experience.

Magical Aspects: Give yourself a break periodically, and take time to rest spiritually. Know that change will come when you are ready for it. Allow yourself some flexibility in your spiritual life as well.

Numerology

Eight – BALANCE & POWER

In Numerology, both novices and professionals alike tend to focus on the “money and power” image of the 8. Often when a client requests a name change consultation, it’s because they want to add 8s to their chart with the mistaken belief it will bring them money and power

It is true that the 8, more than any other number, emphasizes the areas of career, business, finances, and authority.

As with other single-digit numbers, the shape reflects its most important attribute; in the case of the 8 it signifies balance. The 8 is the great Karmic Equalizer, a force that creates just as efficiently as it destroys. When the 8 comes knocking, you can be assured you will reap what you’ve sown.

The 8 creates a balance between the material and spiritual worlds.

At its best, it is as spiritual as it is materialistic. The sacred side of the 8 is practical, rational, and intelligent. It knows the difference between make-believe and genuine realization.

Weekly Horoscope Sunday, July 30 to Saturday, August 5, 2023

All Signs

Mercury will be retrograde from Aug. 23 to Sept. 15. However, Mercury slows down before that, hence my recommended “buffer dates” which are from Aug. 10 to Sept. 30. Naturally, Mercury always moves forward, but three or four times a year it “appears” to go backwards relative to planet Earth. Mercury has domain over everything that moves forward. Cars, trucks, ideas and words. When Mercury is retrograde, these are the things that tend to stall or glitch. Car problems. Buses are late. Traffic jams. Communications are confused. Missed appointments. Misunderstandings. (Each Mercury retrograde is in a different sign, which means it affects you differently.) Fortunately, it’s a wonderful time to finish old business. Important: Avoid buying pricey Mercury-related items like cars, trucks, cell phones and computers during the “buffer” dates Aug. 10 to Sept. 30. So say we all.

Aries (March 21-April 19)

This is a productive week! You will work hard. You will delegate to others. Very likely, whatever you do might boost your income now or in the future. Meanwhile, the Full Moon on Tuesday could create problems dealing with your kids. (Hissy fits and meltdowns). It can also trigger problems with romance. (These problems might begin several days before Tuesday’s Full Moon.) Patience is your best ally when you’re dealing with emotionally, upset people. (Including you.) Take a breath and remember it is your outgoing breath that really calms you. In and ooooooout. In and ooooooout. The good news is this weekend is a fabulous time to socialize! Friday is an amazing time for romance and Saturday is fun city!

Taurus (April 20-May 20)

Home and family continue to be your top priority. Many of you are entertaining at home as well as redecorating and making things look better. Mercury and Mars urge you to express your creativity and explore social outings, including sports and fun times with kids. Please note that as Mercury starts to slow down, you will likely hear from old flames and romantic partners from your past. Parents might hear from kids who have been AWOL. Tread carefully at the beginning of the week because Tuesday’s Full Moon creates a tug-of-war between home and family versus your professional obligations. Cope as best you can. Plan for fun times Friday and Saturday. Yay!

Gemini (May 21-June 20)

Very soon, your ruler Mercury will start to slow down before it actually goes retrograde on Aug 23. Be smart and stock the fridge because relatives you haven’t seen for ages might be camped on your doorstep. (Do you have an inflatable air mattress?) However, this Mercury retrograde energy will allow you to settle family matters that have been up in the air or double parked for too long. Now is the time to wrap things up and solidify domestic plans. Be careful at the beginning of the week because Tuesday’s Full Moon is accident-prone for your sign. Slow down and take it easy and pay attention to everything you do and say. Do this fast because you think and talk fast.

Cancer (June 21-July 22)

You will feel the effects of this particular Mercury retrograde more than other signs because it’s happening in your House of Communications, and that is the “home” of Mercury. This means that you can expect car problems, truck problems, motorcycle problems, public transportation delays this month and next. Communications with others will be jinxed. Computer problems are likely. Missed appointments, tardiness and misunderstandings about meeting places are just a few things that will be exasperating. Don’t freak out. Most of the problems of Mercury retrograde are minor, but they’re annoying. On the upside, you can finish papers, coursework and learning projects. Done!

Leo (July 23-Aug. 22)

During this particular Mercury retrograde, cheques in the mail will be late. Money and financial issues will stagnate. Tasks related to your possessions – dry-cleaning, mending, repairing will grind to a halt and things will sit there getting dusty. On the upside, this is a great time to finish financial matters that have been delayed along with issues about which you have been procrastinating. It will be easier to finish your To Do list versus starting new ventures. Don’t forget that this weekend promises fun socializing! (It’s possible to boost your income this week, as well.)

Virgo (Aug. 23-Sept. 22)

This week you’re happy to keep a low profile. Nevertheless, with your ruler Mercury in your sign plus fiery Mars, you will surface now and then to express your views in a confident way. Mercury is your ruler and when it goes retrograde this month, you will hear from people from your past, including ex-partners and old friends. Because this particular Mercury retrograde will be in your sign, you’ll be frazzled because of misplaced items, moments where you draw a blank, mixed-up communications, missed appointments and silly, goofy errors and delays. Fear not. You are not losing it. This is a temporary thing while Mercury retrograde is in your sign. Use this in a productive way by finishing old business, which will go easily and swiftly! You’ve got this.

Libra (Sept. 23-Oct. 22)

This is a popular time for you, which is why you’re reaching out more than usual to contact friends and interact with clubs and organizations. In particular, your interest in creative, artistic people is stronger. (Perhaps the theatre?) Be diplomatic at the beginning of this week because the Full Moon on Tuesday might create problems with your kids as well as romantic partners and social occasions. Fortunately, this tension is brief. It’s gone by the end of the week, which will then be a fabulous time to socialize! Meanwhile, this particular Mercury retrograde will help you to research and study history or anything from the past. You can use this!

Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 21)

Heads up at the beginning of this week because Tuesday’s Full Moon might create some angst as energy builds up today and Monday before the Full Moon peaks on Tuesday. You might feel pulled between the demands of home and family versus the demands of your career or your public reputation. You might find yourself at odds with a parent or an authority figure. Handle this as gracefully as you can. Remember, you look good to others right now. Meanwhile, Mercury retrograde will start to attract old friends back into your life. You might also meet people you knew from clubs and organizations. Something might happen that makes you rethink future goals. Get ready for a fun-filled weekend starting on romantic Friday!

Sagittarius (Nov. 22-Dec. 21)

Starting today, you are floating along in an accident-prone “bubble”. Oh yeah. This means you have to pay attention to everything you say and do. Be vigilant for your own safety and welfare, especially because you will be a bit impulsive right now. (You want a change of scenery and more stimulation in your life!) Meanwhile, this particular Mercury retrograde is taking place at the top of your chart, which means you will hear from old bosses you haven’t heard from in a while, or parents or authority figures, even the police. You can use the influence of Mercury retrograde to finish a projected goal or project you’ve been putting off. This is the time to get ‘er done! Fun socializing this weekend!

Capricorn (Dec. 22-Jan. 19)

You might be ensnared in power struggles about shared property, taxes, debt or the ownership of something. They might involve your finances and the finances of others or shared responsibilities. Something a bit nasty might come to a head on Tuesday. Remember: Your first loss is your cheapest loss. (My father-in-law told me that years ago.) Meanwhile, Mercury retrograde will be in the part of your chart associated with travel, education, legal matters, and medicine. You might experience delays or mixed-up communications in these areas. If you’re dealing with important matters, double check details so you have no regrets later. Meanwhile, this weekend is a wonderful time to party and schmooze! Friday is a romantic day and Saturday is just plain fun!

Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 18)

This week on Tuesday, there will be the only Full Moon in your sign all year. The build up to it is starting now. This is why you might be at odds with partners and close friends. Remember: Friendships are important to you. Meanwhile, life is short (and fat). Don’t waste your precious time embroiled in angry encounters with people who are important to you. The reason you feel strongly about issues is because these people matter to you. At one time, you had a vested interest in them. Wake up and smell the coffee. Meanwhile, Mercury retrograde might create delays in shared property and financial matters.

Pisces (Feb. 19-March 20)

As this week begins, the buildup of energy before Tuesday’s Full Moon might create problems with coworkers and issues related to pets or your health. Stay chill. Be part of the solution not part of the problem. Remember: Your objective is to be happy. Meanwhile, Mercury is starting to slow down in a few days, before it goes retrograde this month, and this astrological phenomenon will attract ex-partners and ex-spouses back into your world. (I once tried to hide in a remote aisle of a video store but got busted at the cash register.) Look your best when you go out because living well is the best revenge. Keep working because this will be like therapy. Fun weekend ahead!

Good Day WOTC Family and Friends!

Good Day WOTC Family and Friends! The Pagan Serenity Prayer – Printable

I really needed to read this again today as all week thanks mostly to the weather and high, for where I live, temperatures, I have been playing catch up every morning. Sunday’s regular posts will go up on Sunday and the same for Monday and Tuesday’s regular posts. Between brown outs, headaches from it being too hot and humid, getting up later than usual because of not being able to fall asleep, plus Big Dawg’s process server job I just haven’t been doing what I told you I would do as far as regular posts. We are going to be on the road serving papers for at least 6 to 8 hours today and the same for tomorrow. We live where going from one town to the next can take up to an hour or more and in between all we see are miles and miles and miles of corn and soybean fields…the fun of living and working in a rural area. Hopefully Tuesday morning I will have time to do the tomorrow posts for Wednesday 🤞.

Wishing you all a great, magickally fun weekend!

Can’t Do Tomorrow’s Posts Today

Until it gets below 85⁰F in my small office area I can’t work. When I left my office space around 12:30 PM CDT it was overly warm. After quickly taking our fur kids out and feeding them I had to do some work in the kitchen that couldn’t wait until tomorrow when it should be about 30⁰F cooler. I sat down to begin doing WOTC work and started getting very sweaty and a headache. At this point I’ve already drank ½ gallon of water after my ½ bottle of raspberry ice tea (it’s my caffeine for the entire day) so I thought I was well hydrated. I looked at the small thermometer on my desk which read 95⁰F in my little office area. Guess what? That’s way to hot to be sitting with a computer tower trying to run. I’m sorry but I am done for today. The heat index is not supposed to go below 100⁰F until 10 PM or so tonight!

I have been working with dogs for 41 years and other animals for about 14 years after I earned my veterinary assistant certificate. The heat effects animals of all kinds even those in the water like fish. While we cannot do much for our wild animal friends or fish in lakes or other water ways or reptiles we can for domestic pets and companions.

If you do not have air conditioning or even a little window one the heat will affect all those in your home, then homes that do have them. It is just as important if not more so for them to have fresh cold water to drink as neither cats nor dogs have sweat glands anywhere but on their tongues. I make ice cubes with thinning down leftover meat of any kind juices. Whatever amount I have left over after a meal I add just as much plain water to it than pour that into ice cube trays. After they have frozen, I take them out of the trays and place them in a plastic bag that closes tightly or an airtight container and put it in the freezer. No matter what time of the year it is if one of our fur kids is not drinking enough I either give them a couple of ice cubes too much on or melt a few cubes into a small bowl of water. As for their plain water I change it about every hour and add regular ice cubes to it so they can cool down. If you sprinkle 1/8 of a teaspoon of salt per 10 pounds of weight on your companions’ snacks or food in the morning and evening this will help to get them to drink some more also. My Cleo and Star, both small dogs, will lick the salt off my hand and then immediately go for a long drink of water. Have a fan on the floor pointing towards your companion’s favorite place to lay to help keep them cool.

For the domestic animals that are always outside like cows or horses or goats or sheep or chickens or whatever make sure they have enough shade to be in and that however you provide them with water that it is full and in proper working order. Please check on them as often as you can every day in the extremely hot or cold weather.

Good Day WOTC Family and Friends! iT IS A mURPHY’S laW daY FOR me

UGH… I can’t even type right this morning.

Anywho…I will be getting the regular posts up, but they may not follow the normal sequence of posting because as temperatures soar into triple digits today, I got an email stating that, we will have more rolling brown outs. For those not familiar with what a rolling brown out is let me try to explain. When a lot of extra electricity is being used for say fans and air conditioners the electric company cuts power down in one area and puts it back up only to less it somewhere else. The reason they do this is so the entire City of Ottawa, IL or whatever city or town or village does not overload the power grid and everyone electrical power goes out and stays out until the company can fix transformers and other important stuff.

Yesterday when I came back to finish doing posts it was a yucky time. My computer was going soooo slooow the post was time out meaning I got a message asking if I wanted to wait or reload the page and try again, well words to the effect LOL. After trying to get up just one post for 20 minutes I gave up because I was so dan frustrated that all the post if they went up would be filled with my negative energy and I rather keep you from feeling it. These are times I wish our landlord would have solar power for our home then we’d be off the grid and my computer wouldn’t be finicky.

Well here goes today’s attempts to get posts done. Wish me luck and patience.

Stay safe and cool. Drink extra good for hydration fluids! Check on elder friends, family, and neighbors. If your area has one use a cool station if it is too hot in your home.

Blessings of good health from WOTC to you and yours during this heat wave and always.

Good Day WOTC Family and Friends! along with a PSA

Thanks to rolling brown outs and allergies I didn’t make it back to my computer yesterday to get today’s posts up. As Big Dawg and I have to go deliver court papers this morning before it gets too hot, I am unsure when today’s posts will be finished. All I know is I plan to do them when I get home.

For those with heat index warning please heed them, drink extra water or sports drinks or even vitamin water to stay hydrated if you have to be outside. Stay away from any kind of tea as it will make you urinate more which can dehydrate you quicker. Also, the sugars, real or artificial, in soda hardly do anything to help your hydration level same with coffee and other caffeinated beverages. This biggest dehydrator in these types of temperatures in alcohol in any form including beer.

I apologize for not getting this PSA up when the southern USA was going through their heat wave earlier this month. From the news up here in the Midwest it sounds like y’all are still in recorded breaking high temperatures. I know places all over our beautiful Mother Earth are suffering this year with above average temps thanks to an El Nino.

Stay cool as possible, drink extra water and/or sports drinks, and check on your neighbors who maybe elderly or have young children to make sure everything is ok and they have enough to drink.

Queen of Fire – Minor Arcana Court Card

I. The Explanation of Queen of Fire Osho Zen Tarot

The Queen of Fire Osho Zen is so rich, so much a queen, that she can afford to give. She did not even have the concept of stockpiling or storing it for later use. She dispersed wealth immeasurably, welcoming everyone to share the wealth, fertility, and light that surrounded her.

If you draw this card, you are also able to share your love, joy, and laughter. And while sharing, you find yourself becoming fuller. There is no need to go anywhere or to make any special effort. You find yourself able to enjoy sensual pleasures without possessiveness or attachment, being able to have children or creating new projects with a sense of balance and creativity. Everything around you seems to be “connected”. Enjoy it, bury yourself in it, and let wealth flow in you and around you.

II. The Energy of Queen of Fire Osho Zen Tarot Based on Osho’s Teachings

As you move above to the fourth center – that is the heart – your whole life becomes a sharing of love. The third center has created the abundance of love. By reaching to the third center in meditation, you have become so overflowing with love, with compassion, and you want to share. It happens at the fourth center, the heart. That’s why even in the ordinary world people think love comes out of the heart. For them it is just hearsay, they have heard it; they don’t know it because they have never reached to their heart.

But the meditator finally reaches to the heart. As he has reached to the center of his being – the third center – suddenly an explosion of love and compassion and joy and blissfulness and benediction has arisen in him with such a force that it hits his heart and opens the heart. The heart is just in the middle of all your seven centers – three centers below, three centers above. You have come exactly to the middle.

Saille or Sail

Pronunciation – Sahl-yuh

Tree Association – willow

Meaning – Balance, intuition, closely connected to the moon’s cycles, perfect timing (astrologically), sentimental feelings, the flow of water, and tides. Willow trees (often found near water) and the moon are closely linked due to their connection with water. Saille is also associated with divination and intuition. Keeping your connection to your Self open and healthy is an empowering trait and very valued.

If reversed – You’re feeling defeated, distracted, or lost. Use your knowledge and intuition to guide yourself back to alignment.

Inscription and Magical Uses – Wonderful for Moon Water, moon magic, cyclical intentions, or working with the element water. Allow the flexibility of the willow tree to influence your spiritual life. Let yourself be a bit more fluid; keep yourself and intuition open.

Hexagram Eighteen/18

Ku / Repairing the Damage

Winds sweep through the Mountain valley:
The Superior Person sweeps away corruption and stagnation by stirring up the people and strengthening their spirit.

Supreme success.
Before crossing to the far shore, consider the move for three days.
After crossing, devote three days of hard labor to damage control.

SITUATION ANALYSIS:

You are blessed with an opportunity to resuscitate that which others have abandoned as beyond repair.
This ruin wasn’t caused by evil intention, but by indifference to decay.
Just by addressing yourself to the problem, you exhibit a new awareness, a fresh perspective.
This is a time of recovery, renewal, regeneration.

Numerology

From numerscope.com

Eight

Eight, as one of the core numerological numbers, is an indication of a dominant element, practicality, materialism and everlasting self-confidence. You are born to be a winner. Life is a battlefield for you, and all life’s benefits are the trophies. It does not matter if it is your battlefield or not, and which team takes the lead. You have the intention, and you have the goal. So the opportunity to achieve it will occur as well. You will provide it yourself, by any means. Therefore, those who try to resist your actions run the risk of breaking their necks.

Positive qualities

The positive qualities of the Eight are perseverance, courage and a great business instinct. People of your type control everything that happens in our world. No task is impossible for you, no obstacle invincible. You clearly see every next step both on your path and on the path of progress. Therefore, you know exactly what and when you should do.

You are reliable and impartial. You act tough, but always fair. If you take someone under your wing, this lucky person can consider their life to be well-off, and protection from any problems is guaranteed.

Negative qualities

The most obvious negative qualities of the Eight are arrogance, haughtiness and their habit of putting a slight upon the people who are in a dependent position. Well, there is also a couple of canonical vices like wrath and pride.

All these are the indispensable features of your business life, so they do not cause misunderstanding among colleagues and subordinates. In everyday life, however, such manifestations spoil your image adding some rough and unpleasant features to it. Learning to control yourself, so as not to abuse the family’s angelic patience, would be useful.

The Essence of Witchcraft…… c. 2014

“…….is transformation. The  idea is to take the “you” currently present and accounted for and change your essence into something better, greater, stronger, and incredibly dynamics. Being a Witch means to want to work every day to be a better person. When you change yourself then the world around you cannot help but change. There’s no getting around it. All this changing can be a lot of hard work–and there are certain aspects of the path that require time, effort, and energy. Although many of the things you truly water can be achieved in a short time with the techniques presented in this blog, there are other issued in your life that will require patience, effort, and practice to reach you ultimate goals. That’ s okay. If you didn’t have to work at somethings then the study wouldn’t seem worthwhile. To be a Witch, you must be brave enough to face everything inside of you and have the courage to change the things you do not like. Being a Witch has nothing to do with spell,=s, rituals and unusual clothing —they are the fun stuff. To be a Witch is to desire personal transformation.”

The Essence Of Witchcraft Is Therapy

The younger generation, that generation unfairly labelled Generation X, has an alarmingly dark cast looming over them. They are the first generation who are not expected to fare better than their parents. They are the depressed generation, with an alarmingly large percentage of these children on Prozac or other anti-depression drug, they have been warped by television, violence, illegal drugs and absentee parents. It is no wonder then, that many of these young people have turned to the Pagan religions for solace, turning Witchcraft and other Pagan religions into very quickly growing paths.

It is no puzzle why young people find the pagan religions attractive, they offer a degree of freedom and individualityuncommon to most other mainstream religions, they offer the practitioner strength and power. Because these religions integrate the magickal arts into their core theology, people who need a sense of empowerment are drawn to these religions. In Witchcraft especially, the practitioner is taught that they hold all the power, that will is all one needs to shape their fate and that we all have the ability to determine our futures. But Witchcraft also teaches that along with the power of independence comes responsibility, when we are forced to take responsibility for our actions, we become much more aware of them and this realisation is in itself a kind of therapy.

While many Craft leaders would be hesitant to accept the fact that Witchcraft is therapy, the truth is that any practice which advocates self exploration, self empowerment and self expression is therapeutic. The entire purpose of spirituality in its pure and unadulterated form is to provide a link between the individual and the Divine. Once this link is established and a firm relationship develops, the seeker becomes cleansed. A renewed understanding of self and a new-found self respect is instilled, thus the end result is the same result striven for in any kind of therapy. The re-connecting of the mind and body to the Earth and Goddess is the ultimate form of self affirmation therapy.

Unfortunately, however, the therapeutic aspects of Witchcraft are often masked not only by Hollywood facades which present Witchcraft as a fairytale practice, but also by many books that speak almost exclusively about magick and its application. While it is true that Witchcraft wouldn’t be Witchcraft without magick, it is also true that magick simply will not work without a deep understanding of self and a deep relationship with Earth, Universe and Goddess. Books that give guidelines for rituals and spells do nothing to add dimension to Witchcraft as a bona fide religion, though it appeals greatly to the younger generation. Yet watered-down Witchcraft can never feed the soul and when the young practitioner discovers that their magick does not work (because the books they read have neglected to inform them that they must transform themselves before they can work magick) they turn away from Witchcraft and never come to gain the very thing that they came in search of.

Because witches are very wary of those who proselytise, they are wary to do so themselves. Witches are willing to teach those who are sincere in their desire to learn and who are mature enough to discipline themselves in the manner required of true scholarship. The trouble however, is that most teenagers and young adults who encounter Witchcraft are not lucky enough to have a physical teacher. They read books, magazines and consult the Internet for their teachings. Yet precious little of these media offer valuable and accessible theological and/or philosophical information to the student. Most often, students are taught the Wheel of the Year and the Wiccan Rede without ever being taught why these things are sacred, how they are integrated into our daily lives and how the student is to interpret these guidelines for themselves. In fact, because many publications focus heavily on the eclectic side of Witchcraft, they often offer the student these empty words…Do whatever feels right to you. In some instances, such advice is favourable, but many times, the student has no idea what they should feel, let alone if that feeling is right.

Though teenagers and young adults come to Witchcraft for many reasons including a desire for control, love or for some rebellion against controlling parents, the reason these people stay with Witchcraft is because they feel a sense of coming home. While love and money spells may lure them in, those who are not willing to change for their religion will not stay. Witchcraft is first and foremost, a religion that advocates metamorphosis and self transformation and these things do not come from the wave of a magick wand. These things only come with perseverance, determination and discipline. Many books mention this fact, but most do not stress it enough. It is almost as though they are afraid of scaring away the reader. But why mask what our religion is? Why try to market it is as something that it is not? If we know that Witchcraft is a therapeutic religion that can reconnect the individual with Earth, why do we try to bury this beauty underneath magick spells and rituals? Why are we afraid to tell the student, If you want it bad enough, you can have it, but not without getting your hands dirty? In an age where we are losing a generation to drugs, violence and sexually transmitted disease, why do we deny them the exhilarating liberation that Witchcraft-as-therapy has to offer?

Perhaps writers are afraid that their work won’t be published unless they offer mass public appeal and the public wants magick. Maybe they are afraid that publishing a belief system is so close to proselytisation that they are afraid to cross that line. Yet if Witchcraft is to remain a bona fide religion, it must enculturate the younger generation and it must offer them something useful in return. Witchcraft is a truly beautiful religion, once one gets to the very meat of it and it is a religion truly fit for combating the decay of our young people. Unlike many mainstream religions, witches do not believe that they must rely on an outside source for fulfilment and happiness. Witches believe that the witch saves them self and in an era where self denigration and self hate is on the rise, it would be wise for the teachers of the Craft to make this information readily available to the student. The most valuable thing I ever learned from Witchcraft is that by the simple fact that I am, everything I do, say, feel and think is not only valid, but sacred as well. When we learn to accept ourselves as sacred, we come to understand that others are sacred and mutual respect is established and unity grows.

While it is never too late to teach these principles to anyone, it is much easier to integrate them into the teachings of the beginner, because they are so willing to learn. Instead of filling our bookstores with how-to books that may sell well but offer very little, we must teach and publish that which the younger generation needs to hear, which is that only through self discovery and understanding can we ever be truly successful, be it in work, love or magick.

Motivational Magick

You can ask the Greek Goddess Aphrodite for help in this spell as She rules over self-acceptance and physical beauty. I think She’s the perfect Deity to help you with your spell to lose weight.

  • 4 cinnamon sticks
  • A length of blue ribbon
  • Piece of dried apple
  • Vanilla oil (or pure extract)

Lay out your supplies and hold your hands over everything. Ask Aphrodite for Her help with these words:

I ask you Aphrodite to bless this ritual

To bring me beauty, strength and love of myself

Help me shed my extra pounds

To be slim as well as healthy and true.

Bundle everything together and wrap ribbon around the charm, leaving enough to let it hang from. Dab a little vanilla oil on it and you’re done.

Now put it somewhere that you’re likely to see it in the kitchen but not out in the open. In a cabinet or in the fridge, hanging by the ribbon (don’t just set it on the shelf). Remember your dedication to lose weight every time you see the charm. Every night before you go to bed, say a little prayer to Aphrodite for resolve the next day.

Moon’s Current Phase

You can use this link to go forward or backward in time for Moon phase information. If you are curious, you can even find out what phase the Moon was in when you or anyone else was born.

From MoonGiant.com

The Moon’s current phase for today and tonight is a Waxing Crescent Phase. Best seen in the west after the sun dips below the horizon at sunset. This is the first Phase after the New Moon and is a great time to see the features of the moon’s surface. The moon is close to the sun in the sky and mostly dark except for the right edge of the moon which becomes brighter as the days get closer to the next phase which is a First Quarter with a 50% illumination.

Visit the July 2023 Moon Phases Calendar to see all the daily moon phase for this month.

Today’s Waxing Crescent Phase

The Waxing Crescent on July 24 has an illumination of 36%. This is the percentage of the Moon illuminated by the Sun. The illumination is constantly changing and can vary up to 10% a day. On July 24 the Moon is 6.06 days old. This refers to how many days it has been since the last New Moon. It takes 29.53 days for the Moon to orbit the Earth and go through the lunar cycle of all 8 Moon phases.

Phase Details

Phase: Waxing Crescent
Illumination: 36%

The 8 Lunar Phases

There are 8 lunar phases the Moon goes through in its 29.53 days lunar cycle. The 4 major Moon phases are Full Moon, New Moon, First Quarter and Last Quarter. Between these major phases, there are 4 minor ones: the Waxing Crescent, Waxing Gibbous, Waning Gibbous and Waning Crescent. For more info on the Moon Cycle and on each phase check out Wikipedia Lunar Phase page.

Good Day WOTC Family and Friends!

The start of another work week for some and the end for others. Enjoy Monday it doesn’t have to live up to the stereotype of a bad day. It can be whatever type of day you want it to be good or bad or indifferent.

Mine is going to be a fantastic day – the Sun is shining; Big Dawg and I only have four people to try to serve legal papers to and then the rest of the day will be ours to spend with our fur kids. Only drawback today is grass and corn pollen are very high where we live so unless I want to be down from my allergies again, I can’t take a very long walk in the woods and definitely cannot work in the yard 😣.

I was down all Saturday afternoon and evening, slept 11 hours, which was a good thing for my fibromyalgia to go out of the super flare I was in from lack of sleep, and felt miserable all day. Found out I was allergic to corn pollen as places we had to drive through miles and miles of corn fields left me with an asthma attack. But now that I know about this, I wear a mask or turn on the Jeep’s air conditioning for a bit as we drive through them. Within about 5 minutes in any direction, we go from home we have corn and soybean fields. Don’t get me wrong I love living in a rural area for all the wildlife and wooded areas I just don’t like the allergies that go with it. For every bad in life I always try to find the good in it also. Our physical life needs to be balanced just as our metaphysical and spiritual life needs to be.

Wishing all of you dear Sisters, Brothers, and Friends a wonderful Monday!!
