15 Blutmonath

Nidhogg’s Blot

Color: Black
Element: Earth
Altar: On a black cloth set several bare tree branches in an earthenware vase, a horn of mead, and the figure of a dragon.
Offerings: Pieces of wood with the name of a missed duty scratched on them.
Daily Meal: Tree fruit such as apples or pears or cherries or peaches.

Invocation to Nidhogg

At the base of the great World Tree
Dwells a black dragon
Whose name is Nidhogg,
Whose sole task is gnawing
At the roots of Yggdrasil.
As quickly as it gnaws away,
New growth comes forth
In a never-ceasing spiral.
At the base of each soul
Dwells a black dragon
Whose name is Conscience,
Whose sole job is gnawing
On our blithe thoughtlessness.
As it gnaws and forces us
To do what should be done,
It clears away our disorder
And allows for new growth
In the tangle of our lives.
Teach us, gnawer at the roots,
How to listen and decide.

Chant:

Roots of the Tree,
Hidden, mysterious,
Reveal them to me,
Dragon of Earth.

(Each person shall snap a twig from the branches on the altar and take it with them, laying it under their pillow to remember Nidhogg and their own consciences. The mead is passed around and shared, and the remainder poured out as a libation to Nidhogg.)

Today’s I Ching Hexagram for November 14th is 18: Repairing What is Spoiled

18: Repairing What is Spoiled

Something is starting to rot and it is time to repair the damage. In the world of human affairs, indulgence and corruption grow like weeds in an untended garden; they must be faced squarely, and rooted out through bold action. Eliminating corruption — and the sloppiness that leads to it — is one of the most ennobling of all human enterprises. Correction of flaws in the system clears the way for fresh, new beginnings.

The time has come to become lean and efficient. The weeds must be rooted out now, before the garden is overwhelmed. Fighting decay, sloppiness and corrupt agendas is not a simple matter; all steps must be evaluated carefully. Planning must precede action. Resist the temptation to strike out prematurely. Gather strength behind you, and summon your inner resources, because arresting decay is no simple task. When you do act, make your strike as precise and clean as the path of the surgeon’s knife.

About the Celtic Tree Month Reed October 28 to November 24

Celtic Tree Month Reed

(Ngetal)

October 28 to November 24

Those Born Under This Sign:

Reed signs among the Celtic tree astrology signs are the secret keepers.  You dig deep inside to the real meaning of things and discover the truth hidden beneath layers of distraction.  When there is a need to get to the heart of the matter, most certainly the Reed sign will find the core.  You love a good story, and can be easily drawn in by gossip, scandals, legend and lore.  These tendencies also make you an excellent historian, journalist, detective or archeologist.  You love people because they represent a diversity of meanings for you to interpret.  You are adept at coaxing people to talking to you, and sometimes you can be a bit manipulative.  However, you have a strong sense of truth and honor so most of your scheming is harmless.  Reed people join well with other Reeds, Ash or Oak signs.

Celtic Meaning Of The Reed:

The Celtic meaning of the reed within the Ogham deals with:

  • Purpose
  • Protection
  • Purification
  • Clarification
  • Communication

Today we may not consider the reed a tree, but in the time of the ancient Celts their landscape held prolific reeds in swamp areas; some growing up to 20 feet tall.

The druids viewed any large plant like this with a woody stalk to be a tree, and the reed was considered very important.

All things of the natural world were honored by the Celts, and all things represented the connection with life.   In this way, the reed was highly revered for its usefulness in the day-to-day practices of the Celts.

The reed was used for many purposes by the Celts.  Specifically, they would weave reeds together to make thatched roofs on their homes – some of which (when properly constructed) last up to a decade or more.  This is where the reed obtains its symbolism of protection.  It is also a natural insulator, and the Celts honored it highly during cold, wet months.

Reed gives off a faint sweet smell when macerated, and so the Celts were known to lay out pressed reeds as flooring in their homes to deodorize.  This was also a practice for cleansing and purifying homes.

Reeds also made good candles, and were viewed as beacons of light during the dark nights.  This is another facet of the reed’s purposefulness in the life of the Celts.

The reed gets its symbolism of communication from several sources.  In the hands of a good craftsman (and there were many among the ancient Celts), a reed would make a fine whistle, flute or recorder.  These were highly prized amongst the people, particularly bards. Through these flutes and music the spiritually-minded Celts would communicate fantastic worlds of vision, heroism, and beauty.

Secondly, if you are still enough, you can hear them sing a song when the wind blows through a field of reeds.  If you’ve ever had the pleasure of hearing it, you know it is an eerie experience.  The Celts viewed this as an otherworld voice, and considered it a message of powerful importance.

Take the time to incorporate these symbolic meanings of the reed in your life.  Gather some up and bring them into the house to open up the energy and clear the air.  Or, try fashioning a flute from a reed and take it to your next drum circle to play!  Your Celtic ancestors will get such a kick out of that!

Freedom Is Never Free

Veteran’s Day 2012. Today is a very special day, a day we take time to thank all of the Veterans, Servicemen & women who have and are serving in our Armed Forces. We owe them so much. And some of them have paid the ultimate price for our freedom.

The ultimate price, I know all to well. I lost an uncle in World War II, I never got to know. He was only eighteen and eager to go. He became a combat pilot and was shot down and killed. When I was younger, I didn’t understand. All I knew was I had heard of Uncle Ernest but I had never met him. Why? When I got older and was able to understand what a thing called “war” was. They told me what had happened to my uncle. They told me he died serving our country and he was a hero. Still young, I was selfish. I wanted to know my uncle. I thought it was unfair he was taken so young. But now as I have grown older, it is still hard to think of him dying so young. His whole life ahead of him, perhaps a wife, children, growing old on a front porch in a rocking chair. I now realize Uncle Ernest did what he thought was right. He knew what was at stake if he didn’t go to war. I still cry for the uncle I never knew. I know he loves me and he gave the ultimate sacrifice for me. Not only did my uncle give his life for me and his country but so many others did.

Today is their day. For all the Uncle Ernest in this country. For all the Fathers, Brothers, Sisters and Mothers that stood so bravely in the line of fire. For those that sacrificed so much for those they did not know, let us stop and say a prayer for them. For all the Servicemen and women of today, that stand at the ready, may the Goddess bless them and watch over them. May they all come home to their loved ones, safe and sound.

This country can never say “Thank You” enough for all who has sacrificed for this great nation of ours.

May the Goddess bless all the souls of our dearly departed,

May She welcome them into the Summerlands, keep them

in Her love and comfort till we meet again!

So Mote It Be!

Uncle Ernest, I love you!

What A Beautiful & Blessed Day, My Dear Sisters & Brothers!

Good Morning, dear friends! I would have been here sooner but I have been looking for some graphics. In particular, fireworks graphics. I wanted to put up a huge firework display here. Why? Because this is the first morning I have woke up in true peace. And it was all due to the election results. I know some of you probably thought I had when off the deep end about the campaign and the candidates. But, I get these feelings and they are never wrong. Everyone tells me, the feelings are my witchy feelings coming through. For I don’t know how long, I had the feeling of dread and it was due to the campaign for President.  I had the feelings and I would also get quick visions of things to come. I can guarantee you those quick visions weren’t pleasant at all. I know our Religion was at stake and also women’s rights. Now that feeling of dread has passed and I am once again at peace with myself. You don’t know what a wonderful feeling that is! It is fantastic!

I hope everyone who wanted to vote yesterday had the opportunity. I saw on the television were people were having to wait in line for 4 hours to vote. That is determination to make sure your voice is heard. I applaud those individuals. I know all of us left here early because our local TV station was telling everyone to get to the polls early. There was supposedly long line here, yeah, right! I came home and picked up hubby and Kiki and we went to the polls. There were a few there but no long lines, heck we live out in the boonies. I am surprised they don’t use carrier pigeons out here. Walk in, write a little note, attach it to the pigeon’s leg and throw the pigeon out the window. And your vote is off, lol! But I blew the girl at the registration desk mind. Hubby insisted I take Kiki in. So I did. I walked in. The first thing I asked the girl (being humorous, I thought) was “Can I vote twice?” The girl looked at me totally puzzled. I looked at Kiki and told her that she wanted to vote too. So could I vote for her? The girl looked at me very seriously and asked me if Kiki was registered. I said yes, just kidding. The girl started flipping the pages of the book looking for Kiki’s name. I told her I was just kidding and she looked at me like she didn’t understand me. I told her again, I was just kidding. She finally got it and laughed. Brother, never kid with the registration officials! Who knew you could have such fun at the voting polls! Only in the boonies!

I have one thing real quick I want to talk to you about or rather ask your opinion. I have been looking through other Pagan websites and I noticed all of them had put up Yule graphics. I know that is our next Sabbat. But I was wondering how you would feel if I put Thanksgiving on our front page? I know it isn’t a Pagan holiday, of course. But I believe it is a holiday we all enjoy whether we are Pagan or not. Who doesn’t love to pick the skin off the turkey and eat it. Not to mention the sweet potatoes and dressing. I was thinking since Thanksgiving is really a tradition that spread across all Paths and Religions, would you be offended if I put up a Thanksgiving page? I want to hear from you if I would. Seriously. You are not going to hurt my feelings at all. Remember this is your blog, we do this everyday for you and I surely don’t want to offend anyone. So let me know, Thanksgiving page, YES or NO! Hey we are having a Thanksgiving Election, lol! Damn and I thought all the campaigning was over, lol!

Have a super, fantastic day and let me know your opinion on the front page!

Goddess Bless You & Yours,

Lady A

OIL SCRYING

OIL SCRYING

The history of oil scrying can be traced back to the ancient Babylonians. Some of their magic books have survived down through the centuries with details of the methods they used.

One of their techniques was called the “Princess of the Thumb”. A scryer anointed the forehead and thumbnail of a subject. The shiny nail acted as a magic mirror in which the scryer saw spirits. Another version was called the “Princess of the Hand”. Oil was mixed with black soot to make a black paste that was then smeared upon the hand. The scryer then used the hand as a mirror to scry future events.

A third type of oil scrying was called the “Princess of the Cup”. Sesame seed oil was used to coat the inside of a cup that was rested on its side.

The cup was used as a concave magic mirror to capture and magnify the light of a candle that was fixed on its inner rim.

From the Babylonians oil scrying found its way to the Egyptians and Hebrews. The most detailed examples of oil scrying are written in the Greek Magical Papyri written in Egypt between 200 B.C. and A.D. 500.

Four kinds of water which is to be mixed with the oil is used for four types of divination.

If you call upon the services of the heavenly Gods then use rainwater. If you invoke the terrestrial Gods then use sea water. If you invoke the Gods Osiris or Sobek use river water. And if you call upon the souls of the dead then use spring water.

A Little Humor – Let’s Be Friends

LET’S BE FRIENDS

Annabelle was supposed to go out with this guy on Friday night. On Friday afternoon he called and said that he didn’t think it was a good idea because he just wanted to be friends. So she hung up and called him back.

He answered, “Hello?”

She said, “Hey, friend, it’s me. Want to hear what this jerk just did?

The moral: Don’t mess with Friday-night dates.

Daily Feng Shui Tip for Sept. 2 – ‘VJ-Day’

‘VJ-Day’ marks the formal end of the Second World War and the end of fighting between the Allies and Japan. So today would be the perfect time to talk about the power of surrender. And even though this advice isn’t about waving a white flag through flying bullets, in a proverbial way it could be. There are few things more maddening than hitting obstacles as you make your way towards your personal and professional goals. We often spend too much time trying to figure a way around obstacles when sometimes all we really need to do is surrender. By surrendering to your obstacles you’re taking back your power and refusing to waste any more energy fighting what’s not flowing. Instead of struggling, you will now step back and look at challenges in a new light. The first step in successful surrender is creating emotional distance so you can view your challenges from the perspective of inquiry. What is the lesson you are learning and what is this obstacle teaching? The second step is to detach from any need to ‘win’ over the obstacle. Rather, start silently asking for insight or ideas regarding options to turn this frustration into flow and then listen to that small voice within. Lastly, give potential and possibility some distance and time. Once you again feel empowered by your willing surrender you will also find the flow and progress. Surrender and stop forcing flow and you will almost immediately feel fear and frustration melt away while renewed enthusiasm for the future takes their place!
