All Signs

This week the Sun moves into Aquarius for four weeks, triggering a heightened sense of rebellion and independence in the world. People will fight for their beliefs. There will be news in the media about aviation or space travel because Aquarius rules the skies (rocket technology, aviation, astronomy and astrology). Aquarius is also associated with the gathering of likeminded individuals to fight for a cause. It’s the energy behind Greenpeace, Amnesty International and trade unions. The New Moon on Saturday (and Sunday) is an excellent time to set intentions and make resolutions. This year I resolve not to make resolutions. I’m going to live with myself.

Aries (March 21-April 19)

You’re heading into a four-week window of increased popularity! You will see friends more; and you’ll be more involved with groups, clubs and organizations. You will enjoy the company of creative, artistic acquaintances. (A friend could become a lover.) Please note: This is actually the best time of the year for you to define future goals. Goals give you a clearer focus on what is important. More clarity in decision-making. Better control over your future. And of course, they give you a sense of purpose. With Jupiter in your sign now (a once in 12 years event) –you have permission to think big!

Taurus (April 20-May 20)

For the next four weeks, the Sun is at the top of your chart. This occurs only once a year and when it does, it symbolizes that you are thrust in the light of the Sun – like a spotlight on you. And this light is flattering! Therefore, even if you don’t do anything different or special, others will admire you and see you as competent, capable and successful. (Good lighting is everything!) Gemini (May 21-June 20)

Items you will need:

3 cotton balls
1 green sheet of paper or cloth
1 brown candle
1 lighter or match

(Spell)

Light a brown candle on a fire-proof surface. Nearby, lay out a sheet of green paper or cloth in front of you. At the far end of the paper or cloth, place three cotton balls. These cotton balls represent sheep.
Say this chant:

“I’m bringing in the sheep
And reaping my rewards.
One step back,
But another two forwards.
They’ve been out in the pastures
All day.
I’ve worked them hard.
Now, it’s time to pay.”

Bring the cotton balls toward you and blow out the candle. Whatever you’ve been working on should bring you good rewards.

A reader writes in asking, “I want to do a full moon ritual this month, but it’s getting really cold. Will the ritual still be effective if I do it inside?”

Another reader asks, “If I’m doing a full moon rite outside and the clouds cover the moon, should I start over again?”

Answer:

The short answers to those are yes and no. Yes, your ritual will still be effective if you do it inside.

No, you don’t have to start over if the moon goes behind a cloud. Here’s why:

Just because you can’t see the moon doesn’t mean it’s not there, or that it’s no longer full. You’re basing your working or ritual on the energy of the full moon, and that never changes — whether you can see it or not.

  • Autumn Full Moon Ceremony

When to See January’s Full Moon

January’s full Wolf Moon reaches peak illumination on Friday, January 6, at 6:09 P.M. EST. At a full Moon,  the Moon is located on the opposite side of the Earth to the Sun so the face of the Moon facing towards the Earth will be completely illuminated by the Sun’s rays. Look for the Moon to rise from the northeastern horizon around sunset that evening.

January Micromoon

January’s full Moon is a “Micromoon” this year. Think of this term as the opposite of a “Supermoon.” It simply means that the full Moon is at its farthest point from Earth (not the nearest point). In astronomical terms, we call this “apogee.” Specifically, January’s Micro full Moon is about 252,600 miles from Earth.

Why is the Moon nearer or farther (in this instance) from Earth? Simple: The Moon orbits Earth in an elliptical path. One side is nearer to Earth and one side is farther. This distance does affect the Moon’s size and brightness, although it’s probably not that visible to the naked eye. The perceived size of the Moon from Earth is more related to the “Moon Illusion” and how close the Moon appears to the horizon; in this case, it’s high above the horizon so it may not appear to loom over us the way it appears when it’s near the horizon.
