Ra: Devotional Prayer for the Sun

Light a yellow or golden candle during this devotional.

Incense for Ra:

Frankincense, Sandalwood, Lemongrass.

Offerings to Ra:

Apples, Oranges, Lemons, Honey, Beer, Dates, Sunflowers.

Ra is the Sun god in Egyptian mythology.

The symbol of sunlight, giver of life, as well as responsible for the cycle of death and resurrection. He is the god who represents the midday sun, at its maximum splendor.

At the beginning of the Old Kingdom, Ra was just one of several existing solar deities, but around BCE he had become the official god of the pharaohs, who considered themselves his children, and even his incarnations. During Dynasty V his status was elevated to national deity and later linked to the Theban god Amun to become Amun-Ra, the main deity of the Egyptian pantheon.

His most usual representation was that of a man with a hawk’s head, on which he carried the solar disk. Another form of worship given to this deity was as Ra-Horajti, a solar god with a hawk’s head, crowned by the solar disk and a halo, with a Was-sceptre and an ankh.

This prayer can be used as part of you daily Wiccan devotional routine, or in a spell where you want to add attributes related to the Sun, such as Fire, heat, growth, or success.

Devotional text

O solar disk, lord of radiance, rising on the horizon every day,

may you shine on the face of your servant.

I have come before you; may I be with you to see your Disk every day.

I praise you when you shine,

And I speak to you when you rise.

You bring morning to exalt your forms,

and you ascend to magnify your beauties.

Advancing, you fashion your limbs in gold;

You turn your face to the west,

and my arms are raised in acclamation of your setting in life;

indeed, it is you who who is eternally praised when you set in the Celestial Waters.

I place you in my heart without weakness, more divine than the gods.

Praise to you, rising as gold,

bringing dawn to the Two Lands on the day of your birth.

You have brightened the circuit of the solar disk with great brightness,

rising from the Celestial Waters.

Causing every land, every town, and every house to celebrate,

protected by your beauties,

holding up your soul with food and drink offerings.

You will sail over the substance of heaven;

you will join with the stars.

Hymns will be made for you in the boat;

you will be called in the Morning Boat.

I will see you in your shrine,

As you make your disk to set every day,

drawing on the Evening Boat to its arrival.

May you have a fair wind, as the boat sets out on its journey,

and sails on till it comes into port.

The gods of the South, the gods of the North,

the gods of the West, and the gods of the East praise you,

Make my spirit-soul to be glorious,

make my Heart-soul to be divine.

You are worshipped as you set, Lord of the gods,

you are exalted by reason of your wondrous works.

Shine you with the rays of light on my body day by day, on me.

June 12, 2024

The current moon phase for June 12th, 2024 is the Waxing Crescent phase.

On this day, the moon is 6.12 days old and 34.24% illuminated with a tilt of 153.314°. The approximate distance from Earth to the moon is 401,488.97 km and the moon sign is Virgo.

The Moon phase for June 12th, 2024 is a Waxing Crescent phase. This is the phase where the moon started to become visible again after the New Moon.

In this part of the moon cycle, the Moon is moving away from the Sun and is becoming more and more illuminated by sunlight. In this phase, the moon will go from 0.1% to 49.9% illuminated before reaching the First Quarter phase.

In the Waxing Crescent phase the moon rises before noon in the east, transits the meridian before sunset, before setting in the west before midnight.

The Waxing Crescent phase, like all moon phases, will last for just over 7 days. The actual length will vary because of the elliptical shaped orbit of the moon. The moon is close to the Sun in the sky and the right edge will become brighter as it approaches 50% illumination and the First Quarter phase

Fun fact: although only a small part of the Moon is illuminated in the Waxing Crescent phase, you can still sometimes see the rest of moon as faintly visible. This is known as “earthshine” or Da Vinci glow and is a result of sunlight being reflected off the Earth and back to the Moon.

Spell For Tuesday-Inviting Faries into Your Garden

Inviting Faries into Your Garden

Fairy Invitation Ritual

If you want to specifically invite fairies into your garden, try the following ritual.

What You’ll Need

  • flowers (see above)
  • white candle
  • the offering of quartz and cream/whole milk

What to Do
This ritual is best performed around Beltane or Midsummer but can be performed any time of the year your garden is blooming. Begin by setting your flowers, candle, and offerings on your garden or fairy altar. Light the candle and say,

“Fair fairies from near and far,
I invite you to dance in my yard.
Please stay awhile,
And brighten my garden with your smiles.
Bless these herbs and flowers,
And fill them with magical powers.
Use your magic to help them grow,
By the light of the moon’s glow.
Accept these giftes I give to thee,
By my will, so mote it be.”

Once you are finished, spend time with your altar until the candle burns low. Try and sense the fairies you have invited. You may feel the hair on your arms stand up or as if something is playing with your hair or ear. Leave the offerings on the altar overnight. Do not consume any of the food offerings you leave for the fairies. It is considered rude and disrespectful. Also, don’t expect the offering to disappear. Fairies consume the astral or spiritual essence of the offering. Leave the quartz on the altar indefinitely.

Remember to record the ritual in your BOS or on your ritual log worksheet.

Why You Did It
This spell, as mentioned, is best performed on or around Beltane or Midsummer. The reason for this is because these are two times when the veil for fairies is thin and therefore they are most likely to come out and be willing to take up residence in your garden. However, fairies can be called upon any time of the year, so feel free to use it whenever you get the change.

The candle helps to focus your spell and gives the fairies a light to use to guide them to your garden. Your candle will burn in this realm and the Otherworld, acting as a beacon to draw the fairies to you.

Fairies don’t like to be thanked, but they love to be shown respect in the form of food and shiny objects. Milk, cream, beer, or any of the other food offerings mentioned above are fairy favorites. Including such an offering in our ritual will likely attract fairies to your garden and act as a thank you without you verbally thanking them. You want to make sure the fairies are happy, otherwise, they are prone to cause mischief. The flowers are used for the same reason.

Word of Caution

Fairies are fickle and mischievous. Upsetting them can result in problems for you and anyone who steps foot on your property. Do not use pesticides in your garden. This will scare them off and keep them from coming back. Be good to the environment and animals. Fairies are creatures of the Earth; if you disrespect Her, fairies won’t come to your garden, no matter how much milk and honey you offer them.

If the fairies become unruly or you wish them to leave, tell them to. Cleanse your garden and home and tell the fairies you no longer need their assistance. If they still will not leave, try placing iron in your garden and around your home. Iron burns fairies so it’s a great deterrent.

Merry meet dear Sisters, Brothers, and Honored Guests, Welcome to WOTC! A Thought for Today

I am healing slowly but at least I can use the fingers on my left hand to type a little bit now. I am not ready to do tomorrow posts yet. I will return to doing the tomorrow posts as soon as I feel comfortable doing so. Found out after going to Urgent Care that I managed to hurt my next fairly bad also. Which explains why I cannot sit at my computer or anywhere else for that matter without quite a bit of pain and a pounding headache. As my dearest friend, Lady Rhiannon, keeps telling me for over 20 years I have to slow down and be more aware of what is a round me before I start walking.

If you want to see some information on any tradition of witchcraft, please put it in the comment section. I will try to find some information to post about it.

May your and your family’s lives be filled with all things positive!

Merry part until we merry meet again!

All Signs

This week is challenging because everyone is a bit grumpy. Of course, grumpiness is a choice. It’s true that certain circumstances are upsetting, but we have the choice of how to react. If I choose to be grumpy -the first person who suffers is me. I’m the first casualty. Then others are next. I might feel guilty for my behavior and justify it by validating my right to be being grumpy. Grrr. And so it goes. But if I choose not to be grumpy – I’ll be happier! Others will be happier! Each of us has this power of choice. Every day. This week will be the test. To grump or not to grump – that is the question.

Aries (March 21-April 19)

This is a fast-paced week. You’ve got things to do, places to go and people to see. You’re keen to read, write and learn new things. You might teach. Despite the fact that this week has its challenges, more than other signs, you have the good fortune of being able to appreciate your daily surroundings in a real, genuine way. Nevertheless, expect power struggles about money, earnings and cash flow; perhaps these confrontations are about something that you own, perhaps a possession. Someone might dispute the ownership, or harm your assets. Ironically, it’s timely for you to downsize and let go of what you don’t need. (Lighten up!)

Taurus (April 20-May 20)

This week will bring challenges your way. No question. For starters, you have a strong focus on money and possessions. (These are things you don’t take casually. Money matters.) And of course, you care about what you own, especially your antiques and collectibles. You also care about your property. These areas might or might not be why you’ll find yourself in a confrontation with an authority figure this week. Be careful because this clash could make you suffer defeat. (It’s a ruthless energy at play.) Initially, you might want to transform things and make them better, but you encounter an opposition. Grrr. Things could get nasty. Remember: Your first loss is your cheapest loss.

Gemini (May 21-June 20)

Well, there’s good news and there’s bad news. The good news is you have the advantage over all the other signs because the Sun, your ruler Mercury, Venus and lucky Jupiter are all in your sign! (Major horseshoes!) This makes things flow easily for you and boosts your good fortune. Furthermore, you’ll attract money, gifts and favours to you. That’s the good news. The bad news is that fiery Mars, in a hidden part of your chart, is at odds with Pluto, which will create opposition with others, especially at universities or with travel issues, or publishing, the media, medicine and the law. Steer clear of controversial subjects! Dealings with parents and bosses could be stressful. Don’t ask for approval or permission. Just wait.

Cancer (June 21-July 22)

I think you’ll handle the aggro of this week because you’re keeping a low profile. Most of the planets in your chart are “hiding” right now. But not all. Fiery Mars (which is tied up with your ego) is in your House of Friendships and Groups, and it’s at odds with Pluto. This is not the time to push your agenda with others, especially clubs and organizations. (This includes competitive sports.) Furthermore, Mercury is at odds with Saturn, which means legal matters might be stalled in the water. You might feel discouraged dealing with universities, foreign countries, other cultures and medical matters. Keep your head down and your powder dry.

Leo (July 23-Aug. 22)

A tricky part about this week is that for starters, it’s a popular time for you. You’re more active seeing friends and interacting with clubs and organizations. On top of that, your ambition is aroused, which means you’re pushing into various areas with more enthusiasm than usual. However, you might encounter criticism from a friend or a group. (If there is one sign who hates criticism – it’s you. You thrive on compliments!) Plus, you have issues related to taxes, shared property and insurance matters that might be depressing. Meanwhile, power struggles with partners, friends and bosses are also draining. “Et tu, Brute?” Tread water this week. (Read All Signs above.)

Virgo (Aug. 23-Sept. 22)

There’s no doubt that this is a challenging week for everyone, including you. However, on the upside, with four planets at the top of your chart, you look capable, attractive and appealing to others. You’ve got your game face on. (This is an advantage.) Nevertheless, conversations with partners and close friends will be challenging and difficult. Don’t take things to heart. Keep in mind that everyone is dealing with a lot of stress this week. Meanwhile, power struggles about politics, religion or ideological issues are also in the mix. This can be draining. Steer clear of these if you can. Get out into nature because this rejuvenates you.

Libra (Sept. 23-Oct. 22)

Many Librans work in the law or politics because you’re skilled in these areas. (You’re good with words and quick to see all sides of an issue.) Nevertheless, it is precisely these areas that might create problems with someone this week, especially related to your job, your health or even a pet. Regardless of what you think, someone older or more experienced might pull rank. You might face criticism and resistance. In addition to which, power struggles with romantic partners (or your kids) about shared property, shared responsibilities or funding might also be a sticky wicket. Try to avoid these areas this week. Take the high ground. (The view is better.)

Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 21)

Patience is a virtue. The irony is that the only way we can cultivate patience is by having it tested. If you’re relaxing on a beach while someone serves you delicious drinks with pink parasols in them as you watch waves breaking in a shimmering sun set – you don’t need to be patient. You need patience when people are irritating, you’re running late, you encounter unexpected obstacles and then your car breaks down on a busy bridge during rush hour. (If you can think of a way to add tangled Christmas tree lights to this scenario – even better.) Be patient with loved ones this week, especially partners. Expect discouraging news about financial matters. This too, shall pass.

Sagittarius (Nov. 22-Dec. 21)

This week Mercury along with other planets is opposite your sign opposing you. Furthermore, Mercury is at odds with Saturn. This is the classic situation for discouragement and tough times dealing with older family members. Meanwhile, in another part of the forest, power struggles related to your health, a pet or your job might become an issue. It’s all a bit much. (It will drive some to Bingo.) The thing to keep in mind is that the challenges and stresses that you encounter this week are temporary. It’s not “The way things are.” It’s “The way things are this week.” It’s important to get that into perspective. Speaking of perspective, five years from now, how much will any of this matter? Think about this.

Capricorn (Dec. 22-Jan. 19)

If you read All Signs above, you know this week is challenging. People will be grumpy, irritated and quick to anger. Circumstances might be difficult. Fortunately, more than any sign in the zodiac, you exemplify the saying, “When the going gets tough, the tough get going.” (Oh sure, “the tough” can also “go shopping.”) You’re not a quitter. You can handle adversity. Be patient with your kids. Be patient with your romantic partners. Don’t let issues that are work-related or related to your pet or even related to your health get you down. The saving grace to know is that this is a temporary speedbump. Ironically, your health and your job are going to improve immensely this year and next year as well! Count on this.

Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 18)

Be aware right from the get go that this week will have its challenges dealing with kids as well romantic partners. Issues related to the cost of vacations, social outings and sports-related matters might also create arguments. As if that weren’t enough, power struggles within the family are also taking place because increased chaos and activity on the home front are building up at this time. Do not be part of the problem. Work to be part of the solution. For that matter, the solution might just be to let things settle and find their own level. Although next week is a bit confusing, by the end of the month, things will restore themselves in a lovely way. So, you have to wait things out and do this with grace, patience and kindness to others. Cut someone some slack. It’s no biggie.

Pisces (Feb. 19-March 20)

Your focus on family, home repairs and redecorating projects, as well as entertaining at home, will continue this month. The key is to be patient with family members, especially older relatives and parents. Bite your tongue before you say something you might regret. Read the room. Censor your words. What’s to be gained by a clever but nasty retort? Nothing. But if you refrain from doing this, you gain in personal discipline by practising patience. Resist the urge to coerce others into your way of thinking, even if you’re right. Instead, take a step back – look at your life – alphabetize your blessings. The challenges this week are temporary.

Merry meet dear Sisters, Brothers, and Honored Guests, Welcome to WOTC!

I am typing one handed for the next few days because I tripped over our 100-pound male, Merlin, yesterday and flew through the air a little which was fun, but the landing wasn’t. I landed face down, did not hit my head thanks to my angels and other protection but did sprain both wrists, hit my both knees and my back isn’t talking to me. My left wrist is immobilized in a hard wrist splint thingy but still hurts if I try to use it very much. So, once again I win “not looking where I’m going and wind-up hurt award.” 😂 I will post what I can daily until my right wrist says stop. No tomorrow posts for now.

If you want to see some information on any tradition of witchcraft, please put it in the comment section. I will try to find some information to post about it.

May your and your family’s lives be filled with all things positive!

Merry part until we merry meet again!

Friday: The day of beauty

Friday: The day of beauty

Frigg was the Norse goddess of beauty, love, household, fertility and motherhood. She was Odin’s wife. She wonderfully balances out the dreadfulness of all the masculine gods sitting around our week table.

Derived from Latin Dies Veneris, Friday is viernes in Spanish, vendredi in French and venerdi in Italian. The day belongs to Venus, the Roman goddess of beauty, love and fertility.

True Beauty Spell

You need:

A dish full of earth (good soil, not dry, dusty dirt) A yellow candle A full-sized mirror Olive, patchouli, jasmine, or cinnamon essential oil A small flower pot A flower or plant seed

Anoint the candle with the essential oil you have chosen. Place it in the center of the dish of earth. Light it and sit down with it between you and a mirror.

Look deeply into the mirror, concentrate on your reflection. Without being vain, consider the things you find most beautiful about yourself — not just physically but mentally. What is your inner beauty, what is your outer beauty? It’s important that you never think of what you feel must be “changed”, be as positive about the beauty that you have already.

Perform this ritual 3 nights in a row.

Once the entire candle has burnt down, remove the wax from the dish. Place the earth from the dish inside a small flower pot and plant a seed inside it.

Water it and care for it so that it grows properly.
