Good Day WOTC Family and Friends!

Well, we have made it through another week in 2023. This has been a strange year for weather so far. Where I live, we were in near drought or drought up to this week when we had flood warnings. The big differences in temperatures and whatever else the weather wanted to do has been hard on me with having fibromyalgia and arthritis this summer. I know many of you are in the same boat as me with daily pain, aches, and stiffness. Hopefully, fall will be kinder to us, but I don’t count on it. I was fortunate enough to have one of my apprentices suggest a baneful herb to help with the pain ectara and to have it work for me. I am not going to give the name of the baneful herb as taken in the wrong dosage it can lead to death. If you would like some more information about it, please write to me at ladybeltane@witchesofthecraft.com and I will forward it to my herbalist to contact you.

At least the finical stress both myself and Big Dawg were under for the last year or so has been mostly lifted because of Lord Genish bring a good paying job to Big Dawg that he enjoys. Yes, it keeps both of us pretty busy most of the time, but it is worth it. The only drawback is driving miles and miles, and more miles through corn and soybean fields which makes getting to where we need to be really boring at times. At least we get to pick what days and hours we work which helps with the care of our fur kids and for them not to get to upset when we get home late for the last potty time of the day. An extra treat usually helps to smooth the upset feelings they have with us.

I’ve got to get back to doing the regular daily posts, so have a great weekend everyone!

Good Day WOTC Family and Friends!

We also do not expect to do something wrong to another person or animal or anything and be totally forgiven for the act just by praying to the son of the Christian God. We take personal responsibility for the wrongs we do than attempt to make amends. We know that in order for our Karma to stay in balance we need to right our wrongs no matter how hard that might be.

With this in mind I apologize to anyone I have inconvenienced by skipping or getting posts up late. I sincerely thank all of you that support me and WOTC with words, actions, money, or whatever.

May your joy be plentiful and your troubles few! Blessed be dear Sisters, Brothers and Friends!

Some Humor for Your Day

Good Day WOTC Family and Friends!

Today I am setting a goal of not missing a day of posting over the next Moon cycle (new Moon to new Moon). Don’t know if I will be able to do it or not because of my health lately but I am sure going to try to hit this goal for you.

What goal do you want to set for this next cycle of the Moon?

Good Day WOTC Family and Friends!

Soul Contract

The idea bred false conclusions

And a fateful contract

Signed in blood

Ancient text with ancient rite

Demon summoning

Lonely crossroads

It sounded easy

No payment due

Saved until a future day

Bargaining with your soul

What’s the value

None can say

They rather trade it away

Earthly pleasures

They’re easy to see

Wealth, fame, power

Living life so lavishly

Yet time

Time’s a mortal enemy

Try not to think

That eternal damnation

A constant cycle of cremation

But only after pain

And so much suffering

Distract yourself

Try not to see

Deal with it eventually

You want it now

Everything

Eternal youth and diamond rings

Pleasures only flesh can bring

Forgotten was the ancient spell

Your private highway

Your road to hell

Tied now to the hourglass

Amazing run will travel fast

The pact fulfilled

The payment due

Now he comes

Comes for you

Current Moon Phase

You can use this link to go forward or backward in time for Moon phase information. If you are curious, you can even find out what phase the Moon was in when you or anyone else was born.

From MoonGiant.com

The Moon’s current phase for today and tonight is a Waning Crescent phase. This phase is best viewed just before the sunrise in the western sky. In this phase the Moon’s illumination is growing smaller each day until the New Moon. During this part of the Moon cycle, the Moon is getting closer to the Sun as viewed from Earth and the night side of the Moon is facing the Earth with only a small edge of the Moon being illuminated. It can also be a great time to see the features of the Moon’s surface. Along the edge where the illuminated portion meets the dark side, the craters and mountains cast long shadows making them easier to observe with a telescope or binoculars.

Visit the August 2023 Moon Phases Calendar to see all the daily moon phase for this month.

Today’s Waning Crescent Phase

The Waning Crescent on August 15 has an illumination of 1%. This is the percentage of the Moon illuminated by the Sun. The illumination is constantly changing and can vary up to 10% a day. On August 15 the Moon is 28.72 days old. This refers to how many days it has been since the last New Moon. Some Humor for Your Day

From Reader’s Digest

Look on the bright side, at least Mondays only happen once a week. Once a week is more than enough.

If Monday was a movie, it would be very long and boring. No one would ever want to watch it.

Sunday and Monday are in a fight. Who wins? Sunday. Monday is a weekday.

Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, I blinked, Monday. The weekend goes by way too fast.

Ok so this is very dry humor today. Enjoy your week.

Good Day WOTC Family and Friends!

Hello dear Sisters, Brothers, and Friends! I am still waiting for further votes to know how you all would like the regular daily posts to come to your email’s inbox.

Please take a couple of minutes out of your busy day to tell me what you want. For today I am going by the votes I tallied early Sunday morning before getting things ready for my grandson’s birthday party Sunday afternoon.

I am a little confused, which is easily done lately, by the two people who have voted on Saturday, August 12th as they both said they want individual posts for everything but also want to daily and birthday horoscopes as well as the current moon phase and northern hemisphere’s planetary positions in 2 combined posts. If the votes are reading this, could you please clarify that for me separate posts for everything or the 2 combined posts and everything else separate?

Off to do tomorrow’s posts before leaving to go to the doctor for my yearly checkup…oh what fun…not! I wish you all a great Monday!

Once in a Blue Moon – The Origins and Meaning Behind the Phrase c. 2015

Once in a Blue Moon

The Origins and Meaning Behind the Phrase

You’ve probably heard the phrase “once in a blue Moon”, usually referring to a rare event. But where does the phrase come from? And does the Moon ever actually appear blue?
The Meaning of “Blue Moon”

Dating back to the 1800’s the term “blue moon” was used by the Farmer’s Almanac to denote the appearance of a third full Moon in a season where four full Moon’s will occur. Since there are normally 12 full Moon’s a year (one per month), this works out to three per quarter (three month period).

However, occasionally a quarter will see four full Moon’s.

The naming arises because each Moon in a given season has its own name. This tradition of naming full Moons has existed for hundreds of years across many cultures. The names generally accepted today are those coming from the Farmer’s Almanac.

For instance, during the second quarter of the year, the Moons are named Pink (April), Flower (May) and Strawberry (June). However, should another full Moon appear during this quarter it would be called, by default, a Blue Moon. Since the third of the four full Moon’s in a quarter is called the Blue Moon, the order of Moon’s in the second quarter of the year would be Pink, Flower, Blue and Strawberry.

Since Blue Moons only occur about once every three years, it became becomes a convenient measure of a long period of time, therefore giving rise to the cliche “once in a blue moon”.
A Misunderstanding Leads To A New Definition

While the above is the generally accepted meaning for Blue Moon, a misunderstanding lead to a new definition being adopted that today is the more often quoted.

In an article, “Once in a Blue Moon”, that appeared in the March 1946 edition of Sky and Telescope Magazine the author, James Hugh Pruett incorrectly stated that the Blue Moon was the name given to the second full Moon that appeared in any given month.

He had drawn this conclusion by looking at the 1937 Farmer’s Almanac. His analysis of the data therein lead him to draw the conclusion that, “seven times in 19 years there were — and still are — 13 full moons in a year. This gives 11 months with one full moon each and one with two. This second in a month, so I interpret it, was called Blue Moon.”

While the definition put forth by Pruett could coincidently be correct, it is not strictly true. For instance if we examine the example from earlier, it is possible that May could have two full Moons. Therefore the second full Moon in May would be called the Blue Moon (since it is always the third full Moon in the quarter). So, Pruett’s definition would be consistent with the traditional description. But, if two full Moons fall in June, the first full Moon would be the Blue Moon, rendering the two definitions inconsistent.

So, even though Pruett’s definition isn’t strictly correct, it became the adopted definition most widely used. In fact, it is so widespread that it is not uncommon for books to use Pruett’s definition over the correct one.

While actual Blue Moons only occur about once every three years, occurrences of two full Moons on a month are much more frequent. The years 2009 and 2010 saw multiple examples of this phenomenon, while 2011 will go without a single such event.
Does the Moon Ever Actually Appear Blue?

While the term Blue Moon is linked to full Moon events, it actually has nothing to do with the Moon’s color. However, under certain circumstances, the Moon can actually appear blue, even during non-full Moon nights.

The conditions under which a full Moon will occur have to do with moisture, gas and particulates in the atmosphere. When atmospheric conditions favor, for whatever reason, the existence of particles larger than 0.7 microns red light is easily scattered, while blue wavelenghts pass undisturbed. The result is that the Moon appears bluer (or some shade of grayish blue) than normal.

These conditions almost always limited to events such as volcanic eruptions or other large fires that fill the sky with smoke and dust particles. As winds carry these particles up into the atmosphere, certain regions of the world will experience these “blue” Moons.

Historical instances of visibly blue Moons include the eruption of Mt. St. Helens in 1980, and Mount Pinatubo in 1991.

Weekly Horoscope Sunday, August 13 to Saturday, August 19, 2023

All Signs

This is an exciting week! It’s time to indulge our love of fashion, art and beautiful things. Although we’re all prepared to work, what we really want to do is have fun! (Yes – that “work hard/party hard” motto is alive and well.) On Wednesday, the New Moon takes place in glamorous, dramatic Leo. However, it is surrounded by disruption and exciting, new directions because on Tuesday, the Sun is at odds with unpredictable Uranus, and again on Wednesday, Mars is also dancing with Uranus. This means people are working, people are playing and people are eager for new ways of doing things. Life is full of exciting possibilities. “It’s all I ever wanted since I heard about it a minute ago!” (This column may be monitored for quality assurance.)

Aries (March 21-April 19)

Of course, this will be a playful, fun-loving and romantic week for you. No question. Nevertheless, do be aware that sudden changes might take place that affect your job, your work and even your health. You might explore a new job. You might see a new way to earn money. You might meet someone unusual through your work. Surprises related to pets are also possible. This particular New Moon urges you to respect your creative talents. (You love hobbies and crafts.) What might be a new approach to how you use your talents? For some, this new approach might relate to a style of parenting; for others, it could mean new love. (Lions and tigers and bears, oh my!)

Taurus (April 20-May 20)

This is a busy week for you because you’re juggling a lot of things in the air. Social plans will constantly change. Surprise invitations will pop up. Ditto for cancellations. New romance, new flirtations, new activities, new hobbies, fun getaways and events that are amusing will be stimulating. Parents take note that this could be an accident-prone time for your kids so be vigilant. Pick fun clothes to wear. Be ready for anything – even an impromptu vacation. This week certainly sizzles! Meanwhile the New Moon on Wednesday is your best chance all year to consider how you can improve family relationships; and also what you can do to improve your home and how you enjoy where you live.

Gemini (May 21-June 20)

The energy for you this week is bright, crisp and full of possibilities because you will be full of new ideas and new urges. Wednesday’s New Moon is the best time all year to think about your style of communicating with others. How can you speak better so that others really hear you? Likewise, how can you listen with more awareness? Meanwhile, something will upset or change your home routine this week. Could be anything. It might be renovations or visiting company. Or you might have new ideas about how to do things, or changes that involve home repairs, redecorating ideas or new ways to communicate to family members. Change is in the air!

Cancer (June 21-July 22)

This is a fast-paced week, and your mind is brimming with original ideas. However, this week you will encounter interruptions to your daily routine. Be careful because it’s a mildly accident-prone time, so pay attention to everything you say and do. Nevertheless, this same influence could trigger genius-like ideas or a fresh approach to something. Note: If you want to begin something new, wait until Mercury retrograde is over, which is the middle of September. But to be really safe (if you’re starting a new business), wait until the beginning of October. The New Moon this week is the perfect time to introduce new ways of handling your money and your possessions. Ka-ching!

Leo (July 23-Aug. 22)

You are empowered because the Sun and Venus are in your sign; plus, the New Moon takes place in your sign on Wednesday, something that happens only once a year. This is the perfect week to take a realistic look in the mirror to see how you can improve the image you create on your world. Wardrobe? Hair? Shoes? You will make impulsive purchases this week. (Keep your receipts.) Because an unpredictable influence might impact your wealth and your possessions, be careful. Lock your car. Protect what you own. On the upside, you might discover a way to boost your earnings! Certainly, with Jupiter at the top of your chart, others admire your success and want you on their team.

Virgo (Aug. 23-Sept. 22)

Get ready because this week has detours, surprises and unexpected happenings because both Mercury and Mars are in your sign sparring with wild, unpredictable Uranus. This will make you impulsive. You will suddenly do and say things unexpectedly. Likewise, the universe will throw some surprises your way. Please note: this is a mildly accident-prone influence for you so pay attention: be aware of everything you say and do. But aside from that, stay light on your feet and be ready for anything! Do your laundry. (You might need to pack fast?) Stock the fridge. (Surprise company?) All you can do is play things by ear and roll with what happens.

Libra (Sept. 23-Oct. 22)

This week the New Moon is in your House of Friendships, which is the only time all year this happens. This means now is the perfect time to give serious thought to the friends that you have. Ask yourself, what kind of friend are you to others? Meanwhile, do you hang out with quality people? Do you like the friends you have? If you want to have more friends – be friendly! This is a good time to think about your connection with clubs and groups. Why? Actually, your associates are important because they affect your thinking, which in turn, affects your choices, which in turn, will affect your future. Your friends and associates are a very big deal. You might also feel restless with changes happening behind the scenes.

Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 21)

Others might surprise you this week. It might be a friend, especially someone younger? Or you might be surprised by someone who is competitive and a bit aggressive? Or someone in a group or an organization? Another aspect of this “fast surprise” could be that you decide to change your future goals? Someone might influence you or impress you, which in turn, makes you decide to change your goals? Meanwhile, the only New Moon all year that takes place at the top of your chart is happening this week. This dovetails with the possibility of you changing future goals because the New Moon will make you reassess your life direction. (Very interesting.)

Sagittarius (Nov. 22-Dec. 21)

Your interactions with bosses, parents, teachers and authority figures, including the police, will yield a few surprises this week. The painful one is – don’t get busted. The best one is – a surprise promotion or good news! Something might happen that gives you great press, which makes everyone admire you. “I win!” One thing is certain, whatever occurs out of the blue, will be public. Others will notice whatever happens. Meanwhile, this week’s New Moon is the best opportunity all year for you to make future travel plans. Where do you want to go? What can you do to expand your world with rich, exciting rewards? Think about this.

Capricorn (Dec. 22-Jan. 19)

Travel plans are tenuous this week. Specific plans might be cancelled or delayed. Conversely, some of you will have to suddenly travel when you did not expect to do so. In other words, it’s a crapshoot. This same unexpected and surprising quality might impact a medical situation or a legal matter. It might also affect your educational plans or something to do with writing a paper or a manuscript or taking a course. “And then, just like that – it was over.” Meanwhile, in another part of the forest, this week’s New Moon urges you to take a fresh look at how you handle debt, shared property, and anything that you own jointly with others. It’s time to reassess inheritances and estates. Heady stuff.

Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 18)

Please know that this is the best week of the entire year for you to give serious thought to how to improve your closest relationships. That’s because the New Moon this week (Wednesday) takes place opposite your sign (the only time all year) giving you a wonderful chance to set new goals, intentions and resolutions about how you relate to partners, close friends and spouses. (There’s always room for improvement – this we know.) Meanwhile, keep an eye on banking situations and anything to do with shared property, debt and inheritances because there will be some surprises and unexpected events impacting these areas. Don’t be caught asleep at the switch.

Pisces (Feb. 19-March 20)

A close friend, spouse or partner (professional or personal) will surprise you this week. They might have an unexpected suggestion? They might want to redefine the relationship? They might want more freedom in the relationship? Alternatively, you might meet someone new who is a real character. They’re unusual and exciting. Quite possibly, they will make you feel younger and more cutting-edge. Meanwhile, the only New Moon that happens all year in your House of Employment is taking place. Good Day WOTC Family and Friends!

If you would like to copy and print this out or save it to whatever you are reading it on, please do.

I have this hanging up in my home office now along side a picture of Lady Abyss and it has really made me think how I go about working on all things connected to WOTC’s website, WOTC’s School of Witchcraft along with its monthly get together, answering emails, and WOTC’s Lady Carla Beltane’s Grimoire on Patreon. It made me realize I had moved my focus to how make I was making from all of it on a monthly basis instead of continuing to do the posts ectara as a labor of love and to carry on the work Lady Abyss started over 2 decades ago to let society know that being pagan and/or a witch is an OK thing. By spreading fact instead of fiction about witchcraft and pagan spiritual and magickal paths in general.

May the Gods and Goddesses bless you and yours with all good things in your life.

Pagan Serenity Prayer

Lord and Lady granted me the power of Water, to accept the things I cannot change.

The power of Fire, for energy and courage to change the things I can.

The power of Air, for the ability to know the difference.

Grant me the power of Earth, for the strength to know and walk my path.

So mote it be! (or however you end a chant or a spell or a prayer.)

Some Humor for Your Day

I would change one thing on this graphic to WOTC…..Browsing it!

I wish you all a smooth Saturday with lots of relaxing and having fun!

Candle Divination

Information on divination with candles both tapers and seven day novena candles.

Casting Directions for ‘Candle Divination’

The art of Ceromancy or divination with candles has different kinds to it. The studying of the pictures candle wax makes in water OR th way a candle burns. The way a candle burns is actually called Lychnomancy or La Lingus Delle Candelle, “the language of the candle.”

As this is about Ceromancy this is what I will dicuss first then I will discuss Lychnomancy later on. Ceromancy is when the witch lights a candle and then drips wax from the candle into a bowl of water. Then the witch would search for images that form in the wax in the water. It’s that easy.

One can probably use the candle color that is suitable depending on the question. Pink for love, green for cash, brown for your home, etc.. Although it was traditional for you to use darker candles because the darker candle wax is easier to see in the water.

One Italian System of ceromancy is recorded in Judika Illes, The Element Encyclopedia of 5000 Spells, 2004 (p. 307)

Bind two tapers–not dripless beeswax candles. Place standing in a bowl of water. Place in the water, nettle leaves, cumin seeds, three rose hips, and a couple of sprigs of rue.

Light the candles. Observe the wax dripping into the water that is chilly. Interpret any contours formed by the hot wax solidifing from the cold water. The best interpretation of what a shape is and what it means is up to you.

Here are the common image meanings found in Ceromancy:

Aries (March 21-April 19)

It appears that the stars are prompting you to feel more and more confused because some things in your life are going to turn hectic.

Most natives that are going to find themselves in such a situation should blame it all on their past selves, more specifically on a certain decision they have taken in the past and that they knew wasn’t all right for them.

Taurus (April 20-May 20)

During this start of the week you are recommended to reevaluate some of the most important aspects in your life.

This might have to do with your personal or with your professional life. There are choices you need to update and there are other things you need to some thought into. For some natives this might be a personal turning point.

Gemini (May 21-June 20)

Despite this being the beginning of the week, your mind will be all set towards enjoying yourself so there are little chances for you to be actually capable of focusing on something important.

It might not be such a bad idea, given the current disposition, to simply go with the flow and to try and resort to activities that are entertaining and relaxed.

Cancer (June 21-July 22)

There are certain things switching in a completely different direction in your life and you might not be completely aware of them.

You might want to be more observant, especially when it comes to personal aspects, more likely your relationship with your partner. Some things aren’t what they seem anymore and you need to update that in your mind.

Leo (July 23-Aug. 22)

Today most natives are going to learn an important lesson, that of them not always being able to handle everything on their own and that of getting help not being such an offensive and demeaning thing.

They are going to get caught real bad in something important before they decide that it is best to ask for guidance and that asking for help doesn’t diminish their authority.

Virgo (Aug. 23-Sept. 22)

This Monday you might want to be careful to the way you are handling money, be them your own or of those around you.

This means that you should avoid all speculations and if you choose to invest or save them aside you should opt for methods that have no risk involved. Postpone any lending or borrowing money for a different time.

Libra (Sept. 23-Oct. 22)

Today you will be put in the situation to sell something, be it something physical like an object or something that has to do with a service you provide.

Or for some natives this might mean selling their skills to a prospective employer or partner. Make sure you have all your arguments in order and try not to distract yourself from the route you propose from the beginning.

Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 21)

Today is a good day to be both focused at work and active afterwards. So why not tend to all your mundane tasks quickly, then put a bigger thought into what is new and needs to be resolved and then have the rest of the day at your disposition.

It is a good moment to spend some time outdoors, even go for a run or practice a sport.

Sagittarius (Nov. 22-Dec. 21)

Today you are going to be somewhat forced to take a break and tend to what your body needs. Maybe it’s taking revenge for all your ignoring or for all your excesses.

Make sure you don’t ignore it once again and that you take all the right measures to minimize the results of previous decisions and to start fresh. It is a good time to start exercising.

Capricorn (Dec. 22-Jan. 19)

It seems that the current disposition looks into the changes you’ve recently made in your life and to the new program you now have and it’s like, why not mess around with all this balance.

So prepare for unexpected turns of events and really stupid misunderstandings going on. Check and double check everything important for the next few days.

Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 18)

Today you are going to be somewhat influenced towards doing something good for the community you live in.

Either that you simply volunteer or that you have the support of your company to put some money aside for a charitable fund. It is also a good time to take a rest and work towards improving your wellness and mindset.

Pisces (Feb. 19-March 20)

Today you are going to be in quite a generous disposition, but only of showing off yourself and of giving others in order to appear better than other people.

You should set your priorities straight and figure that you have nothing to prove to anyone and that you should change the way you react in certain situations or in relation to certain people.

Some Humor For Friday

It’s Friday night which means I’m pounding shots at the club and getting crazy til the break of dawn. Except by pounding shots, I mean drinking SleepyTime tea. By the club, I mean my couch. By getting crazy, I mean watching Good Eats. And by break of dawn, I mean 10:30 ish.

Me: “This Friday night is lit! *sips wine, continues to fold laundry

What goes by slower than a boring movie? Friday afternoon.

The highlight of Friday night when you’re a parent is the 5 minutes between putting your kids to bed and passing out on your own.

August 11, 2023 Moon’s Current Phase and Northern Hemisphere’s Planetary Positions

Moon’s Current Phase

The Waning Crescent on August 11 has an illumination of 21%. This is the percentage of the Moon illuminated by the Sun. The illumination is constantly changing and can vary up to 10% a day. On August 11 the Moon is 25.09 days old. This refers to how many days it has been since the last New Moon. It takes 29.53 days for the Moon to orbit the Earth and go through the lunar cycle of all 8 Moon phases.
