The Daily OM for Feb. 12th – Soulful Voyages

Soulful Voyages
Travel Sensitivity

by Madisyn Taylor

Traveling can be hard on sensitive souls; routine and a few favorite items can make your journey easier.

The journeys we take are often as exhausting as they are exhilarating. The thrill we feel as we travel to a new environment may be undercut by our sensitivity to change, strange surroundings, and forced shifts in our usual habits. Air, road, and sea travel can be extremely taxing, and

many people find sleeping soundly in a strange bed exceedingly difficult. There are, however, numerous ways of taking the stress out of both short voyages and lengthy sojourns. Since much of the comfort we feel in our day-to-day lives stems from the fact that we enjoy the regularity of routine, adapting your typical customs to correspond with your travel schedule can alleviate the unease you experience while away from your home. Likewise, when you ground yourself by honoring the rituals that are a part of your daily life, you’ll no longer feel like you’re out of your element.

If you find yourself disconcerted by the foreignness of your surroundings when traveling, packing a few reassuring items from your home in your luggage can help you stay balanced. Photographs of loved ones, a favorite tea or snack, soft slippers, or even your own pillow can soothe the rigors associated with travel by plane, car, train, and ship while en route. Holding a crystal, gemstone, talisman, or medicine bag in your hand during particularly stressful periods of travel can help you stay relaxed and alert. Items imbued with healing or calming energy can help you de-stress once you reach your destination. As you unpack your travel altar, light a stick of sweet-smelling incense, or bask in the glow of a meditation candle, you’ll gradually begin to feel more grounded and serene in your new location.

During the course of your journey, try not to forget to indulge in those activities that center you and sustain your emotional equilibrium. If you tend to sleep and wake at the same time each day, maintaining that schedule will ensure you stay strong and healthy. Taking time out of your voyage agenda to write in a journal, meditate, do yoga, or walk can help you reconnect with yourself in an alien setting. However you restore your tranquility, your conscious choice to surround yourself with comforting possessions and focus on your well-being will make traveling a joy.

Oh God of life and light
Look upon me with favor today
Shed light upon me
Disperse my forebodings
And make me light of heart.
I center my thoughts upon the light.
Make your light to shine upon me and mine.
Make nothing or dark or threatening survive in your light
I pull my curtains so your light can shine in.
I go to let my face glow in your light.
I carry it with me.

WOTC Extra – Meditating on and balancing the chakras

WOTC Extra – Meditating on and balancing the chakras

Various techniques have been presented on working with the chakras, both optimising normal chakras to allow more ch’i energy through, and helping or balancing chakras that are not functioning properly (i.e. which may be unbalanced, blocked, or malfunctioning). I would like to state at the outset that I am no expert, so please do not email me for technical advice! But from what I have read and understood it seems there are several possible techniques.

Activating the chakra through breathing, visualisation, movement, and yoga postures. This is good for all chakras, and for balancing the organism as a whole. It particularily pertains to the Tantri, seven-chakra linear scheme, rather than the Taoist circular scheme of chakras. There are many specific exercises associated with each chakra, and usually different books give different exercises, so it would take too long to go through all the books, chakras, and exercises here. All I can do is recommend that you browse through the books on this subject in a well-stocked esoteric or theosophical bookshop, find one that you feel intuitively attracted to, and go with that.

Projecting love and light into the chakra. This is also good for malfunctioning and blocked chakras, but not overactive ones, which already have enough energy going through them as it is. Imagine the area of the affected chakra as pervaded by a brilliant white, golden, or other coloured light, which is of the complete essence of love. Imagine this light healing the chakra, opening it, and restoring it to its proper functioning. If for example you have difficulty with understanding abstract mental concepts, you would visualise light and love in brow and forehead chakras, allowing them to open harmoniously, and the energy to flow through.

Talking to or meditating on the particular chakra in question. This is the technique recommended by Genevieve Lewis Paulson. Focus on the chakra in question, massage the area of the body it pertains to, and breath into it. Let the energy flow through it, and ask yourself what needs to be done about the particular psychic state in question. If for example you have an overactive heart chakra, ask yourself in what situations are you being too giving and putting the needs of others before your own.

The microcosmic orbit. The microcosmic orbit is the most powerful technique of all, because it involves and includes all the chakras, the front and rear ones as well as the lower and higher ones. It is especially good for balancing the ch’i energy in all the chakras, and restoring and maintaining equilibrium in your entire being. There is no one technique here, but actually a number of different methods. One involves simply holding one’s attention on the particular chakra point, without any visualisation or breathing exercises. Alternatively (this is the main method taught by Mantak Chia), you can go through each chakra in turn, visualising the spiraling energy (24 clockwise and anticlockwise), and/or (where it is accesable to reach) moving the palm of the hand in a spiralling motion over the chakra in question. Various breathing techniques can also be used, such as breathing into each chakra in turn, and. Mantras can be employed, such as saying “chhhiii”, “aaauuummmm”, or any other mantra at that point. You could also or alternatively try feeling love or smiling energy in each chakra in turn, visualising white or golden or rainbow-coloured light, or doing whatever other techniques one feels comfortable with. The important thing is not to force things

Two points should be adhered to however. The first is to always begin and finish at either the Navel or the Sea of Ch’i 0centre. This is to be done even if you only meditate or focus on one or two other chakras. Due to the proximity of the Navel and Sea of Chi chakras with the Lower Tan Tien, the ch’i energy is balanced and grounded after each meditation

The second important point is to always progress down the front of the body, and up the back. This is the natural direction of flow of ch’i energy in the human body. I emphasise this point because it is so important yet so little known. I once attended a guided meditation where everyone was told to meditate on the chakras at the front of body from the lowest to the highest. This is the exact opposite of the true direction of flow, and it was obvious that the people running the show didn’t have the faintest idea what they were doing. Such ignorance is all too widespread in the New Age movement nowadays, for the simple reason that the New Age is a movement without a strict teachings or dogmas, so people are free both to arrive at the truth unhindered, and to make blunders without any safeguards. Thus, whilst one should follow one’s own truth, one should also be extremely careful to ensure that one’s psycho-spiritual practices are authentic ones

For those who are interested in exporing the practice of the microcosmic orbit beyond the basic introduction provided here, I would strongly recommend a perusal of the works of Mantak Chia especially

Awaken Healing Energy of the Tao.

For opening the specifically Tantric (“primary” or archetypal) chakras, Harish Johari some time back released a cassette tape giving the correct mantric sounds for each chakra and petal. This is still available and is very powerful.

In meditating on each chakra, you may want to use some of the correspondences listed in these web pages. Alternatively, you may want to choose your own correspondences, or not use any at all. The important thing is to let oneself be guided by what intuitively feels right, rather than slavishly follow what some book or guru or teaching says. This so in all aspects of life and with all psycho-spiritual practices, not just those techniques given here. The intention of this coverage is to encourage and stimulate your own exploration in these matters, not to add one more dogma to a world that is already too full of dogmas as it is.

February 11 – Daily Feast

February 11 – Daily Feast

Many things from the past echo faintly within us – voices, sounds, thoughts. Only a few ring clear like a bell from many long ago seasons. Persistent memories call us back to deal with details – some of them best forgotten. Why do we remember? Perhaps to clarify what we feel, to help us be more objective about the present moment. Or maybe to force us to see that pattern of our own lives so that we may throw out events that have been obstacles. Sometimes we remember just so we can be grateful. Like the well-fed dog that turns primitive at the sight of a bone, we pick up on our own instincts and react before we think. If we see what is about to happen we can meet it with good humor and have less need to make everyone in the present time pay dearly for what happened so long ago.

~ I want peace, that we may……sleep in our houses and rise in peace on both sides. ~

Tired Of Winter Yet? See If This Helps Beat the Winter Blues!

I always look through all my books during this time of year because I am bored. Every year, I keep coming back to this simple ritual. I do it and it gives me reassurance Spring is just around the corner. It will not only refresh your room, your soul but also you. I hope you try it and find it as useful as I have.

Winter Blue Banishment

Winters can be long and Spring can seem far away in February. Confined indoors by the cold and inhospitable weather, we can become depressed and lethargic. We neglect ourselves and leave a dusty and cluttered household. Despite that it lifts the spirits to clean out all the physical and mental cobwebs, we will find it hard to do this basic task. To start, simply choose one room, preferably. the room where you spend the most time. Burn some lavender incense. Smudge the corners of the room and yourself. Then open the blinds or drapes and call out:

“Go, snow, go. Come, Sun, Come!”

Keep the incense burning and with your broom walk deosil while  sweeping the ceilings. Chant:

“Sun and broom
swept the room.
Fill us with Spring perfume.”

Continue cleaning  from top to bottom. When the room is finished, take a deep breath and fill your lungs with the clean lavender scent. Envision your inner room as clean and full of Spring’s perfume.

FERTILITY SPELL

FERTILITY SPELL

You Will Need:

Patchouli oil
Sandalwood incense
2 pine cones
3 wheat heads
Green Candle
Green marker and paper

Rub the oil on the candle and anoint yourself around the womb area with a drop of oil.

Light the candle and incense and place the pine cones and wheat into a cauldron or container. Visualize your magickal goal and use the marker to draw yourself on the right hand side of the paper as you are now – draw yourself as you want to be on the left side (flat belly – pregnant belly will do just fine) visualize your goal while drawing – when you feel you’ve visualized enough tear the paper in half and fold the left side with your goal drawn on it into a small square and place it in your pocket then light the other paper in the candle flame and place it in the cauldron to burn.

Chant or pray for your goal to be realized as you watch the paper burn. Bury the contents of the cauldron in your yard – preferable a garden – leave an offering of a small crumb of cake on a crystal plate for any good spirits or fairies who might happen by.

Stay positive so you don’t attract the attention of any jealous or bad fairies!

Keep the paper with your goal drawn on it with you at all times until your wish is granted then you can place it in a safe place for luck.

Elder’s Meditation of the Day – February 8

Elder’s Meditation of the Day – February 8

“No individual or group can block another individual’s path or change it against what fits his nature and his purpose. It might be done for a time, but in the end it won’t work out.”

–Rolling Thunder, CHEROKEE

Every person is born for a purpose. We may know our purpose very early in our lives, or it may take us some time. Very often we need to experience many things before our purpose is clear to us. Sometimes we pick our goals to please others. Sometimes others pick our goals to make themselves happy. Often this makes us unhappy. We need to pray to the Creator and ask Him what our purpose is. When we live outside our purpose, our path is full of obstacles. When we live inside our purpose, our path is smooth. When we are aligned to our purpose, we are happy and content.

Great Spirit, whisper to me, in terms I can understand, what You would have me do and I will do it.

Candle Dressing Oil

 Dressing Oil

Based on an oil recipe handed down to me for dressing candles before ritual

What you need:

2 dram (10mL) clean amber or cobalt vial sweet almond oil (has vitamin E
for preservation)
6 drops sandalwood mysore e.o.
3 drops myrrh e.o.
3 drops frankincense e.o.

Add the essential oils to the bottle and swirl them gently in order to get them
blended. Add any crystals (make sure they are clean too) and then add your base
oil to top the bottle off. I don’t use crystals in all my blends but some people
add crystals to their magical blends to keep them charged with a specific
intention. Make sure to keep the oils stored away from light and write on a
sticker or piece of paper to be taped on the name of the blend, time, date, moon
phase, planetary hour and any other info you wish so that you know what you made and when for use later. As well, be careful as these blends will eventually go off so use your sniffer and be aware of what the blend should smell like. Once
it seems off, you can discard it, clean the bottle and start a fresh! Make sure
it is completely clean and if it cannot be completely cleaned, discard and use a
fresh one.
Remember – essential oils can cause reactions and oils like citrus can cause
photosensitivity so please – be careful ~ Herbs can be dangerous.

Essential oils are volatile so bottles left with tops off will soon lose their
potency. Ensure that oils don’t get too hot and, in the case of oils like
citrus-based oils, not too cold. To test your essential oils to see if they are
pure, put a drop or two on blotter paper. Genuine essential oils will evaporate
completely.

Let’s Talk Witch – Karmic Consequences

Witchy Cat Graphics & Comments
Let’s Talk Witch – Karmic Consequences

Karma is a Hindu concept that has been adopted by many Westerners, especially those in the New Age and Pagan communities. While many people talk about karma, not everyone fully understands it. Its effects over several lifetimes are also often misunderstood.

What Is Karma?

Karma is the Hindu law of cause and effect. For every action you take, there is a reaction, although it’s not equal and opposite. When you take beneficial action, you receive a beneficial effect. When you take baneful action, that will come back to you, too.

Your karma is a part of your soul, and it determines, in part, how your life will play out. If you live a just life, you will receive more just benefits. If something negative befalls you, look to your history and see what might have caused it.

Leftover Karma from Past Lives

The karmic backlash or reward for your actions is not always immediate. Sometimes it takes years to feel the full karmic effects of any action. The span of time between an action and its karmic effect can actually stretch over more than one lifetime. The actions you took in your past lives affect your current life to some degree. They might decide your role in this life, or how your life is lived. You can rest assured that really evil people will receive appropriate punishments in their future lives. Hopefully, you weren’t a terrible person in your past life, but if you can’t see any reason why so many things in your life seem to be going wrong, you might be dealing with retribution for mistakes you made in a previous life.

The Hindu concept of time is not strictly linear, so there can also be a karmic influence for an action you’ve not yet taken. Living the best life you can in order to balance out the negative weight on your karma is the best solution for dealing with karmic effects you had no role in creating in this life. A Hindu’s goal in life is to carry out his dharma (duty). If you attempt to serve your life purpose, it will benefit your karma and counterbalance the mistakes of the past or future

Daily Horoscopes for Wednesday, February 5th

Life seems a bit tamer after the past few high-energy days, but we quickly relax into the new emotional terrain once the Moon enters laid-back Taurus at 4:46 am EST. We may even be more peaceful with pleasure stemming from simple activities like walking in nature, reading a book or just spending time with friends and family. However, talking about our feelings might lead nowhere as messenger Mercury grinds to a halt and turns retrograde tomorrow.

Aries Horoscope

(Mar 21 – Apr 19)

Although you wish your life was less complicated today, you might have more work to do before you can separate yourself from the noise you have created. Your path may seem clear now, but it still could take quite a bit of determination on your part to reach your destination. Be careful not to slip into denial and fall back into complacency. There are changes that need to be made, so don’t give up the good fight. Your passionate persistence is your secret weapon.

Taurus Horoscope

(Apr 20 – May 20)

No matter how much you might want to focus on your feelings, it’s challenging to stop your mind from spinning around in circles today. You are thinking about so many different things and the thoughts continue to fly by, just out of your grasp. Frustration arises if you attempt to make use of your fantastic ideas, but there’s no reason to be overly concerned about productivity for now. Instead, just sit back and enjoy the show.

Gemini Horoscope

(May 21 – Jun 20)

You don’t want to wait quietly on the sidelines and let something important happen without adding your two cents. In fact, you may be so sure of your convictions today that you are driven to speak your mind whether or not others want to hear your opinion. Keep in mind that you will be better off in the long run if you limit your comments to only the most critical issues. Your words will have more impact if you choose your battles wisely.

Cancer Horoscope

(Jun 21 – Jul 22)

Your flexible attitude allows you to temporarily minimize an unresolved issue today. You can easily let go of emotions that were bothering you in return for a bit of spiritual refreshment and social enjoyment. However, you might not be ready to relinquish all your feelings, but at least set them aside for a while without judging anyone too harshly. Spending some quality time with your friends or family is more restorative if your heart is fully open to the experience.

Leo Horoscope

(Jul 23 – Aug 22)

You may be lost in contemplation today, as you Lions drift off into a rather complex dreamscape. However, ignoring the interpersonal dynamics at work is not a wise move since the current situation could be complicated by someone’s unexpressed feelings. As much as you want to escape into your inner world now, you must meet your professional obligations before slipping away to explore your imagination.

Virgo Horoscope

(Aug 23 – Sep 22)

You might have already scheduled some fun for yourself today, only to discover that nothing is going to happen quite as you thought. You can still enjoy yourself, but it won’t be without a bit of confusion creeping into your life. Bring yourself back to your center and shrug off the minor inconveniences or you could inadvertently make things worse. Remember the best way to minimize stress and impress others is to keep your sense of humor intact.

Libra Horoscope

(Sep 23 – Oct 22)

You can get all wrapped up in mental gymnastics now, even though your stoicism may prevent you from talking about your worries with others. You feel like you should be more lighthearted today, but there are serious issues that just won’t go away until you deal with them. Even with singular focus, resolution probably won’t come quickly. In the meantime, do something creative with your irritation instead of spreading it to others.

Scorpio Horoscope

(Oct 23 – Nov 21)

Ironically, you are aware of life’s simplicity and its many complications at the very same time. With the evocative Moon moving through sensible Taurus today, your primary drive is toward experiencing pleasure. Yet, as a Scorpio, you always enjoy delving into a good mystery. Be careful if it appears that someone else can ameliorate your need for complexity, for this is just an illusion. Like it or not, your fate is completely in your own hands.

Sagittarius Horoscope

(Nov 22 – Dec 21)

Returning to the basics isn’t what normally motivates you, but simplification just may be the most critical theme in your life now. You are at a significant intersection today, and taking the on-ramp to the busy freeway might not be your best choice. You could have a very positive influence on your environment, but you must step out of the fast lane and onto the road less traveled so you can create the type of connections you want.

Capricorn Horoscope

(Dec 22 – Jan 19)

Rethinking your core assumptions or reinventing your image offers the best chances for success today. Since this transformational process may continue for a while yet, it’s wise to review and reevaluate last year’s accomplishments while they are still fresh in your mind. Strive to put closure on as many loose ends as possible over the next few weeks to make plenty of room for your future exciting endeavors.

Aquarius Horoscope

(Jan 20 – Feb 18)

Inner conflict may stress you out as you begin to reconsider a logical decision you recently made. Unfortunately, your feelings might not fall in line with your rational analysis today as you expected. Thankfully, your dilemma isn’t all that obvious to anyone else; nevertheless, a special person could come to your rescue now. Remain open to receiving good news from a friend or family member, for it can provide just enough hope to settle your angst and nudge you in the right direction.

Pisces Horoscope

(Feb 19 – Mar 20)

Your current indecision gets in the way of finalizing your plans. Naturally, you want to do what is best, but your good intentions may go awry today, especially if your expectations are unrealistic. It’s difficult to say no to anything that sounds like fun, even if it isn’t very practical. Instead of needlessly complicating matters even more, rely on a second opinion from someone you trust before making any commitments now that you will later regret.

Daily Motivator for February 4th – No need for frustration

No need for frustration

Frustration is a painful, debilitating feeling that can often cause you to do  things you’ll regret. So choose to quickly let it go.

Frustration, as automatic and overpowering as it may seem, is a choice. And  you can always make a different choice.

The habit of reacting in frustration is just that, a habit. Like any other  habit you’ve developed, you can get rid of it when you choose.

Yes, life regularly presents you with difficult dilemmas for which  frustration is a perfectly understandable reaction. Other than grabbing your  attention, however, your frustration never does accomplish much.

So once you’re aware of the frustrating situation, make the choice to find a  more useful, effective response. Step back from the desire for instant drama,  and work on creating some long-term positive results.

Channel the high-powered energy of frustration into intentional, focused,  positive action. Give yourself the option to act effectively and appropriately,  and you’ll find you have no need for frustration.
