The Eight Phases of the Moon

The Moon, Queen of the NIght, and starship of the Mother Goddess, is the influential planetary body in the sky. Our response to her power is deeply embedded in us. She comes to us with a history; the representation of her major phases is still replicated today — )0( — and is used to symbolize the covenant with the Great Goddess. Her eight Phases related to the solar cycle of Pagan holidays, and the symbology is analogous, as both cycles start with the absence of light and march forward sing the same song.

The New Moon Phase

At the begging of Moon’s cycle, she slowly emerges from under the beam of the Sun, where she has been resting and gathering energy for the coming journey. From 0 degrees to 44 degrees in her zodiac cycle, the New Moon celebrates the rebirth of light, just as we do at Yule. The maiden is setting the stage and magic is afoot!

The Crescent Moon Phase

In the Crescent Moon phase (45 degrees – 89 degrees), she appears in the sky like a slim harvest sickle. Her curve mimics the round belly of the letter D. With the faintest of light in the sky, this Moon is poised for action, energizing new projects with fresh power, and offering new challenges. This phase is related to the sabbat of Imbolc.

The First Quater Phase

Seven days after the New Moon, the First Quarter Moon (90 degrees – 134 degrees) can add balance and considerable magic to your endeavors that burgeon with life. The waxing phase is the time to plant your sees, be they ideas or moonflowers. You’ll feel the drive to get a move on, to let go of the past, and be aggressive in working new spells. Half of the Moon is light and half is dark, just like the Quarter Day, Eostre (Ostara) or Spring Equinox, which divides the solar day into equal parts of light and dark.

The Gibbous Phase

Gibbous is a wonderful medieval word that describes the hunchbacked swell of the lady Moon as she moves from Maiden to Mother (135 degrees – 179 degrees). It’s time to evaluate new growth, eliminating what doesn’t work and finding more successful ways of doing things. Refine goals and prepare for the work of the Full Moon. The Gibbous Moon indicates that the most powerful time for magic is about to peak. This phase is related to the sabbat Beltane.

Full Moon Phase

The Full Moon (180 degrees – 224 degrees) reflects the golden glory of the Sun, light the night for ritual or planting or other agrarian* tasks. Crystals, herbs, and oils bated in the Moon’s light will be energized and ready to dedicate for pathwork. Consolidate efforts to move towards completion in short-term projects. This is the last of the big energy in this cycle for growth, but major undertakings can still be aggressively be set in motion. Look to the mythology of Midsummer to find a more profound meaning of the Full Moon

Disseminating Moon Phase

The Disseminating Moon (225 degrees – 269 degrees) indicates that it’s time to start drawing in; the project set in motion at the New Moon is maturing. Diets and other work of “letting go” can only properly be started now with the waning Moon. As the Moon starts to shrink, the side with the rounded curve of the letter D loses light and the viable curve faces the other way shaped like a C. This phase is related to the sabbat of Lammas.

Third Quater Phase

The Third Quater Moon (270 degrees – 314 degrees) is the crone-wise and still very powerful, but no longer fecund**. This Mabon Moon continues to power banishing work, expelling illness, negative thoughts and bad habits. Now is the time to weed and prune your life and in the garden. As worked started at New Moon crystallizes in its completion you are already beginning to feel the draw of a new cycle.

Balsamic Moon Phase

The Balsamic Moon (315 degrees – 360 degrees) provides the three and half days when you can best go indie yourself to search out what drives your passions and dislikes, so that you can understand them and let go. It’s necessary to prepare yourself for the rebirth of the next cycle, even while feeling out of step with everyone in the current one. If you missed the power of the FUll Moon phase to look into the future, the last 30 degrees of this cycle are very potent for prophecy work. This phase is related to the sabbat Samhain.

The Dark Moon

The Dark Moon rests for three and a half days while she gathers information and lays the foundation to implement new ideas. It occurs just before the beginning of the next lunar cycle.

Editor’s Note: The eight phase of the Moon as they are described in this article are different for the Moon’s quarter system, which used on the date pages of this book. The eight phase system divides the Moon cycle into segments, each of which can influence magical begun at that time. The quarter system divides the Moon’s cycle into four parts. The first quarter begins at the New Moon and continues until the Moon has moved 90 degree; the second quarter begins at 90 degrees and continues until the Full Moon (180 degrees); the third quarter begins with the FUll Moon (180 degrees) and continues for another 90 degrees to 270 degrees; and the fourth quarter begins at 270 degrees and continues to 360 degrees, a perfect circle and just before 0 degrees, the place of the New Moon. Although the two systems are different, you can easily compare them and use them together. In the quarter system, the New Moon phase and Crescent Moon phase of the eight-phase system combine to make the first quarter; the First Quarter phase and the Gibbous Moon phase combine to make the second quarter; the Full Moon and the Disseminating Moon phase combine to make the third quarter; The Third Quarter phase and the Balsamic Moon phase comebine to form the Forth Quarter. The DArk Moon is the time just before the end of one cycle and the beginning of the next. Although there are no actual days between cycles, it is the time just before the New Moon when seeds, dreams, and plans of the new cycle await birth.

All Signs

This week we have a lot of energy and a lot of idealism. Mercury is now officially retrograde. Planetary configurations will be encouraging, and then perhaps challenging for some. (Expect fading energy and frustration at trying to deal with practical issues.) It’s a mixed bag! Best to start the week with baby steps. Shrink your ambitious goals and begin small. You can do small. Small will get done. Small is good because it is doable. We like small. This way if you take care of small tasks, later, you’ll be glad they were done. My piano teacher always said, “When you’re sweeping the floor, take care of the corners because the middle will always take care of itself.”

Aries (March 21-April 19)

This week, more than usual, you seem to be involved with the wealth and possessions of someone else or shared property – something that is jointly owned. This includes real estate and it also includes debt. You might be interested in fundraising, especially to help people who need assistance. You can be effective in dealing with groups (and classes) including interactions with friends. Your desire to help someone in need will set in motion something powerful and inevitable that will return to you. This means whatever you do this week will ultimately be mutually beneficial, even if it looks like it’s a one-way street of giving. Just do it! “Fresh horses and whiskey for my men!”

Taurus (April 20-May 20)

There’s no question that you are pulling out all stops trying to be as organized as you can be given the challenge of Mercury retrograde’s delays, misplaced items, mixed-up messages, confusion and broken equipment. Oy! Fortunately, your energy is focused and strong, which will help you to be productive. Heed the advice in All Signs above. Whatever plans or projects that you have in mind, break them into smaller increments and tackle them with baby steps to begin. If you do this, you will accomplish more this week than facing them head-on. Relations with partners and close friends are excellent this week. It’s a mutually receptive lovefest! Kiss, kiss; hug, hug.

Gemini (May 21-June 20)

You’re still in play mode! Fun times, invitations to socialize, sports events, activities with kids and anything to do with the arts and the entertainment world all beckon to you! At the beginning of the week, you think you want to do it all! By midweek, you will see realize what is a more realistic expectation. Therefore, pull in your reins. Complete small tasks first and do what you can. Relations with coworkers are excellent this week. You might help someone or vice versa they might help you. Work-related travel is also likely. Old flames are in your rearview mirror. Hiccups with social plans might occur. Give yourself wiggle-room to deal with the unexpected this week. Make your work space more attractive.

Cancer (June 21-July 22)

An interesting week! Family reunions and opportunities to get in touch with family you haven’t seen for a while are at hand. DIY projects might be stalled along with other ambitious plans at home. Therefore, start small at the beginning of the week, and accomplish what you can before fatigue or obstacles arise. Meanwhile, romance is sizzling this week! Not only will you delight socializing with special people, you will welcome any opportunity to express your creative talents. Accept invitations to party, dine and enjoy the company of others. This includes kids. If you’re active in a creative project, you can get a lot done!

Leo (July 23-Aug. 22)

This will be a busy week. Get as much as you can done — right at the beginning. Be happy to do part of what you hope to achieve. Your pace is busy and you’re eager to enlighten others about many things! Nevertheless, Mercury is retrograde and it will dog your steps. Car problems, missed appointments, traffic delays, lost messages, computer glitches, broken equipment and confused communications will be par for the course. Nevertheless, you will enjoy time at home. You will enjoy redecorating where you live. You will enjoy entertaining where you live. This will be your prize — grab it.

Virgo (Aug. 23-Sept. 22)

You definitely have money on your mind this week – earnings, cash flow possessions and perhaps an important purchase. This is where it’s at for your sign right now. Fortunately, Venus is sitting nicely in your House of Communications, promoting your ability to sweettalk everyone. You will enjoy discussions with neighbours, siblings and relatives. You will enjoy the beauty of your daily surroundings. You will enjoy your popularity with others because you see they truly care for you – they’re glad to see your face. This is reassuring. It’s so nice when someone wants to see your face. Be extra clear in all your communications with others to avoid misunderstandings.

Libra (Sept. 23-Oct. 22)

It’s all about you dear Libra, with the Sun, retrograde Mercury and fiery Mars in your sign. Mercury is definitely retrograde starting this week, which means you will encounter ex-partners and old friends from the past in person, online or in your dreams. Mars along with the Sun will give you lots of energy! Nevertheless, there will be some fuzzy deflection from Neptune, which could rob you of some of your ambitious productivity. Therefore, start this week with a strong intention to get something done, but break it into smaller parts so that something is quickly doable. Meanwhile, you might attract money to you this week. You might also buy beautiful things for yourself or loved ones. Give serious thought to your moneymaking ideas.

Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 21)

Continue to keep your head down this week because you are best served by working alone or behind the scenes. Fortunately, Mercury is officially retrograde now, which means any attempt to study history or pursue the past or dig for details in the past will probably be successful. Meanwhile, trust your hunches. If you encounter someone and you think they don’t have your best interests at heart – make a hasty retreat. Life is too short to hang around someone who doesn’t want the best for you. (We both know that.) It’s also important to remember that relationships are reciprocal: if someone benefits you, you will benefit them. It’s mutual. (I like that part.)

Sagittarius (Nov. 22-Dec. 21)

This is a popular week for you! Many of you are involved with younger contacts – perhaps friends and members of groups and organizations from your past. It’s good to catch up on what’s been happening in other people’s lives. You might also be physically involved in a competition through sports or some other activity with others. (You might even play a take-charge role in this.) Enjoy schmoozing with others because this is a positive time for you. Meanwhile, some of you are involved in a secret love affair or something special that is going on behind the scenes. (It might relate to a family secret especially if it is related to drugs or alcohol.) It’s a bit hush hush.

Capricorn (Dec. 22-Jan. 19)

This is a strong time for you! The Sun, Mars and Mercury retrograde are all at the top of your chart, which calls attention to you! Specifically, the Sun makes you look excellent in the eyes of others. People admire you, especially people in authority. (We like!) With this kind of easy endorsement, now is the time to make your pitch and do what you can to advance your agenda. Mars this high in your chart, arouses your ambition, which means you have the courage to make your pitch. (Even better.) The placement of Venus now smooths relations with friends, groups and organizations, which means doors will open for you at this time. You have the advantage! It’s important that you know this so that you can use it to your benefit.

Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 18)

Lately, you feel adventurous! You’re exploring new ideas, new philosophies, new belief systems and meeting people from different cultures and backgrounds. You’re flexing your intellectual muscles and learning more about what is possible. This new energy and drive make you want to travel and explore new places and meet new faces. However, Mercury retrograde will attract friends from the past to you, which is always a chance to talk about the bad old days and trade lies. Meanwhile, with Venus at the top of your chart, people in authority look kindly on you. They admire you. Someone might even ask for your advice about how to make something look more attractive. In fact, relations with bosses are so cozy, some of you will strike up a romance.

Pisces (Feb. 19-March 20)

You continue to be focused on money, debt, inheritances, shared property, funding from the government, taxes and anything to do with your partner’s wealth or assets. The reason for this could be that some of you are disputing issues in these areas. Others might have old business from the past back on the table again. Travel plans look promising – no question. Some of you might strike up a romance with someone “different.” Meanwhile, let your confidence grow because good things are coming your way. Lucky Jupiter will be in your sign for the first five months of next year, which will definitely bring you good fortune and increase your optimism and sense of happiness! In fact, 2022-23 you’ll get richer! Ka-ching!

A Thought for Today

What is the Reason for Rain on Samhain?

[Revisions made September 25,2021 so a couple of dates might be wrong. The dates for my father’s and mother’s births and deaths are correct]

I have often wonder why it almost always rains and is cold on Samhain. Where I live, in the central United States, it usually nice the day before and the day after but rarely the day of.

This morning my Guides gave me an answer to this question that seems so right I have no idea why I never thought of it. It rains on Samhain because the veil between our world and the Summerlands is very thin allowing what the Spirits of our family and friends are feeling about residing in the Summerlands to come into our world and our feelings to go easier into their world. It also makes it easier to converse with them in many different ways (coming soon a post explaining this more)

Just as we weep for loved ones lost because we miss the person they were in this lifetime they weep because they miss us also so. The rain we experience is in reality their tears. The cold is because they do not need heat to keep a incarnated body warm like we do in this world.

When honoring your ancestors this Samhain remember to take into account their feelings and try to explain yours to them. Communication is not just important when we some someone face to face it is important when dealing with those who have crossed over too.  Do not think the dialogue has to stop when Samhain is over, it may not be as easy to hear them but if they have something you really need to hear you will. Talk to them, ask them questions, tell them things. Just because they no longer have a physical body does not mean they are not interested in things going on in your life.

When helping those who passed away this past year cross into the Summerlands remind them of the happiness, rest, joy and love they will feel there instead of the cold uncertainty of roaming this world with no physical body. If you feel they are hanging on to something in this world or have unfinished business they want to take care before moving across the veil ask how you can help them let go or finish the unfinished business. It is important for us all to cross into the Summerlands after our physical bodies will no longer support life in this world, so we can rejuvenate and be reborn into our next life time.

Talking with my mom today and helping her to finish something she left undone (this I will not share as it was very personal between the two of us) after dreaming about her the other night (October 2015) for the first time since she passed (Born December 12, 1934 Died August 24, 2015) brought a calm to me I have not felt since the day before she passed. I knew the moment my mom passed as I felt a pull on both my heart and root charkas the two most connected thigs in our human body that connect us our to our parents and our children. She is happy and excited to be fully reunited with my dad, he refused rebirth until she and he could have some time together alone and with my eight siblings, who all passed away shortly before or after birth, in the Summerlands They both told me today that they will wait for me to join them in the future when it is my time to return to the Summerlands before they consider another lifetime in this world. Which made me feel very loved and special. It also makes me cry happy/sad tears every time I think about the sacrifice they choose to make for me. You see my dad (Born March 25, 1934) crossed over the veil exactly one month before my twelfth birthday on April 1, 1970. (Please NO April Fool’s jokes. Thank you)

I am sorry if this post seems to ramble some but I was typing as it came to me and had a couple of interruptions for trick-or-treater, all the kids in the neighborhood love to come to the Witch’s house because she gives out good treat if they do not trick her.

[Some of this paragraph maybe early while some of it could be what  you needed to read today] May your Samhain be blessed,. May your time with your ancestors be joyful. My your New Year be filled with everything you need, a warm home, loving family and friends, enough food to keep hunger at bay, clothing to keep you comfortable and even bring you a way to get a couple of things you just want.

78 Tarot Card Base On Marseilles Tarot

Menu of Contents

I. Overview Marseilles Tarot

Marseilles Tarot (Tarot de Marseilles) is a mystical system that emerged from the 13th century and was completed in the 17th century in France. From the beginning, the deck was popularly used for magical research, divination, and meditation to this day.

The deck according to Tarot De Marseille standard has a simple image system of Minor Arcana, only includes the symbol and its use must be based on multiple algorithms, not merely looking at images and symbols.

Tarot readers who lean on academics and research and less practice in the reading should look to more complicated decks according to Marseille or Thoth standards because of the depth in its layers of knowledge.

Tarot De Marseille, instead of being used for interpretation, is found primarily to play cards, both in betting halls and in private homes. Marseille cards were once printed from wood carving and kept a modest and simple art form.

The Fool – Le Mat Tarot does not have a number but a name. It is the only card in the Major Arcana that is not defined by numbers. The card represents a boundless source of energy, complete freedom, madness, confusion, chaos, or even the urge to create basic creativity. In traditional card games, the Fool is portrayed by characters like the Joker or unusual characters/cards that can represent any other card, at any time without matching any of them. The Fool’s keyword phrase is “All roads are mine”.

The Magician takes number one. This character contains all potential; it is like the starting point from which the universe appeared. For the Magician, everything is possible. He had a range of elements displayed on the table in front of him that he could use every time he wanted, and a small bag that was not difficult to see and seems to be an endless bag, like the goat horn with fruit (symbolizing abundance). From his table, this character works towards the universe and spiritual life.

Date: September 20  – 23

Other Names: Spring Equinox, Lady Day, Alban Eiler (Druidic)

Pronunciations: uh-star-uh, oh-star-uh

As Spring reaches its midpoint, night and day stand in perfect balance, with light on the increase. The young Sun God now celebrates a hierogamy (sacred marriage) with the young Maiden Goddess, who conceives. In nine months, she will again become the Great Mother. It is a time of great fertility, new growth, and newborn animals.

The next full moon (a time of increased births) is called the Ostara and is sacred to Eostre the Saxon Lunar Goddess of fertility (from whence we get the word estrogen, whose two symbols were the egg and the rabbit.

The Christian religion adopted these emblems for Easter which is celebrated on the first Sunday after the first full moon following the vernal equinox. The theme of the conception of the Goddess was adapted as the Feast of the Annunciation, occurring on the alternative fixed calendar date of March 25 Old Lady Day, the earlier date of the equinox. Lady Day may also refer to other goddesses (such as Venus and Aphrodite), many of whom have festivals celebrated at this time.

Ancient Celebrations for Today – OSTARA

For more about Ostara and the Wheel of The Year

Ostara marks the Spring Equinox, which happens between March 19 -23. Ostara is a pagan celebration of the German goddess Eostre and the origins of the Christian celebration of Easter. As the beginning of spring Ostara is a good time to literally and figuratively plant seeds for the future.

In modern day living Ostara is also good time to start taking action on the ideas and goals you started thinking about around Yule and Imbolc. What you plant during Ostara will be ready to be harvested during the coming summer months and the sabbats of Beltane, Litha and Lughnasadh.

Ostara is also a good time to freshen up your home and life. Take time to do some spring cleaning. Cleaning isn’t just limited to your home. Take some time to declutter and clean up areas where you spend a lot of time, like your car, your computer (delete those old emails!) or your work office.

Symbols Of Ostara

Colors:  Green, pink, blue

Foods:  Eggs, honey, sprouted greens, baked goods, asparagus

Stones:  Aquamarine, amethyst, rose quartz

Symbols:  Rabbits, eggs, spring flowers , lambs, clover, baskets

Flowers & Plants: clover, daffodils, crocus, tulips

Ancient Celebrations for Today – MABON

For more about Mabon and the Wheel of The Year

Known as the pagan Thanksgiving, Mabon marks the Autumn Equinox, when day and night are equal, making it a time of balance, equality and harmony.  In ancient times Mabon was a celebration of the second harvest (Lughnasadh was the first) when farmers gathered hearty foods like gourds, pumpkins, grapes and apples.

Modern Mabon celebrations are a time to give thanks for the abundance of Mother Earth – both literally and spiritually.  It’s also a good time to reflect on the Wheel of the Year, recognizing your successes and letting go of the things that did not serve you during the past twelve months.

History Of Mabon

Modern Pagans began celebrating Mabon as the last of the eight Sabbats in the 1970s, but its roots as a harvest festival go back to ancient times.

Named after the ancient Welsh hero named Mabon ap Modron, which means Son of Mother, Mabon is the second of three harvest festivals that take place in the Wheel of the Year (Lughnasadh is the first and Samhain is the third).  Similar to Apollo, the figure of Mabon was depicted as a handsome youth with a lyre. As a baby Mabon was said to have been held hostage as a baby in the underworld, similar to the story of Persephone and Demeter.

Indeed, the Greek goddess Demeter is much more closely associated with the Autumn harvest, as…

Date: September 20th – 23rd, depending on the year

Other Names: Atumn Equinox, 2nd Harvest

Pronunciations: MAY-bun, MAY-bon, MAH-boon, MAH-bawn

The Autumn Equinox divides the day and night equally, and we all take a moment to pay our respects to the impending dark. We also give thanks to the waning sunlight, as we store our harvest of this year’s crops. The Druids call this celebration, Mea’n Fo’mhair, and honor the The Green Man, the God of the Forest, by offering libations to trees. Offerings of ciders, wines, herbs and fertilizer are appropriate at this time. Wiccans celebrate the aging Goddess as she passes from Mother to Crone, and her consort the God as he prepares for death and re-birth.

Various other names for this Lesser Wiccan Sabbat are The Second Harvest Festival, Wine Harvest, Feast of Avalon, Equinozio di Autunno (Strega), Alben Elfed (Caledonii), or Cornucopia. The Teutonic name, Winter Finding, spans a period of time from the Sabbat to Oct. 15th, Winter’s Night, which is the Norse New Year.

At this festival it is appropriate to wear all of your finery and dine and celebrate in a lavish setting. It is the drawing to and of family as we prepare for the winding down of the year at Samhain. It is a time to finish old business as we ready for a period of rest, relaxation, and reflection.

Mabon is considered a time of the Mysteries. It is a time to honor Aging Deities and the Spirit World. Considered a time of balance, it is when we stop and relax and enjoy the fruits of our personal harvests, whether they be from toiling in our gardens, working at our jobs, raising our families, or just coping with the hussle-bussle of everyday life. May your Mabon be memorable, and your hearts and spirits be filled to overflowing!

Deities: Goddesses – Modron, Morgan, Epona, Persephone, Pamona and the Muses. Gods – Mabon, Thoth, Thor, Hermes, and The Green Man

The Introduction Of Shadowscape Tarot

From Tarotx.net – Shadowscape Tarot

I. Shadowscapes Tarot overview

Shadowscapes Tarot deck from the author Stephanie Pui-Mun Law deserves a masterpiece in a diverse Tarot world. The deck currently stands Top 10 of All Time by Aeclectic community site. In response to many fans’ expectations, Llewellyn Publications released a version of Shadowscapes with a large companion book. Some people will consider this Tarot deck graceful, beautiful and mysterious in a miraculous fairy scene. And so they are not interested in it. But others – fans of the fantasy genre – enjoy it anyway.

This deck is fundamentally composed based on the traditional Rider-Waite-Smith version that blends with the iconic system of fantasy wonderland and cultures around the world. Each of Shadowscapes cards is a delicate watercolor painting. The style of drawing with rich and luxurious details and the wonderful movement of watercolor will make their owners charmed.

The cards in Shadowscapes Tarot are delicate watercolor paintings – a work of art – and can be seen in its elegant details and rhythmic movements. The reader will be hypnotized by the same beauty. When the reader starts to get used to it, they seem to be lost because of that beauty and can understand the messages of each card. However, when you become familiar with it, you will no longer be afraid of that mystic beauty, so this problem will quickly fade with time and experience.

Furthermore, it seems that this deck works well with people who have a type of reading based on questions like “what do you see going on when you look at the card?” And the answer becomes part of the experience. But even if the drawing makes you distracted and cannot read it in a classic way, there are other ways to get used to it. For example, these images easily make people think it is particularly effective in opening a world of imagination.

Although Shadowscapes Tarot basically follows the classic Rider-Waite-Smith style, it is not a copy of RWS. Law has deciphered the traditional images of the card, pondered their meaning and reinterpreted it with her new look. With many cards, she used a unique perspective, and it is obviously her style. Therefore, for less experienced readers (especially those who depend on RWS template), this is not an easy deck. It requires deliberate thinking and time to get used to the cards. However, the time you spend will bring you to separate cards, you will find new paths. In other words, this is a worthwhile journey.

In fact, every time we look at the cards, we can gain more experience and our own understanding of them. One of these detailed origins is the very popular and subtle appearance of nymphs, dryads, and fairy in every scene on the cards. However, you will often have to look very closely to see them, and you will have to think about what they are doing to be able to understand the messages that these characters convey. For example, there is a fairy who is looking at a skull in the Wheel of Fortune (the skull is a traditional illustration of death in our perception) but you may easily ignore this character because the Wheel behind is too gorgeous to hide her.
