Shower Your Cares Away

Shower Your Cares Away

by Sylvana SilverWitch

Much more than earth, fire or air,  the healing aspects of water are easy  for me to identify with, maybe partly  because I am a double water sign —  Pisces sun with Cancer rising. I seem  to think about water most of the time.  It seems I am either washing myself,  my hands or face, or drinking or sitting in it. I am very much attuned to  the properties of water, and I find that  if I stray very far away from a large  body of water, I am unhappy and I just  don’t feel right.

Even if you don’t have signs in  water, as a human being you’re naturally attuned to water, because the  great majority of your body is made  of it. In a way, water is the easiest element for us to connect with, because  we can easily submerge ourselves in  it, unlike in fire or earth. When we do  immerse ourselves in water, we’re usually conscious of doing so, unlike our  experience of immersing in air.

Following is a quick cleansing  meditation that makes use of this natural connection to water and that is  designed to be used in the shower.

If you are one of those people who  can’t seem to find the time to meditate, or if you ever need a psychic  cleanup in a hurry, this meditation  might be perfect for you. It takes only  a very few minutes once you get the  process memorized. It really works  and can be very helpful, and it is easy  to do every day as a part of your normal routine, since most of us shower  or bathe every day (or at least I hope  we do). I do it every day, all the time —  no matter where I am.

This meditation involves cleansing and running energy through your  body while in the process of cleansing your body by taking a shower. I  make use of the actual physicality of  washing in the shower and the motion  of the water as a focus for the cleansing and healing meditation.

The first few times, try it when you  are not too rushed, so you have time  to get a feel for how it works for you.

First, get into the shower and do  what ever you need to do that may  take some attention to detail, such as  washing your hair or shaving. Then do  your usual grounding and centering.  Next, visualize yourself standing in the  middle of a wonderful, warm, healing  waterfall, golden sun radiant on you,  mist glistening up brilliant rainbows  and water gently cascading down  around and over you. Visualize the  water delicately caressing every part  of your body with cleansing, nurturing  energy.

Smell the warmth of the water as  it runs in rivulets over your body. Imagine you are in a tropical paradise, a  magickal place that you have come for  healing your body and spirit. Hear the  sounds of the water rushing over you.

Contemplate your day and week  and anything seemingly important that  has happened during them. Feel  throughout your body and notice if  there are any places that your energy  feels “stuck” or heavy. Think about  your physical body and how it has been  feeling. Search with your awareness  your whole body: your bones, muscles,  nerves, skin and organs. Notice any  place that seems to need attention.  Use your perception to observe anything that seems out of place or wrong  to you.

I also like to take this time to look  and feel for energy “cords” connecting me to other people. Cords are  energetic connections to people and  energies that I am not responsible for  and don’t need to carry around. They  look like literal cords, or sometimes  more like cables, between us and  those we come into contact with, especially loved ones, friends, co-workers and yes, even enemies!

When you get a sense of what energies you might want to disperse, then  work on dispersing them by beginning  to propel the energy around and  through you. Dissipate it by gathering  it and sending it washing down your  body with the water into the drain.  Imagine or picture it being cleansed  from you — your energy body then  transparent, shining pure and clear.

Think about being cleansed of all  of the anger, resentment and negativity that has been thrown at you or that  you have picked up from other people  or situations and that you have carried around. These energies can cause  disease and stress. Anger, resentment  and negativity all may harm you if you  don’t dissipate and neutralize them  from time to time.

Understand that by cleaning your  body and using your sponge and soap  and at the same time imagining “cleaning” your body and energy, that you  “scrub” yourself clean, both body and  aura. Then ground out the energy with  the water.

After you have finished cleansing,  see the water flowing completely  through you — healing and nurturing  all the parts of yourself, body, soul,  mind, heart and spirit.

I have found that if I miss my  “shower meditation,” I do not feel  grounded and I have trouble concentrating and focusing on the matters  at hand. I sometimes have physical  symptoms and just don’t feel good if  I miss my water meditation. Try it, see  how it works for you and adapt it if  you need to.

Healing the Base Chakra: The Benefits

Healing Benefits

Balancing the base chakra stimulates the flow of energy through the body’s whole energy system, which can have a beneficial effect on many chronic conditions throughout the body. It also helps to build up energy that is stored in the sacral chakra for when it is needed. By removing anxiety and stress, this healthy flow of energy allows positive changes to occur in your life. It facilitates the release of unwanted and unneeded emotions and thoughts that can block your path and prevent you from following your destiny.

Healing The Base Chakra

Healing the Base Chakra

The base chakra, also known as the first chakra, is located at the base of the spine. It is the survival center, supporting strength, determination, and the things that nurture us such as our family and friends. In certain traditions, such as Ayurveda and hatha yoga, it is regarded as the place where the resting kundalini is stored. It is the center through which we experience our connection to the earth and earth plane, while we are living this life. A healthy base chakra will keep you grounded and help you move forward in life.

Location:  Base of the Spine

Crystal:  Red Jasper

Color:  Red

Fragrance Association:  Patchouli

Keywords:  Survival, health abundance, connection to the earth, change, strength, family, security, nurture, assertiveness, determination, passion, practical matters, tradition, endings and new beginnings.

Emotional/Mental Healing:  An unbalanced base chakra can prevent you from advancing in life. When it’s blocked, nothing seems to happen. The lack of balance prevents the release of grief and other restricting emotions that hold you back. Everyone needs time to grieve, but this should always be a process of release rather than something to hold on to. Death is about change–not just for the person who dies but also for the relatives and friends they leave behind. All change brings opportunity and a fresh start. Without releasing grief and holding onto feelings such as sorrow and guilt, any new projects you start may never quite work or come to fruition. This prevents abundance–not only material but abundance on a deep soul level, of sensitive feelings and happy emotions. You feel unfulfilled. Slowly this has an emotional effect. You start to feel as if nothing is working or worthwhile and no one is on your side. You become stressed, a myriad of apparently unrelated physical symptoms begin to appear, and low-level depression sets in. You can feel as if you have lost a connection but to what you often are not sure. The dysfunction of your base chakra prevents you from appreciating the nurturing things in life. You can feel distanced from family and friends and unsettled. As you start to feel alone, insecurity can set in, leading to anxiety and panic attacks. In extreme circumstance, addictions, phobias, and obsessions can develop.

Physical Healing:  When the base chakra is out of balance, common symptoms appear, such as chronic lower-back pain, varicose veins, sciatica, water retention, rectal and anal problems, constipation, diarrhea, some fertility issues such as impotence and immune disorder. The base chakra also affects the health of the groin, hips, pelvis, lower end of the digestive system, legs, knees, ankles and feet.

Spiritual Healing:  The base chakra connects you to the earth. In one sense this is rational, mental grounding, as in your link to the planet; keeping your feet on the ground than your head in the sky. In another way, it’s bringing all your spiritual knowledge and experience into your everyday life, living in the present moment and experiencing every second of your existence. Part of this process can involve development workshops and classes, but many people go to these have enlightening experience and then simply go back to their everyday lives, maybe tell their friends about the weekend and nothing. A healthy base chakra enables you to take the experiences and skills you have acquired and use them in your everyday life. This brings positive change in small manageable doses, leading to happiness.

Lifestyle:  A balanced base chakra can help you move forward in life, change career, accept opportunities and run with the ball when it falls in your hands. It promotes a healthy sense of security and confidence, allowing you to give and receive nurture, stand up for yourself when you need to, take advantage of all that life offers and succeed in whatever you do.

Today’s Meaning:

This aspect of your life will be strongly influenced by a person who is emotional, loving, intuitive, imaginative, shrewd, cautious, protective and sympathetic. This could be an elder you look up too.

General Description:

Fourth sign of the Zodiac, June 22nd to July 23rd. Ruled by the Moon; correct metal, Silver. Those born under Cancer’s influence were supposed to be keen observers, imaginative, strong willed, reliant, tenacious, impressionable, brilliant, reserved, exacting, and sometimes over anxious. The Cancer stones are the emerald, agate, and chalcedony. The emerald was most highly esteemed in ancient times, was believed to possess great healing powers, and to be beneficial to the eyes. Emerald talismans were worn to invoke eloquence, courage, protection from sickness, and by seamen to guard them from perils at sea. Emeralds were supposed to turn pale at the approach of danger.

The Daily Motivator for December 6th – A Clear Current

A Clear Current

Maintaining the Flow

by Madisyn Taylor

Life energy flows through us like a swift stream when there is nothing to obstruct it.

The essence of all being is energy. Our physical and ethereal selves depend on the unrestricted flow of life energy that is the source of wholeness and wellness. Though the channels through which this energy flows are open systems and influenced by factors outside of our control, we ultimately choose what impact these will have in our lives. It is up to us to identify and clear blockages in the energy field to ensure that flow is maintained. A healthy, grounded individual absorbs some portion of the energy emitted by other people and the environment, but this does not interrupt the continuous stream of balanced energy sustaining them. The same individual copes constructively with stress and upset, and they are not subject to the stagnation that frequently goes hand in hand with negativity. When we keep the energy in and around our bodies flowing harmoniously, we are naturally healthy, vibrant, and peaceful.

Life energy flows through us like a swift stream when there is nothing to obstruct it, but various forces such as trauma, downbeat vibrations, and disappointments act like stones that impede the current. If we allow these to pile up, our life energy is thrown off its course or blocked entirely, causing illness, restlessness, and a lack of vigor. If, however, we take the time to clear these forces away, we rob them of the power to impact our lives. When we cultivate simple yet affirmative habits such as taking regular cleansing baths, practicing meditation and breathing exercises, smudging, and self-shielding, we protect ourselves from outside influences that might otherwise impede our energy flow. Likewise, we lessen the impact of inner influences when we clear our auras of unwanted attachments and divest ourselves of blocked emotions.

A strong and fluid energy field is the key that unlocks the doors of self-healing and peace of mind. Your awareness of the flow of energy sustaining you empowers you to take charge of your own well-being by taking steps to unblock, correct, and enhance that flow. Fear will likely be the culprit when you cannot identify the source of stagnation—you may simply be afraid to let go of what is obstructing the flow. Letting go can be challenging, but the exuberance you will feel when the flow is restored will be a welcome and blessed reward.

A Healing Method

A Healing Method

Concentrate on the area in need of healing. Close your eyes, concentrating
and repeat the following or a variation there of;

“Great God Apollo, God of Medicine and Healing,
Hear this servant’s prayer. Heal me oh God of medicine. Touch me and pull
the sickness out.
Make me well with your cleansing touch. Heal me.
Make me well.”

Repeat as many times as you want. Concentrate on Apollo actually touching
and taking out the sickness. Don’t forget to thank him and maybe leave a
small offering.

THE CRAFT AND THE HEALING ARTS

THE CRAFT AND THE HEALING ARTS

Pagans/witches have a wide variety of healing techniques in their
arsenal.  The healing arts encompass the magical and medicinal herbalisms,
shamanistic practices (roughly speaking, using the powers of a spirit
guide), the raising of energy directed towards the patient (cone of power,
creative visualization, etc.), “direct” intercession with the gods, and
standard medical practices (Western medicine, Oriental medicine.)
An effective healing may be any combination of the above, depending on
circumstances.
Several rules of ethics govern the use of the healing arts.  These
follow, along with a few suggestions that may prove useful to the
practicioners of the healing arts:

*If a circumstance calls for standard Western medicine, do not ignore
this in favor of other methods of healing.  Any “witch” who tells you that
his/her treatment is only valid if one stops taking prescribed medicine, or
forgoes recommended surgery should be reported to the local Better Business
Bureau, post haste.  Either they do not realize that the magical methods can
complement “modern” methods, or they are (more likely) con artists.  Stop
them before they hurt someone else, in some cases, fatally.  There is a case
in New Jersey of someone who halted her insulin treatments by the order of a
“witch”, as proof that she had “faith” in that “witch’s” treatment.  Those
pagans who are M.D.’s see no substitution for standard medical practices.
Rather, other workings may be seen as supplementations.  This cannot be
stressed enough.

*Avoid charging for healings.  Certainly, reimbursement for equipment
used is valid, but charging for healings is both unethical and can get one
in trouble with the law, for practicing medicine without a license.  Now,
there is much debate within the Pagan community over charging for magical
services of whatever kind; but it seems to me to be a cheapening of the gift
to charge for it.

*Never heal someone without their consent.  Reasons a person may not
give his/her consent are varied, and must be considered.  Respect the wishes
of others.  One may, however, heal those for whom there is no way to ask
consent — if someone is in a coma, it is permissible to work a direct
healing upon that person.  I find that, for people I cannot mention Craft
healing work to, for one reason or another, that sending healing energy to
the VICINITY of that person is ethical.  The person is then free, on a lower
or subconscious level, to take in that energy (in whatever form they can use
it) or to reject it.  The energy is simply made available for their use,
interpretable by their psyches, and usable according to their own Will.  To
force healing upon someone, whatever your intent, interferes with the other
person’s freedom of choice, unethical in itself, and will have unfavorable
repercussions both for you and for that other person.  You might, for
instance, become the sort of person who Presumes to know what is Good For
Everyone Else, and you might have a good future as a book-burner (at least
in spirit).

*Some people seem to have more of a knack with the non-standard healing
arts than others.  Those people who are the best healers are not necessarily
in the best graces with their god/goddess.  Just because a person can heal
does not imply that their theo/a/logy is the best.  Much of non-traditional
haling may tap into some of the same wellsprings, but healing in and of
itself does not guarantee religious correctness.  Some healers, indeed, are
only marginally religious.  (Obviously, the same applies to MD’s.)

*A healer using herbs has the responsibility of knowing about the herbs
he or she uses.  There are many contradictory statements in the literature,
and there are some herbs that should not be taken in large concentrations;
and there are some herbs that should not be taken by pregnant women or
nursing mothers.  A herbalist should learn the literature, and learn to
distrust literature that does not list contraindications.  Some herbs
recommended in the literature are, frankly, mere superstitions.  Others have
indeed proved effective, and some of these have even passed on to Western
medical practice (digitalis, for instance).

*Those using creative visualization are advised to visualize the
patient as being healthy and happy.  Avoid, while doing the working,
visualizing the patient in his current sick or unhealthy state.  Sometimes
it helps to imagine the patient doing something he or she enjoys doing.

*In creative visualization/cone of power methods the patient may be
present, or may be absent.  It helps, if the patient is present, to touch
the patient directly and gently.

*Those using shamanistic techniques should be well-grounded in such
techniques.  They should have gone on various shamanistic journeys
themselves, and have overcome obstacles on such journeys.  This is in order
that one might be confident and capable during the ordeal of shamanistic
healing.

*After doing energy raising and/or shamanistic techniques of healing,
be very certain to “ground out”.  Shamanism has some of its own techniques,
but after Craft-style healings one method is to lay one’s hands forcibly on
the ground (or floor), exhaling deeply, feeling the excess power returning
to the Earth.

*As a healer, remember that a person’s sickness is not some sort of
supernatural punishment for something he has or has not done.  It is not
your position as healer to cast that sort of judgement.  There are some who
would disagree with me on this, but these are the same sorts who would
reckon AIDS to be a karmic punishment, or who would reckon the starvation in
Ethiopia to be another sort of karmic punishment.

*Know your level of competence.  If you are asked to do a healing, and
you are competent, and the person is sensible about seeking standard medical
help if appropriate; and/or if standard medical help is not helping, it is
in your position to render such aid as you are competent to render.

*No matter how you do whatever it is that you do concerning healing, a
proper “bedside manner” must be more than cultivated; it must be believed.

*Western culture is beginning to realize that standard medicine cannot
solve all illnesses.  Hence, the advent of hospices.  Non-standard healing
practices are (or should be) well-grounded in the notion that not every
ailment, disease, or illness can be cured.  It is a heavy responsibility
upon the healer to deal with this realization.  The pagan religions see
birth, life, and death as an acceptable and natural cycle.  At some time, a
pagan healer will likely come face to face with the notion of mortality;
with the notion that there are patients, despite all skill and caring, that
cannot be cured.  Depending upon the ailment, the healer must know how to
react.  This is true, of course, for even standard MD practice.  At a
certain point, the wholistic/pagan healer must accept the inevitability of
failure; possibly even the inevitability of death.  At such point, whatever
techniques the healer knows for bestowing a sense of tranquility to the
patient are appropriate.  Healing energy may be sent; sent to comfort and
confer the peace of mind essential for a good transition between life and
death.  It is also beneficial if people close to the patient relate to the
patient on a day-to-day basis of support and encouragement, allowing that
person to express whatever he or she needs to express.  Similar energy and
support, sent to a person to help them deal with a permanent but non-fatal
disability, is also appropriate.  Patients require confidence and strength
in such situations, and these may be reinforced in a number of ways, both
magical and day-to-day.

*Remember, take a lot of healing practices with a grain of salt.
Filipino spirit surgery I’d take with a whole bushel.

*One should also be aware of the values of preventative medicine.

Daily Devotions

Daily Devotions

The most common times to perform sacred devotions are:

Upon rising
Noon
Sunset
Before sleep
Before meals
Before a magickal working
Before a ritual
OR simply, when you feel the time is right

Although for many people it is not possible to spend hours a day on daily devotions, on the other hand they are not a quick kneel, blab a quick verse and then race off. Brief they may be but must include enough time for you to ground, centre, perform the devotion, ground and centre again.

These are some suggestions for grounding yourself:

A. Place palms of hands flat down on the floor or ground and visualize the energy flowing into the earth.
B. Imagine the energy draining from your body, through your feet and into the earth.
C. Send the excess energy into the Universe for peace, or healing, or to form a reservoir of positive energy for the Good of All.
D. Send the excess energy into your tools or into your altar.
E. Hold a piece of hematite in your hand.
F. Run cold water over your hands.
G. Eat or drink something.

Remember, a devotion should always raise your energy level and leave you feeling refreshed.

Mechanics of Spellcasting

Mechanics of Spellcasting

Spellcasting is the lesser, not the greater magic; but the greater
magic builds on the lesser. The paradox is that in spellcasting we
may start out working with the personal self, but in order to work
the magic we are forced to expand and recognize the Self that moves
through all beings.
Magic involves the deliberate self-identification with other objects
and people. For example, to do a healing, we must become the healer,
the one who is healed, and the energy that is to do the healing. To
attract love, we must be able to love ourselves and to become love
its self.
Spells work in two basic ways. The first is through suggestion;
symbols and images implant certain ideas in Younger Self, or the
subconscious mind, and we are then influenced to actualize those
ideas. Spells can also influence the external world.
The theoretical model that witches use to explain the workings of
magic is a clear one and coincides in many ways with the “new”
physics. It is simply an elaborate but extremely useful metaphor. The
metaphor is based on a world view that sees things not as fixed
objects, but as vortexes of energy. The physical world is formed by
the vortexes of energy, and if we cause a change in the energy
patterns they, in turn, cause a change in the physical world. When
our own energy is concentrated and channeled, it can move the broader
energy currents. The images and objects used in spells are the
channels. They are the vessels through which our power is poured, and
by which it is shaped.
As energy is directed into the images we visualize, it gradually
manifests physical form and takes shape in the material world.
Directing energy is not a matter of simply emoting. Emotion can be
likened to a strobe light which provides a very inconstant light,
while directed energy is more like a laser beam. Even concentrated
power is a small stream compared with the vast surges of energy that
surround us. The most adept witch cannot be successful in all her
spells, for the opposing currents are often too strong.
The craft teaches to first identify the flow of energy and then to
decide whether or not it is going where we want it to go. If it is
not, then we can try to deflect it, or we may have to change our own
course. Sensing the energy climate is a matter of intuition and
experience. Some witches make a study of Astrology in an effort to
plan their magical workings at the optimal times, while others prefer
to work when they feel the time is right.
Of all the planets, the Moon’s influence on subtle energies is the
strongest. Subtle power increases as the Moon waxes, so the time of
the waxing Moon is best for spells involving growth or increase, such
as money spells. The power peaks when the Moon is full and that is
the best time for workings of culmination and love. During the waning
Moon, power subsides and turns inward. The waning Moon’s period is
used for banishings, bindings, and discovering hidden secrets. The
practical witch soon learns to adjust her spells to fit the time of
the Moon. If, for example, she needs to do a money spell during the
waning Moon, she would put a little ‘English’ on it and make it a
poverty banishing spell.
Energy pursues the path of least resistance. Material results are
more easily achieved on this plane of existence through physical
actions than through magical workings. For example, it is simpler to
lock your door than suffer the constant drain from maintaining
psychic seals on your doors and windows while you are away from home.
Of course, once you have locked your door, you might feel more
reassured by placing seals on it.
No magic spell is going to bring results unless channels are opened
into the material world. For example, a job spell is useless if you
are not willing to go out and interview for jobs or at least let
potential employers know that you are in the market for one. In the
same vein, a healing spell is no substitute for medical care.
Most medicine today can be broken down into two broad categories,
emergency medicine and that which is not needed for immediate life-
threatening situations. Emergency medicine has excelled at
stabilizing the body’s condition so that it can repair itself at its
own pace. Most other forms of medicine consist of treatment through
surgery or chemotherapy or a combination of both. The procedures
noted above work on the physical body and do not take the other
levels into consideration. Psychic healing works at healing the
higher levels of the person so that the physical heals itself or
allows the person to let go of their physical body if it cannot be
repaired. In either case, the choice rests with the person who is
being healed and not the healer.
Visualization used in creating a spell should focus on the desired
result, not the individual steps leading up to the result. We give
the spell free rein in how it goes about achieving the results with
the understanding that it is not to bring harm to anyone or any
being. For this reason, spells have a habit of working in very
unexpected ways.
To assure that the power we have unleashed does not inadvertently
cause harm, we bind the spell. This serves to ‘set’ the form we have
created so that the energy becomes fixed in the pattern we desire.
The energy we project to others affects us even more strongly than
the other person. This is because we have generated the energy, and
thus we have become the object at which the energy is directed. If
healing energy is sent out, then the health of the person casting the
spell is enhanced. By the same token, any hex or curse that is sent
out ALWAYS affects the person who sends it no matter whether it
affected the person it was sent at or not.

Unblocking Chakras

UNBLOCKING CHAKRAS

It is vital to the energetic health of the patient that the upward flow of energy through the chakra system, and the flow of energy into and through each chakra, be maintained. If you have sensed that a chakra is blocked-that the energy stops its normal flow at that chakra-it is possible to restore the healthy upward energy flow.

Unblocking of chakras is done during the normal round of hand positions-with the hands on the chakra in the same position, and at the same time, as regular hand placement. When you have detected a blocked chakra at a certain location, clear it in the following way:

As you lay the hands on that chakra point during the normal course of treatment, visualize the appropriate symbol (see the diagram) in the proper way during the full time you treat that chakra, and at the same time visualize, intend and sense that a blockage in the upward flow of energy is being removed-visualize the energy that is flowing upwards through the spine, at that chakra point, flowing through the chakra, the blockage in the chakra being removed as it does so. You may find it easier to visualize the symbol and the chakra clearing with your eyes closed, as you learn. With a little practice will be able to visualize in the proper manner with your eyes open, as you practice this technique, and this is to be desired.

The symbols are each related to a certain manner of energy flow, and this energetic nature of the symbols relates to the chakras in this way. The 1st, 2nd and 3rd chakras, for example, bear a relationship to the Circle in their energetic functioning. The 4th, 5th and 6th chakras bear a relationship to the energetic nature of the Trine. The 7th chakra bears a close energetic relationship to the Star. Accessing the energetic nature of these symbols (and hence that of the corresponding chakra) through visualization, combined with the visualization of the chakra clearing, provides the effectiveness of this technique-the energy flow through the chakra is cleared, and the blockage is removed.

If you have perceived that a blockage of the first chakra exists, it must be treated in a slightly different way, as placing the hands on the corresponding body area (the genital region) is not done. The hands of any person, however, are receptive channels for the body energy, and the patient’s hands may be used to treat this chakra.

To clear the first chakra:

Place your hands on the patient’s hands, with each of your palms on a palm of your patient. As you send in the energy, visualize the Circle, and visualize-intend and sense-that the first chakra is being cleared. This will not be as focused a clearing as would be provided with direct hand placement, but will assist considerably.

As the diagram implies, the symbols are also associated with regions of the body as well. The Circle is associated with the abdomen below the diaphragm, the Trine with the area above the diaphragm up to the third eye, and the Star with the crown of the head. Visualization on the appropriate symbol during the laying-on-of-hands on supplementary areas may also be done. For example, when treating problems in the lower abdomen, you may, if you have sensed that it is appropriate, use a visualization of the Circle while placing the hands in supplementary positions after the usual chakra positions. Use of the symbols during treatment of positions other than blocked chakras will not be required on most patients, however, but if you sense it will benefit a particular condition you encounter, use it. It may interest you to know, also, that while one symbol predominates in each of these areas, elements of the others are also present.

Symbolizes and controls the forces of cleansing, healing, slow consistent change (as opposed to Fire’s fast change) and inner mental    processes such as the unconscious mind processes (as opposed to Air’s conscious mind processes). The element of Water is often represented by the color    blue, but again this is only a suggestion. Use whatever color suits your impression of this energy. Divination, Dream and Healing Magick are all especially    successful when performed under the supervision and assistance of Water Elementals or Undines ruled by the spirit of the West Wind,     Raphael.

Grounding your Energy Field

Grounding your Energy Field

Grounding is the foundation of a healthy system and everyone can benefit from it. All healers must be very aware of their grounded state, as to heal  effectively and in a sustainable way requires the flow of healing energy through a well-balanced energy system.
By grounding we mean the connection of the human energy field to that of the Earth. This connection allows you to draw from the abundant source of  Earth’s energy while at the same time ensuring that you do not accumulate excess energy- this can be thought of like the earth wire for electricity-   excess energy is safely dissipated into the ground. Being well grounded helps you deal with life in a secure and rational manner.
You can become aware of your grounded state. Often the connection takes the form of a slight buzzing, warmth or tingling under the sole of each foot. It is  useful to train yourself in this awareness. When you have practiced grounding regularly you should find that you can ground yourself simply by thinking of  grounding, or turning your attention to the soles of your feet. It is the work of seconds and can make a huge difference to your life.
Many people go through their lives being ungrounded. If you know people who seem to be off in a dream world, or `dizzy’, chances are their grounding is  poor. Similarly people who have a tendency to be nervy, fly off the handle or get things out of proportion. Outbursts of anger are a less pleasant way that  the body can discharge built up energy. Lack of grounding is also a feature of many conditions that leave people weak and listless.
Some methods of grounding are passive- in other words the person being grounded doesn’t consciously have to do anything. Crystals can be used in this  way. I tend to recommend that they are placed between the feet whilst someone watches TV or sits working, however they can also be carried in pouches or worn  as jewellery. The best stones to use are generally dark or earthy in colour. Most popular choices are hematite, dark obsidians and tiger’s eye. Black  tourmaline is a favourite grounding stone as it is also very protective against negative energies.
Some activities are naturally very grounding. Keen gardeners usually have a good Earth connection. Walking around barefoot is helpful, especially outdoors.  Other passive methods include having something to eat or drink, or doing some exercise.
During a healing I ensure that clients remain grounded by placing grounding stones at the point of the Earth Star, which is below the feet. Strong grounding  can help to `fix’ the adjustments made in the energy field during     a treatment. Some practitioners recommend leaving a client ungrounded when receiving treatment. I do not, as this can leave the client vulnerable and  disorientated.
A grounding visualisation can be helpful. Use the image of roots growing out from the sole of each foot deep down into the Earth and then drawing up Earth  energy. I like to draw the energy right up through my feet & legs, up through my torso until it reaches my heart centre.
Try to become more aware of your grounded state and take daily steps towards strengthening this connection. You will most likely notice a real difference to  your health and vitality if you do.
