Ear

(This is the last rune from this set)

Sound: “ea” as in “dear”
Stands for: Soil of Earth (actually the dust our bodies become after death)
Casting meaning: Ear symbolizes the grave that we will all return to. However the only way that we can die is because there was life to begin with. “Without life, there is no death and without time there is no life.” More generally Ear signifies the unavoidable end of all things.

Ruis

Tree: Elder (Sambucus spp.)

Letter: R

Shame isn’t all bad and does not deserve a uniformly awful reputation. Without shame and the fear of being shamed, every human child would be demonically bratty. Shame is a limit that informs us to keep our own ego in check. It is often about considering others. Having shame about one’s own past behavior is motivation to avoid shameful behaviors such as cheating and stealing.

Shame is an emotion that demands confrontation. All too often, people run away from what shames them, attempt to excuse themselves from wrongful or immoral behavior because they’re too cowardly to face what they have done or to admit their responsibility in causing their own misfortunes or the misfortune of others. Ruis indicates a willingness to face one’s own shame and to do with shame what it was meant for, and that is to use shame of the past to build oneself into a better person for the present and future. Ashamed of something you did? How can you make yourself into the type of person who would never even think of doing something like that? Overcome being the type of person who would engage in the shameful behavior and you become the master of it; you won’t have the remotest chance of repeating such a mistake. Did you become embarrassed because you did something you now understand to be greedy? Then learn to balance thriftiness with generosity. Adjust to the circumstance rather than overreacting to it. Are you ashamed about cheating on a boyfriend/girlfriend or spouse? Become a person who would never cheat on your boyfriend/girlfriend or spouse regardless of conditions, which could mean an assortment of outcomes: sticking to a resolution of no cheating and staying together, admitting one’s sexual preferences and going with the flow, changing the person you are with, or being single for a long time.

Because humans tend to remember negative experiences more easily than positive ones, it’s important when you draw Ruis to acknowledge the things you are not ashamed of about yourself. For every bad or shameful thing you’ve done, remember there are a thousand shameful things you avoided. Maybe it is time to appreciate the places you could have gone horribly wrong and did not.

In this situation, the Superior Person should not take the initiative; he should follow the initiative of another.
He should seek receptive allies in the southwest; he should break ties with immovable allies in the northeast.

Responsive devotion.
Receptive influence.
Sublime Success if you keep to your course.

SITUATION ANALYSIS:

This is a time for dealing with reality as it is, not as you would have it be.
If you realize that in this situation you are the receptor, not the transmitter of the stimulus, you will find yourself reaching goals that seemed unattainable under your own steam.
If you persist in futile efforts to be the Shaper rather than the Shaped, you will completely miss this unique opportunity.

From The Tarot Lady

The Hermit

Keywords: inner wisdom, solitude, withdrawal, quiet, teacher or guru, research, seeker

Attributes: Virgo (Earth)

General meaning:  In order to get the answers you seek, it may be time to turn inward.  Shut out your distractions so that you may discover the wisdom within.  Answers are rarely found in another – everything you need is within yourself.  This card can also indicate a need to withdraw from circumstances in order to get a better perspective.  Sometimes a player needs a break from the grind.

Reversed:  Repeating your past mistakes.  Not learning.  This can indicate a lack of wisdom. Doing things without thinking of the consequences.  It can also indicate the extremes of solitude – like being some sort of creepy recluse.  Don’t lock yourself away.  It gets mighty lonely on that mountain top.

Affirmation: “Everything I need is within me.  I don’t need to look outside myself for answers.”

Duir or Dair

Pronunciation – Doo-r

Tree Association – oak

Meaning – Strength, security, resilience, endurance, wisdom, sacred spaces, leadership, and kindness. All your hard work and education have paid off. Like the oak, you stand tall and mighty. You are in a beneficial situation (family, work, financially, creative, relationship, etc.), and this circumstance will stay that way for quite a while. Trust yourself! Also, oak represents the intense energy and power of storms and wind. Symbolic of the endurance and stamina you possess that allows you to flourish and thrive.

If reversed – cowardly, uncertain, or frail. You have not been acting kindly or fairly in your leadership role. It’s ok to lack knowledge and facts, but do not make it a common practice.

Inscription and Magical Uses – Inscribe this ogham on an acorn for good luck in job interviews, courage, or pursuing justice. Duir is an excellent ogham inscription to keep at work. Helpful when working when storms, lightning, or the element air. It can also be used in healing or for those who need reminders of their resilience, profound strength, and tenacity.

Folklore – Oak trees are considered sacred guardians. They are an excellent place to meditate beneath or seek strength and assurance. If you catch an oak leaf before it touches the ground, you will have excellent health throughout the cold winter months. Representative of the Oak King, who marks the beginning and climax of the Summer Solstice.

The Wheel of Fortune Tarot Card Description

The Wheel of Fortune is one of the most highly symbolic cards in the deck, filled with signs that each have its own meaning. At the center of the card, lies a giant wheel, covered in esoteric symbols. There are different creatures that surround the wheel; the angel, the eagle, the bull and the lion. They are related to four fixed signs in the zodiac – leo, taurus, scorpio and aquarius. These four animals are also representatives for the four evangelists in Christian traditions, which is perhaps the reason that they are all adorned with wings.

The books that each of the creatures hold represents the Torah which communicates wisdom and self-understanding. The snake indicates the act of descending into material world. On the wheel itself, rides a sphinx that sits at the top, and what appears to be either a devil, or Anubis himself arising at the bottom. These two Egyptian figures are representative of both the wisdom of the gods and kings (in the case of the sphinx) and the underworld (Anubis). They are rotating forever, in a cycle, and suggests that as one comes up, the other goes down.

A SECRET GAIN

There is a belief that the Norse runes bring out power the people had present within themselves. They are all connected and can interact continuously. It is not easy to recognize what a person can gain in life from them. It is the mystery that helps people heal their bodies and souls. Some of the mysteries can be found in the form of personal gains, metal surprises that can come out of nowhere, helping people and their souls in the process.

Tinne/Teine

T stands for Tinne, or Teine, the Holly tree. This evergreen plant is connected to immortality, unity, courage, and the stability of hearth and home. Pronounced chihnn-uh by the Celts, the wood of the Holly was often used in the construction of weapons, and is known as a plant of warriors and protectors.

In the pre-Christian British Isles, the Holly was often associated with protection–planting a hedge around your home would keep malevolent spirits out, thanks in no small part to the sharp spikes on the leaves. In Celtic myth, the concept of the Holly King and the Oak King symbolizes the changing of the seasons, and the transition of the earth from the growing time to the dying season.

When Christianity moved into the Celtic lands, the new religion associated the Holly plant with the story of Jesus. The poky spikes on the leaves represent the crown of thorns worn by Jesus on the cross, and the bright red berries symbolize his blood.

Coll

Wisdom, enlightenment, poetry, wholeness

Tree: Hazel (Corylus spp.)

Letter: C

Coll indicates the fruits of the life of the mind. Wisdom is a kind of knowledge quilt, meaning wisdom is many pieces of knowledge sewn together in a beautiful pattern. The wisdom of music is the interplay of a thousand small parts that come together to create a unified expression of sound. The wisdom of history comes from seeing its overarching patterns and how they can predict the future. Wisdom is not just the collection of a bunch of trivia but a deep understanding of how smaller forces become a whole. Plenty of people have knowledge, and they often gain titles for it like “PhD”, yet they have no wisdom. Knowledge can be unstable and in certain instances knowing a vast array of facts and trivia is not useful (it can be the mental equivalent of clutter); wisdom has permanence and transcends time.

Coll means putting the final piece down and solving the puzzle. Good decisions based in deep-rooted experience. Opportunity because of intuitive, adaptable strategy. The ability to live a fuller life because of lessons that originate from experience and the resulting clairvoyance of multiple outcomes.

Drawing Coll represents a bird’s eye view of the situation or era in which you dwell. There is an accumulation of knowledge that has given rise or is in the process to becoming wisdom. Hard work on the mental plane pays off in an easy way with words, the ability to think deeply, or the mastery of a field of study.

PERTH

Initiation, Something Concealed, A Secret Thing

Deep, inner trans formative powers are interacting, but what you are going to get out of them isn’t easy to recognize. An integrity – concealed, disguised, secretly hidden. After all, what is going to heal us and our soul is a deep mystery. On the side of the material world there probably will be surprises; unexpected profits are nothing to be excluded. Nothing less than a renewal your spirit is the risk you take. The old way found its end: You simply cannot repeat the old things any longer without suffering. However, you always have a chance: Either you see all negative as a “misfortune”, or you recognize the entire as a hindrance stretch, an inaugural way that you have to follow at this moment.

Coll

C, sometimes read as K, is Coll, which is the Hazel tree. August is known as the Hazel Moon, because this is when Hazel nuts appear on the trees–the world Coll translates to “the life force inside you”, and what better symbol of life than the nut itself? Hazel is associated with wisdom and creativity and knowledge. Sometimes it is connected in Celtic lore with magical springs, sacred wells, and divination.

Hazel was a handy tree to have around. It was used by many English pilgrims to make staffs for use upon the road–not only was it a sturdy walking stick, it also provided a modicum of self-defense for weary travelers. Certainly, it could have been used as well for ritual. Hazel was used in weaving of baskets by medieval folk, and the leaves were fed to cattle because it was believed this would increase the cow’s supply of milk.

In the Irish myth cycles, there is a tale that nine hazel nuts dropped into a sacred pool. A salmon came along in the pool and gobbled up the nuts, which then imbued him with wisdom. A variation of the story appears in the legend of Finn Mac Cumhail, who ate the salmon and then took on the knowledge and wisdom of the fish. Note that Mac Cumhail is often translated as Mac Coll.

Coll Correspondences

Mundane Aspects: Take advantage of your own artistry or creativity, and share your knowledge with others so they too can practice these arts. Lead by example, and teach those who wish to learn. Find inspiration for your creative gifts, whatever your talent may be.

Magical Aspects: Let the divine guide you in your creative journey. Speak to the gods through your art, and be rewarded with inspiration. If you’re stuck in a creative rut, call upon the Divine to send you a Muse.

Five of Swords Tarot Card Description

The Five of Swords card depicts a young man who has a very convenient look of contempt on his face. He is looking at the enemies that he has managed to conquer. There are five swords that he possesses – which he has taken from the other combatants who are in the card. The two other figures are walking away from him in a slow manner with a sense of loss and sadness. Above them, the sky is tumultuous and cloudy, which indicates that not everything is well, despite the fact that the battle is already over.

 Uillean

Ui (sometimes interpreted as Pe) is Uillean, the Honeysuckle. Associated with the manifestation of will, the Honeysuckle starts as a small seed and creeps along, growing and spreading over time. Honeysuckle twists and spirals up and over its surroundings, its soft yellow flowers releasing a sweet scent. It is the flower of unspoken desire, hidden needs, secret wants, but it also represents our goals of finding our true Self.

From a medicinal standpoint, the honeysuckle can be useful as well. Dioscorides says,

“the ripe seed gathered and dried in theshadow and drunk for four days together, doth waste and consume away the hardness of the spleen and removeth wearisomeness, helpeth the shortness and difficulty of breathing, cureth the hicket (hiccough), etc. A syrup made of the flowers is good to be drunk against diseases of the lungs and spleen.”

Uillean Correspondences

Mundane Aspects: When this symbol appears, it means you need to allow yourself the freedom to pursue your desire. If you’ve got hopes or dreams that are unattained, now is your time to start considering whether they’re remain just dreams, or become reality. Denying yourself the chance to enjoy life is unfair.

Magical Aspects: Take the time to experience joy, but make sure you stay true to your values and beliefs as well. In many Wiccan traditions, the Charge of the Goddess is quoted as a reminder of this: All acts of love and pleasure are my rituals. Another aspect of this symbol is that sometimes, mysteries which seem to be hidden may not be as hard to delve into as you think–sometimes, you’ve just been sidetracked by distractions.

I. The meaning of the Three of Wands Shadowscapes Tarot

This is the bridge that reaches the edge of the world. The lower steps below tempt those who are curious and brave to go there and embark on a dangerous journey. It bent across the sky but then did not go much further. She stood on the borderline and hesitated, and wondered where she was going. The dazzling sunlight overhead made her squint, radiating beneath the shimmering bands of light that stretched along the river, reflecting on the hill in the distance below. Like a crystal with endless energy, slowly rising, it brought with itself the eternal light like all the potential she had, waiting for her from deep within, with every breath, every moment that contains the ability that either discourages or encourages us. Be aware of the hidden potential in all things.

She looked at the wands of the travelers who had first arrived. It could also be that from this position they turn away and leave, just like a threat to what happens to the next ones. She hesitated for a moment, did not look down, and then stepped into the indeterminate place. She felt the strong rocks and clay beneath her feet, then realized the bridge was gradually perfected from the steps and dreams of others. She took a breath and then began to take the first step – just like that, step by step, the bridge accordingly grew below her feet.

Through this, the message that Three of Wands wants to send you is to explore, search for new things, discover and expand to new horizons. Let’s broadcast your vision in all situations and clearly show your leadership.
