Earth, your bounty is showered upon us!
We walk amid your green leaves
And cut down what you give us,
And the harvest begins in earnest.
Bless us with a full pantry
As the Sun begins to wane,
Let us eat his light in the food
You gift to our table.
We now enter the time of year
When we do take more than is given,
Yet even now we will water and feed you,
For this is the dance of giving.

(Two who have been chosen to do the work of the ritual take up the rainwater and the manure tea, and carry them out tot he garden, where they are ceremonially poured around the roots of the herbs and vegetables, and especially into any plots of land where everything has been harvested. All others follow with empty baskets to harvest some thing from the garden, or twine to cut herbs and hang them to dry. After this, each should do some weeding, as weeding is the sacred cultivation work of this season. The weeds should be placed in a compost heap with all due reverence; we take their perfectly legitimate lives that our own plants may grow.)

Pleasing others by supporting their positions is only helpful if we don’t lose our own point of view in the process.

It would be great to report that everything is coming up roses following last night’s New Moon and many cosmic blessings are manifesting around the world. For example, it is definitely helpful that the Moon approaches Mercury in the early hours — giving a lift for reading, writing and research. Once the clock strikes 4:27AM PDT and the lunar orb and Mercury conjunct in the last degree of Virgo, the Moon begins a short void cycle that lasts until 5:56AM PDT when the Moon enters Libran territory. For the next two days, the lunar impetus is to help humans improve the quality of primary partnerships while also singling out the arts as an area for achievement across the board. However, a monkey wrench is tossed into the proceedings as Mars forms an off-kilter, 150-degree link to giant Jupiter (10:25AM PDT). This can be more stressful than it sounds as Jupiter has much to do with societal harmony and being successful while Mars often functions as a trigger for brash acts, volatile behavior and all-around hanky-panky. Two celestial bodies attempt a rescue mission as Juno returns to upbeat, friendly Sagittarius (10:51AM PDT) after a recent, several-month sojourn in stormy Scorpio. Mercury also breaks new ground by shifting out of Virgo and into Libra (4:23PM PDT) — giving an extra boost for illuminating relationship ties. Then Mercury makes a supportive, 60-degree alliance with Juno (5:15PM PDT) — a bridge-building mechanism between Libra and Sagittarius. All of this can create a new wave of goodwill that can neutralize this morning’s Mars-Jupiter downer. If you really are looking for excitement and edge-of-your-seat thrills and chills, then tonight’s Sun-Uranus parallel (9:53PM PDT) may be just what the doctor ordered. From a more enlightening perspective, it is terrific to explore metaphysical and astrological teachings to your heart’s content.
