In Honor Of Cybele, Crystal Divination

As it was the Oracle of Delphi that brought Cybele to Rome, the act of divining the future was associated with her. It seems only fitting to celebrate the power of this Goddess by working with some form of divination on this day. For this magickal activity you will need:

A clear glass bowl filled with Spring water

A quartz crystal

A tapered white candle

Place the crystal in the clear glass bowl and cover it with the spring water. Set the white candle just behind the bowl and light it. With your right index finger, slowly stir the water around the crystal as you chant’

“Blessed spirits of the night,

Bless me now with second sight.”

Focus your attention on the water. It will begin to cloud over with a fine mist. Once the mist begins to flow out of the bowl, stop stirring the water and look directly into the bowl. Center your attention on the crystal and repeat the following:

“Fire and water, crystal clear,

Let the visions now appear.”

Visions of the future will appear. When the visions begin to fade, make a mental note of what you saw. Snuff out the candle and place your crystal under your pillow. The crystal will provide you with more information during your dream time. Later write your visions down in your dream journal of magickal BOS.

Mabon falls around September 21 in the northern hemisphere, and around March 21 below the equator. This is the autumn equinox, it’s a time to celebrate the season of the second harvest. It’s a time of balance, of equal hours of light and dark, and a reminder that the cold weather isn’t far away at all. The Celebration of Michaelmas

In the British Isles, Michaelmas is celebrated on September 29. As the Feast of St. Michael within the Catholic church, this date is often associated with the harvest because of its proximity to the autumn equinox. Nutting Day

Around the middle of September, the nut season starts. Hazelnuts ripen in the hedges, and they have long been connected to folklore and legends. Hazel is associated to the Celtic tree month of Coll, from August 5 to September 1, and the very word Coll means “the life force inside you.” Hazelnuts are connected to wisdom and protection, and are often found near sacred wells and magical springs.

Acorns and the Mighty Oak

The acorn is a symbol of strength and power. In the fall, these tiny yet hardy little nuggets drop from the oak trees to land on the ground. Because the acorn only appears on a fully mature oak, it is often considered a symbol of the patience needed to attain goals over long periods of time. It represents perseverance and hard work. Pomona, the Apple Goddess

Pomona was a Roman goddess who was the keeper of orchards and fruit trees. As the broom corn is ripe now, besom making is traditional and magickal this time of year. Begin the festival with a vineyard or orchard harvest. You might check the farm lands in your area to see if there’s an orchard or pumpkin patch that allows customers to harvest produce for themselves. Traditionally Sabbat festivals begin at sun set on the eve of the Holiday. You can use the daytime hours of this holiday eve to prepare baskets for harvesting the next day. Baking a pumpkin pie (from scratch if possible) is a wonderful way to bring in the fragrance of the holiday season

Goddess Herb – Balm of Gilead

Balm of Gilead has a feminine aspect.  It is closely connected with Saturn and the Spirit.  The buds of Balm of Gilead can be carried in a sachet to help ease a broken heart.  They also lend their energy to protection, healing, inspiration and knowledge as well as lending strength to overcome that broken heart.

Using Balm of Gilead in Magickal workings can help to boost the energies by lending that strength.  Understanding what you will be sending out in the Universe can help to boost your own energies.  This herb is good for protection, so lending others that it will touch on its journey through the Universe can only help you in return, threefold.

God Herb – Ash

Ash, even though it can be referred to as the Goddess Tree, has a masculine aspect.  It is closely connected to the Sun and the element of Fire.  While great for spells of protection, it can be also used to make brooms for purification of sacred spaces as well as great for Wands!  The wands that are made from Ash have a deep healing aspect.

This herb/tree is used in Sea Rituals.  To call to the God of the Seas.  Even though the element that is most closely connect is Water, we all know that opposites attract and Ash can help when working with Water in that Sea Ritual.

Placing the leaves in a sachet beneath a pillow can help to induce psychic dreams.  If you wish to astral walk in dreams, this would be a beneficial herb to use.  (Disclaimer: One Person’s View Point No one should astral alone.  You need another person to act as that anchor to pull you back from the abyss).

If your spell is meant to be buried or thrown into water, make sure that you are using safe, biodegradable materials. Choose candles made from tallow, soy, or beeswax versus paraffin or gel which are petroleum products. Choose natural fibers for any fabric you are using in the spell for poppets or mojo bags or whatever.

This way, when you dispose of these items, they will eventually decompose into the Earth and cause no harm. Sometimes, putting items in the regular garbage is the best option, but there are some spells that benefit from more specialized consideration.

Often a spell will tell you what to do with the components when you are done. If it doesn’t, or if you are writing your own spell, then you can use these guidelines:

For Drawing Spells

If you are casting a spell meant to draw something toward you, your home, or your place of business, bury your spell components nearby, in the yard. They will continue to draw energy as the items biodegrade into the Earth. If you’re trying to draw energy toward someone else, it should be their yard.

Burying your items on the East or South side will utilize the sun’s energy to help grow something. The East is better for things like communication, bringing in new customers, etc. The South is best for things like love and creativity. If your spell is focused on creating a solid foundation or security, I would choose the North.

If your spell is about deepening existing relationships, I might choose West.  You may decide to bury your spell components on the side of the house closest to where the target sleeps.  If there is no outdoor dirt to bury it in, a large potted plant may serve the purpose.

If burying is not an option, tucking your bundle of spell components in the crotch of a tree or hanging it from a branch might be a good option for you. When doing this, I like to make the item look decorative, to reduce the creep-out factor, but if you are cursing someone, the creepier the better.

If you have no yard, you may wish to bundle up your spell components and put them inside a wall or in the back corner of a closet that touches an outside wall or put it under the bed or inside the box spring of the target. In this case, you want to make sure that none of your spell components are easily biodegradable so the package doesn’t start to stink and attract vermin. Use dried herbs rather than fresh and no liquids.

For Sending and Banishing Spells

If your spell is designed to send energy out into the world, you can burn your items (again, choose items that are safe to burn) or send them out into the world by tossing them into moving water, like a river or a storm drain (please make sure they are safe for the local wildlife).

This also works for banishing spells. As does flushing the items down the toilet (assuming they won’t back up your system) or down a drain or putting then in the regular garbage so the garbage truck carry them away and bury them in the landfill.

For binding spells, I like to tuck the bundle under a large rock or paving stone.

For Cleansing Spells

Many cleansing spells involve absorbing negative energy into an item that you then discard. Traditionally, this is done by leaving the item at a crossroads or burying it at the base of a tree. In the case of an egg cleansing, for example, the egg may be smashed at the base of a tree to neutralize the energy or in a crossroads to send it far away.

In the case of cleansing washes, the water used can be sent down the drain while visualizing the negative energy washing away. You can also flush it down the toilet. Make sure any bits of herbs have been strained out and never send oils down the drain.

Depending on your septic situation, you may need to make special considerations with salt and products that may disturb its natural digestive cycles. Floor washes may be sent down the drain or tossed out the door with conviction.

Spell Waste

Waste, like ashes and old herbs should be returned to the Earth. The compost will do this for you just fine. Candle ends made of natural materials will eventually break down if you bury them, but there is no reason not to throw them in the regular garbage and it’s probably safer for wildlife. Paper, glass and most metals can be added to the recycling bin.

Reusing Spell Items

Some non-disposable items can be re-used with a good cleansing. Use your judgment on this. Sometimes it feels too weird to reuse something. If it feels uncomfortable, don’t do it. The advice for candles is generally not to reuse them or to make sure you use them for a similar purpose because of the sheer amount of magical energy they absorb and retain.

Things like jars, crystals, fabric items, and tools can be carefully cleaned in the appropriate mundane manner, and then cleansed using smoke, salt, or whatever means is most appropriate to the item.

A 7 day candle jar and a green 7 day pillar candle

Prosperity Oil

A jar of Money Draw Herbal Blend

A lucky horseshoe

Ancestor Money

A jar of Magnet Attraction Sachet Powder

A roll of charcoal pucks

a Pyrite stone

HOW TO PERFORM:

Begin by cleansing your empty jar with some sage smoke and your candle by running it under cold water for 30 seconds. Take 3 full breaths while holding your candle and visualize money and prosperity flowing effortlessly into your life. Connect with your intention deeply, use all your senses. Breathe your intention onto your candle 3 times and whisper your intention.

To dress your candle first choose a symbol or create a sigil for prosperity. The dollar sign works like a charm. Carve your symbol or sigil and your intention onto your candle. Next run the prosperity oil over top of your candle. Move in a clockwise direction from the top to the bottom to draw prosperity to you. Finally apply the money draw herbal blend to your oiled candle. Once your candle is fully dressed and charged place your candle in a fire safe container on your altar.

Write down that which you want to draw into your life onto your ancestor money. Be specific, ask for a precise amount of money and if it’s to pay bills don’t forget to include when you need it by. Offer the money to your ancestors for their help. Call them by name and make sure to give them an offering they like.

Place your ancestor money under your candle on your altar. Continue by placing the lucky horseshoe around your candle so that it sits in the ring of luck. Don’t forget to charge the horseshoe with your intention. Light your candle stating your intention while doing so.

In a fire proof bowl, on top of a bed of sand or salt, light your charcoal puck. place a scoop of magnet attraction sachet powder onto the lit puck and allow the incense to surround your spell. Inhale it and feel rich from the inside out. After the spell you can also place some of the powder in your wallet and sprinkle it onto your money.

Take your pyrite stone and anoint it in the magnet attraction smoke. For an added bonus anoint it with your prosperity oil. Hold it in your dominant hand and spend 10-30 minutes focusing on your intention. Feel yourself financially rich. When you are ready, safely take your ancestor money and light it from your candle and burn it knowing with certainty that your ancestors will come to your aid.

Take some time to divine any messages your candle flame has to offer. Candle flames can indicate possible blocks or results of your spell depending on the way it is burning.

Allow the candle to burn out then dispose of your spell work. This can be over several days. Carry the pyrite stone on your for and extra boost of prosperity. Lastly, don’t forget to offer your ancestors some of their favourite treats. Tobacco, tea, beer, cookies work depending on their preference.
