Build your altar. Place the Petitioner candle beneath the Goddess candle and place the green and black candles beneath the God candle.

Light the incense. Anoint the black candle with banishing oil and say,
” Empower this candle to absorb all negative forces acting upon me.As this candle burns, let it’s powers engulf all obstacles in my way, leaving my path clear for success.”
Light the black candle. Anoint green candle with good luck oil and say,
“I empower this candle to bring me good luck, prosperity and success in acquiring a new and better job. As this candle burns, so might it be a beacon for good fortune and prosperity.”

Light the green candle. You need not anoint the petitioner candle, but focus strongly on this person (if it is yourself, see yourself in your new job) as you light it, saying,
“As this candle represents {name}, let it be a beacon for positive forces and energies. As this candle burns bright, so does the light of {names}’s heart burn bright with ambition
and desire for a new, better job.”
Concentrate firmly, directing your power to the petitioner candle, which is receiving the energy from the green candle that is burning. After ten minutes or so of concentration,
extinguish the candles in the reverse order in which you lit them. Each day, repeat the spell, moving the green candle two inches closer to the petitioner.

TO THE DRAGONS, REBORN

TO THE DRAGONS, REBORN

They say the flame wrought winds are dead;
Ethereal dancing, jeweled wings – no more.
Monolithic rationality is the head.
Noble dreams and works – shattered, torn.

Their world was theirs – never doubt.
But the magic and power faded away,
When the light gave way to spiritual drought
and Oppenheimer replaced Morganna Le Fay.

But in some strange souls they found a home:
Those inspired, lost, exiled castaways.
Music and verse and The Craft are the bones
Of these long lost archetypes of elder days.

And it takes a mere seed to create an oak,
and music and light, rain and mirth,
bridging land and sky with it’s growth;
fulfilling the call to renew the Earth.

So nurture these dragons who live within you-
The Burning has ended and they may go free.
Let them grow so that their work may continue.
An it harm none, do what ye will

Blessed Be!

Sea Glass as a Magickal Item?

Sea Glass as a Magickal Item?

Author: Jillian

I have collected sea glass (glass that has been smoothed and etched by the water and sand of the ocean) since I was a child. Each piece seems to call to me, and often great finds wash up at my feet, like gifts from the waves. I have never heard of sea glass holding any magic properties, beyond that of making beauty out of garbage, but it seems that sea glass does have something about it that is otherworldly.

It comes in every color of the rainbow, with white being the most common, then greens and browns from liquor bottles, but I have found yellows, oranges, reds, and blues. These rare colors are a prize to collectors, and walking on the beach, hunting for pieces encourages meditative thought. The colors can be symbolic, as they are in ritual candles, but I don’t know if the same holds true for sea glass.

As a searcher walks, they take notice of all that is around them, as they look for glass, they also see the other flotsam that has washed up. Many see trash that has washed up, and gather it to properly dispose of. Many take a step further, to work with others to keep plastic trash out of the sea and shore, ensuring a cleaner home for the Goddess and God here on earth, as well as a cleaner home for man and animals. Searchers see dead sea creatures, damaged by pollution. They see live animals, hope for the future. They see children, men, and women enjoying the sea, just as humans have done since antiquity. The ocean calls to us, grants gifts to us.

Glass is simply silica sand and other minerals molten together into a liquid, then shaped and cooled back into a solid. This in itself can be a symbol of how a person’s common background can be transformed through the “trials and tribulations” of life into something beautiful and precious.

Sea glass has gone through two more steps. It has been discarded and broken, deemed worthless, and left to the elements. Worn by sand, broken down by the natural chemical reactions of ocean water, it loses it’s hard sheen, and sharp edges. It smoothes down, sometimes into intricate shapes, and washes up. It has become a gemstone of sorts, helped by man, but ultimately affected most by the acts of nature that surround it.

Sea glass has lost some of its minerals and silica, from being physically worn away, or from being leached out by chemical reactions with the seawater. So too do we lose some of our “selves”, when we work through our adversities. We lose our jagged edges, our impurities. As minerals return to the sea and earth, so too should we offer our losses of selfish behavior, prejudices, avarice, and sloth.

Is that not how we are shaped? We are a part of mankind, and we are partly shaped by our relations to our fellow people, but so much more so are we shaped by our interactions with our Gods and Goddesses, with our spiritual experiences. Just like silica and minerals, we are a part of the earth, but through our interactions with people, we grow stronger, more solidified, and become more valuable and useful after being shaped and molded. However, we do need the final finishing through our spiritual experiences.

Interactions with our deities smooth our sharp edges; they teach us that we are not all-knowing. If we remain sharp and smooth, all we have is our outward appearance and our knowledge. We have no deeper wisdom, no real learning. Just as the sand and salt water buff and scour discarded glass, we must allow our faith to shape us. We too must be spiritually buffed and scoured, so that we might become people of inner and outer beauty and strength.

I take out broken glass, marbles, and beads to the sea, and as I offer them to the Goddess, I offer myself to her. As each shard falls to the bottom of the kelp beds, far out enough that it will not have an easy journey back to shore, I reflect that my journey will not be easy either, but that I will improve through my struggles, just as broken glass improves from trash into treasure. I choose colors of glass that are rare, so that I can give to the future. I buy glass from charity thrift stores, so that others might benefit. Collectors of all ages may one day find joy and astonishment finding a rare color of sea glass that came from one of my offerings. I pray they do.

What does sea glass hold in terms of magic? I feel as though it must hold some spark of sacredness, to have changed so very much into a new and beautiful form. I have searched for information, but found none that speaks about sea glass. Is this because it is a relatively “new” occurrence? Sea glass only became common after glass could be mass-produced and easily discarded, and trash collected as a public service, not disposed of in communal trash pits.

For myself, I have made charms to hang from dream catchers, and some pieces reside in my witch bottle. My mate has his own lucky piece that I gifted him, made of glass and wire found in the surf, a small green medallion of glass. Green is his lucky color, as he is a full-fledged Taurus. These pieces might hold the power of good intentions concentrated on them, but do they hold more?

Should I just take sea glass pieces as gifts from the Goddess, or do they have significance? Are they signs of becoming more “beautiful” through surviving adversity, or do they hold any real strength? Can they be used in offerings or spells? What deities might there be that would most appreciate these offerings, aside from the Goddess?

I hope that you, dear readers, can answer some of my questions, and offer ideas and suggestions of your own. I am so new here, and new to my beliefs, that I really would appreciate guidance.

Brain Power Spell

Brain Power Spell

For this spell you need a yellow candle, some rosemary oil, and a carving instrument. Carve the word “clarity” lengthwise on one side of the candle, and on the other side carve the word “logic.” Repeat with the words “memory” and “concentration.” Anoint the candle with rosemary oil. Hold the candle to your mouth and whisper:

I set your task
To bring forth what I ask:
Improved memory,
And perfect clarity.
I concentrate longer,
My logic is stronger,
With goodwill to all
And harm to none.
As I speak it
So it is done!

Repeat the chant nine times. Allow the candle to burn out. Save some of the hardened wax drippings for use in sachets.

Lady A’s Spell of the Day for July 20th: To Break The Powers of a Spell

TO BREAK THE POWERS OF A SPELL

Ingredients

You Need: black candle, water and a black bowl

Place the candle into the black bowl, fix the candle to the bowl using the wax
drippings from the candle so that it stands alone.
Fill the bowl to the rim with fresh water, without wetting the wick.
Breathe deeply and meditate for a few minutes.
When your mind is clear, light the candle.
Visualize the power the spell cast against you as living within the candles flame.
As the candle burns down, it will sputter and go out as it touches the water.
As it is extinguished by the water, the spell is broken.
Finally, dig a hole into the ground, pour the water into it, then bury the candle.

A protective home mojo from the Hoodoo Tradition

Mojos are small bags containing an odd number of symbols (one to thirteen) associated with particular energies. Protective mojos are good if you live in a high-crime or  lonely area, or you have a difficult ex-partner who seeks constant access to your home.

Items You Will Need:

A small drawstring bag of red flannel (the traditional mojo fabric) or brown material ( suitable for domestic protection); a piece of angelica root or  some dried angelica (available from herbal stores); some salt and pepper; waxed paper (the kind used in cake making); some patchouli oil or brandy.

Timing.

After dark.

The Spell:

  • Place the angelica root directly into the bag or twist some dried angelica in a piece of waxed paper and put it in.
  • Twist some salt in a piece of waxed paper and add it to the bag.
  • Twist some pepper in a piece of waxed paper and add it to the bag.
  • Add a few drops of the patchouli oil or brandy to the bag.
  • Draw the string tight and say: “May protection last till one (or two) moons are pasted.”
  • Keep the bag somewhere near the front door, out of sight. (Mojos lose their power if seen.)

Basic Melt-and-Pour Making Instruction

In soap making, timing is essential. If you whisk too long, then your soap will begin to get in the measuring cup to the point where you won’t be able to pour it. If this occurs, it must be re-melted before pouring. Re-melting soap with fragrance can destroy the integrity of the aroma. Expect to make a few mistakes when first learning to make your own soaps; however, you will quickly get the feel of this super-simple process! Goat’s milk, coconut and shea butter bases do not have good suspension and require that you whisk your formulas until they thicken but are still warm enough to pour.

Basic Melt-and-Pour Soap-Making Instructions

  • Heat your soap base as indicated by manufacturer. (Be careful not to overheat or you will destroy the integrity of the soap based.)

  • Add color per manufacturer’s instruction.

  • Add fragrance or essential oils per manufacturer’s instructions. Hint: For every pound of soap use three teaspoons of fragrance (this does not apply for essential oils).

  • Add herbs.

  • Add any other inclusions-water for handmilled, jojoba carrier or other oils; vitamin E (a preservative), etc.

  • Whisk mixture until it begins to thicken.

  • Pour into molds.

  • Spritz each soap while still warm with alcohol to remove bubbles.

  • Allow to cool completely in mold.

  • Remove from mold.

  • Air-dry (length of time depends on what type of base you are using). Glycerin can be packaged after one hour.

Witchy Soap Making

Making your own soap with empowered herbs can be an extremely rewarding and magickal experience. The recipes that follow rely on melt-and-pour soap bases that can be purchased at your local craft store or online. This type of easy carrier allows you to make lots of fragrant soap in a single afternoon and can be a great magickal project practice with a circle of friends or your children (as long as you monitor the hot soap and you do the pouring). When shopping for a glycerin soap base, look for formulas that permit good suspension of herbs, as most herbs will sink to the bottom of the mold unless the soap is poured just at the moment of setting (which can be tricky). Here are the general supplies you will need for all of the recipes.

  • Soap cauldron (can be purchased at local craft store) or microwave (if soap directions say you can use this)

  • Desired fragrance (sweet scents help to instill good feelings and harmony within the body)

  • Small plastic baggies or shrink-wrap system for packaging after soap has cooled

  • Sharp, smooth-blade knife (for cutting soap base into small, 1-inch blocks)

  • Pyrex measuring cup (4-cup size)Wire whisk (only to be used for soap)

  • Droppers (for adding scent and color)

  • Rubbing alcohol in spritzer bottle (removes bubbles from the poured soap)

  • Ladle (if using a soap cauldron)

  • Mortar and pestle or spice grinder

  • Soap molds ( you can also use silicone muffin molds)

  • X-Acto knife ( for trimming soaps if you over-poured the mold)

  • Wire curing rack ( for handmilled soaps)

Goofer Dust Spell (4) Jack Ball

Jack balls are usually made to draw love, luck and prosperity. This one is designed to deliver a hex.

  1. First carve and dress a black candle to suit your purpose.

  2. Take some of the melted wax and roll it in the palms of your hand.

  3. Add identifying items to the little ball, your target’s fingernail clippings, hair, bits of their clothing, etc.

  4. Add a couple drops of you own urine, as a controlling mechanism.

  5. Add some Goofer Dust.

  6. Roll everything into a smooth ball.

  7. Unlike other jack balls, don’t carry this one around with you. Instead, bury it on the other person’s property.

Goofer Dust Spell (3) Candle

  1. Slice the top off a black pillar candle so that it is flat and will stand.

  2. Carve the bottom of the candle so the wick is exposed and may be lit, effectively reversing the candle

  3. Carve and dress the candle as you wish

  4. Place the candle on a plate covered with Goofer Dust and burn it, concentrating on your desires.

Candle Burning for Specific Intentions

Simply lighting a candle can be a magickal ritual unto  itself. You might like to burn a candle to help with any number of intentions, including but not limited to intentions regarding any of the following:

Banishing

Career

Creativity

Fame/Reputation

Focus

Health

Intuition/Psychic Abilities

Joy

Manifesting

Prosperity

Romance

Spirituality

Once you’ve chosen your intention, you’re ready to begin preparing for your candle ritual.

1.  Clarify

Write down your intention in one sentence, as if it’s already happened. For example, you might write “I am wealthy beyond my fondest dreams” or “I am vibrantly healthy in every way.”

2.  Select a Scent or Scents

Look at a list of oils and choose a scent or scents to help manifest your intention. Write down you selection.

3.  Select a Color

Here are some color ideas:

Black:  banishing, releasing, dissolving

Deep Blue:  intuition, psychic, abilities, success, harmony, peace

Green:  health, healing, wealth, heart opening

Lavender:  physical beauty, spirituality, harmony

Orange:  harmony, warmth, harvest, fruition, sexuality

Red:  passion, fame, strength, courage, success, vibrant health, victory, connection with the Earth.

Robin’s Egg Blue:  communication, joy, lightness, self-expression

Violet/Purple: spirituality, inner beauty, magick

White:  purity, protection, manifestation, healing

Yellow:  energy, clarity, joy, courage, personal power

4.  Obtain Your Candle

Choose or make a soy or other vegetable wax candle.

If you make it, color it and scent it with your chosen color and scent(s). If you purchase it, you can either find a candle with your chosen color and scent or just a candle with you chosen color. You can then anoint your candle with your chosen scents later.

As an alternative to getting a colored candle, you can get a white or off-white candle and place it in a colored glass jar or candleholder.

5.  Prepare Your Candle

Carve the words of your intention into the candle with a pencil, mail or something else that works. You can use the entire sentence or you can just choose a word that summarizes your intention, such as “romance,” “wealth,” “release,” or “health.” If you’re going to anoint your candle with essential oil, put a few (or more, according to your preference) drops of your chosen oil(s)in a carrier oil such as sunflower or olive oil. Then  lightly smooth this oil over the entire surface of the candle (except the bottom and the wick) with your fingers. Alternatively, use a paper towel to apply the oil if you’re not sure if the essential oils will irritate your skin.

6.  Empower Your Candle

Use one of the following two ways (a) hold it in both hands and visualize and/or feel your intended outcome as if it has already manifested, then mentally direct the energy generated by this visualization into the candle, or (b) use the three secrets empowerment.

7.  Light Your Candle

If you’re burning the candle to manifest something, burn it during the waxing moon. If you’re burning it to release or banish something, burn it during the waning moon. Once you extinguish it, you can just burn it casually whenever you’re home and feel like having some candlelight. Or, if you’d like to speed its magick, burn it whenever you’re home until it burns all the way down. Every time you light it, say a quick prayer or do a quick visualization of your intended outcome.

Lady A’s Spell for 5/11: Spell For Banishing and Needed Changes

SPELL FOR BANISHING AND NEEDED CHANGES

Instructions: Sit in a quiet place that is special to you.
Hold a white or cream candle in your hands and visualize the area of your life that this
candles energy is needed in. After you light this candle the energy will come to you.
It may come right away or when you lease expect it.
When you are ready recite the spell or use your own words of power.
This candle I see before me, its color so bright,
Holds my needs of change in its light.
I call in the forces higher than I
To release the energy that is held inside
May it work for me in the most correct way,
Harming none and helping all as it leaves my stay.
I call on thee in perfect trust and love sending me guidance from above.
This I make happen and so be it will.

Take away this thing that brings me ill.
So mote it be.3x3x3

Dressing Candles:

Dressing Candles

Dressing the candle with oil is as important as any other step. Use whatever oil you prefer or what a specific spell asks you to use. Personally, I use lotus a lot… but again that is my preference. what is important is the direction you dress the candle. To bring something to you, rub oil on the candle in a downward motion from the top to the middle and then from the bottom to the middle.
To send something away from you…you rub the oil from the middle of the candle out to the ends. Never make a back and forth motion as this defeats the purpose. Dab the remaining oil from your fingers onto your third eye and on your breast bone. Then say the following:

“I cleanse and consecrate this candle in the name of the Lord and the Lady. May it burn with strength in the service of the light.”

Then state your intent or the purpose of the candle.
Inscribing:
If you inscribe a candle you should use your Athame. The same principle as dressing the candle is used…
To draw something to you, write from the top to the middle, and then from the bottom to the middle.
To repel things, write from the middle to the ends.

Lady A’s Spell of the Day for April 29 – CANDLE SPELL TO STOP HARASSMENT

CANDLE SPELL TO STOP HARASSMENT

Timing: During the waning moon. Use a brown candle (an image candle, if you can)
to represent the person who is harassing you.
Write the person’s name on the front and back of the candle.
On a small piece of parchment paper, write:
‘From now on, (name) will say nothing but sweet words about me and to me.
By the power of Aradia, so mote it be!’
Put a drop of honey in the middle of the paper and roll it into a ball.
Heat a knife, pin or your athame, make a gash in the candle (in its mouth, if it’s an image candle)
and stuff the paper ball into it.
Let the candle burn a little while every night for an odd number of nights, to a maximum
of nine nights. Throw the remnants into flowing water, but save some candle drippings
or ash to sprinkle in the path of your oppressor.
