The Air Witch & Smudging Ceremonies

The Air Witch & Smudging Ceremonies

Smudging involves burning herbs and using the herbal smoke to cleanse and bless areas or people. It is a common and sacred practice.

Native Americans make use of three primary herbs for smudging: white sage, cedar, and sweet grass. The sage removes negative influences, the cedar cleanses the area, and the sweet grass calls in positive influences. The prayers said during the ceremony are lifted to the gods upon the smoke.

To smudge, place sand or salt in the bottom of a fireproof dish. If you are using a smudging wand, you can carry this dish beneath it to catch any hot ashes. If you are using a dried, crumbled herbal mixture, light a charcoal tablet and place it in the center of the bed of sand. Sprinkle the herbs over the charcoal as you move clockwise from area to area.

As you moved around the space wafting the smoke, say aloud, “Only love and light may dwell here. All other vibrations must leave this house {person, etc.}.” You may direct the smoke into corners and crevices with a feather, a fan, your breath, or your hand. When you have smudged the whole area, sweep the negative vibrations out the door and call in the positive vibrations that you want. Try something along the lines of, “Be gone, worry, pain, misery, and strife! Welcome, healing comfort, love and light!”

The Air Witch & Auras

The Air Witch & Auras

An aura is the colored area around the body. It is the atmosphere or spiritual essence of the self. It has been asserted that we each have a primary aura color. We cannot change our primary aura color, no matter what we do. However, there is an overlay of color on the aura that we can control and manipulate for magickal used. This kind of magick should be used only on the self, never on others.

In order to manipulate your aura overlay, you have to be able to manipulate your emotions. In the same way that the mind “colors” emotion, the body reacts to the colors in the aura field. In other words, in order to change your aura overlay to a clear, bright red (to warn others away), you would need to direct the emotion you see as red into your projected aura. This is accomplished with concentration and visualization. If you can visualize something as simple as a bubble, you can change your aura overlay.

Here are the most commonly accepted aura color interpretations:

Red: Passion, sexual energy, anger

Orange: Stability, clear thinking

Yellow: Logic, intelligence, energy, nervousness

Green: Nature lover, healer, jealousy

Blue: Peace, at rest, depressed

Purple: Spiritual

Pink: In love

Black: Negative person

White: Connected to the Divine, wise, a teacher of spirituality.

In effect, manipulating the aura is akin to throwing a glamour. The difference is in the level of concentration. A glamour only has to be strong enough to fool an onlooker, while an aura manipulation has to fool you. If you are about to go into a job interview and are nervous, your aura overlay will be yellow. You might want to change it to an orange color, which indicates a clear thinking, stable person. So, you visualize the energy inside of you as a clear bright orange, then release it from the center of the self, allowing it to stream out of your pores into your aura field. Do not ground until after the interview. Have faith that your aura overlay is now orange, and it will be.

It is a smart move to make regular aura cleansings a part of your magickal routine. This techniques are simple. While in meditation or an a separate task, simply visualize flooding your aura with a brilliant white light. You may want to smudge the aura field. Simply burn white sage or another cleansing herb in a dish, and direct the smoke all about your body with a feather of fan. Both techniques are safe and effective.

Air Witch & Aroma Magick

Air Witch & Aroma Magick

Aroma can make us hungry or feel comfort and warmth, or inspire the opposite reactions. The power of scent works with the memory and the magickal proprieties of the material. Incense, oils, herbs–all of these can be gently heated, burned or used as is to inspire a bit of the sacred each time we breathe in. Aroma is a person’s earliest sense. As babies, long before our eyes focus, we know our world from the scents that surround us.

Aromatherapy and flower essences such as the Bach flower remedies, employ scent and vibrational energy in a therapeutic sense and have been proven to change one’s mood. They can work both on the self and on others.

In order to use the essential oils listed here, simply dab the oil on a cotton ball and sniff, or place a few drops in an oil burner and gently warm the oil.

To boost memory:  Rosemary

To inspire lust:  Ginger or hibiscus

To decrease lust: camphor

To inspire hunger: Cinnamon or garlic

To create an atmosphere of comfort: Cedar

To heal: Eucalyptus

To protect: Garlic

To revive energy: Peppermint

To create sacred space: Frankincense and myrrh

To attract money: Clove

To promote sleep: Lavender

To promote laughter and joy: Orange and lemon

Air Witch & Air Magick

Air Witch & Air Magick

Air magick pertains to all things that travel through the air. This includes death, music, thoughts, spirits, dreams and invisibility. Other specialty areas include travel magick and twilight studies. The word twilight is used here to describe the state of mind when we are not quite asleep and not quite awake. It is a shift in consciousness that allows for the more surreal parts of life to come into sharper focus.

Like dirt and water, each type of wind contains its own primary properties. The magickal properties and purposes corresponding to the different types of winds are as follows:

Whirlwind:  Whirlwinds run the gamut from gentle “dust devils” to full-blown tornadoes. This is a powerful aspect of wind to use; however, it is best to only use the violent form on the astral plane. This is the best wind to use to banish or destroy. Be careful with whirlwinds, even if only on the astral plane, because they tend to confuse.

South wind: The south wind is the warm wind of fire. It can work as an all-purpose magickal booster; however, it can easily cloud a situation. The South wind brings blessings of friendship.  Singing into the south wind can facilitate contact with loved ones. It is the wind of celebration.

North wind: The north wind is the proverbial wind of change. It is the icy col wind of death and works well in spells of destruction or banishment. It is connected to the element of earth, and can be used as a healing wind. The north wind moves things forward in time.

East wind:  The east wind relates to air. It symbolizes new beginnings and fresh starts. This is a good wind to use for matters involving intellect and self-improvement. It ushers in clarity and clears the mind.

West wind:  The west wind is the wind of love and  emotion. It relates to the element of water. Cleansing and divination are favored when the west wind is blowing. The voices of the dead are heard on the west wind.

Life As The Witch – Using Imagery In Your Magick

Life As The Witch

The Use of Imagery In Your Magick

The success of any work you may do depends on images created by the mind.

This is where the imagination enters into the formula. Anything that serves to intensify the emotions will contribute to success of your spell working. Any drawing, statue, photo, scent, article of clothing, sound, or situation that helps to merge you with your desire will greatly add to your success. Imagery is a constant reminder of what you wish to attract or accomplish. It acts as a homing device in its role as a representation of the object, person or situation for which the spell is intended. Imagery can be shaped and directed all according to the will of the Practitioner without detracting from focusing the mind on the spell’s intent. This becomes the pattern or formula that leads to realization of desire. Surround yourself with images you desire and you will resonate the vibrations that will attract the thing you desire.

Using the Power of the Elementals to Clear Negative Earth Energies

Using the Power of the Elementals to Clear Negative Earth Energies

Elementals are essential to the movement of energy through the Earth. But sometimes energy lines get blocked because of human pollution such as motorway construction, phone-mast erection or mine working that has been abandoned though the resources are not naturally exhausted. Other causes include major housing developments especially in direct line with sacred sites. Sometimes housing or workplaces are created from old business premises or institutions such as mental hospitals, prisons or warehouses. These can carry negative feeling from earlier inhabitants that likewise sour and slow the flow of energies through the new homes and office. These negative earth energies are sometimes called geopathic stress.

If you live or work in a place of negative earth energies then the building or certain rooms may feel cold or seem dark even in Summer. Plants will not thrive and animals refuse to settle. Children may become factious there or have night mares if the blocked psychic streams are below a bedroom. You may feel tired or suffer a series of minor illnesses and accidents in common with others who live or work there or there may be a lot of quarrels seemingly triggered by no logical causes. Stress-related illnesses are common among workers in such establishments.

One of the best ways to remove such negative energies is to set amethyst geodes (tiny crystals in rock ) around the area and wash them regularly. However, an elemental ritual is very effective and very fast-acting, so this can be repeated every month or so if you feel the negativity returning.

Because you won’t be at a spot of natural elemental power, you can use elemental spirit substances to transfer elemental energies to a problem area, large or small. You can also use the same ritual near the center of your home or business to revitalize the energies to restore good luck and happiness if you have had a run of misfortune.

Water Elementals

Water Elementals

These are manifest in rough seas, flowing rivers, mill streams and fast-flowing watercourses, as will o’the wisps over marshland, in waterfalls, in bubbles and foam, in water spouts, geysers, hot streams and pools, near water holes and wells that are still used regularly, on busy inland waterways used for leisure or commerce and near estuaries especially at tide turn; in any water on the night of the Full Moon; also in Jacuzzis, whirlpool baths and flumes at swimming pools.

They appear in the animal kingdom as frogs, dolphins, whales, seals walruses, all fish – especially the salmon – as sea horses, crabs and all crustaceans.

Air Elementals

Air Elementals

At their most powerful, these are manifest as the sudden tossing of a pile of leaves, as high winds, storms, sand storms, dust clouds, whirlwinds, hurricanes, tornadoes, rainbows, comets and shooting stars. You can experience air elemental if you are standing on the deck of a ship in a high wind; see their patterns in the clouds outside the cabin of an aircraft during turbulence; and witness them on swinging bridges and in all high, open places, especially in unsettled weather.

They are also expressed through the power and flight of the eagle, hawk and birds of prey in swooping flocks of birds, as butterflies and as the mythical Native North American Thunderbird.

The Power of the Elementals

The Power of the Elementals

Elemental magick is the most dynamic and powerful of all, manifest in the everyday world through nature at her most magnificent and unpredictable. It can be experienced in storms and thunderbolts, waterfalls, rough seas, bonfires, wild craggy mountain sides with tiny pieces of stone slipping down the slopes, rocky shorelines, clay cliffs constantly eroding and shimmering deserts.

Practitioners especially in medieval times, worked a lot with elemental spirits, trying to bind them for their ritual purposes. Some got themselves into very bad situations by setting themselves above the elementals and ordering them around. They summoned elemental spirits as servants and in doing so made them into independent tulpas or thought forms, rather than working with them within nature itself.

You can imagine, a fire tulpa was very powerful in a spell, but however much protection you may use  psychically, such a concentrated form of energy is hard to banish or to bid farewell, especially since it cannot be destroyed and as a tulpa has its own free will.

There are a number of very old magick books and a few modern irresponsible ones that give such rituals. No matter how extensive your magickal development, you should never try creating elemental thought forms, especially collectively with coven members or friends, unless you are very careful. Then I wouldn’t.

What is more, elemental energies are neutral and can be used for good or bad. In nature herself, a forest fire can clear an area of dead woodland, but an out-of-control conflagration destroys homes, habitats, animals, birds and people. We should never deal with elementals lightly. Above all, it is really important not to work with the elementals when you are feeling angry or negative as your thoughts can be amplified by the elemental powers and you may unwillingly unleash powerful negative feelings.

Elemental Magick

Elemental Magick

Elementals are the forces behind each act of creation and destruction. They conduct the life force through nature. Each of the four elements (Earth, Air, Fire and Water) is manifest through the essences of the individual elements. They translate the blueprints of the nature devas into the actual flowers, trees or crystals. Elementals give the seeds the power to grow and the energy to flourish as mature trees. They continue to energize the cycle of growth, maturity and decay through the scattering of new seeds until the eventual bark decays, the tree dies and is replaced; in the case of a Yew tree this can take up to two thousand years.

Elementals don’t exist permanently as separate entities from their elements. Nor do they have distinct species or personal characteristics in the same way as for example a gnome, the archetypal earth nature spirit, does. However, they can appear as wavy, flickering, flame-like figures, as swirling shimmers of water rising from a waterfall, as darting flashes of light in the air or as a wispy mist rising over the land. People fleeing from forest fires have described how animated flames seem to curl like huge fingers to snatch at them.

When an elemental has finished its task, which could last from a few minutes to a thousand years or more, they return to their own element in  undifferentiated form. They can change size and appearance while they are animated, but remain as part of the same element. What is more they cannot after the first creation brought the elements into being, be created or destroyed.

The elemental beings are, therefore, the bridge of power between the material and spiritual plane.

INVOCATION OF THE ELEMENTS

INVOCATION OF THE ELEMENTS

Air, Fire, Water, Earth,

Elements of Astral birth,

I call you now; attend to me!

In the circle, rightly cast,

Safe from psychic curse or blast,

I call you now, attend to me!

From cave and desert, sea and hill,

By blade and wand, cup and pentacle,

I call you now; attend to me!

This is my will, so mote it be!

[This invocation may be chanted while moving or dancing around the altar to raise elemental energy for magickal workings.]
