Book of Shadows Blessing Spell

Preparation:

At the time of the Full Moon, take your Book of Shadows (one that hasn’t been written in yet) and some incense (pennyroyal, anise or rue) outside.

Ritual:

Under the light of the Full Moon, draw a pentagram on the first page and under this write the following information: date, time, place, your magical name (and sigil if you have one), the moon’s phase and any other info you feel is important. Hold the book up to the Moon and say:

Here as the Full Moon shines upon me, Bless this Book I’ve made tonight. I humbly ask this of thee, Underneath your most sacred light.

A Blessing for an Autumn Fire

When the hills of my valley blaze with autumn color, I know it’s time to ready my woodstove for the winter season. If you have a fireplace or wood stove, it’s a good idea to perform a blessing ritual as you light the season’s first fire, especially if you perform fire magic. Ready the wood and ignite the fire using the flame of a white or orange candle as you recite this blessing:

Ancient fire,
Burn safely and bright.
Favor me with warmth and light.
Creator of the magical Jinn,
Welcome to my hearth again.
Outside nature dies,
And the world grows dark.
Warm me forever with your spark.

As a purifying offering, sprinkle a bit of salt on the flames. Sit by the fire and meditate or divine by the flames. Most of all enjoy

the season’s first fire.

Take a long blue cord or ribbon, and collect 7 symbols to hang from it — things like Grey feathers for protection during sleep, sprigs of healing herbs, garlic for healing and protection, small talismans, conjure bags, charms you get the idea. The important thing is that the symbols should represent comfort, protection, and healing. Tie them to the cord and charge it with comforting power.

Spell of the Day for July 9 – Protective Celtic Blessing for the Family

A Protective Celtic Blessing For The Family

This is especially good if you have to be away from the family temporarily or if the family are widespread. It also sends strength to individual family members at times when they need protection. You might like to perform this blessing regularly, making it a special centering time first thing in the morning before you go about your day – if you are busy, once a week or once a month is fine. Think of it as your ‘chicken’s call’, sending protection to all of your chicks, especially if your away.

Items You Will Need:

A candle, a fire or a wood-burning stove (in a hotel you can improvise with a lamp.)

Timing:

When you get up in the Morning.

The Spell:

Light the candle, fire or stove
Facing the source of light or heat, name those you wish to protect, focusing on any who are currently in special need of protection.
Recite three times: “I kindle my fire this morning with this good peat, without fear or envy of any who walk beneath the good Sun this day. I kindle this flame in my hearth and my heart for food on my table, health in my home and a gentle parting when my days are ended. I kindle in my heart this morning a flame of love to my neighbors, my foe and my kindred and God over all protecting May you be protected.”
If you are using a candle, blow out the flame, sending light to the family. If you are using a fire or stove, add a small piece of fuel.
Before you rush into the day, send a few special words to anyone among your friends you feel might be in special need.

Car Protection/Blessing

Before leaving on a trip, create a protective sachet for your car. Add the following to an orange pouch or cloth – one Tiger’s Eye, a pinch of Sage, a Silver Coin and three pieces of Galangal Root. Beltane, often called May Day, is a time of fertility, merry-making and joy. The Fae are very active on this day as the Earth is blooming anew, bringing forth new life. All around, sexuality is in the air. Animals mating, birds building nests, flowers blooming.
For the Celts, Beltane began on April 30th at sundown. Fires were lit on the hillside made from sacred wood, couples went into the woods and made love rejoicing in the fertility of the Earth. Many customs surround this day, including the Maypole, May baskets, walking the boundaries of your land and the blessing of gardens.
Here is a blessing that I use each year on my gardens that hasnt failed me yet!!

You will need:
Cornmeal (representing the God)
Moon Water (representing the Goddess. Recipe follows)

Stand before your garden, freshly plowed or planted. Raise your hands in the air and say:

“Lady and Lord of the Green, I thank you for the renewed life all around me and I ask that you extend this blessing to my little patch of earth that I tend.”

Go to the center of the garden and pour alittle of the moon water and a pinch of the cornmeal.

Go to the East Corner of the garden. Thank the spirits of Air for watching over the garden and guarding it, for circulating freely and blessing. Say:

“The sun kisses the earth, and earth brings forth life. Blessed Be, Great Ones.”

Pour a bit of moon water and a pinch of cornmeal in the East. Next go to the South and repeat, thanking the spirits of Fire for sunlight to feed the plants and their blessing. Next, the West, thanking the spirits of Water for rain and their blessing, and finally the North, thanking the spirits of Earth for fertile soil and their blessing.
Return to the center, and thank Great Spirit for the fertility of the Earth and the blessing on your plants. Again sprinkle moon water and cornmeal. It is done!!

How to make Moon Water
On the night of the Full Moon, pour spring water into a silver or crystal bowl. Add a quartz crystal. After sundown, take the bowl outside and place it in a place where the moon can shine on it all night long. Hold your hand over the bowl, and pray, asking the Lady of the Moon to shine Her blessings on the water and fill it with Her energies. Be sure to bring the bowl in before sunrise. Store in a dark colored bottle.

A Broom Blessing

Your broom is not merely your broom, it is your magickal broom. As it sweeps your floors clean of physical debris, it sweeps your home clean of negative energy and energetic debris, which lifts the vibrations and clears the way for positive feelings and conditions. Performing this blessing ritual on your broom (and/or vacuum which is merely a modernized version of a broom) will fully activate in magickal power and consecrate it for you magickal purposes.

What you will need:

A white sheet or towel
1/4 cup salt
One stick Frankincense incense
One white or off-white candle
A mister of rose water

On the day or evening of the Full Moon, assemble the items and lay your broom flat on the white sheet or towel. Light the candle and incense. Lift the broom and bathe it in the smoke of the incense while saying:

“I call on the power of Air to bless this broom.”

Now hold the broom over the flame (being very careful not to set it on fire) and say:

“I call on the power of Fire to bless this broom.”

Lay the broom back onto the cloth and lightly mist it with the rose water (one pump will do) while saying:

“I call on the power of Water to bless the broom.”

Sprinkle the salt over the broom and say:

“I call on the power of Earth to bless this broom.”

When you feel ready, gently shake and dust the salt off the broom and onto the cloth. Lift the broom and hold it in both hands. Close your eyes and feel the awakened magickal power of the broom. Next, envision very bright white light flowing down from above, through the top of your head, and throughout your body. See this light also flowing into the broom, as if the broom is an extension of your energy field. After a moment, say:

“This broom is now consecrated and blessed. Blessed Be. So Mote It Be.”

Extinguish the candle and incense. Shake the salt from the cloth into the bathtub and put the cloth in the laundry.

Self-blessing

Self-blessing

Self-blessing is a good way to make yourself feel better when you are feeling down and dispirited. Prepare some purified salt water and center into yourself. Focus on the Mother aspect of the Goddess and ask her to bless your life and your body. Dip your fingertips into the water and press them lightly to your forehead, chest, and belly.

Put the salt water down and meditate on the power of the Goddess as it is expressed within you. At the end of your meditation, pick up a vial of scented oil and daub a bit onto one finger. Lightly press that finger to your left shoulder, then your right shoulder, your belly and back to your left shoulder, saying, “I am a child of the Gods and I live under their protection.”

Dragon Blessing

This is a ritual for blessing and consecrating all your ritual tools. Whether your ritual tools are chosen specifically for dragon magick or whether you plan to use them in several kinds of magick, it is wise, as well as a nice gesture, to ask your dragons to add their powerful blessings to the equipment. The stronger the power in a magickal ritual tool, the better the rituals are worked.

This ritual is best done on a Full Moon or at bright noon. All of the tools may be consecrated at once if you have gathered them, or you may consecrate those that you have at this point. Others may be blessed as you acquire them. Any jewelry can be blessed at the initiation ceremony. Have pure frankincense gum to burn in the incense burner; a little goes a long way with gums, which tend to smoke.

Tools that you will find useful at this point are the dragon pentacle, the pentacle disk, incense burner, chalices, salt dish, sword, and wand. If you cannot drink wine, substitute apple cider, grape juice, fruit juice or soda.

Arrange your ritual area with care. It is best to set the altar in the center of your working area so that you can face the east. Light the two altar candles (black on the left, white on the right). Remember, if you are timid about using black, substitute extremely dark blue, purple or indigo.

Play soft instrumental music, if you wish. It helps to create the proper atmosphere and mask minor noises. Once the circle is cast, do not cross the boundary until the ritual is finished! You are dealing with mischievous creatures in this type of magick. Dragon power is a totally different and more unpredictable kind of magick: it can even be dangerous if you are frivolous and half-hearted about your work.

Begin the ritual by going to the east. With the forefinger of your power hand (this is generally considered the one with which you write), “draw” your magickal circle on the floor around your ritual area. Do this by pointint your finger at the floor and seeing great flames shooting from it. Move clockwise around the circle with this flame; end by overlapping it in the east. While drawing the circle, say:

“BY DRAGON POWER, THIS CIRCLE IS SEALED.”

Return to the altar. Put a small amount of frankincense on the burning charcoal in the incense burner. Point your forefinger at the burner; say,

“BY DRAGON POWER, I CALL YOU PURIFIED.”

Lift the incense burner and carry it clockwise around the edge of the cast circle, beginning and ending in the east. Return the burner to the altar.

Slowly pass the pentacle disk through the incense smoke, Say;

“ELEMENT OF SPIRIT, BY DRAGON POWER I CALL YOU PURIFIED.”

Set the dish of salt on the pentacle disk. Circle the dish three times clockwise with your forefinger. Say:

“OUT OF THE DARKNESS OF EARTH AND SEA COMES THIS BLESSED SALT.

BY DRAGON POWER, I CALL YOU PURIFIED.”

Sprinkle a few grains of salt on all four corners of the altar. This sprinkling purifies the altar and may be done at any time, whether during ritual or as a cleansing if someone has messed about with your altar.

Pass the dragon pentacle through the incense smoke and say:

“ELEMENT OF SPIRIT, BY DRAGON POWER I CALL YOU PURIFIED.”

With the dragon pentacle in your power hand, go to the eastern quarter. Hold up the pentacle, facing the east. Say:

“DRAGONS OF AIR, BEHOLD YOUR SYMBOL AND ALLY.”

Moving clockwise, go to the south. Hold up the pentacle, say:

“DRAGONS OF FIRE, BEHOLD YOUR SYMBOL AND ALLY.”

Go to the west. Hold up the pentacle, say:

“DRAGON OF WATER, BEHOLD YOUR SYMBOL AND ALLY.”

Finish by going to the north. Hold up the pentacle, say:

“DRAGONS OF EARTH, BEHOLD YOUR SYMBOL AND ALLY.”

Return to the altar. Lay aside the dragon pentacle and take up the sword. Touch it briefly to the pentacle disk and pass it through the incense smoke. (You will have to keep adding small amounts of incense through out the ritual, but not enough to make breathing uncomfortable.) Say:

“SWORD OF FIRE, O (NAME OF SWORD),

BY DRAGON POWER I CALL YOU PURIFIED.”

Hold the sword for a few moments before the dragon pentacle. Put down the sword and take up the dagger. Touch it to the pentacle disk, pass through the incense smoke, and say:

“DAGGER OF FIRE, O (NAME OF DAGGER),

BY DRAGON POWER I CALL YOU PURIFIED.”

Hold the dagger for a few moments before the dragon pentacle.

For each tool set it briefly on the pentacle disk, then pass it through the incense smoke. When finished with the Call, hold the tool up before the dragon pentacle.

Water chalice:

“CHALICE OF WATER, BY DRAGON POWER I CALL YOU PURIFIED.”

Wine chalice:

“CHALICE OF EARTH, BY DRAGON POWER I CALL YOU PURIFIED.”

Dragon bowl:

“BOWL OF EARTH, YOU HOLDER OF LANDS FAR DISTANT AND NEAR, BY DRAGON POWER I CALL YOUR PURIFIED.”

Gem bowl:

“BOWL OF EARTH, YOU HOLDER OF GEMS BRIGHT AND POWERFUL, BY DRAGON POWER I CALL YOU PURIFIED.”

Wand:

“WAND OF AIR, WIELDER OF MIGHT AND MAGICK, BY DRAGON POWER I CALL YOU PURIFIED.”

Staff:

“STAFF OF SPIRIT, AUTHORITY AND POWER ARE YOURS, BY DRAGON POWER I CALL YOU PURIFIED.”

Water bottles:

“CONTAINERS OF WATER, HOLDER OF GREAT SEAS AND RIVERS, BY DRAGON POWER I CALL YOU PURIFIED.”

Gong, finger cymbals or bell:

“YOU ELEMENT OF AIR, WHOSE MUSICAL NOTES REACH TO THE DRAGON WORLDS, BY DRAGON POWER I CALL YOU PURIFIED.”

Mirror:

“EYE OF THE DRAGON, YOU ELEMENT OF EARTH, BY DRAGON POWER I CALL YOU PURIFIED.”

Whenever you get new supplies of herbs and oils, they can be consecrated by circling them three times with your wand and saying:

“HERBS (OILS) OF EARTH, GIVEN BY DRAGONS OF LIGHT AND DARKNESS, BY DRAGON POWER I CALL YOU PURIFIED.”

Now is an excellent time to chant and use free-form dancing. Invite the dragons to share in the raised energy and your joy of being a magician. Talk to them about your hopes and dreams. And listen to see if they have suggestions or words of encouragement for you. This is an opportunity for close friendships to be forged.

To close the ritual, take your sword in your power hand, your wand or staff in the other. Hold the sword up in salute. Go to the east and say:

“DRAGONS OF AIR, BEHOLD THE TOOLS OF MAGICK,

CONSECRATED BY DRAGON POWER,

LET US BE ONE IN MAGICK.
