Generally, a serious decision should not be the result of a knee-jerk reaction. Here is advice I once heard at a lecture in 1981, in Portland, Oregon. “If you act with discipline, you will have no regrets. This means if you do something and you don’t regret it, then you acted with discipline. Or if you do something and you regret it, then you didn’t act with discipline. And if you don’t do something and you don’t regret it, then you acted with discipline. And if you don’t do something and you regret it, then you didn’t act with discipline.” For years, this has been a helpful litmus test for me when making decisions. Especially when buying bananas.

Aries (March 21-April 19)

This Full Moon will be challenging for you when it comes to romantic connections and relationships with your kids. In fact, this is an accident-prone time so be extra vigilant with your children to avoid mishaps. You must also be patient with them. (Remember that you are the adult and the role model for demonstrating tolerance and understanding.) This week also marks a shift in energy for you, which means in the next four weeks, you’re ready to work and bust your buns! You want to get as much done as possible, in an efficient, effective way. You might also improve your job or get a raise. Certainly, coworkers will be supportive. Even your health will be vigourous. Yay!

Taurus (April 20-May 20)

Many of you might feel tension and difficulties dealing with family members, especially parents or authority figures. Note: Monday’s Full Moon will bring situations to a head, especially related to old business. One example might be a quarrel because something isn’t finished or not done yet. In turn, this creates resentment and criticism. (Isn’t this fun?) Whatever the quarrel (and it’s likely about something from the past) – let it go. Ten years from now — how important will this be? Instead, you can look forward to four weeks of lighthearted fun, social outings, the enjoyment of sports events and fun activities with kids. It’s the truth!

Gemini (May 21-June 20)

On Monday everyone faces a challenging Full Moon; and for Gemini, this includes an accident-prone influence. Therefore, from the moment you are reading these words, be extra cautious. Pay attention to everything you say and do. Don’t be hasty. Drive slowly and keep your eyes open because you are definitely in an accident-prone window. Even verbal gaffes will be embarrassing. The main thing is you want to protect your body. And your possessions. You will also notice a shift to home and family for the next four weeks as your interest in redecorating and entertaining at home grows. You might explore real-estate opportunities. Many of you will be more involved with a parent.

Cancer (June 21-July 22)

You save money and find bargains. You’re not casual about money. Right now, as Monday’s Full Moon approaches, you might be in an argument with someone about money, earnings, cash flow or something you own. Or perhaps, something you owe? Or it might be because someone has broken or harmed your possessions, or caused you to lose money. It’s sudden and you’re not happy. Cope with this as best you can because you are a reasonable, sensitive person. Meanwhile, fasten your seatbelt because in the next four weeks, the pace of your days will accelerate because you have places to go, things to do and people to see!

Leo (July 23-Aug. 22)

This is a tough time for friendships and partnerships. Monday’s Full Moon will bring things to a head, especially issues building up from the past. You might have to weigh the benefits and the disadvantages of staying in a relationship. You might want to strike a blow for freedom? “Enough is enough.” Before you make an important decision, please read the advice I shared in All Signs above. Meanwhile, you’re popular and enjoying the company of friends as well as interactions with groups. Virgo (Aug. 23-Sept. 22)

This is a challenging time because issues from the past that have lingered with you are suddenly coming to the surface and can’t be ignored. They could relate to a relationship, your work, a pet, or even your health. Meanwhile, something unexpected, perhaps with another country or someone from a different culture might trigger things so that you feel you have to act. Fortunately, this week the Sun enters your sign to stay for four weeks and this will boost your confidence and your energy! It will attract people and favourable situations to you. It will be your turn to shine!

Libra (Sept. 23-Oct. 22)

This might be a challenging time for you because, you are a people pleaser. You don’t like to rock the boat. You like harmony in your surroundings both physically and emotionally. The Full Moon on Monday is particularly challenging, which is why you might feel at odds with friends or groups. Something unexpected might happen that causes you to want to stop your interaction with someone or a group. Possibly, this pertains to difficulties in a romantic relationship? For some, it might even be challenges dealing with your kids. The unexpected urgency of something makes you want to act, even rashly. (This is why I shared the advice mentioned in All Signs above.)

Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 21)

You are a powerful sign. You’re determined and disciplined. Monday’s Full Moon will create tension between you and an authority figure (parents, bosses, VIPs or the police.) In fact, something unexpected, perhaps related to a friend or a partner, could trigger a sudden desire to make changes. At the very least, you’re going to clarify things and speak your mind. This could be about an ongoing problem (from your point of view) related to a boss or a parent. If possible, think about the ramifications of what you are about to do. Meanwhile, you’re heading into a popular four weeks ahead where everyone wants to see your face. Fun city!

Sagittarius (Nov. 22-Dec. 21)

Please be aware this is an accident-prone time for you. (Yikes!) Pay attention to everything you say as well as everything you do. Think before you speak, even though something unexpected might prompt you to act rashly. (Moi?) The thing is, you don’t want to say something you later regret. (See All Signs above.) In fact, this week the Sun moves to the top of your chart to stay for four weeks. This happens only once a year, and when it occurs, it casts you in a flattering spotlight, which makes you look great in everyone’s eyes. This is why people will ask you to take on increased responsibilities. They will admire you!

Capricorn (Dec. 22-Jan. 19)

Keep an eye on money, cash flow and your possessions right now because Monday’s Full Moon will create some disruptions for you. It could challenge your responsibilities in a particular situation. It might relate to banking, shared property, insurance issues, and it will be something you did not expect that you have to deal with. Do not act rashly. Give everything a sober, second thought, which is your style. You’re prepared to work hard now and work smart. Meanwhile, beginning this week, travel beckons! If possible, get thee to an airport or start driving and watch those telephone poles go by because you want a change of scenery! Romance with someone different is in the picture. Woot!

Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 18)

Heads up because things are coming to a crescendo in some fashion in your world because Monday is a difficult Full Moon and it is the only Full Moon in your sign all year. Pisces (Feb. 19-March 20)

You might feel unsettled. This could be due to your job, your health or a pet. Or perhaps you suspect that there is someone who is working against your best interests? (Sneaky and unsettling.) This might relate to unfinished business that’s been dragging on related to your work or even your health. You also have pressure right now dealing with family because increased chaos is a bit challenging. You might feel you’re not getting the support from a friend or partner that you wish. Whatever the case, resist knee-jerk reactions and doing something you might later regret. Be cool. In fact, partnerships will be your major focus in the next four weeks.

Rare ‘Supermoon Blue Moon’ Will be Brightest and Biggest This Year – Earth.com

The heavens are laying out a dazzling red carpet for a rare supermoon that’s about to make its appearance. It’s set to outshine and outsize all the other moons we’ve marveled at this year.

Remember to look up on August 19. The August full moon, lovingly dressed up as the ‘Sturgeon moon’, promises to sprinkle its brilliance across the twilight. It will gleam at approximately 30 percent brighter than your everyday moonlit night.

But if you’re concerned about missing out on this heavenly show, don’t you worry. Over the next few months, the sky will be a stage for a sequence of these giant moons.

Prime time to view supermoon

Our Sturgeon moon will reach its zenith at 2:26pm ET on August 19. Those located in the United States may not get a glimpse of it at this time. This is because our lone satellite will be on the other side of our home planet, Earth.

You can still feast your eyes on this celestial marvel at moonrise, which is slated to happen around 8:07 p.m. ET. And you can trust this timing – it’s straight from the Farmer’s Almanac, known for its reliability.

For spectators on the East Coast, the supermoon will arise in the east-southeastern skies. It will ascend about one-third of the way across the sky before taking a bow at approximately 7:00 a.m. in the west-southwest.

Supermoon: When and how?

If you find yourself pondering over why supermoons look so incredibly large and brilliant, allow us to let you in on the secret.

A supermoon comes into its own, appearing at its maximum size and brightness when it’s closest to the horizon. This happens just after moonrise or before moonset.

This spectacle takes place when the full moon is at ‘perigee,’ which is the point in its orbit when it’s its closest to Earth.

Supermoons scatter about 30 percent more light on our planet than the moon at its dimmest. This is because more of the sun’s rays bouncing off the moon’s surface reach us on Earth.

More supermoons coming up

In case you can’t make it for this event, there’s no reason to be upset. More stargazing opportunities are waiting in the wings.

After the Sturgeon moon, the next supermoons of 2024 are scheduled for September 18, October 17, and November 15.

It’s typical to be graced with supermoons three to four times per year, and they always appear in consecutive months.

This supermoon is also a “blue moon”

Even though it won’t actually look blue, the third full moon in a season with four full moons is called a blue moon.

The first time “blue moon” showed up in English was back in 1528. There’s some speculation about where the term comes from — some say it comes from an old English phrase meaning “betrayer moon,” since it messed up the dates for Lent and Easter.

To make the most of this experience, find a spot with a clear view of the horizon, like a beach, hill, or open field. If you find yourself in an urban setting, darker skies offer a better view as light pollution can put a damper on the moon’s brightness.

To really delve into details like craters, think about bringing binoculars or a telescope. These tools will boost your ability to take in the moon’s beauty up close.

Carefully picking the right place and equipment will turn this into an unforgettable experience. It will let you forge a deeper connection with the marvels of the night sky.

Moonlight magic

Appreciating these celestial shows can be even more enjoyable once we understand the science behind the moon’s light. Moonlight isn’t generated by the moon itself. Instead, it’s sunlight reflecting off the moon’s surface.

This reflection can alter depending on the moon’s phase and position relative to Earth. This, in turn, influences how bright or dim the moon appears in our night sky.

This results in a breathtaking show that grabs attention worldwide. The interplay of light and distance creates an ever-evolving sight that continues to spark scientific interest and artistic inspiration.

Dance between Earth and moon

The distance between Earth and the moon is always changing because of the moon’s elliptical orbit around our planet. This fluctuation can range up to around 226,000 miles.

When the moon is nearest to Earth, it appears larger and brighter, and when it’s farthest, it appears smaller and dimmer. If the moon’s orbit were a perfect circle, we would not see these changes in size and brightness during a full moon.

3,000-year-old Goddess Figurine Found in an Italian Lake Still Bears the Handprints of Its Maker

A 3,000-year-old clay figurine thought to portray an ancient goddess has been discovered in a volcanic lake in central Italy.

Archaeologists think the object was a votive figurine that was probably crafted so prayers could be directed to it. Its features are only crudely finished, but the figurine still bears the handprints of whoever made it, as well as the impression of a fabric pattern that suggests it was originally clothed in some sort of garment.

Government archaeologists for the Etruria region and police divers made the discovery last month at Lake Bolsena, about 50 miles (80 kilometers) northwest of Rome.

The east side of the lake is the location of the submerged Gran Carro archaeological site, which is thought to be the remains of an Iron Age village built in the 10th or ninth century B.C. and which later sank underwater.

The clay figurine, which measures about 6 inches (15 centimeters) long, was found in the ruins of a residence at the sunken site, and archaeologists think it was related to a domestic ritual. Similar rituals have been documented in the region in later periods, suggesting such practices are very ancient, and similar figurines have been found in Iron Age graves, according to a translated Facebook post .

“This is an exceptional discovery, one of a kind,” the archaeologists said in the post. “It shows aspects of daily life in the early Iron Age, of which little is known in southern Etruria.”

Submerged village

Geologists have established that Lake Bolsena formed between 600,000 and 200,000 years ago during eruptions of the underlying Vulsini volcano. Roman records indicate the volcano was active as recently as 104 B.C., and scientists now think the ancient village was submerged when the eastern shore sank amid seismic activity.

According to archaeologists, the sunken village containing the newfound figurine was probably built by people from the Villanovan culture, an early stage of the Etruscan civilization that preceded the founding of Rome. The thousands of artifacts found there since the 1960s include pieces of wood, household objects, jewelry and pieces of pottery, and studies of the village’s layout suggest how the Iron Age society there was organized.

The Gran Carro site is now being developed under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan, which includes the creation of an underwater path for visitors, according to the Facebook post.

One of the site’s most mysterious features is the Aiola, a large pile of submerged stones that archaeologists now think was a structure built beside a geothermal spring. Recent discoveries in the San Casciano dei Bagni region, a few miles to the north, indicate such hot springs were sacred to the later Etruscans and Romans.

Explorations in 1991 showed the Aiola structure still contained fragments of wooden poles and pottery from the Iron Age, and research in 2020 showed that the stones covered an earthen mound. Coins minted during the rule of the Roman emperor Constantine the Great (who lived circa 272 to 337) have also been found at the site, indicating it was used even in late Roman times.

After taking yesterday off from, well basically, everything my fibromyalgia flare has calmed down enough that I can do a little more on the computer. So here are your regular daily posts. The Moon’s current phase for today and tonight is a First Quarter phase. This phase occurs roughly 7 days after the New Moon when the moon is one quarter of the way through its orbit around the earth. Exactly half the moon will be illuminated and half dark.
