Black Swan

Wherever the Black Swan appears in your reading you can expect unexpected and unpredictable events to majorly impact your life in that aspect.  Beyond noting that the influences Black Swan indicates will be extraordinarily large in scope, it may be difficult to tell if the fortune it foretells will be good or bad.  Black Swan affected events may begin so subtly that they are very difficult to identify.  When trying to discover what the Black Swan portends for you, look for events that do not occur in your life regularly or at all.

Today’s Tarot Card for October 20th is The Hanged Man

The Hanged Man

Sunday, Oct 20th, 2013

Traditionally, the card known as the Hanged Man usually indicates a lack of ability to help oneself through independent action. This energy is arrested and awaiting judgment. With this card, there is no avenue for the will to regain control until the situation has passed.

This represents a good time to be philosophical, to study and meditate upon the position you find yourself in, and form resolutions for the moment you become free again. Only those who possess wisdom, patience and optimism will be able to see through limitations, including possible humiliation, to grasp the inspiring lesson one can gain from such an experience.

What’s your Sun sign’s deepest fear?

Tarotcom Staff Tarotcom Staff on the topics of halloween, astrology

It’s that time of year again, when Americans like to scare themselves with ghosts, goblins and the rest of Halloween’s spooky tomfoolery. You might call it our annual fear fest, but are these truly our worst fears? Of course not. To find qualms that really make our skin crawl, we need to dig a little deeper.

Take a look at these zodiac sign nightmares and see if they don’t send a shiver up your spine.

Aries (March 21 – April 19)

You are at the end of a long line hiking up a tall mountain. The group’s leaders are Virgos, arguing about which way to go, while everyone else plods along at a snail’s pace. You’re going to have to push your way to the head of the line and stage a coup … or tear your hair out. Which will it be?

Taurus (April 20 – May 20)

Wait a minute … whose car is that in your garage? Okay, the one you had was breaking down every other day and you were thinking about replacing it … but it was a comfy jalopy and, besides, you hadn’t finished your research. Now someone has gone and made up your mind for you. That’s not fair!

Gemini (May 21 – June 20)

Can’t someone just change that muzak? If orchestral string covers weren’t bad enough, you work in a room all alone, your iPhone is dead and you can’t even get your browser to load. Communication breakdown … your private version of hell … has finally come true.

Cancer (June 21 – July 22)

As you open your door, your friends shout “surprise!” It’s your birthday and they’ve got an all-you night planned. As you squeeze between co-workers you barely know, they start projecting a PowerPoint featuring your naked baby pictures, every bad hairdo and ugly date you’ve ever had, plus your fat phase.

Leo (July 23 – Aug 22)

Amidst booing and hissing, olives and cocktail umbrellas flying through the air … you’re cowering on a karaoke stage after what you thought was a knockout rendition of Wild Thing. Returning to your table, you find your date has bailed and left a napkin note telling you what a complete loser you are.

Virgo (Aug 23 – Sept 22)

You’re behind a counter, facing a long line of angry customers waiting to tell you in detail about everything that’s wrong with the product you designed. That’s right, the one you slaved over for years and were sure would be a best seller. They don’t want exchanges or refunds … they want your head!

Libra (Sept 23 – Oct 22)

Your partner’s quirks have been gnawing on your last nerve for what seems like eons. You’re about to explode when … sure enough, like clockwork … he/she pulls one more stunt. Arms flailing, screaming at the top of your lungs, you lunge for his/her throat. So much for your famous emotional control, Libra.

Scorpio (Oct 23 – Nov 21)

You trust your new sweetie implicitly, but that doesn’t keep you from indulging in a little snooping while he/she is in the shower. Rummaging through bedside drawers, you discover a set of sexy underwear you’ve never seen before. Two can play at this game, you vow, as you plot your revenge.

Sagittarius (Nov 22 – Dec 21)

The jury has come back with its verdict and you’re guilty. You’ll be spending the next decade of your life in one place. But don’t worry … it’s a minimum-security prison with a lovely view of the freeway. You can still dream about all the places you’ll travel when you get parole.

Capricorn (Dec 22 – Jan 19)

Who’s that waving his finger in your face? Why, it’s that guy you used to supervise before your job was outsourced. Now you’re wearing stonewashed jeans and sitting at a tiny workstation in a row of cubicles that never ends. What happened to your Gucci suits and private corner office?

Aquarius (Jan 20 – Feb 18)

A security guard meets you at the entrance to your new workplace and whisks you away to a room where you undergo a complete makeover. When you’re finally escorted into your new office, you discover everyone looks exactly like you. Next on your newbie schedule … brainwashing!

Pisces (Feb 19 – March 20)

You hear a loud knocking on your door and open it to find three IRS men ready to rip into your tax return. They want you to account for every latte expense you listed and are suspicious of your self-employed income, too. Tearfully, you open the shoebox where you shoved your receipts to face the sorting and organizing you dread.

Your Daily Horoscopes for Sunday, October 20th

An intense cosmic drama impacts relationships this month, yet the sensible Taurus Moon reminds us to keep our feet on the ground. However, change is inevitable as the dynamic square between revolutionary Uranus and transformational Pluto culminates on November 1. The action is heating up and we must focus our attention on our long-term goals, even if mischievous Mercury’s retrograde turn tomorrow slows down our progress for the next three weeks.

Aries Horoscope

(Mar 21 – Apr 19)

You may resist any form of constraint today, but practicing self-discipline is a very effective strategy, even in small doses. It’s not that you are out of control; it’s just that you might agree to deliver more than you can handle now. Unfortunately, you could ruin a good thing if you accept too much responsibility without setting clearly defined boundaries. At least, think twice before saying yes.

Taurus Horoscope

(Apr 20 – May 20)

Trying to simultaneously juggle too many chores might impress someone at first, but everything changes if you can’t complete what you start. Effectively breaking down a large task into manageable components enables you to concentrate on each one separately. Although a major project may be overwhelming, you can accomplish more than you expect if you just take it one piece at a time. Inch by inch it’s a cinch; yard by yard it’s hard.

Gemini Horoscope

(May 21 – Jun 20)

Your playful approach to serious issues can be too much for someone else to handle today. A friend or partner might even complain that you aren’t working hard enough to hold up your end of the bargain. Nevertheless, you believe that you’re actually doing more than your fair share. If anyone comments on your lack of productivity, shrug it off. Don’t let a battle of dueling egos take over your day. Put forth your very best effort and your actions will speak for themselves.

Cancer Horoscope

(Jun 21 – Jul 22)

You could be so blunt with your opinions today that you accidentally hurt someone’s feelings. You’re a bundle of extremes now as you push out beyond the old limits. You imagine a variety of possibilities where others only see obstacles. You can explain exactly where they have gone off track, but being critical of everyone else won’t help anything at all. Sharpening your skills and improving your productivity enable you to lead by example, instead.

Leo Horoscope

(Jul 23 – Aug 22)

You might take the idea of being busy to a whole new level today, but secretly you would rather be relaxing. You want to have fun but you intuitively realize that the current temptations are acting as one big test of your willpower. It’s not wise to just give in to your irresponsible inner child now; you will feel better about yourself when you behave like a grown-up, instead. Whistling while you work inspires everyone around you to do the same.

Virgo Horoscope

(Aug 23 – Sep 22)

Regaining control of your finances and getting a handle on your spending might be tricky business today. There’s no need for impulsive behavior, especially if you are considering the purchase of a luxury item in order to add more beauty to your life. Unfortunately, buying something special may still leave you feeling emotionally empty now. Look beyond the material world to discover the fulfillment you seek. The most precious things in life are free.

Libra Horoscope

(Sep 23 – Oct 22)

Taking pride in your appearance comes as second nature to you and you like to look your best, no matter what you are doing. However, you could push vanity too far now as the radiant Sun in your 1st House of Personality aligns with unrelenting Pluto. You can inadvertently set up a power struggle if you don’t rein in your ambitions early on. It’s better to show support for your team today than to run out ahead of the pack.

Scorpio Horoscope

(Oct 23 – Nov 21)

It doesn’t matter much if your dreams are unrealistic; you’re not ready to give up on them just yet. Paradoxically, you’re quite optimistic about your future even if your progress has been delayed. You believe that your logic is clear, but it’s challenging to be productive now if your perspective is warped. If you ask your closest supporters for advice, make sure that you actually listen to what they say. A simple reality check may be all that you need to get back on track.

Sagittarius Horoscope

(Nov 22 – Dec 21)

Speculating about money and power is likely to be high on your agenda today. You might have an opportunity in front of you that’s hard to resist. Someone may offer to give you something for nothing, but rest assured that same person will return to collect on a debt or promise. If you don’t inflate your expectations now, you won’t have to deal with any disappointments later. Follow your intuition but keep your common sense close at hand.

Capricorn Horoscope

(Dec 22 – Jan 19)

You can feel your emotional intensity building up again, but today you are unsure whether to trust your instincts or your logic. Unfortunately, you may still be smarting from a recent run-in with an authority figure, yet you have enough new ideas now to turn a previous setback to your advantage. Don’t worry about winning or losing; honoring your intentions and doing your absolute best is good enough.

Aquarius Horoscope

(Jan 20 – Feb 18)

You want to examine both sides of a complicated issue now, but this mental exercise won’t bring you any closer to a solution. Fortunately, finding a lasting compromise isn’t nearly as important today as you believe. Just drawing everyone’s hidden agendas out into the open is enough mischief for one day since it clears the air of any residual tension. Turn on the light of awareness and let nature take its course

Pisces Horoscope

(Feb 19 – Mar 20)

Believing in yourself brings untold benefits because you realize you can’t always count on others to support you and your work. It might surprise you today if an associate takes the time to help you without expecting anything in return. Let down your guard; this isn’t the moment to prove how independent you are. Instead of feigning self-sufficiency and pushing others away, accept their generosity with an open heart and a smile.

Mercury Retrograde in Scorpio: Seeing in the Dark (Oct. 21st)

Mercury Retrograde in Scorpio: Seeing in the Dark

Dig deep to find new understanding and insight during this cycle…

Maria DeSimone   Maria DeSimone on the topics of scorpio, mercury retrograde, blogs, astrology

Although I’m one of those astrologers who feels we talk about Mercury Retrograde excessively, I must admit: this particular retrograde cycle has me mesmerized. I feel as if we’re on the edge of glorious potential if we can channel it the right way. Thanks to this Mercury Retrograde phase we all have an opportunity to understand something about our lives with razor sharp perception that is shrouded in obscurity.

Allow me to explain…

The principle of communication and thought is governed by Mercury. When direct, these matters are strong and free to express themselves. When retrograde however, Mercury must slow down and internalize thoughts and ideas more before expressing them – or else risk jumbling his words up in a frustrating mess.

In Scorpio we have an interesting complexity. Scorpio favors depths and reaches into the pit of what makes you (and I) most uncomfortable, forcing us to look at it … and heal from it. But now Mercury (communication) will be retrograde in Scorpio (intensity and the dark side). This presents an unusual opportunity in my opinion. Now, we must all slow down and review whatever it is that we keep a secret. What are we hiding from our own consciousness? What are we afraid to admit to ourselves? This Mercury retrograde phase promises to ferret it out of us and deliver a chance to reconcile with darkness in our lives that we either truly don’t see or have tried desperately to sweep under the rug.

Time to clean up

Scorpio loves exposing our dirty messes. Mercury Retrograde in Scorpio will force you to think about it … to see it. To have a conversation with your darkness.

This is quite a karmic retrograde. Saturn is in Scorpio and Mercury will pass over the degree of Saturn on October 29 allowing us to make a revision in our minds as to how we want to handle this “dark matter.” If you make the right decision for your personal growth then guess what? There is a new beginning in store. On November 3 — while Mercury is still retrograde — we’ll have a Solar Eclipse in Scorpio. In addition, at the time of the eclipse Mercury Retrograde will be conjunct the North Node — a point in Astrology that speaks of life direction and where you are meant to lean towards in order to get there. Karmically, the universe is screaming at us to open wide and swallow the nasty medicine that will give us a new perspective. The nasty medicine is the uglier part of your life … the part that you might take great pains to hide from others. From yourself. Once you call yourself out on it something powerful will happen. You will be unrestricted from the grip that this darkness holds over you in your life. You’ll really feel this freedom after Mercury turns direct on November 10. Trust me.

If the Astrology coming up with Mercury Retrograde connected to Saturn, the North Node and a potent Solar Eclipse in Scorpio doesn’t tell you there is an opportunity to begin anew and see the light once you take a life review of your darkness then I don’t know what will.

Taking a stand

Imagine yourself a child, trying to go to sleep. It’s dark and you are alone … afraid. Is the boogeyman with you? Is there a monster in your closet? You tremble in your bed with your eyes shut tight, clutching your blanket over your head. You are sweating, panicked. You can’t escape this fear.

Then, in an act of bravado you pull the blanket away from your eyes and open them wide, staring fiercely into the darkness (Mercury retrograde in Scorpio!). Everything is quiet. And then slowly, you look around. You realize something. The darkness isn’t such a bad place after all. It provides a discreet yet penetrating glimpse into your soul.

Besides, it’s the only way you’ll ever see the light of day.

Daily Cosmic Calendar for October 20th

Before you know it, Mercury will be doing back flips in Scorpio — starting tomorrow and going until November 10. While Mercury in reverse has some good attributes and can help you review and re-evaluate recent business ventures, health matters and key communications, it is also a cosmic signal to be more careful and cautious in these realms.  Utilize today’s early hours to make progress with financial plans and professional goals — working confidently via an inspirational, 72-degree tie from the Sun to Pluto (3:58AM) and the Moon in Taurus forming a supportive, 60-degree link to providential Jupiter (2:03PM). However, this latter aspect starts a void lunar uncertainty cycle that lasts until 9:15AM tomorrow.  Find time to enjoy an excursion in the great outdoors. Really absorb the psychic vibrations invisibly linking the birds, trees and sky. Cooking, baking, arts, crafts and hobbies — in moderation — are in style tonight while the Moon meanders in late Taurus and Mercury becomes virtually motionless. [Note to readers: All times are calculated for Pacific Daylight Time. Be sure to adjust all times according to your own local time so the alignments noted above will be exact for your location.]

Colors: Any mix of bright colors
Element: Water
Altar: Lay cloth of bright colors. On this day, let boy children below the age of puberty come into the house and lay upon the altar their most beloved toys, and hang pictures that they have drawn, and set on the altar what food they would offer, of their choice, to be provided by the house.

Invocation to the Sacred Boychild

I sing the song of the Boy Child,
Rising with the dawn,
Eyes full of wonder,
Spirit like a kite riding the winds,
Spirit flying among the gulls and swallows,
Golden with the light of all beginnings,
Explorer of the old seen anew,
You breathe possibilities.
By breath and scent, by bud and blossom,
By hands that play and feet that wander,
By eyes that see and touch the sky,
We hail you on this day,
Spirit of the Boychild
Who lives within each of us.
Spark of fire that will one day be a flame,
Rushing, tumbling brook that will one day
Become a river and roar into the ocean,
Leaping sapling who yearns to be a tree,
Climber of trees who will one day be
The climber of mountain peaks,
We hail you on this day,
Spirit of the Boychild
Who lives within each of us.
May you fill us with laughter
And with mischief, and wonder,
And the bright days of springtime
That rise with the dawn in our souls.

(All drum and dance in a circle, including those boy children who wish it.)

Current Moon Phase for October 20th – Full Moon

Full Moon

(waning/88% of Full)

A veil of self-absorption is lifted and suddenly you gain access to an unbiased view of others. This is a rare moment when you can see yourself objectively and become aware of whether or not what you want in your heart is actually beginning to manifest in your life. Traditionally, the Full Moon phase stirs emotion, and this is because when you “see” what is happening, you may become upset if you’re experiencing the “same ole, same ole” — rather than the things you would like. If the Full Moon phase is a disappointment, on the next New Moon it’s time to take creative action in the direction of your dreams.

Let’s Talk Witch – Rites of Passage

Witch-Spell-witches-and-wizards-18449264-394-498

Let’s Talk Witch – Rites of Passage

Rites of passage are rituals that mark important moments in the Wheel of Human Life. The birth of a child, coming of age, the death of a loved one, marriage, and eldership are five rites of passage that come to mind. At the birth of a child, Witches welcome his spirit into the world. This process often includes an introduction to all the Elements and a blessing.

When that child becomes of age, he has the right to become a fully recognized adult member of the community and begin participating fully in ritual (if he/she so wishes). The Coming Of Age ceremonies vary from culture to culture but generally include elements of learning, initiation, and social affirmation. At this time, magickal tools are often presented as gifts and he is now expected to be responsible for them.

The marriage (of Handfasting) ceremony allows the community to witness and support the adult’s choice of life partner and links two spirits into a harmonious one (in which neither individual is lost). A magickal marriage often includes jumping over a broomstick or sword at the end of the ritual. This rite marks passage into a new life together and also fosters fertility.

Eldership honors a person’s wisdom and contributions to the community. Croning ceremonies are usually celebrated when the witch has completed her second Saturn Return (at the age of about fifty-eight to sixty). Some things do get better with age, and magick is certainly one of them. The Neo-Pagan community does not view old age as a detriment; it is respected and the insights that old witches offer are gratefully accepted.

At the end of a witch’s life, her spirit is ushered on to its next form of existence. This ritual is typically called a Summerland rite. At the gathering, people open the circle for the spirit of that individual to join them in one last dance and song, and to say their farewells. In this way, the circle provides peace and closure, trusting that everyone will meet again in another life.

Colchester Oyster Ceremonies

Since 1196, when Richard I bestowed rights for the Colne Fishery near Colchester, business has been booming. Generations later, the same corporation still maintains control over the Fishery. Every September, the mayor and councilors open oyster-dredging season with great fanfare. A proclamation of 1256, declaring that “from time beyond which memory runneth not to the contrary” the rights have belonged to Colchester. The company then drinks a toast of gin and eats gingerbread, upon which the mayor lowers the first oyster-dredge thus opening the season.

On October 20, the famous Oyster Feast in Colchester is held at Moot Hall. The festival was a well-established custom by the 17th century, coinciding with the St. Dennis Fair dating from

1319. More than 400 people, often including the royal family, attend the feast, at which it has been reported more than 12,000 oysters have been consumed. This event is still held today in Colchester, Essex.

Recipe for One of my Favorites:

Oyster Stew

32 oysters, shucked

¾ cup clam juice

5 drops tabasco

Paprika to garnish

¾ cup cream

½ tsp. celery salt

6 Tbs. butter

Combine cream, clam juice, celery salt and tabasco in a sauce pan. Simmer over low heat. Do not boil. Bring water in the bottom of a double boiler to a boil. Reduce to a simmer. In the top part, melt butter and add the oysters, stirring with a wooden spoon to let them heat evenly until the edges curl. Pour the hot cream mixture into the oysters. Let the stew reach a simmer, do not boil. Ladle into four deep bowls and sprinkle with paprika. Serve immediately.

SUNDAY, The Day of the Sun

SUNDAY

The Day of the Sun

sunnandaeg (Anglo-Saxon)
sonntag (Germanic)
dies solis (Latin)
ravi-var (Hindu)
etwar (Islamic)
dimanche (French)
nichi youbi (Japanese)

Traditionally seen as the first day of the week by the ancient Hebrews and as identified by the fourth commandment (Exodus, xx, 8-11). This day was in ancient times dedicated to the Sun and later as ‘The Lord’s Day’. Sunday is traditionally a time for rest, reflection and worship. It is believed to be a lucky day for babies born on this day according to tradition as the child was thought to be safe from witches and evil spirits. Some born on this day are believed to have psychic or devining abilities. Any cures that are administered on a Sunday were believed to be more likely to succeed. In some parts of the British Isles (UK) there is a belief that announces that any agreements that are made on a Sunday are not legal as it will offend God to make any transactions of a day of reflection and dedicated to worship. In the USA this is enforced by the saying ‘ Never make plans on a Sunday’. In rural areas of the British Isles those employed for a new job on a Sunday would soon leave their post:

‘Saturday servants never stay, Sunday servants run away.’

It was also thought to be unlucky to put clean sheets on the bed on a Sunday along with cutting your hair or nails. Regarding music, choir singers who sang a false note on this day were according to a traditional English (UK) belief expected to have a burnt Sunday dinner. You could expect a busy profitable week ahead, especially if you were in business, if you found a pair of gloves on this day, and quite naturally very unlucky to be the person who had lost them according to a rural English (UK) belief. A prehistoric cairn marks the spot of Druid worship where a Christian settlement was created Slieve Donhard, near Newcastle, England. Set up by Donhard (a convert of St. Patrick), pilgrimages regularly visit the place of worship, high on the hill, as it is said that St. Patrick himself appears as a result of Donhard’s faith each Sunday of the year. As he appears before everyone, it is said that St. Patrick also leads the people in the mass. According to the English historian Richard Grafton certain dates of the month were unlucky as published in the ‘Manual’ in 1565. Days throughout the year were identified and of course could have related to any day of the week. The date was the most important point to consider. The work was reputed to have some credence with support given by astronomers of the day.

May the Goddess Shine Her Blessings Down Upon You This Sunday Morn’!

“A rose for a rose!”

Good mornings my little sunshines! How are you doing today? I am doing great. I have found out the less amount of sleep I get, the better I feel, lol! The Sponsors’ Wall turned out to be quite a challenge (more than I thought it would be, lol!). It wasn’t the Wall’s fault it was mine. I couldn’t find the right graphics I wanted. Then I got those. I hit our account to gather up all the names and guess what? The darn account (at two o’clock in the morn’) decided it wanted to act up. If you have a moment today, please check out the wall. Let me know what you think and for some unknown reason if your name is not on there, please let me know. I don’t want to leave anyone out.  And any future donations we receive, will be added to the wall. It would be wonderful if we had two or three Walls of Sponsors, wouldn’t it?

Well, check out the Wall, please! I have got to run for now and get this publication out of here. I hope everyone has a beautiful Sunday and enjoy!

Luv & Hugs,

Lady A
