Jupiter/ThursdayThursday, the day of Jupiter, is good for all forms of increase and expansion, be it in the realm of money, career, power or joy. Jupiter rules over fulfillment of objective, most usually those that are socially orientated. He is also potent for leadership, conscious wisdom, creativity, extending one’s influence in the wider world, idealism, justice and the law, authority and altruism. Jupiter’s influence extends over marriage, permanent relationship (business and personal), fidelity, loyalty and male potency (in both the human and the animal kingdom). Jupiter can lead to excesses, such as greed and gluttony, but can also paradoxically be used for banishing these.

General Meaning: Something is starting to rot and it is time to repair the damage. In the world of human affairs, indulgence and corruption grow like weeds in an untended garden; they must be faced squarely, and rooted out through bold action. Eliminating corruption — and the sloppiness that leads to it — is one of the most ennobling of all human enterprises. Correction of flaws in the system clears the way for fresh, new beginnings.
The time has come to become lean and efficient. The weeds must be rooted out now, before the garden is overwhelmed. Fighting decay, sloppiness and corrupt agendas is not a simple matter; all steps must be evaluated carefully. Planning must precede action. Resist the temptation to strike out prematurely. Gather strength behind you, and summon your inner resources, because arresting decay is no simple task. When you do act, make your strike as precise and clean as the path of the surgeon’s knife

Ice Runes are most commonly used for questions about struggle, conflict, and achievement. Gebo means gift, and like any gifts, the rune may be understood on many levels. Gifts are generally positive things, for both the giver and the recipient. In many cultures however, gifts and favors carry with them an obligation to respond in kind. It is for this reason that gifts, and hence the rune Gebo, are frequently symbolic of friendships, marriages, alliances, mergers, and other bonds between people or organizations. Gebo is a strong rune and the unions represented are strong as well. Moreover, Gebo is not reversible, as true friendships are not easily undone. |

From a modern point of view, this great reunion — which includes every personality that you have ever been and every soul that you have done deep work with — reunites to consciously complete the process. In a way, we symbolically celebrate this returning to center every year on our birthday.
In personal terms, the Judgment cards points to freedom from inner conflicts, and so clear a channel, that the buried talents and gifts of past incarnations can come through an individual in this lifetime. This card counsels you to trust the process of opening yourself, because what emerges is of consistently high quality. You can effortlessly manifest as a multi-dimensional being, and assist in evoking that response from others

Today’s possessive Scorpio New Moon energizes your 8th House of Shared Resources, highlighting a business or personal relationship that takes center stage as the specifics of a commitment are negotiated. But discussions can be tricky now because strong emotions might turn combative. Fortunately, logic will prevail if you remember that losing your temper won’t help your cause. Think strategically instead of just trying to get your way at any cost.

The passionate Scorpio New Moon draws energy to your 7th House of Relationships today, agitating an emotional struggle with someone who can be as bullheaded as you are now. Although being more flexible than usual can defuse the situation, you’re both likely to have strong opinions. Don’t fall prey to your own impulsive desires; you’ll be happier if you take the high road by showing your willingness to compromise.

Sometimes you excel at avoiding issues that can positively impact your daily routine. However, you may be ready to start a new exercise program or diet with today’s New Moon in your 6th House of Health and Habits. Just make sure that your resolve matches your enthusiasm. Don’t try to improve everything all at once; create a manageable plan so you don’t fall short of your goals.

The powerful Scorpio New Moon increases your romantic desires as it stimulates your 5th House of Love and Creativity. You want to present a more passionate side of yourself today and may be very serious about making others understand what you’re feeling. Ironically, you could try so hard that your intensity gets in the way of your message. Fortunately, you can lighten up the energy by being more playful. You’ll have a better shot at reaching satisfaction if everyone is at ease.

You may have big ideas about what you want to accomplish at work today, but the inflexible Scorpio New Moon in your 4th House of Home and Family uncovers pressing domestic responsibilities. You might be overly concerned that these personal issues could hijack your professional aspirations, but surprisingly they could give you more energy than they take. Don’t resist what you have to do because a methodical approach will enable you to do it all.

You might try to reclaim your power and make some last minute changes to your schedule. But it won’t be as easy as you think because it’s difficult to break commitments without creating a whole new set of problems. Today’s rigid Scorpio New Moon activates your 3rd House of Immediate Environment, reminding you to follow through on previous promises before unnecessarily making your life even more complicated.

Make the most of today’s perceptive Scorpio New Moon in your 2nd House of Money by planning your finances for the next few weeks. It doesn’t matter if your cash flow is in good or bad condition; you benefit either way by creating a sensible budget. Just keep in mind that you could make a significant error if you take any shortcuts. Take your time and think through your assumptions; it’s better to be safe than sorry.

You may believe that your wishes can come true today as the New Moon in your sign plants seeds of intention in your 1st House of Self. But a difficult Mercury-Pluto aspect could turn a casual desire into an obsession if you don’t temper extreme emotions with a more calculated and logical approach. Go ahead and ask for what you want, but then let go of your attachment to the outcome. Paradoxically, relaxing your grip on the reins will actually give you more control in the long run.

You may feel as if a phase of your life is nearing conclusion, but this is really a sign that new opportunities are around the next corner. The mysterious Scorpio New Moon in your 12th House of Destiny opposes your key planet Jupiter, making the current transition even more significant than you realize. Just don’t expect your natural optimism to make up for a lack of work. Scaling back your expectations and working harder should help you get what you want.

Today’s controlling Scorpio New Moon in your 11th House of Social Networking encourages you to reserve your participation in a group until you are sure that your intentions are aligned with theirs. Don’t be overly casual about your involvement with friends and associates now, for they could change the direction of your current trajectory. Rather than going along with the crowd, establish your own path based on what’s most important to you.

Your career is most likely your main focus today as the potent Scorpio New Moon spotlights your 10th House of Public Status. You are wise to seriously consider your options prior to initiating any new plans because spending energy on a project that distracts you from your real goals is a waste of time. Trust your intuition now; it will steer you in the right direction.

You are resistant to being talked out of your opinions today with the penetrating Scorpio New Moon falling in your 9th House of Beliefs. You think that you can see through the veils of illusion and into the inner core of reality, but all is not exactly as it appears. The Moon’s opposition to optimistic Jupiter makes it easy to convince yourself that your ideas are facts. Be vigilant and make sure your goals are realistic before finding yourself too far along a road that’s taking you in the wrong direction.
If you read yesterday’s calendar entry carefully, you know that the dark-of-the-moon time-period of the month is in effect this morning and until the New Moon occurs at 12:57PM PDT. The key is to finish old business in the first part of the day as Mars forms a supportive, 60-degree alliance with Saturn (2:39AM PDT), Mercury parallels Pluto (4:15AM PDT), the Moon in Libra is void from 5:19AM PDT until 8:09AM PDT (when the Moon enters Scorpio), Venus parallels Ceres (6:21AM PDT), the Moon unites with Juno (9:02AM PDT), Venus makes a 30-degree tie to Saturn (10:35AM PDT), and Mercury makes a frictional, 45-degree link to Pluto (12:29PM PDT). Here are seven fairly important alignments – most uplifting, empowering and productivity-enhancing – but they are all encouraging you to complete enterprises that you already have been working on for weeks or months. Once the New Moon occurs (activating 4 degrees of Scorpio at 12:57PM PDT), the usual rule of thumb is to leap ahead with bold plans across the board and especially associated with in-depth research and investigative work. Causing a potential challenge just a few hours later is a sharp Venus-Mars square in fixed, power signs (3:24PM PDT). Love vibrations take a turn for the worse and social affairs may seem more subdued and turbulent than usual. A Sun-Neptune parallel (7:36PM PDT) opens the gates of psychic attunement while Juno trine Chiron in water signs (10:25PM PDT) is a notable boost for emotional empowerment. These two evening sky patterns are magnified as Pallas re-enters the universal air sign of Aquarius (8:34PM PDT) until February 11, 2012.

The New Moon in passionate Scorpio arouses deep emotions. We may become hungry with desire, riddled with doubt or embittered with discontent that could seem like more than we can handle. Trying to bury these feelings is tempting, yet they provide the fuel required to make positive changes. Eliminating unhealthy beliefs, behavior and individuals that stand in the way of fulfillment is sometimes a painful task. However, the secret of tapping into Scorpio’s deep well of resources is to understand that we sometimes have to let go to in order to grow.
The New Moon in passionate Scorpio takes us to the heart of desire, often arousing thoughts and feelings that can be frightening or inappropriate. But this is the season to face the demons of our fears and accept the truth of what we’re really hungry for. The rawness of these feelings releases emotional power that can be applied intelligently to overcome obstacles and begin fulfilling our deepest needs.

you should strike out on new paths,
rather than travel
the worn paths of accepted success.”

As with any method of cleansing, intention is the key–before you begin, you need to be focused on the process of cleansing. So as you cleanse your crystal, think about what you are doing and how this action is releasing unwanted energies.
BRUSHING: A soft brush such as a makeup brush or a paint brush is good for removing dust that can build up on surface and delicate crevices of the stone.
PHYSICAL CLEANSING: A little mild detergent mixed with water in a bowl, followed by a thorough rinse in clear water, will make crystals sparkle. (Don’t use water if they are water-soluble crystals!)
RUNNING WATER: Hold your crystal under running water for a few minutes. It may need longer if it’s been working hard or hasn’t been cleansed for a long time. If you feel that it needs a lot of time, place the crystal in a bowl of water in your sink and let the water run into the bowl for as long as necessary.
MOONLIGHT: Leave the crystal in moonlight, especially in a full moon, or leave it out during a new moon.
BURNING INCENSE OR SMUDGE STICK: The smoke from frankincense, sandalwood, and sage is cleansing. You can burn either incense or a smudge stick (A small bunch of dried herbs burned during Native American cleansing rituals.
EARTH: Bury the crystal in the earth–when you unearth it a week or more later, it will be born anew. Different traditions round the world apply this technique in varying ways. One method is to bury it during a Full Moon and unearth it on a New Moon.
CRYSTALLINE ENERGIES: Place the crystal on an amethyst bed, on a quartz cluster, or inside a geode and allow the crystalline energies to cleanse and clear it. A large amethyst bed can be like a vacation for your crystals.
The question of how long you should leave them is a little open-ended. Crystals are like people–how long do you usually need to refresh and revitalize yourself? To know when a crystal is ready to work again, use your intuition–also, look for brightness and color returning to the crystal, which should no longer feel “clammy.” Once you are used to working with crystals, you will find it easy to know when they are ready to go back to work.
SOUNDS: Chanting, drumming, or playing Tibetan bells or cymbals can clear unhelpful vibrations.
SUNLIGHT: You can cleanse your crystal by leaving it in sunlight and also dry your crystals in the sun after washing them (Caution: Quartz crystals, especially crystal balls, will focus the sun’s rays and so can be a fire risk take appropriate precautions.)
BREATH, LIGHT OR REIKI: Breathing over your crystal helps to cleanse it –focus your mind, heart, and being through your breath, connecting your inner being to the outside. Reiki an also be practiced on crystals, and a meditation technique involving a visualization of light can be used, too. Still your mind and picture a bright light flowing from your brow chakra to the crystal in your hand, washing over it then filling the crystal. When it completely glows with light, slowly bring your focus away from the crystal and back to our surroundings.
You can see when a crystal needs cleansing–it loses its sparkle, brightness and even color, and may feel sticky in your hand. Dust is drawn to crystals because of their electric properties, adhering to them through an electrostatic charge. This alters their natural healing abilities, reducing the number of photons of light reaching the crystal. Regular cleansing prevents a buildup of dust.
The other reason crystals have to be cleansed is that they pick up energy when we are working with them, either from ourselves or from others. They will even pick up energy from people in a shop and, in fact, may have been handled by any customers before you. There is nothing wrong with these energies–they’re not “good” or “bad”–it’s just that they’re not yours, and it’s your energy the crystal will be working on or with to achieve its healing effects.
A pendulum gives you a physical representation of your natural inner knowing. It consists of a piece of metal, wood, or crystal hanging on a chain or string. A crystal pendulum requires less effort to work with when you start, as crystals magnify energy, which makes tuning into them simpler and their answers more obvious. When you choose your pendulum, don’t think about it too much–simply stand in front of a selection and pick the first one you notice. As with choosing crystals, you need to trust your instincts.
Dowsing is a natural and ancient human ability, possibly the oldest form of divination. We know that people have been dowsing since before recorded time, as the earliest writings talk of dosing in a matter-of-fact way. Today dowsing is used by therapists in many fields, as well as by water and oil companies throughout the world It can be done with a pendulum, rod, r forked twig, but a pendulum is the most portable and straightforward to work with when dowsing over a person.
Are You Wicked Enough? Exploring the Archetype of the Wicked Witch…
![]()
Author: Gray Lady
The Wicked Witch is a powerful archetype of unrestrained women power. She is a dark and ugly, self-serving loner who cackles at the misfortunes of others. She wields the power of the dark side of nature and can be seen at the end of every story flying off on her own high above the world of others. She has few mundane concerns other than eating local children and enslaving others.
Upon examining her taboo past-times, we can find our own power hiding within…
She is always a loner. How often do you see a coven of “Wicked Witches”? She doesn’t have a best friend to spend her time with. She has no one to judge her and no one to question her.
She is always dark and ugly. She is never surrounded by light. She chooses to be in the dark. Does she choose to be ugly? Who Cares?
Because she certainly does not.
Her looks and cosmetics are trivial. She always has a wart because why bother getting it removed? Concerns for looks are social concerns to gain status and acceptance.
The wicked witch needs neither. She is her own acceptance and her status is outside of normal society.
She is always self-serving. If you showed up on her doorstep starving, she would ask, “what can you do for me?” If you tried to reason with higher ethics or the charity of a deity like Jesus, she’d tell you to go ask Jesus for food. She already knows she’s “damned” and cares nothing for ethics.
We cringe at her archetype because her eyes always ask the same question: “What is it you really want?” Morals and ethics aside, if you could have anything… what is it?
Somewhere in her cauldron is the way to get anything, but in her humble life is the answer. We cringe because we know that in self-knowledge comes the answer that everything you have worked for is not what you really wanted all along.
She knows that if you really achieved all your mundane goals, you wouldn’t really be happy. So when anyone comes knocking on her door looking for favors, she knows that no favor is going to cure the world or your life… so for a petty quick fix for your pathetic life, what is it that she gets out of it?
She finds humor in others’ suffering. She is always seen cackling at the conundrums that people get themselves into. She has given up pity for other people running the rat race. They are to her … entertainment.
She has great knowledge of animals and spirits within the dark side of nature. Whether it’s their magickal qualities or where to find them in the forest, she always knows. She lives side by side with the darker animals.
Animals always surround the hollow in the woods. The cat and the owl are her familiars. She doesn’t “command” them because they do what they do for her willingly.
She has few mundane concerns. She never starves to death. Does the Wicked Witch ever ask for a mansion? A new wardrobe? Does she go to the doctor? Her concerns are in the realm of the spirit, far beyond the material focuses community she lives in.
She is always flying high above and journeying on her own. She has her own agenda and vacation plans that no one else ever understands. Her personal activities are not meant to be understood because your approval of her plans is unnecessary and unsolicited.
She eats children. Although highly overrated, it’s not the child of flesh that she eats, but the child of innocence. It’s a perfect world where children roam free, hold hands, and sing songs. Everyone stands in line to play on the playground and the snacks are always divided evenly. But then we grow up and realize that our snacks are not even.
“Fair” and “right” are spiritual ideals. We innocently hold on to the hope that there will someday be peace in the Middle East as we flip-off people on the high way and curse behind our neighbor’s back. The Wicked Witch eats our childlike view of the world and scoffs at our ideas of fairness and peace. She burst our bubble by throwing realistic pessimism in our face.
Our “treats” will NEVER be divided evenly and someone will always suffer… Get over it.
She enslaves others. Her ability to enslave others is her scariest quality. As lay people, we are scared by her entrapment because those who seek her are willingly enslaved and become stuck. She never chains them down and they could run away at anytime… but they never do. Somehow, they are bewitched by the thought that she may provide for them.
They never realize that you cannot achieve the magick that you seek within from someone else. But what makes her so wicked is that she allows them to be enslaved by their own greed. That’s their concern, not hers.
Plastered in the Christmas commercialism is the jolly belly of the Holly King smiling back from the outside of a McDonald’s cup, knowing that he is resurrected each year in the cyclical wheel of Holidays.
His older sister, the wicked witch, sticks her head out every year and laughs at the millions of Halloween costumes that mock or hide the darker side of human nature. She is still around because of the power she wields.
No one knows her name, but they all seem to take comfort in believing that she is different than them… except for the few people who feel her power in their blood. They are the people who don’t “sympathize” with her, but see and feel her as a guide, a challenge, and a threshold guardian.
I now realize my own pull toward her wisdom. I now understand that every time I’ve wanted “Wicked Witch” paraphernalia, what I wanted was to “be” her, to feel her power.
Every time I see her face cartooned on Halloween decorations, she asked the same question:
“Are you wicked enough to find out what you really want in life?”

The Scorpion wanted to get to the opposite shore of the English Channel. And so he sought out various creatures that could assist him in the endeavor. Each time he was turned down, in part because of the fear of who he was and in part because of what he was capable of doing to others.
At any rate, he finally came to Frog with his entreaty. At first Frog turned him down like all of the others before him. But Scorpion kept pleading, as he knew this was his last chance to reach the opposite shore. Finally Frog relented and agreed to carry scorpion across the channel on his back. When they got to the middle of the channel, Scorpion stung Frog with his venomous tail.
Aghast, Frog cried out to Scorpion, “Why did you sting me, for I am dying and we shall both surely drown now?”
Scorpion responded, “You knew the nature of my personality before you agreed to help me!”
There are several reasons why I offer this analogy as a preface to my early morning thoughts. Imagine that, an Irishman resorting to the art of Triad (grin) . To begin with, there has been a great deal of talk over the years by modern pagans about “pagan community”. The reality is that such a community is a long way from becoming a valid entity. It is a concept that is rife with the insecurities of those who claim to adhere to such a concept. Many modern pagans were once members of the Abraham faiths, in particular, Christianity. And in many cases, such folks have parents, siblings, relatives and friends who still are Christians or what have you. And that is all good.
However, this has created a consistent undercurrent of insecurity because these modern pagans feel an overwhelming need to either hide their current pagan beliefs from their families and friends or to frantically seek approval from such folks.
To my mind, if folks have doubts about their self-professed beliefs, then perhaps they should reassess their desire to follow said beliefs. For to be true to others, one must first be able to be true to yourself. And such insecurities are detrimental to any efforts to build a genuine community whether it be modern paganism or what have you.
In view of such insecurities, there are many modern pagans — either individuals or groups — who feel that their primary mission as pagans is to engage in outreach with other religions. In spite of the fact that there are over four-hundred established religions in the modern world, this generally means that these modern pagans ignore four-hundred of these religions and reach out primarily and in most cases, specifically to the Christian religion.
At this point, I would like to point out that in this age of electronics that genuine communications skills are falling to the wayside. The current generation is losing the art of one-on-one communication due to their reliance on such electronic devices.
And as such, there will inevitably be the “me, me, me” types who will assume they know what I am trying to convey here. They will not seek clarification, because they already have the ‘answers’ to my thoughts… at least within their own self imposed limitations they will think so.
To such folks, I can only shrug my shoulders and hope that one day they will actually grow spiritually and thus find the genuine wisdom to understand a concept that is greater than themselves.
It will be said that that damn Crick hates Christians. My response would be “of course not”, but like the scorpions, I am aware of their own established behavior.
It will be said that that damn Crick is against community outreach. My response would be “Of course not”, but it should not be a primary and driving force in order to validate my pagan beliefs. And such outreach should be “attempted” with an expectation to meet with an equal amount of reciprocity… reciprocity of which is clearly absent from the Christian community. Yes of course there are exceptions to every rule, but it is realistically not the norm.
What then to my mind should be our primary goal you may ask? Well actually there are two very general goals if the modern pagan community is ever to reach a degree of cohesion and thus validity as a genuine community.
The first is to accept the realities of your chosen path. There are very few, if any, real “Masters” in modern paganism. The regurgitation of over the last fifty years of “101 Paganism” should be clear confirmation of this. And besides, we are all students over the course of our lives.
It is this denial of being a student that gives birth to the plethora of twenty and thirty-year-old ‘masters’ that modern paganism is noted for. It is also this denial that precludes modern pagans from acknowledging the pagan paths around the world that have been in place for many, many generations. And finally, it is this denial that sets modern pagans upon those who actually may know more than just the basic 101 scripts that defines modern paganism.
This is why the word “Elder” creates such a conflicting morass amongst modern pagans. For to define the word “Elder” in the manner that it is used among pre-modern pagans is to admit that one may actually be a student and not the “wise know it all’ that so many modern pagans strive to present themselves as, no matter how subtlety it is done. Yes, I know. Let the denials begin. It is to be expected when insecurities cloud reality. Besides, in this modern generation, everyone is right and no one is responsible, which is why we have the current me, me, me mindset in the first place.
Anyway, moving on.
The modern pagan community needs to find the strength to grow beyond such self-centered concepts of me-ism. Each community, pagan or otherwise is the sum of its members. If the modern pagan community is ever to become a genuine community, it must first learn to be true to its own tenets. Many within the modern pagan community will mouth the words acceptance and diversity. Sounds like good tenets to establish a community by doesn’t it?
And yet as soon as a free thinker such as myself proffers an “opinion” that is divergent from some other pagan, well … the ugliness rears its head. Hateful and disparaging words are hurled at will, in an attempt to hurt the author of such individual thoughts, and in extreme cases, threats of physical violence are made. Are such reactions, which in all reality are based upon personal insecurities really conductive to creating a sense of cohesiveness in a budding community?
And finally, we need to find the strength to break out of the modern concept of “me-ism” and reach out to other pagans in this fragile community without preconceptions and/or preconditions. As an umbrella community, we do not walk in lockstep with each other. The modern pagan community, unlike pagan communities of olden times which consisted of folks of identical beliefs and usually of small enclaves such as covens, tribes and the like, is now a morass of many, many different paths.
We need to reach a genuine understanding of the modern interpretation of pagan community that goes beyond just mouthing the words.
Perhaps when we develop genuine outreach amongst ourselves then we can validate the inordinate amount of energy that some modern pagan individuals/groups employ towards the Christian religion as being based on something other than an attempt to give in to ones personal insecurities.
Before I stop here and grab my first cup of java of the morning, please keep in mind that the preceding thoughts are simply the personal opinion of one old witch who has more years behind him then he has in left in front of him. And before you allow the “me -ism” to take precedence in your thoughts, please understand that my sole purpose in this rant is to spark the fuse of thought… it is an attempt to ignite a blaze of introspection that in the end will open the door to a understanding that is greater than you or I.
Now, where is that cup of java?
