What Planets Are Retrograde June 2023?

What Planets Are Retrograde June 2023? So Many Are Returning

What Is A Retrograde?

A retrograde takes place when a planet gradually slows down its speed in the sky. Each of the astrological planets (aside from the two luminaries, the sun and the moon) have a retrograde cycle. The inner planets (i.e. Mercury, Venus, Mars) station retrograde more frequently than the outer planets (i.e. Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, Pluto), due to how quickly they whip around the zodiac. When a planet stations retrograde, it can cause delays, slowdowns, and turnarounds pertaining to what that planet signifies. Mercury (aka the messenger) retrograde, for example, tends to be a more challenging time for processing information, communicating effectively, and portraying accurate details. This tends to be a more noticeable retrograde than when an outer planet like Pluto stations retrograde, because of Mercury’s proximity to Earth.

What Planets Will Be Retrograde June 2023?

This month, a total of three planets will be retrograding through the skies: Saturn, Neptune, and Pluto. However, since two of these retrogrades involve outer planets, their effects won’t be as noticeable. It’s that one inner planet that you need to concern yourself with shaking things up a bit more.

What To Expect From June 2023’s Retrograde Planets

Saturn Retrograde (June 17 – Nov. 4)

On June 17, Saturn — the planet of boundaries, rules, and structures — will station retrograde in the mutable water sign of Pisces. While Saturn retrogrades take place annually for about four months out of the year, this is the ringed planet’s first time stationing retrograde in the sign of the fishes in almost 30 years. As a result, the Pisces-ruled house in your birth chart will experience some major restructuring, especially if you’re currently experiencing your Saturn return.

In Pisces, Saturn won’t implement the same, rigid boundaries it’s been used to over the last several years. Instead, Saturn will work to refine and improve the area of your chart where structure tends to be the most absent. Since Pisces is the idealistic, aspirational sign of the zodiac, Saturn’s time in this sign will be all about actualizing your dreams and making them a reality. However, as the retrograde unfolds, you may notice a slowdown in this area of your life. From June 17 until Nov. 4, you’ll be called to reconsider how you’ve been pursuing your hopes and visions. In order for a wish to come true, hard work and discipline is required, and this retrograde will send you back to the drawing board to make some much-needed adjustments.

Neptune Retrograde (June 30 – Dec. 6)

As the month comes to a close, Neptune — the planet of deception, fantasy, and illusions — will also station retrograde in Pisces. Fortunately, this is nothing new for the Pisces-ruled house in your birth chart, since the blue planet has been stationing retrograde in this sign every year for the past nine years. And, since Neptune is one of the outer planets, its retrograde period is much less noticeable. What you may notice, however, is a bit of clarity in the area where you tend to be the most naive. Since Neptune is the planet that can cause confusion and uncertainty, its retrograde tends to soften these effects. So, if you’ve been struggling to see things clearly in the area of fantasy, dreams, and ideals, the fog may temporarily lift over the next five months.

Strawberry Moon: Full Moon in June 2023

Watch for the Full Strawberry Supermoon!

The full Strawberry Moon rises on Saturday, June 3, 2023. Will it be pink? What is the true origin of the name “Strawberry Moon,” and what are some other June Moon names? Learn more!

When to See the Full Moon in June 2023

On the evening of Saturday, June 3—just after sunset—look towards the southeast to watch the full Moon rise gently above the horizon. There, it will appear large and golden-hued.

June’s full Moon will reach peak illumination at 11:43 P.M. Eastern Time. See the Full Moon Calculator for your local time.

Why Is It Called the Strawberry Moon?

The full Moon names used by The Old Farmer’s Almanac come from a number of places, including Native American, Colonial American, and European sources. Historically, names for the full or new Moons were used to track the seasons. Today, we think of Moon names as “nicknames” for the Moon.

June’s full Moon—typically the last full Moon of spring or the first of summer—has traditionally been called the Strawberry Moon. While strawberries certainly are a reddish-pink color and are roundish in shape, the origin of the name “Strawberry Moon” has nothing to do with the Moon’s hue or appearance, despite the evocative imagery (shown in the artist rendering below). A Moon usually appears reddish when it’s close to the horizon because the light rays must pass through the densest layers of atmosphere.

This “Strawberry Moon” name has been used by Native American Algonquian tribes that live in the northeastern United States as well as the Ojibwe, Dakota, and Lakota peoples to mark the ripening of “June-bearing” strawberries that are ready to be gathered. The Haida term Berries Ripen Moon reflects this as well. As flowers bloom and early fruit ripens, June is a time of great abundance for many.

Alternative June Moon Names

Many cultures over time have used different names for the 12 full moons experienced each year. Usually, they’re not based on a color, but on a common activity that takes place that time of year.

Blooming Moon (Anishinaabe) is indicative of the flowering season, while Green Corn Moon (Cherokee) and Hoer Moon (Western Abenaki) suggest that it’s time to tend to young crops.

Other names highlight that this is a time of new life: The Tlingit have used the term Birth Moon, referring to the time when certain animals are born in their region (the Pacific Northwest). Egg Laying Moon and Hatching Moon are Cree terms that also hint at a time of many animal babies.

Alternative European names for this Moon include the Honey Moon and the Mead Moon. June was traditionally the month of marriage, and is even named after the Roman goddess of marriage, Juno. Following marriage comes the “honeymoon,” which may be tied to this alternative Moon name!

The June Full Strawberry Moon

The sweetest full moon of the year is June’s full moon, commonly known as the Full Strawberry Moon. While the full moon itself is inedible, despite how round and delicious it may seem, the Full Strawberry Moon marks strawberry harvesting season in North America. Most Algonquin tribes understood that it was a sign that wild strawberries were starting to ripen and ready for the harvest. Delicious though ripe strawberries may be, June’s full moon has another name that’s even sweeter.

What could possibly be sweeter than strawberries? Try honey. In Europe, June’s full moon was actually known as the Honey Moon. Other European names for it included the Hot Moon, signifiying the beginning of hot summer days, or Hay Moon, because of the first hay harvest. Those names aside, European names for the Full Strawberry Moon overall tend to have sweet, romantic connotations – a good example is the name Full Rose Moon. June’s full moon is also called Mead Moon, which could refer to the mowing of meadows during summer, but there’s another more romantic interpretation as well.

In Europe, it’s traditional to gift mead or honey to a newlywed couple during their first moon of marriage. The name Honey Moon itself has now become a common word in the English language, used to refer to the honeymoon holiday that couples go on right after they’re married. It used to be that newlyweds in ancient Europe would go on a sweet romantic holiday around the time of June’s full moon, because the moon phases were seen as a symbol for the phases of a marriage, with the full moon signifying the fullest and happiest part, the wedding itself.

The Full Strawberry Moon is tied to romance and marital bliss all around the world. In India, for example, June’s full moon is celebrated as Vat Purnima, where married women perform a ceremonial ritual to show their love for their husbands. Vat Purnima is based off a legend from the Mahabharata, about a beautiful woman, Savitri, who is determined to save her husband, Satyavan, who is doomed to die an early death. Savitri fasts for three days before Satyavan dies, upon which she successfully negotiates with the King of Hell for the resurrection of her husband. Similarly, married women nowadays dress up in beautiful saris, fast, and tie a thread around a banyan tree seven times to wish that their husbands will lead long, happy lives.

It is no wonder, then, that the Pagans also call June’s full moon the Lovers’ Moon. This is an excellent time to work on the connections in your life, romantic or otherwise, by showing affection to your loved ones and allowing yourself to be vulnerable to encourage intimacy in your relationships. During this Honey Moon, some Hoodoo practitioners will even use honey in magic rituals to sweeten other people’s feelings towards the practitioner. An example of a sweetening ritual is to pour honey into a saucer containing the target’s name, before lighting a candle on top of it. Another example of a honey ritual is to tie two poppets together with honey between them, in order to heal a broken relationship between two people. Honey rituals aside, true magic may happen when you invest your time and effort during this month to work on your relationships and appreciate the love you have in your life.

JUN. 24: TEMPLAR HOLY DAY. In the Roman calendar this day was thought to be Summer Solstice. The Church renamed this pagan holiday to St. John the Baptist Day. Templars revered it highly. On Jun 24, 1314 a mysterious band of knights joined Robert the Bruce of Scotland on the battlefield making his victory at Bannockburn possible. These knights could only have been the a troop of disbanded and now in-hiding Templars who had fled to western Scotland. St. John’s day was used by Freemasons in 1717 to found the first public (non-Scottish) Order of Freemasonry in London. Masonic teachings are said to descend from the esoteric Christianity of Templarism. St. John the Baptizer was beheaded because he wouldn’t give in and sacrifice his principles. This is a Templar ideal, as is the constancy and regularity — order out of chaos — of the solstices and equinoxes. So for both reasons, Christian and “pagan,” we observe this day.
– Feast of the Sun (Aztec)
– Midsummer Bride (Swedish)

Good Day WOTC Family and Friends Here is a Thought for Today

I was very lucky to have a mom who I inherited some of my abilities from and was not upset when I manifested being able to talk to and see those who have crossed the veil at about age 3-years-old. My mom was a Christian but supported me in taking a different spiritual path when I reached 19-years-old. When my healing ability manifested around age 11-years-old she again did not try to stifle it or tell me not to use it. When she had knee replacements done and cataract surgery for each eye she asked me to help her with the pain from the former and to help her heal faster from both. She never tried to stop both of my paternal great-grandmothers from teaching me about medicinal properties of herbs. Unfortunately, I have forgotten most of what they taught as I got older and had a family of my own to take care of.

My heart goes out to those of you whose parents were not as accepting of different abilities as my mom was. I hope one day you all can come out of the broom closet and be accepted for who you are and the spiritual path you chose to follow.

All Signs

A lovely week ahead! We will be jovial, laid back and eager for friendly banter and gossip. Many will have a strong sense of adventure because everyone will be upbeat and ready for fun. However, there will be a build-up of energy as the week unfolds due to the Full Moon on Saturday. But lo! What news from yonder modem breaks? By Friday, romance is in the air! Note: The main influence for everyone this week is that we will reap what we sow. We will see how our lives are the result of our past decisions and actions; and that our future will be the result of what we are doing now. For example, I’m fat — not because it runs in the family. I’m fat because no one runs in the family.

Aries (March 21-April 19)

This is a busy, fast-paced week. Grab every chance to enjoy short trips, conversations with others (especially siblings and relatives) as well as explore opportunities to study and learn new things. Competitive sports are in the picture for many of you. You will have lots of energy to explore social outings, the arts and fun get-togethers with others, including children. Continue with your desire to redecorate and make where you live more attractive because you can do this, especially because an unexpected financial windfall might help. By the end of the week, you will enjoy entertaining at home. In fact, romance related to a family gathering will blossom for some. Woot!

Taurus (April 20-May 20)

Your focus on money, cash flow and your possessions is strong this week, which is why you might shop more than usual or discover ways to boost your income. Many of you are collectors and love antiques. This week, not only will you appreciate the beauty of your daily surroundings, you will also see how much love there is in your world. This is humbling and gratifying. Do what you can to keep the peace at home because increased activity and chaos are unavoidable. Later in the week, you will feel restless and will encounter some surprises. Take care of financial loose ends so that you’re not caught off guard.

Gemini (May 21-June 20)

This is a powerful time with the Sun in your sign. You will feel a buildup of energy as the week progresses because by Saturday, the only Full Moon opposite your sign all year will take place. This could mean that certain aspects of a close relationship will come to a head or some kind of resolution. Meanwhile, you will attract money to you this week, which is one of the reasons you will buy beautiful, elegant, luxurious items. (Perhaps impulsively.) It’s a busy, active week. You feel the need to get out and travel and talk to others. In particular, you want to share your ideas because you’re enthusiastic about something!

Cancer (June 21-July 22)

This is an excellent week to shop for wardrobe items for yourself because you feel good about your image. This positive self-image is also why it’s easy for you to be so friendly and charming with others. Although you’re working hard to earn money, you’re also spending it freely! (Looks like it’s time to open your wallet and let out a few moths?) Later in the week, someone younger, perhaps a friend or a member of a group, will surprise you by doing or saying something you least expect. Or perhaps you’ll meet a real character? Something unexpected will occur. Whatever it is, by the end of the week, it will bring a resolution related to your job or your health.

Leo (July 23-Aug. 22)

This is a popular week! Make an extra effort to get out and schmooze with others because this will be a rewarding experience for you, especially since you have a strong need to see others, and also to be seen. You might be more involved with clubs and organizations, as well. One of the reasons you’re hot to trot is fiery Mars is in your sign boosting your energy. Mars will also give you the urge to make the first move and reach out to others. Meanwhile, because your physical energy is high, you’ll get a lot done. Nevertheless, at the end of the week, a boss, parent or someone in authority will surprise you. When this curveball arrives, think before you respond. Guard against a knee-jerk reaction. Instead, consider how you want to look. Be wise, tolerant and understanding. It’s classy.

Virgo (Aug. 23-Sept. 22)

This is a lovely week because you will make a great impression on others! This is why now is the time to press your advantage or advance your agenda because doors will open for you. Your interactions and friendships with artistic people will be a joy this week. In fact, things will be so cozy that for some of you, a friend might become a lover. Meanwhile, later in the week, travel plans might suddenly change. They might be cancelled or delayed, or perhaps you will suddenly have to travel when you did not expect to do so? Others might be surprised with legal or medical matters or something related to education. Stay tuned!

Libra (Sept. 23-Oct. 22)

You are the most social sign in the zodiac. You enjoy being in the company of others and you always know how to charm people. This week is no exception! It’s your good fortune that bosses, parents, teachers, VIPs (and even the police) will look sympathetically at you. They’ll be ready to help you. Meanwhile, you might be surprised about some financial news related to inheritances, shared property, taxes or debt; and because of this, you will need the support of someone in authority. How timely! Yes, you’ll come out smelling like a rose. Work-related colleagues are also on your side.

Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 21)

Expect a few surprises this week from partners, spouses or close friends. (Especially next weekend.) Someone might want to change the arrangement? They might want more freedom in the relationship? Be prepared for something. Meanwhile, travel for pleasure excites you because you have romantic ideas and hopes about getting away somewhere, somehow. Some of you will also fall in love with someone who is “different”. In fact, it is this very difference that is intriguing to you. Actually, you’re right on track because for the first time in over a decade, lucky Jupiter is sitting in your House of Partnerships this year, promising warm, rewarding, joyful relationships. Fingers crossed!

Sagittarius (Nov. 22-Dec. 21)

At the end of the week on Saturday, the Full Moon will be in your sign. This is the only time all year this happens. Therefore, you might notice some tension building up between you and those who are closest to you – partners, spouses and close friends. Fortunately, offsetting this, strong feelings of affection and romance are kindled within you this week. (Admittedly, this attraction might be for a third party.) Meanwhile, a work-related surprise, also later in the week, might catch you off guard. Pay attention to everything you say and do to avoid accidents. Be careful. Be cooperative. Be considerate.

Capricorn (Dec. 22-Jan. 19)

This will be productive week for you! Because you’re motivated to work hard, you’ll get as much done as possible. In addition to which, relations with partners and close friends will be warm and mutually supportive. Note: Parents need to be cautious toward the end of the week because it’s an accident-prone time for your kids. Be aware of this. Meanwhile, some surprises and unexpected changes might take place this week regarding social plans, vacations and sports events. Love at first sight is possible. Impromptu social outings and dates might occur. Stay light on your feet so that you’re ready to say yes at a moment’s notice. Why miss the fun?

Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 18)

This is a playful, fun-loving week for you. Take time off to enjoy social outings, sports events, fun activities with kids and romantic tete-a-tetes. Relations with work colleagues are excellent. In fact, for some of you, a work-related romance might blossom. Admittedly, Mars opposite your sign can create a bit of tension with partners and close friends; however, because you’re in such good spirits you will handle this with patience and savoir-faire. Nevertheless, late in the week, something unexpected on the home front will take place. This could be surprising family news. Guard against home accidents. Be smart and prepare for spontaneous get-togethers. Stock the fridge so that you’re ready for anything.

Pisces (Feb. 19-March 20)

Home and family are your primary focus now. Many of you are also involved with a parent more than usual. Meanwhile, you’re working hard. (In fact, you’re working so hard you’re busy delegating to others.) Nevertheless, set aside time for fun outings, social occasions, picnics, days at the beach, and fun activities with kids because romantic opportunities abound for you this week! Many of you will discover new love. Others will feel that existing romantic relationships are rejuvenated in a special, affectionate way. Those of you involved in creative projects or the arts will be productive because you are in touch with your muse. Caution by the end of the week at the time of the Full Moon because this is an accident-prone time for your sign. Pay attention to everything you say and do. Be aware of everything around you.

Aries (March 21-April 19)

This beginning of the week you probably feel like nothing but listening to the plans of others so you might have some troubles with authoritative persons in your life.

You will be annoyed and irritated but you’ll have to accept it because this is the way things work for you at the moment. Acting on your impulses will only make things a lot worse.

Taurus (April 20-May 20)

Today you should be using any moment you have to vent and relax but you should be avoiding any tiresome distractions because you might not be in the best condition.

Not to mention it is just the beginning of the week and there are so many days ahead for you. You should also be avoiding persons that send you frustration and negative energies.

Gemini (May 21-June 20)

Today all natives that are working in creative environments will be benefited while those with more scientifically occupations will have quite a hard time at work.

Some natives will burst with imagination while others will prefer to dream with their eyes open. It is a great time to go out and simply take a walk around the city just like a tourist would.

Cancer (June 21-July 22)

You will have quite an agitated day, both practically and emotionally speaking. However, you will be just fine and a little ruckus will only make you feel even more alive.

The only thing that could make matters worse is you succumbing to your feelings of uncertainty. So don’t worry unnecessarily if you don’t want to have even a harder time.

Leo (July 23-Aug. 22)

Today is going to be quite an important day for some natives in terms of relationships as some of them might put the foundation to a more serious commitment while others might do the exact opposite thing and break something that hasn’t been working for some time now.

Today you are going to benefit from great energy and a good general health so don’t worry if you have any physical work to do or many places to run to.

Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 21)

Today you might want to cool off a bit and take things easy. There are not many activities probably planned for you today so take advantage of the slow day and do something for yourself.

Also, you should be staying away from any kind of excess, especially those related to drinking, from alcoholic beverages to simple juices.

Sagittarius (Nov. 22-Dec. 21)

This day will show you that some things, you thought were broken or not going in the right direction, are actually where they are supposed to be.

This acquired peace of mind will also help you open up to certain opportunities coming your way. You should just be worried whether you have enough time for so many activities that are announcing.

Capricorn (Dec. 22-Jan. 19)

This day will bring some financial rewards to you, whether you are working hard for something and now you are receiving your paycheck, or simply that you receive a loan you’ve given a long time ago.

Make sure you don’t spend all that money as soon at you receive it. Try to be as correct and responsible at least for the following days.

Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 18)

Today you will find yourself a bit conflicted between your usual tendency of listening and caring for the opinions of others and the harsh truth that someone is actually lying to you.

You will probably have a hard time dealing with such news and it will take you some time to recover from this havoc. The only caution is for you not to turn all revengeful.

Pisces (Feb. 19-March 20)

Today you might feel a bit overwhelmed by all the demands others seem to have from you and you will have a tendency to act all irritable and annoyed.

Maybe you should think everything through because it isn’t the fault of those people and you shouldn’t be acting like this with them. You will be quite productive during the day and probably extremely tired late in the afternoon.

From MoonGiant.com

The Moon’s current phase for today and tonight is a Waxing Gibbous phase. Visible through most of the night sky setting a few hours before sunrise. This phase is when the moon is more than 50% illuminated but not yet a Full Moon. The phase lasts about 7 days with the moon becoming more illuminated each day until the Full Moon. During a Waxing Gibbous the moon rises in the east in mid-afternoon and is high in the eastern sky at sunset. The word Gibbous first appeared in the 14th century and has its roots in the Latin word “gibbosus” meaning humpbacked.

Gods – Plutus, Greek God of Wealth

Greek God – Plutus

Plutus, which is the Latin spelling of Ploutos, is the god of wealth. He was supposedly born on the Greek island of Crete and is the son of a local hero named Iasion and the goddess DEMETER, who is the goddess of harvest and fertility. He is often depicted as a boy carrying a horn-shaped container of wheat called a cornucopia.

Here are some interesting facts about Plutus:

Plutus Was Originally the God of Agricultural Wealth

The reason Plutus carries wheat was because he was originally meant to only represent wealth in terms of farming output, such as an abundance of crops. But he eventually came to represent wealth in general.

Plutus Was Blind

The Greek god ZEUS blinded Plutus when he was very young, so that he would not just bless wealth onto good people and those who were deserving of it, but onto everybody. Famed ancient Greek playwright Aristophanes once wrote a comedy about Plutus, in which he regains his sight and thereafter only bestows wealth onto those who actually deserve it.

Plutus Was Also Handicapped and Had Wings

Plutus was not just blind, but he was also handicapped. This was to explain why wealth sometimes took a long time to come. He further had wings, which was meant to represent why he left a lot faster than he came.

Often Associated with Pluton

Pluton, which is also written as Plouton, is a Greek god similar to Plutus. He is the god of hidden bounty, and like Plutus, he is often carrying a cornucopia.

Plutus Is Often Depicted as an Infant in the Arms of Goddesses

Many depictions of Plutus show him as baby, sitting in the arms of either TYKHE (TYCHE) — who is the goddess of good fortune — or Eirene (Irene), who is the goddess of peace. This was meant to show that wealth rarely comes alone. It often comes hand-in-hand with good luck or peace.

Plutus is Often Confused with Pluto

While their names may sound similar, Plutus is very different from PLUTO, who is the god of the underworld.

Goddesses – Selene, 2nd Generation Greek Titan

Selene – Greek Titan Goddess of the Moon

Selene, goddess of the moon, truly represented the moon itself to the Greeks. Although she counts as a goddess in her own right, Selene often gets associated with archer goddess, Artemis, who is also a moon goddess. These two goddesses have additional association with HECATE.

Selene is a Titan goddess. Titan gods and goddesses were actually the divine beings that preceded the OLYMPIAN GODS and goddesses. The first of these divine beings emerged from the primordial and originally called GAEA mother and URANUS father.

Titan Gods and Goddesses and Cross-Cultural Origins

Among the first generation of the Titans were PHOEBETHEMIS, and CRIUS. Some of the stories about these GODS AND GODDESSES may have been borrowed from cultures like Mesopotamia, ancient Egypt, and Persia. (This area was known as the ANCIENT NEAR EAST.)

Selene, however, was not directly related to Uranus and Gaia. Rather was the child of Titan goddess and god, Theia and HYPERIONEOS, goddess of the dawn, and HELIOS, god of the sun, were Selene’s siblings.

SELENE FACTS

Name(s): Selene
Rules over: The Moon
Title: Titan Goddess Of The Moon
Gender: Female
Symbols: Crescent (Lunar), Torch, Bull Horns
Sacred animals: Horses
Items: Chariot, Billowing Cloak
Parents: Hyperion and Theia
Consort: Endymion
Other significant others: Retinue: – Hesperus, Astra. Siblings: – Helios and Eos
Children: Fifty daughters (The Menai) and Narkissos to Endymion;

Pandia, Nemea and Ersa to Zeus;

Four Horae to Helios; Mousaios

Roman name: Luna

Selene’s Distinction Among Moon Goddesses

Additionally, although the ancients considered Hecate and Artemis counted as lunar goddesses, only Selene was the moon itself. She is said to have driven the moon chariot. This heavenly vehicle got its power from white horses. It drove across the sky, providing the night with its light.

The moon goddess love a mortal man named Endymion. It is said that Selene watched him while he slept beside his cattle. According to some legends, the pair had 50 daughters. One account even makes Endymion and Selene as the parents of NARCISSUS, the hunter of the ancient world who felt infatuated by his own beauty.

An Affair With Zeus

Although most often associated with Endymion, some accounts tell of Selene’s affair with ZEUS. This pair also had quite a few children, according to some retellings of the legend. In other stories, it is said that it was Zeus himself who gave Endymion immortality.

This divine magic trick made Endymion forever young. However, it came with a cost. Endymion was given the choice (by Zeus) of when he would die. The mortal opted for eternal sleep, thus granting him his youth, but it was a youth he could not enjoy. Selene visited Endymion each night in his place of rest near Mount Latmos.

Titans, Shamans, and Mystery Religions

Scholars who study the TITANS say that some of the rituals and stories associated with gods and goddesses like Selene existed to support ancient shamanistic practices.

As Selene’s Greek identity morphed into its Roman one, Selene became LUNA. Although some legends say that she as well as Hecate and Proserpina were triune goddesses, that wasn’t necessarily the case. Rather, the identities of these goddesses became one over the course of time.

Luna/ Selene was the moon goddess. As such, she was revered as on of the most important deities for agriculture. Luna/ Selene was given a temple on Palatine Hill. A mystery cult revering Luna/ Selene rose up. This would support the assumption that the stories of goddesses like Luna/ Selene were part of ancient shamanistic rituals in daily life

These rituals started first in families and clans, according to THE MET, and then were adopted by society itself until they were celebrated nationwide within the city-states of the ancient world.

The Purpose of Mystery Cults

Mystery cults in the ancient world have an air of secrecy to them. According to some scholars, these religious cults existed so that people could perform birth and death rituals.

It should additionally be noted that Selene sometimes merges with Diana/ARTEMIS as the same goddesses. In this form, she then also becomes the goddesses of the hunt. However, even as the goddess of the hunt, she is ever and always still a moon goddess.

Her Depiction

Selene (and her counterparts) are depicted in ancient art wearing a moon symbol (usually crescent.) While she is most often shown as riding horses, some portrayals have her driving an oxen team. When this happens, her crescent moon is formed from the bull’s horns.

Who was the Greek Goddess of the Moon?

The Greek goddess of the moon was Selene. She was often depicted as a beautiful woman with a crescent moon on her forehead, riding a chariot pulled by two horses or oxen.

In Greek mythology, Selene was the daughter of the Titans Hyperion and Theia, and the sister of Helios (the sun) and Eos (the dawn).

Selene was also associated with the goddess Artemis, who was sometimes referred to as the “Mistress of Animals” and was known to hunt by moonlight.

Moon Alert

There are no restrictions to shopping or important decisions today. The Moon is in Virgo.

Aries (March 21-April 19)

You might hear surprising news that can benefit your health today. Keep your ears open. Unexpected changes that impact your work might also occur. Be aware that this same unpredictable influence might trigger an unexpected situation with a pet. Be vigilant.

Taurus (April 20-May 20)

Parents must be vigilant with their children today to make sure they come to no harm. Remove any potential hazards, especially if toddlers are in the picture. Meanwhile, social situations are also unpredictable. For example, you might receive a surprise invitation or “solid” plans might be cancelled.

Gemini (May 21-June 20)

Get dressed. Stock the fridge. Tidy up because surprise company might arrive at your door. (You’ll feel so much better if you’re not caught off guard.) Or perhaps, something else will change your home routine? A small appliance might break down or a minor breakage could occur. Could be anything.

Cancer (June 21-July 22)

Goddess – Tykhe, also known as Tyche, Greek Goddess of Chance, Fate and Fortune

Greek Goddess – Tykhe, also known as Tyche

Tykhe, also known as Tyche, was the Greek goddess of chance, fate and fortune. She represented not only the positive aspects of these characteristics but also the negative ones. The ancient Greeks thought she was the reason for unexpected events in their lives, good and evil. For example, if someone had much success in life without having to try hard, people said that Tyche blessed him at birth. When someone worked hard but still had bad luck, they thought this goddess was responsible.

Who Were Tyche’s Parents?

According to Hesiod, a Greek poet, she was the daughter of OCEANUS and TETHYS while others thought that ZEUS was her father. People from various Greek regions worshiped Tyche, but she was especially popular in Athens. Athenians believed that this goddess favored their city. Some of her other famous sites of worship included temples at Argos and THEBES.

Tyche’s Appearance & Traits

When the ancient Greeks honoured her beneficial traits, they usually referred to her as Eutychia or Eutiykhia, goddess of prosperity, success and good fortune. Tyche was usually pictured with wings, a regal staff and a crown. However, many images also showed her with other items. These objects related to various traits. For example, when she was pictured holding rudders or a wheel, it meant that she was directing world events.

If she had a horn of plenty, she was a giver of abundant prosperity and wealth. When Tyche was balancing on a ball, it symbolized unstable fortune that could come and go, just like a ball might roll in any direction. In later times, she appeared wearing a blindfold and was shown with other assorted items that suggested risk and uncertainty.

In Rome, this goddess was known as Fortuna. To the Romans, Fortuna was much more important than Tyche to the Greeks. Additionally, Fortuna was not pictured with wings or a ball, especially in later times. This suggests that the Romans only saw her as a goddess of good luck who blessed mankind with beneficial fortune.
