4 July 2024 Current Moon Phase for the Southern Hemisphere

Southern Hemisphere

4 July 2024

The current moon phase for July 4th, 2024 is the Waning Crescent phase.

On this day, the moon is 27.86 days old and 3.35% illuminated with a tilt of -37.619°. The approximate distance from Earth to the moon is 380,993.99 km and the moon sign is Gemini.

The Moon phase for July 4th, 2024 is a Waning Crescent phase. This is the phase where the moon is less than 50% illuminated but has not yet reached 0% illumination (which would be a New Moon).

In this part of the moon cycle, it is getting closer and closer to the Sun as viewed from Earth and the night side of the Moon is facing earth with a decreasingly thin crescent being illuminated.

The waning (shrinking) crescement Moon will rise at around midnight, transit the meridian after sunrise, before setting after noon. This phase is best viewed 1-2 hours before sunrise and is a great time to see the features of the Moon’s surface. Along the illuminated crescent you can see the craters and mountains of the moon casting long shadows.

The Waxing Gibbous phase, like all moon phases, will last for just over 7 days. The actual length will vary because of the elliptical shaped orbit of the moon. During this Waxing Gibbous phase the moon will rise in the east in the mid- to late-afternoon and will be high in the eastern sky at sunset.

Assuming it’s a clear night, the Waxing Gibbous moon will then be visible through most of the night before setting just before sunrise.

Fun fact: the illuminated side of a waning crescent moon is always pointed eastwards, towards the sunrise.

Moon Alert

There are no restrictions to shopping or important decisions today. The Moon is in Gemini.

Aries (March 21-April 19)

Don’t go looking for trouble today because it can easily find you. Steer clear of arguments with authority figures, siblings, relatives and neighbours. Likewise, parents must be patient with kids who are having hissy fits or meltdowns. It’s one of those days.

Taurus (April 20-May 20)

Avoid power struggles with bosses, parents and authority figures, especially the police today because things could get nasty in a New York minute. You might also have financial challenges or someone older might create problems for you, especially a friend or a member of a group.

Gemini (May 21-June 20)

This is a poor day to ask for permission or approval from parents and authority figures. Their response will likely be, “Talk to the hand.” Meanwhile, be smart and avoid controversial topics when talking to neighbours, siblings and relatives because you might be surprised at the response. Take it easy.

Cancer (June 21-July 22)

People might be grumpy today, including you. This is not necessarily the case but there is a strong chance because the vibes are sort of negative today. Be smart and avoid power struggles about financial matters, earnings, cash flow and something you own. Postpone these discussions for another day.

Leo (July 23-Aug. 22)

Today you’re obsessed about getting to the bottom of something. You will leave no stone unturned. However, this could create an argument with a spouse, partner or friend. In fact, a dispute with a friend about shared property might make things even worse. Stay chill.

Virgo (Aug. 23-Sept. 22)

By nature, you’re an excellent researcher because you have a wonderful eye for detail; plus, you have an organized mind. Today is the perfect day to ferret out any kind of hidden information or discover solutions to old problems because you won’t give up until you find what you’re looking for. Be polite with authority.

Libra (Sept. 23-Oct. 22)

Steer clear of controversial subjects today because these discussions will discourage you. In fact, discussions with friends and groups might also become obsessive about something. Admittedly, you might be right in the middle. Don’t go overboard. And don’t promise more than you can deliver.

Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 21)

Power struggles with police, parents and authority figures might take place today unless you pull back a little and demonstrate grace under pressure. Don’t get involved! Arguments about shared possessions or shared property might be nasty. Stay chill.

Sagittarius (Nov. 22-Dec. 21)

Quite a few people are a bit obsessed today, which is why this is a poor day to discuss controversial subjects like politics and religion. You might even be at odds with a partner or close friend about a domestic issue. Distance yourself from these difficulties. Stay positive. (And happy.)

Capricorn (Dec. 22-Jan. 19)

Discussions about inheritances, shared property, taxes and debt might become intense today because people are obsessively focused about what they want. This could create difficulties for you with someone at work. Possibly even difficulties related to your health? Avoid these problems if you can.

Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 18)

Be patient with partners and close friends today because it’s easy to go off track and be at loggerheads. Social occasions might be challenging. Likewise romance or something to do with your kids might also be problematic. Look for a win-win solution. Don’t be part of the problem.

Pisces (Feb. 19-March 20)

You might be focused about work-related issues today (or something to do with your health or even a pet). If so, you can use this energy to accomplish a lot. Or, this strong, even compulsive energy, could get you in trouble. Be patient with family today. Look for the good in a situation.

If Your Birthday Is Today

Actor Tom Cruise (1962) shares your birthday today. You’re philosophical, authoritative and observant about your surroundings. You’re an idealist who is interested in people. This is a year of completion and endings. Take inventory of your life. It might be time to let go of people, places and things from the past that held you back.

Aries (March 21-April 19)

This is going to be a day with great potential for natives who prepared their lessons beforehand but a difficult day for all the other natives who are still struggling or who decided to leave things to faith.

Today is in no way a day where you leave things unattended or just hope for the best, because you will be punished for that.

Taurus (April 20-May 20)

You are going to be quite humorous today and always prepared with a good word and surely those around you will appreciate that.

Meanwhile, you will also have to struggle a bit to maintain your optimism, especially in case you don’t really have a plan B to meet the changes that are going to take place later on.

Gemini (May 21-June 20)

Cancer (June 21-July 22)

You seem to be quite energetic and don’t really mind what you have to do today, regardless of whether you used to like this activity or you dread it.

Maybe there is a bit of love going on and cause of this good mood of yours. Just stick to this and make sure you count your blessings because this announces to be a good day.

Leo (July 23-Aug. 22)

The current disposition won’t ask you too many things about your plans for the day, especially not before managing to ruin them.

So be careful what you plan on doing and if things are not important, maybe it’s not such a bad idea to postpone them. However, if you do have something important to solve today, make sure you also have a plan B.

Virgo (Aug. 23-Sept. 22)

You need not count too much on technology today because it will probably act a bit funny around you. Try to be as dynamic as usual and mind your own business but at the same time keep an eye on things you aren’t sure of.

In terms of communications, always check whether your emails have been sent properly, especially in the first hours of the morning.

Libra (Sept. 23-Oct. 22)

If you have been postponing a certain event for long now, for instance a visit at the doctor or dealing with some bureaucratic things, maybe it’s time you confront your fears or anxiety and just go with it.

You will be surprised by the fact it might not be as bad as you’d imagined, plus the very enjoyable relief you will feel afterwards.

Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 21)

Try not to repeat some past mistakes today, especially because we are referring to some practical matters.

Meanwhile you can also work in a very productive manner if you just leave other thoughts aside and this will only require just a bit of motivation from you. Other than that, quite a peaceful day without too much trouble if you temper yourself.

You can also read this special Scorpio Daily Horoscope.

Sagittarius (Nov. 22-Dec. 21)

This is a day when you can dream and aim high and chances are something out of the ordinary might even happen if you really want it to and work towards it.

So keep your mind open and just show others how passionate you are about what you are doing or how fiercely you want something. Who knows who will help you with that.

You can also read this special Sagittarius Daily Horoscope.

Capricorn (Dec. 22-Jan. 19)

This is going to be a day of paying debt, either physical one, like money or a more spiritual one, like help you were given and that you should now return.

Make sure that no matter how busy today is for you, you’ll remember who was there for you when you needed it and that you do the same now, even offer to help if you are not asked.

You can also read this special Capricorn Daily Horoscope.

Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 18)

You need to let some things cool down and not continue with the same argument all over again. In some respects, you already did what you could do while in some others, no matter how much you will continue trying, little result will come as some people will never understand or change.

Just mind your own activities and try to relax.

You can also read this special Aquarius Daily Horoscope.

Pisces (Feb. 19-March 20)

The situation might spin a bit out of control emotionally, especially if you let it and chances are this is what you are going to do.

Whether this is on purpose or just because you are trying to find justice for yourself or for someone close, be sure that you will take things to a different level, a level you will find hard to turn back from.

Gardening Moon Calendar – July 2024

Source: mooncalendar.astro-seek.com

Please read this first:

1) Moon Phase x Moon Zodiac Sign:

Please keep in mind, that Gardening by Moon Phase and Gardening by Moon Zodiac Sign are two different/independent biodynamic systems and they might give you different or contradictiory gardening recommendations.

  • a) Each Moon Phase (except Full Moon and New Moon) lasts about 1 week
  • b) Each Moon Zodiac Sign lasts about 2.5 days

Try to experiment with these two systems to find which recommendations suits you the most.

2) Tropical (Astrological) x Sidereal (Astronomical) Zodiac:
(1-2 days difference in Leaf, Fruit, Root and Flower days)

There are two different zodiacs for determining the Moon Sign:

  • a) Tropical zodiac (Astrological) is based on the seasons – Vernal Equinox is fixed as 0° Aries (The 1st Fruit day)
  • b) Sidereal zodiac (Astronomical) takes into account Precession of Equinoxes and shifts 0° Aries back by cca 1-2 days. Maria Thun who was an authority on biodynamics was using this Sidereal zodiac

Try to experiment also with these two zodiac systems to find which system suits you better.

The Full Moon for this month will occur on Sunday, July 21st. The New Moon is earlier in the month on Friday, July 5th.

The Full Thunder Moon of July

July’s full moon is called the Full Thunder Moon, after the frequent thunderstorms that roll in during early summer. Thunderstorms are more likely to form in humid environments during summer because of the moist, hot air rising from the ground to the higher, colder parts of our atmosphere. The Full Thunder Moon is, therefore, a warning sign for a surprisingly dangerous time of the year.

Did you know that you are more likely to get hit by lightning twice in your lifetime than win the Powerball lottery, and that summer is usually when most lightning fatalities happen? As the Full Thunder Moon rises to prominence during the warm summer months, people are more likely to be taking part in outdoor activities, which increases their risk of being hit by the frequent thunder and lightning strikes that happen during this period. Everyone knows to avoid trees and bodies of water during thunderstorms, but that basic precaution alone is not enough.

According to experts, you should head inside a safe building immediately when you hear thunder, no matter how safe you think you are. Lightning can strike from up to 10 miles away, and nothing can protect you when you’re outdoors. Wearing rubber soles or crouching down low will not stop lightning from hurting you. Lying down on the ground is an even worse idea, as it’ll make you even more vulnerable to currents traveling through the ground.

If you do get caught outdoors with no way to make it into a building safely, sheltering in a completely closed, all-metal car is an option as long as you don’t touch anything metal. You should also avoid open areas such as fields. Just keep moving as fast as you can until you reach shelter. If you happen to be in a group, spread out so that if one of you gets struck, the others can provide emergency CPR and other help. Remember that it’s completely safe to touch a person after they’ve been struck. Lightning-related deaths are most often caused by the heart stopping due to the sudden surge of electricity, and so it is very important to administer CPR to a lightning strike victim immediately.

Ultimately, the best way to avoid being caught outdoors in a thunderstorm is to take a little of your time each day to monitor the weather situation, and have backup plans for shelter if you’re heading outdoors. That said, being indoor doesn’t necessarily guarantee that you’re safe either. Make sure to stay far away from any plumbing, metal objects, electronic devices and equipment, or anything that might conducts electricity. Avoid windows or doors at all costs. Not even concrete walls and floors are safe, since they contain metal rods that conduct electricity, so never allow yourself to lean against concrete walls or come into contact with concrete floors. The risk of a strike remains for 30 minutes after the last flash of lightning or peal of thunder.

The Full Thunder Moon is a great time for you to brush up on your lightning safety knowledge and educate other people as well. Feel free to head to the wild outdoors to observe deers whose velvety antlers are growing out during this period – which is why July’s full moon is also known as the Full Buck Moon – but also make sure to take the necessary safety precautions.

All Signs

This week Canadians will celebrate July 1st and Americans will celebrate July 4th. Fortunately, it’s a great week to socialize and strengthen bonds between friends and family members. (It really is. I’m not saying this to sound patriotic.) Here’s the backdrop for these events: We have the Sun and Venus in warm, sensitive Cancer (who can’t throw anything away). Curious Mercury is in Leo, which will lend high drama to our conversations and daily antics. (“OMG! You had to be there!”) Meanwhile, fiery Mars is in Taurus, promoting eating good food – (too much, actually. Especially, that high-end Praline ice cream.) Of course, Jupiter is in Gemini for the next year and Saturn has one more year left in Pisces. Read on to see what’s in store for you. “Th-th-the, th-th-the, the.. That’s all folks!”

Aries (March 21-April 19)

Home and family are your strong focus this week, especially with a parent. You might redecorate and entertain. Family discussions will be about financial matters, perhaps about real estate or real-estate speculation? In fact, your considerations regarding spending money right now are surprisingly sober and conservative because you want guaranteed results for your efforts. You especially want to protect what you have. This is why before you act, you will be patient enough to do some careful planning. You will pay attention to details and make decisions that allow you to work patiently towards goals that will be fulfilled in the future. Oh yeah, you know what you’re doing.

Taurus (April 20-May 20)

This is a busy, social week! Your pace will be fast and filled with short trips, errands, appointments and conversations with neighbours, friends and family members. You’ll be on the go! Fortunately, fiery Mars is in your sign boosting your energy. (This blessing comes along only once every two years for about six weeks so be grateful. In fact, Mars will with you for three more weeks! Vroom, vroom!) One nice thing about this week is life will be agreeable for you. Your dealings with others will be pleasant and light. You might discover there is more love in your world than you had thought. You’ll also enjoy the beauty in your everyday surroundings. Sweet!

Gemini (May 21-June 20)

Life is good with lucky Jupiter in your sign for the first time in 12 years. This week the Sun and fair Venus are in your Money House, which turns your mind to cash flow and earnings; money in, money out; and probably, you want to buy something special. (Venus in your Money House will heighten your interest in beautiful clothes, jewelry, art objects plus, entertainment. “More bubby! Let’s live it up!”) Having said that, this same impulse will be tempered by the fact that Venus is lined up with Saturn, so these purchases will be probably be long-lasting and relatively practical. It’s a great week to learn and study something new; plus, you’re keen to talk to everyone. Lookin’ swell!

Cancer (June 21-July 22)

With the Sun in your sign, you’re in the driver’s seat. You’re ready to take charge, which you will do with diplomacy and charm because Venus is also in your sign. Mercury will promote moneymaking ideas and draw attention to what you really value in life – be it material, intellectual or spiritual. Mercury might make you shop more than usual. It will also encourage financial planning, which is not surprising because you are never casual about money. (You’re a saver.) Mars will pump your energy and your ego as you deal with groups this week. Work with others and look for a win/win solution. If conflict arises, use sports and physical activity to blow off pent-up steam.

Leo (July 23-Aug. 22)

This week Mercury is in your sign, making you keen to express your views to the world. Fortunately, people will listen because you will put a great deal of yourself into what you say. Naturally, your mind will be busy jumping from issue to issue very rapidly. Get out and take short trips to shake things up. Your capacity to learn is strong now, so do yourself a favour and sign up for a course or decide to learn something or study a new subject because you’ll enjoy this. Meanwhile, Mars at the top of your chart arouses your ambition, urging you to get things done! That’s nice because the results will please you and make your life easier.

Virgo (Aug. 23-Sept. 22)

This is a popular week! Enjoy schmoozing with others, especially creative artists. An older acquaintance might introduce you to someone you find attractive in a romantic way. You might also make travel plans with someone or explore higher education, publishing or something to do with medical or legal matters. Many opportunities are available for you right now because with Jupiter at the top of your chart (for the first time in 12 years), you’re experiencing a time of success! In the next 12 months, you can expect a promotion at work or some kind of public recognition or an award because you’re admired and acknowledged. (About time!)

Libra (Sept. 23-Oct. 22)

This week you’re thinking about your career, your role in society, and your reputation in your community. You might wonder if you’re going in the direction you want to go? Meanwhile, people notice you now and they admire you. They’re impressed by you, which is why you might be asked to take on increased responsibilities or given power in some way. Don’t worry you can handle this. Meanwhile, romance is favoured, especially with someone older or more established. This is also a good time for practical discussions about how to deal with wills, inheritances and shared property. A younger friend might have interesting input.

Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 21)

Get thee to an airport or jump in the car and start watching those telephone poles going by because you need a change of scenery! If you can’t travel, be a tourist in your own city. The bottom line is that you need to do something different from your normal routine. New mental activity! Stimulation and adventure! It’s a wonderful time to learn something new. However, publishing, writing and any involvement with the law or even medicine might also occur at this time. A new romance with someone who is “different” might also occur. Woot! Discussions with partners and close friends about practical issues, especially related to kids, are likely to happen. Lots to think about.

Sagittarius (Nov. 22-Dec. 21)

You can attract money and practical assistance as well as favours from others this week. You might also take a hard look at jointly-held property and anything that you share or own with someone else, including getting a loan. Very likely, assistance will come from an older family member, and in turn, it might benefit your home and family. Certainly, you’re working hard now because you want specific useful results. Despite this practical and financial focus, travel plans definitely appeal! (You know who you are.) Meanwhile, your closest relationships are warm and supportive right now. That’s a blessing.

Capricorn (Dec. 22-Jan. 19)

Many of you are making amazing strides with your health and with your job now. In other words, you’re getting recognition about your work or you’re feeling a greater sense of accomplishment and personal reward connected with your work. If this is not the case, do be aware that you can get a better job this year. Don’t settle for less. This is also an excellent week to practice a skill or hone a technique, perhaps with a musical instrument or in the arts or in sports. This is a strong week for you because serious discussions and focused effort will allow you to accomplish something; and you will like this. Serious discussions about relationships will go well. It’s a solid week.

Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 18)

This week is about your work or your job; or your health; or a pet. These are what hold your attention. Certainly, if you make an effort right now to tackle that To Do list, you will derive considerable satisfaction from doing things well. (This is good to know.) In fact, a work-related romance might spring up for some of you, perhaps with someone of an age difference. Meanwhile, start to get serious about vacation plans this year (or next), especially if you can include your kids because this is a great year to improve your relationship with your kids. Romance is favoured along with social outings, the arts and sports! (All that fun stuff.) Yay! This is what awaits you – get busy making things happen.

Pisces (Feb. 19-March 20)

Go after what you want this week. Do things that you find entertaining. Get out and have fun. Be open to flirtations and budding romance. That’s because all these exciting possibilities are waiting for you but you will have to get out of bed. In fact, romance with someone of an age difference is highly likely right now. You might even make the first move? This is because you’re a bit strident in your discussions with others while Mars in your House of Communications. Nevertheless, this is also an excellent time for mental work because you will be more attentive to details and you’ll want everything to be as perfect as possible. You will enjoy planning and having discussions with coworkers. It will please you if your life starts getting more tickety-boo!

Spell for Saturday – Remove a Love Spell

(YOU CAN COPY AND PASTE ANY SPELLS POSTED TO A DOCUMENT TO PRINT AND/OR SAVE ON YOUR COMPUTER)

LOVE SPELL WARNING: Love spells such as this one take the person who you want to love you free will/spirit away. What happens with a spell like this is the person will become obsessed with you to the point of possibly losing their job, which in turn can make them lose their home, automobile, friends, their family, etc. I have heard of people under love spells dying from not eating or drinking when they are not in the presence of the spellcaster 24/7/365. So, unless you want some who only loves you because of a spell you put on them then go for it. But if you want someone to love you because they feel that emotion towards you then please do not do this spell. The same warning goes for animals, birds, reptiles, or anything else that has a heart and can create a bond with someone.

June 29 and 30, 2024 Current Moon Phase for the Northern and Southern Hemispheres

Source: nineplanets.org

Northern Hemisphere

June 29, 2024

The current moon phase for June 29th, 2024 is the Waning Crescent phase.

On this day, the moon is 22.84 days old and 46.07% illuminated with a tilt of -37.45°. The approximate distance from Earth to the moon is 370,195.55 km and the moon sign is Aries.

The Moon phase for June 29th, 2024 is a Waning Crescent phase.

30 June 2024

The current moon phase for June 30th, 2024 is the Waning Crescent phase.

On this day, the moon is 23.71 days old and 36.33% illuminated with a tilt of -67.454°. The approximate distance from Earth to the moon is 371,214.98 km and the moon sign is Aries.

The Moon phase for June 30th, 2024 is a Waning Crescent phase.

Spell for Thursday – 2 Forgotten Rituals to Harness the Power of the Stars

(YOU CAN COPY AND PASTE ANY SPELLS POSTED TO A DOCUMENT TO PRINT AND/OR SAVE ON YOUR COMPUTER)

Witches often talk about the benefits of moon magic. They rarely talk about the energies we can harness from the stars. Although they are not as prominent as the moon, their energy can still be woven into countless spells.

The Stars are one of the most powerful elements of the Universe that governs us, our home and the Origin that gives us power. Their mystical light gives us peace and pulls us into deep states of tranquility, which makes it easier for us to invoke the energies that help us perform our craft. Each star is a fragment of the gods who are listening to our rituals.

The power of star magic was discovered by witches hundreds of years ago. The first known star spells can be traced to around the time of the collapse of the Roman Empire. These witches knew the magic of the stars, their movement in the sky and how to create the conditions to take advantage of their influences. They discovered that they could use them to invoke powerful love magic, especially in men.

Ancient cultures built many of their rituals on stellar movements. They were great astrologers and could predict future events with stunning accuracy.

The map of the sky and the trajectories of the stars were considered propitiatory for certain forms of witchcraft. Today, we know much more about stars, their location, constellations and their clustering patterns. Science gives us precise data, but ancient magic also knew what energy each constellation had and how to take advantage of it.

Creating a Wiccan Circle to Make a Wish Upon a Star

The idea of wishing upon a star is something that is traced in many legends and even pop culture references. However, few people are able to do it effectively. They believe that they all they must do is close their eyes and make a wish. You must actually practice a ritual with circle magic to make your wish come true.

Here are the steps that you will take.

Look for a place in a field on an arid plane. There should be no grass or vegetation. Use a stick to draw three circles in the sand.

The first will be the largest and it will engulf the other two. It will be a circle of fire that will burn steadily throughout the ritual. Say the following out loud: “It will be the power of my constancy and my will!”

The second will be a circle of red candles. You must say this as you draw it: “This will be the power of my body, vital, strong, vigorous.”

The third circle will be filled with blue candles: “Quiet for my life, I can communicate and feel proud of myself.”

Take a moment to thank the five elements on this magical night. Lie comfortably in the middle of the circles. Lay down in a couple blue and red cushions that you have brought with you. With your eyes open, start to gaze at the stars. Chase one with your vision. Then another. When you find one that catches your attention more than any other in the open sky, make a wish to it. Recite your wish softly, but remember that you are watching a “collection of stars.” There are more stars waiting to help you. You should thank all of the stars collectively for their help, but remember that you will only get helped by the first you made the request of. The others will merely serve as aides to their sister star.

Have faith that your wish will come true. You will become the best of friends with this star. Take a black and red box that you had prepared with an interior mirror and reflect the light of your star into the box. Ask permission to stay with you for a few days. You will feel its presence, energy, love, complicity, wisdom and help. You will know that it will be with you. As this happens, you feel it with all your heart and see the reflection. Then you must close the box.

The star will be with you, keeping you company for up to seven days. Then you will return to the place where you made friends and set it free again. It will enjoy sharing its power. During those days, you will feel the positive change that its energy brings into your life.

Love Spell Underneath the Star

There is a reason that many people seek romantic evenings on stary nights. Stars have almost aphrodisiac magical properties. This spell, which is done while observing a star, will make a man fall in love with you. It works very well.

Ingredients: a photo of him, his hair, mineral or spring water, a pink candle, a mirror.

First, choose a star in the sky to perform the spell. You have to locate it and remember it to know where it is in the sky. This spell must be performed outdoors.

Take all of the ingredients and place them on the ground. The photo and the hair under the mirror will be face up. Put the candle over the mirror.

You must be seated to see the star reflected in the mirror. The candle must be at the top of the mirror, so you can see it reflected at the bottom. Light the candle and say the following sentence with the intention of bringing the man you love closer:

“For the night sky, for the darkness that does not touch me, I ask you star of my heart to bring this man (say his name) to me. Let him fall in love with me, as the star falls in love with the night, that he cannot flee from me, that he only has eyes for me, so be it”.

Make sure to say this phrase several times, while staring at the star through the mirror. Leave the candle lit until it is finished. When it is about to burn out, drink the water and extinguish it by throwing it on the mirror. After that, leave the mirror outdoors all night. Get up before sunrise. You don’t have to give sunlight to the mirror. Put the mirror on your bed every night if possible. Keep his photo and hair in your underwear. Throw the remains of the candle on the ground.

It is a spell that does not fail. You can repeat as many times as you want but you have to choose the same star for it to improve the effectiveness.

June 27, 2024

The current moon phase for today is the Waning Gibbous phase.

On this day, the moon is 20.61 days old and 71.02% illuminated with a tilt of -71.073°. The approximate distance from Earth to the moon is 369,362.14 km and the moon sign is Pisces.

The Moon phase for today is a Waning Gibbous phase. This is the first phase after the Full Moon where the illumination of the moon decreases each day until it reaches 50% (the Last Quarter phase).

The waning (shrinking) gibbous Moon will rise after sunset in the east, transit the meridian after midnight, before setting after sunrise in the west.

During this phase, the illumination of the moon will go down from 99.% to 50.1%. Technically, the phase starts as soon as the Full Moon has passed, but it can be difficult to calculate and differentiate the first stage of a Waning Gibbous Moon from a Full Moon when 98-99% of the Moon’s surface is illuminated.

Fun fact: the word Gibbous was first used in the 14th century and comes from the latin word gibbosus which means humpbacked.

On this day, the moon is 21.64 days old and 59.76% illuminated with a tilt of -71.356°. The approximate distance from Earth to the moon is 369,402.12 km and the moon sign is Pisces.

The Moon phase for June 28th, 2024 is the Last Quarter phase, which is also sometimes known as the Third Quarter. In this phase, the moon has completed three quarters of it’s orbit around the earth and exactly half of the moon is illuminated and half is in darkness.

The Last Quarter phase comes roughly 3 weeks after the New Moon and this is when the moon has completed three quarters of its orbit around the Earth (hence the name, Last Quarter). The moon will rise around midnight on the eastern horizon, transits the meridian at sunrise, before setting at noon in the west.

The Last Quarter of the moon phase cycle happens on one day. It’s followed by the intermediate phase, Waning Crescent, and will become less illuminated every day until it reaches the New Moon phase.

Fun fact: if you live in the Northern Hemisphere, the left side of the moon will be illuminated during the Last Quarter. If you live in the Southern Hemisphere, the right side is illuminated.

The Holly King and The Oak King

The legend of the Holly King and the Oak King is oft referred to as we approach Yule and start decking the halls with boughs of holly, but what is it all about and where does the story come from?

There are two main versions of the story, each with slightly different characters. In one, the Oak King is a figure similar to the Green Man; a summer God of warm smiles and broad green leaves, while the Holly King is a similarly benign and jolly chap dressed in red and with holly tangled in his long white beard (sound familiar?), associated with winter. He even rides a sleigh pulled by deer. This version has its roots in Wiccan belief, and tells of two battling kings; the Holly King reigns the waning year and is defeated at the Winter Solstice by the Oak King, who then reigns the waxing year in turn until he is defeated at the Summer Solstice by the Holly King, and so on ad infinitum.

The second version of the story has older roots in European witchcraft traditions, and as with so much goes back …

Difference Between the Winter and Summer Solstices?

To understand the difference between summer and winter solstices, we need to have a clear understanding of the word solstice. We know that earth revolves around sun in an elliptical orbit, but it also spins around its own axis. This is an imaginary line going right across the planet from North Pole to South Pole. Fortunately for our planet, this axis is not perpendicular but tilted about 23.5 degrees and it is this tilt that gives us seasons on earth. This tilt makes one half of earth receive more direct rays from sun than the other half which remains away from earth.

The axis, when it tilts towards the sun, it makes northern hemisphere receive more direct rays from the sun than southern hemisphere. This phenomenon occurs between June and September and thus this is the period when it is summer season in the northern hemisphere. Again, this axis tilts away from the sun between December and March which is why we have winter season in the northern hemisphere during this period. While it is summers in northern hemisphere as it receives more direct rays from the sun, it is winter in the southern hemisphere, and vice versa in winters.

Summer Solstice: The Meaning and History Behind the First Day of Summer

The summer solstice sets off the official start of summer as the Northern Hemisphere angles itself at the point in its orbit closest to the sun, causing the longest day and shortest night of the calendar year.

Many cultures, both ancient and modern, celebrate the sunlight with rituals and holidays.

What is the summer solstice?

The term solstice comes from the Latin words “sol” (sun) and “stitium” (still or stopped). It is used to describe the exact moment when the poles are tilted at their maximum toward or away from the sun.

The summer solstice occurs when the sun is directly above the Tropic of Cancer, which is the circle marking the latitude 23.5 degrees north, and which runs through …
