As a Leonian day, August 17’s “planetary” ruler is the sun, with which many Gods have been identified, including Helios. A tale told by the ancient Greeks about this golden deity concerns the nymph Clytia (or Clytie), who feel in love with Helios, but whose passion was not returned. Jealous of his affair with Leucothoe, a Babylonian princess, Clytia told her strict father of it, whereupon he buried his daughter alive. As for Clytia, she eventually wasted away gazing at Helios, whereupon she was transformed into a sunflower, which still follows the movement of the sun with its head.

A Sun-loving Flower

Place a sunflower on your altar, both to concentrate your thoughts on the Sun and as a reminder of the destruction inherent in burning passion. When they have ripened, harvest the seeds. Remove the tough cases to find a delicious, nutritious snack.

As shapers of reality, our role during this time is extremely vital: our thoughts, words, rituals and visualizations, when directed toward universal healing and harmonization, have the potential to be a precious contribution to the future of the human race, wildlife and the environment as we know it. In addition to our work in the ethereal or spiritual realm, working in the physical realm — as activists, disseminators of information, artists, healers, teachers, volunteers, etc. —- can fortify our efforts, empower our intentions and generally help heal the world in a concrete, tangible way. And as we know from the Law of Returns, each of our positive intentions and generous actions will return to us multiplied, so our global healing efforts will also allow us to steep ourselves in positivity, harmony and good fortune.

General Meaning: The situation calls for confronting a knotty conflict and cutting through it. Somehow, the way to harmony and unity is blocked or frustrated — perhaps by a tangle of misunderstandings or outright deceit. Like Alexander the Great cutting the Gordian knot, assert yourself now and you will meet with good fortune. Don’t be afraid to shake things up a bit. The ability to take corrective measures when they are needed is an essential trait of true leadership.

But those who bring discipline to bear must, above all, be honest — with others, and with themselves. Honesty is the hallmark of the strong and self-confident. The successful person masters the art of honesty much as a swordsman masters fencing. When lies, delusions and game playing are getting in the way of teamwork, a swift sword of honest action, perhaps even correction, must be wielded to protect one’s integrity and values. Decisiveness with integrity brings good fortune.

Though your actions be vigorous, they must not be hasty, severe or arbitrary. Be sure to carefully consider all the circumstances. In the case of a serious disruption of relations, you must forgive, but not forget to give a person a chance to make reparations for his mistakes. If some penalty or punishment is necessary, make certain that it fits the crime. When boundaries have become slack and useless, only through the institution of clear and swift correction can their effectiveness be restored.

In situations where serious issues of justice are at stake, keep careful records and do not hesitate to go public with the truth.

Algiz can be easily recognized as the antlers of the elk that it represents. The elk can represent victory, but is much more appropriately associated with the thrill of the hunt itself. This rune therefore can portend vigor and success in active endeavors. Also, this rune seems symbolic of a hand with outstretched fingers – a protective hand. This hand may suggest that you will be shielded from things negative – the problems still exist, you are spared the brunt of their force.

In ancient Egypt, Ra, the Sun God, received special attention in the form of sacrifices from his Earth-bound worshipers on the fourth day of each month. At temples dedicated to Ra, thrice-daily rituals were performed by the high priest, who had purified himself in the waters of the sacred lake before approaching the inner sanctum containing the statue that, it was believed, housed the God’s essence. At dawn, this divine image would be “awakened” by the smell of burning incense before being washed, anointed, dressed, and presented with food and other offerings.

Good Monday Morning, My Dear Friends!

Good Monday Morning, my dear friends! I hope your day is off to a great start. I hope most of you are on a long extended vacation. I remember hearing on the News, most people would be off the 4th, 5th & 6th. Boy, a break like that, you won’t never want to go back to work. I know after a long vacation, I use to have to kick myself in the rump to go back. I just stopped to think if I missed going to work, hmm? Consider my family’s auto shop moved 60 miles in the opposite direction of my home, No! At first I enjoyed it. The business was only located 20 miles away from where I live. That was great. I loved going to work. In that type of business, you meet all types of people. It was definitely interesting. Then I don’t know what happened to cause the move. I guess it was a bigger garage and my cousin jumped on it. My hubby and I helped move that greasy, nasty crap, YUCK! I worked at the new office for about 6 months and I decided I had it. My cousin told me he was going to have to decrease my salary. Yeah, right! I guess he thought I was going to work for my health, lol! Anyway, I hit the road and never looked back. So thinking about now, heck no, I don’t miss work, lol!

Well let’s get down to business. I ran across this lovely chant I wanted to share with you this morning. I do not know the author. If anyone does, please contact me and I will credit it. I hope you enjoy it.
