Puck, the Pet of the Day
Name: Puck
Age: Four and a half years old
Gender: Male
Kind: Black-headed Caique
Home: Ventura, California, USA
Here are some pictures of Puck. He is very expressive and an excellent communicator. He does talk a little human, but his main forms of communication are vocalizations, and body language. If he’s happy or excited, he lets you know. If he’s angry, he lets you know. If he’s sleepy, he makes his “bedtime noises.” If he’s feeling frisky, he also lets you know. There’s never a dull moment with this little guy!

His favorite pastimes include chewing on things he’s not supposed to, shredding tissues, hair styling, eating, staying up late, sleeping late, and snuggling. I have to be careful about leaving him unattended though. One time I left him alone for five seconds, and when I came back, two keys were missing from my keyboard, some stuff was knocked over, and he was in the process of climbing up my speaker cables like a little mountain climber. More recently, he destroyed my QWERTY keyboard on my phone; and even more recently, he decided that antique tables are just as fun to chip as wooden toys.

When I was shopping for a bird, I first met with another bird, who was totally sweet. Something just felt wrong though, so I didn’t take it. Next, I met Puck. He jumped into my arms and started making kissy sounds and wolf whistles. I took him home.

He keeps my on my toes, and brings me a lot of joy and companionship. Heloves meeting new people. He loves going everywhere with me, and everybody seems to love him. He also loves spending time outside. He has an outdoor cage to spend time in, and sometimes I let him play and climb around in edible plants. Lavender is one of his favorite bushes (he likes to chew up the flowers). He loves to go to parties and get attention from multiple people at once. On Thanksgiving, he had his own plate. On Halloween I rubbed raspberries on him to look like blood, and he went as a zombie. I even took him through a scary haunted house with me, which he seemed to enjoy. He’s tons of fun!

March 21 – Daily Feast

March 21 – Daily Feast

Other people have problems the same way we do. If the get loud about them, we don’t have to react. Resistance makes difficult times even more difficult to handle. It helps not to threaten but to let things cool down naturally. The Cherokee word for this is, to hi ge se s di, making peace, or peace for the earth. Forgiveness seems to be a necessity for so many things that are wrong. Forgiveness never degrades but elevates, and is not to let someone else get away with something but to free ourselves from an entanglement. It frees us from bitter resentment that can make us sick – and can help heal the sickness if it is already there. Eventually, it makes us glad that we did not react, doing and saying things for which we would later be sorry.

~ They fight among themselves, but if you strike at them they will turn on you. ~

Special Kitties of the Day for March 21

Mr. Tinkles, Garfield, the Cat of the Day
Name: Mr. Tinkles, Garfield
Age: One and a half years old
Gender: Male
Kind: Persian, Exotic short hair
Home: Burbank, California, USA
Ihave two beautiful kittens. Well, not kittens anymore, but for me they are! Here are some of their pictures and I hope you enjoy. They are one and a half years old brothers from the same littler. One is a completely white from head to tail, and the other one is an Orange persian. Garfield is the Orange and Mr. Tinkles (who got his name from the movie “Cats and Dogs”) is white.

Even though they are brothers, the sure have different personalities. Garfield is more outgoing and more friendly! More a people’s cat and according to himself the king! of the house.

The other one is more shy and not so much a people’s cat. Only with my partner is he not shy. Both cats are sweet boys and we just love them to death.

Mr. Tinkles, the white cat, is shy with other people except with us. He’s a sweet loving cat and loves to play with stick that has a feather. He always tries to take it with him and hide it. He also loves playing with the sheets and he has a weird way of drinking water. He likes to lay on the floor and drink it while kicking the water container. He loves to pay with his brother Garfield and he loves to sleep during the day in my underwear drawer. He is a big jumper and can jump really high if he wants too.

Garfield is the orange one, and is more energetic, extremely playful and he thinks he is the king of the house. He loves to run around the house with his brother. He loves getting pampered and loves getting into closets and boxes. He’s a loving cat and every time I get home. he’s waiting for me. He also loves to pose for pictures and he knows it when people take pictures of him. He loves to play with the stick and the feather thing, they both goes nuts over that.

As you see even though they are brothers, they sure have different personalities but one thing is certain. They love each other and I don’t think they can ever be apart from each other and US!

Doggie of the Day for Wednesday, March 21

Mollie, the Dog of the Day
Name: Mollie
Age: Eight years old
Gender: Female Breed: Akita
Home: Coupeville, Washington, USA
This is Mollie. She is a sweet and loyal dog. Mollie is always glad to see me and she has both dog and cat friends. When she’s not out hiking in the woods, she works out at Whidbey General Hospital in cardiac rehab (okay, she only sat on the non-moving treadmill for for a photo op. I have a friend that works there).

She’s been to the Canine College and knows how to speak, sit, stay, come, lie down, shake, and roll over. When she gets really excited she will run in circles and/or howl. She likes to bite fish oil caps and eat cheese. When she’s excited she gives you little nips. Mollie is 8 years old but has a youthful appearance.

She lets me check her ears for infection and she likes to hold my hand with her mouth. Mollie is very personable and will work the crowd whenever she can.

Dog-gone Doggie of the Day for Spring Equinox!

Taggart, the Dog of the Day
Name: Taggart
Age: Three and a half years old
Gender: Male Breed: Australian Shepherd mix
Home: Concord, California, USA
Hello! My name is Taggart. My mom volunteers at a shelter called ARF and was working one evening for a special event in November of 2008. I was brought out to meet people and when I met my mom I put my head on her leg and that was it. She came back the next day to adopt me and I’ve been happily living in my new home for over three years. I will be turning four in May of this year.

I live in a house with one other dog and two cats. I like to play with the cats but only the boy cat will play with me. The girl just runs and hides. Right now I am the only dog in the house. My sister, Zoee, has been at grandma’s house since Christmas. I’m not sure why, something about her knee, but I know I miss her. I’m so bored all the time with no one to play with. But mom takes me on walks and sometimes to the park to play with other dogs. That’s so cool! That’s not something we do when Zoee is home.

My mom and dad always say how silly I am. I sleep in funny positions and make strange noises when I yawn. Mom also says I sound like Chewbacca (whoever that is).

The picture of me with the tennis ball is when I first came home. I sure have grown! Mom says I’m a little chunky right now since I’m not getting as much exercise with Zoee being gone. She even cut back on my food! But I still get a carrot every day.

Well, I’m going to go bug mom to take me for a walk since the rain has stopped for a while. Talk to you later!!

Please Accept My Apologizes for Yesterday

Sorry Images, Pics, Comments, Graphics, Photos

Before I start today, I would like to apologize to all of my dear friends. Yesterday was pitiful on my part as far as the daily postings go. I am so sorry. I had been up since 2:30 a.m., that morning. I had cleaned the house, washed clothes and also went outside and did yard work. By the time it was to do the postings, I thought I was fine. But I sit down and the next thing I knew, I was so sleepy. I couldn’t hold my eyes open. I was falling asleep between posts and I couldn’t remember what I had posted and hadn’t. Finally, I just slid out of the chair and into the floor. I finally woke up at 7:00 p.m., yesterday evening.

I felt so bad about not getting my work done here. I know you come here each day for certain posts. I know if I don’t get them done, you will quit coming and I don’t want that. I have made some good friends and I don’t want to loss any of you.

So, please forgive me. I promise I will do better. I won’t say it won’t never happen again. Most of you know of my bionic back, my medicine for it also plays a big part in my passing out. Because most of my medicine is for pain and to keep me calm and relaxed. So when I have been without sleep, it sort helps me to pass out when I take my next dose.

But again, I am very sorry for the mess yesterday was. Now on to what is important, today’s postings. And I promise I won’t fall asleep, lol!

Love to you all,

Lady A

Magick Staff

Magick Staff

General History
A magik staff has many names; a spirit staff, a walking stick, a travelers weapon, a weary wanderers companion. It has been used as a carved record of ones long journey, a symbol of authority, a support for an exhausted traveler and a weapon. It’s an extension of one’s own arms and reach; as a pole to vault over creeks, or a deep ditch. Travelers used the staff to carry their traveling packs over one shoulder, or heavy loads across both their shoulders. It’s been used to defend against attack, or even to gain an upper hand in a battle.
In the Orient, many peasants were band from possessing weapons. But developed methods and learned how to use their common every day tools in lethal ways for both protection and battle. The staff is one of these many weapons and is used in various forms of martial arts.
In ancient Egypt, the staff can be seen in the hands of various royals, and politicians. Many hieroglyphs depict people of importance walking with a thin staff. Some topped with additional symbology to define the importance of the person or the office that person held within Pharaohs realm. It’s also a symbol of authority to Pharaoh. And can be found in his hand with a decorative head piece. Often a symbol representing an Egyptian God, such as Isis.
There are many Biblical references to the staff as well. The mostly commonly known of these is the staff given to Moses to rule over the snakes and desert. Later used in Pharaohs palace to swallow up the snakes of Egypt, laid upon the Nile to curse the waters and to part the sea so that Israel could escape Pharaoh’s chariots. The staff with hook on the top is often associated with the shepherd, and the ‘every-man’ or children of God. Again showing how a headpiece can define the position of the bearer.
Keeping a record of events in the carvings of a staff can be traced to the ancient Norsemen. Carving runes to tell a story or tale along it’s shaft was a practical and common practice amongst these travelers. It was also used to “skor” numerical information for the length of a measurement, a journey or trade. This method actually carried into modern day and we use it to keep ‘score’ during a game. This method of carving isn’t unique to the Norse however.
Celtic Shamans used a staff as both a symbol of authority, leadership and as a tool for spiritual journey. Often carved with mystical symbols, Celtic runes, or animals. These were the Shamans tool to help guide the path of his/her workings as well as the clan they administered too.
Druids used carvings as a method to record stories of the Gods, the history of Ireland and mythical tales of beasts and magik.
Native American Shamans also used their staves to record tales. We might think of a totem pole as a large example; but the same type of totem carvings can be found in smaller versions too. From tall walking sticks to smaller talking sticks. These were used to record a journey or a great battle.
In all of these various cultures, a staff is often decorated as well as carved. Topped with the antlers of a deer, decorated with leather, feathers and/or stones or beads. The staff is unique to it’s owner and their position in the world. Giving special meaning to that person’s life and their usage of the staff.
Today you can find many different types of staves. From spiritual usages to simple walking sticks of a hiker. Some Craft traditions require a person to be initiated as a priest/priestess before creating or possessing a staff. Other traditions see the staff as a tool used upon one’s journey into the spiritual world or as a tool to help guide your steps along the spiritual path. Personally I think if you want a staff and feel connected to this kind of tool; then make or find yourself one.

Making Your Own Staff

It’s important to note that you don’t have to make your own staff. You can easily find a woodcarver who has created some beautiful works of art and purchase one. Take it home and decorate it as you desire. I have both home made staves and purchased ones. My most favorite was purchased and decorated by me at home. So in some way’s it’s a combination of both.
A staff is typically made from wood. Depending on what energies you want to associate with your staff will depend on which wood you choose. There have many different types to choose from. Oak and Ash are the most commonly used on the pagan paths. Because of their spiritual reference to these two trees. But white pine, maple and apple are also popular choices.
But consider some other interesting alternatives. An Osage Orange tree (found around the US), is a beautiful light colored wood that gets darker as it ages, until it turns black. Crape Myrtle is a lovely white and very hard wood, and makes a wonderful staff material.
Sometimes the best way to choose a staff is to take a long walk through the woods and ask the GreatSpirits to guide you to the staff that’s meant for you. Be it fallen from a tree; a branch off a living tree, or a young tree just starting it’s growth. In either case; make sure you ask permission from the tree to have this gift; and thank the tree spirit and your guides for giving itself or part of itself to you. If you choose a stick that has fallen; make sure it’s not rotten or infested with bugs.
Take your staff home and clean it up. Decide if you’re going to peal off the bark or leave it natural. Set it aside for about 30 to 60 days in a dry place. A shed or in the corner of the garage are often good places. Lay it or hang it flat; don’t stand it on one end. You want it to dry out evening.
After it’s dry, the hard part begins. What are you going to do with it? You can carve one end as a head piece. You can take it to a wood crafter and ask them to carve a head piece like the one pictured here on the left. You can carve runes into the sides. You can decorate the staff with feathers or fur, leather, silk ribbons, yarn, beads, and just about anything else you find an association with. You can brand or burn runes or personal sigils in the shaft as well.
If you use a metal or stones to decorate your wand, make sure you understand the properties of that item on the wand. Just like wood, metals and stones have their own magikal traits as well.
Or you can even just leave it plain in it’s natural beauty. Nothing wrong with nature, or being minimal. The two staves pictured here (the wolf and the hawk) belong to my husband and myself. I decorated the wolf with leather, feathers, beads and shells consistent with a Celtic Shaman’s view. Where as my husband decided to leave his staff plain and simple. So it’s really up to you which way you decide to go.

Consecration

Many people like to cleanse their staff before they work on it. Others perform a ritual and bring the staff into a circle before any carving or decorating is done. These two methods allow you to clear the energy of the staff from sitting around outside, in the garage or store. And to add or imprint your own energies upon the wood. It’s also a chance to have your guides and the Gods/Goddesses come to work with you in the creation or decoration of the staff.
These methods are by no means set in stone. You can work on the wood and decorations and then take the staff into circle for clearing and cleansings. No matter which way you chose; the last thing you should do before actually using your staff is a consecration ritual. You want to imprint your desired use for this tool upon all the elements of the tool.
For instance, if this is to be used as your guide on the spiritual path of knowledge and experiences; and your staff has an animal headpiece; you might ask the GreatSpirits to give spiritual sight to your wolves eyes; or your hawks vision so that they might guide your steps upon your spiritual journey. When you take your staff out; you can imagine the gaze of your animal helping you to see the direction you should take, and the decisions you have to make.

Hello this is Harley! Officially Castle of Harley Donagal O’Killian ~’Harley’ for short. Harley is the keeper of my castle! He runs the roost! During the day Harley is an outside watch dog, keeping the bunnies, squirrels and birds at bay. In the evening he cuddles and lounges in front of the hearth. When Harley goes on walks he has a backpack he wears to carry his water, this is a very important job for him and he takes great pride when doing so, and wants people to notice that he is working.

He also will speak, sit, lay down, shake, wait, back up, stay and fetch, mostly by hand signals! All with a treat reward of coarse! My friend Harley is a joyful and a frolicking character, he howls and makes talking sounds when he comes in every night and makes funny faces (for a dog). He makes me laugh every day.

Dog-gone Doggie of the Day for March 16th

Buster, the Dog of the Day
Name: Buster
Age: Three years old
Gender: Male Breed: German Shepherd Dog
Home: Roscoe, Illinois, USA
Buster was just thirteen pounds at six weeks of age when we brought him into our family. He was shy, timid, yet playful and full of energy. By the time he turned one, he was near 100 pounds and had become very protective of the four kids. He knows when it is time for the school bus to drop off the kids because then he gets to play his favorite game – FRISBEE. He will wait for you to throw his Frisbee, catch it, bring it back to you, and do this again and again without ever stopping. Nothing can distract him when he is playing Frisbee. You can try to give him his favorite treats — carrots, green beans, apples, and he will just turn up his nose because all he wants to do is play Frisbee. He won’t forget about the treats because when he’s done playing, he comes back in the house looking all over for the treats. He knows a lot of tricks. He can open doors. Although we are trying to teach him how to close the door behind him. He wakes each one of the kids up with kisses and nibbles on the bed. After each one is awake and ready to go to school, he lays down because his job is done. If there is any water outside, you will see Buster laying in it. He loves to play and swim in water. He’s not particular if it’s his pool or a mud puddle. Buster is such a huge part of our family. We love our Buster!

Elder’s Meditation of the Day – March 15

“We were taught generosity to the poor and reverence for the Great Mystery. Religion was the basis of all Indian training.”

–Charles A. Eastman (Ohiyesa), SANTEE SIOUX

Every Indian knows and has a feeling inside that, bottom line, our real purpose on earth is to be of service to our fellow man and to be of maximum service to the Great Spirit. The Creator designed the earth to be self supporting — everything is interconnected and all things were created to be of service to each other. The Indian way is to pray about all things. Religion is not separate from any part of our lives. Everything is spiritual and we are to view all matters in this way. Family is spiritual, work is spiritual, helping others is spiritual, our bodies are spiritual, our talk is spiritual, our thoughts are spiritual. We need to practice seeing all things as spiritual.

Great Spirit, today let me help the needy and allow me the wisdom to have respect and reverence for Your teachings.

Special Kitty Of The Day for March 15th

Eliot, the Cat of the Day
Name: Eliot
Age: Thirteen years old
Gender: Female
Kind: Calico
Home: North Hollywood, California, USA
Iadopted Eliot (nickname Ellie) in 1998 and am so lucky to still have her after two bouts of Hepatic Lipidosis (liver disease). The first time was when she was six and I prayed and prayed she would not go just yet, even though the vet recommended putting her down, because she is the most loving, fun, feisty, attentive cat I could ever hope for. I have two other cats and Eliot always manages to take center stage when the other two come around. The second time she was hospitalized was right after she turned thirteen. I know I had been fortunate to have her double her life span but I still visited her twice daily at the hospital to let her know how much I love her. She recovered! I know now she came into my life as a healing force for me and I guess she knew that I could use a bit more and I thank her for that! Eliot is a female who’s named after a female writer, George Eliot, who had to use a male’s name in order to get published.

Eliot can be sleeping at one moment and suddenly get up and run through the house like someone’s chasing her. She leaps to the top of her pet condo with so much force that it shakes! Her pupils widen and after about three laps in the house, she settles. She loves a few games, especially the one where I cover her up (like with a light kitchen towel) and then quickly pull it off her. She loves to grab at it and whenever she feels satiated, she just lets the towel fall on her one last time and takes a nap covered up. Whenever a new toy comes into the house she has first shot at it, whether the other two like it or not! She’s the only cat out of three that calls me from another room to ask to get settled for a nap, either in one of the bedroom drawers, or under the bed covers. Or she’ll call from the bathroon for me to turn the faucet on for her so that she can drink from it. While I’m on the computer she wants to be held and wraps herself around my neck, making it difficult for me to move but I love when she does that! She’s the cleaner of the house. She cleans both the other two cats, whether they like it or not! She’s actually very high maintenance but I do love that she returns all my attention with so much by wanting to be wherever I am. Oh! I hear her now! She wants help getting under the bed covers, gotta go!

Precious Pup of the Day for March 15th

Freya, the Dog of the Day
Name: Freya
Age: Six years old
Gender: Female Breed: American Eskimo Dog
Home: Valley Stream, New York, USA
I was mourning the loss of my dog (an American Eskimo – fourteen years old) for two weeks six year ago, when my friends bought me a three-month-old dog, Freya. She is so good with me and stays by my side all day. I am home every day because of my disability. She helps me to get through the days. I love her.

Freya is extremely affectionate. When I don’t feel well, she sense it and will curl up next to me and stroke me with her paw. She is so intuitive. I have problems with my legs and she will lay next to me and lick my legs. When she is happy to see someone she doesn’t bark she “croons” in such a way to say “I’m happy to see you!” Freya isn’t much of a trick girl. She is all about family. She loves to push her toys across the floor with her nose and then pops it in the air with her nose. She makes us smile every day!

Dog-gone Doggie of the Day for March 14th

Orion, the Dog of the Day
Name: Orion
Age: Two years old
Gender: Male Breed: Lab, Hound mix
Home: Cary, North Carolina, USA
Orion came to me last March, after the loss of my Aussie Jake (Pet of the Day Jan. 4 1999). He has been in the shelter system for some time and had a near brush with the gas chamber last year. A non-profit Camp Rescue brought him back from near death and cared for him until I meet him earlier this year. He is a rambunctious two-year-old that has two speeds (on full, and sleep).

He shares this house with little sister Sadie a Corgi mix. They get along well enough, occasionally playing when Sadie is in “the mood”. He is such a lover bug, always wants a pat or hug. He loves to stand on his hind legs wrap his paws around your waist, a real hug.

Orion is a funny guy. He is very people oriented and loves attention. He is still learning sit and down. Stay is not possible, he is too active. ” the wild hair” comes at least once a day. He does a greyhound impersonation and tears around the backyard. Sadie tries to herd him, but he is just a little faster.

Orion loves to have his neck scratched. He will sit and stretch his nose way up toward the ceiling. This is the only time he will sit still… it feels so good. So hats off to a very handsome Dude, Orion.

Today’s Affirmation for March 14th

Gratefully I put my faith in the spirit. Here I find peace and the strength to deal with adversity.

Today’s Thought for March 14th

The whole of existence is imagination within imagination, while true being is Divine alone.

Ibn Al’Arabi (1165 – 1240)

Today’s Meditation for March 14th

Spirit Singing

The life-force (known as prana in the Vedic tradition) is often associated with the breath. Improvised singing can therefore be a powerful way to contact and express your spirit – the life-force within you. Find a place where you can make noise without being disturbed. Stand with your arms by your sides and your feet apart. Take a deep breath and push air through your mouth to create a sound. Do not try to form words or a tune. The aim is not to make beautiful sounds but to express your spirit through your voice. Be aware of your feelings, giving them full vocal expression in all their rawness and power.

Elder’s Meditation of the Day – March 13

Elder’s Meditation of the Day – March 13

“I went to a holy man and asked him for help. He told me to get on the Red Road. `Pray to Wakan-Tanka (Great Spirit) to help you walk the Red Road.”

–Dr. A.C. Ross (Ehanamani), LAKOTA

All Indian traditions, customs and ceremonies help us answer three questions: who am I?, why am I?, and where am I going? Only on the Red Road can we find the answer to these three questions. When we can answer these three questions, we are on the Red Road. When we cannot, we have gone astray. That is why the Holy Men tell us to pray to the Great Spirit and to seek the Red Road. Why am I? My purpose is the serve the Great Spirit. Who am I? I am an Indian who walks the Red Road. Where am I going? My vision is to serve my people.

Great Spirit, when I know You, only then do I know me. Help me today to know You.
