Spell for Today – Dragon Prosperity

The dragon is a fantastic beast that appears in almost every mythological tradition throughout the world. Often depicted as a mix of several differen creatures, it represents the four elements of life: air, fire, water, and earth. The dragon has the wings of a bird and is covered with the scales of a fish or snake. It is capable of breathing fire, and usually guards a horde of treasure deep within the earth. In pre-Christian Europe and the Far East, the dragon was seen a symbol of power, virility, and superhuman strength, and was considered to be a friend of mankind.

In magick, the dragon is wholly beneficent and is seen as the manifestation of life-giving celestial power, and has the attributes of both the sun and moon, masculine and feminine, good and evil sides of nature.

The dragon and serpent are usually interchangeable as representations of the unmanifest and the creation of form and matter. The dragon represents the highest spiritual power, the supernatural, and the spirit of change. When you align your forces with those of the dragon, you gain strength and power. Its magick can help you overcome negative thoughts and it can teach you how to live abundantly.

Dragon Prosperity Spell

This spell is designed to create prosperity. It works best if you have a job and are looking for a pay raise or bonus.

Items needed:
One large green pillar candle, dragon’s blood incense, incense burner and charcoal, dragon prosperity oil, a green silk pouch, five new coins (a penny, nickel, dime, quarter, and half-dollar), and an altar or small table.

Dragon’s Blood Incense Recipe

To make dragon’s blood incense, mix 1/2 tsp. dragon’s blood resin with 1/2 tsp. allspice, 1/2 tsp myrrh resin, 1/2 tsp. dried orange peel, 1/2 tsp. sandalwood powder.
To the mixture add 3-drops cinnamon oil, and 3 drops orange spice oil.

Dragon’s Prosperity Oil

To make dragon prosperity oil, in a small bottle mix 5 drops cinnamon oil with 3 drops orange spice oil, and 2 drops sandalwood oil.

The first thing you will need to do is engrave the figure of a dragon on the candle. This can be easily done using awaters (the serpent), and the breath of life (the bird). Generally it is considered to be a ball point pen or small sculpting tool. The engraving does not have to be an elaborate work of art, just a simple outline will do.

Begin on the night of the new moon. Place the dragon candle on your altar with the incense burner in front of it. Place the coins on the left side of the candle and the silk pouch on the right side.

Light the green candle and charcoal. When the coal is glowing red, sprinkle some incense on it. Pick up the penny, hold it tightly, close your eyes and visualize the dragon in his cave. See his treasure and all the wealth he guards. In your mind’s eye, slowly approach the dragon. Show the dragon your coin. Then, with great respect, ask the dragon to expand your wealth as you say:

O great dragon of wealth and power,
I greet thee in this sacred hour.
Great good fortune on me now shower.
That my prosperity shall blossom and flower.

Stay with the dragon for a short time. Listen to what he says, and take heed of his advice. When the dragon begins to fade, leave his cave and return to the present. Place the penny in the green silk pouch. Thank the dragon by saying:

I thank thee great dragon of power and might
For granting my wishes on this night.

Leave the candle to burn for four hours and then snuff it out. Repeat this spell every night until all of the coins have been placed in the green pouch. When the last coin has been placed in the pouch, allow the candle to completely burn out. The rite is then complete.

Messier 96

Image Credit & Copyright: Mark Hanson and Mike Selby

Explanation: Spiral arms seem to swirl around the core of Messier 96 in this colorful, detailed portrait of a beautiful island universe. Of course M96 is a spiral galaxy, and counting the faint arms extending beyond the brighter central region it spans 100 thousand light-years or so. That’s about the size of our own Milky Way. M96 is known to be 38 million light-years distant, a dominant member of the Leo I galaxy group. Background galaxies and smaller Leo I group members can be found by examining the picture. The most intriguing one is itself a spiral galaxy seen nearly edge on behind the outer spiral arm near the 1 o’clock position from center. Its bright central bulge cut by its own dark dust clouds, the edge-on background spiral appears to be about 1/5 the size of M96. If that background galaxy is similar in actual size to M96, then it would be about 5 times farther away.

Milky Way over Devils Tower

Image Credit & Copyright: MaryBeth Kiczenski

Explanation: What created Devils Tower? The origin of this extraordinary rock monolith in WyomingUSA is still debated, with a leading hypothesis holding that it is a hardened lava plume that never reached the surface to become a volcano. In this theory, the lighter rock that once surrounded the dense volcanic neck has now eroded away, leaving the dramatic tower. Known by Native Americans by names including Bear’s Lodge and Great Gray Horn, the dense rock includes the longest hexagonal columns known, some over 180-meters tall. High above, the central band of the Milky Way galaxy arches across the sky. Many notable sky objects are visible, including dark strands of the Pipe Nebula and the reddish Lagoon Nebula to the tower’s right. Green grass and trees line the foreground, while clouds appear near the horizon to the tower’s left. Unlike many other international landmarks, mountaineers are permitted to climb Devils Tower.

A Space Station Crosses a Busy Sun

Image Credit & Copyright: Wang Letian (Eyes at Night)

Explanation: Typically, the International Space Station is visible only at night. Slowly drifting across the night sky as it orbits the Earth, the International Space Station (ISS) can be seen as a bright spot several times a year from many locations. The ISS is then visible only just after sunset or just before sunrise because it shines by reflected sunlight — once the ISS enters the Earth’s shadow, it will drop out of sight. The only occasion when the ISS is visible during the day is when it passes right in front of the Sun. Then, it passes so quickly that only cameras taking short exposures can visually freeze the ISS’s silhouette onto the background Sun. The featured picture did exactly that — it is actually a series of images taken earlier this month from BeijingChina with perfect timing. This image series was later combined with separate images taken at nearly the same time but highlighting the texture and activity on the busy Sun. The solar activity included numerous gaseous prominences seen around the edge, highlighted in red, filaments seen against the Sun’s face, and a dark sunspot.

Projects to Celebrate Samhain, the Witches’ New Year

As Samhain approaches, you can decorate your home with a number of easy craft projects. Start celebrating a bit early with these fun and simple ideas that honor the final harvest, and the cycle of life and death

of 10

Pagan Treat Bags for Samhain

Do you have Pagan kids coming over for a Samhain event? You can have a kid-friendly celebration by putting together a goodie bag that’s representative of your Pagan spirituality. The key here is to do some creative, outside the box thinking. Sure, there are a ton of Halloween decorations in the store at this time of year, but not all of those are really connected with Pagan religious belief systems. They’re really more about the secular celebration of Halloween, which is fine, unless you’re looking for kid-friendly stuff that honors Pagan spirituality.

Here are a few things to try:

  • Decorate the bags themselves with symbols that are meaningful to you – depending on the pantheon your group honors, you might include designs that are associated with Greek, Roman, Celtic, or Norse mythology.
  • Small herbal sachets: sew herbs into a fabric pouch. Use lavender to help with dreams, or other appropriate plants.
  • Crystals and gemstones: As long as the kids attending your event are beyond the put-everything-in-your-mouth stage, you could include rose quartz for love, hematite for protection, and more.
  • A Portable Altar Kit: Depending on how old the kids are, think about making an altar box that fits in a backpack or pocket. This might not be useful or safe for really young children, but older tweens and teens could use it responsibly.
  • Divination tools: make a simple pendulum with a stone wrapped in wire and attached to the end of a chain. Add a simple divination set by painting symbols on stones or wooden discs.
  • Wands: Make a simple wand with a stick and a crystal wrapped in wire.
  • Deity symbols: Does your tradition honor a particular god or goddess? Consider adding representative symbols – owls for Athenacats for Bastet, or an antler for Cernunnos. Try printing out a wallet-size image of the deity on heavy cardstock, add a prayer to your god/dess on the reverse side, and laminate it.

Finally, remember, Samhain is the same day as Halloween, so never underestimate the power of a few strategically placed pieces of delicious candy!

Taurus (April 20-May 20)

This is a good day to focus on home and family matters. A family discussion could be significant, especially with a female relative. With Mercury now in your sign, you have something to say! (Mercury will be in Taurus for the rest of the month.)

Gemini (May 21-June 20)

Cancer (June 21-July 22)

Money issues are on your mind as this week begins. Quite likely, you will make whatever headway you seek because the Sun at the top of your chart is casting you in a flattering spotlight. People admire you now, especially people in power. You can use this!

Leo (July 23-Aug. 22)

Today the Moon is in your sign dancing nicely with the Sun in your fellow Fire sign. Travel plans definitely appeal! You want to do something to expand your world and discover adventure. The saying that a change is as good as a rest appeals to you!

Libra (Sept. 23-Oct. 22)

This is an excellent day to discuss future goals with a friend, perhaps a female. Meanwhile, get more rest while the Sun is opposite your sign for the next two weeks. The Sun is your source of energy and in your chart, it’s now as far away from Libra as it can get all year.

Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 21)

This week begins very high viz.! For various reasons, people seem to know personal details about your private life. Cope with this as best you can. Likewise, cope with the increased chaos and activity taking place at home or within the family.

Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 18)

Because the Moon is in a sign that is directly opposite your sign today, this means you have to go more than half way when dealing with others. Hey, this is no biggie. It simply requires a little tolerance and cooperation. You’ve got this.

Pisces (Feb. 19-March 20)

This is an excellent way to begin your week. Relations with others are smooth. Today you’re focused on earnings, money and cash flow. Meanwhile, you’re ready to work. In particular, you’re willing to work on behalf of others or perform a service for someone.

Weekly Horoscope Sunday, April 10 to Saturday, April 16, 2022

All Signs

This week there is a major conjunction of Jupiter and Neptune. This is when two planets are in the same sign, at the same degree, at the same place and at the same time. (A bit of trivia: Jada Pinkett Smith has a Jupiter/Neptune conjunction in her chart.) The last time this particular conjunction in Pisces took place was on March 17, 1856, which was 166 years ago. It’s also interesting to note that was when Russia lost a religious war. Hmmm. What does this mean for the rest of us? Increased spiritual idealism, sensitivity and finely-tuned intuition. Marvelous creativity! But there will also be unrealistic expectations, and conspiracy theories, false news and disappointments where people are disillusioned. Needless to say, thousands, maybe millions, of young children will make the shattering discovery of who the tooth fairy is.

Aries (March 21-April 19)

Perhaps more than any other sign, this major conjunction will boost your curiosity and appreciation of your spiritual world. Very possibly, something will happen that makes you more aware than ever about the interconnectedness of everything in the universe – and certainly, people. Nothing is individually separate. Everything is connected. You might find yourself in a situation where you are happy to be selfless and work for the benefit of someone else. For some reason, you might need to put your own wants and needs second to the wants and needs of another person. You won’t resent this. Au contraire! You will feel satisfied and rewarded. (Is that halo getting a bit snug?)

Taurus (April 20-May 20)

This rare conjunction of Jupiter and Neptune will take place in the part of your chart that is related to friendships, as well as your dealings with groups, clubs and organizations. You might find that you idealize a friend. Or you might be very grateful for your friends. You might also become committed to an organization with a mandate to help others because this compassionate ideology will appeal to you. This same part of your chart is also related to your ability to set future goals for yourself. This means you might find yourself modifying or changing your future goals to embrace your ideals in a more personally, rewarding way. (Mother Teresa had her Moon in Taurus.)

Gemini (May 21-June 20)

This rare conjunction of Jupiter and Neptune will take place at the top of your chart this week. This is bound to affect your ideals and even your life direction. You will find gratifying if you have a chance to explore doing anything that will benefit others, especially those in need. You will want to be part of something bigger than yourself. You want to make a difference – even if it’s small. The point is it does make a difference. Because this conjunction is at the top of your chart your idealism will shine, and others will see that you are embracing these values. You will be admired by others. Someone might even approach you to ask for help.

Cancer (June 21-July 22)

This rare and unusual conjunction of Jupiter and Neptune will take place in the part of your chart that will inspire you to travel and do whatever you can to expand your horizons. You will see that travel will allow you to understand more about the world. In addition, it will connect you to a deeper part of yourself, which will make you feel more whole and more in touch with everything. You might also pursue idealistic philosophies and consciousness -expanding groups because you want to get in touch with higher truths – something meaningful. Someone from another culture might enter your world now. Hopefully, this is a beneficial contact. Nevertheless, be careful of over idealizing someone and not really seeing who they are.

Leo (July 23-Aug. 22)

Each of us will feel this rare conjunction of Jupiter and Neptune in a different way. For your sign, it will affect your financial scene, and especially how your finances interact with others – partners, close friends and anyone close to you. It will be easy for you to be generous, and give what you have to those in need. You won’t resent this. In fact, you will feel grateful that you’re in a position to be able to do this. In turn, because we know that everything in the universe is interconnected, then, most definitely – what goes around comes around! Therefore, you will also receive gifts, favours and a sense of abundance and self-respect because of your generosity to others.

Virgo (Aug. 23-Sept. 22)

How very interesting! This rare conjunction of Jupiter and Neptune is taking place exactly opposite your sign, which means it will affect your relations with partners, spouses and close friends. Most likely, you will idealize someone close to you. You will certainly respect them more than usual. You will see their fine qualities and be happy to know that this excellent person is in your life. Having said that, this Jupiter/Neptune conjunction comes with rose-coloured glasses. Oh yeah. You might also feel disillusioned by someone close to and disappointed because you expected more. Work to find a middle ground that is realistic and yet, kind and compassionate.

Libra (Sept. 23-Oct. 22)

You are entering a lovely, dreamy, feel-good week! This is because the rare Jupiter/Neptune conjunction (the first that has occurred in 166 years) will affect your health, your job and your pet. Some of you might get a new pet and feel thrilled and lovey-dovey with your new pal. More likely, something will occur in your actual job or with work that you might consider doing that is humanitarian, or some kind of effort on your part that makes the world a better place. In turn, you will feel gratified and personally rewarded. With respect to your health, this is a tricky astrological influence because it could indicate an improvement in your well-being, or it could magnify something that is confusing. Oops.

Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 21)

Well, you are a Water Sign, and this rare and unusual conjunction of Jupiter and Neptune in Pisces will definitely impact you, most likely in a favourable way. It will boost your good health and feelings of well-being. It will make you feel content and happy, and at the same time, more in touch with your creative potential. Your self-confidence will be strong. In fact, you will feel that you can do anything! Because Jupiter is associated with wealth, this is an excellent time for financial matters for your sign. Quite likely, you will work to make your surroundings more elegant and spend some money doing so. (“The colour is perfect! And definitely, the velvet.”) Children will be a source of joy.

Sagittarius (Nov. 22-Dec. 21)

This week the rare conjunction of your ruler Jupiter with Neptune in the sign of Pisces will give you wonderful opportunities to improve your home. You will work to make it look more elegant and luxurious. You might want to entertain so that you can show off your clever ideas. Likewise, this will be an excellent week to pursue real-estate opportunities because they will almost surely bring you a profit now or in the future. This same influence will promote goodwill among your family members. In fact, relatives may want to help you or vice versa. You will be happy to help a family member who is in need of assistance.

Capricorn (Dec. 22-Jan. 19)

This rare conjunction of Jupiter and Neptune that takes place this week will be a wonderful boost to your overall sense of optimism. You will believe in yourself and your ability to do things. In fact, you will believe that nothing is impossible. This lovely influence will also improve dealings with daily contacts like neighbours, siblings and relatives. It will heighten your interest in learning and studying lofty ideas and philosophies, especially knowledge related to other cultures and different countries. Thank you! (English); Gracias! (Spanish); Merci! (French); Danke! (German); Arigatou! (Japanese); Tack (Swedish) and Dyakayu! (Ukrainian).

Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 18)

Good news! This week the rare conjunction of Jupiter and Neptune takes place in your House of Earnings. Jupiter is the planet related to wealth and good fortune. Many of you will become richer or see ways to boost your income or get a better paying job. Some of you will perhaps buy something luxurious for yourself so that you “feel” richer. You might also see ways to use what you own to benefit others, especially someone in need. If so, this will be a gratifying and rewarding feeling for you. If you believe in past and future lives, then the only thing that you “take with you” after you die is your generosity. (Curious, when you think about it.)

Pisces (Feb. 19-March 20)

Jupiter and Neptune will line up perfectly this week in your sign. This is a rare and unusual event, which last occurred in 1856 – 166 years ago. This means for this entire week, you will feel blissful, peaceful and full of harmonious vibes filled with love, understanding and compassion for everyone. Humanitarian impulses and opportunities to be generous to others will present themselves to you, and in turn, if you act on these, you will feel personally rewarded and gratified. Teamwork will be easy. You will also find it easy to forgive those who have been petty and even harmful to you. (Actually, when you forgive your enemies, it drives them crazy.)

Moon Alert

There are no restrictions to shopping or important decisions today. The Moon is in Leo.

Aries (March 21-April 19)

Steer clear of power struggles today, especially with parents, bosses, teachers and the police. They will do you no good. You will not win. Instead, try to relax and go with the flow. Let things go. Don’t get your belly in a rash.

Taurus (April 20-May 20)

Today you might be doing a slow boil about something that rankles you; but you can’t speak up. (This is the worst, isn’t it?) You are probably wise to refrain from making a scene because things could get nasty today. Stay chill.

Gemini (May 21-June 20)

You might find yourself at odds with a friend or a member of a group today. When it comes right down to it, this is really just a power struggle, isn’t it? You want your way; they want their way. But when the annals of history are written, will any of this make a difference?

Cancer (June 21-July 22)

Power struggles with bosses, parents and the police are likely today. Naturally, you have a choice. This doesn’t have to happen. Because these confrontations could be nasty (because they are power struggles), give them a wide berth! Run the other direction for your own peace of mind.

Leo (July 23-Aug. 22)

Lighten up about differences in religion and belief systems today because these will lead to unpleasant power struggles. Although we all have more in common than not — in other words, we all want to be happy and we don’t want to suffer — nevertheless, people do have different ideologies.

Virgo (Aug. 23-Sept. 22)

Quarrels about shared property, taxes, debt as well as shared responsibilities might erupt today. Very likely, these are basically struggles about power and control. Be smart and don’t get involved. Relax and instead – enjoy your day! Why not?

Libra (Sept. 23-Oct. 22)

Be patient with partners and close friends today because arguments might break out that are really based on ego battles. Not a pretty picture. They will do you no good because you like harmony in your surroundings. Even though you are a clever debater – you like to keep the peace.

Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 21)

Avoid arguments at work today because anger only makes everyone miserable. Possibly, some of you might get into an argument about a pet. Or it might even be something that relates to your health? Sometimes you feel you’re right and it matters. But what really matters is your own happiness. Stay chill.

Sagittarius (Nov. 22-Dec. 21)

Steer clear of arguments with your kids today. Once there is anger in the family, all family members suffer. Is this worth it? Life is short. Meanwhile, family is important; in fact, family is gold. Respect the peace and harmony of your family. Be forgiving and kind.

Capricorn (Dec. 22-Jan. 19)

This is a classic day for a family argument, possibly with a parent or someone else. It might arise from a general discussion or it could relate to home repairs. More than most signs, you value family, tradition and security. Do what you can to keep the peace in your family. Harmony is invaluable.

Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 18)

You are bright and clever, and today you might be tempted to get into an argument because someone says something that you know isn’t true. Or perhaps you disagree. Whatever the case, it will probably be a power struggle. Is it worth it to destroy everyone’s peaceful day? Not really.

Pisces (Feb. 19-March 20)

Squabbles about money and possessions might ruin your day today. Why would you want to do that? Forget any power struggles that you encounter. Don’t take the bait. Put your own happiness first. Relax.

If Your Birthday Is Today

Actor Charlie Hunnam (1980) shares your birthday today. You are goal oriented, you have a plan, you make lists, you want to achieve your objectives. Nevertheless, you are also playful and forever youthful! This year will be more quiet and slower paced. It’s the perfect year to focus on friendships and close relationships. Be willing to let others help you. Relax.

Shadows at the Moon’s South Pole

Image Credit: NASAArizona State U.Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter

Explanation: Was this image of the Moon’s surface taken with a microscope? No — it’s a multi-temporal illumination map made with a wide-angle camera. To create it, the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter spacecraft collected 1,700 images over a period of 6 lunar days (6 Earth months), repeatedly covering an area centered on the Moon’s south pole from different angles. The resulting images were stacked to produce the featured map — representing the percentage of time each spot on the surface was illuminated by the Sun. Remaining convincingly in shadow, the floor of the 19-kilometer diameter Shackleton crater is seen near the map’s center. The lunar south pole itself is at about 9 o’clock on the crater’s rim. Crater floors near the lunar south and north poles can remain in permanent shadow, while mountain tops can remain in nearly continuous sunlight. Useful for future outposts, the shadowed crater floors could offer reservoirs of water-ice, while the sunlit mountain tops offer good locations to collect solar power.
