The Witches Spell for October 8: Reversing A Candle Spell

REVERSING A CANDLE SPELL

Do this 5 nights in a row, at dusk – as the sun dies and darkness descends.
Light 2 Black candles and as they burn, speak this invocation:
In the name of the Gods and all ye spirits,
“In the name of Cernunnos, and the light and the dark
    and the Gods of the Netherworld,
    Remove thy curse and sting from my heart and mine.
    And whosoever shall be casting a curse against me,
    Let he or she suffer their own curse.
    Let these candles be their candles,
    This burning be their burning,
    This curse be their curse.
    Let the pain they have caused me and mine
    Fall upon themselves.”
The two candles are completely burned each night.

  • 1 green candle
  • 1 blue candle
  • 1 white candle
  • Paper
  • Pen/pencil
  • 1 black ribbon

The Spell:

Light the candles and write on the paper all the pains of your past that still bother you. Roll up the paper and tie it off with the black ribbon. Chant;

”The past has no power over me. I release the pain, I am free.”

Burn the paper and the ribbon over the flames of all three candles and before the fire reaches your hand cast the paper onto the ground. The moment you feel heat the paper should be cast down. Let the fire burn out on it’s own, but keep an eye on it to make sure it doesn’t spread to other things.   I suggest casting this spell on dirt or gravel so as not to start a wild fire.

g.. Light the Yellow-Green Candle (for Anger, and Jealousy and Discord).
h.. Say, ”Here burns away all negative emotions from and , leaving only love and happiness.
It is in our house; it is all about us.

discord and chaos are fled.

Note: The spell is even more powerful if it is repeated on 3 consecutive days, with different day candles, and letting the Astral candles touch each other only at the third incantation on the third day. There is no need to write down the problems on the second or third day. However, the spell may be only performed once, in which case, the Astral candles should touch other at the third incantation. The ashes of the ”problem paper” can be gleefully flushed down the toilet.

Meditation to Meet Your Fire Guide

Meditation to Meet Your Fire Guide

Create a simple altar with an orange cloth and a red candle. Use an amber- or wood-scented incense. Take several deep, cleansing breaths. Get comfortable. Focus on your breathing and close your eyes. Visualize the gateway to the elemental realm of fire. Make the gate as strong and elaborate as you wish. How does it open? Take several slow, deep breaths. See the gate open and walk through it. Everything is dark. Before you is a pathway illuminated with candles on each side. It is a broad, safe pathway. Begin to walk down it. Slowly stars become visible in the dark sky. Take a moment to appreciate the twinkling lights. Focus on the candle flames and note that no two candles are exactly alike. They dance in various colors on the tips of the candles. You feel warm, safe and happy. Focus on your breath. Further on down the path you see your elemental guide for the realm of fire. Approach him slowly and greet him warmly. Listen to what he has to say. When you have heard all you wish, thank him and then turn to go back up the path. As your approach the gateway you notice it is still open. Walk through it. Take several slow deep breaths and then open your eyes. Write down all you learned in your journal. Close your personal circle.

CANDLE MAGIC 101

CANDLE MAGIC 101
1. One of the simplest of magical arts which comes under the deading of natural magic is candle burning. It is simple because it employs little ritual and few ceremonial artifacts. The theatrical props of candle magic can be purchased at any department store and its rituals can be practiced in any sitting room or bedroom.
2. Most of us have performed our first act of candle magic by the we are two years old. Blowing out the tiny candles on our first birthday cake and making a wish is pure magic. This childhood custom is based on the three magical principals of concentration, will power and visualization. In simple terms, the child who wants his wish to come true has to concentrate {blow out the candles}, visualize the end result {make a wish} and hope that i will come true {will power}.
3. The size and shape of the candles you use is unimportant, although highly decorative, extra large, or unusually shaped candles will not be suitable as these may create distractions when the magician wants to concentrate on the important work in hand. Most magicians prefer to use candles of standard or uniform size if possible. Those wichare sold in different colors for domestic use afe ideal.
4. The candles you use for any type of magical use should be virgin, that is unused. Under no circumstances use a candle which has already adorned a dinner table or been used as a bedroom candle or night-light. There is a very good occult reason for not using anything but virgin materials in magic..Vibrations picked up by secondhand materials or equipment my disturb your workings and negate their effectiveness.
5. Some magicians who are artistically inclined prefer to make their own candles for ritual and magical use. This is a very practical exercise because not only does it impergnate the candle with your own personal vibrations, but the mere act of making your own candle is magically potent. Specialist shops sell candle was and moulds together with wicks, perfumes, and other equipment.
6. The hot was is heated until liquid and then poured into the mold through which a suitably sized wick has already been threaded. The wax is then left to cool and once is thishas occured the mold is removed, leaving a perfectly formed candle. Special oil-soluble dyes and prefumes can be added to the wax before the cooling process is complete to provide suitable colors and scents for a particular magical ritual. Craft shops which sell candlemaking supplies can also provide do-it-yourself books explaining the technicalities of the art to the beginner.
7. Once you have purchased or made your ritual candle it has to be oiled or ‘dressed’ before burning. The purpose of dressing the candle is to extablish a psychic link between it and the magician through a primal sensory expreience. By phsically touching the candle during the dressing procedure, you are charging it with our pwn personal vibrations and also concentrationg the desire of your magical act into the wax. The candle is becoming an sxtension of the magician’s mental power and life energy.

Casting Simple Candle Spells

Casting Simple Candle Spells

The light and warmth of a candle’s flame provides one of our most powerful connections to fire – the element of creativity, life and health.

Remember the first time you made a wish as you blew out the candles on a birthday cake? As a child you believed your wish would come true and had an innocent faith that something magickal would happen. You probably didn’t realize it, but as you visualized the end result (making a wish), concentrated upon it (blowing out the candle) and hoped your wish would be granted, you were casting your very first candle spell.

Paper, Ribbons and scents can also be combined with candles to cast simple spells.

Getting Started:

Candle magick is very simple – but highly effective. From the tealights that warm your essential oil burner, to the romantic candles on your dinner table, you probably have everything you need in your house already. All that needs to be added is the knowledge of how to choose the appropriate candles for your purpose and how to use it to weave magick.

The Magickal Power Of Candles:

Colour – As candles give out light, their power lies partially in the visual realm of the colour spectrum. As colours have strong magickal associations, choosing the appropriate one for your candle can help to strengthen the power of your wish.

Transformation – Fire holds the power of transformation and purification. It can burn away your bad habits and carry your good intentions out into the world in its smoke.

Connection – People all across the world have lit candles for centuries. Close your eyes as you light yours and feel yourself connecting to your neighbours and ancestors.

Invocation to Psyche

Deep within every soul
Is the longing for Love,
Yet Love is often cruel to that soul.
Love must not keep the soul in darkness,
Living only by Love’s rules,
Nor hide its face behind many masks,
For soon or late the night will come
Of reckoning, light, and betrayal.
The soul is willing to toil for Love,
Sorting through its hopes and fears.
The soul is willing to brave danger for Love,
Gleaning what it can from anger’s leftovers.
The soul is willing to seek far and high for Love,
Diving from impossible cliffs.
The soul is willing to go into darkness for Love,
Yet it must be given the right to refuse
And it must be appreciated in its own right,
As the divine gift
That it is.

Chant:
Love to soul,
Soul to darkness,
Darkness fades to light.
Soul to love,
Love to morning,
Sun gives way to night.

(All go forward and set lit candles about the altar in a circle, and then process out.)

The things that now exist become what I desire
The tides of Magic answer unto me”
Then, you need a tarot deck. Cards needed: Justice, The World, and nine of cups
Candles needed: gray, orange, indigo, purple, black, and gold.

Orange light to change my luck and give me power.
Indigo strength to stop gossip and lies.
Purple power to break bad luck and drive away evil.
Great black walls to protect me from my enemies.
Sun-gold beams to give me fortune and success.
I stand surrounded by these powerful lights.
I ask the dragon’s help to succeed in my case.”
Concentrate a few moments on the cards and your objective.
After this you must say the closing chant:
“My thanks to the dragons, great and small, who came to answer my call,
We wove the Magic, wild and free, And as I will, so shall it be.”
Place the candles in a safe place so they will not catch anything on fire,
such as a sink or even in the bath tub, and allow them to burn themselves out.

Perhaps you birthed us
Or were there to greet us
As we entered the world.
Perhaps you fed us, cleaned us,
Held us when we cried,
Sang us to sleep, taught us
Many skills, or perhaps
You merely led by example.
Perhaps you were tied to us by blood
Or by marriage, or simply came
Into our lives when it was needed.
Perhaps you were a parent to our bodies,
Or to our minds, or to our hearts,
Or to our souls.
However it was, you were there,
And we are grateful,
For the flame you kindled
Has warmed us ever since,
And we will pass it on.

(Each steps forward, lights a candle, and speaks the name of a parent, or one who has parented them, and everyone else calls it back to them, as in “I honor Maria, my stepmother who taught me to read!” “We honor Maria!” The next person lights their candle from the last one, until the ritual is over. At the end, all chant in two-part harmony the names they have spoken.)

Each group goes to a different room in the building and shines the light of their candle into all dark places, corners, closets, under beds and in drawers, bringing light and the gaze of Amaterasu into all places. Then the candles are returned to Her altar to burn down, and are not snuffed until sunset.)

To Return a Hex

To Return a Hex

Light three black candles, and as they burn, speak this charm for thrice return:

Broken this spell, broken this curse,
By these candles, by this verse.
Reflected back, three times three,
Your hexes have no effect on me.
Curse return, by candles three,
Burn away and set me free.
Live and learn, crash and burn,
Three times three, this hex return.
With harm to none, this lesson be told;
Whatever is sent out, returns three-fold.

Allow the candles to burn themselves out. Do this five nights in a row, during the Waxing Moon, at dusk – as the sun dies and darkness descends

Make Beeswax Votives to Manifest Your Desires

Make Beeswax Votives to Manifest Your Desires

by Sylvana

When I first began in the Craft, you couldn’t just go down to Larry’s Market or Fred Meyer’s and buy spell candles, as you can now. Neither could you find witchy stores like Edge of the Circle, Travelers or Odyssey Books. In those days, we made our own spell candles, oils, incenses and tools, or we had things handed down to us and given to us as gifts by our high priest and priestess or coven mates. We also sometimes converted everyday items to our magickal purpose, like the silver dinner bell I still use in ritual today and my antique trivets that serve as wards for our covenstead.

Sometimes, I am glad to have the luxury of purchasing ready-made seven-day candles, like the green “Money Drawing” or “Protection” or the blue and white “Harmonious Home.” But I fondly remember the days when all of us witches made our own candles. This time of year is traditional for the making and blessing of candles, and my coven still gets together at Imbolc for celebration, feasting and to make and bless candles for our coven and personal use. Making them yourself imbues them with your own energy and purpose, as well as making them a more powerful tool for your magick — besides, it’s fun!

If you’d like to create your very own spell candles and don’t have a coven or group to make candles with, this article will tell you how, with a little effort, you can construct and bless your very own magickal spell candles. The instructions following discuss making short spell votives, but you can easily adapt the approach for bigger candles.

You will need:

* A sharp knife or craft knife

* A metal-edged ruler or straight edge

* Small pieces of paper in various colors

* Pens, colored pencils or crayons

* Beeswax sheets in various colors

* Wicking

* Herbs and flowers

* Oils

* Small tokens, coins or stones

* Wax paper

* Cutting board

* Scissors

You can purchase the beeswax in craft stores or candle supply shops; it generally comes in 6-x-9-inch sheets. Look for colors that correspond to your magickal purpose:

* Red: Lust, passion, health, animal vitality, courage, strength

* Pink: Love, affection, friendship, kindness

* Orange: Sexual energy, earth energy, adaptability, stimulation

* Brown: Earth energy, animals

* Yellow: Intellect, mental energy, concentration

* Green: Finances, money, prosperity, fertility, growth

* Blue: Calm, healing, patience, peace, clairvoyance

* Purple: Spirituality, the fey, meditation, divination

* Black: Waning moon, release, banishing, absorbing and destroying negativity, healing

* White: Waxing or full moon, protection, purification, peace, awareness; good for most workings

One sheet of each color wax that you want to use should be enough to begin with, as it will make about four votive-size candles. Fresh beeswax should have a distinctive scent and be soft and pliable, not brittle. Fairly thick cotton (not lead) wick is preferable as beeswax burns fairly fast. Ask the store for recommendations if you’re unsure what exactly to get.

Assemble all of your ingredients and tools, with plenty of room to work. Choose a sheet of beeswax and some herbs or flowers and maybe an oil that are all in accordance with your purpose. To learn more about the associations for herbs, flowers and oils, check tables of correspondence such as are found in many basic books on the Craft. You’ll need only tiny amounts of the herbs and flowers, because if you add too much, your candle will turn into a torch! Also, if you like select an appropriate token or write the candle’s purpose on a tiny piece of paper to add to the candle.

To create a candle, lay a sheet of beeswax onto a sheet of slightly larger wax paper on top of your cutting board. Measure in 2-inch increments down from the top of the beeswax sheet along the edge of the long side, and make a mark on both sides of the wax (see Figure 1). Lay the straight edge along both marks, and cut so that you have about four wax pieces, each about 2 by 6 inches. This will be enough to create at least four votives per sheet of wax, depending on how large the sheet is and how small you cut the pieces. Next, cut a piece of wick about 2&fraq12; inches long, and lay it onto the beeswax along the edge of one side (see figure 2) so that the wick is flush with what will be the bottom of the candle and is protruding from the top by a bit.

Begin rolling the candle by folding the very edge of the wax over the wick and pressing down gently to stick the wax in place (see figure 3)

Then begin to roll the wax firmly around the wick so that it creates a tight roll; once you have one layer of wax around the wick, stop. Sprinkle a tiny amount of herbs or flowers evenly down the length of wax next to the wick roll (figure 4). Place your paper or token inside the candle, near the bottom. Then roll some more, sprinkle some more, brush a tiny bit of oil on at about the middle of the roll and continue until the candle is completely rolled and is about the size of a regular votive candle (figure 5). Seal the wax edge by pressing it down firmly against the candle, while not smashing the candle.

Once you have finished all of your spell candles, do a ritual and raise energy to bless and consecrate them to your purpose. I like the simple blessing following.

A Candle Blessing

Set up an altar with your usual tools, where you can easily move around it. Place your candles on the altar, along with a small amount of wine or juice and a few cookies or pieces of bread. Cast your circle in your customary way. Call whatever elements, gods, quarters and so on that you normally call. When you are ready, raise your athamé or wand to the eastern sky, draw it down in an arc to point toward your pile of candles and say the following:

“Element of air, imbue these candles with magick! Let them carry my intention on the winds and back to me. Infuse them with inspiration and the strength of my will. Thank you for your presence! So mote it be!”

Draw the athamé to the southern sky and down toward the candles, saying:

“Element of fire, energize these candles to my purpose! Bring your warmth and light to me. Let your heat turn reality to my will. Thank you for your presence! So mote it be!”

Turn now to the western sky, and draw the athamé down toward your candles, saying:

“Element of sacred waters, heal my magick. Make my purpose clean, and let my magick flow free. Cleanse all for the best; heal all I touch. Let your healing power flow. Thank you for your presence! So mote it be!”

Turn finally to the northern sky, and draw the athamé toward your candles, saying:

“Element of earth, bring my magick into being. Bless these candles, and let them burn true. Bring grounding and practicality to me. With your deep power please imbue them. Thank you for your presence! So mote it be!”

Ask the god and goddess of your choice (and any other beings that you work with) for their blessings.

Then chant the following, slowly and softly at first, then picking up energy as you go:

“Candles burn oh so bright, bring my desires every night and day. Candles light my magick spell, now draw success my way.”

When the energy has reached its peak, direct it into the candles. Ground out any excess energy. Have cakes and wine, and offer a libation to the elements and gods for their participation. Then close your circle.

Now your magickal spell votives are ready for you to use for your spells or whenever you need them. Have fun, and may all of your magick be wondrous!

Caution: When burning candles, make sure to always place them on something nonflammable and do not ever leave one of these candles burning alone, even for a second, as they sometimes flare up or fall over and can easily ignite anything in range. Be careful also of wearing flammable clothing around these candles!

History of Candles

History of Candles

Candles have been used as sources of light for thousands of years. The ways in which these candles have been made has differed greatly over time. There has also been a wide variety of different ways in which candles have been fuelled and also a wide variety of different uses for candles. The humble candle has become a multi use item with thousands of benefits that go well beyond the initial use – to produce light.

The candle’s other primary function has been to provide heat and many versions of candles have been developed to maximise the heat output. Candles have been around for a long time and in this time they have been used in religious ceremonies and also for timekeeping as well as for decoration, for air freshening and also for adorning a birthday cake.

The products used to create candles are different all over the world and throughout time candles have been made out of different substances. Candles that were made in the early parts of the 19th century were made from beef fat rendering known as tallow. The modern candles are more commonly made from wax. There are many different types of wax including gel, soy and beeswax but the most predominant type of wax is paraffin.

Candles are typically made with a wick that is lit. This wick is covered in wax which melts and vaporises. This vaporised wax provides fuel to the fire and keeps the flame burning. This encourages the candle to burn slowly and last for a long time. The process is also beneficial as it is self sustaining and does not require the person to monitor the candle or relight it.

As the flame warms the wax into vapour it works slowly down the candle and slowly uses up the wax. This is an efficient method that makes candles last longer. The science behind the burning of a candle helps us understand the processes that go on when a candle burns. In the area of the candle that burns blue a reaction is taking place in which the hydrogen is being separated from the wax and is burning. This process results in water vapour. The yellowy section of the flame occurs as a result of the oxidisation process that sees carbon dioxide being created from the carbon.

The position of the wick as these processes take place is very important to the time in which the wax is fuelled. One way to slow the rate at which the wax is used up is to reduce the length of the wick. The shorter the length of the wick that is exposed the longer the candle will last. Many people often decide to cut their candle wicks short manually with scissors to lengthen the life span of their candles. There are even special instruments called wick trimmers that are designed to make this task easier.

There is evidence of candles that were in use in Roman times. At this period of time many candles were made from the animal fat residues and the long pith found in a rush. Beeswax was used as a fuel by the Egyptians and many of their candles date back over 3000 years. By the 18th century was much more common for the fuel to be extracted from the oil taken from sperm whales.
