A Thought for Today

Until we meet again blessed be dear sisters, brothers, and honored guests.

Spell for Today – Honey Jar and Candle Spell

This magic spell can be worked on anyone’s name you want to sweeten. Depending on what relationship the person has to you, what special items you put into the name-packet, the colour of candle you choose, and the oil you dress it with, this trick will cause the person you name to like you more, to love you more, to favour your petition, to want to help you, to be sympathetic to your cause, or to forgive any wrongs you have committed. It can be used to influence and sweeten a judge in a court case, a loan officer at the bank, a boss from whom you want a raise, a teacher in your school from whom you want a good grade, a lover with whom you want a reconciliation, an in-law who has been back-biting you, or friend who has cut you off because of a foolish quarrel.

The following ingredients are needed
a jar of sweetener (see below)
a piece of paper
a pen
optional herbs, curios, and/or bodily concerns (see below)
a candle (choose the appropriate colour at the candle magic page)
a candle-dressing oil such as Special Oil No. 20 or Love Me oil

Get a small jar of sweetener. This can be honey, Karo Syrup, Crystal Syrup, home-made brown sugar syrup, Log Cabin Syrup, Vermont maple syrup, Bre’r Rabbit Blackstrap Molasses or whatever you desire — as long as it is in a container with a metal lid. You can buy the goods in a pint-size glass Mason jar or pour the sweetening of your choice into a jar of your own at home. All that matters is that it should be a short, squat jar with a metal lid, filled up to the shoulder of the jar.

In the old days, when skin colour was a lot more important to people than it is now, it was recommended that the colour of the sweetener match the skin of the person you wanted to sweeten. Thus, for a white judge, you might use Crystal Syrup, and for a Latino loan officer you might use light brown sugar syrup, and for a dark-skinned lover you might use Bre’r Rabbit Blackstrap Molasses. Frankly, these days specifying a person’s skin colour is not as meaningful as it once was (for which we can all be thankful), and today many folks prefer to use honey for the spell, no matter what the target’s skin colour is, because it is a natural sweetener and not man-made. I believe that if you just follow your own intuition and decide which sweetener you like the best, you can be confident that you have made the right choice.

Next, prepare your paper. Again, in the old days, we would be told to use white paper for a white person, tan paper for a high-brown, and rough old grocery-bag paper for a person of dark colour, but these days the type of paper you use can simply be a matter of personal style. I use the smooth, tan-coloured light-weight shopping bag paper because that is my choice, based on the way i was taught, which was that such paper is “pure paper” and better than parchment from the art-supply store. I prepare my paper by tearing it neatly on all four sides so there is no machine-cut edge. Of course some folks prefer parchment paper more, and they trim it square with scissors — and the spell still works for them. So go ahead and prepare your paper just as you wish and that will suffice.

Once you have got your paper together, write the person’s name three times on it, one name under the other like so

Jane or John Doe

Jane or John Doe

Jane or John Doe

Then you rotate the paper 90 degrees and write your own name across the person’s name, also three times:

Your Name

Your Name

Your Name

The result will be that the two names are crossed over each other, like a cross or a tic-tac-toe grid, and the other person’s name will be under yours. This is called crossing and covering their name. If the sweetening is being done for love, you can use a red ink pen. Otherwise, the colour of the ink does not matter. Now all around the crossed names, write your specific wish in a circle. If you need a guideline, lightly sketch the circle-shape with a pencil and then follow around it when writing with your ink pen. You must write your wish in one continuous run of script letters, with no spaces — AND WITHOUT LIFTING YOUR PEN FROM THE PAPER. Do not cross your t’s or dot your i’s. Just write the words in one run and be sure to join up the end of the last word with the beginning of the first word so the circle is complete. Then you can go back and cross your t’s and dot your i’s. To make it easy to connect the word together at the end, i have found it best to make my petition in the form of short commands, such as “help me favour me help me favour me” or “love me love me love me” or “forgive me come back forgive me come back.”

If you make a mistake — for instance, if you lift your pen in the middle of writing your petition-circle — throw away the paper and start it all over again. You want it to be perfect.

Other ingredients can be added to the name-paper if you wish — a piece of court case root for a court case spell, two rose petals for a love spell, a lump of sugar for a family member, two clove buds for friendship, bayberry root or sassafras root for a money spell, a pair of Adam-and-Eve roots for love, two small Lodestones for sexuality, a pinch of deer’s tongue leaves for a proposal of marriage, a square of camphor for cleaning out bad things of the past, and so forth.

If you are sweetening someone for love, then in addition to the name-paper and whatever optional herbs, roots, or minerals you choose, you must also get one of the person’s hairs and one of your hairs. If the hairs are long enough, tie them together. Otherwise, just lay them crosswise to each other. In either case, place them on the name-paper. Don’t ask me what to do if you can’t get their hairs ’cause I can’t help with that. Either work the spell without the hairs and expect a much lower rate of success or get the hairs! Don’t load the paper up with lots of other stuff thinking that if you can’t get the hairs that six different love-herbs and two lodestones will be as strong as two hairs. They won’t be.

Fold the paper toward you to bring what you want your way and speak aloud your wish as you do so. Turn the paper and fold it again, and again, always folding toward you, to bring what you want your way. Speak aloud your wish each time you fold the paper toward you. Fold it until it will not fold any more.

Open the jar of honey or syrup. To make room for the folded paper packet, you will need to eat some of the contents. Take out a spoon’s worth, and as you eat it, say, “As this honey [or syrup] is sweet to me, so will i become sweet to John Russell Brown [or the name of the person you are working this on].” You can do this three times — taking out three small spoonsful of sweetener and speaking your wish aloud each time. Push the folded paper packet down into the jar and close up the lid.

Dress an offertory candle (a 50 cent, 6″ long candle or a 25 cent 4″ long one, nothing fancy) with an appropriate anointing oil, or use Special Oil No. 20, which is specifically indicated in this type of spell. Use a white candle for general blessing and healing, a red one for sexual love, a pink one for reconciliation, a brown one for a court case, and so forth. (For a longer list of colour symbolism, see the page on candle magic.)

Stand the candle on the lid of the closed-up jar and light it. You can melt the candle to the lid with hot wax if need be.

Let the candle burn all the way out. Do this every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, for as long as it takes. Add teach new candle on top of the remains of the last one. I have seen people’s syrup-jar spells like this done for court cases that were continued for so long and required so many candles that you could not see the jar under all the dripped-on wax!

Explanation: In one of the brightest parts of Milky Way lies a nebula where some of the oddest things occur. NGC 3372, known as the Great Nebula in Carina, is home to massive stars and changing nebulas. The Keyhole Nebula (NGC 3324), the bright structure just below the image center, houses several of these massive stars. The entire Carina Nebulacaptured here, spans over 300 light years and lies about 7,500 light-years away in the constellation of CarinaEta Carinae, the most energetic star in the nebula, was one of the brightest stars in the sky in the 1830s, but then faded dramatically. While Eta Carinae itself maybe on the verge of a supernova explosion, X-ray images indicate that much of the Great Nebula in Carina has been a veritable supernova factory.

A to Z – A Wiccan Glossary (Flashback from Lady Abyss)

A to Z – A Wiccan Glossary

AKASHA: the spiritual ether (or Aether); the omnipresent fifth occult element which embraces the other four-earth, air, fire, and water; and from which they stem. This is the realm of “pattern” or causality, from which the realm the normally thought of “five senses manifests. Some define it is the “other” of the “two worlds” that the witch or magician walks between.

ARADIA: Daughter of the Goddess Diana, and a name for the Goddess used by Italian Witches or Strega, commonly used in many Wiccan traditions today.

ASPECTING: Any advanced magickal activity in which a practitioner manifests a particular aspect of the Goddess or God, in thought, feelings, behavior, appearance, etc.; Often as a direct result of a “Drawing Down”. Often a minor variation of this phenomena occurs with the selection of a “Magical Name”, of Craft Name.

ASPECTS: Forms, facets, or personas of Deity: for example, Brighid, Iseult,Eos, and Kore are all aspects of the Maiden, and the Maiden is an aspect of the Goddess

ATHAME: black handled, double edged dagger. Principally used to cast and dissolve the circle, for which purposes it is interchangeable with the magic sword. A tool of the “Element” of Fire in the Georgian Tradition and some others.

BELTANE: May Eve festival. One of the Ancient Celtic “Fire Festivals.” on this night, the cattle were driven between two bonfires to protect them from disease. Couples wishing for fertility would ” jump the fires” on Beltane night. Also the traditional Sabbath where the rule of the “Wheel of the Year” is returned to the Goddess. This Festival also marks the transition point of the threefold Goddess energies from those of Maiden to Mother.

BOOK OF SHADOWS: Traditionally hand copied book of rituals, recipes, training techniques, guidelines, and other materials deemed important to a Witch or a coven. Each tradition has it’s own standard version of the Book and each Witch’s book will be different as he or she adds to it with time from many different sources. Only another Witch can see your book of shadows. Also, traditionally, it may never leave your hands or possession until death, when it should be destroyed, or (in some traditions) returned to the coven to be disposed of.

BURNING TIMES: a term used by some Witches for the period of persecution in the Middle Ages and later. It is in fact a misnomer in some places, as Witches were only burned in Scotland, and on the continent of Europe. In England and the U.S., they were hanged.

CANDLEMAS: Festival held on Feb. 1. One of the 4 Celtic “Fire Festivals. Commemorates the changing of the Goddess from the Crone to the Maiden. Celebrates the first signs of Spring. Also called “Imbolc” (the old Celtic name). This is the seasonal change where the first signs of spring and the return of the sun are noted, i.e. the first sprouting of leaves, the sprouting of the Crocus flowers etc. In other words, it is the festival commemorating the successful passing of winter and the beginning of the agricultural year. This Festival also marks the transition point of the threefold Goddess energies from those of Crone to Maiden.

CARDINAL POINTS: North, South, East, and West, marked in the Georgian Tradition by candles of green, red, yellow, and blue, respectively. The Circle is drawn to connect these four points.

CHALICE: one of the tools of the Witch. Placed on the altar to represent the element of Water.

COVEN: an organized group of Witches, led by a High priestess and/or a High Priest who meet regularly for worship and fellowship. The traditional membership is 13, but in fact most covens number considerably less. 3 is the minimum in the Georgian Tradition. COVENSTEAD: regular meeting place for a coven. Usually the home of the High Priestess or High Priest.

Home Protection Powder: A Simple Spell Recipe

From spells8.com

Whether you just moved into a new home or you’ve been living in your home for a while, it is always a good idea to cast a protection spell over your space. This process doesn’t have to be elaborate or complicated. In fact, it generally involves about two steps: cleansing the space and then protecting it. Any other steps in the process are entirely optional and can add to the potency of your spell. If you are in search of a simple protection spell for your home, be sure to read this post to the very end!

Why bother about the energy of your home?

Believe it or not, the energy of your home can have an effect on your physical, mental, and spiritual well-being. This energy usually accumulates over time, but certain factors can play a role in how quickly unpleasant energy settles into your spaces. For example, if you spend a lot of time in emotionally charged situations during the day, you may end up bringing some unpleasant energy home with you. This energy may accumulate faster than if you spent your days in more pleasant or neutral situations. Surrounding yourself with unpleasant energies could lead you to feeling drained, grouchy, and generally not spiritually well in your own home.

Energy can also accumulate due to other people in your life. This includes people you let into your home such as family, friends, and even employees, and people that don’t come into your home but still send their energy in your direction. Putting up a magical protective barrier around your home can help to protect against physical damage such as break-ins, storms, or similar. It can also help protect your home against magical or psychic attacks from others or keep a wandering spirit from making itself too comfortable.

Clearing your home of unpleasant energies and protecting it from external energetic forces is very simple. Keep reading for some tips to get you started.

Make a Connection

Whether you are an animist or not, spend some time in your space. Light some incense if you want, play some nice music, and meditate in the heart of your home. Close your eyes and focus on your surroundings. Your home knows what it needs. If you listen well enough, it will tell you.

Clearing it Out

Once you’ve made the decision to clear out the energy from your home, it’s time to get to work. But what does clearing a space even mean? Well, you are going to be removing all energy from the space. This process clears out the energy, both good, bad, and otherwise, to leave room to call in what you want. If it makes it easier, you can think of this as an energetic cleaning rather than a physical one, though the two may look similar and utilize similar tools. This is step one of a good home protection spell.

One of the easiest methods of clearing a space is to clear it as you clean it. Charge your cleaning supplies with your magickal intention. You can do this by holding them firmly or holding your hands over them and speaking your words of intention over them. This could sound something like, “As I physically clean my space, so too do my cleaning supplies clear my home of unwanted energies and entities.” Then you use them to physically clean your space. At the same time, the energy you put forward to charge your supplies will also magickally clear the space.

Another method of clearing your space would be through the use of smoke or sound. You can burn special incense or herbs that have cleansing properties. One popular herb to burn for cleansing is rosemary, but any that you find clearing will work just as well. If you can’t use smoke you can cleanse with sound through clapping or bells. You can also use homemade cleansing sprays, too.

Calling it In

Once you’ve cleared your space, you will want to call something in to fill it. This step is optional, but keep in mind that nature doesn’t like a vacuum and nothing is truly empty for long. Use this step to call in the energy you want in your home. This can be done by playing some calming music, burning some relaxing or joyful incense, or decorating your home with pleasant flowers. Again, this can all be customized to suit your needs and desires for your space.

Choose Your Ingredients

Once your space is cleared and you have called in the energy you want, now it’s time to protect that energy. We are going to be making a salt powder to be used at the thresholds of our home. For this step, be sure to have some salt on hand. Salt is a wonderful protective ingredient to use in your powders, and for this recipe, it is the base ingredient. Salt is good for repelling and absorbing negative energy, keeping the energy that crosses your threshold in line with your intentions.

Along with salt, here are some more ideas of protective herbs you can include in your recipe.

Rosemary

Vervain

  • Rosemary – for protection (can substitute other protective herbs)

  • Jar or Bowl – for mixing the ingredients together

DIRECTIONS

  • Get your Salt

Salt is protective and also repels negative energy. It is a good foundational ingredient for any witch to have and makes a simple base for our spell.
  • Get your Rosemary

Rosemary is an herb that is commonly used for protection. In this case, you can use dried rosemary, fresh rosemary, or even substitute with an essential oil or other protective herb.
  • Mix it Together

In your bowl, mix the salt and your protective herbs together. As you mix them, you can call on your guides, Gods, or other spirit allies to help you if you want. Stir in a clockwise motion to combine the ingredients as you say the following.
  • Sprinkle it Around

With your mantra or affirmation in mind, sprinkle the salt mixture along every threshold and entry into your home. Include all doors, windows, and walkways. You can even repeat the above incantation if you’d like, drawing on the energy of the salt mixture as you do so.

Split the Universe

Image Credit: NASA, Erwin Schrödinger’s cat

Explanation: Just now, before you hit the button, two future universes are possible. After pressing the button, though, you will live in only one. A real-web version of the famous Schrödinger’s cat experiment clicking the red button in the featured astronaut image should transform that image into a picture of the same astronaut holding one of two cats — one living, or one dead. The timing of your click, combined with the wiring of your brain and the millisecond timing of your device, will all conspire together to create a result dominated, potentially, by the randomness of quantum mechanics. Some believe that your personally-initiated quantum decision will split the universe in two, and that both the live-cat and dead-cat universes exist in separate parts of a larger multiverse. Others believe that the result of your click will collapse the two possible universes into one — in a way that could not have been predicted beforehand. Yet others believe that the universe is classically deterministic, so that by pressing the button you did not really split the universe, but just carried out an action predestined since time began. We at APOD believe that however silly you may feel clicking the red button, and regardless of the outcome, you should have a thought-provoking day. Or two.

“Hello Everyone,

Shortly after I had my brush with death in September of ’06 I started to “wake up again” and wondered about my life. I started to make friends with other people in metaphysics who helped me understand my true self.

I started to attend many lectures and met many mediums and channelers and mystics and healers. They told me some of the Spiritual Beings in my energy field. Many of them as well my friends told me “You have no idea how powerful you are”. Learning about these new Spiritual Beings made me feel like was like a kid in a metaphysical candy store. I was having so much fun! I also was learning the metaphysics of energy healing. It was so fascinating!

Then in 2010 I joined a Metaphysical Church and the leader was Reverend Debbie and on the third Sunday of each month she had healing Sundays. I was a part of the group and soon Reverend Debbie noticed my very powerful and yet soft energies and so did the other members and I started to do my own healings.

I was invited to many metaphysical gatherings because I was getting noticed in the metaphysical community and I started to do my healings by request but because I wasn’t certified at that time I just asked for a donation. Almost everyone told me that my left hand felt like a hot pad or that they felt like static electricity was coming from my hand.

It was also at this time I became a “student” of the Archangel Metatron channeled message teachings which was very profound because Metatron is very technical and complex but I was fascinated by what I read.

Some friends highly recommended that I go to my first Star Knowledge Conference founded by Chief Golden Light Eagle (Lakota Sioux) in November 2011 that changed my life. That was pure Indian energy and there were also several other Indian Chiefs and some Grandmothers too who were representatives of their own Nations. I quickly became friends with an Apache Grandmother and we exchanged phone numbers and she would call me or I would call her and we would talk for over an hour. Although she stopped going to Eagle’s conferences after 2014 we still kept in touch from time to time. I called her in the Spring of 2016 and she talked with her guides and they told her that I was of the White Wolf Clan and to take on the Spirit name White Wolf but Eagle does the naming in our family so I asked him for permission to start using that name and he liked it so he gave me permission. I asked him if I also needed the permission of the other Grandmothers and he said no so I thanked him for his permission. I really thought I knew a lot about metaphysics but when I got there I very quickly realized that I still had a lot more to learn and the energies were more powerful than anything I had experienced and I knew I had found my new spiritual family. Eagle came to Chicago twice in 2012 for lectures and I did lots of promotions for each lecture and just before Eagle’s 2012 conference in December I did a special favor for Eagle and just after the conference Eagle called me to invite me to a Lakota sweat lodge or what they call a purification ceremony and then I became a member of Eagle’s Star Knowledge Family and I am very honored by that.

In Native American teachings, the wolf is highly revered and considered a “medicine being” associated with courage, strength, loyalty and ancient wisdom. A white wolf or any white animal totem calls on us to open our hearts to the wild and to the sacredness of the earth with purity of thought so that we can heal our personal and collective wounds. A White Wolf in Native American teachings would therefore represent higher thoughts, purity and cleansing of spirit.

I discovered that I also have Metatron and other very powerful Spiritual Beings in my vast energy field. I had a Deep Matrix energy healing by my friend Kathy Georgen back in June of 2018 and that was when my Sixth Dimensional Family introduced themselves to me with Kathy’s help. They started to give me some of their 6D energy but it was very intense so they only give me tiny packets which are much easier to handle. I am very honored to have my 6D family with me guiding me.

And in March of 2020 I was invited to attend a small gathering near Serpent Mound, Ohio from my friend Eagle to meet Anna the Mitchell-Hedges Crystal Skull. So now I have Anna in my energy field. Anna is a very powerful and enlightened spiritual being and I am very honored to have her in my vast energy field.

I call my energy quantum because I am in the quantum consciousness or extremely high level of awareness and because of the extremely powerful healing energy I have.”

Deosil and Withershins

When casting, dancing or chanting in a circle for ritual purposes. Wiccans refer to the direction described as either “deosil” or “Withershins.”  When “deosil” (comes from the Irish Gaelic meaning, “turn to the right) is specified, this means clockwise, the direction in which the Sun apparently moves in the Northern Hemisphere, and in which circles are usually cast for positive magick. “Withershins” (or widdershins”) whose roots are embedded in the German words wider (“against”) and Sinn (‘sense’), means counterclockwise, and this is the banishing direction used for negative magick.

Messier 104

Image Credit: NASAESAHubble Legacy Archive;
Processing & Copyright: Ignacio Diaz Bobillo

Explanation: A gorgeous spiral galaxy, Messier 104 is famous for its nearly edge-on profile featuring a broad ring of obscuring dust lanes. Seen in silhouette against an extensive central bulge of stars, the swath of cosmic dust lends a broad brimmed hat-like appearance to the galaxy suggesting a more popular moniker, the Sombrero Galaxy. This sharp view of the well-known galaxy was made from over 10 hours of Hubble Space Telescope image data, processed to bring out faint details often lost in the overwhelming glare of M104’s bright central bulge. Also known as NGC 4594, the Sombrero galaxy can be seen across the spectrum, and is host to a central supermassive black hole. About 50,000 light-years across and 28 million light-years away, M104 is one of the largest galaxies at the southern edge of the Virgo Galaxy Cluster. Still, the spiky foreground stars in this field of view lie well within our own Milky Way.

A Thought for Today

As followers of a pagan tradition, we strive to get better in touch with the natural world around us. Which to me means we live “Earth Day” 24 hours 7 days a week 365 days a year not just one day out of every year. The Earth Goddess goes by many different names, The Great Mother, Mother Earth, Gaia just to name a few, so what you choose to call her stems from the tradition you follow or your own personal connection with her. But it all boils down to one thing she is the Goddess that gives us life and provides for us all the years and lifetimes we spend living on her. Is it right for society as a whole to disrespect her every hour of every day? Do we do not owe it to her to watch over her every day?

I live in the United States of Ameria and am disgusted at the way people will not walk even two feet to throw something in a trash receptacle but instead throw whatever on the ground. Or throw trash and cigarette butts out the window of a car to let the wind carry it to the curb or out into an open field. I am proud to say that I was taught and taught my children who taught their children to always leave a place no matter where it is cleaner than what we found it. I walk my two magickal companions two to three times every day, no matter where I might be living, and always pick up whatever trash others have so carelessly left in inappropriate places. I just take a plastic shopping bag with me (thankfully I can start using reusable bags for all my shopping again) and one throw away glove to pick up the trash and have a place to put it until I get home and put it in my trash can. This is something I also have done with my children and grandchildren. Where I live now there is an old railway tracks to the south of me next to an undeveloped lot and even though there are only about a dozen houses, one very small business, a school bus parking lot, and a private school in the area the amount of trash that blows into the bushes and trees along the tracks per week amazes me. I really do not understand how people can be so careless and disrespect of the only place humans and all the animals have to live on.

A little trivia for you – a cigarette filter ingested by any bird or small animal can cause its death. The filter swells up in the stomach and cannot be passed through the digestive system therefore sentencing whatever ingested it to a slow death through starvation.

I am a smoker so what I do when outdoors walking or without an ashtray at hand is roll the part of the cigarette with tobacco in it until it falls out, this will go back to the Earth Goddess, and stick the filter part in a pocket or keep it in my hand until I can dispose of it properly.

Another bit of trivia – It has now been scientifically proven that humans have microscope bit of plastic in our blood.

A simple meditation to bring us closer to the Earth Goddess:

This should be done outdoors whenever possible or if you cannot go outside or next to a window with some type of live plant you can at least put a finger onto the dirt that gives it life. Have a medium to large drink of water with you.

Take 3 or more deep breathes to center yourself for the mediation. Then keep your breathing at a steady rhythm. (If you start to lose your relaxed meditative state of mind concentrate on your breathing by saying in your mind, “Inhale…Exhale” until you once again can connect to the Earth Goddess)

Sit on the ground or floor. If you cannot sit on the ground or floor a chair with not a lot of padding will work also. Place your hands on the Earth Goddess directly or onto the dirt in the planter. Feel tentacles or roots growing down into the Earth Goddess from everywhere your body is touching her or the chair and planter.

Feel all the energy that is flowing through her and give her a bit of your own in thanksgiving for all she provides.

Listen to the sounds of nature that are around you – the birds singing, a flowing brook or other waterway, the wind, wildlife, ectara.

Imagine yourself as part of the air or water flowing with the rhythm of the energy you feel from the Earth Goddess.

Sit this way as long as you feel you want to.

When you are done thank her for what she has provided for you, your family, and the world at large. Pour some of your drink on to the ground or a tiny bit into the planter as an offering of thanks.

Take 3 deep breathes to help bring you back from the meditative state. Drink your water while still sitting where you meditated and continue listening to all the nature sounds around you until you feel like getting up. Then go about your day or evening but be more aware of everything around you that has in one way, or another been given to you by the Great Mother/Mother Earth/Gaia/ or whatever name you call her by.

I ask that you follow your heart to help make our Earth Goddess happier with the beings that live on her by picking up trash left by others and not littering yourself. Thank her daily for all she provides for us from her surface and what she has birthed for us from her body shelter, clothing, food, heat, electricity, ectara.  There is not one thing we use or touch that did not start with a raw material that came from the Earth Goddess.

Until we meet again blessed be dear sisters, brothers, and honored guests.

Planet Earth at Twilight

Image Credit: ISS Expedition 2 CrewGateway to Astronaut Photography of EarthNASA

Explanation: No sudden, sharp boundary marks the passage of day into night in this gorgeous view of ocean and clouds over our fair planet Earth. Instead, the shadow line or terminator is diffuse and shows the gradual transition to darkness we experience as twilight. With the Sun illuminating the scene from the right, the cloud tops reflect gently reddened sunlight filtered through the dusty troposphere, the lowest layer of the planet’s nurturing atmosphere. A clear high altitude layer, visible along the dayside’s upper edge, scatters blue sunlight and fades into the blackness of space. This picture was taken in June of 2001 from the International Space Station orbiting at an altitude of 211 nautical miles. Of course from home, you can check out the Earth Now.
