Moon Alert

Avoid shopping or big decisions from 4 AM to 2 PM EDT today (1 AM to 11 AM PDT). After that, the Moon moves from Gemini into Cancer.

Aries (March 21-April 19)

Even though this is Monday, it’s a lovely day to entertain at home. Enjoy friends, family and gatherings. Many of you will also enjoy redecorating or doing something to make your home look more attractive. If exploring real estate, caution against excess.

Taurus (April 20-May 20)

You’re in great spirits today, even though it’s Monday. (Go figure.) You feel optimistic and eager to talk to others, especially siblings, relatives and neighbours. You’re full of big ideas! Why not run them up the flagpole to see if anyone salutes?

Gemini (May 21-June 20)

In one way, this is an excellent day for business and commerce. You might boost your earnings today. However, because things are so positive looking, a financial situation might look better than it actually is. Keep your eyes open.

Cancer (June 21-July 22)

This is a marvellous day! Fair Venus is in your sign dancing with lucky Jupiter, which means you are happy and optimistic. Admittedly, you will prefer playing instead of working. Therefore, if you can goof off or play hooky – by all means, do so.

Leo (July 23-Aug. 22)

Solitude in beautiful surroundings will please you today because you want to do something to pamper yourself. (You will really welcome some downtime.) This is a busy time for you with the Sun and Mercury in your sign – you need a breather! (If you can swing it.)

Virgo (Aug. 23-Sept. 22)

At the beginning of the week, and this day in particular, it’s an excellent time for you to deal with friends, groups, classes and conferences. People will be glad to see your face. Furthermore, help from others as well as resources and equipment will be forthcoming. Yay!

Libra (Sept. 23-Oct. 22)

You make a very favourable impression on bosses, parents, teachers and VIPs today. This means it’s the perfect time to make your pitch or ask for something because people are so favourably inclined toward you. In fact, because of this influence, some of you might strike up a flirtation with a boss.

Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 21)

Your desire to escape somewhere, like an enjoyable pleasure trip, is tops on your menu. Basically, you want a change of scenery. You will also enjoy art exhibits, beautiful places and people from other cultures who are attractive and intriguing. Explore!

Sagittarius (Nov. 22-Dec. 21)

This is an excellent day to negotiate financial matters or discuss how to divide or share an inheritance or a specific amount of money because things will go your way. (You hold the Aces.) You might also receive gifts and promises from others or even cash. Nice!

Capricorn (Dec. 22-Jan. 19)

You will enjoy dealing with friends and partners today as well as members of the general public because fair Venus is opposite your sign dancing with Jupiter. Relations with groups will be positive and upbeat. You might attract someone to you who is helpful or beneficial in some way.

Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 18)

This is great day to relate to coworkers. By all means, accept their help. Work-related travel is likely today. Some of you might even strike up a work-related romance? You might also gain financial favours from your boss or your job. Fingers crossed!

Pisces (Feb. 19-March 20)

It’s Monday and you want to play! You certainly want to put pleasure before work. If you can play hooky – do it. Enjoy sports events, playful activities with kids, social outings, the arts and the entertainment world. This is a lovely day for a romantic date or any fun diversion.

If Your Birthday Is Today

Actress Miriam Shor (1971) shares your birthday today. You are friendly, warm and generous to others. Nevertheless, you have an air of mystery. Although playful, you are always respected. This year is slower paced, in part because you have a stronger focus on close friends and partnerships. This is the year to find relationships that benefit you. Ask for help if you need it.

Ear

(This is the last rune from this set)

Sound: “ea” as in “dear”
Stands for: Soil of Earth (actually the dust our bodies become after death)
Casting meaning: Ear symbolizes the grave that we will all return to. However the only way that we can die is because there was life to begin with. “Without life, there is no death and without time there is no life.” More generally Ear signifies the unavoidable end of all things.

Ruis

Regret, pride, shame, embarrassment, learning from experience, resolution

Tree: Elder (Sambucus spp.)

Letter: R

Shame isn’t all bad and does not deserve a uniformly awful reputation. Without shame and the fear of being shamed, every human child would be demonically bratty. Shame is a limit that informs us to keep our own ego in check. It is often about considering others. Having shame about one’s own past behavior is motivation to avoid shameful behaviors such as cheating and stealing.

Shame is an emotion that demands confrontation. All too often, people run away from what shames them, attempt to excuse themselves from wrongful or immoral behavior because they’re too cowardly to face what they have done or to admit their responsibility in causing their own misfortunes or the misfortune of others. Ruis indicates a willingness to face one’s own shame and to do with shame what it was meant for, and that is to use shame of the past to build oneself into a better person for the present and future. Ashamed of something you did? How can you make yourself into the type of person who would never even think of doing something like that? Overcome being the type of person who would engage in the shameful behavior and you become the master of it; you won’t have the remotest chance of repeating such a mistake. Did you become embarrassed because you did something you now understand to be greedy? Then learn to balance thriftiness with generosity. Adjust to the circumstance rather than overreacting to it. Are you ashamed about cheating on a boyfriend/girlfriend or spouse? Become a person who would never cheat on your boyfriend/girlfriend or spouse regardless of conditions, which could mean an assortment of outcomes: sticking to a resolution of no cheating and staying together, admitting one’s sexual preferences and going with the flow, changing the person you are with, or being single for a long time.

Because humans tend to remember negative experiences more easily than positive ones, it’s important when you draw Ruis to acknowledge the things you are not ashamed of about yourself. For every bad or shameful thing you’ve done, remember there are a thousand shameful things you avoided. Maybe it is time to appreciate the places you could have gone horribly wrong and did not.

Saturn in Infrared from Cassini

Explanation: Many details of Saturn appear clearly in infrared light. Bands of clouds show great structure, including long stretching storms. Also quite striking in infrared is the unusual hexagonal cloud pattern surrounding Saturn‘s North Pole. Each side of the dark hexagon spans roughly the width of our Earth. The hexagon‘s existence was not predicted, and its origin and likely stability remains a topic of research. Saturn’s famous rings circle the planet and cast shadows below the equator. The featured image was taken by the robotic Cassini spacecraft in 2014 in several infrared colors. In 2017 September, the Cassini mission was brought to a dramatic conclusion when the spacecraft was directed to dive into ringed giant.

Humans have officially made migratory monarch butterflies an endangered species and put them on “the edge of collapse”

Migratory monarch butterflies, known for their bright orange and spotted wings spectacularly filling the sky on a nearly 2,500-mile journey every year, are now “closer to the brink” of extinction. The International Union for Conservation of Nature announced the grim news on Thursday, saying that human activities that result in habitat destruction and climate change are mostly responsible.

The migratory monarch is a subspecies of the monarch butterfly and is known for its annual migration from Mexico to the U.S. and Canada. Over the past decade, its population has shrunk by between 22% to 72%, depending on the measurement method used, according to the IUCN

And the majority of that decline is, the group said, is because of people.

Logging and deforestation have destroyed substantial areas of the butterflies’ winter home in Mexico and California. Last year, the World Wildlife Fund and Mexico’s government issued a report that the monarch population that was in Mexico for hibernation in 2020 plunged by 26% compared to the previous year. In 2019, they had occupied nearly seven acres of Mexico’s hibernation forests, while in 2020, they occupied just over five.

The Monarch Butterfly Biosphere Reserve, where the majority of the migrating monarchs hibernate, lost a significant amount of trees leading up to the…

All Signs

Now and then we have a week when we need to defend ourselves from those who diminish us or wear us down. That week has arrived. Be on guard! They will emerge from beneath bridges, high hedges and the organic produce aisles. They might be in disguise, walking their miniature bull terrier, even bearing gifts! Do not get sucked into words that confirm your worst fears about yourself. Don’t beat yourself up for what you can’t or didn’t do. Stay strong. You are doing your best dealing with your life. Be kind. Help others. Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche said, “Do not take lightly small good deeds, believing they can hardly help. For drops of water one by one in time can fill a giant pot.”

Aries (March 21-April 19)

This is a tough week for romance, which is why lover’s quarrels might take place. It might also be a challenging week dealing with your kids. Take note: one of the challenges is the fact that this is an accident-prone time for your kids so be extra vigilant to keep them safe. Know where they are and make sure toddlers are free from hazardous situations. Authority figures, parents and people who are older might squelch you or be critical about your style for dealing with sports, creative projects, vacations and social outings – and dealing with your kids. Is there no justice? Fear not, with lucky Jupiter in your sign, you have divine protection.

Taurus (April 20-May 20)

Tread carefully this week. Without doubt, you will have difficulty dealing with family members, especially parents. They will be critical or block your actions and ideas. (Naturally, this will go over like a lead balloon.) However, your response might be a tad heavy because fiery Mars is in your sign. This makes you much more of a fighter for your own rights than usual. You won’t let anyone take anything away from you; and yes, you will be more irritable and touchy than usual. If attacked – you will respond! Helpful tip: Get physical exercise or do physical work to blow off any pent-up steam building within you. Heave ho!

Gemini (May 21-June 20)

I can’t sugarcoat this. Both the Sun and your ruler Mercury are in the part of your chart that is your “home.” And while they are sitting there this week, they are challenged by Saturn, Mars and Uranus! This means you will feel that rules, regulations and laws block what you want to do. Politics might even challenge you. Meanwhile, something going on behind the scenes will also create obstacles for you, to the extent that around Thursday, you’re in an accident-prone situation. Therefore, pay attention to everything you say and do. Be mindful and aware. Think before you speak or act, for your own benefit – and the benefit of others. Fingers crossed!.

Cancer (June 21-July 22)

All of us are facing challenges this week because four different planetary combination will be tough to deal with. In all likelihood, much of the frustration that you will feel this week will pertain to money, cash flow, earnings and anything to do with your possessions and your personal belongings. Be aware of this. For starters, you might want to keep some cash on hand. Most definitely, stay in touch with your bank account and your finances because something might impact or limit you. Guard your possessions against loss, theft or damage. Know what’s going on ahead of time so that you can do some damage control. By Sunday, things are fine and all this is in the past.

Leo (July 23-Aug. 22)

It’s time to adhere to the Boy Scouts motto: Be prepared! Why? Because you are in the firing line of tough planetary aspects this week, and many of them involve Mercury (the planet with domain over daily communications and our daily activities) – and right now, Mercury is in your sign! Oy vey! For starters, because Mercury will be at odds with Mars, you will be touchy, irritable and view many communications as a challenge. The worst scenario is you will feel you have to defend yourself, especially with bosses, parents and authority figures. Later in the week, life will be so fast-paced, it will be frantic. Meanwhile, you might feel isolated, lonely or separated from others. This is definitely the time to send out for dark chocolate. By Sunday, all is well.

Virgo (Aug. 23-Sept. 22)

This will be a relatively tough week to grapple with because your ruler Mercury is at odds with three different planets on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. Meanwhile, Mercury is hiding in your chart, which means you might feel powerless to deal with whatever annoys you. You might feel attacked, but you can’t actually do anything or say anything. Don’t let this upset you or get you down. For starters, it’s temporary, and by Sunday, things return to normal. Furthermore, a lot of what is happening will be your own point of view and your own negative perception. Look for activities and social diversions that please you. A friend will be a source of comfort and pleasure. Whew!

Libra (Sept. 23-Oct. 22)

You are a social sign. Furthermore, you are a people pleaser. You don’t like to rock the boat. Meanwhile, this week promises dissension, difficulties and stressful interactions with others – both friends and groups. (Disputes about shared property or inheritances are likely.) Obviously, you don’t like arguing with others. It’s good to know that the entire world is facing these challenges in different ways according to their sign. It’s not just you. Accept these upsets knowing that by Sunday, the dust will settle. Fortunately, with Venus at the top of your chart, you look good to others. Patience is the antidote to anger. Don’t fuel negative feelings. Instead, be part of the solution not the problem. You’ve got this.

Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 21)

You are the most strong-willed sign in the zodiac. When you’re unhappy – everyone knows about it. This week, you will likely encounter challenges and difficult times dealing with parents, bosses, authority figures and the police. Arguments and disputes, as well as sudden upsets, will be tough to avoid. Even family members and parents will get in the way, and slow you down or create further problems for you. If you can travel, this will be a welcome escape. (However, some of your challenges will be with a partner or close friend who might be travelling with you!) Be aware that you are high viz. People notice you. Be cool. Demonstrate grace under pressure.

Sagittarius (Nov. 22-Dec. 21)

Many of you are interested in philosophical ideas and politics. This is one reason why this week, you might encounter obstacles dealing with the media, higher education and medicine, as well as matters related to publishing. Legal issues and entanglements will be difficult. You might be upset by political situations or something you learn about in the news. You might even be in the news! Work-related travel will be challenging; in fact, potentially accident-prone so be careful. Conversations with siblings, relatives and neighbours might discourage you. This is tough because optimism and physical activity are survival issues for your sign. Get out and do some physical exercise. What you need overhead is sky.

Capricorn (Dec. 22-Jan. 19)

We all face a lot of challenges this week, and according to our sign, these challenges are slightly different. You might encounter serious obstacles related to financial matters. It might be tough to get a loan or mortgage. Something might be cancelled at the last minute leaving you high and dry. You might encounter disputes about shared property or inheritances. Insurance people might be tough to deal with. On top of this, financial matters in general, especially disputes about bills or taxes, might also be a headache. Fortunately, a close friend or partner will be supportive, like a replenishing oasis in the desert for you. There’s always hope. By Sunday, all is well.

Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 18)

This week, you might find it challenging dealing with a close friend, a spouse or a business partner. You might even feel that no matter what you do, you end up in the doghouse. Clashes, arguments and sudden upsets might take place, especially at home or within your family. These difficulties could trigger feelings of personal isolation, loneliness and depressing thoughts. But very likely, your problems seem worse than they really are. A lot of it is your interpretation of events. Keep in mind that the other person is suffering, too. In fact, this is a tough week for the entire world! Therefore, be happy with whatever fortunate circumstances you do have. Fortunately, issues related to your work will probably be fine.

Pisces (Feb. 19-March 20)

This is a challenging week for everyone; and these challenges will occur in different ways for different people, but they will exist for us all. You might find it difficult to deal with work colleagues. Issues related to your job might suddenly blow up in your face. This could be due to equipment breakdowns, late deliveries or some kind of surprise or unexpected interruption. If possible be smart and work ahead of time so that you have wiggle room to deal with the unexpected. Meanwhile, criticism from a boss or an authority figure could be a bummer. Fortunately, romance and social occasions will be a lovely escape. By Sunday all of this is history. Courage!
