Your Daily Horoscopes for January 13th

We seek new ways to fulfill our obligations today without feeling tied down by them. Cerebral Mercury’s visit to ingenious Aquarius provides ample mental stimulation and its creative alignment to responsible Saturn helps us see things from a new perspective. Meanwhile, the fickle Gemini Moon aspects both Mercury and Saturn, adding a sense of urgency to the situation. The tension eases when the Moon shifts into nurturing Cancer at 7:24 pm EST.

Aries Horoscope

(Mar 21 – Apr 19)

Even if you have been successfully holding it all together, your schedule might feel as if it could fall apart today. Luckily, this isn’t as chaotic as it sounds, for you are invigorated by the buzz of activity all around you. Respond to whatever unfolds with a high level of enthusiasm, for you may not be able to tell what’s most important until after the fact. In the meantime, keep your options open and enjoy the ride.

Taurus Horoscope

(Apr 20 – May 20)

You might want to tie up loose ends today, but whatever isn’t completed may not get finished for a few more days. Nevertheless, don’t give up. Your current attitude matters more than anything, so keep your attention on your goals even if they seem to be temporarily slipping away. Maintaining your optimism is key to establishing the foundation you need. Remember, the momentum you are building now fuels the next round of hard work.

Gemini Horoscope

(May 21 – Jun 20)

You may feel as if you cannot keep up with your own thoughts as the Moon continues to move through your sign today. Nevertheless, your willingness to talk about your ideas could prevent you from being overwhelmed. Remind yourself throughout the day to open your heart so you can hear the emotions behind what others are saying. Engaging in meaningful dialogue will help you gain a healthy perspective so you can sort out what matters the most in your life.

Cancer Horoscope

(Jun 21 – Jul 22)

A secret needs to come out into the open today, so you can integrate this information into your current plan. You might have big ideas about how you want to change the dynamics of a relationship, but may have a hard time knowing how to do it until you have all the facts. Carefully asking the right questions now helps you discover what you need to know. Nevertheless, remain open to surprises and keep your sense of humor close at hand.

Leo Horoscope

(Jul 23 – Aug 22)

Be wary of carefree friends who lure you into their dreams. In other words, fulfill your obligations and attend to your own plans for the future before going off in search of good times. A little self-indulgence sounds like innocent fun, making it tough to decline the invitation to play. Just remember that you probably won’t feel so proud later if you abandon your commitments for the pursuit of pleasure. Oddly enough, taking care of business brings more satisfaction in the long run.

Virgo Horoscope

(Aug 23 – Sep 22)

You are feeling stressed as you attempt to balance your responsibilities at work with your own career objectives. You want to be more responsive to the needs of your coworkers, but it may not be appropriate to step over certain formal boundaries. Even if there are big things happening in your private life, keep them to yourself for a while longer as you concentrate your efforts on your professional world. Don’t veer off track now when you are making so much progress.

Libra Horoscope

(Sep 23 – Oct 22)

Just when you thought you could stop and catch your breath, the pace picks up again. You might become so excited about all the possibilities today that it’s hard to calm your nerves. You have too much to share and it’s challenging to shut it off once you’ve started the conversation. As important as it is to get your feelings out in the open, don’t say anything you may regret down the road. A dash of self-restraint saves the day.

Scorpio Horoscope

(Oct 23 – Nov 21)

Others may perceive you as more lighthearted than usual. However, they could believe that you’re trying to evade a sensitive issue — and maybe you are — but you are doing it for a good reason. Chances are that you’re not in denial; you are just waiting for the best time to broach the subject. Trust your instincts to know when the moment is right. In the meantime, you might as well spread some cheer along the way.

Sagittarius Horoscope

(Nov 22 – Dec 21)

Your optimism might get the best of you today, for others won’t take you very seriously if you gloss over an important issue. It’s not that your positive thinking is problematic; it’s usually quite motivational. However, you could miss a crucial piece of information now that creates trouble and exposes sloppy thinking. Don’t make matters worse by pretending that you have all the answers. Be courageous and take responsibility for your actions.

Pisces Horoscope

(Feb 19 – Mar 20)

You can say all the right words today, but you may be disconnected from your true emotions. Uncharacteristically, your heart isn’t leading the way now; your head is temporarily in charge. But don’t be misled into believing you have to make a choice; it isn’t about one versus the other. Your current journey is all about creating a workable balance between your personal aspirations and your career ambitions

Daily Cosmic Calendar for Monday, Jan. 13th

After a good-sized void lunar cycle in Gemini yesterday, the Moon continues its void-dominated transit through the third sign of the zodiac until 4:26PM this afternoon when the Moon enters watery Cancer. The main thrust of a void twilight zone on a work-oriented Monday is not to pile up a lot of challenging situations that eventually lead to a crisis. Instead, strive toward simplifying your activities and finishing old projects with flair.  Helping you stay productive is a Moon-Ceres trine in air signs (7:33AM), an inspirational, 72-degree tie from Mercury to Saturn (2:51PM), and a Sun-Mercury parallel (5:40PM) — with this latter aspect happening once the Moon refreshes itself in Cancer’s waters (starting at 4:26PM).  Home and family matters are on center stage during the Moon’s two-day visit to the fourth sign of the zodiac. Immerse yourself in a bestseller or film classic as the Moon trines Neptune (11:42PM). Start gearing up for the enlightening Full Moon that arrives this Wednesday evening. [Note to readers: All times are calculated for Pacific Standard Time. Be sure to adjust all times according to your own local time so the alignments noted above will be exact for your location.]

Crystal of the Day – Malachite

Crystal of the Day – Malachite

Steady pulsing electromagnetic energy. (High copper content) Malachite and azurite are the same chemical, practically, Copper Carbonate. The only difference is the ordering of the elements in the molecule. On brow: Stimulates physical and psychic vision, concentration. For heart and solar plexus centers: Stomach, liver, kidney stones, lungs, immune system, radiation, MS, circulation. Powerful healer with azurite or chrysocolla for healing: Releases and draws out pain, inflammation, depression, anger; heals blocks. Protects well by powerfully cleaning the auric field, rapidly absorbing undesirable energies, including: computer, TV, and other radiation, etc. Place in the 4 corners of a room to cleanse carpet toxins/gases. Clean very frequently — daily if possible! . Often variegated and is one of the basic ores of Copper. Should be used with extreme care because it can amplify negative qualities. Caution must always be used when wearing it as jewelry. However, Malachite also magnifies the positive, and so it is useful if your mood is definitely on the upswing. It should not be used in healing without careful consideration of who is doing the healing. It is useful for relaxation and neurological disorders as well as tissue regeneration. It is said to awaken healing qualities and useful in fighting mental illnesses. Said to stimulate the optic nerve, help the pancreas, spleen, parathyroid, and help dyslexia. People living near nuclear power plants should keep pieces of Malachite in their homes, since Malachite may expel plutonium. A warning: Malachite in raw form has dust particles that are highly toxic and their ingestion should be avoided.

Herb of the Day – GINGER

Herb of the Day – GINGER

Acts as an aid to ingestion or colds (tea form). Also in tea form, good for cramps, to stimulate the digestive organs, migraines and nausea, external stiffness. Can be added to the bath as a way to ease pain and increase circulation, but only use a few sprinkles, not too much, like cayenne, ginger quickly brings the blood to the surface of the skin. For pain you can also soak cloths in ginger tea and apply them directly to the painful areas. A good healing tea is made from a pinch of peppermint, a pinch of ginger and either a pinch of clove powder or 2 bruised cloves, add 1 cup of hot water and steep. Ginger tea sweetened with honey can help alleviate cold symptoms.

Deity of the Day – BAAL

Deity of the Day – BAAL

He is the Canaanite Ruler God (like Marduk). Baal and Yam-Nahar origonally competed for kingship of the gods. The matter was brought before El, who decided in favour of Yam. Yam then proceeded with a reign of tyranny over the gods, and none of them felt they had the power to defeat Yam. So, they sent Asherah to entreat him to lossen his grip. Asherah even offered herself to Yam. Upon hearing this, Baal was enraged, and decided to defeat Yam. Yam got wind of Baal’s plan and sent messengers to El with the demand that Baal be delivered to him. El, afraid, agreed. Baal then taunted the gods for their cowardice and went to face Yam. He had two weapons made, Yagrush (chaser) and Aymur (driver). He struck Yam on the chest with Yagrush to no avail. Then he struck him on the forehead with Aymur and fell Yam to the earth. After Yam’s defeat, Baal had a palace built for himself; closely resembeling the story of Marduk. It also resembles Marduk’s story in that the Primeval Waters threatened the gods, and the High God and others were afraid to face them, with the exception of the soon-to-be Ruler God. The Baal epic then continues to describe his fight against Mavet. Baal is also a Storm God like Marduk, and a fertility god like Tammuz. Dagon is his father. Baal is the Canaanite God-force (the goddess force seems to be split between Anath and Asherah). Baal’s proper name is Hadad, relating to his storm-god aspect. Baal is really a title, meaning “Lord”.

Let’s Talk Witch – How to Explain Your Beliefs

Let’s Talk Witch – How to Explain Your Beliefs

When describing your beliefs to someone, it’s not always necessary to explain everything. It’s best to start with your personal beliefs, and then to segue into a longer explanation. It also helps to make connections between Neo-Pagan practices and the practices of other religions. Finally, you should be prepared to allay fears people have about magic and those wild Pagan orgies.

Share the Basics

When first explaining your beliefs, stick to a skeleton of your basic belief system. For a coworker, it’s enough to say something like, “I follow a nature religion.” You can answer further questions if you want to, but try to steer clear of talk about working skyclad. With friends, you can explain your beliefs a little more deeply. It’s okay to mention the deities you follow, your holiday celebrations, or anything else that seems appropriate. Your friend may or may not ask questions. If she does, then explain further. For example, if you’re asked if you believe in God, you can answer that you believe in a god and goddess. If you are asked if you worship Satan, you can explain that Satan is a Christian construct and that you don’t worship anything that could be construed as evil.

Answer the Questions

Family members and people you have a romantic connection to will ask the most questions. Work slowly, starting from the basics. Allow the person time to digest your answers and then think of new questions. You might want to invite them to attend a ritual with you, or send them a copy of a ritual so they can see what it’s like.

You will most likely be asked if you still celebrate the holidays of your original faith. Many Pagans choose to celebrate Christmas as a secular holiday and share the day with family and friends, just as they did before, but without the trip to church. Most Jewish Pagans find that their traditions work very well with Neo-Paganism and are able to honor both the Jewish and Pagan holidays. You can also explain that you honor the cycles of the sun and earth, or adhere to a holiday calendar that predates Christianity. You can point out that many of these celebrations continue in the regions where they originated.

Some Christians don’t know that Christ’s actual birth date is unknown. Christmas was first moved to December 25 in the fourth century, and was later set by Pope Gregory. The new date coincided with Pagan celebrations of Saturnalia, the winter solstice, and the birth of the sun god Mithras.

If you are asked specifically what you do, then give a very basic rundown of an average ritual. You will most likely be asked if you use magic. If you do use magic, you can explain that you don’t practice black magic or sacrifice animals during your rituals (unless you’re Santerían). Magic can be likened to prayer because both are tools for asking the gods for help.

The tools, especially ritual knives, usually arouse the most curiosity. Explain as much of it as you feel comfortable with. For example, you could explain that your athame is a symbol of the element of fire because steel is forged from fire. You don’t need to get into its relation to male energy and the symbolic Great Rite unless you already explained Beltane.

Make Connections Between Religions

When explaining your faith, it also helps to make connections to more familiar religions and holidays. For example, you can liken the goddess to Mary, mother of Jesus Christ, whom many Pagans honor as a goddess. When asked about Yule, explain that you celebrate the return of the light in the form of the sun god, spelled Sun. You can point out that the Christmas tree, holiday wreaths, and decorations are all pre-Christian practices.

If you use other practices, such as shamanic journeying or meditation, compare your practices to those of Native Americans or Buddhists. Other practices, like wearing a Celtic Cross pendant or hanging a Witch Ball in your window for protection, can be related to the folk traditions of Europe and the British Isles.

Allay Fears

When people hear the words heathen, Pagan, and Witch, all sorts of scary images are conjured up. Your family members may worry that you’ve joined a cult or gone off the deep end. You should clarify that you are not a sorcerer or the Wicked Witch of the West. You should explain that Pagans have no single leader, you’re not required to give all your money to anyone, and there is no strict dogma, so it would be difficult for you to be a member of a Pagan cult.

If a friend or family member insists on trying to “save” you, gently but firmly explain that you believe differently, but you appreciate the concern. You might want to give him a copy of a beginner’s book on your chosen path or direct him to an explanatory Web site.

Once you’ve explained your personal beliefs, your friends and family members may be less worried but might still have a few concerns. You may be asked if you have orgies in the forest. Even if you do, that might not be the right thing to tell your mom. You might be asked if you hex people. Again answer with a simple “no,” unless you want to get into a long conversation about magical ethics.

The most common fear is that you’ll become a different person. Reassure them that you are the same person you always were, and you just have a different religion. Chances are you had Pagan leanings before you made the conversion, and once they recognize that, they will be better able to accept your religious choices.

Celebrating Other Spirituality 365 Days A Year – Midvintersblot

Celebrating Other Spirituality 365 Days A Year

January 13 and 14

Midvintersblot/Saint Hilary’s Day

Midvintersblot or Midwinter’s offering, from called Tiugunde Day in Old England, was sacred to Tiu, the ancient Teutonic Chief God and ruler of the year. This festival falls 20 days after Yule and is when the runic half-month of Peorth commences.

This day was christened as Saint Hilary’s Day (for Hilary of Poitiers), the patron of backward children, who was invoked against snake bites. This time is traditionally the coldest point of the year and marks the time when marriages were once again permitted after the Christmas season

‘THINK on THESE THINGS’ for January 10th

‘THINK on THESE THINGS’
By Joyce Sequichie Hifler

Whenever we stop to consider where we are on the road of life, we might also think about why we are there. Whether it is success or failure, or wavering in the middle of the road, we are where we are because of someone or something.

Nearly every person can pinpoint the time in their life when there was a turning point, a change for worse or for the better. And usually there is someone to whom they give the credit for such a change.

Throughout our lives we contact many people, and they each leave an impression. As living continues the combination of all those thoughts and feelings and actions forms our opinions, our likes and dislikes, our fears and our loves. But there is one basic factor in all of this that turns us one way or other – the individual, the personal self. It is how we take life, what we expect, how we do our daily tasks, where we place our values that makes the difference.

We are born with the right to choose – and whatever we choose there will always be someone there to help us be good or bad. But first, we must give credit where credit is due.

Elder’s Meditation of the Day – January 10

Elder’s Meditation of the Day – January 10

“We cannot escape remembering the important things that have happened, and we cannot escape the awareness of the important things that have not happened.”

–Ralph Salisbury, CHEROKEE

There is a Master Plan. There are Natural Laws that run the universe. Everything on the earth has a purpose. Change is constant. That which is built is constantly being destroyed. That which is loose is being used to build new things. Nothing can be destroyed, only rearranged. Change will happen and every setback is only temporary. In other words, the Creator is in charge. We are not in charge. He designed the universe. He runs the universe and He will change what needs to be changed. As humans, it is easier for us to participate in all of this if we are spiritual. We need to be tuned in. Therefore, God gave us the spiritual concept of acceptance. When things change, we can change ourselves through the principle of acceptance.

Great Spirit, let me live today in acceptance of Your will. Today let us do it Your way.

January 10 – Daily Feast

January 10 – Daily Feast

When something in our minds rings a bell that warns us, we do well to listen. What is it that wants to lure us away from the chose path? Is it not from the good side? Then, run like a rabbit! Every one of us has a sounding board, as testing place that detects the way we are moving. Like a compass, it points the right way – and we are foolish not to understand – gohlga. To ignore the impressions that are within us is like trying to go through a door, but refusing to use the doorknob. It is one thing to be dense and another to be willfully determined to get lost in the wilderness. Listen to the alarm system. It is there for a good reason – and later on we won’t have to say that something told us not to go a certain way and we didn’t listen.

The Daily Motivator for Jan. 10th – Peace on the inside

Peace on the inside

You can choose to be active and involved on the outside while being fully at  peace on the inside. It is a powerful way to live.

You can let all the changes and dramas, the comings and goings, and the ups  and downs inspire and inform you. But you don’t have to let it all get to you.

There is a part of you that is whole and authentic and imperturbable. It is  there that peace always lives.

Let the outer part of you be enthusiastically involved in the brilliant,  exhilarating confusion and complexity of what’s going on. Let the inner part of  you put it all in perspective.

It is authentic, deep-seated peace on the inside that enables you to be  highly effective on the outside. Nothing can get to you or bring you down if  you’re already filled with the best there is.

Choose to let a peaceful presence fill the deepest part of you. Allow that  peace to give great power to all you do.

Daily OM for Jan. 10th – Influencing the Tone of Your Life

Influencing the Tone of Your Life
Color

by Madisyn Taylor

Color has the ability to trigger our emotions, affect the way we think and act, and influence our attitudes.

When we enter a room or see an object for the first time, our minds register its color before any other detail. The colors our eyes can perceive are like words that form a subtle language of mood, energy, and insight. Color can exert a gentle effect on the mind and the body, i

nfluencing our dispositions and our physical health. Color has the ability to trigger our emotions, affect the way we think and act, and influence our attitudes. You unconsciously respond to the color of the walls in your home, your car, your clothing, and the food you eat based on your body’s natural reactions to certain colors and the psychological associations you have formed around them. The consequences of the decision to paint a room or wear a specific article of clothing therefore goes beyond aesthetics.

The colors you encounter throughout your day can make you feel happy or sad, invigorate you or drain your vitality, and even affect your work habits. Throughout history, cultures spread over many different parts of the globe have attributed varying meanings to different colors. In China, blue is associated with immortality, while people in the Middle East view blue as a color of protection. There is also evidence that human beings respond to color in a very visceral way. Red excites us and inflames our passions. Too much red, however, can make us feel overstimulated and irritated. Pink tends to make people feel loved and protected but also can cause feelings of lethargy. Yellow represents joy or optimism and can energize you and help you think more clearly. Bright orange reduces depression and sadness. Blue and green are known to inspire peaceful feelings, and people are often able to concentrate better and work in rooms painted in soft blues and greens. The darker tones of both colors can make you feel serious and introspective.

There are ways to integrate color into your life that go beyond picking the hues of your décor and your wardrobe. You can meditate with color by concentrating on the colors that make you feel peaceful or using a progression of colors to symbolize a descent into a relaxed state. Color breathing involves visualizing certain colors as you in inhale and exhale. Choose to surround yourself with the colors that you are attracted to and make you feel good, and you can create an environment that makes you feel nurtured, peaceful, and uplifted.
