Gods – Overview The Olympian Gods and Goddesses

There will be a more detailed post for each god and goddess in the upcoming weeks.

The Olympian Gods and Goddesses, Main Greek Gods and Goddesses

The Olympian gods or Olympians are younger gods who got the name after their mythical place Mount Olympus. They had gained rank as the rulers of the world after dethroning the elder gods, known also as the Titans, in a ten-year war called Titanomachy. The Olympians, as they called themselves, were the main gods of Ancient Greece and were representing civilization of the world.

The first generation Olympians were descendants of a titan couple Cronus and Rhea. Together they gave birth to six children, three sons and three daughters. The sons were PoseidonHadesZeus and daughters HeraHestia and Demeter. Zeus, Poseidon, Hera and Demeter are always considered as Olympian gods while Hestia and Hades are only included at some point of their existence. Hades was supposed to live on Mount Olympus and had every honour and right to but was given the realm of death under his control, when the three brothers had to split the cosmos after the victory over titans. And Hestia lived there just for a short period. After being granted a place on Mount Olympus by Zeus she eventually, because of her modesty, gave away her place to keep peace among gods because there were only twelve places on Mount Olympus, and the desire for these was huge among gods. The second generation Olympians were AthenaAresHermesDionysusApolloArtemis and HephaestusAphrodite is also sometimes considered as the second generation goddess but is in general referred to be from the titans generation. Some Humor for Sunday

A man on a train gets up and moves to the doors. A conductor notices and says “Sorry sir, this train doesn’t stop at the next station on a Sunday night.” Seeing how disappointed he is, the conductor says “It does slow down going through the station though, perhaps there is a way I could help you if you like.”

So as the train slows down the conductor takes hold of the man’s coat collar and lifts him out over the platform, “Start running in the air so you don’t fall over as you touch the ground.”

The man starts running in the air as the conductor lowers him and he has so much momentum as he hits the platform that he runs past his carriage and comes alongside the next one, the door of that carriage opens and a passenger reaches out, grabs his coat collar and lifts him inside, slamming the door, saying “You’re lucky there mate, this train doesn’t stop here on a Sunday night.”

Good Day WOTC Family and Friends Here is a Poem for Today

Edgar Allen Poe is one of my favorite all time writers. As my right-hand witch Graphia has a special link with Ravens this is dedicated to her.

The Raven

Once upon a midnight dreary, while I pondered, weak and weary,
Over many a quaint and curious volume of forgotten lore—
    While I nodded, nearly napping, suddenly there came a tapping,
As of some one gently rapping, rapping at my chamber door.
“’Tis some visitor,” I muttered, “tapping at my chamber door—
            Only this and nothing more.”
    Ah, distinctly I remember it was in the bleak December;
And each separate dying ember wrought its ghost upon the floor.
    Eagerly I wished the morrow;—vainly I had sought to borrow
    From my books surcease of sorrow—sorrow for the lost Lenore—
For the rare and radiant maiden whom the angels name Lenore—
            Nameless here for evermore.
    And the silken, sad, uncertain rustling of each purple curtain
Thrilled me—filled me with fantastic terrors never felt before;
    So that now, to still the beating of my heart, I stood repeating
    “’Tis some visitor entreating entrance at my chamber door—
Some late visitor entreating entrance at my chamber door;—
            This it is and nothing more.”
    Presently my soul grew stronger; hesitating then no longer,
“Sir,” said I, “or Madam, truly your forgiveness I implore;
    But the fact is I was napping, and so gently you came rapping,
    And so faintly you came tapping, tapping at my chamber door,
That I scarce was sure I heard you”—here I opened wide the door;—
            Darkness there and nothing more.
    Deep into that darkness peering, long I stood there wondering, fearing,
Doubting, dreaming dreams no mortal ever dared to dream before;
    But the silence was unbroken, and the stillness gave no token,
    And the only word there spoken was the whispered word, “Lenore?”
This I whispered, and an echo murmured back the word, “Lenore!”—
            Merely this and nothing more.
    Back into the chamber turning, all my soul within me burning,
Soon again I heard a tapping somewhat louder than before.
    “Surely,” said I, “surely that is something at my window lattice;
      Let me see, then, what thereat is, and this mystery explore—
Let my heart be still a moment and this mystery explore;—
            ’Tis the wind and nothing more!”
    Open here I flung the shutter, when, with many a flirt and flutter,
In there stepped a stately Raven of the saintly days of yore;
    Not the least obeisance made he; not a minute stopped or stayed he;
    But, with mien of lord or lady, perched above my chamber door—
Perched upon a bust of Pallas just above my chamber door—
            Perched, and sat, and nothing more.
Then this ebony bird beguiling my sad fancy into smiling,
By the grave and stern decorum of the countenance it wore,
“Though thy crest be shorn and shaven, thou,” I said, “art sure no craven,
Ghastly grim and ancient Raven wandering from the Nightly shore—
Tell me what thy lordly name is on the Night’s Plutonian shore!”
            Quoth the Raven “Nevermore.”
    Much I marvelled this ungainly fowl to hear discourse so plainly,
Though its answer little meaning—little relevancy bore;
    For we cannot help agreeing that no living human being
    Ever yet was blessed with seeing bird above his chamber door—
Bird or beast upon the sculptured bust above his chamber door,
            With such name as “Nevermore.”
    But the Raven, sitting lonely on the placid bust, spoke only
That one word, as if his soul in that one word he did outpour.
    Nothing farther then he uttered—not a feather then he fluttered—
    Till I scarcely more than muttered “Other friends have flown before—
On the morrow he will leave me, as my Hopes have flown before.”
            Then the bird said “Nevermore.”
    Startled at the stillness broken by reply so aptly spoken,
“Doubtless,” said I, “what it utters is its only stock and store
    Caught from some unhappy master whom unmerciful Disaster
    Followed fast and followed faster till his songs one burden bore—
Till the dirges of his Hope that melancholy burden bore
            Of ‘Never—nevermore’.”
    But the Raven still beguiling all my fancy into smiling,
Straight I wheeled a cushioned seat in front of bird, and bust and door;
    Then, upon the velvet sinking, I betook myself to linking
    Fancy unto fancy, thinking what this ominous bird of yore—
What this grim, ungainly, ghastly, gaunt, and ominous bird of yore
            Meant in croaking “Nevermore.”
    This I sat engaged in guessing, but no syllable expressing
To the fowl whose fiery eyes now burned into my bosom’s core;
    This and more I sat divining, with my head at ease reclining
    On the cushion’s velvet lining that the lamp-light gloated o’er,
But whose velvet-violet lining with the lamp-light gloating o’er,
            She shall press, ah, nevermore!
    Then, methought, the air grew denser, perfumed from an unseen censer
Swung by Seraphim whose foot-falls tinkled on the tufted floor.
    “Wretch,” I cried, “thy God hath lent thee—by these angels he hath sent thee
    Respite—respite and nepenthe from thy memories of Lenore;
Quaff, oh quaff this kind nepenthe and forget this lost Lenore!”
            Quoth the Raven “Nevermore.”
    “Prophet!” said I, “thing of evil!—prophet still, if bird or devil!—
Whether Tempter sent, or whether tempest tossed thee here ashore,
    Desolate yet all undaunted, on this desert land enchanted—
    On this home by Horror haunted—tell me truly, I implore—
Is there—is there balm in Gilead?—tell me—tell me, I implore!”
            Quoth the Raven “Nevermore.”
    “Prophet!” said I, “thing of evil!—prophet still, if bird or devil!
By that Heaven that bends above us—by that God we both adore—
    Tell this soul with sorrow laden if, within the distant Aidenn,
    It shall clasp a sainted maiden whom the angels name Lenore—
Clasp a rare and radiant maiden whom the angels name Lenore.”
            Quoth the Raven “Nevermore.”
    “Be that word our sign of parting, bird or fiend!” I shrieked, upstarting—
“Get thee back into the tempest and the Night’s Plutonian shore!
    Leave no black plume as a token of that lie thy soul hath spoken!
    Leave my loneliness unbroken!—quit the bust above my door!
Take thy beak from out my heart, and take thy form from off my door!”
            Quoth the Raven “Nevermore.”
    And the Raven, never flitting, still is sitting, still is sitting
On the pallid bust of Pallas just above my chamber door;
    And his eyes have all the seeming of a demon’s that is dreaming,
    And the lamp-light o’er him streaming throws his shadow on the floor;
And my soul from out that shadow that lies floating on the floor
            Shall be lifted—nevermore!

Collecting Moon Water – Have Your Children or Grandchildren Join You in this Easy, Fun Activity

Collecting Moon Water

Lunar water is full of magical energy. “Moon Water” is an ancient symbol associated with the lunar cycle. Use this powerful water to empower your intentions, manifest your dreams, and bring your desires to fruition. Plus, it’s a great way to get in touch with your inner child! And all you need is a jar and some water to get started.

Moon water is often one of the first moon rituals people try. The full moon’s energy encompasses completion, renewal, and rebirth. This is why many cultures believe that the full moon brings good luck.

I like to add some ingredients to my full moon water. To make my moon water, fill a glass jar with fresh water. Add 1/8 teaspoon of salt and 1 tablespoon of rose petals. Place the lid on top and shake vigorously, and then place it under the moon.

The salt is for protection, the rose petals for gentle manifestation of love and self love.

After leaving the water out under the moon for a few hours, I bring it in and strain it. This water is usually used up within a week of collecting it. I put it into potions and magical baths. Speaking of baths…

Moon Water Bubble Bath

Adding a bit of the moon water you collected to your bubble bath can cleanse and heal your soul as it cleanses your body. Kids love bubble baths, and you can tell them that they’re sitting in a hug magic potion meant to make them happier!

Moon Alert

After 1:30 AM EDT today, there are no restrictions to shopping or important decisions. The Full Moon is in Sagittarius peaks at 11:42 PM EDT today (8:42 PM PDT).

Aries (March 21-April 19)

You have strong opinions about politics and religion today, even if authority figures might try to thwart your efforts to state your opinions. These opinions might also deal with the rights of children. Or they might defend your romantic relationship with someone?

Taurus (April 20-May 20)

Money squabbles or disputes about how to divide or share something with a friend or a group might occur today. Regardless of what happens, you will have support from family and home. In fact, you might use your financial influence to help family and home.

Gemini (May 21-June 20)

If you are at odds with a parent or a boss or a member of the police today, show them courtesy. (Never underestimate its power.) Regardless of what happens, your ability to convince others and set things in motion is very powerful today and you will succeed!

Cancer (June 21-July 22)

Legal restrictions or your dealings with different cultures might create a challenge for you today, especially at work or in your job. This might even impact your health or dealing with your pet. Meanwhile, you’re gung-ho to work hard to boost your earnings! Yes!

Leo (July 23-Aug. 22)

Even though there are some restrictions regarding shared property or getting the financial help from others, nevertheless, this is a high energy, playful, romantic day! Enjoy sports outings and fun activities with kids. Be flirtatious. Do what makes you happy.

Virgo (Aug. 23-Sept. 22)

A serious discussion with a partner or close friend might dampen your enthusiasm about something today, especially related to home or a family member. (In fact, this discussion might take place with a female relative.) Nevertheless, you’re bursting with energy to do your thing.

Libra (Sept. 23-Oct. 22)

Work colleagues might be critical today. (Resist the temptation to be critical yourself.) This negative influence is brief – let it go. Meanwhile, your ability to coordinate and work with groups and friends is excellent. Great day for team sports and competitive adventures.

Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 21)

Initially today, something new with kids or social outings might restrict your spending, or make you feel broke. But very soon, you’re encouraged by your ability to boost your earnings and enrich your life in any way possible. Things will go your way.

Sagittarius (Nov. 22-Dec. 21)

Today the Moon is in your sign at odds with stern Saturn; however, it is dancing beautifully with fiery Mars. This means initially, a brief encounter with an older family member might be discouraging. Later, travel plans and a chance to explore new activities will be exciting.

Capricorn (Dec. 22-Jan. 19)

You might be worried about something that’s going on behind the scenes. Or perhaps, you’re picking up the negative vibes from someone else who is older and in your daily environment? Let this go because your own confidence, later in the day, will win out. You’ve got this.

Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 18)

An older friend or someone in a position of authority in a group situation might hold you back today. This is fleeting and temporary because a close friend or partner will come to the rescue and back you one hundred percent. (Yes, that’s the bugle call of the cavalry to the rescue that you hear in the distance.)

Pisces (Feb. 19-March 20)

Your relations with parents, bosses and the police swing back and forth today. First, they might be difficult to deal with. However, because your own energy is strong, positive and confident, things will swing in your direction. Nothing succeeds like the appearance of success – and believe me – you look successful today.

If Your Birthday Is Today

Actor Sean Berdy (1993) shares your birthday today. You are courageous and resilient. You are also sharp-witted, clever and multitalented. (Lucky you.) This is an excellent year to take up further studies or explore anything you want to learn, especially exploring your inner world and higher consciousness. This year gets more exciting as it progresses.

Leaf Spell for Release

Take a walk in nature and reflect on what no longer serves you. Collect a leaf and use it to cast this spell to let go pain and the past so you can summon peace and restore your sense of inner harmony.

I love casting this spell in fall, especially around the fall harvest festival known as Mabon. The fall is a wonderfully transformative time. As the leaves begin to change color and drop to the ground, we are reminded that sometimes we need to let go in order to change.

ITEMS NEEDED

  • leaf

  • ziploc bag

  • chopstick or something similar

STEPS

1. Go for a walk outside and reflect on what you would like to let go of

2. Collect a newly fallen leaf

3. Place the leaf in a ziploc bag and use the chopstick to “write” the thing you want to let go of on the leaf. Press on the leaf through the ziploc bag firmly enough to see the marks on the leaf, but be careful not to tear the leaf.

4. Take the leaf outside. Focus on releasing what no longer serves you and recite the incantation below. Let go of the leaf and release it back to nature.

“The past I leave with this leaf,

let go of pain and summon peace”

Aries (March 21-April 19)

You should think well more before taking any unnecessary risks these days, especially where financial resources are involved.

Those who are preparing to take in a credit card or make a loan should be even more careful. Every native is advised to avoid speculation and every scheme that promises a large winning on a short period of time.

Taurus (April 20-May 20)

This Saturday is going to be one lucky day for you, especially for the majority of the natives born in the first and second decan of Taurus.

Be bold and take chances as your efforts will be rewarded and your worries will be met with some of the best auspices. Maybe it’s time to ask the universe for a favor or work toward a goal you’ve long had.

Gemini (May 21-June 20)

You are going to be more and more sociable in the following days and this is why you should use this approachability of yours to make as many contacts as you can.

If you’re lucky you will even get the chance to select the persons you are interested in and spend some time with them in organized activities. You should also look for house chores.

Cancer (June 21-July 22)

You are going to feel a lot more sociable and communicative this Saturday thus making quite an impression in any gathering you are attending.

Don’t be afraid to make plans for the afternoon because you will have a great time then. The only battle for you will be not to succumb to laziness and thoughts that you would be better at home.

Leo (July 23-Aug. 22)

Love will give lots and lots of reasons to rejoice this weekend so it might be the best area of life to follow. Be bold and don’t hesitate to interact with those you usually enjoy spending time with.

It’s a great period for the lovers of this spring, some of whom would get the chance to realize they should continue their fling in the summer too.

Virgo (Aug. 23-Sept. 22)

You are going to be very active this day, whether you have many plans or not. This Saturday won’t let you take a breath but this isn’t necessarily something bad.

Because most natives might find themselves at a point in life where it seems they can relax better when working or tending to all kinds of activities. Expect you to have to run some errands later in the afternoon.

Libra (Sept. 23-Oct. 22)

It seems that this Saturday will be allocated to domestic relationships, especially those between partners. Whether or not there are things to be resolved, the two parties will definitely have a good time if they settle to have a sincere talk.

It is an auspicious moment to clear the air of any blunders and misunderstandings from past events.

Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 21)

This Saturday will be very busy for most natives in terms of encounters and errands. You might have to tend to all kinds of domestic activities and this might keep you on the road for the majority of the day.

The more you go out the more people you will get to meet. You shouldn’t avoid them but instead catch up and even use the information you are casually being given.

Sagittarius (Nov. 22-Dec. 21)

This Saturday might pose some health troubles because there might not be everything in favor of your excesses. Your body wants its part of the deal and the revenge is coming.

You might battle some headaches and definitely a hangover for all natives whom have partied last night. You should avoid any excesses and keep yourselves hydrated.

Capricorn (Dec. 22-Jan. 19)

This Saturday will definitely send some cosmic signals to you that you should take a break. This means to stop working or worrying for things that are going to happen next week.

However this relaxation does not imply you hanging around the house all day long doing nothing. You should find yourself an occupation or even tend to a hobby you enjoy.

Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 18)

This Saturday is going to be auspicious for you in terms or partnerships. For some natives it might even show that a sentimental relationship is that powerful and beneficial that it can also turn into a business partnership.

Some others might find unexpected resources in people they have never taken seriously till now. It’s a good time for launching all kinds of projects.

Pisces (Feb. 19-March 20)

It seems that this Saturday will catch you in quite a working turn and that you won’t be that happy sitting around doing nothing.

If there is no chance for you to work from home then you should focus your attention to the practicalities in your life. You could make plans for the upcoming couple of weeks and even set some meetings for next week.

Good Day WOTC Family and Friends Here is a Poem for Today

Here is another poem my maternal grandfather use to read to my cousins and I when we were children. family legend has it he read it to our parents when they were younger also. My mother read this to my children out of the same book of poetry that my grandfather read it to me from. I look forward to reading yesterday’s and today’s poems to my grandchildren from the same book as I inherited it from my mom when she crossed the veil in 2015. It is important to me to carry on family traditions like this and others. Yesterday’s poem and today’s may not be too witchy, but they called to me to share them with you. I hope you enjoy this as much as I did as a child and still enjoy reading now. If you have a poem from any point in your life you would like to share with all of us please put the name of it in the comments section and I will try to find it to share.

Jabberwocky

Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
      Did gyre and gimble in the wabe:
All mimsy were the borogoves,
      And the mome raths outgrabe.
“Beware the Jabberwock, my son!
      The jaws that bite, the claws that catch!
Beware the Jubjub bird, and shun
      The frumious Bandersnatch!”
He took his vorpal sword in hand;
      Long time the manxome foe he sought—
So rested he by the Tumtum tree
      And stood awhile in thought.
And, as in uffish thought he stood,
      The Jabberwock, with eyes of flame,
Came whiffling through the tulgey wood,
      And burbled as it came!
One, two! One, two! And through and through
      The vorpal blade went snicker-snack!
He left it dead, and with its head
      He went galumphing back.
“And hast thou slain the Jabberwock?
      Come to my arms, my beamish boy!
O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!”
      He chortled in his joy.
’Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
      Did gyre and gimble in the wabe:
All mimsy were the borogoves,
      And the mome raths outgrabe.

Good Day WOTC Family and Friends Here is a Thought for Today

This poem was a favorite of my maternal grandfather when anyone in the family’s life hit a rough patch. Its words are needed at least by me this week.

Don’t Quit

by Edgar A. Guest c. March 1921

When things go wrong, as they sometimes will,
When the road you’re trudging seems all uphill,
When the funds are low and the debts are high,
And you want to smile but you have to sigh,
When care is pressing you down a bit –
Rest if you must, but don’t you quit.

Life is queer with its twists and turns.
As everyone of us sometimes learns.
And many a fellow turns about when he
Might have won had he stuck it out.
Don’t give up though the pace seems slow –
You may succeed with another blow.

Often the goal is nearer than it seems
To a faint and faltering man;
Often the struggler has given up when he
Might have captured the victor’s cup;
And he learned too late when the night came down,
How close he was to the golden crown.

Success is failure turned inside out –
The silver tint of the clouds of doubt,
And when you never can tell how close you are,
It may be near when it seems afar;
So stick to the fight when you’re hardest hit –
It’s when things seem worst,
You must not quit.
